A wonderful week
Rosesea B and B was a home for a week. What a wonderful stay. The breakfasts were awesome the host and hostess were the friendliest people on earth. They guided us to the different trails and told us what to look for. Created a kitchen party for us a d we had a funtastic great time. I would go back in a heart beat and there is no way to beat the wonderful scenery in Newfoundland
Must see!!!
This place started off our Newfoundland trip in the best way possible. At the end of the road but the place and people are a must see. The accommodation is clean and comfortable with incredible views. Lorna and Norm are the BEST hosts!!!! Lots of walking and history to do or just enjoy the beautiful surroundings in a great B & B.
Very clean and comfortable, a wonderful B & B
This is a self-contained B & B with a sitting area and kitchen for guests. It is located on some rocks with nice water views. When we arrived we were informed that the owner had passed a few months previous but this years bookings were being honored with the help of Lorna. I do hope they are able to keep this B & B open as it is very welcoming and well situated for hikes and short day trips in the area. Lorna was wonderful and knows the area well.
Newfoundland Hospitality at its Best!
Located in Rose Blanche on the south coast of NL, RoseSea is built on the rocks surrounding its snug harbour. This is a very comfortable B and B run by a very welcoming lady and her partner. Supper and breakfast were included in our reasonable price. She prepared NL cod like none I had ever tasted before. There was a wonderful dessert with shortbread bottom topped off with the famous partridgeberry preserves made on site. Breakfast was fruit filled crepes topped off with more local seasonal fruit. Also, we were served toast which we could also top with another famous NL berry- the bake apple. Both berries are my very favourites! This was Newfoundland hospitality at its very best. Would I return? Of course!
Good accommodation in a beautiful location
The accommodation is excellent and Rose Blanche is an achingly beautiful location. A photographer and painters' paradise. I only spent a night there and next time will spend several days. This would be a wonderful place to hold a photography workshop or seminar.
Relaxing Stay at RoseSea B & B
Very comfortable and relaxing stay. Host was very nice and informative about the area. Wonderful breakfast. The location is superb, right on the waterfront with iconic views of the harbour. Close to the Lighthouse trail.
Excellent on all counts
A gem of a find in this lovely place at the 'end of the road'. Stay here and relax in this Interesting artistic environment with comfortable rooms. Excellent food and conversation. An ideal spot to explore fascinating Rose Blanche.
Great Bed and Breakfast
Lynn was a terrific hostess for our one night stay in Rose Blanche. We have visited many places in Newfoundland but so far Rose Blanche was our favorite. It is quiet and peaceful. The deck offers views of spectacular sunsets. We opted to buy the dinner with our stay and we were not disappointed. Lynn started our feast with homemade noodle soup, homemade bread, and then we had fresh cod, caught that morning. It was all delicious and served on china plates. For breakfast we chose fruit crepes and they were terrific too. The lodgings were lovely, and filled with books about Newfoundland, and the internet as well. Lynn is an artist and writer, which are reflected in the decor of her guest house. There is a kitchen where guests could prepare food as well. I highly recommend Lynn's Guest house. The lighthouse is set on a hill atop giant boulders, and is amazing to photograph. It is only 10 minutes from Lynn's place. We went after the season was over and so none of the shops, or tours were going. I was fine with that. I liked having the place to myself. I'm sure that it would be fun to watch how they restored the lighthouse, but it was great just to look at it. Also- be warned - there are no restaurants, banks, stores, or other places to buy things there- so bring what you need with you. There is also a ferry that takes off from there to visit another outport that is only reached by ferry. We plan on going back.
Excellent!
Lots of room, clean and comfortable rooms with a self catering kitchen included. Right on the picturesque fishing harbour, the Rose Sea B & B is a perfect base for exploring the area which has a rugged beauty. Lots of hiking opportunities around including the Rose Blanche restored lighthouse and the hike to Barachois Falls. The owner, Lynn, offers a supper if given a day's notice. We took advantage of this and were rewarded with a very nicely cooked cod dinner including soup, dessert and tea or coffee. In the morning we chose the fruit crepe option and loved the breakfast! We wished we'd had more time to stay. It would make a wonderful artist's retreat: so much around for creativity plus a great space to create in!
fantastic place
this restored guest house is very, very lovely. it is quaint and beautiful. we ate dinner here one night and we had two breakfasts. all of our meals here were fantastic. Lorna is a great cook and she helps the owner. this is located in a very cute small fishing village that is off the beaten path, so it is especially exciting place to discover. great place to visit
Wonderful way to end our Newfoundland trip
We stayed here for one night before we took the ferry home from Port Aux Basque the next day and we couldn't have made a better choice. The B & B is a 45 minute coastal drive from Port Aux Basque and the landscape is so beautiful - its well worth the drive. We were greeted by Lorna (owner Lynn was away, sorry we missed her!) who showed us to our double room which overlooked the harbour wth an en-suite bathroom. There was a beautiful common room overlooking the harbour, the decor was clean and modern, and the bed was very comfortable. If the weather had been better we would have been able to sit on the deck overlooking the harbour. However the real treat was the dinner Lorna cooked for us in the Mandolyn Studio next door. The breakfast the next morning was also excellent, It was the perfect way to end our trip and I would highly recommend this lovely B & B. Thanks Lorna and Lynn for your wonderful place and hospitality.
Calling all Artists
An amazingly beautiful location. The harbor and the whole little fishing town are quaint and lovely. The Rose Sea Guest House is a completely remodeled fresh house. Our arrival was in early evening. As there are no restaurants in town for dinner, our dinner was prepared by the B & B. It was locally prepared fresh fish caught in the morning. Delicious!!! Breakfast was wonderful.
Superbe

Lobster, single malts and conversation
Emily and I started our father / daughter vacation in Newfoundland at the RoseSea and we could not have made a better choice. As owner Lynne said, there are some places that are only for those willing to go " to the end of the road " and RoseSea is quite literally at the end of the paved road in Rose Blanche and well-worth the trip. Just 40 minutes from the ferry in Port-aux-Basques, the town and the people embody Newfoundland's fishing heritage and reputation for self-sufficiency and the countryside seems as wild and untamed as it would have been when first settled. RoseSea and Madolyn's Studio (and I'll let her tell you the story behind that name) are as welcoming as family. My daughter and Lynne took to each other right away and Norman and I talked about everything under the sun, while sipping single malt whiskies. After my daughter went home and at the end of my vacation I stayed there for another 2 days and enjoyed lobster and more wonderful hospitality. I will be back!
A Definite Stop in Rose Blanche
Beautiful location on the water. Our room was lovely and clean. Lynne and Norman were very inviting, and informative. We had a delicious breakfast in Madolyn's Studio. If the weather had been drier, we could have had breakfast waterside - next time.
A Heavenly Evening
We didn't stay at RoseSea Guest House but we arranged to have dinner there one evening during our 2 weeks in Rose Blanche. Lynn was an amazing hostess and we enjoyed our dinner and bottle of wine on the deck outside overlooking the harbour. Our table was so beautifully set! We had fresh cooked rolls still warm from the oven and a lovely beef vegetable soup to start, then had an amazing cod dish for our entree, everything was delicious. To finish off our incredible meal, we had dessert, I thoroughly enjoyed a partridgeberry cheesecake with tea. Lynn noticed I was a bit chilly and brought me a cozy afghan to keep me warm which was so thoughtful! After dinner, Lynn toured us through all the newly renovated rooms on offer, they were all impeccably clean and tastefully furnished and I would definitely stay here if my father-in-law didn't have a house in Rose Blanche! We also saw the studio and some of Lynn's work, a beautiful space with loads of natural light... the perfect place to be inspired to create a masterpiece or two! I'll definitely be back for another meal at RoseSea :)
A secret gem on the southern coast
My sister and I recently visited Rose Blanche and stayed at a lovely B & B, the RoseSea Guest House and Madolyn's Studio. This was my second visit to Rose Blanche and my sister's first. I fell in love with the unique and enchanting community and surrounding landscape. The landscape is like nothing I have experienced elsewhere in Canada. It is quiet, pristine and beautiful. We stayed at the RoseSea Guest House that only enhanced our stay in the colourful, picturesque Rose Blanche. The room was clean and newly renovated, and overlooked a beautiful cove and harbour. Our hosts were most accommodating and very helpful. The food was terrific and I met many lovely people staying at the B & B. Lynn is also an artist with an eclectic range of works displayed throughout the B & B. Rose Blanche is a mere 45-minute drive from Port aux Basques and well worth the detour / visit / stay. There is lovely hiking, spectacular scenery, falls, an old yet beautifully restored granite lighthouse..... really I would recommend both Rose Blanche and the RoseSea B & B as places not to miss if you plan a trip to Newfoundland!
Good, not great
We enjoyed our two nights at the RoseSea Guest House. We stayed in the en suite bedroom on the ground floor. Like all the rooms, it is on the small side and sparsely furnished. The bathroom is pretty basic as well, but the twin beds were comfortable and we slept well. The whole place is clean as a whistle. There is no TV in the room, and just a very small one in the common area. We found the wifi to be pretty good. The breakfasts were very good, and the service friendly. We also had one dinner there and it was okay. To be sure, there are not a lot of places to eat in the surrounding area, and a limited number of things to see and do. I see this as a pre- or post-ferry stop, not really a destination. It probably didn't help that the weather was awful while we were there. That being said we found much better accommodations in places like Cow Head and Port au Choix at a very similar price.
An Exceptional B & B in an Exceptional Town
Rose Sea is a delightful b & b in a renovated outport house. It is spotlessly clean with comfortable beds, beautiful views of the town from the windows, a cozy common area, charming hosts, and delicious breakfasts and dinners. Rose Blanche is a lovely outport town; I recommend a stay of a few days to fully explore the area and to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this part of the province.
Fabulous
We were at this wonderful B and B owned by Lynn and Norm. It was so charming, clean and great food. The tea room was full of art and Lynn and Norm couldn't be more helpful. Lynn has Cordon Bleu training and is an artist. The village is so charming, very rugged and friendly.
Great place to stay
Turn right off the ferry and you will find this unique B & B in a picturesque setting. Lynne and Norman are terrific hosts and will easily meet your needs. Wonderful art work throughout the buildings. Lynne is a gourmet cook and can provide a delicious supper on request. This is our third stay at the RoseSea. A visit to the lighthouse is recommended.
A place for rest and relaxation
This is a beautiful bed and breakfast. The house is recently renovated and decorated very tastefully. There is artwork everywhere! My room was very comfortable and I enjoyed having my own sink and toilet in the room. The common area is bright and inviting. I was fortunate to be able to have two dinners during my stay in addition to my breakfasts. The owner is an accomplished cook and I believe that her aim is to indulge her guests with good food and friendly service! Who could ask for anything more!
It Doesn't Get Better Than This!
The RoseSea Guest House is located right on the harbour and has beautiful views of the rugged landscape that is unique to Rose Blanche. Everywhere you look is a photo opportunity. We stayed 3 nights in the room called the " Big Bottom " on the main floor. It had a full ensuite bathroom with shower, two comfortable beds and met our needs completely. The guest house and the adjacent Madolyn's Studio / tearoom were recently remodeled and are immaculate and tastefully decorated with lots of artwork and natural lighting. The guest house has a fully equipped kitchen that guests can use, a sitting room overlooking the harbour and a small library. The food was excellent - always delicious, satisfying and well presented. We had breakfast and dinner every day in the tearoom surrounded by beautiful paintings of local scenes, some done by RoseSea owner Lynne Sawford herself. Lynne is a great cook. You won't be disappointed! Lynne and her partner Norm were wonderful hosts and made our stay in Rose Blanche very enjoyable. They even helped me with my search for family roots in the area. Rose Blanche has suffered from the collapse of the cod fishery but it still has that authentic fishing village charm. The local residents were very friendly and always had time to chat and answer our questions. There are two things you must do when you visit Rose Blanche. One is to visit the granite lighthouse and the other is to visit the abandoned community of Petites. The lighthouse was restored in 1999 and is the last remaining granite lighthouse in Atlantic Canada. It is a must see. The views are spectacular. Don't forget your camera! Petites was a small fishing outport that fell victim to the government resettlement program in 2003. The people are gone but the buildings are still standing - 20 or more homes, a church, a school, a fire hall, etc. - all empty now and gradually falling apart. It's like a ghost town. The Bethany United church is said to be one of the oldest surviving wooden churches in Newfoundland and was declared a Registered Heritage Structure in 1994. You can still ring the bell. You can even go in some of these buildings but you have to be careful because they are deteriorating. Petites is a piece of history and represents a way of life that is rapidly disappearing. It is only accessible by boat (20 minute ride) so you have to find a local resident with a boat to take you there. Ask Lynne, she can put you in touch with someone. If you enjoy taking photographs or have any artistic tendencies, you will be inspired by the rugged, scenic coastline and the unique landscape that this part of Newfoundland offers..
Staying at the RoseSea at Rose Blanche
My husband and I stayed at this place for 2 nights in June this year. This is not a hotel, it is a B & B which is run by an extremely nice and well educated lady by the name of Lynn. This place is very special for people who enjoy seeing a small village with a collection of colorful small houses perched on a beautiful rocky shore, with the only granite lighthouse in Newfoundland. Lynn, the lady of the house can tell you many more stories about it. The room we had was very clean and had 2 single beds with attached half bath. There are also rooms which are bigger. Lynn will cook for you a delicious breakfast and if you like, lunch and dinner and will give you advise on hikes and sights to see. If you arrive by ferry at Port oux Basques you really should take a right turn along the seashore for a 40 minute drive to visit this rare treat before heading north to all your other destinations. You won't regret it.
It's Worth The Drive!
This place is a hidden treasure. Our hostess, Lynn, was helpful, friendly, and informative about the community. We ate both supper and breakfast here and the meals were top rate. The B & B is right on the harbour slip. The view in the morning looked like a postcard. There was no cell phone service but there was WiFi. The lighthouse is a must see.
Area needs two nights!
We booked for one night and drove from Corner Brook arriving around 5. There was a mix up with our reservation and they didn't realize they had confirmed our dinner reservation. We were offered fish cakes around 7 so decided to make a run to the lighthouse as they recommended due to impending rain. Lynn suggested a bit later than 7 to give us time at the lighthouse and we arrived at 7:30 to hot soup, a couple of fishcakes and a choice of three kinds of homemade squares for dessert. Internet issues had impacted on them being sure of our requests and their reply. They had it figured out when we got back. We were the only guests and had reserved the Big Bottom Room. It was nice to not have to carry luggage far and to have the bathroom. " Bottom " is a term for a land formation in the area and we saw streets called Big, Little, Long and Water Bottom. The house is spotless and beautifully decorated with art and crafts. It really is a beautiful renovation and attention to detail was excellent. The whole community is quiet and you can actually see the lighthouse from the upstairs rooms. The experience would be different with more guests but it was very relaxing. Retreat-like. Owners live in an apartment next door. Set up is well designed with the kitchen and dining area in the Studio adjacent and a great deck that is licenced. Owners apartment is below that. Breakfast was a choice of eggs and bacon and toast or crepes with mixed berries. Cereal was offered before and both the juice and coffee were good with generous portions. A crew of 6 arrived for breakfast from a sailboat moored nearby. They were visiting from France and apparently this is a common occurrence. We enjoyed and would recommend the Rose Blanche lighthouse but did not have time to do the trail at Isle aux Mort. Next time. One lady at the museum was especially personable in Burnt Island explaining that most of the men had to work away on the lake boats or out west since the closure of the fishery. The fact that women, rather than youth were employed on the grants was an indicator of the need for employment for adults and income in these communities. This is an amazingly beautiful area of Newfoundland. I can't think of another area with the same topography. It's beautifully unique and photos don't do it justice. Although the road is only about 45 km from Port aux Basques, allow for the fact you are driving at about 50 km most of the way. I would recommend two nights in this area or an early start to do some of the touring on the way in. We'll have to go back another time to do it right. Property is licenced and offers free wifi.
Fantastic stay - a real gem!
I stayed at this bed-and-breakfast with my family last week and we were really impressed by the level of care. The food was top notch and the views were spectacular. Crows launch is a beautiful place to visit and this is the perfect place to stay while there.
A Delightful B & B
Just a short distance from where we arrived in Port au Basque eastward. The community is the end of the highway going east and is as close to the old Newfoundland fishing village as one is likely to find with salt box houses huddled against the rocks of the aptly named granite coast. The Rose Sea B & B is pleasantly situated on one of the many coves. Clean, well kept and comfortable accommodations and fine food. The lady who runs the place is a Cordon Bleu graduate and demonstrates her skills in the meals served. A visit to the restored granite lighthouse and a trip by boat to Petites.. an out port village closed by a government " resettlement " program is worth some effort too.
A Positive Surprise
What a wonderful surprise to drive the beautiful road to Rose Blanche and find that the RoseSea Guest House was the perfect ending of our two week trip. Rose Blanche is worth a visit simply to enjoy the scenic drive, discover the relatively untouched villages of Rose Blanche and Harbour le Cou, and visit the old stone lighthouse. If you want to stay overnight, then Lyn's guesthouse is a great choice - recognizing that there are few alternatives. The beds are very good, although some are a little short if you exceed 6 feet in length. Only one room has a full en-suite, but with there are adequate full baths available. The public rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated. Make sure you ask Lyn to make you dinner as there are no restaurants in Rose Blanche. Great food at a reasonable price and she can provide wine or beer along with a pre-dinner single malt. Breakfast turned out to be as fine as the dinner. Don't miss this wonderful corner of Newfoundland.
Highlight of our trip to Newfoundland
We stayed at the Rosesea Guest House for two nights and it was truly a highlight of our 4-week travel across Newfoundland. The drive to Rose Blanche from Port Aux Basques is spectacular --beautiful vistas over sparkling ocean on one side, with rugged forest and hills on the other. You expect to see caribou along the ridges (and we were told that you do sometimes see them in winter) Rose Blanche is a lovely, peaceful outport, the last stop on the TransCanada, which adds to the allure and the charm. Lynne is a warm and welcoming host and she made us feel instantly at home. The guest house is beautifully and tastefully decorated and the rooms are spacious and very comfortable. There are Newfoundland books to browse through in the living room while gazing out over the harbour. Next door there is a wonderful tearoom and artist studio, with walls that are covered with colourful and inspiring artwork. There is also a lovely deck, where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine, a cold beer or a wee dram of good Scotch. It was a visit we'll never forget and we highly recommend a stay at the Rosesea Guest House!
A Jewel of a Place in a Wonderful Setting
Stayed here for a couple of nights in late August. I love places " at the end of the road " and this B & B stands out in all respects. Nice, new, quality accommodations in a setting that every photographer dreams of---- a quaint, picturesque harbor like the kind you see in the travel magazines. Lynne, the owner, could not have been kinder or more gracious and she is an excellent chef (professionally trained, I might add). She is a thoughtful lady and her personality shines though in all of the nice little touches that you will see around the guest house and the studio. Though all of our Newfoundland stays were enjoyable, RoseSea Guest House truly stands out. I cannot say enough nice things about this place !!!
A must see destination in Newfoundland!
The RoseSea Guest House and Madolyn's Studio was a real highlight and great way to end our time in Newfoundland. I cannot believe that in 5 prior visits to the island that I missed the stunning community that is Rose Blanche. Lynne is an incredible host and an impressive artist with a rich life to share. The setting was wonderful. The food was the best we had on the island. The accommodations were perfect.
A hidden gem!
We had a five star experience at this B and B. RoseSea Guest House is a hidden gem in a corner of Newfoundland that we found more breathtaking that the Cabot Trail, Peggy's Cove, or Gros Morne. Gros Morne and Cabot Trail have exciting vistas every so often. There are long spans of nondescript scenery. The 45 minute drive to Rose Blanche as well as the unique town of Rose Blanche provide one spectacular view after another. We are so glad that RoseSea Guest House gave us the opportunity to spend two nights in Rose Blanche. I don't believe there is any other lodging in the area. If there is, it is not likely as nice as RoseSea, which is right on the harbor. Rose Sea was completely renovated a couple of years ago. It's like a brand new house. The owners also bought the store next door and converted it into a kitchen / tearoom / art studio with an owner's apartment on the lower level. When we arrived Lynne, our hostess, showed us the house with its lovely kitchen and living room for use mainly by the guests. I have never felt so at home in a B and B as I did here. The first night the B and B was full. We sat in the living room, which overlooks the harbor, chatting with the other guests. Lynn came in just to ask that the last one up lock the door. The second night we were alone in the house and that was also an enjoyable experience. Breakfast was served in the kitchen / tearoom / studio at whatever time we requested. We had a choice of crepes or eggs and bacon. Lynne will provide a delicious home-made three course dinner upon request for $20.00 a person. Since there are no restaurants within many miles of Rose Blanche, this is an important benefit. Lynne is a wonderful hostess. She arranged for us to meet with an official of the town's Anglican Church where my husband's great grandfather was minister from1869-1875. Since the church is between ministers at the present moment, it took some effort on her part to find the appropriate person who found the church's records from 1869-1875.
Wow.. don't miss this place!
Lynne and Norman are gracious hosts at this lovely seaside B & B. The guest house has a kitchen and living area for guests. The Big Bottom room, on the first floor is handicapped accessible, with an ensuite washroom with enclosed shower. This is the only room with ensuite washroom. Everything is new. The house is immaculate. Breakfast was delicious, scrambled eggs and bacon and a blueberry crepe. There is a nice deck to sit and rest after a full day of hiking and exploring. The trail from Rose Blanche to Harbour LeCou is beautiful and leads to the Harbour that once once only accessible by boat. Lynne will also provide an evening meal upon advanced request. The charge was $20pp. Worth it, since there are no restaurants in Rose Blanche. Rose Blanche is a village that is often overlooked but should not be missed. It boasts the only working granite lighthouse in North America. If you have time, ask if they can find a local with a boat to take you to the unoccupied town of Petites. We did not have time do do this and truly regret that we missed it.
