Exactly as we wanted

During covid we came expecting little, but thanks to Bill and Ashley our whole family had an excellent experience, the property is rustic and a work in progress for them but they made our stay so memorable we will be back again. The cabins offer everything we wanted and were clean and comfortable. If you go there with what they advertise you will not be disappointed. Looking forward to our next visit.

No amenities, no toilet paper, and $400 charged to my credit card without a conversation

We brought our five teenage children for a secluded birthday social distance getaway during COVID. We did not want to go to local stores but there was no toilet paper and no propane so we had to. The cabins are very old and rustic and very small. I was charged $40 extra for each person over 4 and when I got home found a unilateral charge of an extra $400 on my credit card without the decency of a phone call first. One of our party had cut on the chopping block counter and yes there were a few marks and so we offered to fix it and were told it had to be replaced (the Ikea countertop is $329 brand new). It still has not been replaced. The $400 is a windfall to the owners. When I complained the owner said I was a cyberbully and that he reported me to authorities. We are all struggling during this pandemic. I tried to give my stepdaughter a lovely special birthday and the two nights cost me over $1100 after all the extra people and damage charges. It felt like a cash grab because their business has been slow. Here is a picture of the damage on the $329 counter that I was charged unilaterally $400 for. Be aware!

Peaceful winter getaway

Great place for a quiet winter getaway. Peaceful and silent all day and night, with a lovely view of the lake, a cozy wood stove and well-stocked kitchenette. Hosts were very kind, down to earth, and it sounds like they'll be making some improvements to the cabins while still maintaining their character.

Amazing setting... okay cottages

These old cottages are set on a scenic lake. It includes canoes and kayaks. You even have your own barbecue. The cottages are older, do there are worn out beds and old plumbing. Worth staying if you can put up with a bad bed.

Quaint, Clean, and Rustic

Great spot to stay. Very nice management / owners. And right on the lake. Cabins are rustic and well equipped. Nice having a BBQ. Access to rowboats and kayaks is also really nice. If you're a thread counter, this is not the place for you. But if you like the quiet part of Saltspring and being on a lake, this is a very affordable option. The sun does go down behind the hill behind, so by about 6 the lawns and dock are in shade. But the morning sun is amazing. And well worth the trade off.

This place is awesome!! Unique experience on our trip from Vancouver!! Thank you so much for your great hosting. We love the lake view and we got to see the sun rising. And loved the birds in the morning. We will come back again 👍🏼

Peaceful Getaway

We stayed in the Maple Cottage the week prior to Canada Day. It was pretty much what we expected. A quaint, quiet and scenic spot to call home for a week on the island. While the cottages are a little " rustic ", they are charming, clean, and well appointed with everything you could need. The maple cottage (# 1) we stayed in had a weird layout unlike the others, where you have to walk through the bathroom to get to the bedroom which we did not like, so next time I'd choose another one. But the views of the lake made up for it. We even got inspired to be creative and do some painting and sketching of the scenery which we hadn't done in a long time.

Wonderful and responsive hosts, quiet and great location for family

We stayed at Maple Ridge Cottage in April 2017. The facility is run by new owners who started their first season last year (this is their second season). The facility is quiet, right on St. Mary Late shore, and has canoes, row boats and kayaks for guests. We stayed in cabin # 2 which we suspect has the greatest view of the lake. The facility has a full kitchen so fit our needs perfectly. The owners were kind, patient, courteous and helpful. The check out time was supposed to be 11 am but we asked to use their canoe to go out on the lake the day we checked out and they kindly accommodated our request. Overall, a great experience. The only thing that was less than perfect was the mattress, which is not very comfortable. We understand they were from the previous management and would recommend their first upgrade may be to change the mattresses to high quality ones.

2 Night stay in the Fall

Great place to stay. Unit was very clean. Staff helpful and forthcoming. Good location. Beautiful lake and free use of kayaks! The hot water in the unit was maybe dangerously hot (they should turn the temperature down.)

A great retreat for relaxing

This is a great place to go to relax by the lake, take a hike or bike around the island, or just hang out in your cabin if you prefer. We stayed in cottage # 1 and I think it's the best. The view of the lake is very calming and you can sit on the deck and watch the hummingbirds feed within arms reach. The past owners, Jeff and Nori, were wonderful and the new owners are continuing the hospitality. The island of Salt Spring has a wonderful art community, great hiking trails, and an amazing Saturday Market. It's easy to get around - no traffic or crowds, just friendly people. I hope to return here again and again.

The best part of our trip!

We have just returned from a 4 day stay at Maple Ridge Cottages. What a delightful place to unwind, relax, and enjoy family in a peaceful secluded setting. We were a group of 6, celebrating the engagement of our children. we had had 2 cottages which were perfect for our get-together. The new owners, Elle and Glen were welcoming and helpful. The canoe, boat and kayak were put to good use. The cottages were comfortable and clean. We'd like to have had a couple more dish-towels and a way to separate compost. I'm sure as they move forward, the new owners will arrange a way to collect compostables for sharing on many of the organic farms in the area. I hope we will be back there next year for a week. It was the best part of our trip to BC.

Amazing stay!

First time staying here, and will definitely be back! As soon as we checked in we were all welcomed (stayed as a group of 4) ended up getting a two bedroom cabin rather than the one as it worked out about the same for four adults, thanks to jeff again for that information. Cabin was really cozy, full kitchen, bathroom, and all amenities you could ask for. Jeff brought us an extra fan, although we never had to use it. Beds were super comfy, even better than my one at home! The lake access is right in front of all the cabins, and luckily no one else was staying during our stay and had the whole property to ourselves. The cabins provide row boats, kayaks and canoes, at no extra charge. Went out in the boats and did a little fishing and caught to fair sized small mouth bass. Didn't have time for swimming, as we were out in the town, but water was warm at touch. Would highly recommend this property very rustic, and peaceful. For the one negative comment below, i would highly recommend not listening to a word written there! Hopefully see you again soon Jeff! Gerry, Alex, Steph and Lucy.

Lovely vacation spot

Just returned from a few days at Maple Ridge cottages, have to say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the cottages are very charming and fully equipped for a getaway. A very nice touch is the availability of canoes and kayaks to get out on the lake. The owners Jeff and Nori were great! I will definitely return here for another holiday!

Relaxing rustic charm

I've stayed at Maple Ridge Cottages on Salt Spring Island twice now. I love it. Its very quiet, secluded and peaceful. There is great fishing to be had for trout and bass in St. Mary Lake right from the dock. Plus they have a bunch of row boats and canoes you can use any time you want, included for free when you rent a cabin. If you want a relaxing hideaway on Salt Spring Island to read, relax, getaway and unwind, this is the place you want to stay.

A little slice of heaven!!

The Wife and I have just been over to Maple Ridge Cottages for my Birthday treat. It was one of the best ever. She had informed the owners (Jeff and Nori) before about the visit and I was given a Birthday cake soon after we arrived. What a treat and home made!! Wow!! Our cottage was so clean and neat. A home away from home. Yes very quiet and can sleep well. Jeff and Nori did check in on a daily basis to see if we needed anything. One can not ask for more. Great spot to get away to. If you want the best head there!!

My Sanctuary

I spend a lot of hours working and taking care of elderly family members, so whenever I get a chance I look to Maple Ridge Cottages as my sanctuary / safe haven to refresh and recharge my batteries. This is where I get to have my morning coffee out on the deck and watch the eagles soaring in the sky, the youngsters having fun swimming in the lake, or just take time to read a good book. It is a safe, warm and friendly environment, and the hosts Jeff and Nori are superb. They ensure that you have everything you need to make your stay comfortable. I have found the cottages to be absolutely clean and in great condition. Beds are comfortable and all the necessary linens and utensils are provided. The decks have patio tables and chairs as well as sun umbrellas to allow you the opportunity to enjoy your meals outside if you wish. The BBQ's are always filled and clean, ready to use the moment you arrive. It has always felt like a home away from home and I couldn't ask for more. Until next time

A great place

What a great place to go and just get away. Can not ask for better. The cottages are so nice and you can sit out on the deck and watch the eagles play. Many things to do there, get a boat or a kayak and have fun on the lake. Jeff and Nori will see that you have a great time.

Perfect Getaway!!!

My wife and I first came out to the Cottages in 2005 and we have been coming back every year after. We spend at least two weeks a year and more if we can. Over the years we have stayed in all but one of the cottages and must say that they are all so clean and well looked after. It is like coming home to your own little place. Each cabin has all of what you would want for cooking and of course a BBQ outside. You can also get fresh Seafood from town. You have a great view of the lake from the deck with its glass fronted railing and you may even see some wildlife walk by below you. A small firebox allows you to have a fire before you go to bed. There is no noise at night, except for the occasional owl lulling you to sleep. Take a kayak in the morning and check out the lake. You can come back and head into town for a brunch if you wish. Do not forget the Saturday Market in Ganges!! The owner's are great hosts and look after all your needs!! They are great people !! We could ask for more but there are no better. Bruce and Donna-Lee.

quiet

My husband and I spent three nights there recently in their smallest cottage. It was very quiet and peaceful. It was nice that they had boats to take out for free - we went out on the lake in kayaks one afternoon. The owners recommended local hikes and restaurants and checked ferry times for us. It was very easy to get there from the airport in Victoria - the ferry terminal was right by the airport and Salt Spring Island was the first stop. This was a great start to our vacation - very quiet and peaceful and private. The cottage was really cute and comfortable. The shower was a bit small - that might be a consideration for a very large person. The porch was a great spot to have a glass of wine, read a book, and look out at the lake.

Relaxing and delightful

Four cabins facing the lake at end of a quiet road. Owners are friendly and helpful; out of sight most of the time, but miraculously appearing when we needed help lighting barbecue. Cabin is simple, not luxurious at all, but clean and well-equipped, and we had a most enjoyable stay here.

great location

Great location on the lake, great for swimming. Cottages are very simple and the bathrooms are very small. Too small. Kayak rudder was broken. Very nice deck and view to the lake. Very helpful staff and owners, although for a minute it seemed we would not have a washroom available after checkout to change after a last afternoon swim in the lake. I believe any accommodation should not hesitate in offering this to checked-out guests.
