Magical!

We were very pleased with our stay at Lakeside! Very well managed by Mark who is always available if something is needed or a helping hand is in order! He also makes sure the facilities are clean and as well as the grounds and maintains the lovely gardens so beautifully! We know Salt Spring well and used to come with our kids and now our kids and grandkids! We have stayed at other places on Salt Spring and have no complaints but this is definitely the kid friendliest place on the island... and so much fun for the adults who accompany them... lol! Our grandkids had such a great time making new friends in a safe environment and we all enjoyed swimming, boating, fishing, etc. The lake is lovely to swim in and the weather superb! The fire pit is a big plus and we roasted marshmallows and made smores every night... so many fond memories! We plan to return next summer... and hopefully many many more to come! Though rustic and quite basic it is paradise to us...

Nature's paradise!

This place is a fave, and I love returning. It's very romantic for couples. Chopping wood, building a fire, and sitting on a blanket lakefront. It is super charming. Don't expect much, and you will be very pleased. It's not about the comforts of the amenities, it's about being immersed in nature, and playing outside like when you were a kid. The cabins are very rustic. Very old. Nothing updated. It's really like camping indoors. If you came to stare at the walls, you will be disappointed. But if you came to enjoy the great outdoors, this the place. The setting and atmosphere are incredible. The cabins are right on the lake. The swimming is very inviting. Warm water in summer. They provide kayaks and paddle boards. Where else can you find a resort like place for $65 a night? The owner is super friendly. The other guests are very laid back. It's a super relaxing, great outdoors holiday. And easy grocery shopping and movie theatre nearby. I think the magic of the place IS the fact that the owner has NOT updated the cabins: it would raise the price, attract a fussier crowd, and not encourage you to be outside as much. This place really makes the whole family want to be outside enjoying the lovely gardens and lake. Who wants to holiday with fussy crowds who are afraid of spiders? This is glamping afterall. I love this place, will keep returning, don't ever change it!

A lovely place

I stayed here with my 3 kids and had a great time. The owner was extremely kind and helpful. We had a fun time in the cabins and loved swimming in the lake. The kids really enjoyed jumping off the dock. It was a fun place to stay!

Always such a pleasure

A good friend brought my young children along with her and hers many years ago for a summer vacation. I started coming with the kids our dog and the camper. Over the years while attending every year since I have left the camper and we stay in a cabana. Now we are bringing our grandchildren. I love the rustic, minimalist, zero stress atmosphere. The grounds are beautiful. The lake is amazing. One of my favorite times is slipping out early in the morning for a canoe ride. Blissful! We enjoy relaxing and floating on the lake while watching young children play in the shallow water and build in the sand. We stay for 7-10 days (every year) and take a trip into Ganges to enjoy the Market, local shopping and artisans. On this trip we make a stop at the Fish Market for our annual crab feast. Family, friends, great food.... fantastic wine. This is a holiday I look forward to each year... I wouldn't miss it for anything :)

Our favourite place to visit!

We have been coming to Lakeside Gardens for 25 years. My children looked, and still do, forward to our 10 day stay. The cabanas are clean, comfortable, and in good repair. We love the atmosphere created by Mark and Deb and appreciated by the many long time customers that return every year. Friendships have been formed and maintained over the years. We are starting on the next generation of summers at the lake. Thank you Mark and Deb for sharing your beautiful property.

Worst place ever!!

We stayed there 2 years ago for a family reunion along with cousins. The cabins were rundown, dirty and the entire place was completely neglected! Way overpriced for what they offer. The term " Rustic " is a huge understatement!! Will NEVER stay there again and wouldn't recommend to my worst enemy!! Find the other reviews rather suspect, considering what we encountered.

A truly, magical place!

We spent 4 or 5 magical two day getaways at this special place in 2016. The cabanas are close to the water, fully equipped and the views are spectacular. Everyone is friendly and respectful, no loud noise to contend with. Boats are available to use on the beautiful lake. Everything is very clean, well maintained at the resort. It is a one-of-a-kind beautiful getaway on a remarkable island.

Every summer

My family and I try to make it to " the Cabana's " every summer. They're affordable, relaxing and a few notches above tenting it. Mark is accommodating and unobtrusive. We've also stayed in the cabins which are great as well but obviously, a little more expensive. My only issue is charging for the boat usage. I think it would be nice to consider it a free of charge benefit to guests.

The most amazing place

This place is truly magical! Not very often we can afford a family get away but here you can. It surprised me for the price we paid, its rustic but perfect. We absolutely will be back for years to come! Thank you, it's a true gem on saltspring island!

A good choice!

We stayed there for 4 days and it was a pleasant experience. The cabin (# 1) offered a decent view of the lake. The lawn area was great for kids to burn off energy and there are swings for the kids too. There are boats and a small dock for the kids to fish from. The cabin was small, but clean. I don't think you'd be disappointed.

A Total Gem

We have been going to Lakeside for 8 summers now. Found it by luck and we have never looked back. We have stayed in both the Cabanas and the Cottages, and the Cabanas are by far our favorite. We get there and all our big city stress disappears.

Always my choice!

This time we came as a family and we booked one of the cottages. Well, what a treat! The cottage was so charming we did not want to leave during the day! The cottage was built with care and it shows in the quality of the workmanship, it was also spotless and it came equipped with all the kitchen utensils to prepare family dinners (including toaster, teapot, coffee maker, etc.) entertain the family (loads of boardgames and even a tv with dvd capabilities), and, as if things weren't perfect already, we were able to buy firewood for an odd cold night at the lake. WE LOVED the non-smoking policy! When the weather got better we of course took advantage of the boats and canoe rentals, which are a must, and the ping ping tables. Mark is an extraordinary host and his love for the property shows: the lawns are perfectly maintained, the leaves are cleared regularly, there's even an outside lounge to relax and enjoy that magical view of the lake for which Lakeside Gardens is characteristic. During this trip, we were able to see Canada geese, ducks, woodpeckers, and many other charming birds. This place is magical, I will not stay anywhere else while in Saltspring!

Loved it! Wished we stayed longer

Lovely place! Lovely cabin, lovely area, lovely owner! Best nights sleep I've had the entire trip. Outdoor kitchen, boat rental at good rates, clean surroundings. Really nice at night as no major town or city nearby makes for great star gazing. Lake is good for fishing. Good wildlife spotting too.

SO fabulous!

I was really surprised by the loveliness of their little cabanas! They are tiny and it is a step up from camping, but they are really so sweet and comfortable. In fact, that loft bed with a window overlooking the lake was perhaps my favorite place to sleep ever! The lake is warm, boats are plentiful, kids abound - a really great place for families! We loved it.

Great Place

We stayed here during our visit to Salt Spring Island. Very warmly greeted by Mark Toole who directed us to our one room cottage for the night. The cottage was a decent place, pretty much what you might expect. Very beautiful spot, access to different boating options on the beautiful lake and a great home base for your Salt Spring adventures.

Recharge the batteries

We have been coming here twice a year with our children for many years. We even came here as a newly dating couple 15 years ago! It is heaven on earth and we adore this place. Beautiful, serene and peaceful yet more than enough to keep the kids entertained. The place is kept up wonderfully well, even the shared bathrooms. We usually stay at least a week each time and wish we could stay all year! We have our two return trips already booked this year and always book a year in advance for something to look forward to.

Have the best weekend of your life here!

Where else can you... -Wake up and see the lake right through the window by your bed -Make breakfast in your outdoor kitchen -Eat your breakfast while seeing a group of Canada geese take off -Have an energizing but private outdoor shower -Canoe around St Mary's lake -Relax by the beach -Enjoy quality time by playing board games or ping pong -Enjoy the simplicity yet well thought accomodations -Become hypnotised by the clear clusters of stars or the camp fire burning in your own fire pit Nowhere else really. This is a unique retreat for those who seek beauty, cleanliness, and good times. Yes, all of this is included in the property. The only downside is that the cabins don't have toilets, but hey, life is never perfect ;)
