Average food and service, not the best Chinese!
We were in town and hungry and it was right there, so we went and it just happened to be Valentines Day. It's literally a mom and pop shop or it was that night. We ordered the # 51 four family meal and it was a ton of food. The service was slow and I think they were overwhelmed with the number of people that night.
Excellent Service. Amazing Food
Very nice people best Chinese / Thai food I've ever had, I strongly recommend checking it out the next time your in British Columbia.
Good hours.. not so good food
Not very good. The pad Thai was more like chowmein and my husbands chowmein looked more like spaghetti. It was one of the few take out options open at the time... so good hours but not good food.
Chinese and Thai
Quick and friendly service, plentiful servings and tasty food. Several Chinese items and curries and pad thai, too.
Mediocre food
Coming from Vancouver and being spoiled by the best Chinese food on the planet maybe our expectations were a little high. This friendly family run business doesn't have the best Chinese food, we ordered take away and it was very expensive and cold, the prawns were soggy and veggies were over cooked I also waited over a half hour making it well over an hour and fifteen minutes from the phone call...... they weren't busy.... four people, I think they need to get more staff or at the least a person who can cook these dishes properly.
Disgraceful!!
I knew we shouldn't stay, but it was My buddy's turn to pick a restaurant. It was a Sunday evening and all there was was a buffet. I put a little what the owner called chow mien on my plate and a little fried rice. The chow mien was a bland noodle in cooked cabbage. Not a hint of a spice in sight. I could make better rice. I couldn't eat it. We complained to the owner. He insisted on full payment. I wish I could give it a lower rating. We left hungry and in search of a restaurant.
Excellent Chinese food
Just tried the Chinese menu and it was all delicious. Very fresh, hot and had a homemade taste. Have heard from the locals that of all the cruising they do, the Chinese is the best.
Good Asian food in family run restaurant
Ying cafe serves a variety of Chinese, Japanese and Thai dishes. The friendly proprietors are of Cantonese origin and the only non-Chinese dish we tried was the prawn tempura (good). The vegetarian pot stickers were particularly delicious.
Nice food with extra large portion, friendly service
Great value for your money. The owner Ronnie is well known in Rossland. Combination Fried Noddle is absolutely delicious. Very generous portion. Highly recommended.
Chinese with service
Ying Cafe was recommended to me while I was visiting Rossland. When we arrived at the cafe the doors were locked. The owner graciously unlocked the doors for us and invited us in. They promptly took our order for some delicious Won Ton soup and spring rolls. Both we served piping hot and delicious. They were very friendly and courteous and I would definitely go again!
Stopped in one evening
Stopped in later in the evening so I was the only one there. The food was quick, piping hot and the flavours were wonderful. The pot of tea was fragrant and fabulous and reasonably priced for all. The best part of the visit though was the service. The owners were fabulous so kind and friendly. The husband even played music for me on a Chinese instrument similar to a violin. Wonderful experience for a later evening stop. Would definitely go back!
Don't waste your money
With all the competition out there I would have thought they would have upped their game but still disappointing venue. Poor food, poor service.
Meh
The food was diverse but nothing was great. All mediocre. The curry especially was poor. Too bland and too many potatoes. Potatoes in Thai food? Anyways the service was decent. I think they need to focus on one country cuisine and nail it
bad experience of a Chinese restaurant
I ordered a combo meal with a coffee and the waitress brought me a coke, instead of a coffee. Also, the food was cold too. I wasn't happy that I got it....
The friendliness ensured we returned
Imagine...... we are walking through Rossland on Xmas Day, 10am or thereabouts. Nothing is open!!! Nothing. We glance in the Chinese Restaurant & we see the family having breakfast. The owner comes out & tells us that they are closed but if we would like, he will open for lunch - he wasn't supposed to be, but will do so. So we come back for lunch, NOTHING else is open. Nothing is going to be too much trouble, Chinese lunch (very tasty) & then he played the Chinese lute for us. Once again, a treasure - not what we normally look for but special. Anyway, don't forget Ronnie & his restaurant - He is the salt of the earth!
Poor service on return visit
We revisited the Ying Cafe with friends a year later tonight and were disappointed with the service. Having to ask for plates and forks for our main course.. only one other table occupied at time of our meal so very little local atmosphere although we provided our own.. a party of six. Curry was heavy sauce for Thai and a lot of vegetables / potatoes and had to search for meat! Sorry that the restaurant seems to have gone downhill since last year.. no pun intended for this ski town restaurant.. and wish we had chosen another location for a very special meal out with dear friends traveled far to be here.
Ying Cafe.... For The Win!!
Have been there twice, both meals were fantastic. Wonton soup is the best. Everything else, is just as good.
Incredible Wonton Soup!
The Wonton soup at Ying's Cafe is to die for! I've made the trip up to Rossland, solely for this reason. I can't speak for every dish on the menu, because I just keep ordering the soup over and over again. If you like Wonton soup as much as I do, you better head over to Yings.
Excellent tasty Thai
We visited this restaurant twice during our stay in Rossland in February and were super happy with our sit down visit but our take out another night was a little confused and was missing items and wrong curry BUT these folks were awesome and had us pick up a double serving of a delicious California roll the next day and were sincerely apologetic for mistakes! The food is fresh, well presented, tasty and good price and selection was great. We wish we had the Ying Café closer to home here in Alaska!
fresh thai food in rossland
Feb 26th, 2014. Tom Yum soup with prawns. Broth was delicious with lots of nice vegetables and prawns. Green Curry with beef. Not very green or basil-y, but good flavor and nicely spicy. Chicken with asparagus. Good flavor with lots of fresh vegetables. Everything was well cut, cooked and presented. Service was also good and glad to have Tsing Tao. I will go to the Ying Cafe again.
