Great stop off on the way to the Grand Canyon
My wife and I, and our two long-time friends, all of us in our mid-sixties, were on an excursion to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas, and the coach pulled off the main road to let us walk around the well-defined path through the Joshua trees, read the history plaques and take in the view. It was so worth it as the scenery was amazing, and we took some wonderful photos of the trees, and also some great group photos. Just a lovely break in the journey to the spectacular canyon that awaited us.
Great place to see Joshua Trees
Short, easy trail that is super accessible off a Paved road. Good place to see Joshua trees up close. Trail is well marked and safe. There is a free parking pull off near intersection of the road. It would be easy to overlook the pull off and not realize this is part of the Joshua tree forest.
Natur!
Der Joshua Tree Forest ist sehenswert. Vor allem im Winter ein grüner Klecks in der Wüste. - Amazing -
Joshua Tree walk
Super cool walk in the middle of these majestic trees. This whole area was literally covered with these things.
A little off the beaten path, but well worth visiting
While on one of my excursions, South Point of Pierce Ferry, I drove through Grapevine Mesa and just had to stop. The Joshua Tree forest is pretty amazing and well worth the extra drive past the Skywalk turnoff. I have seen forests at many locations throughout the work, but nothing like Joshua Trees. There are hiking trails, though I didn't hike this trip. This area is worth exploring a bit, but make sure you have fuel, food and water as services are few and far between.
Hiking, Biking, ATV. Horseback
You really must see our " World's Largest " Joshua Tree Forest! Visiting Dolan Springs will lead you the BEST Trails in the Area. You can choose the DS Trail System or go a bit further toward Meadview to Explore. See you soon!
Biblical trees
My husband's favorite trees are Joshua trees due to their biblical significance. We have been to the Joshua Tree National Park in California but I myself am more impressed by the forest. It is just such an undisturbed area and the trees go on for miles. There is a clearly marked dirt trail to follow and some reading boards at the start of the trail, but not much else except these unique and unusual looking trees. It is a great place to be one with nature and worth a stop!
Unique yet pretty forest
It's our first time to see the Joshua Tree Forest. We came from a tropical country and not familiar with such forest. However, sufficient history was displayed at this place. Very unique and interesting forest for us. Will come again with proper camera next time instead of a cellphone camera.
Beautiful Trees and Sunset
short trail through beautiful Joshua Trees. Not many trails in this immediate area, but the path is easy and trees are beautiful.
Stunning, untainted and raw
Being from the Midwest, we were in awe at finding these tall trees were everywhere in the desert. Some are so full that they are easily Shade trees! Drive on back Pierce Ferry Road you will find a Family Dollar store and then great little town called Meadview with a gas station and restaurant (s) hardware store and even a hotel. A little further back Pierce Ferry Road to the left, is a boat ramp to Lake Mead and at the end of Pierce Ferry road is camping area and the Colorado River! Those rafting through the Grand Canyon " take out " here. The road gets a little rougher, but I've seen RV's and we took the car. Stunning views can be seen from the road or Meadview as the sunset plays off of the Grand Wash Cliffs to the east. We love the area so much that we purchased a lot, and then a 2nd home at Meadview. The Grapevine Mesa Joshua Tree Forest is (was) truly a hidden gem. The West Rim of the Grand Canyon is of corse, a don't miss, especially if you've not been to the North or South rim. There is a lot more to do when you come to see this amazing forest!
Mojave Desert Treasure
As Hubby and I were riding along Pierce Ferry Road en route to the Grand Canyon West Rim, I noticed a very odd looking tree alongside the road. Shortly after, I noticed more of the same and had to pull over to take some photos of this strange looking flora. I'd never seen anything like it and had no idea what it was. A mile down the road, we were suddenly in the middle of a forest of desert trees that looked like withered old men twisting in the heat, with branches blooming in what appeared to be miniature Spanish Bayonet plants. Suddenly the trees covered the ground as far as the eye could see. Just as we turned on Diamond Bar Road, we saw a historic marker and pulled over again. We were entering the Grapevine Mesa Joshua Trees forest. I was amazed to read that this forest is the best existing display of Joshua Trees in the country and is the largest, densest forest of its kind in the entire world, spanning more than 3200 acres. The forest is estimated to be 900 years old, and each tree lives 150-200 years. The forest is considered a superb example of Mojave Desert ecology. Grapevine Mesa Joshua Trees Forest was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1967. Friends of Joshua Trees Forest have created a small hiking trail beginning at the Diamond Bar / Pierce Ferry intersection. They plan to improve it as funds become available. This an incredible natural phenomenon, which becomes more incredible February to April each year when the trees burst in flower blooms. I'd love to go back again and see the blooms.
