Food tasted good But…
When you first walk in a wow hits you on how beautifully decorated the place is. I sat at the bar so I could have a 360 view. Bartender Natalie was fantastic. She was very pleasant and attentive. I ordered the Tumbleweed onions not really knowing what to expect. Taste was good but not really impressed. I then ordered the grilled chicken breast and a side of BBQ baked beans. The chicken was juicy and had a great taste. The beans were the best version I've ever had!! But I couldn't help but to feel like I was ripped off by the cost. $19 should have had 2 sides. The price paid was too high for the portion amount. On my way out at the podium were 3 employees. I was shocked that NOT one wished me a good day and a simple thank you for coming in. Very disappointing. Although the chicken and beans were delicious I don't think it was enough for me to recommend this place to anyone. Go if you're a fan I guess.
Closed yet not forgotten... but for all the wrong reasons
There are several words I can drum up to describe the sprawling 18, 000-square-foot Toby Keith's Bar & Grill of Newport News, but I will settle for just one: CLOSED. It was, and I mean this as someone who loves country bars, objectively terrible. As other reviewers have adequately expressed, it was not uncommon to find yourself the only patron at Toby Keith's, even at happy hour. To that I'll add that the first thing you would notice, other than the vast soulless void, was the din of Toby Keith's tacky novelty songs looping endlessly on big screen LCDs, echoing off the distressed sheet metal walls. My friend and I placed ourselves at the bar where we were somehow neglected by the bartender (as well as Toby Keith's signature gaggle of gossiping waitresses) for a full 15 minutes before ordering a couple Coors Lights served in mason jars and an order of ultimate nachos (a fair litmus test for any culinary establishment). To no one's surprise and despite the fact we were the only patrons in the restaurant, a very sad platter of nachos arrived after about 30 minutes and was covered in a quart of piping hot queso-like fluid I was told was personally dubbed by Mr. Keith as " freedom sauce ". This revolting heap of machismo and casual violence immediately began a return journey to the kitchen. A short time later, a pubescent boy claiming to be a manager sidled over to report the chef's insistence that the food was fine. Perhaps so, I said, but the chef doesn't have to eat it. He nodded in morose acquiescence and disappeared behind a plank of distressed barn roofing. One of the curiosities of this place, aside from " how do the people that worked here live with themselves? ", is that one could perhaps feel a sliver of compassion for Mr. Keith as he watched an opportunist slowly sully his name and legacy. Indeed, unpaid debts courtesy of managing company Boomtown Entertainment / CEO Frank Capri racked up a reported $554, 000 in delinquent rent and late fees at the Newport News location alone before they walked away from the restaurant entirely without alerting any of its employees (source: Newport News General District Court). The dominoes have since toppled and, as of this review, spared only two of Mr. Keith's restaurants nationwide. If you admire tasteless audacity over achievement, they could almost be described as intriguing social experiments, each supported by a corporate branding team led by Robert St. Clair whose kitsch designs helped propagate a chain-wide culture of sexual objectification and wanton excess with a local team of mostly inert staff, each one treated like hamburger crammed into a pair of daisy dukes and flung carelessly into their roles. We are doubtlessly a richer people in Newport News to be rid of this hovel.
CLOSED FOR GOOD
We did gon there several times, and the food was good but not great. I think the issue was the place was so huge, it would never feel full. It was kind of the size of Gilleys in Texas but didn't have the country following.
Business is now closed
While this location was opened I did have lunch on a few occasions. The food was what you would expect from a bar / grill type of theme. The place was huge inside and I never once saw more than a handful of people in there during lunch hours. I think the idea of the business is good but there was a lack of marketing and I think the location wasn't the best for the demographic in the area.
Toby Keith's is closed
Toby Keith's was a very large country bar, in fact, huge inside. Never had near enough people to fill it which made it seem more empty. Business closed 1-1-2015.
Toby Keith has gone out of business in Newport News, VA
This bar was closed in late 2014 and the sign has been removed. The bar was based on a country music theme and apparently was not well received.

The food was horrible
We had ordered 2 burgers that were ok at best. One burger had two bites and it was decided it was just nasty. The chili was almost room temperature. However the steak that was ordered seemed to be the only meal that was worth finishing.
Tough to review because they were out of everything
We got there. Receptionist sat us. No one else there. Waitress came over and right away said... we are out of basically everything. No burgers. Steaks. Seafood. Potato. On and on. We left! What the heck!
I loved leaving this bar
We stopped by for dinner on a recent trip to Newport News. Huge space for maybe 20 people. 95 degrees outside and about 80 inside. Beer served on the warm side. Ordered a sandwich not sure if it was correct. So dark I had to use my flashlight app to box up what I didn't eat. Food was greasy nothing special. Took it back to my hotel just in case I was starving later. Opted for the hotel vending machine and threw out the box if food. Will not go back. Bartender Tory was nice just too big a space for one person to cover the bar.
