Tourist menu DOUBLED PRICE
We just discovered that this restaurant has two types of menus. On for the locals and another for tourists. By an accident my friend got a tourist menu and I went to the table and grabbed a local menu, as soon as I get back to my seat, the waiter insisted to replace my menu. we soon discovered the trick. The tourist menu is almost DOUBLED PRICE, DOUBLED PRICE. DOUBLED PRICE. DOUBLED PRICE. DOUBLED PRICE. DOUBLED PRICE. DOUBLED PRICE. Be aware people.!!!!!!!!!!!!@
Sabroso pato asado
Recomendable.
Very Impressed
We found this by chance and decided to have lunch here. I think we were the only tourists present, but the food was great, the staff lovely and a great location with some views of the river (between a couple of boats).
TYPICAL CHINESE FOOD, INEXPENSIVE
We dined on the upper balcony over looking the river which was nice. This is a typical local restaurant, noisy, but average (good) Chinese food at very reasonable prices. This is not a tourist place. The menu did not have prices but we were given one with prices when we asked. Most of the staff do not speak English, but they'll find someone if you ask. Service was actually very good, very fast, standard but tasty Food. This building has housed Chinese restaurants, though with different owners, since before 1980 when I fist ate there. Its just on the river across from the Strand hotel.
Menu has no prices
We visited the restaurant wanting to try the food as it was recommended by our driver. The staff showed us their menu and all the items have no prices displayed. As a tourist, we were uncomfortable with this as we do not want to have to argue over the bill later. We asked for a menu with prices and the staff after scrambling for 5mins, could not get us one. We left disappointed. Neutral review given as no chance to try food but restaurant should make an effort to display prices.
Not bad but nothing special
We came to this restaurant because of all of the wonderful reviews. The food was not bad, the duck was quite tasty, though nothing that special. We sat outside so the view was nice, but I wouldn't return for another meal. Overall, it was okay.
Good food, nice view
Our guide took us on a long walk / drive in the Kyauktada area to show Myanmar's British Raj heritage. Then he took us to Junior Duck on the Strand Road, not far from the Strand Hotel. The place serves very good Burmese food and has a decent spread for vegetarians too. We took a window seat, because the hotel is almost on a quay leading to the river Irrawaddy. The view is great (even better than the view from The Strand Hotel!) We could see all the action on the river: dredgers, cargo craft and local coolie boats. Compared to an average " Tea-shop " kind of eatery in Myanmar, Junior Duck is expensive; but is still very cheap by normal standards. The 2 of us plus the guide and driver had a good lunch for about 22000 Kyats (USD 15 for 4 persons). The toilets are clean. I would strongly recommend that your trip to Kyauktada area should include a lunch program at the Junior Duck
Good - But..
Thje food and service at Junior Duck reman good, but childrens' play equipment has been installed in the main part of the restaurant. The kids shreik and scream, which really detracts from the dining experience. Good for the parents, perhaps, but not so much fun for the other diners.
Good taste BBQ duck
We went to this Resturant all my relatives to have dinner in this river side place. Food was not so bad and service too. i like very much BBQ duck they served. Price also more like in thiland no cheap but we are happy for good taste.
Good
Surprisingly good
Cavernous characterless building overlooking the river which looks like a place for coach loads of tourists, but my perception was wrong. When we visited at lunchtime it had a mix of locals and tourists. Prices were reasonable and the food was surprisingly good. We had a couple of small dishes with one fried rice and it was more than enough for the two of us. My favourite was the chicken with cashew nuts. We will return and try the BBQ meats which looked so delicious.
A very pleasant venue for lunch
My wife and were on a private tour with a tour guide, and we came to this cool, very clean, spacious and bright restaurant for lunch. The service was excellent, the food was very good; naturally we chose the duck, and it was not at all expensive. There were quite a few people in there but you only noticed because of the general hubbub.
Extremely Yummy
The food here is extremely yummy, especially the famed crispy duck. The dining environment is good and try to choose the outdoor seating where you will be accompanied by the breezy wind. Staff are very prompt and attentive and very reasonable pricing too. I will be back:)
Great sunset dinner
Had a very good Asian meal on the balcony with the sun setting and view of the river, ferries, local water taxis. The fried rice was just right, not oily. Enjoyed sweet and sour chicken, chicken with vegetables, and roasted duck. Very clean and attentive, professional staff.
Tolle Aussicht
Sehr aufmerksamer Service. Das Essen sah sehr gut aus.
Good river side place in Yangoon
It's suitable to hide away from busy Yangoon. Good view to river, friendly staff but not very good English.
nice view of the river and good food
The service is excellent. The place is decorated as local Chinese style and the food is fast and good. The Yangon river view is excellent from balcony tables. The price is reasonable and good for groups.
Good Quality Food with decent service
This location on the edge of Yangon river has good views but more importantly good quality Myanmar / Chinese food. The service is prompt and attendants are always nearby. The price is very good.
Roasted Duck
Nice taste and resonable price, receiving fresh air outside and seeing river view. Enough space for car parking.
A place for sunset river view of Rangoon!
If you are looking for the suitable place for sunset with dinner, this is the place to choose. But you must to book before to go. it " s always busy with their local customers. Just choose outside at the upper level open sky balcony conner table. the most recommended menu are seafood and Beijing roast Duck.
Good Myanmar restaurant
We found this riverside restaurant by chance on our first day in Yangon. It was very busy and full of locals so in we went. The food was great and very tasty also good sized portions at very reasonable prices. It was so good we went back two weeks later on our last day in Myanmar.
Bon restaurant chinois
Dining By The Riverside
This restaurant surprisingly serves very good Chinese food. You can dine at the top deck if it is not raining, facing the river and enjoying the breeze. It's a good hangout join and have a couple of drinks with your friends. The price is reasonable and in fact, the food portion can be quite generous too.
Busy Chinese Next To The River
Our guide for the day brought us here for lunch at it was busy with a mixture of locals and tourists. A cool beer was nice on a hot sticky day and you can look out on to the river, I had fried eel and pork and it was very good, wish i had chosen the duck as it looked amazing. A nice place to go, service was fine and the price cheap for what we had.
Good if you like chinese food
The restaurant is completely chinese style and if you're this type, it's awesome. Roasted Duck is the signature dish of the restaurant chain. Other foods are good as well. The view outside windows are very, very dirty and poor though the river can be seen directly and feel the breeze. So, look only very close (your table) and very far (the river) if you eat there.
Echt fantastisch lekker
Good experience
The large dining hall type restaurant on the river is good to experience as many locals were around while we had a late lunch. The waiters were a little too attentive, but I guess they were only trying their best. The food was well presented and tasty. Check the portion size before you order as you could end up with a mountain of food.
Junior Duck meet our expected service
We celebrated our friend's birthday dinner in Junior Duck. Food is acceptable and the prices are reasonable. " Duck " is awesome. Our table was served by Zaw Htet and Zaw Myint, both of them is really service minded rated them as five-star. Better to book in advance for open-air area and no complaint at all. We will go there again.
Asian Style Food
25 mins walk from City Star Hotel, Located at street 33th. A great place to dine in with a spectacular sea View and breeze. I love their Fried Pork and Duck! We spent K32, 800 for 4 pax (1 veg, 1 fried eel, 1 jellyfish, 1 fried pork, 1 half duck & 2 drinks 2 beer Be careful of rain and flying insect if you are sitting outdoor. There was a typhoon-like storm when we are about to leave. The outdoor diners had to move indoor.
Ultima chance, bella sorpresa
Consigliato. Da provare i gameti fritti accolti nelle patate.
Very delicious meal in Yangon :D
The huge dish !! very delicious !! I recommend the roast duck and stew neck pork with sauce and fried rice. I love this restaurant and I'll go back again> <
Junior duck - Chinese restaurant
the restaurant is located in a market area, you can take the taxi to the restaurant (i took the cab from Chatrium hotel to the restaurant and they charged 4000 burmese currency). Food is good, cleanliness is okay but do not expect much from the environment since it's right next to the market.
Nice open air
Went to this place for lunch during a city sight seeing tour. Food service was a little slow, food was as expected for a typical asian meal.
good food and nice view
Relaxing place where locals and tourist eat. A bit pricy but the food and views are worth it. Try it, I don't think you will be disappointed.
Good view, good beer, bad food
I went to this Restaurant in March 2016 with a friend. The view from the terasse is very nice, especially during sunset. We ordered two sets of chicken and it was nearly uneatable. : ( Very rubbery and with bones and greasy and the skin was not roasted or anything. The sauce was ok, so we ate rice with sauce. ;) We didn't try the all so famous duck, but our neighbor had it I it look quite the same as our chicken. So go here if you have to wait for the ferry or just came back from Dala, grab a beer or two, enjoy the sunset. But stay away from the food.

Great food!
My husband and I went here with our friends and it was delicious! The duck is their specialty and was worth all the hype. We also enjoyed their whole fried fish and stir fried sliced fish with vegetables. It was quite crowded, so get there early. We were sat outside and it was very hot with mosquitos, but the food was so darn good we will definitely be back! Get a seat on the river side if possible.
Great lunch before the ferry ride
We came here on a hotel recommendation before going to Dala. The location is right next to the ferry port. They are the same owners as Golden Duck a few blocks away. This restaurant sits right on the water with nice views of the boats. We ordered the roast duck, fried spareribs, fresh pomelo juice & kale with garlic. Everything was good. I probably wouldn't order the spare ribs again because it was hard to tell what was fat from the coating. They taste good but a little chewy. It was a nice lunch and very easy to get right on the ferry to Dala.
Good Chinese food in a breezy location
The roast duck is, needless to say, excellent. Other food was good and tasty too. Service a little over attentive, but nice sitting on the outdoor terrace in the evening.
Really good ducks!
This is a famous duck place in Rangoon. Nice location on the riverside makes it attractive for a longer visit. Burmese style duck is different than Peking one, Here you will get it including the meat (not only skin) so it is not easy to finish it. As a drink I enjoyed Mandalay draught beer.
That makes me remember my childhood
When I was child, My family had a shop at Nanthida post, Greeting cards shop. I always went to that restaurant and they love me so much and I always got many dry grapes. That's a great restaurant. Until now, sometimes I went there for my dinner, friendship party or family retreat. We all like their duck grill. That's the one of the most famous in Rangoon.
Local and Authentic
We were taken here as guests by locals, who made up the vast majority of the clientele at lunchtime on a Saturday. Dishes were chosen for us and were plentiful in quantity and replenished regularly. Obviously, the clue is in the name, the restaurant's specialty is duck - not a favourite of mine at all - but my husband commented that the duck was delicious. Our friends told us that they had ordered Myanmar dishes which, we have since decided, whilst delicious to eat, often lack something in the presentation; so if you are someone who eats and appraises dishes purely by aesthetic appearance, you may be disappointed. Decor and furniture rather basic, but the restaurant is not pretending to have any airs and graces. I agree with previous reviewers that English is limited. For us, of course, this wasn't a problem, but the menus here are often in English and sometimes even have pictures, so you should manage. Certainly worth a visit if you want to eat with the locals and, if walking to the restaurant, you will find yourself ambling through a local market to boot.
Best Duck in town
Always a favourite, much more local than foreigner, foods great, service is attentive and the prices are not the western levels of some in town. The duck is a highlight, with loads of grease something you don't get in the west. Can get a bit noisy and warm as you'd expect in a big place like this that's open to elements.
Chinese Famous Restaurant
This located near Yangon jetty compound can reach 20 minutes by walk from SULE pagoda road (or) 15 minutes by car. Famous menu is Chinese SET available. We like their service very much.
Terrible
We visited the restaurant with friends for dinner and got a recommendation from friend. We ordered duck, jelly fish, vermicelli salad, fish, different kind of veggie and cashew nut. There were none good. It was horrible. The only acceptable fried cashew nut. We were upset. I cannot described more. The only things made us happy was the helpful and polite staff who helped us with difficulty communication in English. The location of restaurant was opposite Strand Hotel by the ferry / jetty
Golden Duck
Average
Went in search of the so-called Colonial Quarter and were caught in a torrential downpour. Junior Duck was nearby. Staff were great but English very limited, which was fine as they had english menus. As with most menus I came across in Myanmar, there is little to indicate wehther anything comes with rice / noodles and if you order some, whether they are side dishes or main courses in their own right. Went for 3 dishes in the end, all were main courses. Anyway, quality was fine, service was fast and good, but nothing special at all, very average chinese style food that was slightly overpriced for Yangon - double what we had paid at any other restaurant up to that point. Very busy restaruant, so perhaps if we had ordered different dishes...
A real Gem
I ate her 5 years ago and I resently returned to this mainly chinese restaurant on the quay side. Its vast, local and friendly. The food is what you would expect from a venue of this size and very cheap. The staff were happy and willin. The upstairs outside space is really buzzing but you will want to book, it over looks the ferry terminal and is facinating. Book if you want the table with a view as it is busy especially on Friday.
Superb service. Will definitely be back!
The place is near the ferry terminal and about 20 minute walk from Botahthaung Pagoda. The food servers were very nice and polite. They were more than to give us suggestions on which food and beer to try. Loved their honey lemon chicken and the local myanmar beer. Plus theres a free dessert! Nice surprise!
Great food, great view
We twice tried to make reservations by phone at this restaurant to no avail, seeking an outside table on the upper floor. With a lack of options near our hotel we walked to this restaurant from the Eastern Hotel (approx. 25min), hoping to maybe pick up an outside table. They were fully booked (as we knew), but we were offered a table inside but upstairs, which lucky enough had a great view through the windows across the river and the Daha ferry terminal. The outside dining area was full of large tables and many locals enjoying the evening. The service was faultless, including the staff setting up a fan to help keep us cool in the very hot and humid conditions. We gave the duck a miss as we had tried this dish at their sister restaurant in Mandalay (Golden Duck), and were disappointed. We ate a serve of prawn & potato rolls (20) - K4100, which were basically a thin piece of potato wrapped around a plump prawn mixture and deep fried. They were so yum that we actually ordered another serve later for 'desert'. We also ate a small plate of cauliflower & snow peas in a nice sauce - K3500, a small serve of noodles with veg also in a nice sauce - K3100, and washed this down with a few beers - K2000, which could have been colder. The view was great and the atmosphere was also pretty good. This branch was a little more expensive that the one in Mandalay but was definitely worth visiting, even if just for the view. I suggest that you book a few days in advance for an outside table (+951249421).
Location, location, location!!
Outside dining provides great views over majestic Irrawaddy river. Bliss. We only had a snack there, as we had late luncheon. We arrived at around 17.00 without a reservation. Grabbed last table (there are only some 8 tables outside). It's right next to the Pandagon jetty.
Superb restaurant in Yangon, a must try!
We had dinner (3 pax) at Junior Duck restaurant on 27 Nov and the roast duck was really good. All 6 dishes that we ordered were delicious except the tomyam seafood soup (which was a real let down), tasted more like salted vegetable soup instead. However, we enjoyed our dinner very much and the chicken feet salad and deep fried eel skin were really yummy! A must try restaurant indeed...
Too crowded
It's near the harbor. Just by the riverside so it's nice to eat here in the evening. At night, the view is not as good as expected. Reservation is required or you have to wait long queue if you want a table on second floor (outdoor). Other tables are inside the building and it's hot, no view at all. Always crowded, staffs are slow. Food is just normal. Price is slightly high, but still acceptable.
Perfect sundowner spot
Located near the river this is a perfect place to have a cold drink and in peace and quiet watch the sunset over Yangon river, where ferries cross and there is a lot of activity at this time of the day Popular with groups you will find that many tables are reserved, but still possible to pop in for a drink. We had beer, juices and fried cashewnuts, which was all very good, but can not say anything about the food.
reasonable price with river view
The food is good and the staff are friendly and efficient. Reasonable prices! It's good for beer or dinning with a great view over the river.
Forget about the chicken
The roast duck is an obvious must! Full roast duck that is. Not half. I regretted. The special pork was soft and tasty. Skip the squid tempuras (although it sounds tasty) and the deep fried prawns (mushy mushy). And sit outdoors to enjoy the sea breeze!
Average Food
We went to Junior Duck for dinner and restaurant not too pack, probably it's raining. We managed to get a window seat and is very breezy with nice view too. We ordered roast duck, steam fish, fried prawns, fried soft shell crabs, mixed vegetables and crabs in mushroom sauce. The food is acceptable except the recommended crabs in mushroom sauce doesn't blend too well. Price is reasonable. The cold Myanmar beer is nice. The service is good as staff is very attentive and polite.
A Restaurant That You Shouldn't Miss In Yangon
Had a good food in this restaurant. Famous menu is roasted duck. Food delivery is quite fast. You will need to make a reservation before you go there. Otherwise you will need to wait. A bit pricy restaurant but the food is good. Overall in Yangon the prices are a bit pricy.
" Duck and Avoid "
We stayed at the Strand and our guide suggested that we walk over to Junior Duck because we were tired and did not feel like driving to another place. Mistake, mistake. The place was absolutely packed -- and I did not see one other westerner. That was the good part! Lots of families and office workers, and it was a lively and noisy environment. Also good. We ate upstairs with a " " view " of the jetty... and got eaten up by mosquitoes despite the DEET. The waiters spoke not one word of English but we had faced that before and had no problems. Basically we give the place a one star because the food was horrible. We live in no. California so we are used to good Chinese food and superb duck. So we ordered the duck and fried noodles with chicken, potato rolls with prawns. The duck was virtually tasteless and the noodles were literally swimming in oil. We still have no idea how they prepared the supposed potato rolls but one taste was enough. The place is related to the Golden Duck which people seem to love but this place is not one I would recommend to anyone. The cost (with lovely Myanmar beer) was about $23... quite a bit for Myanmar.
Great Place & Good Food
It is so perfect for every occasion dinner. Their Set Menu for 10 people have more than 7 Main dishes and its wonderful. The building is two stories, upstairs is the best while downstairs have some issue with insects or smell.
Decent food, duck could be better
When we went we had to queue outside to get in, and then had to queue even more to get a seat upstairs on the terrace. Once we got there things were good. The service is good and the beer reasonable and cold. We ordered duck, which was the specialty of the restaurant. It was OK, a little dry and bland and not worth the money. We had pork skin salad which was amazing however. If you go, make sure you go late or early because queues are long and they won't allow bookings.
Food is good but mind the insects!
In my opinion, the quality of food at Junior Duck is pretty high and it is a place where we have brought foreign guests. If you have a table on the upper deck, you have a view of the river and like the previous reviewer mentioned, you can see the sun set. However, the flipside to dining alfresco is that there can be quite a few insects / mosquitos lurking around so beware. If you want to be safe and avoid the insects, book a table indoors for dining. You can always step outside for the view and take your pictures at sunset. Location wise, the restaurant is located opposite the Strand Hotel so you can always have a drink at the iconic Strand and then head across the road to Junior Duck for dinner.
Good Chinese food in Yangon
Visited here on a rainy evening in July. Had a short wait for a table but it was definitely worth the wait. A busy, family friendly place with helpful staff and a picture book style menu, which is great when you can read or speak Burmese. The food was freshly cooked with a good choice of Chinese food. The roast duck was excellent as was the crispy fried fish. Staff were helpful and friendly and the restaurant was clean, catering for mainly local families.
Excellent food
Excellent food, great views over the river, no tourists, efficient and friendly service and reasonable prices. What more could you want?
Good restaurant on the river
Take care there are 2 ducks in rangoon. Junior duck is close to the harbour and the river. Terrace opens at 17:00 (so before 17:00 you can only eat on ground floor). Not so cheap, maybe, versus others roasted duck specialists. Big choice of food. Service correct. Many locals eating in the evening. A good choice for one evening
