Wonderful...
Read all excellent reviews on this site and trust them, we did and were so pleased. Stayed for two nights on May long weekend, wished it was longer. I highly recommend Cusheon Cove cottage if you are visiting Salt Spring, just not during the week we are planning for next year. Location on south end of island provided great view of Captains Passage, and evening fires were only wonderful. Cannot imagine a nicer facility on the Island. Excellent service by hosts, very kind. Book here if it is available, you shan't be disappointed.
Wish I Could Keep this Place a Secret!
We happened upon this place while trying to avoid heading home after a lovely day-trip to Salt Spring. They happened to have a one-night availability in their cottage. We booked a return stay before we left... I can't imagine a more-perfect place for a retreat.
Quiet, Secluded Place by the Sea, Great View Included
This past week was our third stay at Cusheon Cove and we're looking forward to going back next year. The location is perfect if you desire quietness and solitude. A few feet from the water's edge, with the forest at our back-door, it was hard to imagine we were so close to civilization. We love to walk, and there's plenty of opportunity for that, with trails radiating from the guesthouse. In the evening, we sat out on the lawn and saw BC Ferries vessels in the distance. The website states that self-serve continental breakfast is available, and when we arrived the fridge was well stocked with juices, bannanas, oranges, eggs, bread, butter, jams, yogart, coffee, cream, sugar, etc. Blueberries and strawberries were in season and they were also in the fridge. We bought food in the Ganges grocery store, and at the end of the day were able to cook our own supper. They are pet friendly and have a large, friendly dog that roams around the extensive property. Our dog had a great time playing with their dog. The owners, Chris and Janthra, are very friendly. Chris has lived in the area for quite a while and is quite knowledgeable about its history; he can answer many questions one might have at this very historic site on Salt Spring Island.
We will be back
I have been all over BC and my stay in the cottage with my girlfriend and our two dogs, was my favourite of all-time. It's a 20-minute drive from town. It feels like you're driving to the middle of nowhere and then there you are, in the middle of nowhere. If that's what you're looking for, you'll be in heaven like we were. The property is on a secluded cove, steps to the ocean and steps to some of the best trails on the island. The dogs were like cats, coming and going as they pleased. The cottage is small but perfect for two and has everything you need and more. The hosts, Chris and Janthra were both welcoming and so helpful. Janthra is a Thai Chef and she prepared the most amazing Thai dinner for us with foods fresh from the garden. They have a boat you can take out, apples growing on their property, and fresh eggs and vegetables all from the property. If you want to get away from it all, whether you have a dog or not, go here as soon as you can.
Lived and went to heaven
Absolutely great! Sits on a private cove nestled in Ruckle provincial park and overlooks the Georgia Straits (Pacific Ocean) This is a slice of heaven. They take large dogs and their lab Finn will be there to play with them. Down a windy dirt road and opening on to beautiful meadows the scene looks like it is from the 1800's. The road ends at the ocean with a beautiful, majestic log cabin with 2 charming outbuildings: the Loft and the Cottage. There are beautiful working gardens with chickens of which you are handed several of their eggs in a basket with other homemade goodies upon arrival. The price was incredibly reasonable. If you want peace and quiet with lots of amenities and hiking trails this is the spot! I know it's mine.
A Slice of Paradise
Our family has holidayed on Saltspring Island for more than a quarter of a century. Now that the children are grown and we have a dog, we visited the Cusheon Cove Guesthouse because it is " dog friendly ". We wanted the cottage, but due to an unforeseen scheduling conflict, the loft became our hideaway for 2 days and nights. It was December, and this accommodation had not been used since the summer, so it took a while before it was cozy warm. Above the large garage, one has views of the neighbouring fields and the original farmhouse on the property. There is a 2 burner hotplate, small fridge, microwave. Upstairs is a toilet and sink; below a full bathroom with a shower. It was dark when we arrived, so we unpacked and walked the along the main driveway of the property. Fin, the resident chocolate lab was our welcoming committee. In the morning, we explored the property and adjacent fields and views. The owners have made the property into a magical viewpoint getaway which is unlike any place where we have stayed. Adjacent to an undeveloped area of Ruckle Provincial Park, you can walk for hours on trails. Our host, Chris, has created a small museum on the property celebrating the history of the sawmill that was active more than a hundred years ago. Everywhere is beauty and nature from the ocean vistas to the quiet greenery of forest trails. Our dog was in canine heaven with so much acreage to explore and in December, we had the entire place to ourselves. We are planning another visit to Cusheon Cove Resort for the spring, but we have to hurry because their calendar is getting booked already.
Wonderful Getaway and Serene Surroundings
I hesitate to write this because it may make it harder for us to book here in the future, but we enjoyed it so much I simply cannot pass it by. Cusheon Cove Guesthouse is located out of the way on it's own 1 acre property on the water. There is the Guesthouse, which is on the lower level of the magnificent main log home. We stayed this time in the little cabin that has been built on the property and were thrilled. Sitting on a little point somewhat removed from the main residence, the cabin is tiny but has everything you need. There is a small kitchen / living area, a small bathroom and a small bedroom. For the two of us it was perfect. The kitchen is well stocked with all you'd need to cook your own meals if you wanted, including a 2-burner stovetop, a microwave, coffee maker, toaster and outside, a barbecue. This is not luxury, but it is comfortable and quiet and the surroundings are beautiful. We watched otter, eagles, herons, kingfishers, osprey and seals all from the chairs outside the cabin. The property adjuncts a local Provincial park and there are many hiking trails to choose from right from the property. Rowboats are available for guests, there is a small dock and beach access from the front of the guesthouse. Janthra, our Thai hostess, also offers a $20 / person dinner service, something we took advantage of one evening. Perfectly cooked local salmon, vegetable rolls and some cooked veggies, all from her garden, along with excellent dipping sauces. Janthra was kind enough to give us some herbs from her garden for us to cook with our fresh local eggs one morning. Chris, the proprietor of the property, is a knowledgeable, likable man who performs maintenance around the property and is a wealth of knowledge about the local area. He had the magnificent log home built over a period of years I think he said, and it truly is beautiful. The views from the Guesthouse are equally stunning, we are staying there next year. Overall, we were enchanted and cannot wait to go back again. We found their rates to be excellent, their hospitality wonderful, and the experience well worth repeating.
