About Cafe L'Acadie Inc

Café l'Acadie is a SEASONAL liquor-licensed full menu restaurant open from early April until the end of November. Café l'Acadie's owner Gary Le Blanc was born into a large Acadian family where both parents hail from the Acadian village of Cheticamp Nova Scotia area and with an enormous extended family, Acadian food, music and culture were the heartbeat of family life. Café l'Acadie brings many of these Acadian culinary treasures from my ancestors' kitchens to our dining room to share this rich history of delicious food. Café l'Acadie opened its doors on May 5, 2012 and we have moved from Bedford NS to Indian Harbour NS, just 2km from Peggy's Cove.

Good lobster roll

House cut fries & fresh lobster roll. Yummy!! Haddock was delish, too. Gary, our server, was so nice. Doesn't look like much but looks can be deceiving. Stop in!

Delicious home style cooking and Acadian specialties

We had dinner at Cafe L'Acadie and liked it so much we came back for lunch the next day. This is my very favorite kind of restaurant food -- homey genuine comfort food that's better than I can make at home and at great prices, too. Getting to try Acadian specialities that you can't get everywhere else is a particular bonus. I loved the fish chowder (and I don't generally like fish chowder). Not too fishy, mild but very flavorful. My husband had the fish cakes and said they were as delicious as his Acadian family's recipe. :). We also had the potato pancakes twice and thought they were a delicious vehicle for molasses. Also loved the Pouding Chomeur for desert; again, delicious, simple, homey, comfort desert. We will be back for sure next time we're in the area.

Spécialités acadiennes

Accueil chaleureux et restaurant lumineux. Je me suis régalée avec les spécialités acadiennes la râpure (rappie pie) et le pudding chômeur. Attention le restaurant ferme tôt à 19:00.

Definitely need a return visit

We have driven past this restaurant on all of our previous trips to Peggy's Cove. Today was the day to stop in for lunch. The restaurant was quiet, and the first thing we noticed was how spotlessly clean and tidy it was. First impression was a good one! The chef came out to greet us personally and he was wearing a professional chef's jacket which also made for a good impression. He was friendly and made you feel at home. After looking at the menu, we made our choice. It was difficult... so many things we wanted to try! Hubby ordered the lobster roll, and I ordered the hot creamed lobster on a waffle.. with a side salad. Something different to try! The lobster roll was a thing of beauty. Not served on your typical hot dog bun, but a large hamburger-style roll. A single leaf of lettuce provided the bed for a large amount of lobster. It was packed full of lobster meat blended with just the right amount of mayonnaise. The handcut french fries were excellent. The hot creamed lobster was also tasty... very rich but delicious. Served over a waffle instead of toast was a nice, and inventive touch. The side salad was made so tasty with their housemade salad dressing of sweet onion and poppyseed. It was fantastic! Will we return? Absolutely. Their attention to cleanliness, professionalism and good Acadian seafood recipes got our vote. Now what to try next...

Great Breakfast

My wife and I decided to go to Cafe l'Acadie for breakfast and give them a try. The first thing we noticed was how clean the restaurant was, it was spotless and smelled clean. It was a beautiful morning with the sun shining in the windows with fresh air coming in the open windows. I had the big Farmers breakfast, my wife had the Western omelette, both were delicious.

Fresh delicious food

We enjoyed the fresh seafood and they had a large variety on the menu. They have a lot of gluten free options including really amazing GF biscuits. The normal biscuits were really good too.

Out of the path, friendly and very good

Quiet place, very good local food. Clean. Service was very good and friendly. This is very close to Peggy's Cove lighthouse and better, less crowds and more friendly.

Delightful

Our first evening in Indian Harbour we visited for supper. On opening the door we were warmly welcomed and seated but even more striking was the shiney, clean interior. Every corner spotless, pretty table decoration, windows to open easily for a cooling breeze on this warm eve. The lobster roll on homemade bun, was generous and delicious, with great fries and tangy coleslaw. The salt cod fish cakes with baked beans and marinated carrots a delight to the palate. Will return on our next visit to Peggy's Cove.

Great Dinner and Breakfast

We stayed at the Clifty Cove Motel across the road so this restaurant was very convenient. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in. The restaurant was immaculately clean. The owner greeted us and sent us to a table. The view was fantastic. The wine and food was delicious and fresh. We enjoyed our dinner so much that we came back the next morning for a delicious breakfast before hitting the road again.

A perfect lunch!

Can't rave enough about this restaurant. Best meal I had during our stay in Peggy's Cove (pan fried haddock for me, fish cakes for my partner). Being the only customers initially, we had a lovely chat with the owner about his Acadian upbringing. Simple decor, spotlessly clean, charming host, and excellent food! Just perfect!

Perfect way to top off the day!

After a visit to Peggys Cove, we were looking for some delicious fare, and we were on the hunt for a lobster roll. We tried another spot, but it was closed and so we ended up here…and I'm SO glad we did, the lobster roll all about the lobster was delicious, served on a freshly baked bun. The accompanying fries were also fantastic. The service was friendly and they even provided some homemade snacks for the dog. We ate outside at the picnic tables. What a beautiful spot.

A true Gem - Lovely Acadian Fare with a water view

If you love Acadian Food, I suggest you visit Cafe L'Acadie on the way to Peggy's Cove. Their menu is extensive and the food lovely. We visited July 22, 2021. I had wanted the Chicken Fricot but they ran out, sadly, but that is an excuse to go back. I had the homemade baked beans, biscuit, fish cake and coleslaw and for dessert a huge and delicious strawberry shortcake made with a homemade biscuit and loads of strawberries and real whipped cream and ice cream! I loved my meal and my husband his, Acadian meat pie, fries, and chomeur for dessert. (Maple floating island). Everything was great. We were very pleased with our service which was welcoming and friendly.. Oh there is a nice water view from the restaurant.

Hidden Gem, Fantastic

We visited here on October 18, 2020. This was our first visit and we did takeout this time but will most definitely dine in next time. First thing that struck me about Cafe L'Acadie was how clean and bright it was inside. Tables are nicely spaced and everything felt light and comfortable. It was a very appealing first impression. Staff could not have been any friendlier. We ordered pan fried haddock, a one piece fish and chips and a BLT. They all came with fries, which I have to say were really good. All the food was excellent. My one piece fish and chips had the biggest piece of fish I have had anywhere. I couldn't fish it, which delighted my husband. I regret that we didn't try this spot before now. At just under 50.00 our bill was very reasonable. We will definitely be back.

Lobster!!!

On one of our excursion during our NE / Canada Cruise with my friends, we decided to take our lunch in this lovely restaurant. Fresh lobster! Just took longer than expected wait time to cook but worth the wait. Best lobster I have tasted

Clean place, friendly staff, good kitchen and food!

Although the dominant culture in the Canadian Maritimes is from the British Isles, there are many strong and wonderful pockets of Acadian culture as well. The French settled these area first, and despite much oppression in the distant past, many towns and families still have French as their main language. And that comes with a different cuisine. We had chowder (with awesome biscuits) and their fish cakes, all of which were excellent. The chowder was creamy and full of nice fish, and the cakes were loaded with flavour. This place is not far from Peggy's Cove, so if you're tired of the crowds, just drive down the road a bit, and you can breathe again!

Comfort food & nice view

Lovely little place right near Peggy's Cove. The seafood chowder was delicious and hearty (as were the biscuits that were served with it), especially appreciated that you could order the chowder with or without the cream and it was tasty both ways. We shared a salad that was served fresh and cold. Service was welcoming and friendly. The desserts look delicious but I was too full from the big bowl of chowder to partake!

Disappointing

Ordered the seafood chowder and was very disappointed. Lots of potatoes and hardly any seafood. My husband had haddock, which he thought was dry, although the tartar sauce was good. The waitress was very nice and friendly though.

Home cooked food in Peggy's Cove that is outstanding

Finally a restaurant in a Peggy's Cove that is not a tourist trap. Great home cooked food: lobster, fish cakes, Fricot, and the best chowder I have ever had. Ask to meet Gary, he is the owner and cook. Real down home Canadian French Acadian cooking. Do not eat in Peggy's Cove unless you eat here!

Some very different dishes that are worth trying

Our family stopped here while visiting Peggy's Cove because it was an Acadian restaurant. Because it was Sunday, they served a special dish made from re-hydrated potatoes and chicken. It had an unusual consistency but tasted great. Others had a chicken and potato soup and of course seafood chowder. Nice place, clean and good service.

Great food

We just happened to stop in after visiting Peggy's Cove. We are so glad we did. The service was great and the food was fabulous!! I had the seafood chowder and it was full of seafood. The accompanying biscuit was also delicious. The side salad was chock full of veggies. My brother had the meat pie. He said it was also very good. The others had fish and chips. Nice generous portions. I highly recommend the blueberry buckle for dessert.
