Beautiful campus

We were able to spend an entire afternoon enjoying things to do on the campus. We toured the Fort Hill national landmark, Hanover house and the South Carolina botanical garden. All of these locations were free, other than a donation if you'd like and most had free parking (had to pay for parking at fort hill landmark). The tour guides at both the historic homes were great. It was an enjoyable way to spend the afternoon and get to know Clemson a bit more.

Freshman Orientation

We were there for Freshman orientation. Campus is beautiful. Everyone nice and friendly. Exciting times!!!!!!! Enjoyed the book store and all the families we met.

Nice, safe and functional

Nice campus area, including free campus " bus " service. Centrally located. Clean and accommodating. I wish my home university long time ago would have been like this.

South Carolina is giving up in your life

South Carolina is the emptiness of people. Do not move there or do any financial transactions. They are crooks

Nice university campus especially along the horseshoe with historical college buildings

While visiting Columbia for first time, walked over to the university campus since it was right downtown near the capital state house. The campus along the horseshoe is pretty nice with tall oak trees on the grounds and historic 1800's college buildings. The main campus area is easy to navigate but newer buildings are spread out.

Beautiful Historic Campus

We walked around the campus when the students were gone for spring break. It's a beautiful campus and there's a lot of history. There's a large main lawn area with historic buildings. Nice landscaping for a quiet walk in a relaxing atmosphere.

Nice campus

We've been to the visitor center, where we were welcomed warmly and even offered cool water. The campus is beautiful, we enjoyed the time there. As we are only tourists from Europe, we were just soaking up the " American University Flair " and had a good time.

What a beautiful campus

Went to visit this campus to see where my granddaughter is enrolled. It's hot down here but the place is just amazing. They have wonderful football stadium.

Gamecock Club

Wonderful service at the ticket office-knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. This office is a bit tucked away; there are a few parking spots near it.

University of South Carolina - Southern Comfort!

I've had a number of friends who sent their kids to University of South Carolina so I decided to tour it with my oldest daughter. Came away very impressed. Beautiful campus and can only imagine how great the football tailgates would be! The town of Columbia has a great vibe too! Excellent choices of restaurants and places to get a beverage. If she is able to get in-state tuition (we live in Maryland), it might be a done deal! Go Cocks!

Fun little walk

We took a casual stroll through the campus. Enjoyed seeing the horseshoe and finding the " Cocky " statue. Beautiful place to walk.

Great School!!

My middle of 3 sons attends USC and loves it. Great facilities, dining, housing. He loves the warm weather. Nice for SEC sports. Best international business program in the country. One of the best Honors colleges in the country. In the Honors program, he gets the small school attention / advising in the middle of a BIG school

The Horseshoe is a must see

After visiting parts of the the campus several times over the years, my husband and I walked the entire campus in one day. The Horseshoe is quite beautiful with several buildings that are architecturally significant along its perimeter. The trees and ornamental plants are beautiful and provide a nice amount of shade during the day. The reflecting pond outside of the library is also a tranquil spot to visit.

2019-10-08 20:22:43

Calm and beautiful campus

This is not big, but calm and beautiful campus. Many trees and historic buildings were good. Specially I recommend to look around the library, there are a lot of marvel animations and campus alumni political correction.

Great school -warm welcome

Our daughter chose this school among all great schools she got in. It is totally the other side of the country for us. We came for a visit. We can tell she is happy and receiving what she needs- school events, families, academic resources. Great approachable professors. Then the built amazing student recreation center with beautiful indoor and outdoor pools, climbing wall, indoor running tracks, state-of-the-art exercise machines, racket ball rooms, studios... They do encourage the students to be active.

College tour

We visited this college for our daughter and it was clean, everyone was very nice " southern Hospitality at it's best. IT was clean, very organized, had great dorm rooms, nice food options, great facilities with a climbing wall, workout area, indoor and outdoor pool and many other options. Would recommend checking it out,

USC Gamecocks Football game a blast!

This football game was so fun and exciting. Smoke and alcohol free event with lots of energy! We loved it!

2019-05-27 14:21:40

Beautiful campus!

The campus is very beautiful! It doesn't matter if you are a student or just a visitor, it is certainly worth a visit while in Columbia. The Horseshoe area is very nice!

2019-05-12 16:47:33

Beautiful Campus!

I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the campus is. Loved the Horseshoe area and the oldest library. Felt like I was back in time. Got a great walking workout viewing the whole campus.

2019-04-14 15:50:08

We really liked this college

What a beautiful campus. Great friendly students and faculty. Definitely on the list for a future application for our son. It is in the heart of downtown Columbia and is very nice.

2019-04-06 23:46:23

Missing something

The campus itself was very pretty. We were there just two days after a student was murdered, so there was a definitely somber feeling around campus. It was a quiet, beautiful quad, but it lacked the charm of some of the other campuses we've visited (University of Mississippi, LSU).

2019-02-27 23:03:00

Beautiful Campus

This is a exceptionally beautiful campus with so many historic buildings and many new modern building... the wonderful Horseshoe area in the center of the campus is so cool. Take the time to spend a few hours enjoying this great campus.

2019-02-25 12:26:38

See the campus

We had fun walking the campus of this lovely university. Finding Cocky the statue brought us to the historic portion of the campus. The Horseshoe area is lovely and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Even when you are in your sixties, seeing college campuses is still a great stop.

2019-01-16 11:11:03

Clemson tiger alumni

Being a Clemson alumni I'm not chicken fan recently the tigers have feasted on the yard birds. All universities go if you can't go to Clemson it's okay. The football team sucks....

2018-12-14 16:01:31

Beat Clemson!

Our student is in love with this campus, and so are we. Historical yet modern, with a sense of academic gravitas, but also a playfulness.

2018-12-08 22:15:26

Must stop college town

I wish I was in college again. What a great campus with so much history. Being from the North, it bothered me knowing the buildings were built by slaves. Seeing the slave quarters behind the President's house was humbling. The buildings and campus are gorgeous. The Horseshoe section of the campus is on the National Register of Historic Places. Worth a visit! The student employees were so pleasant, helpful, and proud of their school. They had pride and were more than aware of how fortunate they were to be part of the student body.

2018-11-09 15:25:10

Beautiful campus

My husband and I drove through the campus in the middle of Columbia and wished we were back in school! What a nice campus. There seem to be lots of housing and parking nearby. The Grek Village looks awesome!

2018-11-06 14:18:12

Beautiful campus in early November

First visit to USC. We walked campus with an alum, who pointed out places of interest. It was interesting (to a Yankee) from an historical perspective. Lots of plaques describing events that took place, so it was quite informative. Campus was quiet in the morning on an away-game football Saturday.

2018-11-02 12:40:16

Best Tailgate / Football Game Ever

My son is a Freshman at USC and we attended our first tailgate and football game October 26 vs. Tennessee. I was surprised at how easy it was to find a parking lot to pay on the spot and just set up our tailgate. The stadium is amazing and the team spirit of students and alumnae was contagious. We can't wait to do it again!

2018-11-01 16:19:08

Great statium but cold night game

Visiting from out of town for the first SC game against TN and they won. Yeah. However, it was a night game and 50 degrees. Great seats on 50 yard line but in upper section and caught the wind. But the stadium is nice and the crowd was great. I would love to come back to an afternoon game.

2018-10-31 13:13:19

Beautiful Campus

Every time I visit USC I find more things to love about the college and surrounding areas. Lots of place to eat, historical places to visit and very friendly staff and students.

2018-10-22 14:01:38

Parents Weekend in October 5th - 7th

The game was amazing even though it rained and they stopped the game due to lightning. We ended up watching it on a big screen at 1801! Gamecocks Won! It was truly a great experience.

2018-10-12 12:54:21

Beautiful campus

If you are visiting Columbia, the USC campus definitely is worth a visit. The landscaping around the central Horseshoe is beautiful.

Where football coaches go to die

If you're not familiar with the well known losing tradition of Lamecock football, then by all means go enjoy the long suffering fans of this Coaches " End of Career " Job..

2018-09-24 17:35:33

Attended football game

I graduated from USC and love my gamecocks, even though we lost to UGA, loved being at Williams Brice stadium and in that great enviroment. Its always a party in Columbia

Université génial

Très grande université. Nous avons visité dans l'été, et il est très beau. Nous avons marché toute la campus. Super pour prendre des photos, étudier, et passe temps avec amis. Nous avons vu fontaines belles, un piscine, et un grand stade. Endroit super a visite.

2018-08-28 12:31:55

Beautiful campus!

Beautiful campus! Great location in the middle of the city with easy access to everything around. Parking a little tough during the school year but easy enough to walk around if needed.

2018-08-08 17:19:21

Nice campus in center of city

Large football stadium and rivalry. Both kids attended, dorms average classes were good. They have a famous international business school.

2018-07-30 21:09:36

Beautiful campus, super nice people

We enjoyed our tour of the campus although our guide could have talked a bit less and shown a big more. We did however love the campus - it is beautiful.

2018-07-10 17:15:41

FOREVER TO THEE

Excellent campus, excellent education, excellent people. Can't say enough about what's going on at this university and how nice it has been to come back and pay a visit.

2018-07-10 14:59:56

Great University

I am a graduate of the Univ of SC and have been attending sports and alumni events for years. The sports' venues are fun and exciting to attend. Academics and the campuus have improved immensely. The Alumni Assn does a great job of keeping us involved. I highly reccomend this school.

2018-07-02 11:15:42

Lovely and historic

To be a huge SEC school, we found USC to be absolutely lovely. It was a surprise! Make sure to visit the Horseshoe and make time to look around Greene street.

Wish I Never Had to Leave

The University of South Carolina was my home for 3.5 years as an undergraduate college student. They were some of the best years of my life, and I wish I never had to leave. Here are some things I recommend doing should you visit USC: 1. Go to the Horseshoe. It was the original campus and is beautifully preserved and looks essentially the same today as it did in 1801 when the school was founded. 2. Check out Russell House. The bookstore is there, and now a full service Chik-fil-a 3. Make your way to the new Darla Moore School of Business. The building is stunning both inside and out, and is easily one of the nicest buildings I've been in. 4. If possible, go experience a Gamecock sports game. I would recommend football, because the atmosphere rivals even the most passionate of professional fan bases, and there is absolutely nothing better.

2018-05-17 13:54:25

Great University, Great Sports too!

My daughter just graduated Summa Cum Laude from the USC Honors College with a BA in Psychology, Minors in Sociology and Women and Gender Studies, as well as with Leadership Distinction. She loved her time there, and I feel like the school took great care of her while she attended. The campus is beautiful. Colonial Life arena and Willy B are great places to take in a game. The whole community is centered around the school, it seems. If you can, send your children there for a great education and a great experience.

2018-04-28 21:56:08

College tour

We took the day to walk around this beautiful campus. Loved the horseshoe! The campus is large and kind of spread out but there are plenty of green spaces to check out and relax. The football stadium is amazing!!

2018-04-20 03:50:27

Terrible Football Team

Going to their Games is like Pulling teeth. The stadium itself is low budget and unwelcoming. The staff that work the games are beyond unhelpful and rude. Then to top it off the team itself acts like the laziest squad that ever existed. Waste of time unless you go to drink and eat cheap stuff while watching Cocks get Destroyed " sounds awful I know "

2018-04-18 13:50:03

Beautiful new law school

I visited the USC Law School for a conference and was amazed by the incredible new building. Although brand new, the law school manages to blend into the historical character of USC and the surrounding area.

2018-04-09 22:12:47

Best School in South

Amazing campus, education and college life mixed with opportunity and educational excellence from professors and students alike.

2018-04-09 13:46:54

Beautiful urban campus!

Was here for a campus visit for daughters who are looking at colleges. The campus is beautiful, and though downtown, you don't feel like you're in the middle of a large city. Our tour guide gave an excellent tour.

2018-04-01 11:52:57

Beautiful Historic Campus

We spent some time walking around the horseshoe of the campus, stopped at the visitor center, bookstore, and library. The campus is historic and worth the time to see.

2018-03-16 13:09:40

Absolutely beautiful!

This was my second visit to the University of South Carolina. The first time, I visited and toured with my daughter, and we thoroughly enjoyed the tour and tour guide! This visit I was able to roam on my own. It is spring and the campus is blooming - perfect time to see it! The people are very nice, but be prepared to walk to see everything - it is VERY spread out.

2018-02-06 11:57:30

Campus Tour

The tour that I took that I am going to be reviewing is my tour of the University of South Carolina's campus. This tour is one that had a significant impact on me and was one that made a lasting impression on me. Not only was the service good, but the employees did their job in a way that made the tour that much more enjoyable. This tour is one that after the experience I had, I would take again and would recommend to others to take as well. This University has so much history to it, that without this tour I'm not sure I would have ever learned about anywhere else. On this tour, the most used mode of transportation is walking. For the most of my tour, anywhere we went we got there by walking. The only other form of transportation we used was a bus if we were going somewhere outside the middle of campus. I believe that walking is the best mode of transportation for a tour like this because it gives you a real feel for the campus and gets you up close and personal with everything that it has to offer. It gives you the chance to go inside the buildings, to interact with the students and anyone else who is walking around. It gave a very authentic look into how the university runs on a day to day basis. When we took the bus to places farther out on the campus, they were short rides, and they were fun. The bus drivers made sure that everyone had a seat and were ready to go, and during the ride, the tour guides were at the front telling you about things you passed and answering any questions that people may have had. The bus would take you to wherever on the campus your group was going, and once you were finished there, they would take you back to where the tour started. One employee that I interacted with was my student tour guide. Her job was to show my group around the campus, tell us what buildings were, the history, and to answer any questions that we had about what we saw, or what we wanted to know about the university as a whole. She answered every question that she was asked, she never said " I don't know ". If there was a question asked she didn't know the answer to, she would always as another tour guide when we passed them, or she would look it up. She was very knowledgeable about the campus, the history, and anything else that we threw at her. She did her job exceedingly well, and because of her my tour was that much better of an experience. This tour had a significant impact on me. Being an out of state student, I had never been on this campus, I knew nothing about the school or its history, and because of this tour, I got to be a part of this university for a day. It is because of this tour and the people running it that I chose to come to Carolina for school. Out of all the schools I toured, this one felt the most like home the second that the tour began. This tour also impacts the local area by bringing in more out of town or out of state people. This is bringing in a larger population to the university and to Columbia. If I wouldn't have taken this tour, I'm not sure that I would have come here for school and that would have been a missed opportunity. This campus and everything around it is amazing and I have this tour to thank for showing this to me. My tour of the University of South Carolina campus is one that will have a lasting impact in my mind. The service that was provided, the staff that helped make this experience one that I would want to do again and everything that came along with it. This tour is one that I would recommend to any one who is looking into either going to USC for school, who aren't sure where they want to go for school, or for someone who wants to learn about this university no matter if they plan to come here later or not.

Beautiful quad with lots of history

I have visited the horseshoe (I call it the quad) in summer and now late December. What remains the same are the majestic oaks and the beautiful architecture in these very old buildings. We enjoyed having the place to ourselves and reading the historical markers in front of each building. Several were also decorated for the holidays, so that was fun. USC seems like a great place to get an education, but a bit big for my taste. Luckily I'm not in the market for choosing a college!!

2017-12-01 20:09:54

USC vs Florida Gators

Awesome fun @ the game with my high school friend Bob from NC. The Gamecocks took the Gators behind the woodshed.

2016-09-27 04:49:52

Great Campus

I was there visiting the campus of USC, as a student form germany on a trip in the US. Its such a nice campus! Can't compare it with any other campus i've seen.

2016-08-13 18:21:00

Hail Carolina!

Proud graduate of USC... Gamecock Alumni since 1989. A walk around campus reminiscing about the good ol' days! My heart bleeds Garnet and Black and so does the hearts of my entire family. One of the best colleges nationally and internationally for business, law, and a whole lot more. Hail Carolina... Go Cocks!!

2016-06-14 22:59:06

SEC FAN

I'm not a USC fan. We were up from Alabama on. Business and thought it would be nice to go see the stadium. It turned into a nice evening stroll. The area around the stadium is so beautiful and interesting. It's worth a look.

2015-06-15 23:58:02

USC Baseball Camp

My son has come from AL for the past 5 years to attend this camp. This is a wonderfully run camp. The adult to player ratio is great. Lots of small group work and practical fundamentals. Play pick up games each day which the boys love! I'd recommend this to anyone.

2014-07-16 15:12:30

The Horseshoe is historic, beautiful, and intriguing

No tour of the University of South Carolina's main campus in Columbia can be considered complete without a visit to the Horseshoe, the University's historic core and visual centerpiece. I know this beautiful place quite well, having walked across or otherwise used and enjoyed it thousands of times during the past 40+ years. It's fun to take out-of-town guests there and watch their reaction as the see it for the first time. " Wow! " they say, " It's even prettier than the pictures! " The trees are impressive, that's for sure. Look carefully at the trunks of these giant hardwoods and you'll see that some of them bear name plates identifying them as living memorials to distinguished professors. As you stroll the brick walkways crisscrossing the Horseshoe, read some of the inscriptions on the bricks. You're sure to find some interesting ones. Read the plaque in front of the President's House and imagine what it was like back in September 1987 when Pope John Paul II visited the Horseshoe and talked to students and faculty on that very spot. (I was there, and the sight of the " Popemobile " cruising down College Street, crossing Sumter, and circuiting the Horseshoe is something I'll never forget.) Whatever else it may be, the Horseshoe is a great place for people watching. You'll normally see students engaged in various and sundry activities, such as tossing a Frisbee, chatting with friends, napping on a blanket, loitering on a bench, or even (gasp!) studying.

2011-11-28 21:29:32

Williams Brice stadium

This is a great place to see an SEC football game.

2016-09-13 20:45:03

Stunning campus

Visited South Carolina and Clemson campuses and this was the better of the two. Much better, actually. More amenities nearby, too. Went to the Zoo afterwards. Everyone is so friendly.

2015-07-02 13:09:24

USC! USC!

Visited the Horseshoe on a late Saturday evening to just enjoy some shade and some relaxation! The area of the campus is beautiful and has lots of history and historical buildings. We couldn't pass up some photo taking because of the beauty of the area. A peaceful area to spend some time at.

2017-04-27 13:56:35

Dumpy & Old Location & City

visited USC area and thought we'd see what the campus and sounding area was like, wow what a trashy & rundown city. The downtown area where the university is located is infested with homeless people. During our time there was some rain and the streets flooded, heard that this is a common occurrence due to old infrastructure and poor city planning. Not a place to visit even if you don't have nothing to do

2014-12-15 14:03:14

Always fun to return to college town

Daughter graduated from USC a couple of years ago and while she was there we got in a habit of attending USC baseball. Their new stadium (so to speak) is modern and easy to attend. Good access for those with a physical challenge. Fun baseball food available. We look forward to attending a basketball game later this season.

2013-11-07 10:07:27

GOOOOOO GAMECOCKS

This is a beautiful campus to visit in the fall! The historic Horseshoe is a beautiful and bustling campus hub during the day! The Thomas Cooper Library is a great place to read up on some SC history.

2014-12-12 21:33:13

gorgeous campus

The University of South Carolina's main campus in Columbia is beautiful. Start in The Horseshoe and you can wind your way through campus and explore the old buildings and the hidden gardens. Very good way to spend an hour!

2015-07-07 21:19:00

Freshman orientation

Had great time at freshman orientation! Coming from Massachusetts its very different, although exactly what my daughter was looking for. Warm, Fun high energy and socially involved and big time football! Of course studies! She is so psyched to be a gamecock and we're looking forward to parent's weekend to take in a game. GO COCK'S (by the way her twin brother was thrown out of class from wearing the cocks shirt she bought him :)) She'll be there for Pillars in July!

2014-12-29 18:50:18

So Underrated!!!!

Not sure why this school is so underratedIt has a beautiful campus and offers so much for the students. The business school is going to continue to get national rankings as they make great progress. Football is awesome in the fall, but it is just a part of this college experience.

2015-07-20 00:25:45

USC

You're average mega college. Lots of students, buildings, and housing. Football is huge around here and over rated. Unless you or your child plans on attending or you are a collage football nut with undying loyalty no matter how badly they play, there is nothing much to see here. Go to the zoo. At least you'll get your money's worth.

2017-04-10 21:12:54

Best Kept University Secret in the South; maybe the Nation

What can I say other than make sure you visit, take in the community, and consider the value proposition of the University of South Carolina? This is one of the most important personal and economic decisions you will make. Be sure and test the complete range of academic and student life experiences of the Gamecocks.

2013-10-10 20:25:31

THE REAL USC

Daughter is a senior there. Great experience for us and a great education for her. football games are pretty entertaining as well.

2017-04-11 10:07:41

My Alma Mater

Everything about USC is top notch. If you visit there is so much to do that you may need more time than you think. It is the home of champions, from women's basketball to baseball to equestrian and track and field. It has many cultural stops, including theater-in-the-round in Longstreet Theatre, concerts at the Colonial Life Arena and Broadway shows at the Koger Center.

2013-11-25 19:53:51

Great crowd control and excellent viewing

Williams-Brice is a really well designed stadium, I've been on completely sold out days (85, 000 strong) and didn't feel cramped or uncomfortable. When the game was over the crowd flushes out quickly and very smoothly. Each corner has spiral ramps that make every floor handicap accessible. The only terrible negative is true of downtown Columbia in general, that there is just not enough parking. Forget parking in the stadium lot, the few spots there are locked up by legacies and season ticket holders. Arrive early because you will have to park in any of the local businesses that sell their parking spots on game days and walk (and walk and walk) to the stadium.

2015-07-04 21:01:49

New Gamecock parent

Like the campus, like the academics, athletics, and especially the Southern hospitality! We are proud to have an incoming freshman and look forward to learning more about Columbia.

Gorgeous campus... who knew? Great picnic spot!

Beautiful grounds with massive green areas great for bringing your own picnic and even a football to throw around at the " Horseshoe ". Really nice library and bookstores. I say WHO KNEW because I have always been a Clemson girl as is my husband who graduated from there. But, our son ended up at USC as Clemson did not have his major and we were SHOCKED to find out just how great USC is. Our son really likes his professors and there are a lot of options for food, campus life, etc.

Better than I expected

My son goes to school here. At first I was disappointed he chose USC because I went to another South Carolina school (no, not Clemson). I was pleasantly surprised to see how much USC has to offer in terms of a variety of experiences and depth of education. In the end, I am glad to know how much of a GREAT education he has received for the money. He is looking forward to attending grad school, and USC has prepared him well. USC has a huge, beautiful campus and an impressive football stadium to visit. I have no regrets sending him to USC.

incredibile

First College Tour

Our boys were enthralled before entering the building. Beautiful grounds and bustling campus. Our student / tour guide was excellent and learned a lot about the school. She was a wealth of information. You do have to cross busy streets which is concerning but overall positive visit.

Gamecock born and bred. Grew up on the campus, went to school there. Got my doctorate there. Go COCKS

Freshman Year USC for Northern Family

University of South Carolina has been a great fit for our son. We are a family from the Boston area. The school has been supportive and helpful from the application process to the financial advice we needed. As I sit in our hotel lobby getting ready to pick him up after his freshman year I can say I am so happy with his choice of USC. GO COCKS! The campus is big and part of the capital city of Columbia. Our son has shown us around a number of times now. The academic buildings were busy. Over the course of the year he has studied in the library the most. The students are busy with plenty to do both academically and with campus life. The campus itself is beautiful to walk around and tour. There are guided tours run by students. You will see a lot of green space and historical landmarks right on campus and the adjacent city streets. This is a big athletic school. There is plenty of college athletics to watch and or take part in as a student. We went to the Gamecocks vs Clemson football game Thanksgiving weekend. This was an incredible experience. The tailgating was huge. There were set ups with lots of music, food and drinks. Our son is in a fraternity. Their party was big. They had a tent, dj (some frat brother), and even a little food. The game was 85, 000 fans split between both teams. So much fun to watch. Better than an NFL game. Over the course of a year and a half now we have traveled here 5 times. The people of Columbia SC and The University of South Carolina have proven themselves to be friendly, helpful and gracious. My wife and I are touring the State House today. Looks beautiful from the street. A Northern Gamecock Father Go Cocks!

Nice, but not worth a special trip

USC Campus is pretty offering many buildings that are of historic significance. The Horseshoe is the primary point of interest at the campus. Generally speaking the campus is pretty and a nice place to take a walk, but certainly not a tourist destination.

Best College!

Everything was perfect! Great tour and excited my son will be a Gamecock in August! We toured the campus on Monday, visited the book store and enjoyed seeing all the great things happening at the University of South Carolina!

Great All Around University

My daughter graduated from USC and we couldn't be happier with this institution. Not only does it provide a great, well-rounded education, but the overall atmosphere and activities are great. Make a day of football (starting with the tail gating) or great basketball (currently in the Final 4 - let's see how far they can go.) Columbia is a great city with access to the coast as well as the mountains.

Goooo Cocks!

This is a beautiful campus. The Horseshoe has lots of old trees with plenty of shade. There are beautiful gardens all around. It has a true southern charm.

Historic campus in beautiful setting

The university has many historic 1800s buildings, especially around the Old Horseshoe, in a beautiful setting. There are many cultural events taking place, as well as sports. We toured the campus and the students were very helpful to tourists who seemed lost at times. Maps of the college are available and useful. The McKissick Museum is an interesting 1940s building with a small collection. When we visited there were exhibits of WW I propaganda and South Carolina artists. This is definitely worth a stop while in Columbia.

Nice campus

After a tour of the South Carolina State House downtown Columbia, I was directed to the McKenzie museum and strolled through the " horseshoe " part of campus. It was a lovely spring day and students had hung up rope hammocks in the trees and were relaxing. Loved the ambiance and it was great fun to congratulate the happy students on the Gamecocks recent win over Duke in the NCAA tournament! The museum was small but nice.

University of South Carolina

Visited Williams-Brice Stadium to cheer on my Gamecocks! Television does not even begin to show the true experience!

Very pretty school

Great school, gorgeous grounds, PLENTY of people around. The horseshoe is gorgeous and great for relaxing in between classes or for taking the dogs out for an afternoon in the sun!

Typical College campus

There wasn't anything particularly attractive about this campus. It was nicer than some and not as beautiful as others. I was in Columbia for a conference and wanted to see what it was like. My one big surprise is how far from the campus the football stadium is located. I really liked the train cars at the stadium and I could see how fun a game there would be. I'm sure it is much less crowded than a stadium located on campus. But that still seems odd to me.

Good school, REALLY big

The campus was very large but the students could not have been friendly. Parts of the campus had that old Southern charm about it and other parts were very modern. The campus was buzzing with students engaged in various activities. The career placement center was impressive, as was the main dining room. The school has lots to offer but admittedly our guide said it could take a good 20 minutes to walk from one end of the campus to the other. I believe they also have buses to take the students from campus to downtown shopping areas making it easy for the kids to get around.

Ackward city campus

Thought this university campus has an old area which is called the " Horseshoe ", there isn't that much to see. You can do it in about 1 / 2 hour. Difficult to find parking.

Great Baseball

I was surprised with how small of a campus it is. The historic horseshoe area is nice, but as far as college campuses go, it was pretty average. Usually I try to walk into the visitor's center and find out if there are any tours going on that I can tag along with. I already finished college, so I'm not a prospective student, and never feel comfortable signing up for a tour in advance. But South Carolina is quite stingy about walk-in visitors and they will only let you on a tour if someone else scheduled for that tour doesn't show up. I signed up for a waiting list and actually did get on a tour, but this is just a warning for you. If you want to take a guided tour, make sure you sign up in advance. The tour is very heavily geared toward prospective students, but I expect that. I still got to learn a lot about the university, and our tour guide was one of the best ones I've had on any college campus. Very engaging and friendly and knowledgeable. My true purpose in being here was to see my own team play the Gamecocks in a baseball weekend series. I was so impressed with everything about Gamecock baseball! Carolina Stadium is truly like a minor league park. I can't count the number of times a Gamecock fan came up to me to welcome me to Columbia, thank me for being there, tell me they're glad to have us in the SEC, and just talk to me about baseball. All three nights, the people I sat next to talked to me about baseball and we exchanged stories about our teams and caught each other up on the strengths and weaknesses of each of the players. I have been going to watch my team play at other universities for a long time, and I can say without a doubt that Carolina fans are the nicest and most knowledgeable baseball fans that I have met. They fill their large stadium pretty full. Truly a great experience for a visiting fan, and it made a Gamecock fan out of me; I'll root for them if they're not playing my team. ;) If it was closer, I'd go more often! The parking shuttle is great and efficient. Programs and scorecards were free.

Freshman Orientation

Fantastic learning opportunity led by enthusiastic students so we could prepare for freshman year. Campus is beautifully maintained with brick walkways and blooming trees. Professors are proud of their University and programs. Cafeteria and bookstore staff are eager to assist.

USC Baseball is Awesome

Had a great Sunday afternoon watching USC play Brown. The stadium is perfect and rivals anything in college baseball. You would have to try very hard to find a bad seat. The baseball team is great and plays well for the home crowd awesome.

Top knotch university

We took the extended campus tour, had lunch on campus, spoke to several students, and spoke with a financial aid and faculty advisor. They were all very friendly and informative. It helped my daughter get one step closer to choosing a college. The tour is about 2 hours long, so comfortable shoes are a requirement. SC weather is generally mild, but during winter and early spring, it can get rather temperamental. If you go during a day that the Top of Carolina restaurant is open I would suggest going to have lunch there. It is a rotating restaurant that allows a panoramic view of the entire city of Columbia. Check their schedule, as they are not open regularly. There are also many attractions and other restaurants nearby, so you can spend a day or a week exploring.

USC School Of Music

In June for the past 14 years the School of music has hosted The Southeastern Piano Festival and Arthur Fraser International Piano Competition. This is a week long series of performance, master classes, as well as the competition itself. Pianists from the age of 13 through 18 from around the USA submit their performances by cd for a blind selection that are culled down to 20 lucky performers. The week is opened on the Sunday with a spectacular event which is hosted by Marina Lomazov creator and artistic director with Joseph Rackers program director of the festival. They with other members of the faculty open with a spectacular extravaganza which sets the stage for all of the ensuing weeks events. The weeks master classes by world renowned performers which are all open to the public. These artists also give evening solos at various locations around the city of Columbia. Friday is the performance day for all competitors. In front of a panel of eminent judges, each student performs two pieces one with the accompaniment of a second piano. This all day affair starts at 10 am and continues through 9.30 pm when the judges make their selections. Saturday is the winners concert. another amazing evening with prize winners from all levels, This is really a stupendous week to remember and should not be missed. The coming year of 2017 is the 15th in the series and is planned to break all records.
