It was about time we visited Stratford at age 71!!!!

I booked our upper level King size suite back in November for our w / e visit early May 2019. Weather unseasonably cool and wet but perfect to be indoors watching musicals and plays. Hosts: Bill and Eleanor are a hard working couple who manage 4 suites in their home. There are two full sets of stairs to get to Upper Suite but it is extremely well equipped with nice kitchen area, containing small fridge and microwave. Coffee with filters available if want java before appointed breakfast time, which is of guest choice. There is a large L-R area with TV and select channel and also a large bathroom with nice shower / tub. There is an upstairs patio but we did not go on it due to weather. Breakfast was sublimely decadent with juice, yogurts, delicious fruit salad, all varieties of breads including Cobb Raisin Bread, homemade jams, hot breakfast included eggs and bacon and a full thermos of hot tasty coffee. We might have been able to access last minute theatre tickets via our hosts but had already purchased them through Festival website. Ample parking out back on generous driveway. 10-15 min walk to Festival Theatre and slightly shorter walk to Avon Theatre. Many churches in town and we chose St James Anglican which is 10 min walk down the street.

Wonderful B & B, centrally located

We have stayed here in the past. Each time Bill and Eleanor have been welcoming and gracious. The mornings start off well with excellent coffee. The guests we have met have always been warm, informative, and fun. The breakfasts are excellent. Given its central location it is an easy walk to everywhere.

LOVED IT!

I have been to Stratford a number of times before but always just drove in, saw play, and left! Bill & Eleanor were such gracious hosts that from now on, if I can't stay here, I'll stay home! I came here to relieve stress from recent events and felt completely at home (well, actually better than home!) from the first call I had with Eleanor. My room was comfortable and quiet, breakfasts were delicious and plentiful, and even the other guest were delightful! (my guess is that Bill and Eleanor are so delightful that they draw like people onto them.) The garden is a beautiful and quiet place to collect your thoughts after breakfast and the house was within walking distance of all theatres- even for someone like me who is not used to walking long distances because of joint issues (although when I come next time, I will drive to the Festival theater as it is a much longer walk.) Stay here and you won't be disappointed or regret it!!

Spacious & Comfortable Like Heaven Should Be!

We stayed two nights at A Patch of Heaven B & B, owned by Bill and Eleanor Kaethler and well located just across the Avon River at 36 Waterloo St. N. The huge, well-manicured, stately Victorian home sits on a corner lot; home and grounds circa 1915. They were most inviting hosts. Bill had the good fortune to host actor Colm Feore for two years in another B & B. He is quite affable with lots of stories during leisurely breakfasts that included fresh fruit and tasty side dishes. We occupied one of four two-room units (ground floor) that was spacious with ample sitting room, a TV for news and a comfy bed. The porch is gorgeous and a great spot to relax. Morning newspapers and coffee greet one as soon as you enter the dining area. Bill likes to call it a " place of peace and rest. " They are within walking distance to all four theatres. It's a short walk to downtown and Stratford's beautiful riverside park. This B & B is pet and smoke free. The fee is $150 / night.

Wonderful accommodation in Stratford with great hosts

We stayed at a Patch of Heaven for two nights. The room was on the second floor and very comfortable with extras, such as in room coffee, microwave, refridgerator, whirlpool tub. This location is great and within walking distance of town and theaters (although we chose to drive to the Festival Theater as it was a little further than we cared to walk). The room was surprisingly quiet- we did not hear other guests, doors, etc. The temperature was easily regulated in the room and the bed was very comfortable. The hosts-Bill and Eleanor- were very friendly and helpful with suggestions, since this was our first time in Stratford. Breakfast was fresh and delicious! Fruit and pancakes or French toast. No bacon or sausage but it was not needed. Would most definitely recommend.

Consistently excellent

We've stayed at A Patch of Heaven a number of times and continue to return because we always enjoy it. " Our " room (3) is large (actually two rooms) with a refrigerator and certainly plenty of room. Eleanor & Bill serve large breakfasts (pancakes, French toast) with fresh fruits and plenty of coffee.

Appropriately named... Patch of Heaven it is!

A lovely night's stay began for us, along with 6 of our other friends (3 couples), with a warm welcome from our host, Bill. We were all in Stratford to attend a wedding, and we could not have been happier with our rooms / accommodations, the location of the B & B (can easily walk to everything from here) and the hearty & delicious breakfast served to us. Everything at Patch of Heaven is handled with such care and attention to detail! This place is full of old world charm.... each room has its own kitchenette that has a microwave and small fridge (stocked with complimentary water) and private bath (with an amble amount of soft towels!). A balcony sits off the uppermost unit, on the 3rd floor, but is easily accessible to other units.... it is a wonderful spot to enjoy a glass of wine in the afternoon or a morning coffee. We left the wedding earlier than some of our friends, who arrived about an hour later... never heard a thing! If ever in Stratford, be sure to try and get your room here... I know we will!

Definitely a very nice place to stay

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at this B & B. The suite is very spacious and comfortable with all the amenities of home. We liked the idea of the 2-room suite. You have other options other than eating out for every meal. Bill and Eleanor were very hospitable hosts and made us feel like a part of the household. And, they provided a wonderful breakfast. Truly a very nice place to stay. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone we know that is planning a trip to Stratford. Rita P.

Heavenly sized rooms, host, and location

We stayed during our annual pilgrimage to STRATFORD to enjoy the theater -reserved their roomy 600 sq foot suite to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary in style! Host and Hostess were friendly, & knowledgeable, an insightful (being former therapists). Our top level room had a full kitchen, large refrig, and excellent wi fi! and even its own private deck! The Tom Patterson theater is literally just a couple of blocks away across the William Hutt Bridge... a wonderful peaceful stroll with many sightings of Swans, geese, and duckies! Stayed 3 nights (to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary) Breakfasts were very good with a mixture of hot items and very fresh fruit & juices. We saw Arthur Miller's All My Sons - about the best, moving performance of the mother (who endures the suicides of husband and one son) imaginable and the most memorable play for my wife to date (I am still ranking William Hutt in Long Day's Journey into Night as my # 1 choice). John Gabriel Borkman, one of Henrik Ibsen's last plays was OK in comparison. We continue to rank Raja, an Indian restaurant next to the Avon theater, as our # 1 choice. While in Stratford be sure to get some chocolates at Rheo Thompson's on Albert St. and work in a moonlight stroll of a mile around the entire circumferance of the lake- the path We plan to stay at the Heavenly Patch again, unless they are sold out!..

Very nice stay

Bill and Eleanor are welcoming hosts. We stay in Room 1 which is equipped with a mini kitchen. This makes our visit more flexible. The breakfasts are good and hearty. Situated just at the end of the William Hutt bridge, it is a short walk from everything. This is very helpful.

A lovely step back in time

We just arrived home from a one-night stay in Stratford at this lovely establishment. My daughter and I decided on a last minute getaway to see Macbeth at the Festival Theatre and were lucky enough to find a room available. We stayed in the uppermost room in the house which had two spacious rooms, a kitchenette, and a magnificent lighted deck which would be a great place to enjoy some morning sun and a cup of coffee. Bill and Eleanor are gracious hosts and breakfast was simply delicious. We appreciated that they were very accommodating with our request to eat gluten free. We had a choice of muffins, toast and cereal as well as a big bowls of fruit salad and scrambled eggs. The house is in a perfect location - close to the river - and it took us only 15 minutes to walk to the Festival Theatre. The main town and restaurants are just a few minutes away. Enjoy your stay!

Truly a " Patch of Heaven "

Our whole family absolutely enjoyed staying at this B & B - from the 17 year old down to the 8 year old! Being just a few blocks from the river, the location is perfect for a stroll. Each unit has 2 rooms and a private bathroom, and the breakfast was amazing. We have found the perfect place to stay the next time we want to see a play!

Lovely, warm, relaxing

There is likely no better B & B to stay at in Stratford. Our hosts, Bill and Eleanor, are exceptional. The location is excellent, you can walk to everywhere. The breakfast is great and the accommodations are excellent.

Great little b & b

Very friendly and welcoming owner, nice accommodations, delicious family style breakfast. Stayed in the blue room on the first floor and enjoyed using patio style front porch. Minutes away from downtown Stratford and theatre, great for a weekend getaway.

Charming country inn

We loved this B & B. A highlight was the spacious porch where we could sit and relax - albeit not too long, as it was a chilly day. The angel motif was charming, the breakfast was wonderful, and the host and hostess were most gracious. We walked from there to all the theatres with no problem at all. The shared living room was very comfortable, but not available to guests when the host and hostess were out for the day.

This B & B is tough to beat

We have stayed here before and it is a wonderful place to stay. Walking distance to pretty much anywhere. Bill & Eleanor are great and knowledgeable hosts. Breakfast is abundant and entertaining. Interacting with the other guests is great and Bill is an excellent facilitator. We stayed in room one which has a bedroom, bathroom and a TV area with fridge, microwave and a sink with many kitchen items. It makes for a great base of operations.

Wonderful B & B in a Perfect Location!

This was a great B & B find. Our hosts / owners Bill and Eleanor could not have been more wonderful. We stayed for six nights while we attended six show at the Stratford festival. The Patterson, Avon and Festival theaters are all within walking distance. Although in truth we chose to drive to the Avon and Festival locations. Downtown is also only four blocks away. Bill gave us several restaurant suggestions and all were good to excellent. You can read our reviews of them. He also suggested visiting a huge farmers market about 40 minutes away in St. Jacob which was a lot of fun. It is clear that he loves Stratford and the surrounding area and has a great knowledge of both. The rooms are just as they are pictured on their website. Ours was on the first floor which opens both onto the porch and the main entry way. It has a bedroom, sitting room including microwave and fridge. The full bath included a jacuzzi tub. Each morning we had a delicious and large hot breakfast. There were always fruits and pastries, juice, coffees / teas, breads, yogurt, cereals and then something hot such as french toast, eggs or pancakes. It was a delight meeting the other couples staying there and discussing the shows that they had seen or were going to see. Bill would occassionally pipe in with some local color about the festival, one of the local actors or history of the festival. It has been a very enjoyable stay. We have decided that this would be our first TripAdvisor Service Excellence Pin presentation.

Exquisite Romantic Getaway

I booked this as part 2 of a surprise honeymoon for my new bride and we were not disappointed! The location was exquisite: close to the theaters and downtown; close to parks for romantic walks and swan-watching; quiet room. The hosts were very friendly, personable and accommodating, and quite knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed our chats very much. We had the suite on the main floor, and it was more spacious than we had expected! Breakfasts were delicious and there was no shortage of food -- even the fresh fruit salad bowl! When we return to Stratford, we will definitely try to book in here!

Beautiful room, great location

My husband and I spent two nights here while in Stratford for the festival. We occupied the top floor suite, which comprises a large living room, very large rooftop deck, kitchen and bedroom. Jacuzzi tub, and lots of space. I loved the big living room, with Persian carpet. Bed very comfortable with a window directly above it so we could see the stars. Mostly private entrance that leads directly from the small parking lot. Unfortunately, they call this Unit 4 - a more colourful name would be more suitable - Starlight Suite? Rooftop Retreat? It was not cheap - $175 a night, but nice for a retreat from the world. You could invite friends back to enjoy a drink on the treetop deck, or play cards as the old kitchen table. (We didn't. We just enjoyed being alone.) The rest of the house is interesting, and the place is family friendly. Our host was a little too emotional talking about his private life, but maybe we encouraged him. Friendly owners. Kind, sociable. Breakfast, I'm afraid, was not really to my liking, but if you like pancakes and French toast you will be a good place. The fresh fruit salad each morning was very welcome, but I need a powerful protein breakfast, and would have preferred a selection of meats and eggs. Still, for families, it might be great. Close enough to the theatres to walk, and really right downtown. If I stayed again, I'd get breakfast elsewhere.
