Extended Stay
Great stay we been here 3 months started off 1 week feels like home 🏠 This is are first time staying at a extended stay and we are glad to be able to experience it here the reviews do not reflect my experience. I love the pet friendly with my dog that is hard to find thanks SONESTA
AVOID
These people will steal from you once they receive access to your card meaning that if you checked out they can still charge your card so be aware of that. The place is falling apart to the point there's electricity issues, key card malfunctioning, flooding, and etc. My room flooded multiple times and when I let the front desk know they kept telling we'll do something about it come to find out we didn't get a room till later that week which could result of black mold growing in the room we were staying. Staff is rude, incompetent, pathological liars, all in all sketchy people. No security meaning that doors that are outside where you can access them doesn't work and people crack and leave them open where anyone can come in that's not supposed to. For the love of God do NOT trust this place
Stayed overnight for a quick trip!
Check in was smooth and simple. Very kind staff!!! The store is stocked full with anything you may need during your stay. The staff was willing to accompany any needs we had. I'm beyond pleased and would stay again.
Disgusting
This was the most disgusting hotel I've ever stayed at. The place stunk awful. The room smelled like a mix of human stink, cigarette smell, and some nasty odor they tried to cover the previous smells up with. The room wasn't clean. There was only one towel and one wash cloth. There wasn't soap. The floors appeared to not have been vacuumed in months and the floors hadn't been mopped. It was clear our room wasn't cleaned.
Dilapidated shack with bed bugs, Unprofessional staff. Not worth half the money for this nightmare stay
This is by far the worst hotel. The rooms, halls and laundry room are always dirty, with no housekeeping. Rooms are barely functional and barely attended to, with multiple rooms that don't have the amenities listed or things like the microwave not working, bed not made, overhead light not working, towel rack falling off, urine on toilets, and bed bugs in the beds. Management is combative and unprofessional. When informed, management insinuates that I brought bed bugs with me and I should be satisfied with paying for subpar service. I have seen firsthand management cursing out staff and trying to argue and potentially fight guest that speak up about unhappiness. They are only interested in taking your money without providing service worth half the price, which isn't much, and will charge your card for more than the room is priced at and without your permission. This was a nightmare
Ghetto
This is by far the worst stay ever. The kitchen was clean but missing important items to cook and eat with. The couch was stained with white stuff and the mattress looked like people had been bleeding on it and was never covered or changed. The bedroom and the bathroom was the only things that were good. I know Sonesta can do better than this. The manager should be held accountable not the staff as they can't make changes on suggestions?
Birthday Weekend 🥳
We had a GREAT TIME. Stayed at Simply Sonesta Suites. We visited Motor City Casino….. won $400 (woot woot) !!! Shopped at Great Lakes Outlet Mall…. lot's of deals. Ate at Kirbys Coney Island. Went to a Sports Bar Woodward Bar and Grill to watch a Football game. Steak bites were to die for!!! We had a good time.
Better off at a red roof inn
Not worth the money, they don't allow late check out as I've asked many times. This last visit was terrible! Freshly so uncomfortable view pictures. Dirty couch. Towel bar fell apart. Stains in the ceiling etc. Not worth the money
Great Stay!
The only 2 bad take away from this hotel was the check-in process. I don't know if the clerk was new but the process took longer then it should have to get checked in. I am used to the hotel already having my keys prepared and they were not. And that it did not have complimentary breakfast. And if it did the clerk did not mention that to us when he was going through the amenities about the hotel. But other than that no other complaints the bed sleep great and bathroom was a very nice size.
Was nice to feel welcome while traveling
I am a traveling medical lab technician and I lived here for almost six months. The staff and management were great. I also managed to get three other lab technicians to move in there also. The hotel is very nice and clean and quiet. If I go back to Michigan I will definitely stay there again.
Average
Stayed here during the FIRST championship and it was adequate. Room and bath clean and good size. Bed was more comfortable than most comparable hotels. Bath floor tiles were not installed well and are coming loose.

仕事で何度も利用しています。もちろん周辺には、大小色々かホテルがありますが、ここで気にいってるのは、やはりキッチンが付いている事でしょう。大型の冷蔵庫、電子レンジ、シンク、電気コンロ、一通りの食器、 周辺のホテルでもちろん冷蔵庫がある所もありますがオプションであり料金がかかる場合もあります。その点ここは標準設備です。 毎日料理するわけではありませんが、ビールを冷やしておき、近くのスーパーで購入した野菜、フルーツを冷やしておくのもいいです。※歩いて五分程にスーパーマーケットが有ります。ベットはクィーンサイズ一人で寝るには十分です。 また、小さいながら、フィットネスジムもあるので少しで時間あれば汗も流せるのでこれも気に入っている点です。 朝食のためのレストランはなく、売店でセット販売してるのを購入するようですが、私は、一度も利用したことがなく先程の冷蔵庫に買い置きしたもので済ませています。
Very nice
This is a very nice place to stay. It is really for extended stays but I stayed for only one night due to a power outage. It is very clean and modern. I loved the recliner in the room. There is a fitness area and laundry room for guests. They have a library of movies you can borrow to watch in the room. The only thing I had an issue with was the alarm clock. It didn't work. Good thing my internal clock was working, lol. I would definitely stay here again.
Great hotel as always
Will be staying here for 3 days whilst visiting family in michigan. Been to several of these hotels before and they're all pretty much the same. Nice kitchen area with hob, dishwasher, cleaning facilities, microwave, toaster etc. Comfy beds and nice desk area. If you're thinking of visiting here, they do have a dvd player in all the rooms so bring some films! You can also rent board games and films from reception which is cool. Plenty of parking spaces also. Nice location with shops locally.
Visually Nice... BUT
Usually everything past the " but " is BS and this is true in this case. The room decor of this hotel is pretty nice with well appointed work space, glass front kitchen cabinets and nicely designed bath vanity. BUT.... nothing in this room was really clean. The curtains had spots that made me wish for a black light, the toaster appeared to be cleaned with a greasy towel, the tub had mildew in the caulking and top cover was ready to be replaced. This place reminded of how not-so-well my brother cleaned his first apartment in preparation for my mother's first visit - merely wiped down... not quite ready for overnight guest
Clean, comfortable room
We chose this Detroit suberb hotel for a 3 day visit with friends and family. The studio room with a full kitchen allowed us to host a few small gatherings. At the end of the day the very clean and comfortable room and bed were waiting for us. A king bed would have been nice but only queen beds are offered. I will return to Candlewood on our next visit.
Great Stay at Candlewood Suites, Southfield
Perfect place to stay at for short business trips. Rooms are neat and clean, very well equipped with a fully functional kitchen enabling guests to make their own desired dishes. The staff at this property are very helpful and they help in every possible way to make their guest's stay as comfortable as they can. The 24 hour in-house self service cupboard is an essential part and the free laundry is another plus point. Overall a great place to stay at. Will recommend this property.
Average Candlewood Suites hotel, but great value for the money!
I stayed there for one week on a business trip. I've been staying very often and for many years in Candlewood Suites hotels and I can say this hotel is very average. The vicinity is not so nice but is safe and close to two freeways. The overall condition is ok. Also my queen bed studio was ok. I'd even say that the design is a little nicer than other hotels of this chain (not so old fashioned). Overall, this hotel is not a beauty but what would you expect for this price. The price is significantly lower than other hotels in the area offering free breakfast. So, this is the deal: Housekeeping is just once per week and you do your own breakfast. No problem with me since I prefer my own healthy breakfast to these poor free breakfasts. Staff was mostly very nice except for the lady checking me in at arrival which was after frontdesk was closed for the night. All other staff was very friendly and eager to please. I had two technical problems and they were very eager to fix it quickly. A big plus for me and one of the reasons for choosing this place was the multi-purpose resistance machine they have in their gym. I was not disappointed and it turned out to be very effective for my daily workout. Overall: I can recommend this place and will surely visit again.
a little Apartment haven away from home!
This is a place where people who work here care about the people who stay here. It felt like an apartment community. overall clean and functional. The bed in our room creaked and sagged like the last person staying had weighed a great deal and spent a lot of time in the middle of the bed. A call to the front desk and they were quick to offer a solution and brought a different bed the next day so I didn't have to pack up and move rooms. The are pet friendly, people friendly, traveler friendly. Everything needed for a one week+ stay is available.
Great value and overall very positive experience
I stayed here for a week, and commuted to Novi every day, which was roughly 20 minutes during rush hour. Location was safe and convenient.. in the middle between work and downtown Detroit. I think this Hotel was a great value for the dollar. Realizing prices change from week to week, please compare prices before booking... I found the price of this hotel varies as much as $40 / night. The room was great... nice bed, nice kitchen, nice bedroom. The gym was super, and getting a free laundry was a nice perk, as was the cupboard, and the huge gas grill outside. Do I miss free breakfast and a pool? Yes! However, in Detroit area, that can set you back another 40 bucks or more a night.
Husbands business trip
We came with my husband on his business trip, and had high expectations. However when my husband checked in there is no staff at front desk he had to pick up the phone and dial 0 to get anyone. Hotel was already paid for through my husbands work however they asked him for a credit card in which he replied he didn't have one and the guy at the desk very rudely looked at my husbands open wallet and say " so none of those cards work " which my husband replied no they are being used for other things and this is a work thing anyway. I found that very rude. The room is nice, some dirty spots on the bathroom door. You can however hear every noise made in the hotel must be thin walls. And our fridge made a weird knocking noise. It's not a hotel I would probably choose on my own, but it was satisfactory.
Room smelled like a dog kennel
Apparently hotels do not have the time, staff, or resources to perform what many establishments call a " deep cleaning, " which is a term shrouded in mystery. Some managers tell me a special rug shampoo is used, others say they must extra sanitize the room, and yet some tell me they have to clean behind and under the bed. I have yet to actually see what takes place in a deep cleaning. Warning: Have deep pockets, too, as some hotels that do allow pets (in most cases, this means dogs) may charge anywhere between $75 and $250 for extra per night for pet friendly rooms.
Nice renovated rooms, but still has work to do
I just completed a multi-night stay at the Candlewood Suites in Southfield. If you've never stayed at a Candlewood Suites, it is a mini-suite hotel meaning you get a full size fridge w / freezer, microwave, and a range top along with all of the plates, dishes, silverware, etc.. that you would need. Some perks include free laundry service and a workout area. The rooms at this hotel were literally just renovated and it shows. They were modern, clean, and comfortable, resembling IHG's more upscale Staybridge Suites Hotels. The bed was very comfortable although the pillows leaved a lot to be desired. The bathroom was well lit but the water pressure in the shower could have been better. While the rooms were just renovated, it appears the rest of the hotel including the hallways is still undergoing its remodel. There were workmen everywhere. Being an extended stay hotel there were often random (and kinda sketchy) people just walking around the hallways. Not sure if they were workmen staying in the hotel, or guests, but it was a little unnerving. One of the biggest disappointments is the hotels location. Being tucked into a little office park, there is nothing close by in terms of restaurants for dinner or breakfast. The hotel does not offer free breakfast, instead having a self-service " store " where they sell yogurt and nasty muffins for breakfast. There was a subway / donut shop 2 blocks away for breakfast. There is nothing walking distance for dinner, as I guess most guests cook themselves? I did see some local places offer delivery. I think if I was in the area I would not stay again due to the location, but if I was looking for an inexpensive extended stay hotel, than this would be a good choice.
Never. Again. Period
We stayed at this hotel twice during the summer of 2011. The first time, we entered the room and noticed that almost nothing had been cleaned. The cleaning crew had obviously did as little as humanly possible to make the room presentable. Their was hair in the bathroom and an old shirt stuffed in the cushions of the sofabed. The shower had no hot water. Thinking this was a fluke, we stayed a second time during the summer. Things went from bad to worse. Upon entering the room, the toilet wasn't working and neither was the A / C. And then, to top it all off, the electric range caught fire when we turned it on. Set off the smoke alamrs and everything. This finally convinced the staff to swtich us to a different room. The second room was marginally better, but still no hot water in the shower, and a bare bones cleaning job. Stay anywhere else in Southfield. Just not here.
Roaches were in my room
I arrived late and had to get my key out of a safe. When I woke up 4 hours later to get money for the store on the first floor I seen a roach coming out of my purse. 4 hours prior to arriving to this place I check my perse for phone and no roaches were present. This was very nasty so I immediately left the room and check in at another hotel because no one was at Candlewood front desk to accomendate me. This would have been a great place to stay for the prices but roaches are not something i tolerate.
We will be back
This is a good place to stay. Room was clean and spacious but the bathroom had a funny smell. The pillows were small so I suggest that you bring your own. The only problem was that the smokers sat right outside the entrance and you had to walk through there smoke each and everytime you left or entered the building. Also, some of the guests seemed to be " living " there and for some reason this bothered me. Staff were really nice, but we forgot our priority card and they said they would look up our number (no problem) and four days later, they still hadn't gotten our number and given us our points. It was nice to be able to prepare our own food, we even had guests over for dinner one night. They really need a lobby where people can gather and a place for the smokers to sit. I suggest that they convert the green space that is just right of the entrance to a smokers patio, that way you don't have to walk through that smell. We would stay here again because despite the smoking issues, it was affordable and a nice place. Oh, they could use a pool too!
almost perfect - Supergünstig und fast perfekt
Wenn man wirklich günstig ein richtiges großes Zimmer mit Küchenzeile, Mikrowelle, Kühlschrank und Badezimmer haben will und ein Auto hat, dann ist das candelwood Suites perfekt! Sauber, ruihg, und richtig komfortabel für einen unschlagbaren Preis. Allerdings fährt man downtown auf der Stadtautabahn Nr 10 mind 15 Minuten ! Ich habe im März in Boston zum ersten maöl diese Hotelkette ausprobiert und war so begeistert, dass ich wieder ein Candlewood Suite Zimmer (was eigentlich eher ein kleines Apartment ist) gebucht habe, und ich wurde nicht im geringsten enttäuscht!
Staff ruined this hotel for me
I am a platinum member with Holiday Inn and in the past I love staying at Candlewood Suites and so I felt this would be no different. I arrived late after 1230am and the front desk was closed at 11pm. When this happens they have safes available for people like myself and all you need to do is put in last name and hit enter and there is your key. Not this time - there was nothing in any of the safes and NO ONE answered the phone for 25 minutes! The only way I was able to get in and wait for the person to show up was a security guard who was nice. After waiting the time the person finally showed up and was very rude to me. The next moring the manager is there and I tell her about what happened and she is like oh well sorry and said well normally the keys are in the safe but they are not working and the night person is supposed to take the phone with them but didn't - sorry
Good place to stay
This was a great place to stay. Close to 696 & 10 (Lodge) & M39 (Southfield) freeways. The room was very clean. The bed was very comfortable. The sheets and bedspread are some sort of special siganture set so they were nice. Quiet. Surrounding neighborhood is OK. I am from this area and was visiting family so I know the area well. To an outsider, the area may seem a bit more sketchy than it actually is. It is in a corporate park area so the hotel is tucked away by the business buildings. One thing to note: because it is a suite, you do not get daily maid service. But you can exchange towels at the front desk. I personally liked the fact no one was in the room when I was gone but I know others like sheets / towels changed daily. If you are looking for clean, comfortable and affordable... this is the place for you.
Nice property, nasty staff
The property is quiet and in a central location. Several problems with the room: the shower curtain was missing and we couldn't shower until one was located - and then we were told we had to go pick it up at the front desk! We requested a smoking room and had a guaranteed reservation but on arrival we were told there were no Smoking rooms left. We were told to go ahead and smoke in a Non-Smoking room! The worst part: at check-in, the clerk told us he could not print out anything that showed the room rate but he said that we'd be given the rate quoted over the phone. Yet when we went to check-out, we were charged a rate $30 / night more than what was quoted. This clerk - " Mark, " a different person from when we checked in - was shockingly rude: sneared at us, was openly sarcastic, accused us of lying about the rate we were quoted, refused to give his last name. To make matters worse, when the credit card bill arrived, we were charged twice for this stay. I would not return.
Great value for the money!
My mother, sister, nephrew and myself stayed at this hotel in June of 2006 for three nights. We had the one bedroom suite with a pull out sofa and full kitchen. It was definitely clean, quite and peaceful. The check-in and out process was good. The staff were helpful and professional. I would definitely stay here again! It was also easy to get to as it is just off one of the main highways. As a result, I was able to get to wherever we were going easily and effortlessly. Two of the sites we visited while there was the Detroit Zoo which my nephrew did enjoy. We had a good time. However, visiting the Motown Museum was the highlight of the trip, make sure you visit the museum! The tour was so educational and it gave me the chills being in the same place as legends once recorded and stood! We also went to the Taste Festival in Downtown Detroit. So much food and entertainment! It was cute!
Good value
The hotel is only 5 years old and in great condition. The rooms were clean and the staff was helpful. Also, conveniently located by the highway. Nearby corporate office buildings so the immediate area felt safe. I would stay there again.
