Clean, comfortable, and friendly
My father stayed a night in this hotel a week or so ago, and asked me to write a review. He found the experience very pleasant, the staff and management engaging and professional. Overall, it was clean, comfortable and friendly.
Terrible
Booked a room and pre paid for it, drove 12 hours to get there, and when I showed up to check in I was told that there were no rooms available and to go somewhere else. Definitely will never book another room here!
Rigger
The people at the front desk was friendly, the rooms clean, the room is so outdated, could use some tlc, great rate. Nice big parking lot for our company's Solitude services large high rail crane trucks,
Small Town Charm
Stayed here just over a week ago, must say we were impressed with the service when we arrived after a long drive. We didn't know the hotel didn't have an elevator as my father has troubles with stairs, the General Manager Daniel French was very accommodating and was able to put us on the first floor which was very nice and very pleasant to deal with! The room had everything we needed including fridge and stove, beds were nice and comfortable and the shower was the best I had the entire trip (note we stayed in 4 different hotels) the attached restaurant was very nice as well. Would stay here again!
Good night's sleep
Heading home from a visit to family in British Columbia, had driven 10 hours and was ready to rest. Had my 2 small dogs and alot of " pet friendly " hotels still look like they would rather you didn't bring them in, the hosts at this hotel went out of their way to be friendly with them, and that alone made me relaxed.
Happy / Good service
Happy we found This Sandman Hotel. Checked in around 9pm, & still received easy, & simple check in service. Good advice about the towns hours of operation, & where to eat. Asked for a few extras, & the night gentleman provided whatever we needed! +10. Happy.
Sandman
We arrived around 9pm and the staff at the front desk were there to greet us as soon as we walked in the door. The staff were more than accommodating! The room was a good size and the beds were super comfortable. We will definitely be returning. Thanks for the great service and comfortable sleep!
What a joke
The front desk girl Melody was busy doing laundry but there was a note at front desk saying where she would be if someone needed something. She was working hard, had a great attitude was nice and helpful. I asked her if I could speak to management and it took the guy 10mins to come out and he looked like he crawled out of bed or something. Then he was rude to me and didnt offer any help to my concern. The place needs to be updated definitely as its gross. My room was clean, beds were comfy and great customer service from Melody. That's it cant say I'll be back.
great accommodation, friendly service
all you need and want for a reasonable rate. very accommodating. Very quiet location, very clean, and friendly. would not hesitate to recommend to any one. they went out of their way to get a room ready for s us.

We usually stay here if we're overnighting enroute further West. I called the hotel tonight to get a room for Louis (& Tator, his sidekick) but Raye told me they were booked up. Well, don't you know that she & her associates went to clean a just vacated room so Louis & Tator had a bed for the night! Talk about service! Thank you, Raye! Kudos to you!!
Gross hotel, do NOT STAY HERE
Run down, hallways stink, and look dirty, reception is a sty, ice machine broken, got 4 ice cubes from front desk, only 2 crappy tv channels, stack of old tires..... view out the window, windows dirty, tiniest bathroom I ever saw.... TERRIBLE, GROSS, DEPRESSING!!
Sleep in your Car
The staff are friendly and parking is free, that's pretty much it for the positive part of the review for this hotel. The property has a dirty feel. I could smell the dominant scent of smoke as soon as I walked up the stairs to head to my room. The rooms are small and the carpets are dirty and long over due for replacement. I booked a room that said it had a Queen bed and an air conditioner. The bed was a double at best, definitely not a queen. The room did not have an air conditioner as advertised. It just had a pedestal fan. It was over 30 degrees outside the day we checked in. The fan didn't help keep us cool at all, we almost baked to death. I actually moved on to the floor around 03:00am to try salvage a few hours of sleep in an otherwise long, uncomfortable, hot sweaty sleepless night. They have an onsite restaurant. Convenient, but nothing special. We could hear the cook whining when some other travelers walked in within 15 minutes of official closing time. My wife asked for a glass of ice to take to the room so she could have a cold glass of ginger ale before settling in. The server said she had to check to see if there was any ice left. Apparently the ice machine has been broken for a very long time. The server makes ice at her personal residence and brings in to work to serve to customers. Good for her for stepping up to the plate when management fails, but I can't imagine a employee making ice at home and brining it to work is compliant with food service or provincial health codes. There isn't a lot to choose from in this little town when it comes to accommodations. I'll sleep in my car before ever booking at the Sandman again.
Stayed here lots
Clean updated rooms busy but quite. Bonus of having a restaurant on site that serves very good food that is not over priced. Staff are pleasant and And are happy to help you if they can. I believe the winter months are busy, area offers very good snow mobility so I would phone for reservations.
Family time
We had good service. was in 1 room then gave us another with fridge... Service was great.. ask for extra coffee, etc and was left in room... Restaurant was great... Food was alright... Rooms were clean... The bedding was awesome... got good nights sleep.. quiet...
Avoid at all costs!!
Coming at the end of a week-long road trip, and days of rain, we were not terribly fussy about we stayed that night. We should have been. For starters, the bed spreads on both queen beds were dirty. I mean really, obviously dirty. Human waste dirty. Not only did none of the staff, from the man at the front desk to the staffer who moved us, was anyone apologetic for the inconvenience. We ended up in a room threat still had the chipped, rusted sink from the 70's. Complete with porn-stache hair trimmings all over the sink. The next morning at 9am, I was in the shower, and my daughter was in bed, and a man opened the door with a key, and said, " hello...? ". Without knocking!!!! Why didn't we have the night lock locked you ask? Because it was broken!! But hey, it's McBride... who needs a night lock? 😳. Lastly, I dropped something behind the mattress, under the headboard, so I had to pull out the end table to retrieve the item. And there I found an old pill bottle, a desiccated piece of pepperoni, and a nice pile of bug casings. At the front desk, I informed them about the table " snacks ", and asked why someone was trying to come into our room. I finally got a half-hearted apology, only when I got angry. So avoid this dump at all costs, unless you're a sledder in the area in the winter, and you are desperate. Really desperate. AND CHECK YOUR BEDDING THOROUGHLY!!!
Ok for a stopover
This is one of sandmans older motels it needs an update. It has no a. c. only fans in the rooms. It is ok for a stopover has a restaurant for a early breakfast. There is limited accommodations on the prince george hiway. Go downtown if you are in town early there are a couple of restaurants to check out.
Comfortable beds
We recently stopped in with our grandson and dog. This was a last minute decision due to the rain and no desire to camp. The hotel was accommodating of our needs and the beds were very comfortable. I looked ta the mattresses and they seemed new. On the down side this is a tired looking hotel that needs some TLC, however I would not hesitate to stay again. Parking and wifi is free.
Mountain Surprise
I came across this hotel in McBride, a tiny town of a few houses and 2 gas stations between the Canadian Rockies and the Cariboo Mountains. The Sandman was extremely clean, great bed and linens, reminiscent of top hotels, and the staff was quite friendly. The on-site restaurant was convenient, very busy and had great selections. Superb water pressure, provided an excellent hot shower. The room and restaurant had fast complimentary WiFi. Very affordable at Can$99.00 plus tax.
Sandman Hotel, McBride
This Sandman Hotel is quite old and worn out. The furniture is reasonably comfortable. It sure would be nice if they vacuumed the floors when you were gone to work especially when it's muddy in the parking lot. They only get 6 or 7 tv channels so there's not much to watch when you in your room.
Run Down and Needs an Update
I would suggest a different place. Rooms have that old hotel smell. The T. V. reception is terrible and impossible to watch. The walls in the bathroom need some serious paint as do most other parts of this place. Do yourself a favour and try some place else.
Friendly service, heavy food
Not much choice in restaurants in Mcbride so we ended up at the sandman. The pizzas were huge and very doughy... not our preferred type of pizza. The burgers were greasy. So hardly refined cooking, but it fills you up and th service was good.
Nice place
Yep you will enjoy the comfort of the room. Well appointed.. bathroom area is very small, but hey the plumbing all works!!!! Beds are super comfortable, quiet property... TV selection is verrrry limited... but with the views who needs TV. WiFI verrrry good.
just a stop on the way by
well it is very out dated the tv sucked 3 fuzzy channels room well out dated. but the beds are awesome and the shower was great. it is to bad the rest of the room is so bad. but sandy and vic the managers are awesome for what they have to deal with. the restaurant is old and ugly but the staff rocks and the food is great I would stop there just to eat lol.
Another great stay at the Sandman McBride
After a long day on the road, our recent overnight at the Sandman McBride was a welcome respite for a couple of weary travellers. Our room was fresh and ready on arrival, and the beds and bed linens as comfy and inviting as they first appeared to be. The bathroom, although somewhat cramped, was immaculately clean, and wi-fi fast and responsive. We awoke refreshed the following morning, and breakfast in the attached restaurant provided a great start to another day.
Worst Room In... Ever
Stayed in room 110 for 1 night, was probably single worst room I've ever been in. Unpleasant smell from sink, bathroom, and in general. Furniture I would expect to see in a swap shop or a dirty basement. Room damage was evident. Office chair was broken and all but unusable, Internet sputtered and quit leading to lengthy telephone call to arrange further travel details. There were spider webs on walls and ceiling, and spills down walls. No fridge, no window to adjust, just a massive fan to pull air in from outside. Two doors connected to the room with key locks on my side, left me feeling less than private in the room. I've stayed in several sandman signature hotels around the province, although this is not their signature line, it certainly damaged my ability to trust the sandman name again. Was staying in Best Western Valemount for previous three nights. Completely opposite experience of that exceptional stay. I've traveled to Montreal and back and would be hard pressed to think of a more unpleasant night.
Fun in northern BC
Just came back from a weekend up in the McBride area. The friendly people at this Sandman really made my trip. Keep up the great work! Service was exceptional. They really made my trip. I loved being back in BC. It's been too long. I will be back again soon!
friendly little town
I was traveling through and just stayed the one night. there rooms where great very clean, the staff at the hotel and restaurant was excellent. I travel quite a bit for work and this is a good stop over point so I'll be back on my next run through
Beware
The Room that we stayed in REAKED like cigarette smoke, even though it was " non-smoking ". The bathroom was absolutely filthy, including hair all over the tub and shower wall. It did not have air conditioning and was boiling hot all night, the room was very average and out of date, and we were awoken by yelling outside our window @ 3am. I would never stay here again nor recommend it to anyone thinking about it.
Grappig jaren 70 hotel met aangrenzend restaurant
In een nietszeggend gehucht staat een jaren 70 hotel. Vriendelijke ontvangst. Gigantische grote kamers. Mini badkamer. Zelfs een jaren 70 keuken en fornuis. Nieuwe waterkoker en broodrooster. Eenvoudige keukeninventaris aanwezig. Het restaurant is niets bijzonders. Het eten smaakt nergens naar. Je kunt beter zelf gaan koken.
Average
Stayed here for one night. The room was clean but very small. The bed was comfy. The shower head had so much pressure it felt like needles piercing the skin. NO Air conditioning and VERY hot! The windows open but in order to get any type of air flow you have to open the door. We were on the ground floor and it looked to us as though the room had been broken in to via the screen before. All of the rooms aroung us were non smoking but everyone clearly smoked in them. VERY noisy. Despite all of this, it wasn't a bad place to stay but I'd probably only stay there in the winter when it's not hot outside.
Good night's stay
Stayed here for a night en-route to Jasper. We liked this place. Staff were friendly and helpful, room was a decent size and clean. The on site-restaurant had a nice atmosphere, looked like the place the locals eat and did some well priced hearty food - both in the evening and for breakfast. Decor was a bit dated and apart from WIFI not many other hotel facilities but OK for a one-night stay. Not an awful lot to do in McBride, but would definitely recommend the Kinney Lake trail at Mount Robson the next morning - if you're with young family no problem with a decent buggy / stroller.
Good place to stay to break up a long road trip
This hotel is old and would need some renos. Rooms are small too, but comfy enough and quite adequate for a one-night stay. The price was reasonable too. There is a restaurant on-site which is handy but you could walk to two other restaurants.
Good enough
Good enough for a night's stay. Late check in and early check out, staff at both occasions seemed troubled and pre-occupied with other stuff of higher priority (like finishing work perhaps). Still, a good place with normally great service.
Average hotel
Well, reasonable hotel. Stayed there for one night. Clean and nice chamber. The hotel is in a good location and conveniently located for the town (village). Nothing particular to take place in McBride.
A suitable place to stay when travelling through McBride
We stayed at this motel en-route to Jasper and Banff. The rooms were clean and neat and the motel is located along the main road in McBride. Unfortunately there was no laundry available at this motel, though there is one located a short walking distance away (this shuts at 5.00pm so beware). There is no breakfast at this motel. There is a restaruant attached and you are able to grab a meal here.
