Great Bottomless Brunch at Five Little Pigs
Five of us came to Five Little Pigs to celebrate some upcoming nuptials and had a fantastic time enjoying their Bottomless Brunch. I'm gluten-free and wasn't sure I'd be able to have all the courses, but the waitress was brilliant_she spoke to the kitchen and they were happy to accommodate me. I had the slow-cooked beans on toast, which came in a substantial portion and was really satisfying. Everyone else loved their dishes too_especially the gin-cured trout and the Pig Muffin, which were both big hits. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, the service was very good (our glasses were never empty for long!), and the whole experience was excellent value for money. We're already looking forward to coming back soon!
Ok But Too Heavy and Greasy
It's possible that my expectations were wrong for this restaurant. I went with very high hopes for a lovely family lunch. First time visiting, so we were new to it. Everything was ok, but it was just too greasy. We had a brioche bun with sausage and egg in it which was ok but too rich. My daughter had a toastie. When she pressed it, oil / butter oozed out which was too much. Tempura veg were too tough and just tasted deep fried in heavy batter, not the light Japanese type. Chicken wings were tasty but again, just a greasy mess. My son had a kids sausage and beans on toast which he liked. My wife had a citrus salad she liked. Maybe we chose wrong but it just felt like a heart attack on a plate!
Cabbage for keeps
Atmosphere nice, service good. Food, interesting. Enjoyed the scotch egg and the hispi cabbage. Good drinks and cocktail selection too. Would like to return in the warmer weather to explore the garden. Thanks
Excellent experience
Have to disagree with the negative comments. Had an excellent meal here with very tender pork belly and blood orange pudding is exceptional. Lovely cocktails and friendly staff. Will definitely return
Our first - and last - visit
Our first visit - two couples - and we won't go again. Lovely interior, lovely people - but the food.... Three of us had the belly pork and three of us were not happy with it. It was not browned atall or the fat rendered in any way but rather we we presented with a white flacid lump, 50% fat. Quite unpleasant. Very limited desserts - and they had run out of one! We had had sticky toffee pudding. Well, it was hard, no taste of toffee and the accompanying butterscotch sauce was so thin it was tasteless. Very disappointed with the whole experience.
Perplexing
Very mixed experience. The place has been refurbished a couple of years ago (and changed completely from its previous rather dingy Chinese incarnation) ; it's not only new, but pleasant, with well-distanced tables, a bright ambience and nice materials. The menu is promising - interesting combinations, many veg options, locally sourced and in-season foods. Service is attentive but not overwhelming. So far, so good. We order 5 starters, and 4 arrive with a very reasonable waiting time. The 5th - which theoretically should be the quickest (scallop ceviche), or should be finished and requiring a couple of hours to make again - is not at the table over 30 minutes later. The waitress says she forgot to put in the order (it happens), and another 20 minutes wait ensue. After that time, we give up on the starter, and ask to have the mains - which, having been ordered and prepared much earlier are now not great in some cases (fish skin is soggy, chicken wings are no longer crispy, vegetables have melted into a pool of juices). They still taste good, thanks to good ingredients, but they are far from expectations. We weren't charged for the 'missing starter', and were offered a couple of glasses of very nice wine on the house, which went quite some way into restoring trust and enjoyment, but it does remain a very perplexing experience. We live 5 minutes walk away, and we'd like to come back, hoping for a more satisfactory full meal.
Fresh, vibrant and tasty
Lovely venue with relaxing decor. Inventive fresh and local food full of vibrancy and taste. Service was excellent, highly recommended!
From Great to Average
The last review mirrors my experience. Paid £25 plus 12.5% service charge for my meal. Chose pork tenderloin which came as just 2 less than tender pieces, 2 small potatoes and a spoon of cabbage and mushrooms. Food was just warm. Thought I had ordered from the large plate menu not the small plate! We arrived at 12-30 when it was quiet but it still took 40 mins for our food to be served. We were offered desserts and coffee but took the easy option to walk across the road to the amazing, superb value 900 Cafe and enjoy their fabulous food instead. We have been to The Pigs several times in the past but standards have dropped as prices have increased.
Top-notch Nosh
Beautifully presented and cooked, it was a joy to find a great restaurant so close to home. There were a lot of items on the menu I could have chosen; I had the scotch egg followed by the duck breast. We also liked the relaxed vibe of the restaurant and the delightful service. We shall return.
Fab place
What a fab fine lovely place fab staff and really great original food in a Beautiful location a must bust place. would definitely come again
Good, but not for the traditionalist
This is clearly a popular local restaurant, however, we found the menu too contemporary for our taste. There was not much that could be described as simple but hearty food. We did enjoy our meals to some extent so we were not terribly disappointed. It is not cheap.
Never Assume
Decided to visit after the many positive reviews and posts from them about their awards for a Saturday lunch. I had the blackened aubergine with a romesco sauce and Tzatziki. I assumed that the aubergine would be served from the coals / fire, unfortunately, it was pan fried (I suspect it was deep fried) as it was sat in a pool of oil, with the deep fried bhaji it was unpleasantly oily. The high light was the aioli which had a massive garlic hit, the chips that came with them whilst crisp, lacked seasoning. The issue was raised with the server and they kindly fed that back to the kitchen. I am going to assume that I was unlucky as other diners looked to be enjoying different dishes. Finally, I am not sure why they provided hand towels in the bathroom as there was no bin to dispose of them, the result being all left on the side or floor.
Great food and great service
The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly. We started by sharing a caramelised onion Scotch egg - Wow - it was very flavorful and cooked to perfection. I had the bacon chop which was tender and moist and my date had the gin cured trout which was also delicious. We shared the cherry and custard flan for dessert, and it was very light and not too sweet - the perfect ending. We will be back!
Loved it. We'll be back
We needed a place to meet friends for dinner and Five Little Pigs was equidistant, so when we saw it was in the Michelin Guide we thought this is for us. So how was it? Loved it! 5* rating. But why? Friendly, efficient service but also helpful staff - can we swap this for that as he doesn't like carrots? Yep, no problem. Etc. Between us we had three different starters and two different mains; plus dessert and coffees. The standout for us was the lamb rump. Would we go back ~ ABSOLUTELY.
Excellent lunch food
The wonderful taste combinations in our lunch were all beyond expectations, especially the scotch egg. Grandson doubted he'd like 'home made' baked beans with his sausage and was astonished to love them. Obviously good sourcing and a very talented chef.
Worth a visit if you like something about different
Great restaurant with attentive staff and interesting menu, the trout was beautiful with unusual vegetables. would definitely recommend.
My New Favourite
Absolutely fabulous in every way! Service 10 / 10 Food 10 / 10 Atmosphere 10 / 10 Value 10 / 10 Loved it and will definitely be back Thank you very much
Should be better for the price
2nd visit this year and sadly disappointing both times. Nice atmosphere if a bit noisy this evening as we were at the very back of the restaurant. Last time I was disappointed with the steak bavette which was basically a small steak on a bit of toast!! Menu was the same as in March so opted for cod to start and gnocchi for main. We had a slightly late booking so they'd run out of the leek pancake, disappointing for 2 on our table but understandable as we were later. The cod was ok but needed more seasoning. The gnocchi was poor - felt like the last of a batch for the evening, not hot, stodgy and really bland. Didn't finish it. Mixed reviews from the rest of my group - clearly a couple of us were unlucky. But at those prices all the food should be top notch!! Shame I've always quite liked it here but it can be hit and miss, with the service, the food and the menu choice which tends to be good for vegans and veggies, but not so great for those who eat meat.
Underwhelmed, not impressed wouldn't rush to return
Work colleagues out for dinner. Live locally, lots of people recommend it but our experience wasn't good. Starters were nice, but mains took ages to arrive. When they did arrive my lamb was tasty but very very salty & the mash was tepid. They entirely forgot to put the dressing on one of my colleagues meals until she complained it was a little dry. Won't be rushing back.
Outstanding restaurant in Oxon
We thought we would try the Five Little Pigs after reading an article online - we were not disappointed. The setting - very pleasant. The service - fantastic. The food - off the charts - great local produce but very tasty. The price - very reasonable. It was just the wife and I for our wedding anniversary but we will definitely return.
Losing it edge
I first ate here 2 years ago and it was great however my last 3 visits have been a huge disappointment with both service and food quality. I thought I'd try the bavette steak, which was in-between a steak sandwich and steak and chips, very confusing and a ruined piece of sourdough which weirdly all the resting juices had oozed into creating what looked like an old tampon. My last visit was to try the ox cheek which came out with a pale lumpy sauce and over cooked polenta, very disappointing. To top that off I got to hear the young waitress talking about her night out before. Personally I think the prices of the food aren't reflecting the quality.
Noisy bottomless brunch
Food was good but we were placed at the back of the restaurant close to a very noisy table of 6 women. They got noisier and noisier. We mentioned it to the staff who said they were having a bottomless brunch and all they seemed to do about it was bring more prosecco. By the time we left there were empty tables at the front of the restaurant which we could have been offered for our desserts and coffee
Christmas party
I have ended up having two christmas parties here this month and both of them have been absolutely superb. One was for the bottomless brunch and the other was a large group of us that shared the small plates. I cannot fault anything! We were a big group and the service and quality of food was simply outstanding. Liz and her team do such an amazing job.
Excellent food and service!
Excellent Brunch menu to suit all tastes. The cocktails, Prosecco and drinks kept flowing due the attentive Liz and the team. Great buzzing atmosphere, perfect for that social catch up!
An absolute gem
Four of us had an absolutely delicious lunch. Tasty, imaginative dishes, friendly staff, the only negative was we were the only people enjoying this lovely restaurant.
Great food and brill atmosphere
Planned night away around this restaurant and it was so worthwhile staff amazing helpful and just a joy The evening was great not rushed and staff went out of way to ensure we had a great night - food was absolutely out of this world taste amazing and cooked to perfection - you must go
Great choices and decent portions
Visited with my daughter. We had three small plates and two side dishes. We didn't quite finish the main courses as we had to have dessert! Special mention for the octopus, a very hard dish to cook, as it's very easy to overcook. Each dish was delicious and really enjoyed them. Dessert was a really nice blackberry parfait. It's not budget food if you have a decent amount, but you pay for quality. Really nice serving staff, good communicators. Toilets very well appointed and clean. Ps even on a Wednesday night it was pretty full, worth booking.
Good but overpriced
There is a lot of talk of foraging and seasons but I left here disappointed because of poor value. The service was good, the food was good. But the prices suggest the food should be better. More gimmick than greatness.
Wonderful food
Really great lunch at the Pigs. 3 of us sharing lots of small plates and all of them were delicious. Lovely staff and efficient service, would thoroughly recommend this fantastic, well thought out restaurant.
Disappointing
We'd been looking forward to Five Little Piggies, especially as I believe that they also own the excellent Bear at North Moreton. I'm sure we could have gone on another day and would have been very pleased but on this occasion, we were not blown away. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our food was not all served at the same time and this was aggravated by having to send back some solid fried eggs. The kitchen need to understand that if you serve a fried egg on a hot plate and it's stood in the kitchen for a while, it won't stay runny. Pork chop was not moist and could have, at least, been more manageable with a steak knife rather than a blunt knife. I'd have thought this would be a given - to swap knives. Where we were sat, they could do with getting out the duster. I would try them again but maybe not for a while.
Wonderful restaurant
Really enjoyed our meal here. We ate with our daughter and boyfriend and ordered most of the small plates plus chips and a main. Very greedy!, The wait was a little too long but we forgave them when the food arrived. Really tasty and varied. We also shared two puddings. The rhubarb doughnuts with custard was my favourite. Great atmosphere and very attentive staff. They also did liqueurs in 25 cl glasses. A great way to taste several. A very enjoyable meal.
Brunch might not be their thing
Service was very slow even though the restaurant was empty. Followed by the order being incorrect. One of the dishes was good - the other ok
A great find
I rarely write reviews but I was so impressed with this restaurant from the moment we stepped through the door. My fiend and I only wanted a snack lunch but wondered on our initial look at the menu if they provided this. How wrong we were! By eating from the starters and grazing menu we made up a meze style lunch. It was absolutely delicious. The two young staff who served us were engaged, enthusiastic and delightful. We finished our meal with one of the best coffees I have had locally. I also want to mention the high standard of the toilet facilities. Well done Five Little Pigs. It was a lovely experience.
Nice food, if service was better would be 5 stars!!
Haven't been here for a while for an evening meal. So we were really looking forward to another visit. We'd booked food in advance which seemed to help with the service. Food was lovely, despite menu seeming a bit limited. My husband doesn't eat fish and wouldn't go vegetarian so the choice really was limited. But the scotch egg and pie were delicious. I had the wild mushroom crumpet followed by roasted skate. Fish was delicious, starter could've been hotter, but nice otherwise. Unfortunately, once preordered food was served the service returned to its previous slowness. And I'd really like the staff to be just a bit more attentive. There's no recognition of drinks being finished and asking if you'd like another. Feels like you have to really catch the attention of the staff. They're friendly enough. Just not on it. And once again we waited ages to order desserts and equally to try and pay the bill. There's a fine line between rushing you out the door and overly attentive, but they do really need to work on this. You certainly don't feel rushed, but definitely tests your patience trying to grab attention of staff!! Would be 5 star review if they could get this right.
A bit underwhelming
Have been previously on a number of occasions and have loved it. Sadly on this occasion I was a bit underwhelmed. There was a lack of proper " meaty " things on the menu - ie they had sausages, pies and ragus but no actual piece of meat (other than a duck leg, which they had run out of). Previously I had enjoyed steaks, slow cooked pork bellies, lamb neck fillets etc but nothing to be seen this time. Also some of the side dishes such as the " Winter crudities " and " Winter leaves " were slightly verging on taking the mickey - a few bits of leaves with some thin slices of cauliflower for the former and just winter leaves with no sign of the promised fennel for the latter. Aside from this the restaurant has a good atmosphere (and had a couple of fish fillets on offer if that is your bag) and a good value wine list. I know there is an issue with keeping the price of the menu low vs the cost of ingredients but I'd certainly be happy to pay a few more pounds for some succulent chunks of meat. Perhaps I chose badly on this occasion, and I'll still be giving it the benefit of the doubt and will try it again in the future at some point.
Fantastic place
My husband and I ate here last night and had a fabulous evening. The staff were very friendly and attentive and the restaurant was busy which was great for early January. Most of all, the food was amazing. I had Skate Wing and my husband had Hake, both of which were really fresh and delicious. We ordered extra vegetables (honey carrots and greens with chilli) and these were also lovely. Given the quality of the food, the price was great too and I'd highly recommend giving the restaurant a try
Fab-u-Lous
We didn't know what to expect, but this was a near perfect dining experience. The menu was quite short, with a good mixture of meat, fish, veggie and vegan options. For high end dining prices are very reasonable, with most main courses under £20. Our family of 4 tried a wide range of dishes. The pheasant gouging were fantastic, as were the wings. For main I took pork ragu with gnocchi. The gnocchi was a revelation, being remarkably light. The venison and lamb were also super. Overall the dishes lack frills and pretension, but everything was incredibly tasty. We finished with a luscious and intense chocolate torte. The only minor quibble was the service, which was a little unfriendly. It always irritates me when you are not wished a good night as you leave. I think we will return though.
Super spot to pass time and enjoy great food
Fabulous addition to Wallingford's bistro choices. Had two of the festive sandwiches - we thought very generous portions; interesting relishes and different breads. Lots of other dishes we'd defo try another time too. Staff lovely. Also great decor.
Fantastic food and amazing friendly service
We had a Christmas works dinner booked for 12 of us on a Friday night. The restaurant was already busy and buzzing. Our welcome was fantastic, very friendly and attentive. The food was brilliant, I went for the smoked trout starter that was lovely, and then the venison pie which was just first class, although it was huge. I felt very guilty leaving half as it was so well made and tasty. We have been before and loved FLP, but this was just great. A return with family is on the cards and we are thinking of booking again for next years Christmas do. Oh yes, the Christmas crackers were superb.
Excellent
We've come for breakfast several times now. Pretty restaurant, friendly staff, and amazing food! Hoping to get over for an evening meal at some point too.
Fantastic!
The most amazing food ever! I can't rate the food enough, it was delicious, using where possible local produce, very good quality ingredients, with an array of flavours and colours. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable on their food and wine. Great atmosphere, lovely vibe about the place. Book to avoid disappointment and support a local business :-)
The food is great and it is a independent doing well for good reasons
This is quality food - well cooked, slightly different but in an authentic way. My husband had the scotch egg and pig cheeks. The former he said was the best ever; the latter he enjoyed, I had the goat's cheese curd and the shoulder of lamb, Both were excellent and the starter really packed a punch. The waitress, Lauren, was not only really conscientious (if you have allergies, you will feel safe here), but also great with advice and just the right amount of attention. You felt looked after but not constantly interrupted. She found the answers to all our questions quickly and with no fuss. Nothing was too much trouble. She was young and I am sure someone doing it as a prelude or supplement to being at Uni. It is a measure of this restaurant in my opinion that she has had the benefit of good training and also is valued enough to be enthusiastic and invested in the diner's experience. This is a very good independent businesses that really values their customers and their staff and deserve to succeed.
Fabulous Food
We visited on the back of reading a positive review (I think it was Jay Rayner). The lunchtime food was excellent. Having had a few mediocre meals elsewhere over the past couple of months, this was a treat for the tastebuds. We had 3 different starters: trout, beef with anchovies x 2 and tempura vegetables. I would have enjoyed my beef a little more bloody, however my friend would have preferred it a little more ruined so from the restaurant perspective it was just about right (it was served cold so not adjustable). On the strength of this quality we both ordered dessert: Bakewell tart and proper cheesecake; both lush and not over sweet. I've read quite a few earlier reviews in particular the not so good ones. I do agree the seats are not for a long stay: the bistro style ones are suitable just for small bottoms. Food didn't arrive at break neck speed but there was no hurry and it was worth the wait. I'd like to think it was being freshly prepared. Extremely good value. We had 6 plates and 2 glasses of wine £63 including service. Will definitely return. I'm already looking for reasons to go back to the area. I'm not a local.
Extremely clean, light and airy yet has a warm ambient feeling. Genuinely nice staff!
it was all like something out of a restaurant that i would expect to pay 5x the price for a meal, thoroughly enjoyable experience!! MUST try - scotch eggs
Amazing food!
Fantastic choice on the menu without being too much choice. They say you eat with your eyes, well the food on all 3 courses was presented so well my mouth was watering before the first bite! I could not fault the food in any way, the service was attentive, knowledgable and very friendly. Atmosphere was relaxed and lovely decor. Seriously recommend and wish I'd been before now!
Can't stop thinking about the food
Amazing food! Went for lunch today and haven't stopped thinking about how good the food was. Simple menu but so tasty. Really good quality ingredients. Nice interior and friendly staff. Will be returning for sure
Fantastic experience!
Absolutely loved this experience Last minute booking for four on a Wednesday evening. Service was great, personable, helpful and relaxed. The food was amazing. Imaginative and unusual. I wanted to try everything on the menu. We shared and swapped food and even my Uber fussy 17 year old really enjoyed it, despite being a bit disheartened by the menu (because he's fussy). The hidden garden is a gem, beautifully done. Toilets were clean and well equipped. I don't thing you would get much better food in a much more expensive restaurant with (unnecessary) plush surroundings. I loved the relaxed, yet well designed decor and atmosphere. Will definitely go again to try everything else
Truly fantastic!
From the moment we walked in we could tell we were in for an extraordinary experience; the service was exemplary and staff were relaxed and happy in the midst of a vibrant, full restaurant. Both the food and drinks menus were exciting and tempting, filled with so many different dishes and we could have easily tried them all. The menu was thoughtfully created; we could tell it was composed of high quality, locally sourced ingredients. We chose meat and fish dishes and could see that every part of the animal had been utilised beautifully. There was a wide range of drinks available and a delightful cocktail menu which had been as equally well thought out as the food menu. The food was absolutely outstanding and we can't wait to return soon.
Very good restaurant with interesting menu
Five Little Pigs is a very good restaurant. It is spacious inside with plenty of seating. The menu is very interesting with a selection of varied dishes, all of which featured interesting combinations of tastes and textures. Everything we had was very tasty and very nicely presented. The service was very friendly, helpful and efficient.
Wallingford's lucky to have Five Little Pigs!
Very welcoming and friendly staff. Nice newly built looking garden at the back. Had read rave reviews so was very pleased to be finally eating at Five Little Pigs. Really liked the decor and it was comfortable dining. The food however was a little disappointing, the Broad Bean Fritter starters for example were beautifully presented but lacked taste and our main was similarly bland. Interesting and original menu though and perhaps we just picked the wrong things on the day.
Excellent
Visited this restaurant a few times and as usual the food was excellent we had the scotch egg, mini Kiev, bread board, then the pie which had just the right amount of pastry then the chocolate tart which was to die for. Our waitress Katie was attentive and helpful. Lovely place highly recommended it.
Birthday Brunch with the Girls
A fantastic birthday brunch with friends, the staff made it even more special as they were so attentive to us, not only were our glasses never empty for long they brought fresh glasses each time, the food was delicious and we all tried something we wouldn't normally have and we ALL thoroughly enjoyed it. The garden out the back was tucked away and sunny but even outside they had not forgotten about the simple things like suncream and table cloths. Very impressed and we will definitely be back.
Beautiful, interesting food
We have lunched here before, always a lovely meal in a beautiful setting (air conditioned!). Friendly staff, and a back terrace for eating outside.
Fantastic lunch, great service
Booked a table on a Saturday lunch time after reading Jay Rayner's review. Best meal out I've had in ages. Seating was comfortable and there was a nice buzz but not loud. The menu was short but had a lot of variety, could have chosen a couple of things for each course at least. Really enjoyed every course, I'm going to start demanding that all butter should come with bone marrow. Didn't have to wait too long for anything but also didn't feel rushed. Wine was reasonably priced. The staff were really friendly and seemed genuinely interested when chatting to you. The free prosecco from the handsome waiter was an added bonus. Definitely coming back again soon.
Great food with lovely service
Have been meaning to try this place since it opened. Had a lovely evening enjoying cocktails followed by three gorgeous courses washed down with some lovely wine. We will be back again without hesitation - top marks for the kitchen and serving staff... food was fab.
Benjamin Lawrence
Came in on my night off from work and hadn't a few small plates, food came out nice and quick in a tapas style and the staff were very attentive! A very smooth and enjoyable smoke cod roe, fried olives and scotch egg. A quaint and quirky bistro on the heart of Wallingford. A nice little find! Had a lovely time
Local, leisurely perfection
A Jay Rayner review made me come here. What a delightful place. Wide open and spacious but painted in dark, homely cocooning colours - terracotta oranges, deep teal and charcoal, with big windows and bright pastel artwork. I went tapas style on the starters. Deep fried olives with herbs were revelatory. Fresh, surprising and decadent. Fried anchovies were even better. Effectively little fish fingers for grown ups. Artichoke crisps were crisps. Salty and unsensational but good if you're having a cocktail while working out what to eat. The nettlebed and rhubarb toastie was deluxe filth. A dark, fried, oozing confection with a twist of sweet and biting rhubarb. A bowl of braised lettuce sounded meh but was Springtime, squeezed like a lemon into a bowl, warmed, and covered with a huge dollop of piquante yoghurt and flavoured oil, accompanied with a good handful of petits pois, warmed and warming, the perfect antidote to a little April cloud. Service from Talis was friendly, professional, attentive and delighting. My only real issue is that I don't have cow stomachs to order a bit of everything, especially as they have a rhubarb jam donut today with cardamom custard. Bill Withers is singing on the sound system. And it is indeed a lovely day. Five Little Pigs is pretty much leisurely perfection.
Birthday meal
Best meal we have experienced in Wallingford ever. Locally sourced seasonal produce. Amazing flavours. Fantastic service. We are foodies and this was a treat from start to finish. Artichoke crisps need to stay on the menu. Piggy pale rarebit and little kyivs starters. Lamb rump gnocchi and venison ragu main. Somehow we found room for desserts. The house doughnut and ginger pudding finished off the meal. Truly a memorable visit. Thanks to Rob and his team
Five little stars
Just wonderful The food was delicious, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the atmosphere was perfect for a Saturday evening. The drinks menu was full of good old favourites but some lovely local brews and gins etc. we'll be back and with friends next time to enjoy using one of the the booths. Well done Sam & Rob, you should be very proud
Amazing
This has become our new favourite restaurant in Wallingford. The food is amazing, service is great and the venue is stunning.
Lovely decor
When you're vegan and find something interesting on a menu, you're quite excited, but when my plate came in, I thought 'is that it?' Of course, it was one of the cheapest options, but still a main so should have filled me up a bit.. I would have rather paid more to have more! Plus a bit of 'crunch' would have been nice. My partner really enjoyed his meal, so he's more a 4 out of 5. And the decor and waitress were lovely, so I guess that counts too!
Delicious local produce well prepared
Popped in to 5 Little Pigs. Definitely part of a Wallingford culinary renaissance. Had a delicious pork chop from Brightwell with great veg and interesting sauces. Wine list has plenty of reasonably priced wines by the glass and there is a broad but slightly quirky draught beer selection. Good for a restaurant meal or as a wine bar. Liked it!
Bottomless brunch
Just fabulous! This was the first time in 18 months that we had got together due to Covid and the Five Little Pigs absolutely delivered. The food and bottomless brunch was just fantastic and our waitress Olivia was another level. Whatever you are paying her, treble it. What an asset to your company she is. Keep doing what you are doing - you have got it spot on. Will be recommending you to everyone. Thank you for a fantastic afternoon 🥂
Top quality food and service!
Ten of us attended Five Little Pigs for a friend's get together. It was a busy Friday night serving but we'd pre-booked. The quality and imagination behind the dishes was really impressive. The portion sizes were perfect and most of our party managed three courses without feeling overly stuffed / bloated. The food was properly delicious and the service was equally good. The staff are genuinely lovely and relaxed which really helps put you at ease. This place is on to an absolute winner and we'll definitely be returning. Highly recommended.
Best eatery on the upper Thames
Cruised up and down the Thames…. had great food, drink and service almost everywhere…BUT the Five Little Pigs was a cut above the rest…. friendly engaging, unfussy staff, luscious food and delicious craft ales….. we'll be back. Bravo. Fun too!
Delicious fresh and local food!
I've now visited The Five Little Pigs three times and I can't wait to return again. I highly recommend the black pudding scotch egg and chicken wings from the small plates section, they are both delicious and the portion sizes are big. The chicken Kiev main is delicious and the doughnut dessert is amazing. My partner had the lamb on one occasion and the steak on another, they were both also delicious. They've now introduced a cocktail menu with some great options, I tried the castle gardens and the rhubarb sour and both were really delicious. All of the food is presented beautifully and the attention to detail is really clear to see. I love the piggy paper clips, the fresh flowers on the tables and the gin glasses are so pretty! I'll be heading back to try the bottomless brunch soon!
Fab restaurant
Great new restaurant! We have eaten here a few times now, lovely food, great beer and very nice G and T's in lovely glasses. Very friendly staff, this place will be in top ten on trip advisor in Wallingford very soon!
Wallingford's best kept secret!
My friends and I enjoyed a birthday dinner at the Five Little Pigs and it didn't disappoint! A colourful and buzzing atmosphere, attentive staff and the most delicious food. I was a little apprehensive with the menu, some unfamiliar combinations and not your usual classics, but my goodness each course was just fantastic. The chef is a genius! Already planning my next visit. Don't miss out people!!
Don't bother
Random, bad food (deep fried olives???) lack of availability - waitress with limited knowledge outside area half finished, gin served in a vase …. No thanks
Excellent independent
Visited for a midweek lunch. Lovely food - seasonal, fresh and different to other restaurants in Wallingford. Enjoyed a mixture of small plates with friends. Look forward to returning for more substantial main courses. Excellent quality, friendly service.... Thoroughly recommended.
Omm nomm nomm!
This place has a great story behind it - supported by a Kickstarter campaign. Lots of locals put their hands in their pockets even before it opened, and during Covid 19, to see it get up-and-running. Great! Local food, and they stock their own gin and beer. Came last night for the first time - and *loved* it. I was hoping for the pork scratchings as a starter, but apparently they weren't working out well…. So they have been swapped for crispy chicken skin. Let's just say I wasn't disappointed, and refused to share! We both had lamb shoulder with " crunchy potato " as our mains. The lamb was absolutely beautiful. The potato was not as expected - more like a large croquette - but still yummy! Quite a big / decent wine-list, with plenty of options by the glass. Really, really wish we had somewhere like this in Didcot. Love it, and will definitely look to return.
A gem of a place in Wallingford
Strangers to Wallingford we happened apon this lovely little restaurant for a late lunch. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating given that it was near 3 pm when we tipped up. The menu is very original - some mains but small plates if you wish to mix and match. Everything was really delicious - so nice to taste food obviously imaginatively planned and prepared. We had the anchovy toast and cauliflower and burnt chicory with chickpeas and also sampled the amazingly creamy local goats cheese. The home made Foccacia bread was totally to die for ! Washed down with a beautifully chilled bottle of nicely dry Rose we went away very happy !What a find ! Good luck to the local entrepreneurs who opened the place a few weeks ago.
Extremely good
There are many local places which claim to be gastronomic, but aren't. 5LP makes no such claims, but actually IS gastronomic, just in a very unpretentious way. We went with no expectations, but were blown away by the quality of food. This is top, top notch and all the better for doing it in such an informal and laid back way. Staff are very keen and lovely, not professional, but who cares? When they are this nice, this friendly and helpful, professional and technical knowledge is far less important. What I liked was that this was ambitious, no. playing it safe with crowd pleased, but crafting superb combinations of taste and texture, no fancy pants tricks, just lovely food that looked good and tasted better. I cant wait to come again and rue not trying this before, outstanding.
Exceptional food, lovely atmosphere
We visited the Five Little Pigs for a birthday outing and it was FANTASTIC. The food was outstanding, interesting dishes, cooked perfectly and reasonably priced. Really delicious drinks too. The castle gardens cocktail was awesome and the wine list was comprehensive and those we tried were delicious. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable. The staff were really friendly and obviously cared that we enjoyed our experience.
Excellent
We had a really enjoyable evening here. The atmosphere was great- a good buzz without being crowded. The food was excellent- really good quality, perfect portion size and nice to see lots of local produce on offer. The service was great-attentive but not intrusive. Overall a great experience and will definitely come back.
Great Christmas meal 2021
Ten of us went for a Christmas meal and had a fabulous time. We chose the menu in advance and the food was excellent and plenty of it. The roast potatoes were devine! The staff were attentive and friendly. If You want to book a Christmas meal, this would be a great choice. Will definitely visit again
Excellent Christmas Dinner with friends
Super variety of food. Plenty of choice. Superbly cooked. Great service. Excellent value. Ambience very friendly
Christmas meal
I had an excellent Christmas meal here last night - tasty and imaginative. Delicious vegetarian main course of roasted cauliflower with pomegranate seeds! The staff were very efficient and friendly, and the surroundings were inviting and comfortable. My friends and I had a great evening. Thank you, Five Little Pigs.
Well done on setting up a lovely new restaurant
My friend and I had a lovely relaxing Sunday lunch of Cornish sole with vanilla butter and chips. We didn't think the winter cabbage added anything to the dish though. The restaurant was full but didn't seem crowded and the right number of serving staff were employed to keep everything ticking along. Well done. Looking forward to returning soon.
Excellent Food
Food was excellent. Highly recommend the Belly Pork and Rolled Lamb. Missed marks, the marmite butter had been sat in the fridge uncovered, so was solid and had discoloured on the outside. Slow service for a fairly empty restaurant. We had to find a waitress twice, to clear plates / get coffees. And to pay the bill. In the end our host went to the bar to pay the bill as our 2hr parking had expired. Keeping in mind we only had mains and coffee and some bread to share whilst we waited for mains.
Disappointed after so many positive reviews
On arrival we were welcomed by a friendly chap. After this the evening went down hill. The floor around our table and the one nearby was strewn with bits of food and not what was expected. Bread arrived and was very stale despite being drizzled with oil. Mains were bland and had obviously been sat under heat as the small amount of sauce on plate had a skin and pork was dry. Chocolate delice was tasty but had a tasteless 'pistachio' cream with one whole pistachio in it. After waiting a year and looking forward to our first visit we were left completely underwhelmed and will not be returning anytime soon. After recent national publicity maybe they are not coping well with extra business??
Informal, friendly and tasty
Friendly, informal, great but interesting and sustainable menu. I had the roasted cabbage and smoked fish pate for lunch. Would recommend for easy lunch.
Delicious Doughnuts
Child free for the first time in a while we decided to try out the 5 little pigs. Glad we did. A lively little place with a nice selection of food. Made a nice change to see a range of novel dishes on the menu. I had a scotch egg with a rich homemade brown sauce and lamb loin, with my wife having goats cheese and rich venison ragu. We both had the doughnut for dessert, which I can thoroughly recommend. The scotch egg was perfect, as was the loin. The wet polenta with the ragu was cheesylicious. There could have a bit more goats cheese on the starter, but that is being a bit picky. Even the wine was good and reasonably priced. It was good to see a packed restaurant with people enjoying themselves, and the food. A definite buzz about the place and long may it continue. The portion sizes are sensible, allowing you to enjoy the food and have three courses. I often struggle to finish one or two these days. Definitely, quality over quantity. I did not feel stung by the bill and will be booking another table soon (and will probably have the doughnuts again 😁).
