Never disappoints
This place never disappoints. The food is interesting, good quality, freshly prepared and not overpriced. The starters are particularly. good and the main courses change regularly. The menu is varied (fish, vegetarian, meat) but reassuringly not massive and therefore out of the freezer. A great wine list, unusual cocktails, perfect service and a really warm ambience. A real favourite.
Highly Recommend
A very nice lunch and excellent, friendly service. Thank you very much. We'll definitely be returning to see you again soon.
Definitely recommend this gem of a pub!
My first visit to the Royal and wow! Very impressed A warm welcome from the manager Glyn and his staff excellent service As for the food! The homemade mackerel pate was delicious (thank you chef!) - perfect sized portion as was following with the roast lamb! Food was very good value. Would Definitely come again Best to book as very popular restaurant.
Amazing!
Absolutely amazing Sunday dinner! Service was great. Thank you Glyn! Could not fault anything! Will definitely be back again!
Great breakfast, great service, great price
We called in this morning on our way home from visiting family in the area. The breakfast was fabulous, as was the service. Wallingford has a gem here and we're definitely going to try lunch next time we're down that way 😊
Good crossover between fine dining and pub
Hit the nail on the head. The difficult crossover between posh restaurant and pub. Good quality fresh food and relaxed atmosphere. All our dinners were excellent and much enjoyed. Staff lovely too.
Recommend for groups
Welcomed with a complimentary drink, which set evening off to a great start. Food was good, service attentive - can't really ask for more
Fab
Fantastic food, service and drinks. 5 star. Would definitely recommend. So pleased Wallingford has this jewel. Go and support them
Sunday roast, yummy!
I absolutely love this place. This time we tried the Sunday roast and it was fantastic, literally the best gravy around!
Top quality dog friendly restaurant with a relaxed vibe
We visited The Royal whilst on a long hike with our Labrador. There is a great choice of eateries in Wallingford but we were pleased we booked a table at The Royal. There was a lovely welcome as we walked in for us and our dog. The interior decor was very smart but also relaxed so we didn't feel out of place in our hiking boots! The staff made a fuss of our dog and gave her a water bowl and some pork crackling! Our mains of steak cheeseburgers were home cooked and delicious, as was my sticky toffee pudding dessert. The washrooms were up to the same high standards. Highly recommendable - a perfect place for lunch, full of happy diners and staff. It was easy to book a table online - advisable at peak times.
A great family evening
A great evening at The Royal for our family party of 6. Friendly and efficient service, delicious food (the best burgers ever) and when our granddaughter finished her tomato pasta in seconds she was given another bowl for free! Seriously impressed by the whole experience, we'll return and would highly recommend to others.
WOW!
If you haven't been…….. go! The food was outstanding. The service was second to none; so attentive. The presentation of the food equals that of a " fancy " London type restaurant. The complement of flavours on the plate were perfect. Prices were extremely good value for the quality of food we received. There is nothing about our experience at The Royal that wasn't exemplary. We'll definitely be back to try more from the menu!
Outstanding food in this lovely restaurant
Outstanding food and service. Visited with friends. I'd been previously for Sunday lunch which was excellent and had heard good reviews from friends on recent visits. I had the stone bass which was exceptional followed by sticky toffee pudding. Others had the pork, chicken and pasta. Everyone was ever happy with their food. Absolutely delicious. The menu is small but the food is amazing!!
Delivers everytime
Every time I come here there are some new awesome seasonal dishes that we absolutely love every time! This is hands down the best restaurant in town.
Angry
Lovely local venue. But… having arrived for drinks on Friday August 9th and enjoying couple of rounds of not inexpensive drinks in the pub garden we were very disappointed that the outside lights were abruptly switched off at 22.20 without warning and the management refused to switch them back on again! Bearing in mind that others sitting inside the pub were able to finish their drinks without such disruption seemed incredibly rude and unreasonable. This was a Friday evening in mid August. Absolutely appalled by this rude experience and will not be returning anytime soon. Ps. Sister pub opposite (coachmakers) still had their garden lights on when we were leaving. Very very disappointed and actually quite angry at this experience!!
You won't be disappointed
Fantastic food and service in a relaxing modern environment. It may look like a pub from the outside, but it's a proper restaurant on the inside
Warm welcome, delicious dinner, flawless service
Fantastic place, the food is absolutely delicious, the staff are wonderful and the service is brilliant. It's a beautiful restaurant and bar and a lovely place to go either for food or just a drink. My favourite place to eat in Wallingford!
Amazing time for couples
Went to the Royal today and I have to say what an amazing experience, the food was amazing and everything came out quickly with hardly any wait time. Big shout out to our hostess Shannon who was so friendly and polite and just made the experience enjoyable as well as the other staff who were also very friendly.
The Royal's done it again! 👌🏼
Wonderful experience again at The Royal. Very warm, friendly welcome from the team. Jake, our server was fab and has a cracking personality! Fantastic food and beautifully balanced cocktails. The roast beef was excellent and my partner thoroughly enjoyed his. I had two sides, the octopus and the burrata, which was lovely. Thank you for making his birthday so lovely. We'll be back!
Great food, great night
This place was amazing. The service, the food, the ambience - just out of this world. Don't miss it. Jake the waiter, Pete the Chef - and the team around them - all led to our ten people party having the time of their lives. The Veloute, the Gravalax, the Seabass, the Duck salad, the deserts - all fantastic. Worth every penny. Well done x
Friday evening Dinner
Great service, lovely menu and exceptional food. Friday evening dinner this time. Highly recommend. We will definitely be returning.
Excellent!
First visit to The Royal. We went as a family of 5 to celebrate 2 birthdays. Service was excellent and food was exceptionally good. The menu was varied and although relatively expensive it was very comparable to other venues in the area. One little blip. They ran out of the lager we were drinking after one round (odd considering it was early on a Friday evening) and as a result our bill was wrong (we didn't notice until we got home) and we dropped in a couple of days later to mention it and they were very apologetic and responsive by refunding us. Lovely venue with a perfect ambiance. We will be going back!
Very good experience all round
Very good experience. Food delicious, service excellent, location very good. Set lunch menu very good value (2 courses £17, 3 for £20). The place is fresh and clean and very well presented. Friendly staff were attentive, but not overly so. Good local beer on tap (Loose Cannon, Abingdon Bridge). Fish and chips and veg curry recommended. Portions the right size: not huge platefuls, but just enough. Couldn't fault it. Will definitely come again if I'm in Wallingford.
Simply excellent!
Whole experience was fantastic. Andy (manager) was amazing, the kitchen team prepared excellent food and all at a very reasonable price. Best I have had in Wallingford by far. Loved everything about The Royal and fully recommend it to all.
Fabulous experience
Superb evening with friends, warm attentive staff, particularly the manager, Andy, who made us so welcome, really knew his wines and how they paired with the menu choices. Such a delightful experience, we look forward to going again.
Great new spot!
Amazing new spot in Wallingford! I don't often feel obliged to review restaurants but this one really surprised and amazed me, the front of house staff were so attentive and the food was brilliant! We will definitely go back, loved it!
Excellent cooking and a relaxed atmosphere
Excellent combination of flavours. I had a Maylasian style veggie curry. Cashew Nuts and Sweet Potato with grilled aubergines, fresh chilli, coconut. Though the chilli was hot, it didn't get in the way of the overall taste. Pudding was a calvados apple with crumble, sauce annalise and vanilla ice cream accompanied by a pudding wine. What stood out was the manager / waiter really knew his food and wine. Open on a Monday as well. Lots of interesting things on the menu plus a. good wine list. The service charge does go to the staff. Very important, in my opinion. We will return at some point.
Great find in Wallingford
This was a great find in Wallingford. Beautifully styled decor and the food was excellent and extremely good value. Wallingford needs more places like this. Nice accommodation as well. We will be back for more.
You must visit
The royal is a new restaurant to Wallingford and well worth a visit. We visited on a Saturday lunchtime and were really impressed my the short menu and covers the classics, but also had some lovely choices. We had the arancini and celeriac soup to start and chicken for mains. They also offer a fantastic lunch menu three course with a glass of wine for 21. Amazing value. There is so much choice in Wallingford. But make sure you make time for here.
