At the end of the earth.... remote but picturesque and peaceful
The Inn is truly at the end of the road. Rose Blance is a small, quite pretty little town. We saw very few people but did see a small moose behind our car in the night. The lighthouse is wonderful, and not the same as most. It is made from rock and looks majestic at the top of the hill. Be sure to stop and walk in to see Barachois Falls on your way in or out. It is wonderful and you can get close to it. We met the owner of the Inn and he was very friendly & helpful. Only drawback was the brownish water that seems to be an issue everywhere in the area...
Loved it
Such a cool place, even though the weather was not stellar! It was foggy and cool, so hiking around the area wasn't the best. I was able to tour the lighthouse. Out stay at the Inn was a nice experience and it offered more than I had planned. There was a full kitchen, so if you had the food items you needed to prepare your dinner, you were in luck. Not many restaurants nearby, so you needed to be prepared ahead of time. Water, juice, dry cereal, bread and milk were provided in the kitchen, so you could easily have breakfast. There were 4 rooms on the second floor, and even though our room was on the smaller side, it had everything se needed. Loved it and was worth the trip. It was our last stay before we boarded the ferry to head home, following a month long road tour of Newfoundland. Perfect ending.
Disappointed and sick from Mildred, musky sell
The location is beautiful and peaceful. Unfortunately it's not the place to stay if you have allergies to moldy, mildew smells. I booked for 2 nights and specially informed them I a email that I had allergies to chemicals including cleaning products, carpet fresh, airfresher and moldy, musky smells. Upon arrival as soon as my husband opened the door he said you won't be able to stay here.. the lower rooms which included the kitchen, dining rm and TV rm had a strong musky smell. The rms upstairs seemed fine so I thought ok I can deal with this. Trying to make breakfast the next morning was torture. My lips and tongue were tingling and I got a headache. We had to leave and seeing how I informed them before hand that I had this allergy I figured I should be entitled to a refund. It was promptly denied. I would recommend this f place to anyone with allergies, copd or any breathing issues.
Great Location for a visit to Rose Blanche Lighthouse
We stayed at the Lightkeepers Inn on our first night in Newfoundland so that we could visit the Rose Blanche Lighthouse. It was clean and comfortable. Although the rooms are a bit small there is a spacious sitting and dining area, a main floor washroom in addition to the ensuites, and a large deck. Breakfast is self serve with cereal and bread for toast. The kitchen is well-supplied for you to cook if you bring a few groceries. The road back to the B & B is a bit rough so we were happy that we could get supper at the Grub Box right there beside the gift shop. While it's mostly fast food, I had the best pan-fried cod of our whole Newfoundland trip! There was a boil water advisory so bottled water was provided at the B & B. Laundry facilities are available with a fee for laundry soap. If you have sensitivities to scent, be aware that there is a very strong odour of laundry and cleaning products in some areas of the house. Check in was easy with the friendly staff at the gift shop and your admission to the Lighthouse is included with your stay. It was foggy the day we were there but that sort of added to the charm.
Location, Location
We stayed at the LIghthouse Keepers B & B in Rose Blanche for 2 nights in August. We arrived in Port-aux-Basques via the ferry and arrived in Rose Blanche approximately 45 minutes later. The drive reveals rugged, beautiful scenery. The accommodation was very clean and comfortable. It is a quiet location in the evening. We had reserved the Skinner Room which has a double bed, bedside table, dresser and ensuite bathroom with shower. The room wasn't huge but was a decent size. The window (harbour view) can be opened and a fan is provided to cool the room if required. There are four bedrooms available at the property and all are located on the second storey. There is a common kitchen, dining room and living room on the ground floor. A laundry room is available. A fee applies. This is not an English B & B. There is no onsite host although a continental breakfast consisting of cold cereals, instant oatmeal, bread, fruit and juice is provided. Coffee and tea are provided for brewing Breakfast is self serve. The kitchen is available to guests if they want to make their lunch or dinner. Guests are requested to wash their own dishes in those instances. Go to the nearby gift shop to pick up your key when you arrive. Being so close to the trails leading to the lighthouse is a real bonus. The Southwest Coast has numerous walking trails (including Rose Blanche). It is worth considering a stay in this community because the area offers several natural diversions in addition to the outstanding lighthouse.
Great location
The B & B was clean. It is a converted traditional Newfoundland home, so the rooms are a little small. The breakfast was self-service continental breakfast (toast, cereal, juice and coffee). The location is a short, beautiful walk from the Rose Blanche Lighthouse. We enjoyed an hour each afternoon strolling through the area. It is truly beautiful!
