Qutub Minar - The Largest Medieval Tower
Qutub complex is a must watch for any history enthusiast visiting Delhi. As one of the oldest monuments of Delhi, Qutub complex comprise of the largest minaret Qutub minar, medieval mosques, tomb of Iltutmish, the unfinished minaret, Ashoka pillar, etc. Time to visit: Before 9am or after 3pm
Qutub minar
The qutub minar is an architectural beauty, It is best to visit early morning or evening time to avoid heat, This is an architectural marvel
Great historical site
This UNESCO World Heritage Site proved larger and more interesting than expected. The first Muslim place in India, the mosque was built in 1199 by Qutb ud din Aibak, using stonework from the 27 Hindu temples previously on the site. The Hindu carvings of non-Muslim themes can still be seen, though some faces of gods have been obliterated. The ruins are quite extensive, including the mosque and its extensions, a couple of tombs decorated with Islamic calligraphy, a madrassa and the Qutb Minar, the 72.5 m high minaret that gives the site its name. No longer climbable, it is still an impressive site, as is the older and smaller iron pillar (4th century). A later king had started to build a tower which would beat the Qutb one, but the project was aborted, with a wide base giving an indication of what might a been. A well-kept site and an essential visit in Delhi.
Awesome
the Qutub Minar offers a fascinating glimpse into India's medieval past, representing a confluence of cultures and a remarkable feat of engineering and artistry. It's a must-visit for anyone interested in history and architecture, providing a tangible connection to the Delhi Sultanate period.
Awesome
It can be compared to the 62-metre all-brick Minaret of Jam in Afghanistan, of c. 1190, which was constructed a decade or so before the probable start of the Delhi tower. The surfaces of both are elaborately decorated with inscriptions and geometric patterns. The Qutb Minar has a shaft that is fluted with " superb stalactite bracketing under the balconies " at the top of each stage. In general, minarets were slow to be used in India and are often detached from the main mosque where they exist.
Standing tall in the heart of Delhi, Qutub Minar is one of India's most iconic historical landmarks
Built in 1193 by Qutb-ud-din Aibak and later completed by his successors, this 73-meter high tower is a symbol of the beginning of Muslim rule in India. Constructed with red sandstone and marble, the minar is adorned with intricate carvings and verses from the Quran, showcasing the stunning craftsmanship of medieval India.
Amazing experience.... And it enjoyed with my fiancée
Qutb Minar also called Qutub Minar is a minaret located in Mehrauli at New Delhi. The minar is 73 meter tall and shaped like a tapering tower with base diameter of 14.3 meters and 2.7 meters at the peak. It is also an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The construction of Qutub Minar was started by Qutb ud Din Aibak in around 1192 and was completed by his successor and son-in-law Shamsuddin Iltutmish. Further modifications to the monument were made by Firoz Shah Tughlaq and Sher Shah Suri. The Qutub Minar is surrounded by several other historical monuments. It is a very popular picnic spot for domestic as well as foreign tourists.
a fantastic and historical city
It was wonderful and worthy to visit. we took a lot of beautiful pictures. it is recommended to study about its historical background before visiting.
Impressive historic site
Visited this site with a Titan tour group 'Foothills of the Himalayas'. Very busy but it is an extensive site with beautifully laid out and maintained gardens. After an introduction to the historic significance and architecture of the site by our guide we were left to stroll the site for an hour. Plenty to see and appreciate and as well as the impressively huge minaret the site offers many other impressive architectural features or just simply to relax in the sunshine on a bench in the well-kept gardens.
As good as look on Internet
A historical monument and unparalleled architecture which is preserved well. I think it is a very good place to visit in Delhi
Il megli al tramonto
Sito archeologico molto bello. Consiglio di vederlo nel tardo pomeriggio quando le luci del tramonto rendono il sito molto suggestivo e fotogenico.
Worth a visit!
Visited whilst in Delhi, was recommended and it really was worth a visit. Really lovely monument set in a nice park - lovely to walk around. Can easily spend a few hours here.
Amazing
Awe inspiring buildings true history amazing architecture. Well worth the visit. Something everyone with an interest in history, architecture or world religion should see.
Day out
Being a historical site, it provides good insight to youngsters who are interested in knowing about past journeys and facts. There is enough parking and tickets can be bought online which makes the tour easier.
Beautiful with historical significance
Beautiful area with several ruins and nice gardens. The tower is impressive and there are many architectural features that are beautiful. Definitely worth a visit.
Amazing experience
The Qutub Minar not only stands tall as a symbol of India's history but also serves as a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship. The serene surroundings and the intricate details in its structure are a perfect combination of history and art
Qutub Minar: Awe-Inspiring Architecture!
I recently visited Qutub Minar, and I was blown away by its sheer scale and stunning architecture. The intricate carvings and ornate details on the tower's surface are truly breathtaking. Our guide provided valuable insights into the history and significance of the monument, which added depth to our experience. The surrounding complex, with its beautifully manicured lawns and ancient ruins, was also fascinating to explore. A must-visit attraction in Delhi! Be prepared for crowds, but it's well worth the visit.
Well worth a visit
Visited this place with a guide which I'd recommend. Tidy well looked after place. Historically very interesting. Wasn't too busy. Disappointing dirty toilets however.
Fabulous minaret
This massive minaret, tallest in India, is exquisitely carved. It stands the test of time. Interesting is that Hindu temples were on the ground here, but destroyed when Muslim conquerors took Delhi. The stones were then incorporated into the mosque, complete with Hindu carvings.
Historical Site
This is a 'must visit' place for anyone going to Delhi for the first time. Qutub Minar is over 800 years old and the complex has a number of small tombs / graves as well. The intricate carvings on the red sand stone are wonderful and a testimony to the skill of Indian artisans of bygone years. Some pillars resemble Hindu architecture which seems to have been consciously done. It is amazing that a monument has stood the test of times for over 800 years.
Delhi's Towering
So tall! Incredible history, and surprisingly romantic. Perfect for couple photos. We spent hours just wandering around. A must-see in Delhi, even if you only have a little bit of time. Bring water, it is hot! Absolutely stunning.
멋져요!! 세심해요!
Deepanshu was excellent guide. We could have nice experience. Thanks for him, we visited qutup minar, prime minister museum. There are awesome. 무척 즐거운 경험을 가질 수 있었던 하루였어요. 로터스 사원은 사람이 넘 많다고 대신 추천해준 프라임미니스터 박물관에서 여유있게 힐링하는 여행을 하였습니다.
Great visit
A fascinating visit for us during our stay in Delhi. The tower is spectacular, the rest of the grounds equally interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed our early morning visit to beat the crowds and heat later in the day. Our tour guide was very informative and we enjoyed our visit. A definite recommendation.
carvings on the minar are insane
The carvings on the minar are insane. The entire complex is worth exploring, and it's less hectic than Red Fort. Bino actually helped me find a great little café nearby to chill after walking around.
An Architectural Marvel
The towering structure is an architectural marvel, and exploring its history added a special touch to our visit. The well-maintained gardens and peaceful surroundings provided a romantic setting for our day. Each detail, from the intricate carvings to the majestic height, left us in awe.
One of the best place for Sight Seeing in Delhi
If your are in Delhi and have time for sight seeing, don't skip Qutub Minar. Recommend in Evening time as light add more beauty to historical architecture. Entry fees is nominal for Indian. Entry Closes about 6 PM (Please confirm before visiting)
A must visit
This is a fantastic must visit historical site in Delhi. There are many interesting sites to see in the com0lex. My recommendation would be to spend between one and two hours there.
Great place
Great place, earn so much memories. This is my 2nd solo visit. It's so famous place in this city but other places in this city also greate.
Beautiful Qutub Minar
My visit to Qutub Minar was a fantastic journey into history. The towering structure is awe-inspiring, and it's incredible to see how well-preserved it is despite being centuries old. Walking around the complex, I couldn't help but marvel at the intricate carvings and the stunning architectural details of both the Minar and the surrounding monuments. The lush gardens provide a peaceful atmosphere, making it a great spot to relax and take in the historical significance of the site
Great Architecture
This was a very very beautiful historic site to visit in South Delhi complex is over 800 years old and is very well preserved for something of this age. It was very easy to get to with bus, metro and taxi service. There are vendors outside of the premises, overall experience was very good. I highly recommend checking out this place if you are ever in Delhi.
Imperdibile
Qutub Minar great architecture
As we were in Delhi so we wanted to make most of it and visit as much as places as we can, Qutub Minar we heard a lot about it and it was beautiful not maintained properly but it's architecture is fabulous
Should have spent more time
I wish I had more time to spend at this UNESCO site. Great spot to capture a few photos, but there is a lot to take in here. There is a garden you can walk through too.
Perfect Spot for a Stunning Photoshoot!
We visited Qutub Minar for a photoshoot, and it turned out to be an incredible experience! The historical architecture, combined with the lush gardens surrounding the monument, provided a perfect backdrop for capturing timeless photos. The intricate carvings and towering structure added a majestic feel to every shot. Early morning is the best time to visit, as the lighting is perfect, and the area is less crowded. The site is well-maintained, with clear pathways and ample space to explore and shoot. A tip for fellow photographers: Make sure to get the tickets online to save time and check the weather for the best lighting conditions. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a blend of history and beauty for their photoshoots.
great architecture and tour
great place i saw this the first time with booking a day trip from Travel India In Car from TripAdvisor and the experience was amazing such a mesmerizing piece of architecture and I love it so much.
the first Islamic city of Delhi
I visited this place as part of an organised tour with our own guide. It is such a beautiful historical place. It is an interesting site to walk around and admire the architechure in beautiful sandstone. Our guide explained the history of the site being the first Islamic city of Delhi. well worth a visit even if you dont have much time
good for photography, way too many people nowadays
It was really crowded even for a week day. I can comfortably assume now Delhi is a heavily populated city, way too much it can bear in itself and it's just exploding now. anyways, the ticket counter is elsewhere so we had to figure that out. After that we entered into this tourist spot again heavily crowded inside, the weather was on the hotter end and I felt I should have added more spf or a hat to my attire. The photographs turned out to be great. If you want to learn more about the place get a guide or research well, cause I felt the stones were too elaborate and not so comprehensible to cover each spot as well as read everything, ofc I told you guys about the weather... We could witness the lights on the Qutub Minor and rest of the places in the evening and had food from the nearby restaurant where we had to go by walk. Getting a vehicle from here was really inconvenient and stressful. The cafeteria didn't look hygienic so we didn't get anything from there just a packaged drinking water from the shop. It looked really pretty in the evening but again too many people right? I feel Delhi has a rich culture just because of too much crowd we aren't able to appreciate that much.
Tour And travel
Qutub Minar, located in New Delhi, India, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the tallest brick minarets in the world. Standing at 73 meters, it showcases exquisite Indo-Islamic architecture from the 12th century, reflecting rich historical significance.
Really need to see with a guide or with info
This is an amazing sight. It's no wonder it's the no 1 attraction! To my shame, I knew next to nothing about it so having a guide was really the way to get the most out of it. I really valued the background the guide offered, it was an amazing attraction!
Qutub minar is the best monuments you were seen and you enjoy when you go with ur friends
The best monument ever and ever you were seen in ur life. because this is Indian monument so I'm so proud of you to be indian and exploring best things in Delhi which were the capital of India
Qutub Minar a UNESCO Site
Qutub Minar is a UNESCO World Heritage site in Delhi, showcasing Indo-Islamic architecture. Built in the 12th century, it stands as a remarkable historical monument. A notable feature of the complex is the Iron Pillar, inscribed in Sanskrit in the Brahmi script from the fourth century A. D. The inscription indicates that the pillar was erected as a Vishnudhvaja (standard of god Vishnu) on the hill known as Vishnupada in memory of a mighty king named Chandra.
Indian History
Just amazing place, we are spend full one day with out boring. Enjoy with Indian old history. Please spend here minimum 3 hours.

Qutub
This is my first time in Delhi and I was very happy to visit this peace of architecture and history. Never imagined that Delhi has so much to offer. A must visit place in Delhi
A must visit place
I highly recommended to visit this place. A UNESCO world heritage site. It's good to have a guide to understand the complete history associated with this marvelous place
Don't miss it
Great historical monument. Recommend getting a guide because there aren't many information spots around to explain all of the ruins. People at the gate offer guide for 250-400 INR if you go that route.
Imperdible en Delhi
Punto obligado en Delhi. Preferentemente con un guía local y después de visitarlo pasar a la zona del mercado a conocer la verdadera India, su gente, comercio, comida, olores y su dinámica de vida.
Nice and grand building. Check the intricate stonework
Great place to visit and justify its UNESCO status ! We lived the tower and the intricate Hindu carvings into the wall and pillars of the complex that were carved out in the 4-8 century. Great place to come around sunrise as you have the whole place to yourself to admire its beauty. Good for a 30 minute visit..
No te lo pierdas!
Increíble! Es un must en tu paso por Delhi. La recomendación es que llegues por tarde 8am, para que no te agarre el calor en verano y tengas oportunidad de tomarte tus fotos antes que nadie
Ancient victory tower
Awesome architecture. Best to have a good guide who can explain the history of Qutub Minar, and the various parts of the remnants and the ancient craftsmanship.
Visit to Qutub Minar
I went to Qutub Minar during a visit to Delhi, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a 73-metre tall tapering tower of five storeys, the tower is par of a complex of buildings. This is tallest brick minaret in the world, and is of great historical significance. The site is extensive and well worth a visit, recommended.
Tallest Minar - JaitKham Giroudpuri (Chhattisgarh)
At present the tallest Minar in India is in chhattisgarh named as Jaitkhma held Giroudpuri 140 Km far from the Capital city Raipur. Qutubminar is having the height of 72 meters but the height of Jaitkham is 77 Meters
Impressive
The Minaret which stands 72 meters high can be seen from far. It used to be open to the public but not any longer. It is still worth a visit.
Qutub Minar and much more..
Qutub Complex was the first site I have visited in Delhi and the most interesting one out of all the attractions that I have seen so far there. The 72.5 meters high Qutub Minar, the highest stone tower in India, clearly dominates the complex, but there is much more to see... The 12th century minaret, which survived many earthquakes and lightning bolts over the course of eight centuries, proudly towers over Delhi defying its old age. The intricate inscriptions carved in red stone tell the whole story of Qutub Minar and adjoining monuments. Right next to Qutub Minar, in the courtyard of Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, you can see the Iron Pillar, the Hindu monument which dates back to the 4th century AD. Qutub complex is a fine example of Islamic architecture, but there are still some remaining traces of ruined Hindy temples on the site. One of the most impressive structures are the rich ornaments of the columns of the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque and elaborate carvings of Iltutmish's Tomb. You can also see the remains of Alauddin's madrasa and enjoy the most impressive views of the Qutbuddin's screen which combines both Indian and Islamic architectural styles. One of the memorable moments was chatting with schoolchildren who were very excited to pose for a photo. It was fascinating to see the future of India in this very old complex... the kids were enjoying every minute of their visit and so did I... Qutub Complex is an amazing place to visit, both historically and architecturally... certainly not to be missed, if you are in Delhi.
Exceptional detail at a unique place in Delhi
Well worth a visit is the Qutub Minar, having beautiful and expansive lawns, striking architecture and numerous monuments. We left it for one our later days but were glad we managed to go there.
tallest heritage
it is one of the tallest heritage structures of delhi and good place to hangout with family and friends
Incredible Place must vist in Delhi
It was surprised me the old hestorical buildings on that area and was admired me the strong and huge of the structures for all building specily the Minar and Castel and greet Wall as well. Also the green and the soft buitful grass and trees all around of the area. Iam strongly recommended to vist ths place in Delhi. Reghards TAHA ANSARI
駅からは遠い
同名の駅がありますが、駅前には案内板もなく、リキシャーを使わなければなりませんでした。ミナレットとしては世界で最も高いものらしく、なんとなく東京スカイツリーに通じるデザインのような気がします。
Heritage Walk
Qutub minar complex encompasses many monuments besides the Qutub Minar. It is located at walking distance from 'Qutub Minar metro station'. One can also hire an auto for Rs40 to reach there. Entry ticket is Rs10 for Indians and $25 for foreigners.
Beautiful at dusk
The mehruli park is fascinating and quite large but we arrived late afternoon and only spent about 90 minutes before the park closed. We saw the Qutab minar along with the arch and some other ancient buildings. The light in this space at dusk as the sun was setting was so special. I wish we had at least another 60-90 minutes than we had to explore further but it was so beautiful at dusk.
Qutub Minar
Qutub Minar is really a place you must visit in Delhi. This powerful height and red minaret is located in place with so much history. Just to stand there and inhale this feels unreal. When you go there, look especially at the Arabic words written both at Qutub Minar and the other buildings there. And all this is made of the special red stone from Rajasthan. What is also impressive and so good for tourist but also Indian is that India is very careful that all can read about the history around Qutub Minar and the monuments. Al history is written down in information plates in both English and Hindi. The garden here is like all gardens at places you visit in Delhi, so well planned and extremely beautiful.
Bhul Bhulaiya (Maze), Qutab Minar, New Delhi
Have you ever visited Qutab Minar?, if yes have you visited the bhul bhulaiya (Maze) there? This Maze is was built in Qutab minar in order to escape from any kind of sudden attack, only who developed the maze and the emperor was known to this maze and no one else can escape from this maze. It is a must visit. Go enjoy the tour.
Very interesting with explanations from a guide
I can't imagine seeing this without a guide. I would have totally missed the interesting details. I love hearing about the history of architecture and crumbling ruins. Great photos of the long columned galleries. Also walk to the tomb in the back with the fantastic Islamic script in the pink sandstone. Photograph the resident green parrots with the pink / red sandstone for an eye-catching image! The contrast of the minaret ruins, with the well -preserved minaret tower, and the accompanying stories, make for an interesting visit.
Alai Darwaza - Nice gateway attraction at Qutb Complex
When visiting Qutb Minar, there are several other interesting attractions that you can see within the Qutb Complex, including the Alai Darwaza - the main gateway into the complex built between 1296 and 1316AD, making it one of the very oldest remaining ancient gateways to remain standing in Delhi. Alai Darwaza is a domed gateway, providing entrance into the southern side of the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, which is now in ruins. The gateway building was constructed with red sandstone, inlaid with white marble and elaborately decorated with carving and inscriptions. The building is noted for the splendid use of symmetry in its design. Interestingly, it seems Alai Darwaza was the first of four large gates that Alla-Ud-Din Khilji intended to make for the city. Unfortunately, he died after its construction and before beginning work on the other three gates. Future rulers must not have shared his vision for the city as the remaining three gateways were never built, leaving Alai Darwaza on its own. Overall, Alai Darwaza is a nice building, worthy of spending some time looking around. Its one of several interesting attractions at the Qutb Minar Complex along with the mosque, Imam Zamin's Tomb, the minaret - Alai Minar and the fascinating Qutb Minar structure.
Well maintained History of India
Its good place to visit as its a combination many empires who ruled India over hundred of years. you will see a combination of Mughal Dynasty as well as Indian Maharaja's who built sculptures. Its also close to Saket market. You can reach there by Metro also directly. its open from sunrise to sunset. Its very clean as its under Archeological survery of India. Ticket price for foreigners is around 250 Rupees and for Indians its around 20 Rupees.
Interesting site
The tower is absolutely beautiful with the Arabic carvings. The site contains more interesting buildings than I originally thought. Not terribly crowded either.
A walk through History
Qutub Minar is world heritage place to visit in Delhi and near to Qutub Delhi Metro... This is must visit if you come to Delhi... intricate carvings and nearby Iron Pillar standing in and around Qutab complex is beautiful.. it is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.. beautiful, peaceful and historical fort.
Its all about the tower
The Qutab Minar is 250 rupees. The audio guide is around 50 rupees more and allows you to hear the history and go at your own pace. The large beehive shaped tomb is on the East side near the entrance. Bathrooms are available in this area. The northeast area has ruins and a nicely decorated open tomb area. The Northern area has many ruins and a good open area for tower pictures. In some instances the tower has a leaning effect. The Southwest corner has a large grassy area for lounging and picture taking. The main mosques are in this section. The famous pictures thru the arch and wall are taken in this area. Fewer people get in the way of your pictures from this spot. This is a nice place to spend 90 minutes or so walking and taking pictures. Expect a fairly large crowd.
Qutab - Wonderful & Fantastic - a must see
This fantastic piece of architecture attracts thousands of visitors everyday and is absolutely worth visiting. Still intact after 800 years, the site is very well maintained for visitors and enthusiasts. I've visited twice - once in 2007 & this year. No significant change in 5 years, except this time I find little more crowd. The fee was also same Rs. 10, for foreigners its Rs. 250 (approx. $5). This minar is 73 mtr old and built more than 800 years ago by Delhi's first Muslim dynasty. Since, I knew a lot of history related to Qutab Minar, I just went on seeing it without any guide. If you are not aware about its history, a certified guide will be of lot help or your trip guide can explain as well. Morning or evening before sunset are good time as you can take nice pics. This is open on all 7 days of week for visitors. Earlier it was allowed to go inside and climb till certain portion of the Minar, but now its not allowed. Still Photography & videography with small cameras allowed, professional photography is chargeable.
Fabulous sunce 1192
If you love pointy things and stone carving in a beautiful quiet park, head to south Delhi. You won't regret it.
Most visited things in Delhi

Qutub Minar
Number of times I visited Qutub Minar. When ever any relative visited delhi I take them to all famous places of Delhi and Qutub Minar is one of them, It's a must visit place for the tourists.
Qutub Minar or Dhruv Stambh
History is my passion. So, this was my second trip to Qutub MInar after reading so many reviews that it was actually some hindu temple and I was really amazed to see some walls. Almost every pillar near Iron Pillar have human figurine support structure. Similar pillars I have seen in Khajuraho, Konark, Thanjavur hindu temples Beside that it is lovely place for sunbath in winter months. Go and check yourself the hidden history of India from the pillars of Dhruv Stambh.
Book ticket online and skip queues
Before visiting Qutub Minar, one should book tickets online to skip from queue. The iron pillar is also worth-seeing
The emblem of Delhi
The best attraction on the mehrauli archaeological park. don't expect getting on the top, no one is allowed to get on top of the Minar nowadays. the other attractions here is the iron pillar. People say the person who can embrace this pillar from the back is a very lucky person and his wishes will come true. the park is really in a very large area, and you'll find it difficult to check out every corner of the place.
An architectural beauty and marvel of thirteenth century
A must see place when you are in Delhi. This was the first Islamic structure built by the King of Slave Dynasty. Tourists love and enjoy areas around and excellent food at restaurant in the vicinity. Governor Amolak Rattan Kohli
My Frist Visit at The Qutub Minar
It's really a amazing and beautiful place to visit. I went with my friend had lots of fun their. I would love to visit here again with my family.
Must Visit Place.
Qutub Minar surrounded by several other ancient and medieval structures and ruins, collectively known as Qutub complex. truly a must visit place... Easiest way to reach there would be by metro station near to it... Taxi's are also a good option..
Remarkable Piece of Engineering
The Iron Pillar standing about 24 feet above ground is a metallurgical marvel for it was built about 2000 years back. Standing open to the elements of nature, it has not rusted till date. It bears an inscription in Sanskrit in the Brahmi Script. It is situated within the Qutub Complex next to the Qutub Minar.
Tourist attractions near Qutub Minar
Qutub Minar has some adjoining structures that lend shine of some of its fame. The Qutub complex houses the iron wonder nearby. The Iron Pillar is one of the metallurgical interests of the world. It is a thing to study as well as famous tourist destination. Traditionally people believe that if anyone standing in front of pillar with his back towards the column can encircle it with their arms, all his wishes will be fulfilled. Government has built a fence around it for safety. An earthquake damaged top two floors of the minar during the rule of Firoz Shah; but was repaired by Firoz Shah himself. He built marble pavilions here. In the year 1505, earthquake again damaged it and was repaired by Sikandar Lodi. Once again the minar faced earthquake in the year 1794, then Major Smith refurbished the affected parts of the minar and replaced Firoz Shah's pavilion with his own pavilion. This pavilion was again removed in the year 1848 by Lord Hardinge. Now it can be seen lying between the Dak Bungalow and the Minar in the garden
Qutub Minar
This place is very close to me because i have been to qutub minar twice one when i was 10 years old, my first picnic trip goes to qutub minar n i learn so much about it. This monument in India is one of the highest minar in India. Qutab Minar is considered as the earliest Islamic monument in India and the minar is decorated with the Arabic inscription. Qutab Minar is a soaring, 73 m-high tower of victory and this tower has five distinct storeys, each marked by a projecting balcony and tapers from a 15 m diameter at the base to just 2.5 m at the top. The first three storeys are made of red sandstone; the fourth and fifth storeys are of marble and sandstone. At the foot of the tower is the Quwwat-ul-Islam Mosque, the first mosque to be built in India. Qutab Minar is a must-visit for those who love to read about history.
Heart Stopper
I visited India for the 1st time in 2005 and fell truly in love with the country and its people. Whilst in Delhi (for only 1day) we visited Red Fort, India Gate, Kinari Bazaar, Jama Masjid and the most wonderful and mystical Qutb Minar - I wanted to stay here forever it was fabulous. This year I am returning and bringing two friends and can't wait to show them my India. One day I will return in solitude to this wonderful monument.
See the sky
The Minar itself and then the surroundings, worth watching. Also look for the garden behind. Lovely place to roam.
Beautiful Minar.
Qutb Minar is the most beautiful monuments I have seen ever. Magnificent architecture and location, especially if you're there during the sunset! The architecture of the Qutab is amazing. The grounds are very pleasant and make it cool for a nice stroll with friends. There are lots of photo moments so make sure you have your camera with you. It is a peaceful green place. It made your mind and body feel calm and rejuvenate you.
The Iron Pillar
Qutab Minar in Southern Delhi possess the tallest brick minaret in the world. Though the minaret is the central point, many other interesting buildings and ruins are also on the site. This is one of the most interesting sites in Delhi. This place is a complex of Muslim buildings which is built according to an writing from the ruins of Hindu temples. It's a beautiful site which is built out of a delicate, faintly reddish stone. The complex consists of various buildings set among calm gardens.
The Indian Tower and flying Man
This place is one of the must visit in Delhi, the tower build around 12 century by Qutab Din Aibek is worth your time energy and money, there is this video in you tube which shows a man flying around qutab minar www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRdf5OErWFc
Historical experience
Took my son to see the Qutub Minar and as a family had a good trip and experience visiting this historically important monument.
Worth a visit.
Enough of interest to make the visit worthwhile, after marvelling at the huge old tower, and fighting off all the touts, make sure you also go into the excellent old mosque bext door, where of course you'll also have to be firm with all the sellers and touts. Once you show a flicker of interest your day is dead!
A marvel of ancient architecture
It is a UNESCO world heritage site - a marvel of ancient architecture. It is 73 m tall and built in 1193 AD. The compound also houses an ancient iron pillar, which was made much before steel existed in this world. It is a symbol of ancient Indian science as it does not rust as iron normally does. A must see if you are in Delhi.
Wiki says: Tallest brick minarety in the world
Very tall, one can not see whole when standing near. The minar is included as UNESCO World Heritage Site
لابد من زيارة هذا المعلم الرائع

About qutub
This place is one of the bestest historical sites in delhi. Started during the age of Qutub us din aibak and completed by his son in law Iltutmish. You can easily reach here via metro, get down at qutub minar station.
History at its Best!!!
It is located a bit outside of the crowded city. A beautiful place to see and experience history. An ancient Iron Pillar which hasn't rusted even after withstanding such extreme weather conditions. A half built Minar which was supposed to be twice the height of the Qutub is a sight in itself. Dont forget to wrap your arms backward around the Iron Pillar. It is believed to bring good luck.
Historical Place
Beautiful. Now easier to reach here due to metro. Good place. Must to visit. If you come to Delhi. Facilities are getting better.
Iconic landmark
A trip to the iconic Qutab Minar is a 'must do' for tourist, visitors and natives alike. I visited Qutab Minar years ago while living in the City and took the family there during a recent visit. Qutab Minar is crowded with tourists, as expected. Most walk around the Tower taking pictures / selfies.
Historical Significance
This monument is one of a kind, its not over the top but is definitely worth a visit. Be sure to catch it.
A Memorial of Excellent Architecture
it is one of the finest architecture given to India by the history. I still wonder how the people managed to build something so huge thousands of years ago
Amazing thoughts
To see the tall pillar it takes you back in years to think how the architecture during those times were very advanced without technology of modern times. the thinking behind the monument must have quiet intense as the feelings are expressed in the monuments.
Amazing Indian Monument !!!
Qutub Minar is an Amazing Indian Monument !!! interesting engineering or architecture... Feel lucky to see this kind of Amazing Indian Monuments in this 21st century.
Sehenswert
Die Geschichte (Audioguide oder Führer) ist sehr interessant. Sicher ein, must see " in Delhi, gut bei Nachmittags- / Abendsonne (Fotos). Insbesonders die Säulen der Bauwerke herum als Potpourri älterer Gebäude, neu zusammengesetzt
Reaching out to the sky
Have been visiting New Delhi for last 4 decades.. but somehow never made it to Qutab Minar.. A towering structure standing tall for centuries.. desreve UNESCO World Heritage tag. Visited on a weekday.. nonetheless crowds flowing from all directions.. by bus, cars, cabs and metro. It was like some festival.. jatra. The huge complex.. very well maintained.. crowd engaged in capturing the monument is cameras.. mobiles... all shapes & sizes.. Megapixels did not deter them from posing in front of the tower. Young, old and not-so-young or not-so-old all either posing or clicking.. very lively atmosphere... I realised what I missed in all these years... Yes but then there were no mobile cameras.. only photographers.. with B & W Films, Instant Cameras... Camera-on-Hire kiosks... What has mobiles done now. None stops to gaze and study the piece of architecture.. just in hurry to click. click and depart.
Its at Qutab Minar
Iron Pillar is located at Qutab Minar. Its a very old pillar. it is 7 m (23 ft) column in the Qutb complex. The pillar carries a number of inscriptions and graffiti of different dates which have not been studied systematically despite the pillar's prominent location and easy access.
It was fun
We really enjoyed it. We swapped the Qutub Minar for the Humiyun Tomb. We appreciated this flexibility. Would thoroughly recommend the tomb too. The Lotus Temple was beautiful and well worth the visit. The Dilli Haat was a lovely market - not as pressured as a lot of other markets - relaxing.
" Leaning Tower of Delhi "
This place was amazing! So much history and ruins. Beautiful! My daughter couldn't stop taking pictures. I think we have over 5oo just from this place.
Wonderful Ambiance
This place took my breathe away, its one of the things ive seen in my life, the red blocks to forts, to people, to positive energy, to the good and nice Indian ambiance, this place is NOT to be missed
A Nice picnic alongwith historical values
Qutab Minar is one of the good experience we had alongwith family. The Minar is closed and one cannot go on top. You can go to Ashok stambh, most of the people you would find would try to put their arms round the stambh. This is one of the famous Iron stambh, which is there for centuries without rust..
One of the oldest gates in Delhi
Alai Darwaza is the main southern entrance gate of the Quwwa-ul-Islam Mosque. It was built in the 13th century. The Alai Darwaza is located in the Qutub Complex of Delhi. The architecture is built with red sandstone, inlaid with white marble decorations and carvings. There are verses from the Quran featured as well. This size of the Alai Darwaza is very impressive. With a height of a little over fourteen meters. The gate is about seventeen meters long and ten meters long from the inside. It is very historic, the work of the Turkish artisans is remarkable.
worth a visit with a guide
I enjoyed walking around here, hearing about the history of the muslim conquest and destruction of Hindu temples to build Qutab Minar. The tower is certainly impressive. But it is quite a long way out....
Great piece of Architecture
In a city awash with ancient ruins, the Qutab Minar complex is something special. It is one of the key attraction in Delhi but " under rated " for some starnge reason. To reach the complex, take the Delhi metro to Qutab Minar station, then take an autorickshaw for the 1km to the ruins. The complex is studded with ruined tombs and monuments. Ala-ud-din's sprawling madrasa (Islamic school) and tomb stand in ruins at the rear of the complex, while Altamish is entombed in a magnificent sandstone and marble mausoleum almost completely covered in Islamic calligraphy. Try to visit in the morning before the crowds arrive.
Dargah of khwaja Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar kaki
One can go (almost walkable distance) behind the Qutb Minar complex to the Dargah of Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar kaki- Famous sufi saint. In fact, the Qutb has been named after the Famous saint of the 13th century
Excellent Architecture
What a wonderful place. I have visited Qutub Minar every time I come to Delhi but I love the beautiful work of Mughal architecture. The ruins of the building and the surrounding area are very well maintained. It is a beautiful historical site one could easily spend their time relaxing in the gardens.
Amazing Visit
The huge minaret is the centrepiece of this site but the whole area is impressive. There is an uncompleted minaret that was to be even bigger than the current one but was never finished. There is also an iron pillar from the 4th century that has never rusted! One of the most popular sites to visit in Delhi, but the better for it when the locals, who appreciate their own culture, come to visit. One thing to be aware of is the slight of hand when the change is given out at the " Foreigners " kiosk. Check your change and if it is wrong hand it back and the correct change mysteriously appears!
history and cleanliness-indian back to its roots!
Indians were generally known to be extremely clean people. though our cities don't boast about cleanliness anymore, i think we re slowly improving and delhi is leading the pack. all the heritage structures are exceptionaly neat nowadays, a dn the minar is no different. and well maintained gardens and clean bathrooms add up to the flair. beautiful place to go, with the astounding minar, a proud monument of indian history. one time fee for all the heritage struvtures applicable.
ACCESSIBLE FOR PEOPLE ON WHEELCHAIRS
I have not been to Qutub Minar in recent times, but when I did, I was glad I could take my brother who is on a wheelchair to see the place. This place is accessible on wheelchair - so please go ahead and explore :)
qutab minar the mughal emperor had built
qutab minar the mughal emperor had built during the mughal times.. where they can see the city of Delhi during those days.. And the park was used by the Mughal kings and queens for romantic moments..
Very good Stone Structure
This is a fantastic example of stone structure built as a Minaret. The Minaret is having 5 levels and each level has been built with unique characteristics. The curvature and the angles in which this minaret built shows the ancient Indian Building Architecture. Another wonder that is present in this place is the famous Iron Pillar. Based on inscriptions, the wrought iron pillar was manufactured many centuries before Qutab Minor is built still that was fantastic piece of metallurgical sceince in those time. The place is maintained well so it is a nice place to visit with family. However it I really felt too hot to handle the sun. So If you plan to visit places around Delhi in summer plan well to manage the heat. We travelled thorugh Taxi but there many transport options available near by. Hop On Hop Off bus service as well available for this site. It is a must place to visit in Delhi.
