I'd return - great place to stay
enjoyable stay. A bit tricky to find when high school boys stand in front of the entrance signage !!! Courteous staff, a decent bed, and good care of the customer. Chasing one's own filter water which could be refilled with the coffee / tea refill each day seems a bit fruitless.
Lovely, clean and friendly Hotel
The hotel is in an excellent location, with very friendly staff. Mandy is extremely helpful doing the shuttle service, taking us into town in the evening as the hotel only serves breakfast. The hotel is very clean with fantastic views of the rivers and cathedral. The only negative is no toiletries and refreshment of biscuits were left in the room after the 1st night. I would recommend this hotel for a lovely break away. I would definitely go back again.
Beautiful hotel
A very beautiful old hotel in an amazing setting, on a small river bank. The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional. The hotel was old but very, and lovely. In walking distance to the beautiful old town. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it further.
Numerous problems from start to finish
I emailed the hotel around a week ago about numerous problems we had during our stay and have yet to receive a response or any acknowledgement. While first impressions of the outside and reception were good during our 1 night stay, in room number 25, things quickly went downhill. The woman checking us in was eating when we arrived. Not the end of the world but I would have thought breaks would have been provided for this sort of thing? When we got to the room the lighting wasn't working, so someone had to come up and fix this. We were waiting around 10 minutes in our room in the dark for this to be fixed. There were no toiletries in the bathroom at all, not even a bar of soap. The hotel stated elsewhere they had some supply issues, but that they had spares at reception. Why wouldn't you just put these in our room then if you had " spares " ? You expect the guest to have to request the toiletries when you have some at reception? Even if there were supply issues, could someone not have gone to a supermarket and bought some soap and shampoo, or was every shop in Salisbury out of toiletries too ? I'm genuinely dumbfounded by this. There were urine stains on the underside of the toilet seat and a smell of urine. I see they have addressed this in an earlier review by stating it was " wear & tear " but the underside of the toilet seat was stained yellow. You can try and argue it wasn't urine if you want, but the facts are it was a stained toilet seat that needed replaced, and stained due to a lack of thorough cleaning. My toilet seat is 8 years old and doesn't look like that. Surely you could just replace the toilet seat at a cost of about £15, if by your own admission it was showing " wear & tear " ? The heating wasn't working as there was a small portable heater in the room. This wasn't a major issue as it was a warm day, however I can see from previous reviews other people have mentioned the same thing so it seems like the heating hasn't been working properly in all or some of the rooms for some time. In the morning, around 09:00 we heard 2 members of staff talking outside our room which was situated right across from the store cupboard. This woke us up and we had to listen to them talking loudly for 45 minutes while we were trying to relax. I presume this was housekeeping. Overall the stay was extremely disappointing so we left as soon as we got up, without having a shower as there were no toiletries. Some of the issues weren't a major problem, but they contributed to the overall disappointment. However the cleanliness of the toilet, the lack of toiletries and the staff talking loudly outside our room for such a prolonged period of time are really not acceptable. It also states on the Best Western / Word Hotels (distinctive range) website that your hotel is " 5-star luxury in the heart of historic Salisbury ". So you are portrayed as a 5 star hotel through one of your affiliate booking sites. If this isn't correct, which you have stated, then I would suggest speaking to them to the to get this removed so people aren't even more let down by the poor standards
Amazing hotel in an amazing city
We stayed in the riverside for a weekend away just the two and the riverside hotel was amazing! The staff were friendly and helpful from the start, the room was beautiful with a little garden patio set and beautiful countryside views. The breakfast is definitely worth the money and the whole place had a lovely atmosphere. It is quiet but then is a 15 minute pretty walk into town past the cathedral. Definitely worth it and we will be returning!
Loved the peace
We visited on recommendations, we were not disappointed!! Wonderful view of the river, fabulous service. We had a pizza, quite delicious!! My only little criticism is, a small tea cup of chips, costing £5.00, not good value. However those chips were amazing 😊. Finished with a lovely cup of coffee. We will be back.
Excellent choice for a shortbreak
Lovely room with a great view of the river and cathedral spire. Very friendly staff and the hotel has been tastefully refurbished. Gravel in car park difficult for towing luggage about. Food generally good although the roast chicken was a bit bland. Sadly they had run out of roast beef. Good choice for breakfast.
Beautiful place to stay
We have just got back from staying at the Riverside for our wedding anniversary. All I can say is, that it has been the best short break we have had. The food, beautiful (slightly on the pricey side but it was a special occasion so we didn't mind). The staff are wonderful and helpful in anyway they can. The room was gorgeous and the views are stunning.
Fantastic setting, great service
Stayed for one night and found the hotel to be top drawer. An elegant and stylish building, with a terrace looking across at the cathedral spire. The room was clean and well equipped, breakfast was lovely. The highlight however was Ellie who welcomed us with a complimentary glass of wine and was warm, professional and helpful throughout our stay - she tells us she's only worked here for 4 weeks but you'd never know. A real diamond and an asset to the hotel.
Well worth a return visit!
We only stayed one night, arriving after dinner time. Room 7 on the 2nd floor had a lovely view of Salisbury Cathedral, a very comfortable king bed, a cool en-suite bathroom. Breakfast on the patio was a perfect finish to our too short visit. The staff was friendly, professional, and efficient.
Date night at our wedding reception Venue
We had our wedding reception here in 2019 when it was still the Grasmere and hadn't been back since. We had seen it had been renovated recently so wanted to check it out and have a long overdue child free night. We were a little worried that we might not recognise it, but we were definitely pleasantly surprised. The updates have really brought new life to the hotel. We had dinner and probably a few too many drinks- the staff were amazing a food was great. The views were still extraordinary and it really makes an amazing setting for whether you want to enjoy a nice meal by the river or stay at the hotel. We will be coming back every year for our anniversary when we can.
Beautiful and friendly hotel
Such a lovely hotel! Fairly new and a new team. All staff were lovely and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. The bed was really comfortable and the room lovely and cool. Bathroom was very clean and a lovely shower! Kitchen catered for food allergies / dietary requirements.. I am gluten intolerant and they were more than happy to cater for my needs! All the food we had was brilliant- The steak was amazing!! Well worth the money. The decor and layout was lovely and the veranda was lovely to watch the sun go down from. The staff were all working really hard and we're so polite. A big thank you to Libby, Ellen and Mandy who served us pretty much all weekend. You are a credit to the team. A big well done to Camilla and the other manager who's name fails me now but both were absolutely lovely. We have fallen in love with the hotel and have already booked to go back.
