This place is a dump

It's dirty. Things everywhere are broken, or missing. The staff live in the place and do not care about their customers at all. Everything is old and outdated. The rooms are not cleaned very well, if at all. Save your money and go else where.

Needs updates

Stayed here for 3 nights. The rooms are suites with a separate bedroom from a living area. Rooms need some serious updates as the age is showing. The towels used are small and well worn. The bed is comfortable and they do have duvets. The continental breakfast consists of cereal and toast. They do not provide coffee all day in breakfast area. The first floor rooms do have patio doors which they don't want used in the winter months. Don't know if I would stay here again. There are better.

Mixed Feeling About Quality, But Liked The Staff and Service

So sometimes it's difficult to write a review, because the facility is in dire need of upkeep and faces other 'social' or location challenges, - but the staff, and their desire to provide you with excellent customer service, is way above average, so in a case like this, what do you do? Let me start by saying that we will definitely use the best value in here at Thompson on our future trips to Churchill. That's the truth. The rooms were definitely among the best value in Thompson, but the conditions of the room left some things to be desired - they made every effort to keep the rooms clean, but the facility is definitely worn. Security on first floor properties, are also a bit of a concern, but that is more about the town, then about the maintenance of the hotel. The sliding glass doors point out towards the street - and unfortunately, here, the street generally has vagrants wandering about. Regret having to say that we saw at least one drunk being hauled away by four RCMP Mounties from inside the hotel property, while we were there. But the staff was exception; friendly and willing to do whatever they could to help! They even worked with us to provide parking options for our car, when we left it there for a 7-day trip North by train. Remember, the property is clean, but old. But all things considered in Thompson Manitoba, this is the nature of the region here. We would definitely use the property again, despite its shortfalls.

Filthy

There is no reason to stay at this hotel at all. It is dirty, unsafe, the whirlpool is full of furniture and amenities like the ice machine and vending machine are broken or empty. The hotel is adjacent to the beer vendor and strangers have been frequently known to walk into rooms through the sliding door. Do not stay here if at all possible.

going down hill

Stayed many times... since ownership changed.. things have been sliding backwards...1st loyalty program cut. Then breakfast was trimmed back...comp coffee cut.. rooms not cleaned, stains on carpets, curtains, fitness area discontinued still best price in thompson, but book thru Expedia or on line, you get better rates than booking directly.... save 10% plus.... found that one out after check in : (

Theives

At first we thought not bad for the price, rooms things were broken but was clean. You get what you pay for! Breakfast was complimentary but none the less cheap, coffee was great, the bathroom flooded they fixed it and cleaned it with towels didn't mop and than just left the dirty towels under the sink. The kicker is the end of the stay they kept our deposit for things that were already broken, and dirt on sheets and that there was a pizza crust on floor! I was working a leisure mart and telling a few people about it and they all said the same thing business and all!! So if you want to stay and get your money stolen!

Safe and reasonably priced

While looking for budget accommodations in Thompson, I was a bit worried reading all the negative reviews of multiple properties. I decided to spend a little bit more and I'm glad I did. This property is now called the Thompson's Best Value Inn and Suites. When I visited there was no sign and nothing referring to the new name of the place after being sold by Lakeview, but it is easy to find. I have to say I was happy with my stay; I was in a suite that was large and comfortable. Felt safe at all time, free breakfast was decent, rate was good. I was able to park my car right in front of my room and I could access my room from the inside hallway or outside. If I'm ever in Thompson again I know where I'm staying.

Hockey team

We are a hockey team from way up north. We work hard to fundraise money to join a local tournament. Air charters, hotels, car rentals etc... I call in Thursday afternoon. We had 8 rooms booked. I wanted to release 2. They said we couldn't because of the stupid 24 hour policy. So we fill in 7. Still pay for an extra room not used, which they didn't even give a key to. They made us pay 2 nights for an empty room. Even after calling about it on Thursday. We could have been released 1 night for Saturday night, at the very least. Nope they fought it to the very end. We argued. I asked to speak to the manager. One guy pointed at the other and said he was the manager. Then I asked who is his boss, first guy then said he is the manager. Treated us like idiots. They then said that they owned the place. Absolutely horrible hospitality. Lies, fight every detail, wouldn't even release one night at least because of a stupid policy. And here they have calls left right and centre from people looking for rooms. Never staying here again.

Congealed bacon

Well.... so far I've only felt the need to write a review of two hotels.... because i found them especially disappointing. And this is hotel number two. I travel pretty frequently, so am not stranger to a continental breakfast.... except when it's shockingly awful. The first morning I went for breakfast, the juice machine was out of juice, the waffle machine was out of batter... all that was left was some cereal... except no bowls to put it in. I looked everywhere for them before asking the front desk, then has to wait another couple minutes for them to find a bowl. When you're trying to eat to get to work.... this is not a good thing. I could smell bacon the first morning.... but guess it has all been eaten. The next morning was the same situation, but this time there was bacon.... only it was sitting on the counter in an uncooled tray. It contained layers and layers of bacon. I couldn't tell if it had been cooked or not.... but it didn't look cooked, and it was places close to the microwave... lol... so you could heat it yourself. It had loads of nasty looking fat in it and not being cooled I imagine lots of bacteria.... as it's clear that they put out the same tray every day until the large amount of bacon gets eaten. Sort of scary and insulting. The emergency doors don't open because the staff haven't even shoveled the snow out of the way, so if you stay in winter and there's a fire or emergency.... good luck. Lol. The hotel staff called my room at 6am on the second day I was there to ask what car I was driving as a car was illegally parked in their lot blocking another car.... it was not the one I was driving.... and I could hear all the rooms phones around me ringing as they were all asked the same question.... What a stupid thing to do. I didn't have to b up for work for another couple hours. You're a hotel. Don't call my room at 6am. Spend the $50 to call a two truck and move the car... don't wake up every hotel guest at 6am for that type if problem. It's funny and sad that whoever managed decided that was the smart move.... cus its not. The weekend we were there, there were loads of guests drinking in the hotel hallways until the late hours of the night.... also not good when you're on a work trip... good I guess if you wanna part and want a hotel where no one tells you not to spill your beer while chanting loudly as you run up and down the hallways at 3am.... but not my type of interests.... The best thing about the hotel were the staff. They were friendly and absolutely outgoing and lovely. If I owned a hotel id b happy to have any of them work for me. How can I say this do you ask? When it's so badly run...? Well.... I blame lack of management. When you don't have policies in place, when you don't have someone who can make intelligent leadership decisions... this is what happens. When staff don't have proper leadership.... even when they're totally awesome people as these staff were.... things start to fall apart... The rooms were nice enough. Basically, if someone made a few changes to the mentality of how this place is run... it would b a great hotel.... but I don't think I'll be going back to find out.... There's a wonderful best western in town. And no I don't work for them.... but they at least have policies and a level of standards... so you know what to expect. I suggest the lakeview make some changes or hire new management.... cus it has such potential to be a wonderful hotel....

Great hotel overall

Had a great experience from check in to check out. Quiet, clean and one of the nicer eating areas I have seen. Booked room online and it was super easy to do. Employees were all extremely friendly and helpful. Bonus you can rent free DVD's to watch in room.

Needs improvement

Don't expect to be greeted in a professional manner when arriving nor getting the room you booked. I will say that the morning staff are much better at giving you better treatment. Why do I have to have 200 characters to make a review?

Front Desk don't know there job

Nice rooms, comfortable beds. Front desk staff need to be trained better 3 out of 4 outside doors do not work with swipe cards, had to walk around the building to get in. House keeping was awesome. Rooms very nice and clean.

Not what it used to be like!

This hotel was once known as Country Inn and Suites however since the name change and ownership this property has progressively declined. For those with pet allergies the hotel is pet friendly and the occasional bark at 5:00 a. m. - 6:00 a. m. is not exactly my way of having a great sleep. And speaking of allergies the hotel is not smoke free - there is a section which still allows smoking and cigarette smoke can be easily smelled down the hallway corridor. Rooms are very worn and dated and in need of upgrades. Breakfast is substandard and in comparison to other hotels it could be much better in selection and quality. Although I have tried to give this hotel my continued business and have attempted to look past the ever increasing deficiencies the allowance of pets was my breaking point - especially when I had to eat alongside a guest and his non-companion dog in the breakfast area.

week-end trip

The staff here are great they remember you by name, the rooms are very clean, the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast is wonderful and a wide variety, very nice place to stay, Michelle the manager was great, staying there it is all about the guest, wonderful place to be. Like home away from home.

A Place Worth Staying At!

I have never had the opportunity to meet and interact with such a dynamic bunch of ladies, the staff at Lakeview are awesome. Their complete concern is full customer service which is hard to come by these days. The rooms have been updated lately making them clean, fresh and an enjoyable experience. If needed they have wheelchair accessible rooms with lots of space. Breakfast is always great, with lots of room to sit. The hotel is well located to the downtown of Thompson making it easy to get around by foot or car. Coffe is always on along with a smile, a combination worth stopping in for.

Very Accommodating Staff

This is a good, clean place to stay when in Thompson. I was there for a trip into Northern Manitoba by small plane and float plane and they let me leave some excess luggage on property while I was gone. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was a little sparse but did the job.

Consistantly good service

I have been travelling to Thompson once a month for close to 20 years and the vast majority of my stays have been at the Lakeview (or its previous iteration as Country Inn). I have tried every other hotel in town and have always returned to Lakeview for one reason or another. The guest services are excellent on check-in. The staff welcome me by name when I arrive (which isn't a surprise given the frequency at which I am there), and I have noticed that they often acknowledge other guests' arrival in the same manner. I believe that they are regularily checking the day's bookings so that they can greet everyone by name. The rooms that I usually get are suites with a living room / sitting area that has a fridge, sink and microwave. There is a large TV on the wall and usually a DVD player [sometimes the DVD player is connected to the TV in the bedroom]. I have had occasional problems with the TV / DVD system not working and have had to change systems or move to a different room. If a DVD is important to your stay, I would test out the system when you first arrive before you unpack. Alternatively, you can phone the front desk the day of your arrival and ask them to ensure that the room you have has a working DVD. There is a large selection of DVD's available at the front desk at no charge. There is also a bookshelf with a number of books that you can borrow. The bedroom is sufficiently large (some with Kings and some with 2 beds [Queen or double -- I'm not sure] with large desk top TV. The beds are very comfortable and there is a large supply of pillows. The bed coverings are new, having all been replaced a few years ago. It is an older hotel, and there are the occasional signs of wear and tear (a nick here and a scratch there) but it was repainted over that past couple of years and is looking pretty good. There is available a breakfast every morning, both hot and cold. My biggest complaint about the breakfast is with regards to toasters -- even on high, they seem to take almost a minute and a half to produce a medium-dark piece of toast. Otherwise, there is a wide selection of breakfast items -- coffee, tea, juices, milk, bagels, several breads, cereals (hot and cold), muffins, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, freshly-made waffles, and sausage or bacon (or, sometimes both). Lakeview Inn is located accross the street from Pizza Hut, Subway and A & W, a just ablock and a half away from Adventurer's North, where you can get, what I feel is the best prime rib in the province, if not in the country. A point about the ratings below -- I gave 4 out of 5 for 'rooms' and 'restaurant', but would have prefered to give 4 1 / 2 out of 5 if I could. The rooms could use a little bit more sprucing up and I have had a (very) few occasions where housekeeping did a less-than-ideal job. Because there is is not an actual restaurant but a self-serve, I took off a half point.

My oasis

My husband and I spent the weekend there for our anniversary. The hotel manager Michelle exceeding guest excellence. My husband kept it a surprise and Michelle had went out of her way and placed flowers in our room that my husband had ordered to surprise me. She also directed us to a fabulous restaurant. She made us feel right at home. We also enjoyed the newly renovated oasis with the great hot tub and sauna. We had the perfect weekend in this great, friendly, clean hotel. I would stay there again in a second and have hold all our friends. Thank you for, your great hospitality Michelle!!! AAA plus

Perfect!

I travel to Thompson on business about 4 times a year and always stay at the Lakeview in Thompson. The staff are wonderful and my stay is always amazing. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that is coming up to Thompson.

DIAMOND in a rough but beautiful place!! - Andre P

This is my 2nd trip to Thompson for business in the last 2 months... and this is my 2nd stay at Lakeview Inn & Suites, Thompson MB... I am writing this review to recommend business people / vacationers to consider this hotel as your 1st choice for a place to stay.... The exterior is presentable... the entrance / reception area is very clean / " homey ". Shelley (reception) was very nice to deal with... the rooms are very clean.... The King bed is so comfortable... I arrived 8pm to the hotel... I relaxed on the bed and started watching TV; with the intention that I would go to a restaurant in 1hr and grab dinner... The next thing I knew is that I woke up 5am the next morning!! The combination of the bed and the bedding... is the culprit! Breakfast is also included... For the business people staying here... they have fax capabilities.. Michelle entered the faxes for me and then waited to make sure that the confirmation beep was heard... ensuring successful transmission. The fax machine seemed to be a older model... and I was told that they are looking into getting another current model... other than that... my fax' went through... The staff are very courteous and really make you feel welcome... I stay at many hotels in Canada.. each month for business and I always stay at the same hotels... for familiarity and comfortability.... Lakeview Inn & Suites (Thompson MB) is my hotel for Thompson. Critique

Manager and staff are wonderful!!! However I have a problem not being able to scan documents from the front desk. There is a need to modernize the office equipment up front!!! The building has been considerably upgraded, which is nice. However, the other two newer hotels are tough competition. Wish I had more advice for you!!

Great for pets

Have stayed here numerous times. Have had one bad experience, but they worked hard to correct it. Usually we are able to get a lower floor room which allows to walk the dogs very easily. Breakfast is decent waffles, cereal muffins, toast, hard boiled eggs, sausages. The rate is wonderful for Thompson. The rooms have been updated, but not the bathrooms... which defiantly could use it. The guests usually are workers going to remote camps, so it's usually very quite. Close to everything. Yes, there are people hanging out in the parking sometimes, but that is normal for thomspon, and if the staff are told, they will be removed

Average hotel

I spent a night here on business, the regular hotel I used was full. The hotel is very average, I had a 2 queen room and it was okay, some of the furniture and fixtures are getting a little rough and are in need of an update. The included breakfast was okay, but not as good as some others. The price was a llittle steep, as their is newer hotels in the area with comparable pricing.

Good-Sized Suites; Could Use Some Minor Maintenance TLC

I was up in Thompson on business for the umpteenth time this year and my usual Days Inn was fully booked. As a result, I spent a couple of nights at the Country Inn & Suites (renamed as of Oct 1 to Lakeview Inn & Suites). Although definitely not as new as the Days Inn, the Lakeview turned out to be a perfectly acceptable alternative. I ended up with one of the suites, which included both a living room and a bedroom (as opposed to some suite hotels that put a half-wall between a bed & a couch and call it a " suite "). The rooms were both quite spacious and each included a TV. The living room had a great table where I was able to set up my computer and get a really good wireless connection. As this hotel is a little older (probably in the 10-15 year range), some signs of age are apparent and the room definitely could use some minor maintenance work (eg. scuff marks on walls, chipped tiles, etc). Nothing too major, though... and the room was otherwise clean. The continental breakfast was pretty good. The addition of hard-boiled eggs (and yogourt on 1 of the 2 days of my stay) brings it slightly above average for this type of property. A number of previous reviewers have commented on the pool (or lack thereof). I can't comment on this. I didn't know there should've been a pool nor did I look for one... it's not something I use when I travel alone on business. All in all, a good value for the money... would not hesitate to stay here again.

2009-07-16 18:03:38

Clean and friendly

Read other review regarding cleanliness of hotel and was concerned about staying there. However having spent a few nights here I can say my fears were unfounded. The rooms and common areas are super clean (actually watched someone spend time scrubbing out inside of waste bin in breakfast room while getting coffee at midday), the breakfast area is spotless and has a decent selection (continental) to eat. The pool area is presently closed for renovations which is unfortunate but hopefully they will have it open soon.

2009-05-04 09:56:40

Stay Away

This hotel offers a pool and hot tub on all there advertising. Be aware, they do not tell you that it is no longer there. The room I checked into was filthy to say the least. The front desk staff was freindly. They did not charge me anything when I did a 180 degree turn after seeing my room. I left and chrecked in at the brand new Days Inn. Very Nice and extremely clean. When I asked the front desk lady at the Country Inn how they could possibly rent out such dirty rooms her reply was that they could not hire any good staff. If you are in a Customer Service Driven buisness and cannot get people to Keep the standards high you are doomed as I believe they are. Stay Away.

2008-06-05 20:19:04

many times a guest

I have been a guest at this property many times during the past two years. It is my hotel of choice inThompson. The staff takes the time to know who you are and are willing to go out of their way to assist you. The rooms are clean and are kept that way daily. There are no negatives about this property, from my point of view. I've always felt secure here, both in the hotel and with my vehicle outdoors. The breakfast available is excellent. My only wish would be a larger variety of food items available for purchase (vending) outside of breakfast hours. I wish that more hotels had the same high quality staff and accomodations as the Country Inn and Suites in Thompson. Thanks for your great service!
