cool vibes, nice location, free parking

We were here to celebrate our friend's birthday, one fine afternoon at Zeppelin Hall Biergarten. It's conveniently located along the light rail line. Even in the early afternoon, Zeppelin Hall was pretty crowded. we thought it was a small pub but it's a huge establishment. Big halls, outdoor seating arrangements, another big hall for the event- means the more you walk, and you feel like- is it ever going to end? At the center is a high, wood-top bar where tenders, barely visible behind a wall of tap handles (38 to be exact), busy themselves serving beer in heavy glass steins, available in pint, mug, or liter size Three separate bars and Every bar has different beers on tap, so you should rotate from bar to bar for the full selection. We had a couple of beers (wheat, strawberry cider, & Hofbrau), explored the area, chit chatted, and laughed- a good time it was! it's not your classy restaurant, no one gonna guide you to the table or ask for your order. just go there, sit anywhere you like, and chug it. I like the vibe, coolness quotient was too high ;) Zeppelin revelers have been known to cheer as the train travels past about every twenty minutes_I'm not sure why but don't question the collateral effects of 32-ounce mugs of strong German beer. I did like their Beer glasses- and enquired about 'is it for sale' - unfortunately- it was not... poor me Also, bring your pets! It's pet friendly. and hey the best part- PARKING is free: light rail parking is also available for Zeppelin folks (just google 'Zeppelin Hall parking' and it will take you there). you don't need to validate it, just park it and have a good time.

A nice place

Very good food, our group liked it a lot. The service was really good. We really liked hanging out here.

Extremely poor service. 1 hour wait for food with no notice. A restaurant tells you 30+ minute wait. No notice of the 1hr warr

Useless place. 1hr wait for food, but no one tells you that. Simple sausage plate $13 one hour wait, no mention of how long it would be.

Horrible Live music for the beginning of October Fest

Beers still great at always! Even the food! But, what the heyyy is the horrible hashing of out of time actually good of tunes. Find better band / singers or the customers won't drink & simply leave. 2 star horrible experience on September 26 & very bad singer. Just put back on the canned German music… 10x better!

Loved It!

I was looking to come back to this great place this year again for Oktoberfest when I realized I never reviewed it last year! I gotta say, this place is so wonderful! We loved the food, beers and the band playing is surprisingly amazing and entertaining. Like I said, I'm def planning to come back this year!

Very disappointed

This was probably my tenth time going to the Biergarten, Although I had not been there in about 3-4 years. I went with my wife and son for a very disappointing dinning experience. The menu was small and there were no more Tomahawk steaks, borsht, or pirogies. It was the last day of sausage fest. The sausage took about a half hour to be ready and were dry. Definitely no reason to celebrate. The sausage for two was accompanied by a small order of fries that were ridiculously small, and a type of kraut. It appears that they are now concentrating on simply selling beer. I probably would never go back.

Beer and brats!

Had dinner here one night with a good friend. The beer hall is spacious, and they have a great selection of beers on tap. Just when you think this is the greatest place on earth, you go into the next room and order an assortment of sausages, pretzels, and other German fare, which is served piping hot and delicious! Did I mention the fireplace? Really makes a difference on a cold winter night!

Sehr Gut

After the Jersey City Dog Fest this past weekend we ambled over to the Zeppelin Hall and Biergarten..... similar to hofbrau houses in GE, with long tables. We were pleased this day to be able to take our four legged freinds (only on Dog Fest Day) seated out back underneath trees with a nice breeze were treated to German beirs, lemonades and the infamous Muncheon bretzels! YUM. A great ending to a very hot sultry afternoon downtown! Parking nearby. Seating inside and out, varied menu with some German overtones, pleasant staff. Restrooms downstairs which could be problematic after too many beers and not well lit. There is a fusball game also downstairs. Reservations not needed but better to do so on weekends. Handicap frienidly. You place an order and then are given a electronic device to pick up your meal or snack. Seems to work! Vunderbar!

Sehr Gut

All the way downtown in Jersey City, Zeppelin Hall dons one of the most impressive Biergartens on the East Coast. It's a great overall venue for festivity aside from food, and is immersive as German-Americana.

An NJ Institution When it Comes to Beer and Barbeque

Love heading here after work with friends. It's unpretentious with ample indoor and outdoor seating so there's always a place to call home. The beer menu is vast and the food portions are massive. The place has been around for a decade and there's a reason for it. They know what they're doing and they do it well. The pretzels and the meat dishes (the pulled pork and the brisket in particular) are standout!

Local Staple

For me this a go-to. I live and work in the area. I go for afterwork drinks and i've been on the weekends to watch sports and enjoy a beer. I like that the food menu has seasonal offerings. My favorite so far was Creole Shrimp and Grits for Mardi Gras. The beer also has seasonal offerings. This place is large and has geed seating for groups. There are also smaller tables for couples.

Fun venue and tasty food

I'm glad we have this restaurant in the neighborhood. It's great to have open seating (indoors or out).. good for couples, families, or large parties. Young and old. I don't eat red meat so was happy they had chicken brautwurst. Excellent. For a fun relaxed outing with good food, this is the place.

Don't bother

Great venue but the service and food are horrible. Got excited about a Cajun menu but nothing Cajun about it. I mentioned it to the host and he said he could say something to the staff but they wouldn't listen. Too many good restaurants in Jersey City. Don't waste your time or money here.

Bayerisches Feeling in Jersey City

GREAT FOOD, COOL ATMOSPHERE

Always a stop during the summer to hang out. The food is great, They had a MOLJACATES DE TULUM event, Food specialties ground with mortar and pestle and served in stone bowls heated over open flames, The food was awesome. AS always the beer selection is vast. There is outside seating with fire pits, inside seating with several bar locations. I definitely recommend if you your for a good time with friends

Biergarten in Jersey City

Great Ambience and Good Food

The whole setup of the place is pretty cool. A great place to come with friends to have a good time. The wings are super good. I heard the burgers were good as well but didn't get a chance to order it. We did have an issue with one bartender. She was a young lady that was brunette and she was really rude and abnoxious. Thankfully when we switched bars to the outside one the bartender who had a beard gave us excellent customer service and was a great bartender. I believe the bad bartender was in training so somebody definitely needs to help her! Other than that we had a good time

2018-04-22 13:34:27

Missed the Mark

The setting for this place has a lot of promise that was not realized. The beer menu was mostly domestic beer with few German beers on draught or bottle. We ordered food and the table buzzer never went off and our food was sitting on the counter for awhile before I went up and asked if our order was ready. The music was also club / house music and didnt fit the setting, theme, or time of day. Especially the F bombs that were dropped at 1pm on a Sunday afternoon. For a German fix I would go elsewhere.

2018-04-03 12:51:40

Worst customer service ever

I had a very bad experience here. Spent couple of hours and a lot of money just to be treated poorly by their employees while leaving. They were unprofessional, rude and came across as racist. I feel so bad for giving them my money but never going back. And I will make sure none of my friends go there too (I have a lot of friends so they will lose many customers thanks to me!) The food is below average and drinks are ok but if a place is not treating their customers well then whats the point. Jersey city downtown is filled with amazing restaurants / bars with great employees, so do yourself a favor and stay away from this place.

Biergarten

Great place with an amazing draft beer selection. Great food, inside or outside seating, and they have a free parking lot, although it's a little out of the way.

Great selection of Beer & in a nice setting

I love stopping by this Beer Garden because the food is very good and the selection of beers are excellent. The bartenders are great they are friendly and they even turned me on to some interesting beer combinations. They let you sample anything you are interested in but never tasted which is a big plus!

2018-02-07 15:40:24

Free Parking and Great Food

I went here to try out their Baconfest menu and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. The menu had endless options, but my favorite was the bacon tacos! They also has a great selection of beer.

Brunch

We had an excellent time. Went on a Sunday for Brunch. Service was excellent. Our server couldn't be better. Very attentive. There's a fun atmosphere here. The Croque Madame was so good. Everyone at the table enjoyed their food. Can't wait to go back when the weather gets warmer to sit outside.

Nice place but badly understaffed

This was my first visit to Zeppelin and I left not sure if I'd want to come back. The Biergarten itself was nice enough, with picnic tables and trees making for a nice seating area. The choices of beer on taps was good. However, on such a warm late summer Sunday when so many people were in Jersey City for the Newport Half Marathon, I would have expected Zeppelin to be ready for the large group of customers there that day. But only one bar was open, with only one bartender doing her very best to serve the line of people at the bar. When I noticed what looked like a bartender at the outdoor bar and went up to place an order, I was gruffly told the bar was closed. Isn't the point of a Biergarten to serve beer at, well, the outdoor seating area? Matters were made worse by the kitchen, where one of the people in my group waited almost an hour for his order of Currywurst while mine took about half that time (still too long). There were times when no one seemed to be at the pick-up window by the kitchen, leaving customers to wonder when and if they'd ever be able to pick up their order. It seemed there was only a skeleton crew actually working that day, again a nice Sunday with lots of customers eager to eat and drink. Perhaps I'm spoiled by much better experiences elsewhere (the Asbury Park Festhalle immediately comes to mind). But even by modest standards, Zeppelin was disappointing.

2017-07-10 06:23:26

Too noisy and uncomfortable

If you want to have a quiet beer in comfort, this is not the place. Though there is a variety of beer on offer, the place is too noisy and the seating basic. Vegetarians wanting to munch something with the beer will have to be satisfied with just fries. This one is not for me.

2017-06-18 22:09:54

Great Selection of Tap Beers

Went to Zeppelin Hall to get together with family. We love the outside picnic table seating area on a sunny summer day. There is also an indoor seating area with TVs showing a variety of sporting events. The Biergarten as you would expect has a large variety of beer choices. I was looking for a Summer Shandy type beer. The bar staff let me sample a few different Beers until I found one that was what I was looking for. It cost $7 for a 34 oz mug, If you like beer you will most certainly find something to your liking. As for the food German fare as you would expect. I ordered a Bratwurst sampler with three different pieces of brats, a small container of sauerkraut and a couple of pieces of rye bread for around $13. The platter was good but not a big portion. My wife ordered a grilled chicken sandwich. She said the chicken was dry. As for the atmosphere it is a bar. It has long picnic tables and is good for large groups such as ours. There are small kids running around. There was a birthday party for an adult going on in the indoor seating area when we were there. The large area to get together with family and the large beer selection are the draw for us.

Bier!

I've been to a bit of Germany and when I came back I needed a beer hall. Zero does just fine. Beer is decent, food ranges from lousy to good but they are always trying something. I've been there for Latin America week with a different country featured each night. They have great smoked wings, and a decent BBQ selection. Their schnitzel is ok, but necessary when jonsing from Munich. The food is obtained from a walk-up window -- just like in Germany. The setting is both traditional and weird. When inside, you get a massive 2 room grand hall with many bars. Outside there is a lot of seating in the garden. But it's not much of a garden. But it's outside. To get to this you enter a very standard large building (businesses & apartments). Quite disconcerting! They have a fab Thursday 1 / 2 price happy hour.

2017-05-17 12:10:44

Good Food and Location

I was here for about an hour for a birthday party for my cousin. The service was okay and wasn't really crowded. The food was good too.

2017-04-09 12:26:08

Great BBQ

Stopped here with the family, sat at the picnic tables in the larger hall area, which are comfortable for larger people. We had a toddler and 5 yr old in our group who could play at the foosball table until the meal arrived. You order at the window and go to pick it up when your pager goes off. My family got the Butchers Pick- I chose the pulled pork, spareribs and 1 / 4 smoked chicken. They were delicious! The seasoning rub on the ribs was excellent, not too sweet or salty. They were cooked perfectly and juicy along with fries and a beer. Good food at a good price. Casual dining in a fun atmosphere. Next time I will try some of the German specialties.

Worst bar I've ever been

This was the worst bar I've ever been to. First of all the bartender (Lauren) was drunk. We were standing at the bar In front of her and the guy she was talking to had to let her know we were right there waiting. We had our tab open. After our beers (coors and Grapefruit beer) which we had on the midnight special we decided to close our tab. She gave us a bill for which was much more than what we had with someone else's credit card with ours, Patrick was the first name on the other card. I had to ask for my right bill and our Zeppelin Hall VIP card.

2017-02-14 10:25:25

Beer hall

Good place but not easy to find if your not familiar with area. Gets a bit crazy on weekend nights with a younger drinking crowd.

2017-02-13 17:40:27

Casual and friendly beer garden

Fun spacious beer garden. Great outdoor space in the summer. Good place for families. Room for kids to play. Good selection of beers on tap. More European than craft.

2017-01-03 08:02:52

Fun outdoor dinner

Great outdoor dining on long picnic tables. Casual enough to stroll in with shorts and the shirt. Spacious and safe enough that our kids could get up and walk around. The floor has small pebbles so watch out that the smallest ones don't eat it. Otherwise, we enjoyed drinks and the kids loved the pretzels.

2016-11-27 20:19:05

Good food and drink

Huge place with communal tables make this place fun and friendly. Lots of huge projection screen TVs great for watching sports and hanging out with friends. The food was delicious with good size portions for the money. Lots of beer on tap and bottles. Kids are allowed during the day and early evening. Bring your appetites!!

2016-11-20 16:44:50

Okay place. Will be back

Came here with friends on a Saturday morning for brunch. The place was empty at that point, which is expected for a place that serves lots of beer. The place is very open and basically you pick a place to sit and table service is minimum. The set up is a bit strange and not what I was used to. You basically go to the order window and order whatever you want and pay. Then they give you a buzzer, which will buzz you when the food is ready. Then you come back to the window to pick up your food and get the utensils and condiment you need. When I made my order I also indicated that I wanted a diet coke too. The lady taking the order told me that I need to go to the bar to make the order and pay there (separately). I find it very inconvenient. Food is okay. I did enjoy the German sausage I ordered and finished it. Once you finish eating, you are supposed to dump the trash yourself. There is very little table service. Some staff do walk around and ask if everything is okay but I don't think they will provide much service. In a place like that, I don't feel like tipping the standard amount since it is pretty much self service. I do like the food and the atmosphere. I will be back. This is more of a place where you just want to hang with your buddies and talk nonsense. I do need to give a 2-star (poor) rating for service, since everything is self-serve. For food and value, I assign a three star -- fair and just meet expectation. One last thing, parking is a bit inconvenient too. Basically you need to drive to a parking lot that is around 3-5 minutes by walk. I imagine that you don't want to do it on a cold or snowy day.

2016-10-26 10:25:20

A huge biergarten - lots of beer choices and bar food

This is the place to go to get draft beer and watch sports. It's huge, loud, energetic and has lots of beer choices. The food is adequate to slow your absorption of alcohol. Not for fine dining.

2016-09-12 19:12:28

Best Happy Hour

Food could be better but you can't beat this happy hour in Jersey City. Had a lot of great nights here. I try to avoid it when a game is on because the crowd can be a little toolish. I once saw Snookie and Jwow here once. More often I have seen Snookie and Jwow wannabes.

2016-09-05 16:14:46

Good beer selection

Good selection of beer, even if many were not available on my visit which was unfortunate. I have been here many times over the years and it seems to be overdue for an update. High definition tv and projection please! Menu was once more German / Eastern Europe, but they have seemed to go to BBQ now - either you are a biergarten or not, please decide.

2016-08-23 08:59:20

Had fun here. Lots of action

While the food was good, it's definitely a bustling environment. Prepare to stand in line. Overall it was a good experience.

2016-07-23 15:32:30

Wowza, so many beers to choose from

We ate before coming, so I can only comment for food on the tasty pretzels my friend ordered. The beer menu was amazing. There taps had old favorites and some new ones (there is a great strawberry-flavored beer). There were also chilled bottles you could order that had all kinds of flavors, from sour to sweet. It rained pretty heavily when we arrived, so everyone crowded inside for a while. It got CROWDED. But, they luckily have a bar covered by a tent outside. Eventually it started to dry up and the staff came around with squeegees and towels and we were able to get a dry table to enjoy the outdoors. It's a great place to accommodate a large group. Just get there early to grab a table.

2016-07-14 23:22:10

Not worth your time

My first visit five years ago was great, but this place has really nose dived since then. I hope you like a long walk, dirty tables, disinterested and borderline rude bartenders, a boring and tasteless menu, and an unimaginitive beer menu. I can't believe how far this place has fallen... Very light crowd, clearly the word has gotten around. Don't waste your time and money.

2016-07-13 21:19:03

Cold Tasty Beer on Draft

Nice biergarten in a semi-developed part of Jersey City. Indoor and outdoor seating and very reasonable happy hour prices. Strong selection of draft beers, served cold and tasty. Worth a visit if you are in area.

2016-07-04 08:28:28

Vacaciones Inolvidables

Fui a este lugar por recomendación de amigos y es muy bueno, tienen buenos precios y comida básicamente rápida con muy buen sabor

2016-07-03 18:25:14

Great big beer selection; fun food too

I have been many times to Zeppelin Hall, and have enjoyed it each time, either with friends, colleagues after work, and even for a rock karaoke night. ZH has a great selection of beer, including a good standard set of Euro-beers, but also a rotating set of guest beers, and American craft beers. The kitchen has a good selection of German / Bavarian / BBQ food, which you can get to share, or just enjoy all to yourself.

2016-06-28 17:53:00

Happening place for after work

A great place to meet friends, have a drink and eat a variety of food. Went on a Thursday night and they had all night happy hour. $4 beers! We had a huge sampler plater, all of which was good... with an enormous amount of fries. Lots of room in side and out for big groups.

2016-06-23 19:34:44

Huge beer garden

Walking around, I saw this place. What a great find. 50 beers on draft, awesome looking German menu. Will be back often.

2016-06-12 19:58:12

Terrible service

I attended an NJEA event with my husband and some fellow educators in May. While I enjoyed my company the food and service were horrible. There was supposed to be a buffet with real food, not the crap we were served. They even ran out of wings when there were only about 50 of us there. As one of the co- coordinators of the event my husband has been given the run around by a manager named Meghan. We were supposed to be reimbursed money on a gift card for the drinks that were not consumed. On several occasions my husband and his friend have tried to retrieve the gift card. The management has given us the run around on giving back the money owed. They do not communicate with their staff about these issues and have lied to us about when to get the money that is owed. They are liars and thieves.

2016-05-24 17:52:12

Great food, super beer

This place is hopping. We went and it was pretty packed but the food came out quickly and delicious. We had ordered the Pit Master to split (2 of us) and didn't think it would be enough food so we ordered the Sausage Sampler too. Man, it was so much food that we gave some away to our friends and family. Everything was delicious. The beer is in great big mugs and you have to have room for your beer. Would definitely go back. To do this review I looked at the website and apparently they have way more going on than I knew about. So, check the time of year it is and see what's hopping. Enjoy.

Great replica of a beer hall

This was on the list of places my cousin had to take me when I went out this last time. Typical beer hall with long tables and benches, great selection of beers that Coke in German sized mugs. Large outdoor area for when the weather is nice.

2016-04-24 19:09:02

Fabulous draft beer!!! But... food.

Come here for the typical German ambiance, with its long " picnic " style tables, and fabulous options of, and well served, draft beer!!! But, the food is either American (hot dog, hamburger, fries) or German - that is, something like German: frankly, it's far from the true German food, a timid imitation at the most, which was a major deception to me. But, go for the beer - you will not be deceived!!!!

2016-04-20 16:28:18

Best place to be in the summer

Saturday or Sunday afternoons get really busy at the Zeppelin Hall, and it's for a good reason. This biergarten has amazing flavorful beers and gratifying food. The giant pretzels with the cheese and mustard dips are out of this world. The atmosphere is what really is the best part. It could be a late Friday night or Saturday night or an early afternoon there's always a good vibe going on here.

2016-04-20 09:52:54

Best biergarten in the state

In my opinion, the best biergarten in Jersey. Authentic with 144 beer taps of mostly European beer (and some American craft beers), traditional food, and big long tables. I should talk about the space first - this place is absolutely massive, indoor and outdoor. They have three full bars to cover the space, and tons of seating, although somehow it still manages to get packed. The beer list is impressive and always solid. The prices, whether you're getting a flight, regular, or large beer are good (especially for the area). Do yourself a favor and try some beers that you can't pronounce - there's not many other places around here that you can find some of them. I have to admit I come here sometimes just for the food. I think it's that good. Massive pretzels, a few different types of sausages, and much more. Good sized portions, always satisfying, and great to pair with a beer if you're so inclined. Added bonus for people who don't live in Jersey City, they have a free parking lot. Now that you know that, I don't think there's any excuse to not make your way here and give it a shot.

2016-04-11 14:44:31

Huge outdoor beer garden and great food

I'm not a big fan of beer, nor is German food high on my list of must have cuisines. Nonetheless, Zeppelin gets it right. They have a full bar for others who like me, prefer less wheat in their beverage. We ordered the Pit Masters Platter which was not only affordable and shareable, but everything in it was awesome. A great place to come, hang out in the outdoor beer garden, enjoy good food and drink, while making new friends.

2016-04-03 13:11:56

Terrible experience

I don't normally give one start reviews. But this place deserves one. First off, the parking lots are not convenient. Second, the dress code policy. It was a snowy Sunday. A few friends and I went there to celebrate a birthday and one of the guys had Timberland boots on. They wouldn't let him in. Now there were nice boots, not dirty work boots. But because they were timberlands you can't go in. I had a different kind of boot and someone else had running sneakers. But for some reason that kind of boot is unacceptable (even in the NJ snow). Okay, so the real issue besides the silly policy that clearly states on the door " no work boots or clothes " is that they didn't nicely tell us this policy. The bouncer was rude and just blatantly asked us to leave and told us he didn't want our business anyways. We went to the Biergarten in Hoboken instead! So much better!

Exciting fun place with tasty food and great atmosphere

This is a really fun exciting place to take friends or visitors for a night out to remember, its a really big place inside with large TV's, live music and even folks can dance if they want, the music is captivating, and you leave with a feeling that you really had a good night out, can be loud sometimes and maybe hard to talk but overall its great experience. I never tried the tables outside but hope to one day when visitors come by again, but it certainly looks like enjoyable fun also, specially being outside.

Fun Place and Fun Time

This is a very large biergarten of the tradition Munich style in the middle of Jersey City. It is close to a light rail stop, but the parking lot was farther than I expected. The beer selection was good (as you want from a biergarten) and the atmosphere was fun. I was there for a wedding rehearsal dinner, and I would recommend this place for parties like that. Good food, great service, and a fun time all around!

Half off drinks all day / night thursdays

Zeppelin Hall is located right next to the Jersey Ave light rail station. The decor is a little cheesy. It almost reminded me of EPCOT's Germany. My boyfriend and I came in on a Thursday at around 7. It seemed like most people were just drinking and not really having dinner there. I can see why. It's endless happy hour on Thursdays - half off drinks, so a beer will only run you about $5. Plus, the food isn't very good. Here is everything we ordered: Smoked chicken wings - this had a nice smokey flavor to it but the chicken was extremely dry. I thought I was eating chicken jerky. It's served on top of a bed of onion straws but those just tasted like a giant ball of grease. Sausage sampler - you get to choose 3 out of a list of 5 sausages. I picked the kielbasa, chicken bratwurst, and cheesy bratwurst. The best one was probably the cheesy bratwurst but only because I love cheese. The chicken was just alright. After about halfway through, that's when I realized how salty it actually was. The fries it came with didn't help because they dumped a pound of salt on that too. The Hindenburger - a burger topped with a quarter pound bratwurst, sautéed onions, thick cut bacon, and your choice of cheese. Again, super salty but it's not something you realize until later. The few bites I had were pretty good. I can't remember all the beers we had but the system is kind of weird. Certain beers are only available in the hall and others are only available at the pub. So if you're getting a few different beers, expect to possibly be running back and forth. I would definitely come back but probably just for Thursday happy hour. I wouldn't mind trying a pretzel but that's it, as far as food goes.

Best Beer Garden in Tri-State Area

Zeppelin hall is a place that has a little something for everyone - couples, families, friends, and coworkers. Let's be clear - it's a German Beer Hall in the purest of forms, so don't expect 5-star service or out-of-this world food. You come here to get together with people you enjoy being around, enjoy some of the best beers in the world at ridiculously cheap prices (considering you're ordering by the 0.5L or 1.0L mug), meet other friendly people, and get some great bar food. The Good 1. Beer selection - They have one of the biggest on-tap beer selections to include micro-brews and craft-brews from around the globe. You'd be hard pressed to find another bar serving Ommegang, Radeberger, Hoffbrau, Hoegaarden, and all sorts of other delicious beers. To sweeten the pot, they serve the beer in half liter and 1 liter mugs. Let's face it, with that much beer, you're hunkering down for a while to hang with friends. 2. Atmosphere - usually very friendly crowd no matter when you go - happy hour crowd is looking to let loose a little bit, and the weekend crowds are usually very fun and friendly. Complaints about security are well-observed, but when everyone is drinking beer by the LITER, you want a little security for when folks get out of control. The hall is nothing to speak about - lots of wood, big long tables to sit, talk, and enjoy food, and of course talk with your friends. Most weekends they have a live band playing something in the background and the sports games on the big screens. The best part of the atmosphere is the outdoor patio that's about the length of half a football field. There no place I'd rather be on Spring, Summer, and Fall days than out in the patio, drinking a beer, and enjoying my family and friends. 3. Food - Yes, I'm putting the food under the " good " because it's pub food. For pub food, it's always hot, fresh, and consistently made, never really greasy, and perfect for all the drinking you'll be doing here. I'm not German by descent, but have had lots of authentic German food. If you want authenticity, you'll get about 50% here. The Bad 1. Crowds - come here on any nice day, and it will be tough to find a table. You may have to wait for others to leave. I've never had to wait more than 10-15 minutes though. 2. Self-serve - let's face it, this is really just lazy on my part. No bar is more than a 10-15 yard walk in this place. If you like to be waited on, don't expect that here. What is great is that the wait staff know every beer inside and out. They've always been VERY friendly and sociable, and will let you try a beer in a little dixie cup if you're interested in it, but afraid to order a half liter. Overall, fantastic place to come with friends, family, and the little ones (little ones really only during the day though. Don't be those parents who stay at the Beer Garden until 10PM with your kids. That's just weird). Good food, great beer, fun atmosphere - especially when the weather's nice. I recommend coming early afternoon and staying until the evening - and don't be afraid to try new beers! Happy drinking!

Ridiculous Rules!

I wanted to bring my fiancé to this " place today " for his birthday... Just to have a couple of beers and enjoy some German food. They didn't let me in because I was wearing my timberland boots. " No work boots allowed " ! But I had nice black tights on and my boots which were squeaky clean! Then I see a guy with house slippers that he had to walk 7blocks to buy so he can get it! F this place they're not good enough for Me! So people can look like they're wearing PJs and look like crap but and I can't walk in with my boots! Never coming here again! Not even interested! It's pretty embarrassing for them I think!

Don't go

Was there with a large group from work. It was extremely hot with no air conditioning. While there is a lot of room in various places to eat, the food was extremely disappointing.

A Little Bit of Munich on the Hudson

Having visited Oktoberfest in Munich on half-a-dozen occasions, I was anxious to see how this wannabee " German " restaurant and beer garden stacked up to the original. Zeppelin Hall is within sight of the Statute of Liberty near the Jersey City waterfront in a newly developed quarter of the city. With a couple of friends I visited during their late September " Octoberfest " observance, arriving at 5 P. M. on a Saturday evening. Directions were simple and clear and there was ample parking as the website had promised. But I was not prepared for the expanse and extent of the " hall " portion of Zeppelin Hall. No less than three cavernous rooms each fitted out with typical 30-foot long tables greeted us. The outdoor beer garden was also commodious and with gravel under-foot and an abundance of trees among the tables, gave a good approximation of an authentic Muenchen Biergarten. The offering of imported and domestic beers on tap and in bottles was staggering and the choices of food, German and otherwise would satisfying purists and neophytes alike. Giant pretzels (flown in from Munich, the menu declares), teamed up with spicy wings brought European and American cuisine together very nicely. Food and drink at Zeppelin Hall are not cheap (E. G. a liter of imported beer runs about $12.00) but the ambience, service and the Gemuetlichkeit all make a visit to Zeppelin Hall a worthwhile and fun way to spend an evening. Our late afternoon arrival was intentional; parking and seating were not problem at that hour. I am told, both can become problematical later in the day. Reservations are not taken and there are facilities for private parties. Credit cards are welcome but bringing in your own lunch is not!

Great Night Out in Jersey City

Zeppelin is a very good bar in Jersey City. I've been there several times recently, and I always enjoy it. Food: I've tried several dishes (currywurst, pierogies, pretzel, strudel) and I've never been blown away, but it's solid. Prices are probably about right for Jersey City. Beer: They have a really good selection. Large enough to have a written menu, and fairly diverse. True to form, they've always got a smattering of good German brews on tap. Atmosphere: The place is absolutely huge, which is great. I've been there when it's been crowded, but it never feels packed. And they have ample bathrooms, which is always a plus. With lots of TV's playing sports, they get an excited crowd if a game is on, but it doesn't get in the way of conversation if that's more your thing. Service: You serve yourself, basically. You go up to a window to order food, and you get a buzzer to alert you when it's ready. It never seems to take all that long.

Fun, casual place to have a few beers with friends

Zeppelin Hall is a great place for larger groups to meet and sample a variety of quality beers. This place is very large, with a lot of long " Oktoberfest-style " tables and benches, both inside and out. The overall vibe is laidback and fun, with a lot of groups hanging out for hours, talking and enjoying the large selection of beers on offer. The long, communal tables often mean that several groups will be sitting at one table and will start to interact with each other. The draft beer selection is pretty extensive, and you can order it by the pint, half liter or full liter. A recent observation that I made is that the tap beer selection has somewhat moved away from the traditional German beer list in favor of more of a variety of non-German beers. Some might consider that a negative, but there are still plenty of good German beers to choose from. They offer a good selection of lighter, fruitier beers that might generally appeal more to the ladies, but there are still plenty of darker, heavier beers too. They also offer wine and a full bar for the non-beer lovers among us. My only real complaint about ZH is that on a weekend, they often serve liters of beer in plastic liter mugs instead of the traditional heavier glass liter mugs. Whether this is a function of not having enough glasses, or just avoiding the chance of some inadvertent broken mugs, I don't know. Some might not care, some might even prefer the lighter plastic mugs, but, if I'm buying a $14 liter of decent beer, I definitely don't want it served in plastic. In fairness to ZH, I have found that if you request the glass liter when ordering, they will usually give it to you. The food is very good and consists of traditional German fare, such as pretzels and various sausages, as well as typical American bar food. The lines for food can get pretty long at dinner time on the weekend, but they do give you a pager to let you know when your order is ready to be picked up. During the day, there are a lot of young families there with small children, which, again, some might consider a drawback. Despite not having kids of my own, I actually like that they try to make an effort to accommodate the people who live nearby who might want to come out for a drink or a bite with the kids in tow. As it gets later, the families disappear and it can get a little bit sloppy late night, but nothing crazy. I enjoy coming here in the afternoon, having a few beers, grabbing some dinner and then heading out before it gets too late. Pretty chill place with a lot of different people all under one roof (or outside in one giant beer garden) enjoying the beer and the company. Recommended.

Fun atmosphere! Summertime Happy Hour must!

This place is great for a happy hour with co-workers or friends, especially in the summertime! The outside biergarten is a lot of fun, great pub food and great beer selection.

Seemed authentic right up until I picked up my plastic liter mug

With several trips to Munich for Oktoberfest, I was eager to experience this established beer garden. Nice variety of beer and atmospheres (outdoor beer garden, inside beer hall with oompah band, and bar area). Resembles what you might find in Germany in the size of beers, the food selections, level of security and the atmosphere. It does differ, though, in some key areas: 1. Plastic mugs - now this was a disappointment. Proper way to enjoy a beer is in a glass vessel. I did specify my preference for glass on follow-up servings, and they did fulfill this request. So, if you to avoid being treated like an underage drinker that cannot be trusted with glass, just ask. 2. Service - this is self-service establishment. No self-respecting beer hall in Munich would leave you hanging to fend for yourself. Not a huge deal, but a difference. 3. Food service - some of the food is downright awful. I am not sure who advised the kitchen on how to make a schnitzel, but they need to start over. You can choose from chicken or pork, and they look good, but they are ridiculously tough. Yes, even the chicken breast schnitzel was tough (dried out on the edges) and difficult to cut with the cheap plastic cutlery provided. If they need to use plastic, they should invest in some quality plastic wares. Overall it was still fun with friends, and I may go back. I will probably eat dinner elsewhere beforehand and then make certain to ask for my beer in a glass mug.

Beer and conversation paradise

Beer + beer + beer! Large space, own rules, simple but delicious food. Bring your friends, sit inside or outside and have a lot of fun! There is no servants, you have to order and pick up food. And grab more beer. Several bars are always busy.

Authentic Biergarten But FAKE GERMAN FOOD

I visited this restaurant with 3 other men. Three of us are of German ancestry and 2 of us have visited Germany. The setup is authentic with 2 large halls (inside bar-restaurant and an outside beergarden.) The food was horrible. The two " sausage sampler plates " with small sausages came overcooked with tough skins. The two Currywurst entree platters, consisting of large sausages, were better but not very tasty. More like something you might buy at a large supermarket than what you would expect in a German Restaurant. The French fries were acceptable but the sauerkraut was like something from a can and the spicy red cabbage would make a German burst into laughter. We also ordered potato salad. I love German potato salad but this didn't even come close. The deli counter at ShopRite is better. ONE GOOD AUTHENTIC THING: The bars were great and stocked with plenty of choices. Bartenders were friendly and fast. I'd go there again to sit and have a few beers with friends but NEVER to eat.
