Simply the Best
First and only choice for all wine tastings and countryside excursions. Deb and Massi are consummate professionals who demonstrate their evident love for Italian wine, food, and culture. The planning process was a breeze, and our time with Massi was unforgettable. From start to finish the experience was wonderful. We will happily recommend Italy Unfiltered to anyone looking for wine tours and tastings.
A Chianti Day to Remember
As a Host & Retreat Leader of 9 guests, I must say choosing Italy Unfiltered was a success. After planning months in advance to make sure I could schedule the date (as their roster fills quickly), choosing a plan that works with my itinerary and clientele, making location selections and more…. The whole day on September 29th, from pick up time at our Volterra, Italy villa to the arrivals at both vineyards was amazing! Massi was the driving captain & Deborah was the informative wine tour leader. The ride in their Sprinter was comfortable and Deborah's explanations for the Chianti wine growing regions' success made my guest feel well-informed and tantalized once their vintner's wine tasting choices touched their palates. The day was so gorgeous as the selected vineyards of Altiero & Terreno were intimate locations for tastings, presentations & dining. At Altiero, my guests learned about their humble beginnings directly from the Vintner, Samuela. And afterward, they learned how to wine taste using their senses checking for color, smell & taste under the instruction of Deborah Larsen. After our lovely gourmet lunch and wine pairing explanation at Terreno, we had the opportunity to walk the grounds and gardens. We even had enough time to venture off to Panzano to explore Antica macelleria Cecchini (Dario Cecchini's world-famous butcher shop & restaurant). In all, the day was a hit! The ladies and I had a memorable time together.
A Dream Day in Tuscany - Highly recommend this wine tour and more!
Brunello wine tour: We really experienced the out of the way beauty, charm, and fabulous Brunello wines of Tuscany on this tour. We visited two small, 3-generation family wineries Massi & Deb are friends with, and we were treated like family! We learned just how much manual work and love goes into producing the world famous Brunello wine. WINES WERE INCREDIBLE!! Fabulous chef-made lunch at 2nd winery. Plus Massi & Deb were so delightful and fun to spend the day with. Knowledgeable and shared their love of Tuscany. Tour included the amazing scenery of Val d'Orcia & gorgeous villages of Montalcino and Pienza. Thanks to Deb & Massi for being extremely responsive, easy to work with, and very helpful on planning our trip to Siena too. Recommend staying in Siena, we loved it!
Wine tour recommended
Fabulous wine tour in Chianti region. Our driver Massi was very friendly and knowledgeable, he told us a lot about the region, wines, cheeses and olive oil. Our first stop was a delicious cheese shop where we had a cheese tasting. Next we went to a beautiful and marvelous winery and had lunch with wine tasting (nice pairings) The drive itself was magical, the views are unbeatable. Then we went to a small women run organic winery which also had beautiful scenery and lovely wines. Last we stopped at a cute town Panzano and went to the famous butcher shop. I recommend this tour and you can customize to your wishes.
Perfect day!
What an amazing day! This was absolutely perfect! Massi was such a great and knowledgeable guide and made this an experience I will always cherish! We went to two wonderful wineries in Montalcino, San Lorenzo and Paradiso, and tasted some wonderful Brunello's in a very small intimate setting. We spent an hour in Montalcino, which is a wonderful little town, then headed to Pienza for some Pecorino cheese. On our way home, Massi surprised us with a beautiful sunset of the valley with Prosecco, bread, and fresh olive oil. (As a birthday gift) absolutely an amazing experience that I will always treasure! I am looking forward to using him again in May, and seeing what other lovely trips him and his wife Deborah will plan! I definitely feel as I have gained a lifelong friend!
The most amazing Tuscan countryside trip
Deb & Massi are a great team and truly created a bespoke Tuscan countryside excursion for us that we will never forget (and we are not easily pleased). Through their super efficient WhatsApp service we were able to research and organise the perfect itinerary before our holiday. Pickup from Florence in Massi's air conditioned mercedes then a scenic drive to Greve, Montefurielle for amazing picture stops and mini tours of each village before stopping for wine tasting and a delicious lunch over looking the beautiful wine yards at Casa Emma. We finished off in San Gimignano (for the best Gelato in the world) before heading the Michael Angelo view point where Massi had arranged champagne cheese and biscuits for us with the most beautiful view of Florence! Amazing knowledge, service and value we were safe to leave but hopefully use their services again. The best in town for sure! Thanks again Deb and Massi. Megan & James 🇬🇧
Chianti and Brunello Wine Tours - Perfection
Where to even start..... We booked the Chianti tour first then we decided to add the Brunello tour as well. Both tours were the highlight of our Italian trip. We were picked up for the Chianti tour in Florence where we were staying and our journey began. We first were taken to a regional wine festival where lots of local wineries were sampling their wines, olive oils and balsamic vinegars all of which were satisfying and started acquiring wines at that point. We were then take to several family owned organic Chianti Classico wineries where we had an amazing Tuscan lunch. We were able to taste the amazing wines and balsamic some where up to 30 years old. Our day ended up being delivered to our next destination Siena. Next day we were picked up at our Airbnb for the Brunello tour. It was a little rainy that day but that did not hamper or prevent Massi from delivering us another fantastic day of tasting wine. Lunch in Montalcino was an awesome treat where Massi got to give us a little more history of the region. We continue on to several more Brunello wine makers and had incredible tasting views. While we did not get to meet Deb this time around we hope to get to meet her on our next journey back to Tuscany as we know we will do more of their tours in the near future. Massi was awesome, he helped translate what the winemaker wanted to say so we would have a better understating of their process and the passion they put into their wine. Since Massi knows the area so well you get a lot of history that you would not normally find elsewhere. We highly recommend their wine tours and we look forward to spending more time in Siena as we found it to be so peaceful and seemingly unchanged in time. Until next time. Thanks Massi and Deb
Amazing Brunello, Amazing Tour
We visited the Montalcino area in mid-November, a perfect time as the air was cool but comfortable, the skies were blue and the leaves changing. Deb and Massimo were our guides for a full-day of exploring the amazing wines of the region. They graciously picked us up at our hotel and we were quite comfortable in their van. Deb filled us in on the details surrounding DOCG and the Montalcino region. Massimo was our expert pilot. In the morning, we had the chance to visit two organic vineyards. Roberto started making wine as a second career and built his vineyard from scratch. We had the chance to taste his Rosso di Montalcino, as well as his Brunello and he kindly allowed us to try various vintages. We also tried his freshly pressed olive oil (and bought 4L!). The tour of his work area including sampling young wine directly from the barrel, where he was experimenting with some different blends. Following this, we went to meet Lucciano. He has taken over the family farm and started wine making. Tasting his wines, including Rosso and Brunello, Riserva and a variety of wines with different ages was amazing. We tasted some directly from the aging barrel as well. Lucciano was a gracious host and we loved his wines. We had lunch in a small town with thermal springs and, in the afternoon (after briefly falling asleep in the car), we visited the town of Montalcino. We explored the old fort and then went to an Enoteca, where we had the chance to taste over 100 Brunellos and Rosso di Montalcino's. Deb and Massimo were fantastic hosts throughout and really made the effort to personalize the tour to our preferences. We also had the chance to meet Venus, a very lucky dog who helps with the tours. We highly recommend Italy Unfiltered as a great way to explore Siena and the wine country surrounding. I will also say that it was easy communicating with them and they responded promptly, both via email and with Whatsapp.
Fantastic!
The best two days of a two-week trip to Italy were spent touring multiple wineries with Deb and Masi in Chianti and Montalcino. They took us to some hidden gems we wouldn't have known about otherwise, and we sampled some amazing food and wine. We did one tour on our own one day, and another with another couple of friends who were staying in Siena. We had a lovely surprise picnic lunch at one of the stops and private lunch for all of us at one of the family wineries we visited. They will happily customize a tour based on your wine preferences and food requirements. One of our friends with us is gluten free and there was no problem accommodating her requests. We had a fantastic time and look forward to booking our next tour. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an interesting, customized, and very fun private tour! Skip the tour groups and busses and get a real taste of Italy.
Very good, personalised wine tours
Deb and Massi are both delightful, offering excellent service and access to wonderful wineries and sights in Chianti. The day had four stops. We initially stopped for prosecco and a view (we enjoyed Massi's sabrage!) which helped relax. The first wine stop was at La Piaggia farm and winery. This was magnificent. Meeting the Family here, and being introduced to the life of small Italian wine makers was just superb. The quality of production and tour here was easily the highlight of the day, and worth the price of admission. This was also very generous, with Enrico opening three bottles of wine for the lunch! The White, Chianti Classico, and Reserve were all wonderful. The three hours here, with the wonderful lunch prepared by Deb and Massi were amongst the most enjoyable I've had on holiday. The afternoon was perhaps a little less successful for us. We had a pleasant stroll around one of the Chianti hill towns (I'm embarrassed to say I can't remember which) followed quickly by the second winery. Due to inclement weather, this was inside, and the overall experience and wine quality was not as rich as that offered by La Piaggia. With that said, we again had wonderful quality reserve Chianti Classico, and Grappa. Although there were only two formal winery stops, the tastings are very generous. In regards to the overall score, my sister and I wondered if we were exactly the right match for Italy unfiltered. While they offer excellent relaxed tours, it was not a 'wine tour' in the sense we are used to in Australia, focusing on Viticulture and Wine and food pairing. We also thought perhaps the start of the tour should have defined a little more the plans for the day and a timeframe, as we ended up being too late for our stop at the Castle (we would have happily skipped the initial tastes of vinegary table wine at the second vineyard). Massi and Deb graciously removed the cost of the castle part of the tour. In a way, I was reminded of the countryside scenes in the film A Room with a View a couple of times during the tour; it was a lovely wander and picnic through the Italian countryside, with wine along the way! I would recommend Massi and Deb.
Chianti picnic tour a definite highlight to our 1 week stay in Siena
Deb and Massi went above and beyond in ensuring that we had a wonderful and special day with them. We went on 2 day trips: the Brunello tour, and the Chianti tour. From a spontaneous Prosecco stop on our Brunello tour to the most amazing picnic I've ever had on our Chianti tour, the two clearly put a lot of planning and attention to details for their tours. The Chianti tour is an incredible experience. The view from a top a hill with wine and incredible local produce, charcuterie, cheeses, and great company... how could you possibly ask for more. I still dream of the artichokes they brought. And they don't hold back at all. The picnic was set as if to serve a party of 4 or more... just for my gf and I. The wine tours were carefully chosen and we were given very intimate tours, completely unrushed and at our pace. At one, we were even served a full dinner with local specialties to complement the wine tasting. I would highly recommend them to anyone visiting the area. The Chianti tour would be my first recommendation, but don't be afraid to request something specific that you'd be looking for. They were also great in recommending us many other things to do and see during our 1 week stay in Siena. Thank you Deb and Massi! Peter & Kristy
Fun, Tasty, and Genuine
I am a fairly experienced traveler, especially in Italy, but Deborah of Italy Unfiltered completely opened my eyes to new experiences. She knows the roads and the locals. She's super fun, full of stories, ideas, enthusiasm, and a thirst for life and all the real experiences it has to offer. She is rejuvenating. Not to mention... she knows where the good eats and drinks are. I had the best wine in the world, napped in a vineyard to the sound of Mozart, drove 40 minutes just to get a plate of grilled meat with her, learned the bargaining line for stores, road tripped to Puglia and so much more!
