Make more slices y'all
This place has had consistently amazing pizza since Pete started it back in 2011. I have bought slices since then and miss the days of Pete mostly because he made his slices available EVEN In The Evening to locals. Since " Sir-gouge-alot " got ahold of it... prices just keep going up and slices are not available to most of the people having a hard time financially right now. However, The quality of the food has not diminished... and that is due to the gard working folks behind the counter. If you are lucky to get there early and do have the money.. both the Alfredo Eggplant and Shrimp Alfredo slices are AMAZING.
Good pizzas in a little strip shopping center
Just a few tables for dine-in. I guess most of their business is take-out. Our pizzas (one meat, one margherita) were very good. Soft drinks are self-serve from the fridge. Beer and wine can be brought in from next door.
Road Trip
We drove a long way to this Pizza Joint and it was worth it. Located in the middle of nowhere in a small shopping center. The restaurant is small, four tables and the heat from the oven can be felt everywhere. The flame rises 4 to 5 feet and the cook is an expert at making the pies delicious. We tried both a sausage (hot & sweet) and a pepperoni and both were cooked perfect. A little char. This is old time pizza at its best.
Don't judge a book by its cover
Never expected such great pizza and great employees! My first time here and will be back! Very busy take out, phone rang constantly while we were there!

This pizza is always consistent, the best pizza around this area. We've been coast to coast. We wanted pizza the other night and there was a 3 hour wait so we went to Brothers Pizza, first visit. No wait but the food was horrible, which is why there was a 3 hour wait for Pizza Joint. We've should have waited or done without pizza that night.
Excellent pizza
Excellent value for price. The location Is basic but cozy, both the pizza and caprese were well prepared with high quality ingredients. As Italians we know this Is not so common in the USA. We also suggest to choose simple pizza, avoiding elaborate toppings

I love this place. The staff are all so polite and food is SUPER delicious! They also offer lots of bottled refreshments and BYOB.
Best Wood Fired Pizza Ever
We just love this place. Four tables inside with one outside. You can watch you food being cooked in the wood fired oven right next to your table. We had their " small " salad that we split with the house Italian dressing. Then a " small " pepperoni pizza that gave us two pieces each and two to take home. REALLY impressive is that it's BYOB!
Tasting Is Believing !
Like most people, we are review driven. This establishment is such a find. Easy to drive by. You would be doing yourself a disservice. We ordered 3 pizzas. A white Pizza so tasting my taste buds were freeking out. I so wanted to add anchovies, which would complement this entree. Unfortunately, my guests don't like Anchovies. The veggie pizza was cooked perfectly. The crust is done well & well done! Seating consists of 3 tables dozen patrons or so. It is also a BYOB! All the others reviews are spot on. Love this place, Can't wait to try other items.

Just started working my way through the pizzas. So far, I have had the Hawaiian, a sausage & mushroom and BBQ pork. All excellent so far. The BBQ pork was really good with the scallions and pineapple on it. One pizza oven so don't complain if you try to order a pizza at peak times like some reviewers have. Also, BYOB so bring your beer or a bottle of wine.
Great hole in the wall pizza place
Great little hole in the wall pizza place, don't be deterred but the gas station plaza location outside of town. The Pizza and calzone were great. Good portions of topping and really good dough. Service was friendly and fast, bathrooms clean. Only downside was no free water but they had water and sodas to pick from or you could go get a drink at The gas station next door and bring it in.
One of My Two Favorite Pizza Places in the entire U. S.!
I live an hour away, and it's worth the drive for their pizza!!! BEST. CRUST. EVER!! Great sauce. So many toppings to choose from. They'll custom make whatever you want on a pizza. There's nothing to complain about at this place. Friendly, courteous, efficient service. Clean. Enough parking. Can't ask for more!

Unbelievable Pizza and Wings, corner dive spot
AMAZING Brick Oven pizza and DELICIOUS wings!!! We found this by accident going from Ocala to Crystal Rivers today. It is a total hole in the wall on the outside and the MOST AMAZING PIZZA AND WINGS straight out of the brick oven. We are from TX. We travel all over the country and world, this spot is as good as any anywhere. So good my husband and I both left a review. STOP HERE!!
Good food at the right price
My wife and I got a couple subs at the pizza joint, we had heard they were very good, we were told correctly the subs are delicious there and the people are more than kind and friendly. Prices are very reasonable too. We can't wait to try their fire oven pizza they look great. We recommend The Pizza Joint for subs and pizza.

Don't Miss This One. We almost drove by it
The pizza was very good. We got a pepperoni and added meatballs. The only thing that would have made it better was extra cheese. Once we placed our order one guy made it and another guy cooked it to perfection. In about 10-15 minutes we were eating our pizza I would definitely recommend trying it. I feel like you will really like it
Good and Tasty
This is a small place at a gas station. Quarters are tight but all is clean and tidy. The pizza was very fresh and tasty. Good value. Service wasn't just ok. A smile or two would go a long way

Horrible crust and acidic tasting sauce. Nothing special to say. Over priced and will not return. Finding good pizza in Florida is challenging!
Excellent Pizza and Cannolis!
Stopped here after kayaking the Rainbow River based on the TripAdvisor reviews. Was not disappointed. Pizza was excellent and so were the Cannolis. Would highly recommend!
Real Hand Tossed / Brick Oven Pizza
This is a great place to come for pizza. It's hand tossed and backed in a real brick oven. Everyone here was fantastic. We will definitely be returning here.
Great pizza
We ordered a Hawaiian pizza and it was very good. Wood fired pizza have thin crust and this is what we like. The crust is also baked just right. It is a smaller restaurant so there is not a lot of room to set.

absolutely the best pizza in Citrus County! Crust is homemade and chewy and this pizza is baked in a wood fired oven from Italy! This is our only go to pizza and we drive over 25 miles to get there! This is worth it!

Our first time at the Pizza Joint was awesome. I was concerned that the pizza would be overly burned or have a very smokey taste but that wasn't the case. We were greeted immediately and asked if we were first timers, we said we were and were given a menu. We ordered and the pizza arrived in a short time. I have to say it was the best I have had in this County! The crust actually had flavor and held together with the toppings. The toppings had a slight crunch to them and were perfect. Usually, the toppings are over cooked and soggy. I hear the wings are very good as well and can't wait to go back to try those. It's a bit of a hike to get there but it was SO worth it. The pizza was great and the staff, very friendly. Go, you won't regret it.

I have to be honest, we didn't expect much from a hole-in-the-wall joint attached to a gas station, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Buuuuut... omg! The pizza was so yummy - perfect crust, crispy and chewy. The sauce is balanced and the pizza had the right amount of it. And gooey delicious mozzarella. Sigh. I want some right now. I've lived in New York and Chicago, so I've had legit pizza. This fits in that category for sure. And the people who work there are super friendly too. All-around great experience.
Chewy, Crusty Crust Full of Flavor!
I ordered a 16' extra cheese and a 16' pepperoni, plus a dozen garlic cheese sticks. The crust, the cheese, everything.... AMAZING! Had to wait a while because they are busy, but it was well worth it. I will be ordering from them again without a doubt.
Worth the drive
Very good pizza crust. We had the white pizza which was excellent due to the woodfire and ingredients. However the marinated wings were bland. However it maybe due to my fondness of hot wings. Shame that on the board it was advertised that they had rubbed wings when I ordered prior to my arrival.
Pie for Dinner
Had a full day so why cook. We had the woodfire pizza with pepperoni it's all about the crust and smoke. Also their special Rosemary wings again it's that special aroma and taste. The smeller and the buds were hitting on all cylinders.

Don't let the outside fool you, this was some of the beat pizza I have EVER had!!! Fresh mozzarella and basil and tons of other premium toppings. And the wood fire pizza oven just makes it all even better. And the cannolis were AMAZING!! I honestly expected them to taste like they came from the local grocery store freezer section but I was wrong. Did I also mention the friendly customer service? Make the drive after enjoying the river and you won't regret it!

Great pizza and prompt service. Really fresh ingredients and wonderful wings. Not your Dominos or Papa John prices, but they were worth the extra price.

Yummmm! Hole in the Wall Goodness!!
We never would have stopped here if it weren't for TA. The pizza is fire cooked and absolutely delicious! The 4 of us had 2 16 inch pizzas and brought home 1 slice. I can't say enough about this place. Go to the gas station next door, buy your beer, and bring it to this establishment. We live in the Atlanta area and have never had pizza this good!! Fresh toppings, pizza by the slice, all so scrumptious. Someone at an RV campground told us about this place or we never would have gone. WOW!!

EXCELLENT PIZZA & WINGS
No better pizza in the area! Best wings also and don't forget the cannolis, haven't had one this good since I left Boston! Staff is incredibly accommodating and always happy! You will not go away hungry or disappointed! We've been going her for several years and now are bringing out friends so they can experience what we do! Thanks!

Whenever I am in the area, this is my " Go to " place. I have never tasted such flavorful wings! It's a pizza place, but do NOT sleep on these rosemary wings!!!
Great Pizza
I live not far from this delightful pizza place. When I first moved up here was a bit scared to visit as it's next to a gas station. But I had to give it a try cause I love pizza. The pizza is really good. I always get a couple of pepperoni slices. Covered in pepperoni and oohey gooey cheese. My only complaint and it's not a biggie is the crust is a bit dry but it doesn't keep me from coming back. Some day I should try some of their other items.

Wanted a sub for a quick lunch. Ordered by phone and it was ready when I got there. As always, delicious. Staff is always so nice and friendly and helpful. Pizzas are delicious, too.

Great Pizza
This place is off the beaten path. They cook your pizza in the fire pit. They also have salads and calzones. We got a pizza and salad. They were both very good. They only have 4 tables with little atmosphere. Definitely a great place to get your pizza to go.

We had a large " White Pizza " with spinach for take out. Excellent taste, crust, and size. Do not let the location put you off. Highly recommend!

A hidden gem Dunnellon
We were together for a family getaway and wanted to continue our quest of finding an awesome pizza place. Read the reviews and game on. So first impression on arriving, is this a gas station? Well, their is a gas station next door BUT this place is 100% legit for oven fired pizza and great pizza shop. We got a Meat pie, a cheese and one one ricotta and meatballs. Ordered garlic sticks and for me who is a self proclaimed wing snob, I ordered the House Wings. All of the food was amazing but the house wings won my heart, they were amazing. Do yourself a favor and visit them. And last but not least, helpful staff, very friendly and offered to carry my feast to my car. This place is a must stop for us at every visit.
Outstanding Wood Fired Pizza
First time here on a whim traveling through Dunnellon on way back from golf. Friendly staff & fast takeout service. A nice tasting crispy crust topped with our combination of fresh cheese & ingredients from pepperoni, spicey Italian sausage, black olives, green peppers, banana peppers & mushrooms. Absolutely delicious!!! A gold mine find.
The best of the best pizza!
While visiting the area, we found The Pizza Joint on TripAdvisor and we're so happy we decided to try it. Don't let the location next to a gas station deter you. The place is clean, the staff were super friendly and we ate inside. The food: we ordered three different pizzas which all were cooked perfectly in the wood-fired oven. The wings were the best we've ever had with rosemary, olive oil and caramelized onions. The caprese salad had abundant buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil over ripe tomatoes. A hidden gem of a restaurant. If we were local, we'd eat here all the time.
Hands down best pizza
My wife and I stopped in on our way to our AirB & B and we were not disappointed. This was hands down some of the best pizza we've ever had since we were in Italy a few years ago. The wood fired oven, the quality of the dough and toppings really make all the difference. I wish we had a place like this closer to us in Orlando.

First off, I lived in Italy for a number of years and am spoiled for pizza and have searched high and low for good pizza. I say good because the pizza in Italy is great pizza. This place is right there on par with Italy. Great ingredients, perfect oven and well trained staff help to concoct a truly delicious pizza! The dough is perfect and cooked to perfection in the brick, wood-fired oven. The ingredients are spot on with true fresh mozzarella and delicious meats and fresh basil. The CANNOLI are outstanding!! Great fresh crispy dough filled to the brim with deliciously sweet filings. The place is on the smaller side but that's true to form for most Italian places and they offer take away. Do yourself a favor and eat here!!

Found the reviews on Trip Advisor and we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed loved the pizza and cheese sticks. It is a small and unassuming place next to a convenient store with very friendly folks working that are there to please. Worth a short drive for some local pie.
Great lunch
Little hole in the wall place in the middle of no where. Real wood fire oven and great pizza. They have pizza by the slice which is great. The salad is plenty for 2 or 3 to share before pizza. They use fresh local veggies and have a wonderful house italian dressing. It will hit the spot for your pizza craving.
Yummy brick oven pizza at a great price
Being from the Chicago area we are used to great pizza, and we drove a little out of the way to get this awesome pizza! It is a very small place connected to a Citco gas station and just has a few tables, but boy is it worth it! The ladies were delightful to talk to and we were able to order the pizza exactly the way we wanted it - they had never made one with olive oil instead of red sauce! They usually have people call in to pick up, but we enjoyed sitting in that small room with other happy customers!

Great service, great food, did I mention the friendly service? Pizza was great. Buy you beer and wine next door and enjoy yourself at a reasonable price.
Worth the backtrack
We were on our way to Rainbow Springs when we decided it was time for lunch. Consulted Trip Advisor and had to try this place based on all the positive feedback. We backtracked 15 minutes and it was worth it. I'm so glad they offer pizza by the slice. We tried 3 different pizzas plus the garlic sticks and dessert. The prices were reasonable for the high quality. I'd rather pay for quality than have cheap gross pizza. Yesterday we had cheap gross Mexican so today is looking up!!!
Best Pizza in Dunnellon
Off the beaten path but worth the drive. Watch the pizza master Peter, grill while you wait. Service with a smile. Friendly staff. Try the garlic sticks ~ they are amazing! The pizza was great! If I was staying longer in the area I would have gone back to try another meal. They have a variety of dishes on their menu.

Best Pizza in central Florida
Some good friends introduced us to this place and it was a wonderful experience. First of all, this is an unlikely place that offers incredible pizza. It is part of a gas station on the road from Crystal River to Dunnellon. They offer pizza baked over a wood fire and it is by far the best I have ever experienced. You need to bring your own wine and beer. The seating is limited but the food is great. If you love pizza, this is the place to go in this part of Florida.

Some friends had found this place and told us what a unique place it was & how good the pizza was so we thought we would check it out. It's a cash only, BYOB, little joint in the same building as a gas station out in middle of no where. There are four tables inside that seat four & two tables outside that seat four. But what magic they do with their wood fired pizza oven!! We ordered a salad which was enough for all four of us with enough to take home. It came with a bottle of what looked to be Good Seasons Italian dressing which I make at home & we love. Our friends ordered 10 wings. They came with caramelized onions & Rosemary. Very good! We ordered the shrimp, clams & bacon with Alfredo sauce pizza. Our friends ordered the pepperoni with green peppers & onions pizza. Both were outstanding! There was enough to share & we each were able to take almost half a pizza home! The staff was friendly & accommodating. We would recommend this wonderful little place to anyone visiting or living in the area. I made the remark that this place should be sent to Guy on Triple D & other diners all said " No.... it wouldn't be the same after they came! "
No place better!
Best pizza, hands down. All fresh ingredients. The pasta is as good as my wife's, and that's saying something! The portion is gigantic, anyone who can eat a whole one should be ashamed of themselves. Salads are HUGE and the dressing homemade. I have never seen a calzone as big as the one they make, EVER! The staff couldn't do more for you and Peter the Owner is one of the nicest guys I know, ALWAYS appreciates your business. Can't say enough great things about this place, we're there at least once a week and take all our friends and family here.

Way out in the country, attached to a garage, wood fired, & Very good
Many people have told us good things about " The Pizza Joint, " have gotten bad directions but putting it into the GPS finally got us there last night. The own (/) couldn't have been a nicer guy, filling us in on the menu, availability of drinks, a BYO from the little market next door... and his wonderful pizza! A slightly smoky flavor, with a lightly charred crust, with many toppings, - was it GOOD! Really enjoyed the pie! Good place, I do think we'll be coming back. NO CREDIT CARDS - CASH ONLY!
Not a fluke, it's the best around
I wrote a glowing review the first time we ate here, but sometimes repeat visits aren't as good. Luckily that's NOT the case with The Pizza Joint. Visit after visit the food is delicious and the service is outstanding. Salad, wings, pizza, pasta, sandwiches and cannoli.... you can't go wrong here!

I'm not a Pizza Fan, but I am a Pizza Joint fan!!
I'm not a fan of pizza. Well... up until yesterday. Seems what I've been eating all these years at chain pizza places were nothing but cardboard with cheese on top. We had heard a radio ad about " The Pizza Joint in Dunnellon " on our local radio station, and this past Saturday night decided to make it a Date Night and give it a try. My husband and I drove 22 miles (1 way) and past a few commercial pizza places to give The Pizza Joint a try.... and we were NOT disappointed!! Walking past the Basil growing in pots near the front door, and the wood stacked inside, we then met Pete the owner. While looking over the menu, Pete gave us a run down of some of the specials... We opted for a Sausage, Feta, Arugula and caramelized onion pie. Each pizza is made to order, so no, you won't get the $5 pizza that's been sitting under lights for hours.... We got our drinks and went to sit at 1 of the 4 tables inside.... Yes... this isn't a huge place, so if you show up and those tables are full, you might have to take your dinner or lunch to go... Oh well... The owner brought us our 16 " pie piping hot right out of the pizza oven and it was fan-tastic!! We only ate half and brought the rest home... I could have gotten by with 1 slice, as they're cut pretty big, but it was too good not to indulge in another. While we were waiting, we chatted with another couple who were seated next to us, and asked if they had been there before... the guy says " Yea, we're here once a week " When I said it was our first time, the man seated at the table said " I used to own a pizza shop in New Hampshire, and this is better than anything I ever made... " So... our next trip we've already decided which pizza we'd get, and also decided we'd get a cold beer from next door which Pete the owner Welcomes in his establishment.... Support Local!! I also think after a long float down the nearby Rainbow River, this would be a perfect place to stop for dinner / lunch on the way home! Pete's going to need to get a bigger place if this keeps up... :))
Great pizza joint!
Really had a good visit. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. House made wings were awesome. We had a cheese and the works pies. Definitely will return if in the area. Would like to try some of their specialty pizza's and subs. We passed on the cannoli's but kinda wish we hadn't!
Cool Vibe, Hot Pizza
When we pulled into the parking lot of this gas station, I was skeptical. But the place goes all out when it comes to food and service. The pizzas are cooked in a wood-fire oven, right before your very eyes. Great, crispy crust and delicious toppings. The salads were fresh and flavorful too. Add to that wonderful staff and free wifi, and you've got yourself an unexpected treasure. If you want wine, bring your own bottle and cups.

We are from Indiana and came to eat here after doing a snorkeling with manatees trip (after getting a recommendation from our Captain). We are glad we chose this! The pizza and garlic bread sticks were absolutely delicious! the wood fire style makes it different and very tasty! The prices were great, e specially with some specials that had going! We were greeted by a very friendly and welcoming stuff who really seemed to care about making our dining experience great. We were very pleasantly surprised. It's a small place but we felt comfortable and welcome. Would recommend to all!
Great pizza!
They have great wood fire pizza!! Lots of toppings. Wood fire house wings are really good, marinated for 24 hours with caramelized onions and garlic cheesy bread. Family owned and run VERY nice and pleasant! Would highly recommend it if your in the area.

The subject line of this review is, of course, a famous quote from " The Godfather " movie. But it works for this review too! We had our usual delicious meal (their pasta with ricotta and meatballs) at The Pizza Joint last night, but this was the first time we took a pair of cannolis home. The " Dunnellon " location is half way between Crystal River and CC Dunnellon.. Not convenient if you live in either place.. There is no delivery and they do not accept Credit Cards... If you place an order over the phone they will not specify that they do not accept CC's.. They will surprise / direct you to the store next door to pay an additional fee to get cash for their purchase! Their pizza is expensive...
It's like a party in my mouth!
I moved to Florida a little over a year ago, by chance we found The Pizza Joint. The atmosphere created by the staff is great. They are very helpful and personable. First we tried the white pizza with spinach. I was at a loss for words. It was the most amazing pizza I'd ever eaten. Then another patron of the restaurant said, " you have to try the wings! ", so we did and all I can say is WOW! There is nothing like them! And who could forget about the absolutely amazing stuffed to order canolis? If you haven't tried The Pizza Joint, you don't know what you're missing!
True Pizza Joint
1 word- Amazing Alas reviews with 1 word usually do not sum up the best stops. The staff at the Pizza Joint should give classes to other businesses on how to handle customers. The wood fire oven adds puts the flavor back in pizza. After all the delivery service pizza I've had I wasn't looking forward to pizza on my vacation. Peter (the owner) surprised me with how good a pie can be out of this oven. The kids ordered pizza, my wife and I ordered stuffed shells. The portion size was more then my wife could eat. Our appetizer of wings also had a unique twist. I was do them an injustice if I tried to describe them but it is well worth the gamble to have them. I will be ordering them every time I am in town. We ordered and had hot food in front of us by the time we got settled in. No sooner then the appetizer's were in front of us and we started them we had main meals being brought to us. The pacing of the meal was perfect. I will be returning often to the Pizza Joint Side note- the homemade side salad could be eaten as a meal for those into salad only meals.
DO NOT SKIP THIS!!!!
We had been in the car for 5 hours and this was the last place to stop before we hit Lake Rousseau. So we stopped.... it was 8:45pm. OMG! The pizza was so good we got one to go! THe crust is perfect! They use only the best cheese and the tomatoes for the sauce are the same we use at home from the local gourment market! Needless to say- we want to go back! One of the children of the owner has made very cute menu's and you feel like you are eating at their table! They are so nice!
oh so good pizza
Wow a real wood fire pizza joint! This place is off the beaten path, kinda out in the middle of nowhere, if your a local of dunnellon or Crystal river you know about this place & is busy all the time. owners are so gracious & friendly. All pies are 16 " you can get single slices though, wings are delicious too. closed on Mondays and cash only (there is a atm next door if you need one) good good pizza
Good crust other not eatable
After all the wonderful reviews, my wife and I deceided to give this pizza a go. The crust was spot on but everything else was less than mediocre. The fresh garlic, haha, was jared and bitter and overpowered the whole pizza. Sauce and cheese were almost nonexistant, the peperroncini were bland banana peppers. Although the crust was great, the toppings were uncooked. Still looking for a good pizza in citrus.
Don't miss this Citrus County Gem
After reading the recent Citrus Chronicle review, I packed the kids in the car and headed for the back roads to this hole in the wall. The Pizza joint did not disappoint. The owner and his staff were friendly and eagerly inquired if we were newbies- You would be a fool to miss the chicken wings. Please resist the temptation to just get the BBQ or Sirrachi ones- you must the get the house wings with rosemary, lemon and garlic; they fell off the bone and I nearly fell off my chair. The pizza is sublime: thin and crispy, reminiscent of the pies I've had in Naples and Ischia, Italy. BYOB is a nice bonus and if you forget cash, the cute gas station next store will convert you credit into cash for a buck. It doesn't get better than that. Oh wait, it does. Forgot to mention the cannoli. Perfect amount of sweetness.... Get in your car and go visit the pizza joint, its the real deal.
Amazing food in Citrus County area
After recently moving back to Citrus County, I was excited to try out The Pizza Joint, which I found randomly one day on TripAdvisor and was taken aback by the outstanding reviews. As I am always on what seems to be a perpetual search for amazing pizza, my fiancee and I stopped in here on our first night back. While I often feel that most pizza places offer a standard, sub-par product that we have all come to know, The Pizza Joint stands out above and beyond the mediocre " Italian " food that is so common in not just Citrus County, but in large cities, as well. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted with a friendly welcome and told that there was no problem with us enjoying the wine that we brought (always a bonus). We ordered the eggplant special which came with thinly sliced eggplant, fresh garlic, and fresh basil. The pizza was cooked to absolute perfection, tasted fresh, and had wonderful flavor. We can't wait to go back again and are looking forward to trying out the wings next time. We already told our family and some friends about this establishment as we were extremely excited for something so genuinely good and special to be in the area. I have eaten pizza all over the country, including New York City, and this place is up there with the best of them without the pretension and right here in beautiful Citrus County. Highly recommend this place!!!
Best Pizza, Best Wings
I have ordered take out twice so far. The first time ordering the arugula special pizza with the PJ salad. All I can say, you have to give arugula on a pizza a try... this pizza is awesome!!! As I am sure the rest are. LOVE the wood fire crust! Love the flavors of the pizza. The salad was huge, and enough for 3 people with a homemade Italian dressing, so good. Then last night I ordered the wings..... WOW!!! Yummy! They marinade them in a home made marinade and them cook them in that special wood oven, so good, so tender (I would love to have some more right now). Not only is this little place a food find (can't wait to try the pastas and homemade meatballs), the owner is such a nice guy. He is so friendly, and shows he appreciates your business, and he even had one of his staff carry my food out to the car. This place reminds me of what would be everyone's favorite place in a NYC neighborhood. I wish them much success, and will be back on a weekly (or more) basis.
Great Pizza and Great People
The wood fired pizza here shines and so does the hard working, very friendly owner, Pete. Even if you want to just get take out, grab a beverage at the market next door, sit outside, meet some nice locals and eat a fresh hot slice before the cruise home. Great to see a small business with so much heart!!

Remarkable little gem
Off the beaten path hides this shining example of brick oven pizza. We were skeptical to say the least as we pulled into the lot. The crew was exceptionally welcoming and kind, and the manager or owner was energetic, positive and appreciative. Their prices are reasonable and their menu is small yet varied. Let me tell you, there is no better pie than a wood burning brick oven our. I am a general manager of a major pizza chain and have been in this business for over a decade. You will not regret the trip to this little gem. Bring cash though because that's all they accept.
Best in Florida
We had decided over the last several winters that good pizza is hard to come by in Florida. This place is the exception, great ingredients nice crust and a good experience. The staff was friendly and as a bonus they have a great stereo and like their tunes. We will be back.

Best pizza in town
My wife and I are on vacation from California and we love pizza, so when we were told about The Pizza Joint, we just had to try it. Safe to say this was the best meal of our entire trip! We split a Hawaiian, which I would highly recommend, and we brought in our own bottle of wine from the store right next to the pizza joint. Friendly and great customer service. Go try it!
No Words... Great Guys, Amazing Food!
I'm From Boston and Wood Fire Pies are an Art form, It really takes Mastering. With that said, By God These Guys Do It Right!.. I tried a bit of everything. Pizza, Wings, and you Gotta get a Canoli. Not your 3.99$ Wednesday Special.. for that I Recommend the Typical GMO stuffed Papa Johns.. These Guys know What REAL FOOD is all about. Great ingredients. From your First whiff of the Wood Fire Char, to your Last Bite. Its Everything I Remember Pizza Being when i was up in Boston and Visiting New York.
A Place That Knows How to Make Pizza
Dunnellon, FL and surrounding area has many pizza places. Unfortunately, none of them know how to make pizza. However, the Pizza Joint is that little secret gem that's got it down. Small place inside a gas station strip mall but don't be deceived. A few tables inside are usually filled in the early eve but we waited a short period and had our choice. The wood fired oven and all the employees are in view. Service was quick and efficient along with being very friendly. The owner made sure all was well with our " pie " throughout our stay even though he was quite busy with take-out service. Don't go here if you're looking for atmosphere, go here because you want to try out the best pizza in the area... hands down! You can't get a cold beer here unless you bring it but they had no problem with my small cooler full of cold ones.
Try the Wings!
We've eaten at The Pizza Joint a few times.... usually meet friends there for dinner and split a pie. Tonight we did the same, but ordered 20 wings. In my life I've never had anything like them!! HEAVENLY.... we all LOVED them! I have no idea what they're marinated in, but when you can see the Fresh Rosemary and other herbs right on the wings, you know it's going to be good! I gotta get the recipe... Give the wings a try... you'll be hooked too!

The best pizza on the gulf coast
After a 46 day trip with no pizza, we ended up at the Pizza Joint for the magic that Pete puts into the wood fired oven. Tonight, shrimp, artichokes & arugula. Amazing! Well worth the trip from anywhere. Don't let this tiny hidden gem fool you, it is simply the best!!
Best Pizza Ever!!
Found this little place on trip advisor. Decided to give it a shot. Best Pizza we've ever eaten!! Will go back!!It doesn't look like much it's next to a citgo station but don't let that fool you. Such wonderful pizza and excellent service!!
Brick Oven
The Works great pie with meat toppings and that Brick Oven crust. Even though a 20 minute drive for take out this pizza weathers the trip. For us the crust is the first bite and soft with a crispy crunch the Joint has its act together. Sauce is right not sweet as other places and just the right amount. Try the wings every place serves wings but these are a twist of flavor.

The restaurant is small limited seating there is outdoor seating & tables. The oven baked pizza was delicious my wife & I enjoyed the atmosphere, menu selections, and the very friendly staff
Wood-fired pizza
We went on the recommendation of our manatee guide. This alone made the tour worth it! THe pizza is made in a wood-fired oven which is the way it's done in Italy. The basil I had on my pizza was picked on the spot from their basil plants. If you like Italian style pizza with a thin, crispy crust, you will love this pizza.
Original and Delicious!
We found The Pizza Place when I did a search for 'best wings in Dunnellon'. I was a little skeptical because usually wings at Pizza restaurants are a little soggy. Oh my! The wings were unbelievable. Two totally different recipes and both were amazing. My husband liked the House wings best (marinated) and I loved the spicy. Get spinach bbq and add honey. Super tasty. We also ordered two pizzas and both were the perfect blend of toppings, sauce and fire roasted crust. We will be eating leftovers tomorrow for sure. Definitely take the time to find this little restaurant. Cash only, so bring the green stuff. We'll be back real soon.
Amazingly delicious brick oven pizza!
Being Italian from Chicago, a good pizza has been hard to find since living in Florida for many years. It took vacationing from Sarasota in Dunellon at Rainbow River to discover the " BEST Pizza " I've had in years! This place rocks with fresh tasty ingredients on their veggie pie. Try it! It will leave you wanting more!!

We stopped by after tubing the Rainbow river and had a delicious lunch!! From the outside, you might be hesitant, but give this place a try. The salad and pizzas were very good- we'll be back!! Support a locally owned business.
Wasn't impressed
Building looks run down. Pizza was ok a little burnt. Staff was friendly and takes really good care of you. Just not the wow factor I was hoping for.

This is a wood burning oven that cooks the pizza. The crust is burnt a little give off that aroma of New York pizza.
Smokin' Pizza
We heard about this joint and decided since I'd had a wood-fired pizza oven in my last home, we'd have to try it out. The pizza in the Ocala area hasn't been anything to write home about, so... It was a tiny little place sharing a common wall with a gas station. It has about 4 tables, most of the square footage is the kitchen & order area. The pizza oven is there in plain site for you to see, as your order gets cooked. They only serve 16 " pizzas. No other choices. Lots of combinations to chose from and you can also build your own as you like. We started with a 16 " garlic cheese sticks which is basically a pizza with garlic and cheese cut into strips. WOW I inhaled it, loved the flavor and it was definitely garlicky!! We ordered one meat lovers and one veggie, plenty of ingredients on the pizza. It was really yummy. I wish they had a thinner crust option, after the garlic cheese it was a bit too much crust for me, but overall it was the best pizza I've had down here. No liquor but you can get it at gas station, and a few options if root beer and other drinks in a cooler. I'd definitely go here again.

we just moved here from maine and ask if there was a good pizza place around well the people told me theres just one and it was called the pizza joint we did try other but they wore just ok well the people were very nice and quick to take your order the man made that pizza from scratch and hand made dough wow he put it his half egg over and burn wood in it we watch it cook witch didnt take very long i was floord to tast a fresh made pizza the flaver was out of this world it was a peperoni and saug onion pizza i cant tell you how good this pizza was you need to go there and try this yourself and i had the best in boston but this place beats them all wow i will allways go back there to eat there salads mmmmamma so good the lady hand makes them and there dressings so if you want a good pizza its so worth the trip go to the pizza joint i bet you will allways go back i will from joyce and roy from wisscasset maine home dunnellon fl
Best pizza hands down!!!
Found this on TripAdvisor while in Crystal River and thought we'd give it a try. When we pulled up I thought this can't be it. It's beside a gas station in the same building out in the country. It doesn't look like much from the out side, but it makes up for it in flavor. We had the meat loves and was by far the closest to New York style pizza I've every had if not better!! The guy working told us we could bring our own alcohol if we wanted next time. Great food!!
Old World Pizza!
I'm a old Brooklyn, NY boy relo'd to the Midwest and now always in search of NY-NJ pie. I found another place! This is Pizza made old style in a wood fired oven. The crust is chard to perfection like only a wood fired oven can. Reminds me of when I used to go to Little Italy to get pizza. The crust was tasty not bland. It is not a crisp NY pie crust it is softer. But the taste is right on. I can tell they use the whole milk mozzarella is was nice a stringy. I sure miss that since most place use part skim and part skim lacks the taste. And while you are there eating pizza also order the wings. as an appetizer. These are fantastic " Italian " style wings. marinated and sprinkled with rosemary. A short ride from Crystal River. It's it adjacent to a gas station. Don't pass it up! You will not be disappointed. Great Pizza and Wings
Wood oven pizza with lots of speciality choices. We had a pizza and the Pizza Joint salad (one was enough for 3 of us) and the house wings. All three were great. Salad was so fresh with lots of greens and different types of tomatoes - delish. The wings were huge and the house preparation was different and yummy. Pizza was great. Staff was super friendly. There are a few tables and you can do take out.
Great Pizza!
If you like heavenly thin crust pizza made from fresh ingredients, this is the place to go. Be aware this is not your typical pizza joint, despite the name: Cash only It's BYOB for alcohol (they sell bottled soft drinks, water, juice and Snapple products) but if you want a beer you have to bring it yourself, either from home or the gas station / convenience store next door. There's only 1 size of pizza, 16 ". You can buy by the slice if you prefer. There are only 4 indoor and 2 outdoor tables. Be prepared to wait for a table or take it home. Staff was very friendly and informative of menu options; service was reasonably fast. They serve burgers, wings, huge salads, garlic bread, but mostly wood-fired pizza any way you want it. We did half meat / half veggie, loaded with toppings and creamy cheese! Some of the best pizza I've ever had! It's a bit of a drive from anywhere, but sooooo worth it!
Looks are definitely deceiving
Looking for something to have for lunch in Crystal River and found The Pizza Joint. We were a little nervous pulling in because it's attached to a gas station. Saw a couple of tables outside and decided that at worst we get the pizza to go. Came inside to discover friendly staff and a cute diner type setup. Pizza is cooked in a wood oven and is delicious! You have the option of by the slice or full pizza. They also have sandwiches and wings! Everything is cooked in their wood oven. Very glad we didn't judge this book by its cover.
Best pizza in Florida
Heard about this small place at the Shed in Homosassa and they were so enthusiastic we went yesterday. Absolutely the best pizza in Citrus County and the second best wood fired oven pizza ever. The first one we had was in Queechee Gorge, VT and haven't been to one since until yesterday. This is a definite repeat very often! BYOB, which is great, convenience store next door has Longboard, yum!
Authentic Pizza
We used to live in Napoli and this is as authentic as we've found back in the States. Wood fired and juicy with just the right toppings and spices. Don't let the size of the place fool you (four tables), and the wait is well worth it.
TASTLESS
Maybe it was an off night but my Pizza was not good. The crust was flat and basically devoid of flavor. It was missing the signature burnt crust that adds so much to a wood fired Pizza (the edges were slightly burnt but without the puffy rise one expects in this type of pie). The topping were also less than memorable, burnt meatballs - very dense and tasteless, eggplant sliced so thin as to add nothing to the experience and cold tomato slices just strewn on top. The salad was good. So I plan to try this one more time but I am not hopeful that they will learn anything in the future about making a real Pizza in a wood fired oven. Hint - fix the dough !!
Unique experience!
I first found this place when I was visiting from out of state this past summer, and stopped in because it was close to the campground. I was pleasantly surprised that this unassuming, friendly little place produced such a wonderful product! We ordered several times that trip, and I've stopped in each time I've been in town since. The people are super friendly, I watched them slice the fresh mushrooms going on my pizza, and watched it go in the very cool open fire oven (with hotrod flames painted on the sides!!). The pizza was great, very fresh toppings, not too much sauce and the crispy crust was fantastic! I will stop here at least once every time I visit here from Kentucky. I highly recommend this hidden delight!
Best pizza
My husband and I saw the write up in the news paper for this pizza parlor and thought we would try it. Best pizza since I was a young wife in New Jersey. The crust was thin and toasty and the rest of the pizza just kept getting better. Going back again before leaving crystal river.

Awesome!
We were down in Crystal Springs in January for me to swim with the Manatees. On Glenn Wilsey's advice we decided to give it a try. Wow! What an amazing pizza!! So glad that we went! The smell of the place will make you want to stay a while and hang out. The chef was so friendly making us feel like we had been there many times. Feel like we made a friend! And to top off our experience, Captain Glenn was there eating! Thanks Glenn for the recommendation because we will be going every year when we are down there!
AWESOME RESTAURANT
My Husband and I think this place is extremely awesome. They are very nice and they have awesome food. We also love to eat there because they got a perfect score from 10NEWS restaurant red alert. That really means alot. We are so glad they are here and we pray they never leave. We will be back soon. Our friends from Chiefland said they will be back soon too.

Excellent food, burgers, wings, pizza, sub's, canolies, lasagna, stuffed shells, and BYOB. Absolutely love the staff Cant wait for the expansion :)
