Awesome people
The managers and workers of Crossville Shoneys, go out of their way to help customers. Yall are very appreciated from Peacock Jamie.
All fried was greasy
Friday night fish night. Yuck. Everything was grease logged except the chicken. The fruit looked old. The wife said most all the food was tasteless. If we ever go back we will try the menu
Great Breakfast buffet
The BEST breakfast buffet.... very clean and a great selection of hot food on the bar. Great service with mature servers. Very pleased. Great experience.
Lots of choices
Just could not find a place we were interested in for brunch. We crossed the bridge at I-40 and saw a Shoney's. It's been years but the parking lot was packed. We were seated quickly by the nice host. Our waitress was very kind and patient. The menu was very limited but they have quite a buffet spread. We both decided on the buffet. All of the items appeared to be very fresh and they refilled the low trays consistently. We did not find a single item disagreeable. The service was great, the food good and the price reasonable. We both left stuffed and ready for a day of antiquing. We will definitely return.
Not a good experience
Low quality food. Limited menu and limited buffet bar. Some food overcooked. Eggs like rubber. Restaurant not clean. One cashier at checkout with over 15 people in line to pay - - waited in line for 20 minutes just to pay the check before exit. Not a good experience or one to repeat.
Food not as ordered, inedible
I stopped at the Crossville location of Shoney's on my way up to Vermont, where I am relocating. I had stayed at the Executive Inn across the road, the night before, and unfortunately my cell phone alarm was set on mute, which I did not realize, and I did not hear it go off. Therefore, I slept later than expected and did not get out until 11:30 am. The Waffle Shop up the road was full, with no parking spaces in the lot, so I ended up turning around and going back to Shoney's. I found out from the waitress that although the menu says they only serve breakfast till 11 am, it is extended until 1:00 pm on Saturdays. I ordered coffee, and the breakfast item which includes eggs (I said I wanted my 2 eggs scrambled), breakfast potatoes and bacon and a biscuit. I waited at least 40 minutes for my food. When I got it the eggs were lukewarm and were not scrambled; they were cooked " over easy " and there was no bacon, only sausage patties which were so salty I could only take one bite. When I told the waitress, she told me that " the cook took forever to cook your food and he didn't do anything the way you ordered " and she said it was unacceptable and I should not have to pay for it. I told her that this wasn't necessary but she insisted. When I left she was telling the manager and he said, " So are you just going to let her walk out of here without paying? " I told him who I was and what had happened and that I very much appreciated the fact that they understood that this food was not as I ordered. I would never eat at this location again. It is overpriced and the management is awful. The waitress was a saint.
Breakfast
We stopped at Shoney's in Crossville this morning for breakfast. The food quality was good, and the restaurant was very clean. The items on the breakfast bar were hot. Our waitress (Rachel) was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. It was a good experience.
cold breakfast foods, on several occassions
First of all, the employees are exceptional. Every time here, they go over and above. But, after having breakfast here 3 times, the steam table had issues. The grits, if that's what they were supposed to be, were runny, clumpy, cold. Bacon tasted off. Cubed potatoes were good and hot. Salad side was fresh and looked good. Always clean.
Good and very filling.
Look... I'm not saying it will change your life, but it's hard to leave hungry. The food is Southern comfort food... sticks to your ribs and thighs. Good chicken. Good service. Good green beans. I like breakfast here, too. Rachel is super friendly. Stop in and eat.
Good place
Went on seafood buffet night and even though I do not eat seafood was able to find other things to eat. Waitress was very friendly.
Shoneys of Crossville
I came here today with my family and my grandpa for Father's Day and the food was great! The employees on the other hand thought it would be okay to talk crap about their customers like they are trash amongst the other employees and I do NOT feel like that is okay and that something should be done.
Lunch on Crossville, TN
While travelling from Nashville, TN, to Asheville, NC, we stopped at the Shoney's Restaurant there in Crossville, TN for lunch. My wife and I had their soup and salad bar offering and were quite pleased with the array of items on the bar. Several fruit and dessert items were also offered at the bar in addition to the usual salad items. The restaurant seemed exceptionally clean as did the restroom--kudos. Our waitress was charming. All and all a great experience.
Everything was straight from a boxed mix or can
We normally aren't picky, but the buffet here was pretty bad. Selection was good, but the potatoes were instant, mac and cheese canned, gravy canned, etc... The meats were flavorless or just greasy and bland. Maybe it would be better if you ordered from the menu...??
Great buffet!
All of the food on the buffet was good, and you can't beat the price! We ended up here for lunch because it was around 3pm and none of the local restaurants were serving. Despite the odd time of day, the restaurant was busy (with many of the customers being locals, which tells a lot.)
Horrible food. Rude Management. During breakfast
The breakfast bar food had been laying until it had dried out. Scrambled eggs was chewy. Egg omlet had turned to rubber. The bacon and ham was so dried out and tasted like it had been cooked with old grease. The gravy had turned to paste. Would never recommend this location. And the manager had a horrible attitude concerning the complaints by me and other patrons.
Breakfast
One of my go-to places for a fast, full-service breakfast. I choose the buffet... that's my immediate service. The buffet is quite adequate, with nice fruit choices to finish with. There is an ample array of breakfast choices.
Gray Cold Fries Replaced with new ones
We stopped here for lunch and we disappointed with the meals. The onion rings were all stuck in one lump the first fries I got were cold and gray. They replaced the fries with new ones. The burgers were odd they were dome-shaped and dry? I got 2 red onions on mine the tomato and lettuce were ok on both. The buns were greasy and shiny. all the food looked like it was just tossed on the plate. The server was good she was busy but nice.
Shoney's has Slipped
My husband and I went in for a late lunch. I ordered an All American burger, and was asked how I wanted it cooked. I replied medium, and was asked " medium rare or medium well done? " They only cook them " rare or well done " ! Guess MEDIUM is obsolete. And patty was rather thin. My husband ordered a fish sandwich. When our orders came, he had 3 very small, very tough pieces of fish (or suppose to be), a small oblong roll and onion rings. Manager came by to explain they had run out of fish and chips. We tried to explain that wasn't what he had ordered but couldn't seem to get them to listen. We had to ask for silverware, napkins, and ketchup, which came in small cups about 1 / 3 full.... they brought 2 of them. I had onion rings, too, and like ketchup with them. The server never offered nor asked about refills for our drinks, but she sure was busy talking to other customers, which I assume she knew. When she brought our check, she said the manager gave us a discount because of the issue. Not exactly sure how we're going to spend that whopping $1.27 but we'll figure it out. Oh, and just so you know, if you like lemon slices with tea or water, be aware that they don't have lemons - they serve 100% lemon juice. Enjoy!! I gave 2 stars because the onion rings were good, but we didn't like them enough to return to this restaurant.
Great Resturant
Good meal, good price, great service. Highly recommended. We was there at lunch. Nice crowd but the service was quick, friendly and with a smile. Refills were offered. The server was nice but not too pushy. The food was delicious. Highly recommended.
Mediocre frozen food
Food tasted warmed from a freezer, staff was 2 stars. I usually love shoneys but I recommend looking elsewhere.
Excellent Place to eat
Very Clean, Friendly place to eat, buffet was in great shape and well Stocked with hot foods, and cool Crisp salads. Excellent Server's and Friendly.
Comfort Food buffet
Great value and lots of great choices on the buffet for every taste. Quick and casual dinning, Give it a try!!
Returning from Texas
We have eaten at the other Shoney's in Harriman, TN which we like very much. This one is similar but in our opinion the other is better. The attention and service was very good, but again, we consider the other better.
First Timer
I'd driven past thousands Shoney's over my many years of travel. Every time I saw one, I'd say or think, " I've got to check that place out. " Well, finally, in Crossville, I did. And I'm so glad I did. The waitresses are awesome here. The good is pretty good, and the buffet, although not a huge selection to choose from, is on point. The buffet was included with every meal, except for the meat. The prices were really low for the quality. Can't wait to go back.
127-yard sale
Buffet was ok, could have had more variety. You defiantly have the opportunity to get full. Service was good.
Good buffet
We stopped while passing through and loved it. Our waitress was very friendly and the food was good. We all got the buffet to make it easy and it was very good. Loved the salad bar.
BACON BACON BACON
I love breakfast at Shoney's. The eggs are great, the bacon just right, biscuits and gravy fit for a king.
Slim Jim Nasty Sandwhich!!!!!
How Do You Screwup A Ham Sandwhich??? Go There Find Out!!! Served Cold, Totally Burnt Ham, Cold Hard Bun. Totally Gross!!!
Great Sunday Brunch
We stop for after church brunch when we are in town. Nice selection of eggs, french toast, sausage and etc. Emphasis on the ETC. Something for everyone's taste.
Easter Buffet
We decided to stop at Shoney's for their advertised Easter buffet, and were happy we did. They had a great variety (ham, turkey, meatloaf, coconut shrimp, beef tips, etc) plus a number of sides, full salad bar, and a few dessert. The staff replenished things very well, everyone was friendly, and our waitress Vicki was very attentive. Great job! Now to try both their seafood buffet and the new (er) fish entrees they advertise on the bon-buffet menu.
Decent Service & Food
We had the lunch buffet. The food was good, but avoid the meatloaf. It had a chemical taste to it. The rest of the buffet was good..
Disappointing Dinner
I had not eaten at Shoney's for at least 15 years. As one other reviewer stated, it was not how we remembered Shoney's to be. We went for dinner; the french fries was undercooked and inedible; the salad bar was underwhelming; the buffet bar was okay but not as good as what other restaurants offer. The bright side was the waitress was very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to another Shoney's after this experience.
OK restaurant
Some of the fried chicken and fish was a bit tough. Turkey fricassee was good. I have eaten at better Shoney's.
Not the Shoney's we remember
We were in town for the Hwy 127 Yard Sale & spotted the Shoney's.... since they are now hard to find we pulled in. MISTAKE... our waitress informed us the buffet had catfish & chicken. The catfish was awful... was like a processed meat, the vegetables so-so & the macaroni salad & cole slaw tasted like it had been on the buffet for days. A very bad start to our trip. Definitely not the Shoney's we remember.
We Ordered the All You Can Eat Buffet, But Left Hungry
One poor overworked waitress was trying to seat guest, wait tables, refill the buffet, and cashier. We saw no one else working until we left and another waitress appeared. They were out of Coke and Root Beer. After I ordered and went to the salad bar the poor waitress came out to tell me they were out of the entree I ordered. I reluctantly said I would take the buffet instead. My mother had ordered the buffet as well. Nothing on the salad bar appeared or tasted fresh, the iceberg lettuce was brown, and limp. All of the foods on the hot bar were room temperature or less. All were stale. The batter of the fried baby shrimp was not even slightly brown. It was totally inedible and we had concerns about food poisoning, so we left hungry. She told us that they were out of many items due to the 127 Hwy Sale but the dining area was 75-80% empty. It was 2;30 in the afternoon but no excuse for this situation even in slow times. The 127 Sale has been held there for 30 years, so it shouldn't be that difficult to have enough in stock. We felt so badly for the waitress that we did leave her a decent tip. It appeared to us that none of the problems were her fault. We didn't bother to complain, as it would have been more than awkward with one employee doing it all, and others waiting. We rated the service average, but she did the best she could considering the circumstances. No way she could give excellent service with all that was going on. It was amazing service wasn't worse considering, We had been there in the past it wan't always 100% excellent but sure wasn't like this. We wont go back.
Did great on the busiest day of the year
I had to write this review after the wife and I stopped for the breakfast buffet on Mother's Day, their absolute busiest day of the year. We appreciated that the food all tasted fresh, but it was the employees that really stood out. Incredibly busy yet our server, Joann, and Amber who was stocking the buffet items, were very friendly and helpful. The people in the kitchen were doing everything possible to keep up to the flood of people, and all in all they succeeded. Great job by all.
Good eating place
Go to Shoney's! The waitress remembered my drink preference without me recalling her face. After that I have learned most of their names in the establishment because of the good service they all provide. Every day they serve their signature soup which is beef & cabbage, at the food bar. If you enjoy drinking Mr. Pibb Soda this is the place to get it. I usually tip the waitress ten or more dollars. They really do work hard for their pay and I like trying to help out a little. Sometimes I will give one waitress a large check to cash and divide up with all the waitresses. I know if my waitress were to not finish her service because of any happenstance or incident, another waitress would gladly jump in her place to make sure we were filled with drinks, extra sauces for our main course, or desserts and more napkins. I love Shoneys! They are like family to me and a happy crowd of workers!!
Just what we needed
This was surprisingly wonderful. After a very long week away from home this was our final stop. The server was great and the steak I ordered was one of the best I've had.
Friends dinner
Clean, reasonable price, polite service, good food... MUCh better than the one in Memphis. Friends eat there in the am for the buffet and they rave over it
good sevice & food
they have good service, and they have good food. we didn't use the buffet. serving sizes were perfect.
Nasty Food, Nadty Service
We were travelling to West Tennessee and decided to stop at this Shoney's because we know this exit well and it is well-lit. We got there before 6:30am and they opened at 6:00am. Most of the dining room lights were dim and there were only a few people inside. We ordered the breakfast buffet thinking that it is always good at Shoney's. Boy, were we wrong! Everything on the hot bar was cold and bland. And the fruit looked like it had been there for days. Needless to say, we left and drove straight over to the Krispy Kreme for something really good and hot. $20 for two breakfast buffets that were inedible is offensive and the server said at least I saved $2 beacuse it was some kind of special. Wow... it was special crap, that's for certain! I would never recommend this Shoney's and I will never eat here again at any time of day.
not impressed
Stopped in around 7:30 pm and decided to eat off the buffet.... The food was cold, probably wont be stopping there again.
Not impressed
The waitress was a delight. I have no issues with her. However, do not order the steak. It was a poor cut and even less desirable taste. The cook must not know what med rate is because the steak was fully cooked and she even offered to put it back in if it wasn't done enough.
September Breakfast Buffet
Wednesday morning around 7:30. Staff was friendly. Buffet was excellent. All food was at the proper temperatures and tasted good. Lots of choices. Lots of BACON!!! Ignore the poor reviews any older than this one. A good meal!
Try the Slim Jim
Shoneys was a real treat for us when we growing up. We were on a road trip and my grandson had never been, so we tried it. Good food friendly service
Nice surprise
First time in years I had ate at a Shoney's. Stopped on business trip for lunch and had sirloin steak dinner. Good taste. Steamed veggies were not that great. Salad bar was better than expected and soup was real good. Waitress was very friendly and attentive.
Good breakfast!
The last couple of Sunday mornings, we have visited Shoney's in Crossville. The breakfast bar and service are great. I wish the Cookeville Shoney's was as top notch as the CROSSVILLE location.
Decent buffet
I enjoyed the salad bar in particular. On weekends they keep the breakfast items on the buffet until 2:00 pm. So I also enjoyed turkey and very moist dressing. I added chicken tenderloins with it. My wife ordered chopped steak and loaded baked potato. The potato tasted old and dry, so we requested mashed potatoes instead. They were instant, and not very good. The best part of the meal was the salad, which, of course, I fixed myself. It was also nice to have someone else pay for our meal!
TERRIBLE FOOD
Went there for breakfast, ordered off the menu. Menu stated " crisp " bacon. Bacon was limp and not cooked. Our waitress was apologetic and took the bacon back to the kitchen and when it came back out it look the same. Also got the heel of the bread for toast. Our waitress adjusted our bill to reflect deducting the bacon. When we went to pay our bill we notified the manager about the food and she said " everyone have a different view of how crisp bacon is ". She abruptly turned away from us and said " have a nice day " sarcastically. Won't be back!!! Bad attitude from the Manager.
buffet
The bar is kept full and fresh. Especially like Tues. because The bar is kept full and fresh almost all the time. I especially like Tues. because they serve breakfast all day.
Typical Shoney's
Located just north of Exit 317 on I-40 (right side), this is convenient for travelers. Place was clean. Service not great. Great value for entrees that include salad bar, soup, and fruit bar. I had a burger, and it was good. My friend had a fish sandwich, which looked huge, and she said it was good. Place has been renovated since I was last in it, and it's a big improvement.
