Not good changes at the PIN

I am a regular at the Pin was disappointed as the menu is cut in half and the prices are very high now. They have beeen raised. The usual quality of food was not there. The soup was inedible and the rest not its usual caliber. I won't be back as the quality and price don't match. Has the ownership changed???

One of the worst meals!

4.50 for a cup of coffee???? 5.00 for a dried out piece of chicken??? 19.00 for a starter size salad. 37.50 including tip for one person for lunch for a salad. Ridiculous and totally not worth it. The salad was very average. There are several good restaurants in town that serves a wonderful salad at least twice the size with lots of condiments on top and a sizeable hunk (s) of cheese. Last time I go here. I would've sent it back but I didn't want to embarrass the friends that I was with.

New Ownership?

Been to the Rolling Pin about 3 years ago and went back very recently. Not sure if there's new ownership but prices seemed higher and I don't remember paying $5 for a weak cup of coffee in the past.

Dinner a Disappointment

Beautiful setting, but it took over 2 hours to get our dinner. When it finally came the food was cold. So disappointed as I have been several times for lunch and it was lovely. The waitress kept apologizing about the delay and took a bit off our bill. There were only 4 of us and only 2 other tables. Would not go back for dinner after this experience.

Brunch for the ages!

Me and my family had brunch at The Pin and it was absolutely incredible. I had the veggie eggs Benny on a crepe and it was one of the best bennies I've ever had. The hollandaise was hands down the best and the ambiance and presentation were perfect. Andrea and Tammy (our severs) were also wonderful and at tentative. I highly recommend this place for brunch and I know I will certainly be back❤

Terrific Meal!

This restaurant is now called The Pin. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch with fantastic service. Will definitely return. Thank you.

Excellent lunch to be had here

This was our first visit - ordered eggs benedict crepe with soup - very good... only criticism would be that the crepe was so small and thin hardly noticed it amongst the toppings. Excellent broccoli soup. My husband had the western on a croissant and loved it too. We will be back for sure.

High Tea in a lovely setting

This tea room is in a heritage-type house. The downstairs has been converted into a tea room (actually 3 rooms). It is cosy and one is capable of having private conversations. The salads are diverse, and mine had spring mix, candied pecans, soft goat cheese and warm beets in it. It was a meal in itself, but I also had dessert and tea. There is a large selection of teas and charming tea cups with saucers.

Great place for formal family dinner

We are a family of Scots visiting our son / grandson. We wanted a restaurant that would suit all tastes including grandma, mum and dad, son and girlfriend, auntie and husband. This place does a formal 3 course dinner that suited everyone. The food is well prepared using seasonal varieties, is very tasty and excellently served. The wine section paired beautifully with the food. Our server had visited Scotland so their was a bit of banter which made us feel right at home. We enjoyed it so much we booked for another dinner on Hogmanay as well.

Great for afternoon tea or a ladies lunch

Great for afternoon tea or a ladies lunch. The food is good and the atmosphere is very quaint. It is a typical tea house. The desserts are quite outstanding.

This place is excellent!

Best chicken, avocado sandwich in town. Wonderful Caesar salad with a bacon jam. Menu is changed seasonally. Lovely ice tea drinks. Frilly atmosphere makes it a popular choice with the ladies but gentlemen don't be fooled. You'll love it too.

What a delicious surprise!

Some of my friends mentioned THE PIN as their favourite restaurant. I didn't know it existed. Wow! We were not disappointed. Everything was wonderful. The food, the service, the place, the atmosphere, everything was perfect. I will come back for sure. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ! My adult sons needed to bring some food home. Great restaurant with fantastic staff.

High Tea

The food and presentation were excellent. The atmosphere was appropriate for an old fashion high tea. The staff was very friendly. We took my 82 year old Mother for her Birthday, and she loved it. We are looking forward to eating there again, and will try the dinner menu.

Still Yummy

We try to come to The Pin (formerly The Magic Rolling Pin) with family each time we are visiting in Peterborough. It is such a cozy spot in an old Victorian house, so nicely decorated. Most recently, I had the Chicken and Strawberry Crepe with the Pear Salad, which was very good. Of course, I saved room for an excellent pecan tart for dessert, with good coffee. Service was prompt, and pleasant. The other 4 family members were equally pleased with their choices. Parking can be a bit difficult, and the driver did have to run out to move the car once.

Now Serving Dinner

We went to The Pin which is in its second week of dinner service. The meal was excellent. Cooked to perfection seasoned just right. Now licensed under AGCO. The Crumbled Cheesecake with raspberry puree was delicious. Fantastic fresh cooked food at reasonable prices. We have been waiting for a restaurant like this.

The Pin - Through the Looking Glass

In a beautiful setting in downtown Peterborough, you somehow step back in time to a quaint time of " tea on the terrace ". My sister and I had a Victorian lunch of chicken salad sandwiches, fresh greens and salads and of course, a variety of teas served in a dainty teacup on the wrap around porch of this lovely old house / restaurant. They also serve High Tea each afternoon and there is a wide selection of teas to choose from. The food was delicious and the atmosphere and service were excellent! I'll definitely be back for lunch and High Tea and they now offer a dinner menu Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays!

Change the name!! It is no longer The Magic Rolling Pin!!

Incredible food. Go find out for yourself. I go to Peterborough regularly and have had difficulty finding a place with reasonable food. (I admit that I am a Toronto based food snob.) We discovered this place a few weeks ago and were delighted. The choices are somewhat limited but this allows them to do what they do very well. Everything I have tasted there is well executed with proper seasoning, successful cooking techniques and good finishes. I also really like the salad " bowl " on the plate made with a strip of cucumber. I have also found the staff kind, friendly and helpful. If you are looking for a nice meal in Peterborough, give The Pin a try.

A Quaint Home Styled Restaurant

First of all the name and ownership is now " the Pin " owned by Nadene Crough, we were a group of 16 for lunch, only request was to be there by 11:30 so that we could be on order before their regular customers arrived. I do believe that our meals were better than the last time there and they were great then too. Small rooms set up on the main floor for dining. Nice table settings and many choices of tea.

2018-09-30 18:33:46

Very disappointing

The pickle was much larger than the sandwich! One thin whisper of meat on it! Another sandwich had as much salad on it as my side salad! The waitress took it back to the kitchen to show the cook she was so upset herself! We will never return

Very let down by service at high tea

My grandmother made reservations for high tea for 3, at 2:30pm. Originally she wanted to make the reservation for 3pm, but was told " you won't have enough time, we suggest you do 2:30. " So that's what we did. We showed up 15 minutes early and stood around for about 5 minutes before we were seated. About 15 minutes past being seated we were served our tea, which we drank before our food even got to us. The table next to us, who arrived later than we did, were served (by our surprise) before we were. We were thinking, " how did that happen? " We weren't served our food until about 3:10pm. We might as well have made the reservation for 3pm after all. It felt like we had to rush to finish, as the place closes at 3:30. The food tasted very good, but seemed to be somewhat lacking (scones were tiny, " sandwiches " only had one slice of bread on the bottom) and it was fun to go to high tea, but the service was unfortunately a bad experience for us.

Excellent meal

Delicious crepe lunch! Would go back again Lovely tea room atmosphere... would love to try high tea next time.

Treat Your T-Buds

Consistent fresh menu items with delicious variety. Not your usual cafe fare. A little pricey, but often worth it.

Unpleasant visit

It was my second visit to The Pin and one that I was very much looking forward to with my best friends and one of their moms who was visiting from overseas. I made the reservation for us at 3pm on a Saturday. Two of us arrived at 2:50pm. Upon arrival, the two of us were escorted to our table while we wait for the other parties. Our waitress was unfortunately, not very friendly. We were asked twice if the rest of the party will be arriving soon (It wasn't even 3pm yet). We were served our tea and food very quickly when all of us arrived. We were all seated by 3pm. While dining, we felt uncomfortable as our waitress were looking over our table many times (like we were being prompted to wrap up and leave quickly). By this time, around 3:20pm, we were the only guests in the restaurant. Our plates were cleared out of our table as soon as we were done with them. We were once interrupted while we were conversing with one another, just so that our plates could be cleared from the table. We felt very uncomfortable staying any longer and eventually left around 3:40pm. On our way out, we realized the hours of the restaurant's operation for Saturday is 10:30am to 3:30pm. Why book us for a high tea reservation at 3PM and expect us to eat and dine quickly and be done by 3:30pm? We were all looking forward to catching up with one another and to experience a nice afternoon of tea together. We felt rushed throughout our high tea experience, one that all of us were really looking forward to. It definitely is not worth paying $30 per person. This experience has left us all disappointed, we will not be visiting again.

Cute Tea House

My boyfriend had the patience and willingness to take me out for breakfast at this pleasant tea house. This is the perfect restaurant for a mother daughter meal as it is a very feminine restaurant. We ordered the Eggs Benedict on the menu and were very impressed with the quality of the meal. The eggs were poached perfectly and the Hollandaise sauce was very fresh and well prepared. Our server was accommodating and pleasant to have a conversation with. I will definitely return with my Mom or Grandmother to enjoy a lovely brunch with some tea.

Small Portions

The food is superb, although the portions are quite small. Great if you're just looking for a light lunch or tea and dessert, but not ideal for anyone with a large appetite.

2017-11-09 12:14:49

Great Tea House

We are 4 " girls " who took our friend there for a Birthday lunch yesterday; we reserved a table (a must). The service was great and our lunch was amazing! the only downside is they don't serve Wine; but after all it is a tea house...

2017-11-02 18:32:15

Wow! This place is amazing!

I wish I could go back right now! The attention to detail and the casual yet elegant touches at the Magic Rolling Pin were really great. They don't really match the name. Loved the linens on the table and the fine china. The food was also top notch: the scattered pomegranate seeds on the mixed greens salad, the tiny hour glass that gave you the 3 minute signal when your tea has steeped, the extra small dish of grainy mustard for the rueben sandwich.... YUM! My friends had the crepes and said they were exceptional and they raved about the scones. Everything was so good. The only sad part was not having enough room for dessert cause they looked amazing. And reasonably priced. Seriously, can't wait to go back. Reservations recommended.

2017-10-28 10:55:47

Wonderful

My girlfriend took me a surprise treat lunch.... it was amazing. I had the chicken sandwich... delicious with a wonderful salad that was bright and refreshing.... the atmosphere was quaint and felt like we were back in grandmas parlour.... bought some scones for breakfast... heavenly!!!

Thank you Google for telling us about this gem!

We were driving through Peterborough and googled restaurants nearby. " The Pin " popped up. We were looking for a nice light lunch. Google maps gave directions. We were pleasantly surprised. A great little spot with terrific food and atmosphere. Service was great too, even though they were full to capacity. We were lucky to get a table without a reservation.

2017-10-11 19:26:09

Luncheon with family

A lovely decor in a former private home. We had the tomato chili style soup which was a little cool. we had the eggs benedict quiche and the seafood quiche, which were both excellent.

2017-09-27 17:25:38

Awesome catering!

Nick & Nat did an awesome job making our hors d'oeuvres for our wedding venue. Everyone loved the good & prices were more than reasonable. Went to their tea house for lunch & was blown away with the service & stuffed meatballs. Definitely recommend their establishment for a quiet lunch or tea & pie. Also if needing a caterer give them a call 2st before anyone else!

Very special menu; really delicious food; excellent customer service!

I originally wanted to reserve a table during the long weekend but they closed. I have been to this restaurant before and really love their customer service and food, thus I ended up reserving a table (for 10; for a family trip; with little kids) on the Wednesday after that weekend. Oh my, their food was just so good. I had a Chicken Strawberry Crepe (chicken, sliced strawberries and Havarti cheese rolled in their signature spinach crepe and topped with a brie béchamel sauce; see pic). The crepe is chicken flavour with a bit of sweetness from the strawberries and the chocolate sauce. Mmmmmm The crepe comes with a fruit salad (and a scone) and I added their soup of the day. A family had their Chicken Ciabatta Sandwich (roasted chicken breast with Havarti cheese, avocado, caramelized onions, sundried tomato mayonnaise and their signature bacon jam on a grilled ciabatta bun). It was so good that his wife ended up buying a jar of their bacon jam home. I have to say it's a great restaurant; excellent customer service; yummy food; great atmosphere. Highly recommended!!!

Fantastic little place

This is a great little place. I went for lunch with my grandfather who had been there before. They have a great healthy lunch menu with big portions and delicious home grown food. My grandfather had the quiche which came with a fruit salad and a scone. The quiche piece was very big and very tasty. I ordered the sweet potato salad which came with a plethora of goodies like sweet potato wedges and avocado on top of a large bowl of kale and lettuce. It was amazing! They have a large selection of specialty teas, we had Japanese green. They have lots of different home made deserts such as butter tarts, cake, and mixed berry pies and a tea time special. I would definitely reccomend this place for lunch or afternoon tea if you're in the area. ^ _ ^

2017-05-29 21:23:35

Always a wonderful treat!

Once again a lovely lunch at The Magic Rolling Pin! Staff is always so friendly, and the food is amazing. Three of us had the chicken ceasar wrap with bacon jam, just mouth watering is all I can say about that.. And my daughter had the egg salad on a croissant..👍👍 To finish off our lovely lunch, we had dessert... l had the always delicious raspberry scone with devonshire cream, raspberry jam and whip cream. Youngest daughter had the avacodo and lemon, key lime pie, which she loved... Oldest daughter had the fruit pie, with mixed berries and rhubarb... Another happy camper.. Cannot say enough good things about this lovely little tearoom in the middle of Peterborough... You won't be disappointed!!

2017-05-24 09:54:02

A must for lunch

I've been to this establishment multiple times and highly recommend it. A varied menu with something for everyone, I believe.

2017-05-23 09:28:15

Excellent atmosphere and service!

Love this little gem. Great food and excellent service. Nice pastries, too! The food is always fresh.

2017-05-17 18:34:33

Mother's Day High Tea

Great atmosphere, a bit expensive for what you get. Probably won't do it again. They were able to accommodate a table of 14.

2017-05-02 20:58:10

Lovely!!!!!!

When in not having any expectations, came out wanting to go back again. So many amazing healthy options, fresh food !!!! So tasty can't wait to go back and try something else. Crapes were absolutely out of this world delicious. Staff was fantastic attentive the selection of tease was amazing. A sweet little place with incredible food.

Elegant & fun High Tea!

What an adventure we had at the Magic Rolling Pin! I went for High Tea with a friend and we had so much fun. From the moment we made reservations and the manager asking us if we are bringing our Tea hats or will be be borrowing the wide selection of their tea hats. It set the mood for a fun. filled fabulous High tea experience for us. Yes, we borrowed their hats and of course the red feather boa! The high tea was spectacular and they were very accommodating to my special gluten free diet. I was expecting it to be limited but I was spoiled. Their selections of Teas were amazing and we loved how they served our wonderful nibbles. The atmosphere is so original and warm! Excellent tea menu, food is made fresh and out of this world and the service is amazing. My favourite place in Peterborough!

2017-03-18 20:10:50

Most of us were pleased but

We made reservations at the Magic Rolling Pin for a mother daughter's lunch. It is a lovely venue for this. Service is fast and friendly and food presentation is beautiful. I had the warm beet salad served with a biscuit and it was delicious. Mom had the Greek Salad which she enjoyed. Sadly my sister's choice left her feeling unwell. She had the Sweet Potato and Onion Soup which was cold and a Chicken Crepe which was hard to cut. Deserts were fantastic and definitely their shining star. Hopefully the next visit will leave us all 100% happy.

An oasis of refinement in downtown Peterborough!

Everything I have had here is delicious, hand made, and served in large quantities. The sandwiches, quiches, soups are always top-notch, but it's the desserts and baking that are the cream of the crop here. A High Tea is available (reservations a couple of days in advance are required), and while we have yet to do that, we plan on it one day. Set in an old house on King St, the food and atmosphere take you back to a slower, more refined time. Well done!

2016-12-26 13:08:56

not impressed

Not impressed with the food or the prices. I could easily make the same meal at home and it would taste way better then here. Stay home and save our money

2016-12-15 16:27:51

Nice place for a Ladies lunch

I have been to this restaurant a couple times with my Aunts, Grandmother and mother. It is a pleasant place to eat, with good quality foods. My only concerns were that even though my mom had indicated when ordering that she eats GF, her salad still arrived at the table with a NON GF tea biscuit (this has happen every time she eats at this restaurant). Also, when I asked about and ordered shrimp to be added to my salad, I asked what weight it was as I needed 6oz of protein for my meal (which when I weight shrimp at home, is approx 8-9 med. reg. shrimp give or take). I was told that it was just under 6oz. Well when I got my salad, I had to search for 4 measly shrimp. So, just a heads up, it's not worth $6+ to add shrimp to your meal (the chicken might have been a better choice).

2016-12-07 21:25:23

Great food with an incredible atmosphere!

I had the pleasure of enjoying an amazing lunch with family at the Magic Rolling Pin. The deep dish quiche was so flavorful and absolutely delicious. It was accompanied with an amazing salad including home made dressing. To top it off was an amazing coffee and the best butter tarts I have ever had!

2016-11-27 13:50:14

A magical experience

I had the opportunity to visit this quaint little restaurant Nov 2016. They offered true old fashioned customer service. Our lunch was homemade, fresh and delicious! We were not rushed at all and were able to enjoy a very comfortable relaxing lunch. I would recommend trying their Poached Peach Salad and Seafood Crepe! I look forward to my next trip to Peterborough to treat my taste buds! Although it wasn't to busy during the time I was there, I might suggest reservations, as it was filling up.

2016-11-14 19:45:18

Amazing Lunch

Based on the reviews on Trip Advisor I stopped in here for lunch after a business meeting. The quiche was out of this world - light, fluffy - delicious. Desserts were definitely worth the calories. (Try the pecan tarts.) Our server was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I definitely would visit again.

2016-10-26 15:25:47

Amazing little gem in Peterborough

We tried this place last year while on a drive, as recommended on tripadvisor. We didn't have reservations, but managed to find a table. We were not disappointed. So while on a day trip to see fall colours last week, I called on the way and made reservations. Once again we were very pleased with our lunch. I had a chicken crepe, with the most delicious tarragon sauce. Their salads are served inside a cucumber wrapped circle. Would highly recommend this quaint little restaurant. Please make reservations so you aren't disappointed.

2016-10-24 15:54:57

Great Atmosphere! Nice Lunch

We got there in the nick of time and without a reservation. Shortly after we arrived they had to turn people away. Even with the restaurant being busy, we received our food within a good amount of time. My Rueben was delicious and I love how they presented their side salad (horizontal sliced cucumbers surrounded the lettuce in the middle) My husband had the quiche but it was runny. We shared a butter tart for dessert which was delicious. Our bill was only $33. That was impressive!

2016-10-22 00:06:38

Charming place, tasty food

Walked into this very homey place to be greeted by the cheery and friendly women working there. Food was very tasty -- quiche was surprisingly light (tho still filling), and apple crepe had great flavour. Nice selection of teas.

Peterborough Ontario Canada

With my Canadian Family we went to the " Magic Rolling Pin " Resturant in Peterborough, wonderful " cottage " atmosphere, very friendly people and a very warm welcome. My meal (of which there are many to choose from) was ham and cheese crepe, a good choice for me. For dessert I had raspberry scone with cream and homemade raspberry jelly. All food was homemade. Everything very nicely served, I really felt at home. A definite must.

Reunion with an old friend

I like to meet up with my high school friend when I go back to Peterborough for a visit. We arrived at the Magic Rolling Pin and were surprised at the quaint charm and lovely atmosphere. The service was attentive and timely and the food was excellent. The cheesecake was perfect! Definitely a fantastic place for lunch and some tea times!

2015-03-29 22:42:41

Awesome high tea experience!

Surprised my daughter with a high tea experience. The Magic Rolling Pin did not disappoint. Atmosphere was wonderful, three tier tray of goodies were delicious and tea was steeped to perfection and fabulous! Also ordered the Harvest Vegetable Quinoa Stack and the Chicken Crepe. Both were outstanding. Very prompt and friendly waitress. Clean and cozy establishment. Great place to take a mid-day break. Small parking lot at rear of building, otherwise street parking. Highly recommend and can't wait to visit again.

High Tea at it it's best

A friend a and I enjoyed a wonderful treat today, a traditional high tea. The Chef was very accomodating about a a food allergy. Even came out to discuss and make sure everything was ok

2012-08-17 18:00:18

so so

I found the menu to be extremely overpriced and this establishment caters to the older generation. was not comfortable at all.

2015-03-24 15:09:46

Over-rated

Nice place and friendly staff but quiche was cold and soggy, tea bisquit spongy and it tasted like yesterday's lettuce in the salad. Coffee was very nice and wide selection of teas. Server tried way too hard to sell dessert. Not going back.

2012-10-15 17:40:30

Wrong Time of day

For a small birthday celebration we went at 3 pm..... they close at 4.30. I called ahead to find out if this would be ok and was assured the full menu would be available. It was empty when we arrived, obviously their rush was over, and they made no attempt to please us at all. Only three desserts were offered. They were nothing special, no milk or sugar, had to ask for everything. And had to go looking for service. The placemats had been removed, and it was very, very quiet. The handyman was chaining down the chairs on the patio, and obviously ready to close. A beautiful place, but we won't go back.

2015-03-25 19:49:04

Great lunch, with great friends!

Such a great little tea room... had a wonderful lunch, pot of lovely tea, and finished off with a very yummy dessert scone!

2012-07-14 17:27:46

A delightful spot for a spot of tea!!!

This place is small, serves delicious lunches and amazing desserts. Dainty cups and saucers as well as lace tablecloths add to the " quaint " ambiance. My only concern is that the tables are so very close to each other.

2015-03-14 10:23:59

Cute resturant

We went here for lunch the other day. It's like a house made into resturant. Very nice. Lots of different really good teas. The food was also very good. The cheesecake was awesome as was the service. Can't wait unitil I have the opportunity to return.

The Magic Rolling Pin: What a delight!

I recently had lunch at The Magic Rolling Pin, and the experience was top-notch, starting with the ease booking reservations online. The new Fall menu has just been offered, and it is full of tempting, delicious dishes that feature the bounty of Fall harvest. I had the poached peach salad, and it was incredibly delicious! The salad was definitely a meal in itself, but I saved room for a slice of the homemade coconut cream pie. If you are looking for just the right place for a delicious lunch with friends, you will be delighted with this little gem.

2015-03-17 14:27:12

Delicious and Charming

This is one of the most charming venues in Peterborough; several eating areas in a lovely old house. Tables are adorned with traditional linens and Grandma's bone china cups and saucers. The tea menu is awesome and tea is seved in a china teapot complete with infusion timer and individual cup strainer. The lunch menu is incredible and mouth-wateringly delish! And there are almost no words to give proper credit to their desserts; suffice it to say nothing will disappoint. The Magic Rolling Pin is my favourite lunch meeting place!

Relax with Friends

This is one of the most charming places I have been. Especially lovely for lunch with friends to relax and catch up and forget about the hectic days we all live.

Never Disappointed

I never miss the opportunity to visit this restaurant when I am in Peterborough. It is a step back in time, when life was simple and service was something to be proud of and food was meant to be enjoyed. A friendly knowledgable staff will greet and serve you. The amazing specials are something you don't want to miss--a sure reason to make a reservation so you don't miss out on the chance to experience this Peterborough gem. Dessert is something to celebrate and make room for here because all are made fresh daily. Homemade is always best! Another great lunch!

Lovely English tea room

Lovely old house w / little tables w / china cups of tea complete w / tea strainers and embroidered cloths on the tables. I had the soup, salad, and sandwich combo. The soup was a delicately flavoured minted pea, half sandwich of black forest ham and provolone, and tossed greens w / poppy seed dressing. Herbal tea was wonderful, not even needing sweetner. Melt in your mouth, drippy butter tart for dessert! Allow plenty of time (over 90 min.). You'll want to return for sure!

Home baking and lovely environment

It's quaint, quiet and delicious. Bring your mom! Lace table clothes and old charm. The food and the baking are all home made and each room has a different character. One room feels like a gentlemens room.

Something a little different

The Magic Rolling Pin has recently been bought by the chef and his wife. if you want something a little different from the chain restaurants try here. Open for lunch and tea, pretty china, tablecloths and a nice setting in an old house. Lots of different teas served properly. Good food and a pleasant atmosphere.

Disappointing Lunch

Haven't been here for a couple of years so was looking forward to going back. I ordered the seafood crepe which I have had a couple of times here before. Salmon was dry and I initially had trouble identifying what it was. Scallops and shrimp were also overcooked but not as much as the salmon. Crepe not presented well on plate. All crumpled into a bunch. Generally better than this visit. Service and atmosphere was pleasant.

Great Experience but NOT Devonshire cream!

My husband and I went to The Magic Rolling Pin last weekend for our Anniversary. We wanted the afternoon tea and made the reservations in advanced as they require reservations for the proper tea. The place was beautiful and quaint and they had an excellent selection of teas. Our tea came with the 3 tiered tray of fresh scones, finger sandwiches, and petite fours. Everything was beautiful and delicious, especially the scones, finger sandwiches, and lemon curds. Our only gripe would be that the cream they served and called Devonshire is NOT Devonshire but Chantilly. Devonshire should have the consistency similar to butter and is slightly yellow in colour. Our cream was basically very soft and white. We mentioned it to our server and she said it was a different recipe. We did ask a scottish lady at the next table and she said that the cream was delicious, but we were right, it wasn't Devonshire. Beside that, I wish we could have stayed for more if they didn't close at 4 on Saturday!

Excellent food and atmosphere

It was the first time I ever had a fancy tea related experience and it was awesome. The inside is clean and excellently decorated and the food is foolishly good. Everything is made on site and the scones are ridiculously good. They have a great selection of teas and the one I tried was freaking great and came in cool china.

Delightful

Have heard about this restaurant for a few years now & finally had an opportunity to experience it. What a delight! Beautiful old house restored while still maintaining it's charm. An amazing selection of teas served in proper tea cups. An extensive menu for lunch. Even my husband found something to his liking in a tea room! He enjoyed beef bourgignone & ceaser salad. -both excellent. I loved my chicken pot pie and sweet potato and lime soup. We really treated ourselves with Millionaire pie for dessert. Decadent but so worth it. Our server, Mary Rose, was very attentive & we loved that her name was so appropriate for the setting. Highly recommend this charming restaurant but you will need a reservation.

Quaint home style restaurant

I visited this Tea Room, Restaurant November, 2014 with a group of Ladies and was impressed with the quaint décor and very home made food menu. Everything is made on the premises and daily. Service was delightful and describes in detail the menu. They also do catering. The price is reasonable and their Coconut cream pie was the best I've ever had. They believe in putting real coconut in the filling (not just as a custard).

Delicious Elegance

The Magic Rolling Pin was an amazing experience. I was there with a group of girls from my office, celebrating the new baby that was just about ready to arrive. We were greeted with smiling faces, the staff was helpful is walking us through the menu options and feature items, and the atmosphere was so lovely and perfect for a nice afternoon tea & lunch. I will definitely be back with family and friends - for those " just because " lunches, or a special occasion. What I had: Vanilla chai tea, grilled vegetable quinoa stack, and apple pie for dessert. Everything was truly delicious, but the apple pie was hands down the BEST I have ever had. Not a single complaint from anyone in the group.

I Can't Keep A Secret!

I am so glad I stumbled across this place on trip advisor! My friend and I went to The Magic Rolling Pin today and it is now officially a favourite lunch spot. The service was impeccable and the food was imaginative, tasty and seconds worthy... but trust me, don't go for seconds as you'll want to leave room for dessert! The owner is also the Chef and obviously passionate about what he does. Your secret's out! I will tell everyone I know how amazing The Magic Rolling Pin is.

The Magic Rolling Pin is like a luxurious and tasty spa for the tummy

The Magic Rolling Pin is my dining destination of choice when I need to feel pampered and special. It is also the place I take colleagues or friends when I want them to feel they really count. The food is so special, always fresh, delicious and beautifully presented. I particularly enjoy the High Tea because no effort is spared on a traditional, elegant afternoon tea complete with delicate sandwiches, scones with Devon cream, home made jams, preserves and exquisite dessert tarts. This is an unapologetic women's tea room. Exceptional food is served by friendly staff in an unhurried and positive atmosphere, The Magic Rolling Pin is ideal for private conversation and business lunches.

A wonderfully quiet relaxing place to go to catch up and / or just get away from activities of life. offers a few specific varieties of foods and a wide variety of teas. rather challenging to choose but opportunity to go back again and try a different one or take one home with you. a lovely tea room.

Excellent lunch!

Good wholesome ingredients and attention to details. Great flavours at a reasonable price. The selection of teas is wonderful, and dessert is divine.

Yummy High Tea!

Visited for a mother-daughter birthday treat with friends (another mother & daughter). Service was excellent. We were greeted and seated as soon as we walked in the door. Orders were taken promptly and staff fulfilled all requests in a professional & timely manner. Attention was excellent. Staff were friendly and explained the menu specifics. They didn't hover but were available when needed. We felt very posh but also very relaxed! Food & Beverage were excellent. The tea was so flavoursome and the waitress recommended a lovely iced tea for the girls. The 3-tiered high-tea food stand was amazing; well presented and a great selection of sweet and savoury. We didn't think we'd get through all the food but we did and it was super yummy! Will definitely visit again and highly recommend to others.

A real gem.

Always a delicious and relaxing lunch. Service is good and menu selections are light and well-prepared.

Fresh

The place is quaint and the food is very fresh. I had soup and salad, and enjoyed every mouthful. I went with my Mum and two other ladies. It seems to be a place for the over 50 crowd.

Love this little gem!

Natalie and Nick make you feel right at home AND their delectable amazing magic raspberry scones dripping with cream and jam are not to be missed. Truly a step into pampering you. Don't miss this little gem.

the food is very good however...

We went with a group of people and yes we phoned and made a reservation for lunch. Well it seemed that another group had a reservation with around the same number in the group as us. I arrived a little early and the told the woman who we were for the reservation and she just about bit my head off. " are you sure your not the other last name reservation was ", I assured her that no we are who we say we are. At any rate it was good that I showed early as the other reservation showed up with no where to sit them. That would have been us. Get your act together, communication is key. The food very good and will go again, and hopefully not be treated so badly. Cheers

Great service and amazing food

The quiche (chicken, leek and four cheeses) was the best I've ever had, wonderful pastry and the filling was so silky smooth and full of flavour, yum, yum. For my side I chose the peach salad which was incredible-lovely, fresh greens topped with warm poached peaches, goat cheese, almonds and bacon wrapped figs that were to die for. There was also a nice tea biscuit on the plate as well, but I was too full to eat it! Our waitress was very attentive and friendly, as was the hostess. Can't wait to go back!

OMG!!!!!

I had heard great things about this restaurant / Tea room from my family and friends. So my wife and I where in Peterborough for the weekend and decided to go see what all the hype was about. Well, the reviews I had received from family and friends might have been an slight understatement! It might have been one of the most enjoyable meals I've ever had!! The Seafood Crepe was simply amazing, and my wife had the Quiche du Jour, which she absolutely loved. The choice of delicious desserts and pastries was almost impossible to choose from. The pies, tarts, and cakes each had there once allure. My wife just loved the Mile High apple pie. I truly enjoyed the Apple carrot maple glazed cake. I believe that's what it was called. We also bought some specialty loose leaf teas which they sell there. As it is not set in a traditional restaurant setting, but built into a beautiful Century home just a block or two off the beaten path of the main strip, parking was easy to find, and a lot quieter, especially on their massive patio. The service was great, very happy staff, and the owner is there to greet you like this was her very own home. Very reasonably priced. It was a truly enjoyable experience. We will be back for sure.

Visit for the dessert alone!

My Father took me here recently to celebrate my Birthday. I was so pleasantly surprised! The food was delicious and the portions are the perfect size for a light lunch. What would get me back through that door in a heartbeat though are the desserts. Keep in mind I am not a dessert, or sweet, eater. I cannot resist lemon desserts though and they have a to DIE for lemon curd tart. My father got the mixed berry scone. Well, I'm not sure which one I loved more. Please give this place a try, you will not be disappointed!

Girls Trip

We are a group of girls that get together once a year for some " Girl Time ". We have chosen our destinations for various reasons - this time " the magic rolling pin " was chosen over the actual city of Peterborough. Our visit to this magic restaurant was all that it promised to be on the website. The food was completely amazing, the staff is warm and inviting and very informative about teas and the matching of foods with the extensive variety of loose leaf teas they have to offer. The cinnamon swirl cookies will make all your dreams come true!! We will be back for more.

Amazing experience--will definitely be back

My daughter and I had the pleasure of having lunch at this small piece of heaven. Attention to detail is evident from the moment you step onto the brick path leading into the restaurant, and continues on where you are greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. The decor is elegant and peaceful. The service is excellent, the food is presented beautifully and the taste of fresh ingredients and flavor will not disappoint. Make sure you save room for dessert, which is baked fresh daily. The butter tarts are truly wonderful. I plan to visit often, for there is much to savor on this menu. I would recommend making a reservation as they fill up fast---Don't miss out on this experience.
