Excellent B & B

A charming Victorian House with quaint rooms and a short walk to all the theatres. The breakfast is basic but the price more than compensates. The hostess Kim is a delight and very helpful. We are repeat customers and would not think of staying elsewhere.

Clean but basic

This B & B is old school basic, the way B & Bs were when they were the cheap way to travel. Basic clean facilities: shared bath and toilet facilities, no air conditioning. Just a minimal breakfast. Location on the edge of being walkable to town. The pool is a nice touch.

Great service!

We have had positive experiences on two separate occasions at this B & B... and will definitely be back again!!! The home is absolutely sumptuous; the outdoor pool is a great feature, and the rooms were beautifully appointed. A very warm and welcoming atmosphere.

I don't know why this place isn't higher in the listings

This was a great little find. It was a Fantastic price for a beautiful place. We loved the room, the porch, Kim's company and well if it was warmer, we might have loved the pool. Every time we go back to Stratford for the festival, we will go here. We were able to walk into town and do the festival play and the go out and walk back at the end of the night. Really perfect, much better than the cheap hotels in town.

Girls trip!

The owners, Brian and Kim, were AMAZING hosts! We stayed at their quaint bed and breakfast for 2 nights! It had a beautiful wrap around porch on 2 levels and a gorgeous in ground pool! The breakfast room was beautiful and set with antique dishes. The entire home was decorated in 19th century style and gave you the feeling of being whisked into the past! It was perfect for our group of nine lovely ladies!

Good Times at My Favorite B and B

Just got back from another stay at Brian and Kim's charming bed and breakfast. This time my work friends and I took over the whole place. We were happy and comfortable, whether swimming in the beautiful pool or chatting late into the night on the spacious front porch. So much value for such a reasonable price.

Wonderful, Relaxing stay!

My friend and I took a last minute trip over the Labor Day weekend, and found Arthur's Round Table on-line. First of all Kim and Brian were very gracious hosts. The Inn itself was a beautiful Victorian with very comfortable rooms. Since it was a warm weekend the pool was a bonus. I had just gotten out of the hospital, so I needed to relax, and I found it great to take a dip in the pool then take a nap in the shade by the pool. I really enjoyed sitting on the porch in the evenings with a glass of wine and cheese (Kim told me to bring wine and snacks and that we could keep them in the guest kitchen). The help yourself breakfast was great, and again, I enjoyed having coffee on the front porch in the mornings and then joining the other guests for breakfast. Stratford was a genuine surprise and I intend to go back and enjoy the things I missed on this trip. Downtown was a nice moderate walk from the B & B.

Beautiful place

My wife and I went to Arthur's Round Table in Stratford. Brian and Kim; the hosts; were warm and inviting. If you want to be in a Victorian home with period furnishings, have a fantastic breakfast at a reasonable price this is the place to go. Also the B & B has WiFi and a beautiful pool

Great little find

This was a last minute find during a busy weekend. We were glad to have found it. Kim was great company, we loved the porch, and the shared bathroom / shower was totally fine even though the place was booked. Plenty of hot water. We love these kind of places because we get to meet genuine people who live and work in the city we're visiting. Great price, great company, nice little room, beautiful pool, and ten minutes walk to everything. We will go back again next year. Last two years we stayed in a hotel. This was so much better.

Quaint, quirky

I have stayed here on two occasions, both times for 2 nights. The house is charming, but as with most old houses, it has quirks. The floors and stairs creak. The doors do not have adequate locks. Likewise, the front door always seemed to be unlocked, even late at night. The shared bathroom has a water closet (toilet) in the hall, which had no lock on the door. The shower room with double vanity sink was spacious but had inadequate lighting. The owners, Kim and Brian, seem to be very nice people. However, both times I stayed, there always seemed to be some kind of construction. Scaffolding outside the bedroom window was disconcerting. A new concrete driveway was being installed, and the vibratory compactor ran from 9 to 10 PM. One morning we found mold on the bread and bagels that are available. I like the house and owners, but lack of security made me nervous.

A warm and inviting visit!!!

My daughter and I have been coming to Stratford for 6 years to enjoy the fantastic plays and ambiance of the area. Our usual B and B is no longer in operation and this was our first time staying here. The house is gorgeous, the rooms comfortable, but my favorite places were the pool area as well as the beautiful front porch. As I sipped my coffee in the morning, on that cozy porch, I just did not want to leave!!! The hosts, Kim and Brian were warm, friendly and a wealth of information. Even though they did not serve a full breakfast, they provided a continental style breakfast that had a lot of choices. Plus it was nice to not have to be at the table at a set time, and it made our mornings much more leisurely. We will be back next year. Thanks, Kim and Brian, for making our stay so wonderful!

Comfortable stay, good value, lovely hosts

Lovely unpretentious B & B with generous sized rooms. Turn of the 19th century home with lots of character. Though a shared bathroom, the toilet is separate, which can be convenient for guests. There is also a guest kitchen on the second floor where the guest rooms are. The B & B is within walking distance of downtown, maybe 10 minutes of the Avon Theatre. During my stay I learned that many guests are repeat customers, one couple have been coming for decades. several outdoor sitting areas, including a wrap around porch, and second floor deck overlooking the gardens.

Wonderful restored house, very nice people

Our second stay with Kim and Brian - 2 nights. It's a bit far from town, but no problem once you get the hang of finding parking. We enjoyed the upstairs porch last time, didn't have one this time. Breakfast a bit skimpy, but fine for the price. Fridge and kitchenette available.

Comfortable visits

We've stayed several times at Arthur's Round Table. Kim and Brian are always friendly and welcoming, and my daughter enjoys being able to go down for breakfast when she wishes, instead of at a fixed time as in other B & Bs. The shared baths are clearly described ahead of time and we never had trouble getting into them when we wanted. My daughter loved the pool, while I enjoyed morning coffee or evening wine on the lovely wraparound porch. It was great to have a guest fridge and kitchen where we could store food, iron clothes, etc. Very importantly for us, it's an easy walk to downtown and the theaters. We look forward to our upcoming visit!

Thumbs DOWN for Arthur's Round Table

The bottom line: we won't return The one positive: we enjoyed sitting on the porch (although we weren't entirely sure if we were welcome to do so; very little was explained to us.) The streetscape was beautiful. mattress: hard food: abysmal, all cheap store bought bread, bagels, muffins, boxed cereals. A nod to health with oranges, bananas, apples on table. The only protein source was a pink, sweetened yogurt. service: we weren't told how to contact owners during our stay; when questions came up, we were on our own. We bought items for our second day breakfast from the farmers market, including cheese. Mid afternoon, my husband took a bagel from the dining room to have with some of our purchased cheese. He was chastised by the owner and told that the bagels were only for breakfast. This marred any sense of welcome that we felt at this point. we paid $140 for a room with our own bathroom, NOT ensuite. When I'd booked over the phone, I was assured there were no other rooms by ours. BUT... our room / bath were directly across from the dining room, at foot of stair case that other guests used to get to their rooms, and basically in the front hall. Not very private. The room and bathroom were very crampy and awkward. The bathroom books were sticky and grimy... yuk!

Beautiful house

We stayed for 2 nights. Felt very welcomed by Kim and Brian, great conversations at breakfast. It's a laid back atmosphere and it's a beautiful old house. It was hot and we had a nice dip in the pool. Our room was excellent with a wrap around deck - just beautiful Great area close to theatre Breakfast is simple and bathrooms are shared but the price is reflected in that. Very good value We will definitely be back

A lovely stay at Arthur's Round Table!

My husband booked a night stay at Arthur's Round table and bought tickets to a musical at the Festival theatre for my birthday. It was a lovely time all round! The B & B is very close to downtown, about a 5-10 min walk. The Festival theatre is about 20-30 mins walk. We saw the pool, and it looked really nice, but didn't have time to enjoy it. Breakfast is continental, but we knew that so it was not a surprise. We chose to eat out at a local restaurant for breakfast instead, so I can't really comment on the quality of the breakfast. Our room was one of four upstairs, which all share a bathroom. The room and bathroom were all clean and we had a decent nights sleep. I think the rate we paid was good, considering other B & Bs nearby charge more, plus other local B & Bs required a minimum of two nights and Arthur's did not. We would return for sure!

Thumbs up for Arthur's Round Table

I just returned from another stay at Arthur's Round Table and, once again, my fellow travellers and I were very satisfied. Our hosts did so many things to make us comfortable and happy. The place is charming. The breakfast is serve- yourself with lots of choices, and our hosts are great conversationalists. Couldn't be happier. From Mary Ann Kelly

No words needed, amazing Bed and Breakfast

Me and my husband stayed at this bed and breakfast in August, summer of 2013, upon arrival the host gave us a very warm welcome. We payed up front and began our wonderful weekend. The house is a beautiful Victorian mansion. A large in ground pool occupies the back yard, surrounded by lush gardens. Down town is about a 5 minute walk, and the theater is about a 10 minute walk from the b & b. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable 3 day stay and plan to go back again this coming summer for 6 days.

2013-10-21 13:36:21

Inexpensive for good reason

The best thing about this B and B is the location, an easy walk to downtown. The second best was interesting conversation with fellow guests. It's downhill from here. Cash on the barrel head upon entry. I have stayed at many B and Bs and this is a first. Four rooms shared one unlockable bathroom. Our room appeared to have original paint. (circa 1900) One of the best things about a B and B is a home cooked breakfast. Arthur's provide do it yourself toast, bagels, cereal, and pour your own juice and coffee. Oh yes there was five over ripe bananas on the table. Usually you get what you pay for. Sometimes you get less. P Woods

2013-10-20 18:51:38

Never again!

Never again! Although the price was relatively low, we were taken aback when asked for full payment in cash almost as soon as we walked in. We soon realized that this was necessary because many guests would refuse to stay here, once they had a closer look around. The guest rooms and common areas were very dusty and in desperate need of a facelift, to say the least. Many light bulbs were burnt out and the lock on the bathroom door was broken. Not only did this offer no privacy, but also the guests of four rooms were required to share this one bathroom. This is completely unacceptable in my book. Breakfast was a huge disappointment. It consisted of do-it-yourself toast, cereal, some stale muffins, OJ, coffee, and a small bunch of bananas lying on the table. No hot cooked anything. Breakfast at Macdonald's would have been a huge step up from this fare. The owners were pleasant enough but rarely seen and they made no effort whatsoever to ensure that their guests were happy. I would recommend that you stay away from this B & B. For a few extra dollars, there are at least three other options just down the street that looked simply lovely, had private baths and offered hot breakfast. At least that is what I plan to do when I next visit to Stratford.

2013-09-30 12:06:32

Acceptable in a pinch

As a last minute booking we found this B & B acceptable. Our room was comfortable and the hosts quite friendly. Our room as spacious with a comfortable bed. Without a closet (or wardrobe) nor a dressing mirror, it lacked some convenience. We were surprised to see that the " private bathroom " was not connected to the room, still requiring being dressed to get to and from the bedroom. Nor was it really private as any other quests could have used it. Also, the bathroom could have been cleaner. Breakfast was your basic fibers and fruits, unimaginative. The residence is 2.4 km from the festival theatre, a pleasant walk, especially along the river.

Repeat visitor

We have stayed at Arthur's many times and will return. Kim and Brian are so friendly and helpful; it's always fun to be there. In the summer, there are lovely verandas to sit on or you can lounge by the pool for awhile. The continental breakfast includes muffins, toast, cream cheese, jam, cereal, fresh fruit, juice, fresh brewed coffee. It is help-yourself, but if anything runs out, Kim will bring you more. There's usually lively chatter around the tables about what people have seen or are going to see or do. The bathrooms are shared (it's quite clear in all their descriptions). It's an older house with character. If you like being in a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere with interesting people, you'll like it here and it's good value.

Quirky

Have stayed here twice, each time for two nights. The owners, Brian and Kim, are genuinely very nice people. During our first trip, they went to great lengths to replace a mattress for my mother, as her back is bad and the bed was too soft for her. They also made restaurant reservations for us. The only problem I had with the place on our first trip was the lack of secure rooms. The bedrooms and bathroom had only a hardware-store-style hook and eye to secure the doors. My bedroom had a private balcony off the back of the house. On our second trip the following year, the hook and eye style lock was missing from the bathroom door (water closet or toilet, which is separate from the shower / sink room). This is a shared bathroom on the second floor where there are four guest rooms. A refrigerator is available for things and need to be kept cold. Also on our second trip, the driveway was being redone with concrete. We had to park on the narrow street. They laid gravel and compacted it with a vibratory compactor until 10 PM, and around 7 AM the following day, concrete trucks arrived. Nobody got much rest. The breakfast at this bed-and-breakfast consists of do-it-yourself toast, cereal, fresh fruit, OJ, coffee. No hot cooked anything. I recommend Madelyn's Diner for breakfast. For $99 per night, I expect a little better. If you can handle the quirks of this place (creaky floors) and the lack of breakfast and occasional construction, this is the place for you. The house of lovely, the owners are friendly and helpful.

Enjoyable & goodtimes had by all

We stayed 2 nites as a group, the price is right for the time we spent coming and going, as we need to fit in lots of things while we are in town for plays. Quick breakfast for those on the go! Did not expect " hot breakfast " so the continental was fine. Morning dip in the beautiful pool and off browsing the shops of Stratford. It was a great stay at this B & B and enjoyed Kim and Brian's hospitality. Thanks & we will be back again.

Great sleep and eat!

We travel to Stratford often to go to the theater. We loved our stay here. I don't sleep well everywhere as both knees and shoulders have had surgeries. The bed was super comfortable so this b & b is a keeper for us. The breakfast was very good and served at a large table that afforded good conversation with other guests.

2012-10-29 15:29:55

Try Another B & B

Stayed one night and did not have an enjoyable experience. The owners were very nice and the house had a lot of character. However, we could hear someone watching TV below us until midnight, and we could also hear the other guests walk around (and they could probably hear us) because the house is old and will squeak with every step. The bed was queen, and was firm, but it was very squeaky as well which was not a problem for my wife, but for me I move a lot in my sleep and did not enjoy that experience. Like others have pointed out, the breakfast wasn't enjoyable when compared with that of other B & B's. They do have a swimming pool, however we cam during the fall / winter so that wasn't a big deal for us.

2012-08-31 09:10:46

You get what you pay for

My husband and I spent 3 nights here. While our ground floor room was large and we did end up not sharing a bathroom, and our hosts were very pleasant people, overall this B & B was not a standout. The property is pretty and the pool a nice touch. The house is old and needs a refresher paint job. The mattress was not comfortable at all and the breakfast is completely continental and do it your own style with limited healthy choices. We have stayed in other B & Bs for the same price and had much better breakfast. In the end we went to Madelynn's Restauarant for our breakfasts. There are four rooms upstairs and guests share ONE bathroom. The toilet is separate however I am not sure how the other guests managed. There is some fun decor though in the front entrance, with different hats to play act with if you feel like pretending to be a famous Shakespearean actor! Overall we would not stay again however, if there is little available and you want to be in town, then it will do. We will make sure we book further in advance from now on when we decide to go to Stratford.

Can't wait for next year !

We have been staying at Kim and Brian's beautiful Victorian home for many years now and we love it ! It may not be everyone's cup of tea but it is PERFECT for us. The simple breakfast is just enough to start a leasurely day by the pool or on the huge wrap-around porches. We especially love it when we get the back room with the private balcony. The upstairs kitchen is stocked with glasses, dishes, cutlery, frig, microwave and coffee maker - great for when we stock up at the local grocer's and enjoy poolside lunch or after theatre snacks and nightcaps. We feel like family and we LOVE it !

WORST B & B EVER!!

My husband and I were alarmed at this B & B. Avoid at all costs. The WORST Breakfast ever.. horrible coffee, no orange juice, stale bread and muffins. The owner claims " Millionaires " frequent this dump.. I hardly believe him. I think he is dillusional!!!! I agree with the other T. O reviewer... dirty place, private bathroom with a light-bulb missing in the vanity. He locked us out at night... Listen All... go to the Stone Maiden Inn up the street... amazing breakfas!!! You will not be disappoined... Catherine

Fabulous owners! Fun-filled, yet peaceful environment

If you want to a fun-filled, yet peaceful and friendly environment, I highly recommend this B & B. The pool is wonderful if you want to swim and catch a few rays and it's a short walk to downtown. The owners, Kim and Brian are simply wonderful! While my friends were at their firstly at the Avon, I decided to spend time at the pool. Kim, the owner, gave me all kinds of tips and asked if we had dinner reservations. We did not, but really should have. She proceeded to take her personal time to show me brochures and let me choose. Then she made all our dinner reservations for us while I enjoyed the sun. And when we were running a little short on time, Brian drove us to dinner one night. They were such wonderful hosts! If there's something you'd like, just let the know and they will accommodate. I've traveled the world and stayed at many B & Bs. These are the best hosts and the pool is sparkling clean! Breakfast is basic (cereal, yogurt, toast) so enjoy something light, then try the wonderful local establishments for lunch and dinner. Also, front porch makes for fun gatherings as did the balcony off my upstairs room.

2012-06-10 10:47:33

Worst of all

To start with breakfast, there was no cheese, very bad coffee, no jam and no fruit, As for the bed, the room was smelly, not clean I would not recommend this place for the money w have paid to anyone

2011-09-07 17:22:54

Bed only no Breakfast

Sorry, but cereal and make-your-own-toast does not qualify as a breakfast. If I am paying $99 a night, I expect some scrambled eggs at the very least. Don't go. There are much better choices in Stratford!

2011-08-03 10:03:29

Wonderful host and great value; we will be back

I'm a seasoned traveler (180 hotel / b & b nights each year), so I'm both picky and flexible. Owners Kim and Brian were friendly and helpful. Accomodations were as pictured on the web site -- everything clean, interesting decor, and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast fare: coffee, muffins, choice of cold cereal, toast, and juice, self-serve from 8:30 to 9:30. Nice in-ground pool and pool area for use any time. Easy walking (10 minutes) to Avon Theater and downtown Stratford. Further to other Stratford Theaters, but it's a nice walking town and there are cabs if you'd rather not walk. (If you drive, there's parking at the B & B.) I've stayed in other accomodations in Stratford that didn't meet my travel needs. I'm in Stratford to see plays and have a relaxing time. For example, I don't want to pay an additional $50-150 / night for a themed room, a room that includes a TV and DVD player, or a huge breakfast feast.-- I'd rather spend that money on better seats at the theater or dinner before the play. Staying at Arthur's Round Table proved to be a smart choice - it very good value and we will stay there again next year.

2011-07-25 11:06:22

" Crummy " is the word

Place dirty, esp. bathroom. " Linens " threadbare. Breakfast: cereal. Worth $49, not $99.

2011-06-19 22:53:43

Enjoyable, Relaxing Stay

We spent a relaxing enjoyable 3 nights here. Arthur's is fine Victorian Home, and was a great deal for the the Price in Stratford. The Pool was clean and my wife enjoyed sunning in it between Plays. I enjoyed relaxing on the Porch reading a book. I'd stay here again on another trip to the Festival. Kim, the owner was helpful, accomodating, and knowledgable about the Area.
