Best coffee around!

Love going to the nook; great coffee and atmosphere. very sad that their bedford location closed down. great service always!

Delicious coffee

We stopped at this place looking for warm drink after watching Canada day parade on the Citadel. Place was filled with a crowd definitely enjoying this place. Staff was very friendly and each coffee we ordered was just perfect. Unfortunately they just run out of coconut milk, but latte with almond milk was also very tasty.

The Nook has a big heart with a cozy atmosphere

Nevermind their great food and coffee, I would support The Nook because of their token program alone. If you're a sucker for vendors with a big heart, go to The Nook.

Delicious food and great atmosphere

Went for breakfast on a Sunday and had a great London Fog with soy and the Vegan Ambition wrap. Delicious and massive! Also extremely vegan friendly. There's a great selection of vegan baked goods and lots of menu items that are either vegan or can be modified. Would absolutely recommend The Nook for anyone!

Terrible Service.. didnt even get to eat

I was going to a concert at the Marquee club across the street, we decided to go to The Nook for a bite to eat, my wife has eaten there before and had rave reviews. We arrived at approximately 630 and sat down, to my surprise no one welcomed us, or came to our table, we waited approximately 10 mins then I said apparently no one is coming to the table. At this time I got up and went to the cash and politely asked for menus, ALL THAT WAS SAID TO ME WAS " JUST UNDER THE COUNTER ", we sit decide what we want, still 0 service by this time it is almost 6:45... I decide to get up and just go order our food and drinks, As I begin to order 6:45 The girl at the cash says... " Would you like that packed to go? we close in 15 minutes. At this point I am fuming # 1 no one took care of us at 630, no one said we are closing when I got the menus, only when I went to order was there any mention of closing, even then are you not still open?are you not still taking an otrder and letting us eat? What the hell kind of poor service is that? what profession Restaurant / Café does that? 30 minutes wasted but thank you we went somewhere worth going to with great service. even twice after this I gave the opportunity for an explanation, sent two email in which I received no reply.

Excellent coffee, good food, quaint space

I came to The Nook and purchased a burro bowl which is basically a plant based burrito bowl, along with an iced vanilla latte. The iced vanilla latte was AMAZING, on par with some of the best coffee I've ever had. Very smooth taste for espresso. I will say, I came to The Nook once before and ordered an iced coffee and did not enjoy it at all, so if you are getting coffee from here I recommend the espresso based beverages. The iced coffee tasted very watered down, similar or maybe even more watered down than the iced coffees from Tim Hortons. The burro bowl was also excellent; very healthy and full of flavors that all complimented one another well. It certainly tastes like something you could easily make at home, but I still very much enjoyed it. The space in The Nook is small with a quiet cafe vibe. You order at the counter and they bring it to you. All in all, will definitely be back to try more food / drinks.

J'y retournerai encore.

Great Coffee, Pastry, Art On Walls And An Opportunity To Nourish The Soul

This morning, my wife, son and I went to this very charming coffee shop on Gottingen Street, an area whose residents often have daily challenges to meet basic needs. This coffee shop found a way for customers to share their good fortune with those less fortunate. My wife ordered hot water and lemon, my son and I had delicious cups of coffee and I had a very satisfying chocolate and nut tart. The service was excellent and with a smile, the establishment was very clean and graced with interesting and beautiful art. The other customers ordered nonalcoholic beverages, salads and sandwiches. We all felt better from our experience.

Small cafe with a heart

They do this in parts of Europe. You pay ahead for coffee and muffin or a meal for someone in need. The food was excellent. You go to the counter and order, the food is brought to you when ready. The sever was pleasant and if more restaurant operated like this the restaurant industry would be making the world a better place.

Healthy food and quiet cafe

This is on of my favourite cafes in Halifax. I like the chilled out atmosphere where you can drink a coffee and relax. It never really gets too busy, it actually only has room for about 20-30 people at most. The food is healthy and reasonably priced. I have always had quick, friendly service. A stop off spot on my way home from the pool.

Horrible service & terrible baristas

I came in here a few months ago and was shocked at the service and the exceptionally low knowledge of the " baristas " working there. I asked for a dry cappuccino, and in a very condescending way, the only two baristas on the floor, asked me what that was and treated me as if it didn't exist. They proceeded to ask me if I wanted a flat white instead, which I then stated is a short latte (less milk) and less foam vs. a regular latte. I was shocked that they even compared a flat white and a cappuccino. I then told them that a dry cap was just espresso and microfoam and they ended up making a flat white. I left it on the table untouched as I didn't have time to deal with two, young pretentious people who don't know how to put a quality drink out. Very terrible service and not even sub par drinks being made

Great for vegans, vegetarians and omnivores alike. Great ambiance

I don't know why more restaurants don't plan their menus with this model in mind _ option for vegans and vegetarians as well as meat eaters. The owners of the Nook have this figured out. We loved coming here for bagel sandwiches in the morning and pecan blondies to take away for snacking later. The staff were really friendly and genuine and eating at The Nook made our stay near the North End extra special. Loved the clean open look of the place as well as the living wall and many plants lining the table against the big windows. We'll go back in a heartbeat.

Delicious food!

A bit pricier but in my opinion it is worth it. Super nice decor! I had the bagel with tomatoes and goat cheese two days in a row. Super delicious. Had the blueberry lemonade, I assume it's sugar free since it is very sour and not very sweet. Cool place!

Incredibly rude staff

I will not be returning to The Nook. One staff member in particular was extremely rude and the drinks were mediocre at best. Over priced. There are many lovely coffee shops in the area. This is not one of them.

Great little place for a snack or meal!

This place always has a great selection of baked goods, or sandwiches, or even a meal. Their staples are always fresh and delicious, and I've never been dissapointed with anything I've ordered. Nice atmosphere as well. A+!

A Lovely Spot to settle down with a nice book and warm food

The nook lives up to its name, providing a cozy atmosphere with several nooks to hide away in. The food is fresh, nutritious, but there are lots of delicious treats on hand as well. You couldn't ask for a better spot to cuddle up on a chilly Nova Scotian day with a deep coffee mug and a brownie near by.

Great coffee plus excellent service

Friendly, relaxed atmosphere and the coffee and pastries, along with a cheery baristas hit the spot on a chilly fall day.

A great discovery and nice change

Wanted a change from the usual chain coffee shops. Had an Americano and cranberry muffin. The coffee was strong and the muffin fresh. It was mid morning and there was a lot of traffic with coffee to go (expected) but there was a considerable amount of take out food (surprising). Menu contains a good assortment of vegetarian options - must try something on next visit. The Nook is a quite, pleasant place to stop for a coffee. A good amount of recycled wood gives it a " homey " feeling. Two unusual booths with curtains partially covering the front, five tables, a sofa, a counter along the window facing the street, and another small counter in the back. Interesting table tops - old California job cases covered with glass. Counter staff made frequent journeys into the " front " to clear tables.

The s'more squared got me hooked!

I really only ate the S'mores Squares, but I ate them 3 times a week. I even started to buy some for locals who where so unfortunate not to live nearby. Friendly staff, and great neighborhood spot. They also serve my favorite Bourbon, Woodford Reserve!

Very cold welcome!

Very poor service. As I entered the place, the waiter ignored me... more precisely, I must say he looked at me as a stranger who enter a private room. I sat a short moment and nothing happened. Than I went at the counter to realize that I had to order there. It would have been so simple and nice to tell me!!!

A gem

This place is awesome! They have great coffee, they have awesome food, the atmosphere is really cool and the staff are really nice. Their tables are one of the coolest things I have seen! Old typeset drawers with glass on top... Amazing! They also spotlight artists work on a rotational basis. It truly is a cool little hang out spot, they even have games there for you to play. The only downside is, for what you get it is a bit expensive, but yummy. So although I might not go everyday, I will definitely make it an often stop!

Hidden Gem

Loved this place. It was recommended by a relative with discerning taste. Quite rightly too. Excellent, healthy fare. Will definitely return to this one to sample other items on their menu. Loved the trio of dips with naan bread, also the wrap sandwich. A lot of food to share with a group, or plenty if you're hungry. Breakfast is served all day. Delicious nosh, nice location, friendly staff.

Best Lemon Square

A funky but friendly atmosphere. People sit around socializing or working on their computers. This is a place where people relax and stay for awhile. Burlap and recycled wood add to a casual atmosphere. The coffee is good and the lemon squares are outstanding.

Love this spot

My perfect early morning spot in Halifax Montreal bagels, great coffee, cozy not cramped - and it opens at 0700 not 730. Great local menu

Nice spot for a casual after-work happy hour

Stopped in here for a casual after-work happy hour on a Friday evening, and wasn't disappointed. The menu is sufficiently large to have something for everyone, whilst not being overwhelming. They have a good selection of both cafe-style (tea / coffee) and alcoholic drink options, as well as snacks, meals, and baked goods. They also have a selection of board games for those who wish to use them. Tried the strong warm cider (hot spiced cider with a shot of cinnamon whiskey), and it was very good. We had to wait a little while to get our drinks, but when we did they were brought right out to where we were sitting, which was nice.

Friendly little cafe

We were staying a few doors down, and took advantage of this place both days we were there. My latte was good, and I enjoyed their simple breakfasts as well. Cozy and clean.

Nifty non-chain Coffee

We rented a condo in the Theatre Lofts for a week vacation in Halifax. The Nook is at street level of the condo building, so a quick walk downstairs every morning for us. These guys take their coffee very seriously but are not the least bit stuffy or overbearing about it. My standard was an extra-large Americano with an extra shot of Expresso. Perfect every time. They have some great pastries, some of the best date squares I have ever had. There is a long counter with individual stools at the window, several cushioned seats at another window, and a couple of tables with chairs if you want to enjoy your goodies outside. It's a slightly quirky layout inside but thats part of it's charm and I would have no problem bringing associates here for a quick business discussion, or to meet friends, or just a solo trip. Great spot! They open 8am daily, but 9am on the weekends (sad face).

Great Ambiance

I always enjoy a visit to The Nook on Gottingen. It is a tad quirky in layout but that just makes it a more special spot. I think I'd visited at least 3 times before realizing they had little alcoves along one wall where you can sip tea on deep cushions, in a very Eastern tradition. Sadly, my old hip joints won't allow that, but I can always dream. A gang of us dropped in one evening after a Board meeting. It was lovely to order up some plates of mixed foods, a bottle of wine or a nice beer and just hang out in informal groupings. The coffee is consistently excellent at The Nook. The service is warm and friendly. Good range of snacks and light meals. I meet a lot of friends and business colleagues in this spot and know that I will always enjoy myself.

Chai Latte very special

enjoyed the best ever chai latte recently; these folks are very serious about their coffee and teas. Seating is odd, but a great place to meet with friends or conduct some quick business.
