Movie Magic at the mall
While out shopping we decided to take in a matinee on a Tuesday! This is the cheap day!For just over 12 dollars we saw a great Hollywood movie!Clean theatres with comfy seats and the average movie eats....
Great nite out for a movie!
Modern theatre with great concession with typical movie food. There have been recent reports of vermin in theatres due to construction! But we did not see anything Good experience enjoyed movie and snacks!
Modern Cinema
The theater complex is now called the Cineplex Scotia Bank complex. There are 10-12 modern theaters with 3d and Imax movies.
Pretty average and certainly nothing very memorable
Just a fairly good selection. Nothing outstanding but at least it has an Imax screen and underground parking. They recently renovated but didnt really do anything to improve seating for the handicapped. My Dad is in a wheelchair and we still have to sit almost in the front row to get a handicap seating area. There should be another option near the rear of the seating auditorium.
Glad I had my son with me to explain the procedures of a movie night in St. John's
On my recent visit my son took me to a movie. I was quite surprised to see the sheer numbers of folks out to view a movie. We had to line up to purchase a ticket, then another line for the popcorn. Nothing strange right? Well, how about a line up right out of the theatre and line-up areas for line-ups! This is a big complex and we went an hour early for the early evening show and the theatre was packed for a 4th week movie. I can see that folks in St. John's like their movies. The place was alive with families, dates, friends and folks were interacting and having fun. So, if you want to take in a movie in St. John's you will need to go early and then enjoy the buzz of the crowd. No last minute dash to show time or you will be disappointed.
Typical Movie Theature, Overpriced crap
Make no wonder these places enforce the ole " No outside food " rule.. otherwise they would never sell a single kernal.. Like where elsein the universe are thay able to sell 5 cents of popcorn for 20 bucks! Here's a strike against you Empire!!! And don't forget the 80 cent flat softrink for four bucks! I remember they once provided you with free popcorn spice toppings... I guess the bean counters caught on to this.. no their charging a buck for that and another buck if you want butter on your popcorn.... really.... you would think the $30 you stole from me for the movie tickets would have been enough... but no... Easily a $60 evening for two!
More of the same
70$ for a 3D movie for a family of 3 (which included popcorn of course). Same as every other theatre, except it is in the mall and next to a small arcade.
If you want to see a movie while in St. John's
Empire Studio 12 Theatres only a few minutes from downtown. 12 screens so lots of variety. Very friendly staff.
Got bored, went to a movie
The family and I were camping and it rained all day so we decided to go see a movie, The seating is so comfortable, very clean, even the washrooms. My only complaint is all the commercials, we got there 6:45 our movie stared at 7, we expected to sit through 15 mins of advertisement but it was 40 mins in total. I don't mind watching movie previews but I don't like watching commercials. Seemed like forever before the movie started.
Yet another cinema complex
There is nothing worth seeing here, folks. It's just another overpriced cinema complex. On a weekend evening expect to see hundreds of teens and expect to wait a long time to spend your $25 - 50 on popcorn and drinks. It's pathetic that a cinema is in Tripadvisor. StJohn's has a lot more to offer.
Clean, quiet and well organized
We went recently to see The Great Gatsby in 3D. The whole experience was good. The movie was good, the 3D effect was wonderful and the service was great. I had bought tickets online and one of party failed to show. No problem, an immediate refund from the service desk.
Well located.
Bored on SUnday night and decided to go for a movie. The ovie was boring but the cinema and location was great. Was very busy for a Sunday night. Again if you feel lonely while in St John's go for a movie. Great place, great rooms and great popcorn G
Sufficient for its intended purpose
Positives +cheap nights Tues. nights +special rate for seniors +lots of choice of movies +lots of washrooms and they are fairly clean Negatives -food is expensive and very slow -3d is too expensive -insensitivity to perfume / cologne problems (should have a policy about scents) -seats are too close to each other and uncomfortable But once the movie starts all the negatives are forgotten!
Good night
Bathrooms clean. Pop corn is too expensive. Movies are always current. chairs Great. 3 D movies good, but costly. Clean movie areas. Staff for the most polite
Shows were great
The theatre's were very clean, shows started on time, the food was good but very over priced. The staff were very curteous and available to give us directions.
MUN Film Society
Every Thursday evening during the fall and winter semester the Memorial University Film Society has a single showing of films that you are unlikely to see in Newfoundland otherwise. Ticket sales start at six for a seven o'clock showing. First come first served. I have seen a lot of great films thanks to the society. Check it out.
Love going to the movies
Always a good selection of movies on hand with mutliple times for most popular movies playing at the time. If your bringining kids out it's pretty easy to blow a whole afternoon with the arcade, mini golf and movie. Never had a issue getting a good seat just make sure you go alittle earlier then others and if you want something to east be prepared to stand in a line up for 10 minutes on a weekend.
nice movie theatre
the likes were fast pace staff at lobby and plenty of parking in garage. dislikes, the concessions lines can be very long so be patient. the staff are very friendly and seating can be a problem if your late... so be early.
Modern Cinema
I quite like the Empire Studio cinema in the Avalon Mall and think it's very modern with comfortable seats and a lot of theaters. They have big bathrooms and two concession lines. My only complaint is that both concession lines don't serve the same food so you have to know what you want in advance and pick that line (which isn't a great idea if you want one thing and the people you're with want another as the lines move at different rates). The pretzels aren't great and are kind of rubbery but the popcorn is good (if you like a lot of salt). Like most concession stands, everything is overpriced and not very healthy but that's par for the course. The cinema, however, is much better than expected and one of the nicer ones I've been to in North America.
