Worth Every Penny

This is an absolutely wonderful place for a riding holiday, with plenty of other activities if you need a break from the saddle. You simply can't fault the hosts, the accommodation, the food & (most importantly) the horses & trails. This Dude Ranch exceeded expectations on all counts & I can see why people return year after year. Everything was true to the website descriptions & the staff go above & beyond to give you the adventure of a lifetime. We are experienced riders but appreciated the level of supervision to ensure all rides were safe. The scenery is spectacular & the wranglers make sure you experience a different trail every time you ride. Riding groups were small, sometimes just 2 of us, & we all felt confident with the horses which were very well cared for. It was worth every penny.

This was a lifetime dream fulfilled, coming from 'down under' to the Canadian Rockies

Comfortable Log cabins, friendly and helpful owners and wranglers - and rugged scenery to experience on well cared for horses. Plenty of other activities for non riders - delicious meals. Overall wonderful experience which I highly recommend. Faultless.

Highlight of our holiday…. Amazing

We stayed here 6 days out of our months travels across Canada and both in our 50s. The ranch was the highlight of our holiday. Neither of us horse riders and although had the opportunity to trot and canter were quite happy walking each of the rides with the fantastic wranglers taking in the beautiful scenery we were taken on each day. Also did hiking, fishing, rafting (tame) shooting and archery during the week with wonderful staff and lucky to enjoy the rodeo that was on in Crambrook. The accommodation was just like the photos. We were supplied with cowboy boots for the stay. We never went hungry. The food was plentiful and very tasty. Put a few pounds on !!! The bar was a great place at night to catch up with all the other guests who became friends or play pool. There was always an activity to enjoy if you wanted to join in on an evening. The children who were there seemed to be having a great time making friends, enjoying the safe freedom the Ranch offers, and not wanting to leave. The washing / dryer machines were handy and easy to use. Iron available too. Small boutique shop selling gifts. We didn't have time to use the hot tub or swimming pool in the grounds The Berkeley family work very hard and make sure you are included in all activities during your stay and that everything is ok. They go above and beyond and their work ethos is fantastic. The wranglers and outdoor staff all work hard and have so much patience. Isabelle, Rachel, Bianca all so encouraging and friendly. Would highly Recommend here. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Michelle and Craig

Great challenges!

I suspect my week at Three Bars has spoiled me for anywhere else. The entire Beckley family is warmly hands-on in all areas to ensure everything goes well. If anything isn't working for you, you just have to speak up. They have also done a stellar job of recruiting staff, whose youthful enthusiasm you'd like to bottle & bring home. Anyone with a sweet tooth will love the different each day freshly made sweetie after the satisfying dinner. The location is unbeatable with a snowcapped mountain range up to 10, 000 feet stretching from side to side across from the back of the lodge & lower mountains to climb off to the side of the lodge. The rides are very interesting & challenging & will keep you on your toes. The horses are handsome & well-behaved, while still being their true selves. (i. e. not above making a grab for the grass given a chance).

Riding experience not up to standard and very disappointing

We were advised your ranch was comparable to a luxury ranch in Wyoming where I have visited 7 times. Your ranch is above average, lovely cabins and food set in stunning landscape. My riding experience was disappointing - relegated to walk / trot rides as I chose to mount my horse from the mounting block... how degrading. My horse was uncomfortable as its girth too wide for my size but I was refused an alternative smaller horse. My highlight was an afternoon learning to fly-fish in a nearby river. My riding abilities - I ride most weekends at home in all paces over open countryside, up and downhills and wooded areas depending on conditions. I have travelled far and wide since 2002 - France, Africa, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho Ireland, some venues many times. All had dedicated wranglers to ensure right horses for you and in all paces - walk, trot (post), canter (lope) and gallop - wonderful photos and memories. I am trying to forgot the holiday with your luxury ranch - not many photos to remind me or make me wish I want to return. Such a long way to travel from UK and so much money for so little enjoyment. SueH, UK.

A fantastic dude ranch experience

Spending time on a Dude Ranch has been a long term dream of mine and I have just realised that dream at the 3 Bars Ranch. The experience my husband and I had was perfect and we'd like to thank all of those who played a part in making this the most memorable of times. To the Beckley family for creating and managing this wonderful place. To the wranglers for their care, energy, patience and humour- Claire, Bella, Nat, Clare, Isabelle, Billy, Ashleigh, Kerry. To the kitchen, housekeeping and ground staff for feeding and looking after us and our environment so well. To the horses for putting up with us, especially Griffin and Finnegan! There are many names to mention so I hope I haven't missed anyone out, we really did appreciate everyone of you.

Kids are begging to go back next year!

This place is a home run. Our entire family voted it the best vacation ever. We traveled as a family of five with kids ages 7, 10 and 12. The Beckleys were easy to communicate with, very accommodating and made the behind the scenes execution, which I'm sure is extensive, seamless. We booked only a few months in advance on a whim and lucked out that the only availability happened to be the week we needed, but I'm sure people book 6-12 months in advance typically. I expected fairly rustic accommodations and was blown away by how lovely the cabins and furnishings were. Everyone had plenty of space, with coffee makers and mini fridge in each room. I also expected basic ranch food and the food was so plentiful and delicious that I gained 5 pounds in a week. They were also very generous and accommodating of our dietary needs (gluten free) and provided great variety for us. Mediterranean night, BBQ night, one night of the most delicious roast chicken and vegetables, super salads with great variety and our kids loved the kitchen-made desserts. Even my picky eaters were happy with full tummies. Beds were super comfy with western decor in our log cabin with modern furnishings and modern bathrooms. Comfy chairs on the porches to watch the goings-on at the ranch - I particularly enjoyed sunrise and watching the horses come in from the pastures to the corral. There were TVs but I couldn't even tell you where the remote was - it never got turned on. We are not a horse family - we just wanted to try something different. We are all in love with our horses and with riding now. The scenery is just spectacular with views of the rockies, the St. Marys River, and all of the wildlife you could wish for - herds of elk, white tail and mule deer, bald eagles, hawks were all spotted on our rides. We were all confidant on our horses by week's end. It rained a few days during our stay and riding in the rain was just as majestic. Some days we rode as a family, and others we divided into different types of rides (kids ride, trotting, loping). Groups were small, never more than a handful of people combined which was great. Our kids enjoyed shooting and archery as well, and we enjoyed the trails for mountain biking a bit. People also enjoyed ebikes and hiking - but we preferred taking advantage of more riding. The clientele was a great mix of families, couples and singles and no one group felt left out of anything. They do an excellent job catering to everyone's needs. By the week's end, the kids had formed a " kids table " at meals to enjoy their new friendships. At the heart of this place are the wranglers, a group of 10 responsible for your riding and activities, the bar, and evening activities. They are all delightful and go out of their way to make your trip fun. They will join you for meals and we all enjoyed learning about them (many grew up on cattle farms in Australia). And 9 of 10 this year are young women - my kids (and us) thought they were amazing. For my city kids, it was really inspiring for them to have a view of a totally different lifestyle. All gems, Nat in particular was really lovely and patient with our youngest, and got our 12 year old son to dance the two step! Can't forget Cupcake, Rip and Finnegan, the dogs on the ranch that our kids were obsessed with - they are now begging for a dog (so that's great...). They are all also begging to go back next summer. It's not an inexpensive vacation, for sure, but we felt there was great value, we all learned something new, created great memories and felt very safe and well cared for. Couldn't be happier with our experience.

Fantastic Experience

I would give more more stars if I could. This is a fabulous vacation and the Beckley family know what they are doing. Besides the beauty of the area, which was unfortunately marred a bit by the smoke, the ranch and its staff are the real jewels here. The horse back riding is fantastic with riding opportunities twice a day. There are plenty of horses on the ranch and they match you with one for the week. They do their best to match a horse to your skills and there are plenty of opportunities to trot and lope on the trails. There are so many trails with differing views you will never go on the same one twice unless you want to. The wranglers are AMAZING. They are so nice and accommodating and you can tell they love their job. The food is good and very tasty, with lots of choices. Healthy eating is not hard to do with veggies, salads, and / or fruit offered at all meals. On BBQ night I had the salmon, which was cooked to perfection and really delicious. House made cookies and desserts are great too. They have a full bar, and a nice selection of beer and wine. Whether you are a family or a couple or a bunch of friends, this is a fabulous vacation. There are other activities every day so if you do not want to ride you will have lots of other things to do. The river rafting was really fun. Or you can do nothing, it's great place for that too. We loved sitting out on our porch in the big comfy chairs. One of favorite things about this vacation was meeting great people from all over the world. They all felt like family by the last day. If a dude ranch is in your future, this is the place you want to go to.

An incredible time!

My husband and I had the most incredible time here back in May! Everything was excellent: the friendly staff, the food, the scenery, the riding, the cabins! I cried leaving as it was a dream come true. Thank you so much for an amazing time, you guys know what you're doing! I bought several things from Dee's lovely shop so the only thing I wanted was a full length mirror in my cabin. This place is so good for the soul! We thoroughly enjoyed the riding and were cantering by day 3 which was so exciting and I felt so safe with the helpful and lovely wranglers.

Standout ranch - worth a trip!

We have visited guest ranches all over BC, Oregon and Montana and this one was a winner. The food was excellent. Our extended family group enjoyed every meal. Lots of variety and something for everyone. We loved the rafting and the kids and young adults enjoyed the group sports on the large lawn between the cabins and the lodge. There were some real competitors there during our week!! The horses that the ranch selected for us were all lovely and we were so sad to leave them. Make sure to talk to your wrangler about recommended rides, and remember the name of the rides you have been on, so you can make sure to get to all the rides you want to do. Two special mentions: 1. Wrangler Manny, who truly went above and beyond for us. He seemed to really care about our experience. He took photos and even made a video for us, he took us on some fantastic rides, he talked to our kids, and he respectfully let us know when it was time to shut the bar down. We would have kept going all night. Manny, thank you! 2. Reiner Kyle: Kyle taught western riding lessons to my daughters and husband. He was an absolute professional, and managed to be very funny, while teaching them fundamentals of western riding. If we had room, we would have left the ranch with a reining horse. I highly recommend Kyle's riding lessons. All in all, a really excellent, beautiful family vacation. Thanks Beckley Family!

Amazing!

Our stay at Three Bars Ranch exceeded all expectations. We are beginners on horseback and with help from the wranglers, we went from walking to trotting to loping all in one week while enjoying the breathtaking views. The experienced wranglers were amazing (all of them!), and the Beckley Family was so welcoming and ready to answer any question. In addition to horseback riding, we also enjoyed the white-water rafting, shooting, e-bikes, waterfall hike, and evening activities. Thank you for a wonderful family vacation.

Three Bars Ranch Review

I just got back. Easily a 5 star. Overall, they do a great job. Riding and other activities. Rooms were fine. Food was great. Spectacular views of the Canadian Rockies. I would certainly recommend if you are looking for a guest ranch vacation.

Fun Place for Riding and Relaxing

If you enjoy the great outdoors and horseback riding, this is an excellent place to take a vacation. Our hosts were accommodating, the wranglers wonderfully friendly, and the food was way too good. (The food is served buffet style so how much or how little you eat is up to you.) We enjoyed horseback riding, shooting skeets, trying our hand at shooting with a bow and arrow, and other activities. The trail rides were done in small groups which I really liked. I chose just to do morning rides, but afternoon rides were also available. The cabin I stayed in was very clean and comfortable. I highly recommend this ranch for a vacation.

Ranch Vacation Perfection

Our family just finished a wonderful week long vacation at Three Bars Ranch and we are all ready to go back. This was our second dude ranch vacation, and our first to Three Bars. Three Bars is truly a mountain vacation all-inclusive resort, but the true heart of the program is the Beckley family and the incredible wranglers and staff. The Beckleys welcome guests with a relaxed hospitality that feels more like genuine welcome than showmanship. And the charming and delightful wranglers engaged, encouraged, and entertained the guests from check-in to check-out. They are truly the essence of the Three Bars vacation experience. We are not beginner riders, but also not experts, and the riding program at Three Bars exceeded all of our expectations. We were each paired with a horse for the week and experienced the beauty and thrill of exploring the Canadian Rockies on horseback. Our rides ranged from walking to more exhilarating loping rides, but all included spectacular mountain, river, and forest views. Our family of four was able to ride twice a day with a wrangler who would customize a ride for us, or we could split up and join other guest groups for rides. While we spent nearly 20 hours riding as a family over the week, our daughter also did a few rides with other teenagers who were also there on family vacations. And for times that we didn't want to ride horses, we could choose from a wide variety of activities including hiking, mountain biking, E biking, skeet and target shooting, ATV, fly fishing, swimming, or soaking sore muscles in a hot tub. The day was punctuated by three delicious and hearty meals with plenty of variety, fresh fruit and vegetables, and homemade desserts. We stayed in the two bedroom black series cabin which was modern, lovely, and has breathtaking views of the mountain range from floor to ceiling window walls along the east side. The view of the sun rising over the mountain range was spectacular. If you reserve a black series cabin, don't forget a sleep mask because it is light until 10:30 pm and the sun rises at 5:30am. But the view is well worth it! Our cabin also had a lower level with three twin beds for our kids and a private hot tub to relax after rides. We are already planning our next trip back and will have lifetime memories from this trip!

The experience of a lifetime

My family love to travel and we've been lucky enough to do quite a lot, but I have never had my teenagers so sad to leave anywhere. And it wasn't about how much they loved the horses they were riding all week (which they did), it was about the whole amazing experience of staying at the Three Bars. The ranch itself is gorgeous, so comfortable, and set in truly beautiful country that made each ride wonderful. The family and wranglers create such a wonderful atmosphere you feel quickly at home. The place is incredibly sociable (which isn't always my thing) and we loved it. The kids / teens made friends and we all had a wonderful time eating together and enjoying the evening fun. There's also some great non-riding activities everyone had a go at, the river ride with water guns was especially popular! But two things stood out as really impressive. Firstly, the family set the pace and organisation of the ranch just right - you are busy enough with rides and fun things to do, but also you have downtime to chill out or play pool in the bar. The organisation of the riding and actives is relaxed but also really efficient and safe. Secondly, they manage to make everyones stay the right one for them. One of our group was nervous and they managed to organise rides and wranglers that suited her perfectly - even when she was not making up her mind what she wanted until the last minute. Others went off on more challenging rides. Finally it's important to say that this family really knows and loves their horses. A huge thank you to the Beckley family and your fabulous team of wranglers for a wonderful holiday - we will be back (and my eldest would like a job please! :)

Natural beauty, activities, food and perfection

We are a family of four who stayed in the furthest room on the ranch. We had an upstairs and downstairs capable of sleeping five people. The views when you woke up were simply breathtaking. The rooms were ample in size, well maintained, stylish and very comfortable. Room aside, the ranch is perfect in how it combines riding (for those who want to participate) and activities for everyone else. We had two riders and two activity people. Never got tired or bored - shooting, rafting, hiking, e-mountain bike and general relaxation. Food was amazing -- nutritious and eye wateringly appealing. Great mix of salads, meats, desserts and veggies on offer. Service from the staff always came with a smile and total can do attitude. Everybody pitched up to help the guests really enjoy themselves. Simply cannot say enough about our stay during week of 26 June, 2022. Would we come back? YOU BET WE WOULD! Only one small, small suggestion - yes, this is from a city slicker -- please get an espresso machine for the bar. Love coffee but there is only so much N. American coffee one can drink! Loved Three Bars.

Incredible experience

What an incredible experience. This place is gorgeous. Sooooo worth it. We had a cabin in the back with air conditioning (not all have air conditioning) and patio hot tub and the most incredible views of sunsets and sunrises. Seeing elk frolic in the field below and have the horses just stroll by my window was awesome. The food was delicious and they cater to all diets. The trails were fun and you could chose every ride what kind of ride you would like to take. The candy trail I think it was called was my favourite. You got to ride through a stream and they would take pics for you. The family and wranglers take turn sitting with everyone was a really nice touch. Tyler and Jenna do an amazing job making sure you are taken care of. Their kids chase and Mia are so sweet. I can see Chase taking over one day he has amazing social skills. And Mia is so hilarious. I found that Carissa was awesome and Cole and max were sweet and Hunter was a little shy. The clay shooting was fun and target 22 practice was easier. Axe throwing and archery were fun. Fly fishing for the 1st time was awesome, we drove our self down the road a bit to the stream where Tyler told us to go and I caught a few cutbow. Little salmon were swimming through my feet up stream it was surreal. This place is absolutely incredible. I will be back. I have had family already go because of my pics.

A very happy dude!

A fabulous Dude Ranch that delivers on all promises. The horses are beautiful and they paired me with a perfect ride for me. Five days of riding in the Rockies with a wide variety of trails with spectacular views. Each wrangler was exceptional in their own way. Took a lesson that was perfect for me. The ranch and our accommodation was comfortable and food was very good. The staff was friendly and helpful. Owners Jenna and Tyler are fully present to every guest and run a great operation. Lots to do on the ranch and in the area for non-riders too so my husband was not bored when I abandoned him for the trails daily. Guests from all over the world. Highly recommend it.

More than what I expected!!

This was my sister's dream, and my husband and I came along for the ride!!!!! My husband and brother in law golfed (great courses in the area) and I rode my horse way more than I thought I would!!! I also biked and hiked!!!!! All was fun!!!! The hub was the saloon, where guests and wranglers could just hang!! Drinks were very reasonably priced and corkage fee was very good!!! Food was good wrangler food - so no complaints there! The best was breakfast on the range!!! Owners and staff were awesome!!!!! I would just love to bring our 6 year old granddaughter here - she would have a blast!!!!!!

Best time ever!

Just ended my week long stay at Three Bars Ranch, enjoyed every second, the Beckley family really know how to show their guests a great time!! The staff are friendly and helpful, and the food is well prepared and plentiful. The cabins are clean and spacious, the horses are very well loved and taken care of, and it shows!! I am a repeat guest, and every year is better then the last. I can highly recommend Three Bars, to anyone, even without riding, there is plenty of activities to keep everyone happy. The scenery is breathtaking, the sunrises are out of this world!!

Amazing vacation

I spent a wonderful week at Three Bars Ranch. The horse back riding was not only scenic but alot of fun. The food was delicious and plentiful. The accommodation had spacious rooms with great privacy and extremely comfortable beds. The staff and the Beckley family went above and beyond. I have already booked for next season

Best Family Vacation Ever

Just came back from an amazing week at Three Bars. My 8 y. o. and 11 y. o. voted it best family vacation ever. The setting is spectacular, the staff are so friendly and encouraging and the food was yummy. And the daily rides were amazing. You don't have to be an experienced rider to enjoy the ranch -- my husband had never ridden a horse before and did great. The other thing we really liked is there was no pressure at all -- if you want a day off, no problem. Want a second ride in the afternoon, no problem. It was so nice to unplug and just focus on being together. Overall, this will be a vacation we will have special lifetime memories from.

Incredible stay at Three Bars Guest Ranch

We had an incredible stay at Three Bars Guest Ranch. Tyler and the rest of the team at Three Bars are incredibly knowledgable, kind and welcoming. From taking an early morning trail ride to a hot breakfast waiting for us at the edge of a river in the forest to listening to live music on the patio - everything about our experience was excellent. The staff at Three Bars takes the time to tailor each guest's stay to meet their individual comfort level and what they hope to accomplish while staying at the ranch. This ranges from horseback rides suited to each rider's skill level to choosing afternoon activities that range from mountain biking, rafting or lounging by the pool. The Three Bars team has successfully cultivated an experience that makes guests feel at home while tucked far away in the mountains. We will definitely be back!

Three Bars Ranch

This was my 3rd trip to Three Bars Ranch in the last four years. Every time I go I have a blast, it is amazing there. You start off your vacation there meeting the fantastic couple (Jenna and Tyler) who run the horse ranch. They are always friendly and welcoming. Then you go and drop you luggage off at your cozy log cabin. The Sunday night dinner consists of fried chicken, hash brown casserole and vegetables followed by dessert. The food there is delicious. The next morning you get a good ole ranch breakfast before meeting your horse and the wrangler who will be leading you on the first of two rides; if you choose to ride twice a day. The horses in the dude string are well rounded and steady and you will be paired up with a horse according to your riding ability. If you choose not to do the afternoon ride, there are always activities to partake in (season depending) like hiking, ATV-ing, fly fishing, rafting, clay pigeon shooting etc. Then after dinner, you can partake in activities such as horse shoes, archery, axe throwing or play a round of pool in the bar area while getting to know the other guests and wranglers better. Three Bars Ranch is a very enjoyable place to vacation and I can't wait till my return visit next year. Thank you Jenna and Tyler for always welcoming us. Nigel

First ranch vacation. Would definitely do it again!!!

From the minute we arrived to the moment we checked out, our experience at 3 Bars Ranch was excellent. There is just so much to comment on. Tyler and Jenna (owners) have created a wonderfully warm atmosphere that makes it easy to relax. They are always available and happy to assist in any way they can. The meals were great, and there was never a shortage of very good food! Our cabin was lovely - clean, spacious, comfortable, cosy, and had wonderful views. The cabins were spaced throughout the property in a way that offered lots of privacy, yet very close to the main lodge. Dining at the main lodge offered some fantastic views of the mountains. We rode every day that we were there. The horses are great and well-chosen for the rider. The trails were fun and challenging (in a good way) at the same time. Of the wranglers, Billy stands out in how exceptional he was. He is great with horses, great with people, and a great teacher! I am new to riding and his feedback elevated my skills in only two days of riding with him. Overall, this was a fantastic vacation. There were no negatives. I would highly recommend!!!

Wanted to do another ranch vacation!

We decided to try a vacation at Three Bars Ranch. Contacted Tyler (the owner) through their website. It was super easy to contact him & get our bookings done. Tyler is very responsive. We got in late. Dinner was waiting. Food was awesome throughout the week. Met our horses - these guys have awesome horses. Well trained, sure footed, strong, & ready to go. I was very impressed by the horse given to me. The wranglers are great. Billy stands out. He's knowledgeable, friendly, and respectful. We asked for tips around riding & he helped my girlfriend get full control of her horse. This was her first ranch vacation. I have been on 8 ranch vacations & I loved this place. Don definitely stands out. He's 85 & rides like a bat out of hell!! Lastly, I want to thank Jenna. She's Tyler's boss & better half. She's an excellent horsewoman, wrangler, & also knows how to run a kitchen. We met her 2 kids. I can tell you that's she's also an awesome mom!

Three Bars Ranch - Highest Level of Care

Tyler and his crew were exceptional throughout the process...... a truly first rate experience. Tyler and his ranch maintain a professional and high integrity business. Despite all the Covid mess - Three Bars exceeded expectations and were so helpful.

Fantastic Dude Ranch Vacation

The riding trails are gorgeous and even the walking rides explore photo-worthy overlooks and vistas along creeks. Being a prior horse owner myself, it mattered to me that they had enough stock so that their horses ended the season enjoying their work rather than getting sour. I was there for the closing week in September. My horse was a generous, gentlemanly guy who had worked his share during the season. But he came to me with two weeks off and was a willing and enthusiastic companion for my six days. For those who are rusty like myself, I advise getting into the saddle a few times before coming for your week. The trails have some challenging inclines and the rides are a couple of hours each half day. After the first day, which is all walking rides so that everyone can get acclimated, rides sort out into paces based on the rider's ability and interest. Each half day they send out walking, walk / trot, and walk / trot / lope rides. Three Bars also accommodated some folks who wanted flatter, shorter rides. They had a great time. Lessons are available, using the horse you have become familiar with during the week. Non-riders can go hiking, rafting when water is higher, fly fishing, shooting and take out ATV's. The food was plentiful and fresh. I was active every day and I still came back a few pounds heavier. My only change next time would be to leave off the rental car in Cranbrook. It never moved for my week at the ranch.

Incredible Experience!

Outstanding experience! The entire week exceeded every single expectation we had prior to arrival! The ambiance of the Ranch combined with the incredible vistas of the BC countryside easily made this one of our top getaways! The Beckley Family and their dedicated team provided us with an authentic and exciting week of " ranching ". The kitchen staff provided us with meal after meal of first class food and service and we found the entire staff to be competent, caring and committed. If you are looking for a vacation getaway that is " off the beaten path " so to speak, Three Bars Guest Ranch is a must do!

Exceeded all of our expectations!

Three Bars Ranch has some of the nicest people we have ever met running and working on the ranch. From Jenna and Tyler who manage the guest ranch to all of the wonderful wranglers. We rode with Billie, Dana, Anita, Wyatt and Will, every ride was different and better then the last we couldn't pick a favorite because they were all so great! As wranglers they are all professional young people with truly outstanding horsemanship skills. The horses were amazing we rode Frosty and Flint two of the best horses we have ever ridden and not your typical trail horses they had plenty of spirit and character. As for the accommodations the log cabins are huge, comfortable, clean and very nicely decorated with hand made wooden furniture and the food was amazing! We had something different every breakfast, lunch and dinner! We would highly reccomend this beautiful ranch vacation. The location, the views, the people and the horses all excceeded our highest expectations!

Exceeded all expectations

We had the most amazing stay which was certainly, in the words of the children, " better than Disney ". We were so lucky to have a huge lodge with every comfort and the food was generous and of excecllent quality. The flexibility of the riding and activity programme meant that we never felt over organized and were all able to ride within our capabilities. The girls had disappeared and made new friends within 10 minutes of our arrival, and throughout the stay preferred to ride, eat and do everything with 'the kids'. Thank you for providing a safe environment which meant that we felt comfortable for them to do this. Your family are excellent hosts and your biggest asset are your staff. All your Wranglers do an amazing job, whether on horseback, guiding us through activities, or entertaining and socializing with the guests We enjoyed being part of the banter. Don't change anything. Our only regret is that we wish we'd stayed longer.

Very, Very Special Place!

Three Bars is a very special place! We had never done a stay like this before and weren't sure what to expect. What a wonderful experience! Beautiful horses and scenery, super friendly (Australian) wranglers and guests and wonderful hospitality from the family who run the ranch. Our children (ages 6 and 10) were so genuinely happy - doing the activities and in the evenings when we could just hang out as a family or with new friends. They are already asking to go back. We may have to figure out a way to make it back here at some point!

Wow wow wow

My friend and I have always wanted to go Ranching. 20 years ago we met through a riding club at our school so decided to celebrate our " Frendsaversary " by ranching in Canada. As soon as we saw 3 bars on line we were hooked and desperate to book in. We are so pleased we did. The grounds are stunning and well maintained. As soon as you drive up and park up you are greeted by Skittles the goat, And Bailey the Donkey. It had been a long while since we had been riding and I was very nervous. All the Wranglers were amazing all week. Helping me with my technique and confidence. We loved that we had the same horse for the week and would always look forward to being with them. I had Mojo and my friend had Apache. Both beautifully natured. The team of Wranglers are top class. We enjoyed every trail ride we went on. We went on a few trail rides with Billy who has incredible knowledge and horsemanship. He was very good with helping keeping me calm and enjoying the rides and beautiful scenery. We also got to spend the evenings with other wranglers Sophie, Chloe, Anita and Dayner who were such a great laugh. We rode everyday and the Beckley's were so welcoming. We saw Tyler and Jenna everyday who would help organise what activities we wanted to do and what kind of rides we wanted to go on. We loved that meal times were communal allowing us to meet more people and we ate with different people everyday and have now made friends for life. The food was amazing and varied too. The evenings were fantastic with various activities put on for everyone to enjoy. We laughed everyday. All day. It really was the most incredible week. We would both love to go back. (If they can cope with two crazy English girls 😃)

Best vacation in years!

Do you know how difficult it is to take a vacation that everyone in the family enjoys (including two teenagers) ? Well, we found it. Three Bars Ranch is hands-down the best. Our two teenagers (16 & 15 years old) had a blast with the wranglers (Will, Billy, Patrick, & Sophie were some of their favorites) but the whole crew was fun, professional, dedicated and knowledgeable. I still don't know how they are able to screen and hire such a crack team of wrangles each summer (almost all from Australia & New Zealand) but this is a big part of the atmosphere and the experience on the ranch. We were so impressed with the amenities too. The cabins were large and comfortable, the food was good, the bar a wonderful meeting place after dinner, and the laundry was convenient and appreciated. With the daily trail rides, the afternoon activities (ATVs, rafting, tubing, skeet shooting, archery, fishing, pool, ping-pong, cowboy jousting, just to name a few) there was NO time to be bored. My husband and I were able to have some rides by ourselves while the kids hiked to a waterfall. There were NO fights all week.... not even a little dust-up. The Beckley family really knows how to run a guest ranch. Tyler visits each family at meal times to check in, find out what they want to do the next day and to see if there is anything that is needed. Everyone is invested in things running smoothly and seeing that the guests are having a wonderful time. We'll be back!

still a perfect retreat

this was our third visit to this special place but not our last - we just can't fault it! the Beckley family are incredible hosts, who make running a ranch look easy (it really can't be!). From comfortable cabins to great food, talented wranglers, beautiful trails and amazing horses, they've just got it right. We had a fantastic time - my daughters and I rode every day, and my husband relaxed. There are lots of non-riding experiences available if you prefer not to ride, and a casual bar to relax in at night. If you're comparing ranches for your first trip - choose this one, but be warned, it gets booked up pretty quickly!

Trip of a lifetime

To say my visit to Three Bars Ranch exceeded my expectations, would be an understatement! Tyler and Jenna have done a terrific job creating an inviting and friendly environment. The kitchen, service, and cleaning staff are just lovely and are always willing to accommodate guests to the best of their abilities. The cabins are exceptional! I stayed in one of the new Black Series modern cabins, and it was truly remarkable. The log cabins are also fantastic and offer authentic Western flare. You really can't go wrong with whichever cabin you choose, as the views are spectacular anywhere on the property. Finally, the wranglers and horses. As an avid rider, I was beyond pleased to see how well the horses are cared for. The wranglers are very knowledgeable, considerate, and patient. The majority of the guests present when I vacationed had never ridden before. Many remarked how impressed they were with how attentive the wranglers were and how comfortable they felt in their care. As many other reviews indicate, the wrangler staff really go out of their way to genuinely connect with the guests. Beyond the riding, the days are full of activities including river rafting, ATV-ing, tubing, hiking and so much more. I honestly cannot say enough about Three Bars ranch. If you are considering a ranch vacation, look no further :)

People make the difference

My daughter and I just returned after a week at this ranch in British Columbia. The ranch is in a beautiful setting and the service and amenities are excellent. What differentiates this ranch from the pack however is the people. It starts with the atmosphere that is created by the Beckley family. You feel a little bit like you are visiting with a friend who just happens to own a ranch. The wranglers handle a variety of different tasks with flair including rafting, off roading on ATV, s and shooting. They also manage the bar at happy hour and have dinner with the guests which we really enjoyed. They excel at the main job which is to provide guests with an enjoyable trail ride wherever it takes them. The views and terrain on the rides are truly special and easily matched our previous ranch vacations in Colorado. Guests were from all over which enriched the experience over the course of the week. I could not recommend this ranch more highly.

The Three Bars Report

This ranch is just perfect for what I was looking for; R & R & R (rest, relaxation, riding) break with some pampering. I have my own horses at home and it was so nice to just be handed my horse all tacked up, ride, and afterwards hand the horse back. Meals were prepared with evening entertainment afterwards or after dinner I could just go and crash in my log cabin with a good book. The ranch is set in a stunning location surrounded on all sides with mountains and forests. Having the owners on site and looking after you is definitely a bonus. At every meal Tyler stopped in at our table to make sure we were happy and if we had any requests. My log cabin was clean and comfortable. Housekeeping came in every day while we were out riding. The food is very good with lots of it. They catered to anyone with special diets. The meals are served buffet style with good choices. The horses are all well cared for and in good shape. Wranglers looked after everyone very carefully, whether you were a beginner, novice, or experienced rider. It is all " nose to tail " single file riding as the trails really dictate that. All the rides had spectacular scenery, forests, mountains, streams, river, meadows, etc. Every ride took a different trail but the Ted's cabin ride and the wale ride are especially beautiful. The all-day ride on Friday stops for a barbeque lunch down by the river. There is a maximum of 5-6 riders in each group which included one or sometimes two wranglers. There is a hike to see a beautiful waterfall. Tuesday afternoon is usually shooting practice and the wranglers kept everything very safe and running smoothly. Wednesday afternoon I went ATVing which was great fun. So if you are looking for a dude or working ranch that you can get rough and ready working cattle etc. then this is not the place for you. It is a guest ranch with riding and other activities where you are a pampered paying guest. Thank you to Tyler, Jenna and family for a wonderful week. Would I go again to this ranch…. yes for sure.

Amazing Ranch!

This ranch is so vast. Tyler and Jenna are incredible at looking after people. They are so accommodating and lovely. The rooms are very spacious and convenient and the beds are really comfortable too. Dinner was delicious every night and they cater to your dietary needs. Plenty for children to do there to keep them happy. They even had a guitarist / singer who was pretty good that came in one evening. Every mealtime Tyler would come and let you know about the rides or upcoming events - even though they are posted on the board as you enter the main lodge. The grounds are well cared for and Tyler and Jenna never stop. They run a photography workshop with Ryan Courson in May and it is worth every penny. You can ride every day - morning and afternoon and they look after you for different levels of riding skills. The ranch is just over 21000 acres and they lease 65000 acres of crown land which they use for cattle range and tenure to take trail rides. There is a beautiful place called Spring Pasture in Wycliffe Plains which is about 5 minutes away with another 120 acres that I went to as well. Just an amazing place to spend your holiday

Wonderful vacation

We spent 6 nights at Three Bars Ranch. The cabins were lovely and cleaned daily. They were very comfortable. All the horses are healthy and fit and I enjoyed every ride. My horse was well matched to my ability. The wranglers were a lot of fun and ensured that we went on a different trail for every ride. I had the best trail ride that I ever had with Georgia as my wrangler. I wished that I had a go pro to film that ride because it was exactly what you picture a trail ride through the Rockies to be. The meals were delicious and offered a good variety of selection. The staff were very helpful. I will definitely return for another vacation.

Gracious Hosts, Delicious Meals, Best Vacation. Horseback Riding at its Best

What a wonderful adventure our group from Wisconsin had. We appreciated the personal touch all staff had, they made us feel welcome each and every day. Informative, enjoyable rides, led by knowledagble Trained wranglers. Wow, such beautiful surroundings. It took our breathe away each time we went out, and no two rides were the same. Thank you Ben, Pip, Wacey, Rory and Erin for taking such great care to make sure our riding needs were met. Tyler, we appreciated that you checked in with us and truly cared that we were having a great time. The meals were flavorful and varied! No two meals were the same. There was a variety to meet everyone's needs. We enjoyed breakfast on the mountain and lunch by the river. Your cook did a super job! I am glad he recently became a part of your ranch family! Each and every meal left us ready for our days activities. (Which for me consisted of riding my trusty steed Badger) every chance I got. Cabins and accommodations were up to date and clean. They were just what we would have expected, and felt just like home after a day in the mountain air. We were fortunate to see views of the Rockies after weeks of them being covered by clouds of ash. Many enjoyed rafting, splashing in the river, fishing, seeing elk, watching reining, hiking to the waterfall, the rodeo and " being " in a lounge chair. There were activities for everyone, even though atv riding was out due to fire risk which was out of everyone's control. Tyler and Jenna, thank you for sharing this experience with us. We had a wonderfully memorable vacation. Your ranch has left strong ties to the mountains, and your wrangler family is part of our families now. Happy Days with restful nights Katie

Amazing place

I loved every minute of my time here. The cabins are great, the surroundings are beautiful and the riding and activities are wonderful. However, what makes this place so special are the people. The Beckley family are great hosts, they do their very best to make your stay a life enhancing experience. The wranglers are amazing. I have never known such a cohesive team of charming young people. They socialise with the guests and it all adds to the enjoyment. The food was excellent and there was plenty of it. The kitchen staff were very pleasant and they went to a lot of trouble to accommodate my gluten intolerance. Very highly recommend this place for a complete break. As we left, the daughter of one of our new friends was sobbing in her room at the thought of leaving- I honestly felt like joining her!

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE IN ALL RESPECTS

The ten of us very much enjoyed our stay at the Three Bars Guest Ranch. The overall atmosphere of the Ranch, the personnel, the accommodations, the food, the planned activities, and location all far exceeded any expectations we had.

Fantastic family horse ranch vacation

We spent five days at the Three Bar Ranch - it was fantastic. The staff and wranglers are very client focused and everything we asked for was provided and more. It was a wonderful family vacation with kids rides and kids programs in the evenings. There was something for everyone - riders and non riders alike. The food was very good - always lots of variety. It was indeed the trip of a lifetime.

2017-07-27 05:42:45

Lots to do

Fantastic location, 20 mins from Cranbrook airport, therefore no need for a hire car as the ranch will arrange for you to be picked up. Rooms were rustic but well equipped. Food was OK but don't expect Micheline quisine. But that is not why you would choose this type of holiday. Its all about the activities that are available which were all well managed, safe and were varied. We rode every morning (the location is outstanding with lots of varied routes) and chose to do other activities in the afternoon, hiking, shooting, rafting and fly fishing - all of which were managed by the wrangling staff who were friendly and patient. Although there is plenty to do you are not pressured to do things that you aren't comfortable with.

Family Vacation

Every year, our extended family plans a weeks vacation. It usually involves sitting our behinds on a beach for 7 days with a few activities sprinkled in. This year we chose Three Bars Ranch... and it was the BEST family vacation to date. Some of our teenagers were a bit worried that they wouldn't have cell coverage, and god forbid if the couldn't get on snapchat or Instagram to send selfies out to the world. They were pleasantly surprised as they were TOO busy to even care about caring their phones with them every second of the day. The riding (twice a day), and the mid-day and nightly activities were a blast.... everyone was able to sign up for what suited them for the day. Tyler and the team were beyond accommodating for everyone's particular WANTS. It was great for everyone to connect back with Nature and enjoy good company, good food and excellent hospitality. Tyler, Jenna and the whole staff were amazing! It was awesome how we instantly felt part of a bigger family. Thanks Three Bars Ranch, for giving us the best family vacation ever! Hope to see you all soon.

AMAZING PLACE!!

Visited in June with a girlfriend (her second visit). Picked up at airport and next day riding the perfect horse. This is the place to come if you want to ride ride ride and get more comfy riding! Tyler checked in 2 x a day to find out what type of ride you wanted. Slow, fast, long, short or a certain trail. You were accomodated even if it meant you were the only one out with the wrangler. Wranglers fun and responsible. Ranch food as it should be-fresh, not fancy and plentiful. Other fun activities available but we just rode-that's what we were here for!. Did the waterfall hike. Amazing! lThe kids vacationing there all seemed to be having a great time! Great hospitality in beautiful cabins with amazing views. Saw elk, wild turkeys, coyote and praire dogs and some deer only a few feet away. Thanks for a great holiday

Trip of a lifetime

We just returned from a week at Three Bars Ranch. After planning the trip for a year, my husband had to travel for work so it was just my 12 year old daughter and I who were able to go. I was afraid this would ruin the trip but it worked out so well!! First of all - you need to have realistic expectations before you visit a guest ranch - this is not a 5 star resort or spa but an active vacation experience. There are bugs and dirt and so much nature! It reminded me of family camp that we went to for years, but much, much nicer. LODGING - We stayed in cabin # 1. It had 2 queen beds, a recliner, small table and chairs, 2 closets and bathroom with shower / tub. There is no A / C and we were there during a heatwave. Amazingly, if you keep the windows and shades shut during the day, then open the windows at night, it stays quite cool in the room! I asked for a fan on arrival and we kept it running all night which helped with air circulation. There is another room behind ours in the cabin, but we never heard any noise at all! The room was freshened each day. There are 2 Adirondack chairs on the porch and hooks to hang jackets / helmets outside. There is a TV but we didn't even turn it on once! FOOD- They completed the out door patio roof while we were there so it was very pleasant to eat outside every meal! The first night I felt quite lonely (it just being the 2 of us!) but 3 of the wranglers / workers joined my daughter and I and we had a great conversation. Every meal after that, there were plenty of people to visit with and Lydia ate with the other kids. Food is served in a buffet line. It is not fancy, but there was always lots of salad and veggies at lunch and dinner. Friday evening the cedar planked salmon with a maple glaze was incredible!! (there was also the option of steak). Apparently the new chef started a few weeks ago but he was catching on quite quickly. There were always cookies, bars or some other simple dessert along with a basket of apples, bananas and oranges. Each table had water, lemonade, and tea available. Breakfast always had the option of cold cereal and oatmeal along with a hot entree (could be eggs, potatoes, french toast, sausage, bacon etc.....) along with a big bowl of seasonal fruit salad (melon, strawberries, pineapple....) The homemade pizza on Wed was outstanding. one day we had a ride to breakfast where they cooked out on a propane grill in the woods and on Friday our lunch was grilled down by the river. Eating out is always a struggle with my daughter (she never knows what to order..) but this was perfect! Meals were served, she ate! No trying to figure out where to go! RIDING My daughter rides (western) 2-3x a week, but I had only been on a horse a couple of times. I did take a couple lessons before going to the ranch just to get comfortable. The horses were perfectly chosen for each rider - my horse was an expert on just following along in the row (slowly - thank goodness) but Lydia went on trotting and loping rides (fast). We rode together the first morning and then she went with other kids for the rest of the week. There were some parts that were intimidating for me (steep hills up and down at places) but the wrangler went slowly and talked us through it (I did close my eyes a couple times and just let the horse follow the path as I didn't want to see where I was!!!) The rides were 1.5-2 hours with a break in the middle to get off. That helped out those of us whose knees got sore! I rode all 5 mornings and Lydia did 3 afternoon rides. ACTIVITIES We participated in all the activities offered. Some thought the whitewater rafting was pretty tame, but as I have never been, it was a great introduction to the water. Again - the temperature was super hot (mid-90's) so the water felt great! I went on the Monday afternoon hike. It was a bit challenging, especially for the older people in our group, but the waterfall was beautiful. There was skeet shooting one afternoon (I took a nap instead but Lydia participated!), swimming, volleyball, and one hot night they got out the old firetruck to do fire engine games (and soaked the kids and wranglers) MISC The ranch has a laundry room (coin operated machines) available which you will need after the dust and dirt of riding. You can rent boots for $30 (much cheaper than buying your own - though we brought ours). Probably the biggest problem the week we were there was with the heat and dust which is out of the ranches control. They provided water bottles for each guest and always had ice water available for refills... this helped a lot with hydration. We slathered ourselves with sunscreen first thing each day and did not get burnt though the sun shone every single day. It helped that many of our rides were in the forest. The other problem was the MOSQUITOES. Apparently this is quite unusual but with lots of winter moisture followed by the high heat, they came out in swarms. I tried to buy bug spray in Cranbrook but every single store was sold out. Fortunately Jenna had bought the last few bottles and had them at the desk for anyone to use that wanted to. As long as we kept that on, we were fine. STAFF AND WRANGLERS Tyler has done a wonderful job hiring his workers - from the kitchen staff to the farm hands to the wranglers - everyone was friendly and engaging. After the guests got their food and sat down to eat, the workers got their food and joined us... filling in spaces at the tables. It was so fun to learn to know them - they ranged from the nanny from Spain, a farm hand from Austria, kitchen help from New Zealand and Canada and wranglers from Australia. I assumed wranglers would be men, but 7 of the 9 were young women and they were fantastic with the kids (and adults). I was a bit concerned when my daughter went on rides without me but I found out that all the wranglers are first aid certified (one is a nurse) and have to go thru quite the screening process to even get a work visa to come to Canada. Tyler gets hundreds of applications and he has definitely hired the cream of the crop!! Much thanks to these wonderful young men and women for making our trip a success. THE BEST PART When I had read the ranch the ranch brochure, it talked about kids rides and activities and how the kids had fun together. I figured it was exaggerating. NOPE!! There were 6 boys and 6 girls between the ages of 10-13. After the first night of volleyball when the wranglers got the kids involved, they became inseparable. They rode together, swam, ate together, played manhunt for hours (sort of like hide and seek tag), sang with Erin (a wrangler) and learned to line dance. I rarely saw Lydia after that - she was having so much fun!!! I know this is a long review, but there is so much more I could say. This is a very expensive place to visit, but when you factor in lodging, food, activities..... plus the friendships that were forged, it ends up being quite a bargain. I will definitely recommend Three Bars to my friends and I hope we can visit again. Lydia plans on going back as a wrangler. in SEVEN years!

Reluctant teenager thanks parents for amazing trip..

Yep. That's where this review starts.... the end. As the 6 of us piled into the minivan for the drive back to the airport, our eldest politely asked my wife and I to listen as he had something important to say... " Mom, Dad, I want to thank you for this vacation. And I want to apologize for the things I said, the complaining before we came. I had an amazing time. Thank you very much ". This from a kid who was upset because he thought " three bars " related to poor cellular coverage when we revealed our plans. Who wants to go to a horse ranch in the middle of nowhere Canada and hang out with their family when they can be on a beach at the Cape with their friends? Our son does. And so do his two sisters and younger brother. Thank you very much to everyone at Three Bars for an unforgettable experience. For my part, I have always thought of horses in the light of an animal sci-fi horror... see: Planet of the Apes... it's never been clear to me why they tolerate anyone on their backs and I feared their enlightenment during my presence. So, I had only been on horses twice in my life and for very short periods of time. The team at Three Bars spent a great deal of time matching horses with riders and it made a huge impact on our family. On just the second day I found myself comfortably encouraging, thanking and trusting " Baldy " my riding partner for the week as he descended a pretty steep, rocky path with all 210 lbs of me leaning back and trying to make it manageable for him. Tyler and Jenna. Lovely people. Welcoming, attentive and supportive. Jenna greeted us day one and immediately connected with our 12 year old to talk about his dietary needs. Every day we showed up for a meal she talked to him about the options for his food. That was truly wonderful for him... he felt special, not different. Tyler is something of a ranch mashup of the cast of Loveboat - mostly captain Stubing, a little Isaac, Julie and yes Gofer (sorry Tyler but I was specifically channeling the fire engine games). He went out of his way to ensure that each member of our family was having the best vacation possible. The wranglers - were all outstanding, personable, young (mostly) people whose love of horses and hard work in support of our unwinding time was obvious and much appreciated. Spending time with people who so clearly enjoy what they're doing is contagious. And then there was Don. Who was that curious older gentleman with the spurs? We had the pleasure of dining with Three Bars' senior statesman wrangler and to hear his story. North of 80, working and riding with guests daily is retirement for this former dentist. Amazing. Such a lovely man and it says a lot about a place that he works there. Shout outs to Erin and Wacey for the incredible live music. We met fellow guests from all over and really enjoyed our time riding, eating, fly fishing, rafting, shooting, just hanging on the porch or the bar and oh yeah... acting like idiots and bashing each other around playing zorb soccer in the most picturesque surroundings imaginable. Can't say enough, but then I have never written a review this long about anything... so I'll leave it at this.... if you can make it happen, go, it's magical.

would give more stars if possible!

our family spent 3 nights mid-June at Three Bars. initially i had to talk my husband into this, but after one night he said we should have stayed a week! and our whole family agreed. it is a slice of heaven. the views and location are just gorgeous. we had adjoining cabins-kids on one side & us on the other-with large, wonderful rooms. every meal was delicious, and meeting other guests and wranglers during the meals was nice. plenty of activities aside from riding to keep our kids active, & entertained. and for a family of rookie riders, the wranglers were wonderful! Tyler & Jenna do an absolutely fantastic job in taking care of everything. hardest part was leaving!

5 Stars for the 3 Bars!

If you're thinking of visiting a dude ranch in the US or Canada, then this is the one to go to! They don't come much better than the Three Bars Ranch in British Columbia. Tyler and Jenna are excellent hosts and they have a superb team of wranglers, mainly Australians. The lodge and surrounding cabins are stunning with amazing views of snow-capped mountains. Out of the 14 ranches I've visited, this one has the best cabins. Solid, spacious cabins with comfortable chairs on a covered porch. They are tastefully furnished, and equipped with a safe, fridge, coffee machine and satellite television. I had a blossom tree just off the porch where a woodpecker liked to hang out. I have seen very few woodpeckers in the UK - maybe one or two - so it was great to just sit and watch him pecking away! The beds are high but super-cosy and comfy. There's a bath as well as a shower, and the water is always very hot, so no need to venture over to the hot tub to soak those aching muscles. The meals were extremely good; Jenna has fine-tuned her menu to perfection. Make sure you try the strawberry jam and also the blueberry pancakes. We had blueberry pancakes on the breakfast ride and I still regret not going back for seconds! The brownie bars on the all-day ride are just the best! Unfortunately Jenna is reluctant to give away her recipe! Mealtimes at the Three Bars are definitely worth looking forward to! Oh, just remembered, the bread is also worth a mention! Yum-my! The wranglers are exceptional - very friendly and fun to ride with. A ranch needs good wranglers as they are the ones the guests spend most of their time with; the Three Bars wranglers are the best! A really great bunch of young people! There was no river rafting whilst I was there; not that I'd have done it anyway! The river was too high and fast-flowing. I would have liked to have a go at the shooting but it meant missing out on a ride so I didn't do it. Those that did seemed to really enjoy it. The weather was extremely varied. T-shirts at beginning of the week but 4 layers - yes 4! - towards the end of the week! If mosquitoes find you attractive, make sure you pack some mozzie repellent. They weren't bad but I wasn't expecting any. Luckily I'd packed some antihistamine cream. In the early morning and evenings elk can often be spotted grazing in the pasture below the lodge. The ranch horses were a great bunch - doesn't matter whether you're an experienced rider or have never ridden before, they seemed to have horses to suit everyone. I had a brilliant horse called Apache - very responsive and fun to ride. There were also a couple of mares with foals on the ranch; that was a big bonus for me as I think it's the first ranch I've been to which had foals. The little filly in particular is very friendly and loves attention. So cute! Definitely 5 Stars for the Three Bars Ranch!

Dual impression

We've never lived on the ranch before. So the Three Bars Ranch looks, for us, like a working ranch with hundred horses but it's a vacation ranch too with 20 log cabins, Recreation Lounge and all facilities listed on the website. The pros: 1. The ranch has great location with beautiful scenery 2. Owners Tyler and Jenna were very welcoming 3. The cabin was spacious and comfortable 4. The ranch offers great choice of activities 5. The rides were wonderful 6. The wranglers were very friendliness and helpfulness The cons: 1. You couldn't connect to Internet from cabin just from the lobby or out of cabin. Wi-Fi was like a snail with download speed around 1 Mbps and upload speed less 0.1 Mbps. So if you have a plan to make some job from there - forget about it. 2. Be ready for meeting the big ants and some spiders in your cabin. It's mother nature for you! 3. Notwithstanding the fact you pay more than 350 CAD per day for each person, you'll be charged 30 bucks for renting the special riding boots ; ( 4. The real disappointment was a food. Buffet was limited in amount and variety. Food was bland. One day was over dry chicken, another one - tough, half-done beef, except the BBQ ribs we had one night. It was real delicious. For the amount of money we spent, we expected more from the kitchen. But anyway any experience is useful experience: horses were peaceful and great, trails were good and the pool and hot tub were like a bonus. P. S. Advice: Don't be lazy to wake up earlier in the morning to see the horses coming back in to the coral and take some shots.

G'Day, G'week, G'Time

Our First Dude Ranch, and certainly not our last. Three Bars Ranch was a perfect vacation for us. It offered adventure, thrill, laughs or relaxation for those faint of heart. The cabins are clean, food is great and service extraordinary. Tyler and Jenna love what they do and it show it the day to day operations and with their hospitality. We met lovely families and brilliant friend's from England, Germany, Australia, US and Canada …ayyy. We award 3 Bars with 5 Gold Stars!

Awesome week filled with adventure!!!

Just returned from vacationing at Three Bars Ranch. The facility is wonderful, great cabins, clean and comfortable with plenty of room and a front porch with chairs to hang out on. Large lodge for eating and socializing with the other quest, wrap around porch with rockers and plenty of seating. Food was awesome, buffet style and indoor and outdoor seating. The riding program is first class, and the wranglers are fun and great to work with. The countryside is absolutely beautiful. The availability to ride horses all day everyday is a plus. My horse (Radar) was amazing! Rides for all levels from walking to trotting to loping. Also went river rafting (river is a bit low at the moment) we had a blast nonetheless. Water fights on the river made for a fun afternoon with the other quest. Spent an afternoon on the river fly fishing, quiet and peaceful place to hang out, chose to go to the river without a tour guide. The all day ride to the top of the mountain was the high light of all the rides. The breakfast ride was a lot of fun also. The experience was better than expected... There are no disappointments to report, staff is friendly and accommodating. The small size of the ranch made for a quaint, comfortable family atmosphere. Highly recommend this ranch for anyone who enjoys riding and adventure in a fun, friendly environment. Thanks everyone for a wonderful birthday celebration week!!! Loved very moment on the ranch ;)

A little piece of Heaven

Visiting Canada had always been a dream of ours, Tyler and his family made us feel so welcome and there was nothing they wouldn't do to make our stay Fantastic!! All the wranglers are experienced riders, and we felt very safe in the more than capable hands. The horses were amazing and so easy to ride, so easy in fact I will be taking up Western style riding in the UK. We cannot fault Three Bars in any way, the cabins are spacious, the food is amazing, the hospitality is THE BEST!!! and I really really didn't want to leave. Thank you all for one of the best times of our lives and we will definatly be visiting again for many years to come xxx

A charming ranch experience

We've been in this ranch for a few days during our honeymoon from Italy. The accomodation, in a quite isolated area, is really gorgeous, both the main lodge and our wooden cabin. We had beautiful rides in the woods, and also a breakfast and a lunch in the forest. The crew is really professional and nice, ready to meet your requests. We advise this accomodation!

Ranch stay

What a fantastic experience!! 2 adults and a 9 year old child for a three night stay - our only regret is we didn't book for a week! We are novice riders, we can all trot comfortably but no more than that, however, all levels of experience was accommodated. The wranglers were friendly, horses chosen to suit our ability and rides designed to meet our needs. We met a range of nationalities at the ranch and all had fun. The accommodation was clean and authentic, food was plentiful and tasty and the evening entertainment was great fun!! All the kids had a great time but adults without children also enjoyed themselves. I cannot recommend this experience enough - it was brilliant.

Our new favorite family vacation!

We spent 6 nights at Three Bars last week and can't say enough great things. It is the perfect place for a family adventure. With young kids and as beginner riders, we were a little worried about how we would all do. Well, it couldn't have been any better. The horses are incredibly patient and the wranglers are unbelievable. Our kids were trotting within a day and we weren't far behind. As a family ranch, Tyler, April, Jenna, and the rest of the amazing crew make you feel welcome and comfortable from the moment you arrive. The accommodations were terrific and the scenery is just awe inspiring. And, for those who don't want to ride every day, there is a host of other activities, including hiking, river rafting, shooting, fly fishing, you name it. My kids told me this was the best vacation we've taken EVER! The only question left is how we are going to top this next year... it might have to involve a return trip to Three Bars. Thank you to everyone for an unforgettable time, and a special shout out to the Wranglers!

Paradise for our family of ten

With our own horse for the week and a Wrangler to guide us, we rode every day. We explored trails through the woods, crisscrossed the plateau and wandered the banks of the St. Mary River. Some of us took riding lessons in the afternoon, while others of us hiked, went swimming, river rafting and relaxed on the spacious lawn. The working cattle ranch is family owned, and we felt like special guests in this beautiful corner of British Columbia. The ranch is an all inclusive resort with warm and gracious hospitality. In addition to the horses there is a tennis court, hot tub, indoor swimming pool, billiard table, foosball, volley ball, archery, shooting lessons, lasso lessons and more. We are a family of three generations, ages ten to eight, and there were activities for everyone. The log lodge is the center of activity of the ranch. Private cabins are arranged around a manicured lawn. The cabins are decorated with western decor and feature hand hewed log furniture with private full bathrooms. The Wranglers and the Beckley Family are delightful hosts, making the Dude Ranch experience memorable.

Great Weeks holiday

We've just spent a week at the 3 Bars Ranch. The staff were great - really friendly and helpful - and we enjoyed the riding, my kids enjoyed the skeet shooting and rafting, and I managed to pack in a couple of afternoons fly fishing and caught half a dozen trout. The accommodation was comfortable and everything was well organised - with enough flexibility for us to do what we wanted.

2014-07-25 15:39:27

One of our best holiday experiences ever!

We are over 60 and had no previous experience of horse riding but that didn't matter. Our horses were allocated according to our ability, and the wranglers took good care of us. We didn't ride every day but there was plenty of alternative activities (hiking, white water rafting, indoor pool, golfing nearby, and even panning for gold!). It didn't matter if you were couples, family or single guests as everyone mixed in. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had an amazing time - I didn't want to leave!

Second to none

If you are looking for a ranch to go to look no more. Beautiful mountains wonderful people, great riding, great food, many different activities, wildlife all around you, and clean cabins. Our stay at Three Bars was the best vacation we have ever experienced. I would highly recommend this ranch if you are looking for a ranch to go to.

This is THE Guest Ranch for all the Right Reasons

My wife and I visited this wonderful ranch for five superb days of riding, whitewater rafting, skeet shooting, great food, and tremendous hosts. Tyler, his family, and the entire wrangler Team are simply the best. We had a wonderful time and look forward to returning. Laura, Courtney, Don, and Rowan -- part of the excellent wrangler team -- are a true pleasure to spend time with on the trail, enjoying excellent ranch fare, and simply laughing and singing during relaxation times. Tyler and the whole Team did an excellent job selecting the perfect horses for us based on the pre-trip questionnaire, and adjusting our tack to our preferences once we got there. Then there are the other guests we met while there -- especially a couple from England -- were having such an excellent time, that they made our time at the ranch even more special. The couple we travelled with, my wife, and I keep telling our other friends and colleagues that this is the place to go if you enjoy horse rides thru amazingly beautiful country, friendly people, comfortable accommodations, and excellent hosts.

Amazing guest ranch experience

Living in Hawaii means I like to vacation where there aren't necessarily a lot of beaches. Three Bars has picturesque mountains, towering trees and fantastic horseback riding. The Beckley's were great hosts and the week went by all too quickly. The ranch is a great holiday destination for solo travelers, couples, and families. The people I met and conversed with during the fourth week of June were fascinating and fun to be around. The horseback riding was geared to individuals of all levels including beginners like me. The scenery on the trails varied from a walk alongside a river to climbing (and descending) steep hills to meandering through a cluster of Christmas trees. The scenery was breathtaking, the air crisp and clean, the horses gentle and hardy. During breakfast, Tyler would ask us what kind of ride we wanted to go on (walking, trotting, etc) and there was no pressure to do rides that were beyond one's ability. Riding was always an option in the afternoons, but there was also an alternate activity offered each day such as hiking, skeet shooting, archery, gold panning, etc. The food that was served generally reflected the Western theme: burgers, BBQ pork ribs, meatballs, blueberry pancakes, steak. The salads served during dinner were fresh and delicious and complimented the entrees. The veggies (fresh and cooked) were carefully planned and not just an afterthought. The cabin I had was quite comfortable and I assume they all are. The main building (lodge) has coin operated washers and dryers, a pay telephone, a bar, and a small store with ranch logo merchandise. There is Wifi though I couldn't get a connection in my room. However, the lodge was a 15 second walk from my cabin so I could get a connection in the main building. It wasn't that big of a problem to relax in one of the big padded chairs in the lodge and send an email to my family telling them what fun activities I did each day. Last, but not least, the wranglers were awesome. They ate with us during meals and we found this diverse group of expert riders to be fascinating individuals. All of the wranglers were comfortable interacting with the guests, they were a polite bunch of guys and gals and they have good senses of humor. I would definitely recommend Three Bars as a vacation destination.

My daughter was married at this beautiful ranch

My daughter was married in September at this beautiful guest ranch. The setting (and the weather) was perfect. There was a lot to do - horseback riding, white water rafting, skeet shooting, fly fishing. It was a perfect venue. Everyone could find lots to do or not do. Just sitting on your deck soaking up the sun was enough for some. The staff took care of all the meals and were always around to help if needed.

Wonderful repeat vacation

I've stayed at Three Bars twice now and I know that it will be a regular vacation spot for me! I went first in June 2012 for 6 days and had such an amazing time (despite getting rained on for 4 days!), that I went back in September 2013 for 12 days! The cabins are quite large, beds are comfortable and underwent some renovations over the 2012 / 2013 winter to include new bathroom sink / counters, and the addition of televisions to the cabins. Honestly, I think I had the tv on three times.... and that was mostly over the weekend when the ranch does not cater to you. The wranglers are fantastic, it was nice to see Lou, Jamie and Gemma again, and of course Don! The new wranglers, Wacey, Taylor, Rachel, Blake were a great addition to the crew, and it was a great opportunity to make new friends. The horses were, as usual, amazing (I LOVE Tolo!!!), and the trails well kept and a couple new ones (Rocky Ridge) that I hadn't been along before. In September the Kokanee (spelling?) were starting to swim upstream, and crossing Perry Creek was fun, watching all the red salmon swim by, close enough to touch. Food was plentiful, tasty and filling, no complaints from me here. I love Three Bars for the peace and relaxation that it offers.... you can be as busy or as relaxed as you want. My favourite place to be after riding all day was on my front porch with a pot of coffee (or a glass of wine!), laptop music and a book.... I did that everyday, and it was awesome! The scenery can't be beat, and a relaxing hot tub in the evening while looking up at the stars is a great way to round out the day. Thank-you again to The Beckley family and Three Bars Ranch for another amazing vacation, I'm sure I'll be back again soon.

Wonderful Family Vacation

We would like to thank the Beckley Family and all their staff for the wonderful week our family spent on their ranch. It was all we expected and more. The accommodations were comfortable and the food good and plentiful. This was our first trip to the Canadian Rockies and we were blown away by the scenery. It was especially great to see it on horseback. The horse riding program was better than we hoped for. We were all very inexperienced riders and more than a little nervous. The staff did an excellent job of choosing our horses and we left at the end of the week feeling way more comfortable on horseback while still maintaning respect for horses. The wranglers were instrumental in this, they were very patient and calm and answered any questions or concerns we had fully. All of them were truly great and we felt confident in whom ever took us out. It was a great family vacation (for both experienced or inexperienced riders) and I would highly recommend it.

Riding High

We spent a fantastic week at Three Bars. The ranch is particularly well-suited for families, as kids can enjoy both structured activities and free time relaxing at the lodge game room or pool area with their new friends. What is most impressive about the ranch is the smoothness of the operation - Tyler and April manage to make it look easy to take care of 30-40 guests, 75 horses, activities, and an assortment of wranglers, cats, goats, sheep, dogs, cattle and pig. The layout of the guest cabins and main lodge is well thought out, giving room for quiet time in the cabin, but with a big lawn for evening games of capture the flag. The horses were very well-trained and interesting to ride, with trail rides going out twice a day through the trails around the property, including down to the St Mary's river, which is also the site for rafting and fishing. We also enjoyed the help of the wranglers in riding and other activities, and learning about the cattle operation from the cow boss.

Not for the child-free guest

Unfortuately we visited this ranch as a child-free couple as an add-on to a trip to the Calgary Stampede. The whole ranch was geared towards the children. This extended to meals, which were variations on chicken nuggets or burgers. I was assured in advance they could cater for gluten free food. This however seemed to consist of lettuce (no gluten free dressing) and a packet of gluten free cookies. I was so hungry that other guests began finding protein bars for me to eat! All the evening activities were child-centric as well. The rides themselves were very boring, since the policy appeared to be no going faster than a walk for at least 3 days (we only stayed that long) regardless of ability (I have my own horse and have ridden for over 40 years). However the highlight was the river rafting, which because of the floods the week before was extremely exciting and fast. Loved every minute of it! One wrangler (Jamie the Australian) was brilliant and seemed to be at the centre of everything. The rest were not really interested in hospitality. We wonder how it will be if Jamie left.

Nice Ranch, Great Aussie Wranglers

The Facilities like the Ranch Lodge and cabins are great. The Aussie Wranglers were very nice and did everything with us, (all activities). The food was very good. They had about 2 nice scenic rides and all the rest were in the trees. They do not have a childrens program but did offer a kid's ride. They try to keep all family groups riding together, so the rides are small. We did get to ride with other adults only when they offered the kids rides. The float trip was fun mostly because of the water fights (they have some kind of water guns). They do not offer any arena games or team penning, in my opinion they could offer this one day to break up the tree riding, plus their fun! The picture of the lodge on the web sight looks like the mountains are right behind it, but the picture is deceiving, the mountains are way off in the distance. Also I have been to some other ranches, and the Beckleys could be a little more friendler. If you talked to them they would talk to you but they never initiated it by their selves. I also think they could have a lodge western band / dance one night. The Beckleys son Tyler and his wife Janna is taking over the ranch / lodge part and I think Tyler is a little burnt out. I think if it wasn't for the wranglers, you would feel that they didn't care that much. The pool was so cold the first night because they forgot to fire up the furnace, but by Tuesday the kids could get in it. The Hot Tub was nice.

2012-08-27 16:07:31

nice but not worth the money

My family of four and I stayed here during our 3 week trip around Canada. The three bars ranch is like a real ranch and the highlight of our stay was DEFINITELY the horse riding, which we did around 4 hours daily. The rooms were nice and comfortable, with enough space for everything, yet the rooms were basic. The food was average, and it was all a bt bland other than the BBQ we had one night. For the kids, there were lots of daily activities on offer and it was in general child friendly. For the amount of money paid, I would expect something a bit more special, however the horse riding was fantastic and you really got to know the character of your personal horse (mine was Sage for anyone who goes, he's a real character!)

2010-03-28 17:19:49

Nice but overpriced

I had a week at the ranch in September 2009. The cabins were lovely, the wranglers and staff in general were all good. The pool and hot tub were nice. The not so good parts for me were most of the riding was very tame if you're an experienced rider. After a couple of the same trails all done in walk I was bored. The other thing is I felt for the cost of the ranch the food was on the poor side. I expected a much higher standard. A couple of us also asked for a western riding lesson which we never got. We also asked to watch Jeff doing some reining which we didn't get either. I felt that once they had your money they wern't too bothered.

2013-08-16 12:50:37

More like camp than guest ranch

Horses were great, trails were fantastic, accommodations were great, setting is spectacular and the pool & hot tub were a really nice bonus. BUT.. Food was very average, buffet was limited in amount and variety - much more like what you would expect at a bed and breakfast. Their website says they can accommodate vegans and vegetarians but good luck with that! Meal times were too time limited and no food was available in between - bring your own snacks! Riding program was not flexible. No matter your riding experience you all start out like beginners and have to work your way up. As for service, it was clear they do not have any hospitality training. Most places will go out of their way to make you happy so you will become repeat guests or at least give them a recommendation. Not so, you get what you get and they want you to accommodate to them. We've been to better (Rancho de los Caballaros in Arizona) and we will stick to those instead. Much better value for the price point.

2009-08-09 17:50:57

Pass on this one, no service and no smiles

While the cabins were nice enough and clean, management was very rigid and inflexible. It seemed as if they had never thought to use accomodating and guest in the same sentence; Rides were very short, only 2 hours morning and afternoon including half-hour breaks and scenery that was not particularly varied or remarkable; The " all day ride " only lasted from 9:30 to 3:30 with two hours for lunch. They said they would accomodate dietary restrictions, but made very minimal effort; i. e, they said they had lots of fresh fruit, but served canned fruit for 3 out of 6 breakfasts; Fishing opportunities were extremely limited and required long hikes to reach. Recommend you try elsewhere.

Wonderful, and worth every penny!

How do these guys do it? My husband, who is an accomplished rider and I, a complete novice, came to Three Bars in June 2010. I had no intention of riding and no-one tried to force my hand, which was a relief. As it happened, it looked so much fun that I did end up riding, with the support of the wranglers who took me gently through the basics until I felt confident enough to go on a trail ride. Wrangler April was patience personified with me, whereas my husband got to go out and ride to his own level when he wanted. Thanks too to Shannon and Anna for building up my confidence. The countryside is beautiful - even more so on horseback - and the point is to sit back and enjoy both. If you're looking for some sort of endurance test, this isn't the place to come - the focus is on fun and friendliness. The ranch is absolutely beautiful and the lodges are very cozy. The staff are just wonderful - friendly, knowledgeable and determined to make sure you have a good time. Thanks again to Alyce, Kane and Luke. Great food from Esther too, who catered especially for me as a non-meat eater! There is a real 'extended family' feel to the place, helped by the presence of owners Jeff and April, with their son Tyler, his wife Jenna and their gorgeous baby boy, Chase. Other trips included clay pigeon shooting and a hike to a nearby waterfall. The town of Cranbrook is a 10 minute drive away and has mall shopping facilities. This was my first trip to Canada and we will most certainly be back - this is one trip I'll be telling people about for years to come. Thanks to everyone at Three Bars for making our week so magical.

Seven Day Cowboys

Seventh time returning to Three Bars since 2003. Part of me does not want to share my love for this place with others but fairness dictates another stonking review. Returning with my wife and two sons (23 & 20) always makes me nervous because all our visits have been so good, but yet again we slipped into life on the ranch and had a ball. This years wrangling crew (led by local legend Don Wallace) were the best ever and our thanks go out to all of them for their fun attitude and obvious skills. We only ride at Three Bars and so their encouragement and confidence building is essential. As ever we encountered a diverse group of interesting / entertaining guests who made our stay excellent but I reserve my highest praise for the manner in which the Beckley family maintain and improve Three Bars on an annual basis. The cabins remain comfortable and well serviced, the food was again excellent, the activity programme beyond riding is both varied and challenging, there is some world class golf on the doorstep for those who are interested and my only complaint is that it is always over far too quickly. Coming from Northern Ireland we have no true western ties but always enjoy being seven day cowboys. For a fun vacation that offers outdoor adventure and excitement I have never found a better location. Already planning our 8th visit in 2013 so don't book until we have sorted our dates. To April, Jeff, Tyler, Jenna, Jesse, Dee, Chase, Mya, Don and the entire crew, thanks again for a brilliant stay. Martin McDowell, Belfast, Northern Ireland

Great holiday for all standards of riding

Our family stayed for a week in august 2011. I am an experienced rider but most guests were novice riders and they had horses to suit everyone. The horses were well looked after and the riding was easy mainly into the forest and up hilly inclines which the horses took in their stride. We had a fantastic week. The food was great and my husband played several games of golf on nearby courses. The great thing was my kids hooked up with other children staying and on an evening would play ball games in front of the cabin, as well as the other activities arranged. Don't worry if you have not riden before the horses and staff will look after you.

Great Views--Food, not so much

This is our 4th dude ranch vacation. Three Bars is nestled at the foot of the Kootenay Mountains--the setting is beautiful, quiet, and the accomodations (cabins) are superior as compared to other dude ranches insofar as they are very clean and well kept and nicely designed. The food, on the other hand, leaves a lot to be desired. This is supposed to be an award winning dude ranch (with accompanying price tag) and as such the food just has to be better. There was never any choice at any meal (fish was never offered) and the food itself was poorly cooked (ie. the " roast beef " was like shoe leather) and often cold if you are at the end of the chow line. And I don't subscribe to the idea that " it's a ranch and therefore you shouldn't expect much in the way of choice or quality when it comes to food ". The wranglers were competent and friendly and the horses were typical to what you would expect on a dude ranch. The terrain around the ranch was beautiful. New horses (recently purchased ones) were broken in to ranch and trail riding duties by the wranglers during the time they were escorting us dudes on trail rides. I don't think this is a good idea as during our stay two wranglers were thrown from their horses and ended up with some bumps and bruises. New horses should not be trained " on the job ". One last comment: I would have liked to see a little more effort by management to be sensitive to guest needs that are slightly out of the ordinary. My wife was a little too nervous to lope or gallop on her horse but wanted to do a lot of trotting. She tried to communicate this to the powers that be but often found herself in novice groups that mostly walked their horses. Surely there is enough flex so that a " trot group " can be orginized without too much trouble?

2012-09-05 08:13:44

Great family holiday

We spent a fantastic week with our 2 kids (10 and 8). Family run place with very friendly, but also professional, hosts. Room was basic but comfortable and very spacious. The ranch prides itself on having their own horses which they train. They don't rent from elsewhere. It shows - the horses were " alive " but tolerant and well known by the wranglers. Scenery is spectacular, and horse back a great way to see it. But don't expect to do more than trot. I daresay all ranches are similar, but there was some reluctance to canter / lope. Food was basic but fine. The cook was an excellent baker - the cakes were great! The layout of the place means you can meet other guests easily - indeed that is half the point of the place. Don't expect to be left alone! Met some super nice people. The kids love horses and rushed out at first light to be with them. All credit to the wranglers that they made that possible. They had an amazing time - lots of excitement, no requests for tv or iPods (yay!) and lots of learning about horses. The wranglers were, without exception, good company, experts at handling horses, " can-do ". A pleasure to spend the day with. The focus of the place is, rightly, on the riding and on that the ranch excels. My only reason for 4 stars is that the food is fairly basic. We would definitely go back!

Fantastic Vacation Experience for All

This ranch far exceeded my expectations. I spent a week at the ranch with my family in the summer of 2011 and we were all impressed with the facilities, horses, meals and activities. I came to the ranch expecting that there would be some 'bored' moments for our teenage children, and was thrilled when at the end of the week they asked if we could for a second. Some of the perks I feel I should share... The Staff: Polite, friendly, willing to help, answered all of our questions, helped to improve our riding ability, and made us feel like we belonged. The Beckley's often joined us for dinner and made us feel as though their home truly was our home. The showed the care and concern for each of us as individuals. The Horses: WOW!!! We have been to other ranches before, and some of my family ride regularily at home - they had a horse (and many more) that were suited to us perfectly. There aren't any ol' nags at Three Bars - nor are there any unco-operative, rude or ignorant horses either. The staff suits you to the horse that not only matches your riding ability, but personality as well. We never rode the same trail twice! The Food: You can expect incredible meals, home cooked, fresh, nothing deep fried and above all there is lots of food! Don't expected fine dining - they don't advertise it - but you can expect to eat VERY well all week long! The Cabins: Clean, comfortable, cool during the day and a great night sleep! The Activities: I can't say enough - volleyball, tennis, campfires, hikes to the waterfalls, roping lessons, golf, fly fishing, indoor pool, hot tub, Fireengine games, Casino Night... the list goes on and on. Our favorite (besides the riding) was the ATV tour that leaves from the ranch and heads into the purcell mountains! A MUST!! We love Three Bars, and will be returning in the summer of 2012!!! This place flts like a glove!

An experience not to miss - just a perfect place to be

Jeff and April, their family and staff hosted a superb holiday for me. The ranch is situated in a beautiful place with facilities second to none (the home cooked food is delicious). The team are courteous, great fun and provided me with a fantastic horseriding experience. A truly memorable time!

Excellent Family Vacation

Wow - we just returned from a fantastic week at the Three Bars Ranch. Lot's of fun and activities for our entire family. Great horses, fun things to do such as hiking, river rafting, camp fires, casino night. Not to mention, just letting the kids meet new friends and having the freedom to enjoy themselves either playing with the kittens in the barn, shooting pool, playing ping pong - or swimming. In all, a wonderful family vacation that I would highly recommend. I've also got to mention that my husband (who is not all that horse savvy) wasn't too sure about this trip (his primary sport is surfing). He too now gives rave reviews to Three Bars - from great horses, to ATVing, skeet / trap shooting and finally paint balling with our son. Great time with Tyler, Jenna, all of the wranglers - and April and Jeff. My kids are already asking if we can go back next year....

Another fantastic visit to Heaven

This was my second trip back to Three Bars Ranch, this time taking 2 teenage children and a 10 year old. They loved it and so did I. As always the place is just amazing and relaxing, staff brilliant fun and so helpfull. The Beckley Family are truly fantastic and amazing people and it was like we where coming home, they share their little piece of heaven with people each year rather than keeping it for themselves, a truly lovely family. The riding was great as always with some lovely Dude horses in fantastic terrain and also the reining horses to watch being worked was a pleasure. Well worth the visit, if you want a dude ranch experience without tackyness, and with amazing views this is the perfect place. Probably the best in the area.

BEST VACATION EVER in ALL ways!!!!!

The fly fishing at Three Bars Ranch was spectacular. My husband and I both fish, although I am new to fly fishing, and we fished every day during our stay at the ranch in August 2009. It's a short walk to St. Mary's River where the ranch controls over 7 miles. We didn't see a single person the entire time we fished. The only company was the daily sighting of a bald eagle. We caught several Wild West Slope Cut Throats ranging from 9 to 15 inches. We had constant hits in between the catches. The water was crystal clear and perfect temperature for wading with shorts. We really miss it! It was the best fishing we've experienced and a must activity for anyone staying at the ranch no matter what your level of experience. As far as the ranch in general, it was the most fantastic vacation we have ever had. Peace and quiet, great food, great people, gorgeous scenery and as much privacy as you desire. The horseback riding was awesome and so nice to have my very own horse for the week with rides to suit everyone. We can't wait to go back and we don't usually repeat vacation destinations since there are so many places we haven't been but this is an exception!

Perfect vacation for horse lovers

My husband and I stayed at the ranch for a week and agreed it was the perfect vacation for us. The Beckley family takes great pride in their ranch and their horses and this translates to a wonderful experience for their guests. I rode as much as I could every morning and afternoon, but my husband preferred to ride occassionally and do other activities. There was plenty for him to do - river rafting, ATV riding, skeet shooting, mountain biking, hiking. The hot tub was great every afternoon after riding, too. It was also very pleasant and relaxing to sit on the porch of your private cabin and read in the early morning and late afternoon. The reining demonstration by Jeff was fascinating and turned out to be a highlight of the week for me. The wrangler staff was the best I have seen at any ranch and consistently went out of their way to make sure every guest was enjoying their vacation. The food was not fancy but was very well prepared, plentiful and had a lot of variety to each meal. All in all, this was a terrific vacation spot and we will definitely return again!

Family fun!

I visited the ranch with my husband (a non-rider) and daughter and we all loved it. The welcome is genuinely warm and the setting is beautiful. The riding felt very safe in Western saddles and even our non-rider discovered his inner cowboy! The trail rides take you through some stunning scenery and then back at the ranch the hot-tub and pool sooth any aching muscles before a delicious dinner! Families of all ages are well catered for and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Added activities range from white-water-rafting to archery but for us, the riding out and relaxing was more than enough!

travelled without kids and loved it!!

My husband and myself have visited 14 guest ranches and three bars is at the top of our list. We usually visit in the fall months for adults only. This was our first summer visit with kids present and we had a great time. All the kids were well behaved and enjoyed all the activities as we did. I can't imagine why you would book a dude experience during family vacation months and then complain? The horse program is terrific. Safety first. We have stayed at numerous ranches where guests were hurt and some badly. We both thought the way Tyler runs the horse program is perfect. You are asked each morning at breakfast and then again at lunch which rides you prefer. If you are not on a trotting or lopeing ride there is a reason as all the horses are calm, walking carefully down the steep slopes and never running back to the barn. Even the 6 year old in our group was allowed to trot on her horse. All the ranches we have visited put their wranglers on the new dude in training horses. Not all horses make good dude trail horses and it is not for the guests to find this out. Horses muster up or muster out. Therefore you will always have a good safe horse at Three Bars. The location of Three Bars is beautiful with the St. Mary's river and Perry Creek running through it. Lookout and forest rides abound, go up or stay low. Never boring. The cabins and lodge are clean and roomy. Can't say that about other ranches. AND ALL THE STAFF IS OVER THE TOP FRIENDLY AND COURTEOUS TO EVERYONE. At the end of the week we guests all commented on how caring the wranglers are for us to enjoy our horse experience. My husband, being 75 didn't ride all the time but there was still plenty for him to enjoy. Fishing, golfing, shooting, the pool and hot tub, and just relaxing and enjoying the views. I wanted to go panning for gold. Myself and three other guests spent a wonderful morning dreaming of how we were going to spend all of our gold. Blake, the wrangler was great at helping us pan and finding the right places. (unfortunately we didn't need the truck Tyler offered us to haul the gold back). If you want a fun vacation where you meet new people of all ages, take in the mountain air and vistas, ride great trails, join in the evening games and eat till you are full then look no further than Three Bars. Thanks for a wonderful week. God willing and the creek don't rise we will be back!

Real Hospitality

I've just returned from a week at Three Bars. I really couldn't recommend it strongly enough - we received such a warm welcome. The food was simple and delicious - perfect fuel before, during and after a long day in the saddle. The wranglers were all excellent, full of information and tales, and very good at what they do. They also matched the exceedingly well-schooled and amazingly sure-footed trail horses with riders perfectly. After a great day of riding, the cabins were very comfortable with seemingly endless hot water to ease any aches. If you want TV (we didn't), there is one in the main lodge, but not in the cabins themselves.

Wonderful way to spend a week

Staying at Three Bars Guest and Cattle Ranch was a memorable experience in many ways thanks to the graciousness and generosity of spirit of the ranch's hosts and owners - the Beckley family. The Beckleys and their staff create an easy-going, communal atmosphere for guests. And there always seemed to be someone readily available to address any question or request I had throughout the week. Their horses (some 100 or so) are all beautiful, gentle and in great shape. Guests are matched with one horse for the week based on their riding ability. As a novice, I was glad to be paired with a kind, experienced horse who seemed to understand he had to exhibit a little extra patience with the well-meaning but skill-free amateur on his back. The wranglers, who led the many trail rides we took during the week, were equally understanding and helpful. The ranch itself is vast and breathtakingly beautiful. I don't think their Web site does it justice, but I'm told they're redesigning it. The accommodations - beautifully hewed log cabins - offer comfort, quiet and privacy when you want it. At the same time, they're situated in such a way as to offer easy opportunities to talk with neighboring guests on their porches when you prefer to do that. The meals were very good and plentiful, and the dining room in the lodge offered a relaxed, social atmosphere for adults and kids alike. While I didn't have kids with me, the children who were there the week I visited and who I got to spend some time with seemed delighted with the place as it allowed them ample room to run free, embark on lots of adventures and play with the many animals at the ranch (lots of great dogs and cats, some chickens and hens, a calf, and of course, horses as far as the eye could see). The week I was there the weather was great, but it's the kind of place I think I'd enjoy no matter what the weather. I'd highly recommend Three Bars to anyone who loves horses and would really enjoy a complete escape from their everyday lives.

Perfect Ranch

I am a long time guest of Three Bars my wife and i visit at least once a year for the past 15 years.. Having read the last review i am posting for the first time to trip advisor. I am a seasoned traveller and i do know the difference between great food and pretentious service. Part of what i like about the place is that it is friendly and that the wrangler staff eat lunch and dinner with the guests tables, the meals are buffet, which is what they tell you they are. There is no sit down plate service and meals are served at a set time. Not everyone is looking for or expecting the same thing, I can tell you what i find at the ranch, great food and great company to go along with it. If i were to pick one example meal it would be the Friday night Steak Barbeque with ranch baked beans (love those beans) and the grilled vegetables. I go to the ranch to ride, have ridden for years and i am a horse owner. The trails are varied from wondering along the rivers and creeks to climbing the mountains, the views of the rocky mountains from the ranch are beyond compare. The ranch horses do an amazing job of keeping beginners and experienced riders as safe as you can be when you are riding horses, it is a sport and with sport comes the chance of injury. The only way you make a seasoned trail horse is to ride the trails for seasons, that is what the wranglers do. The Beckley family have been in the horse and guest business for years and are good at what they do, putting dudes on horses. Not a job i would want. While i go to ride mornings and afternoons everyday, my wife rides in the mornings with me then she takes part in whatever other activity is offered for the afternoon, rafting and the trap shooting seem to be her favourite afternoons. Once in awhile we even read a book this year they added a flat screen so i can watch the morning news with my coffee. The Beckley family go out of their way to make each guest feel special and see that those little things we all think we need are looked after. The ranch facilities are top notch, well maintained and world class. The food is generous, well prepared and varied. Would not change a thing about the ranch, plan to return soon.

Nice variety of options - excellent results for all (leisure or business)

A couple of associates and I visited the ranch in hopes to talk a little business, make great memories, ride horses, fly fish and visit an area of British Columbia which we had never seen before. I feel we accomplished all of those goals and more at the Three Bars Guest Ranch. Tyler, Jenna, April, Jeff and the entire wrangler crew (including Gabe, Luke, Don, Cain, and April) were not only accommodating to our needs and requests they went a step beyond becoming people we have asked to come visit us when they are in our home areas. They sat with us during many meals discussing all kinds of topics including Australia (several of the wranglers are Aussies), fly fishing, local culture / life in the area, and obviously horses. I will plan to bring my family back to this place in the future as well. The previous poster noted items such as 2 hours rides being short and so forth but that was plenty of ride time for us and it is nothing that Three Bars was hiding from anyone that a question or two would not have covered up front. Fly fishing the St. Mary's river was great; I did both wading through the river and a guided float trip using the suggested guides from the Three Bars group. One of my associates caught a cutbow trout that was the largest the guide had seen over this and potentially many other seasons. It is a pretty good walk to get to the St. Mary's however I found it to be very enjoyable and nothing I would not do again. Another associate visited one of the four noted golf courses in the area and was pleasantly surprised with the condition and beauty of the course (Trickle Creek). The ranch has a beautiful indoor swimming pool with a outdoor hot tub to make those evenings after a ride quite soothing. The rooms were clean, quiet and provided a great ambiance for the ranch. All in all my associates and I had set high expectations of our trip and the Three Bars came through for us providing most everything we could ask for and more. Thank you Tyler and Jenna and the entire group for all your help in making it happen.

Best family vacation

My family and I loved our stay at Three Bars. From beginning to end we were well taken care of by the wranglers, staff and the Beckley family. They were all very warm, welcoming and really cared that you had a great time while at the ranch. The riding was some of the most beautiful we have ever done and the horses were used to both experienced and inexperienced riders. They also had so much more than riding available to those that didn't want to ride 24 / 7. My son especially enjoyed the wonderful fishing close by and the skeet shooting. The rafting was also a favorite for all of us. Hated to say goodbye to Tyler and everyone at Three Bars but we will definitely be back!

Something for everyone at Three Bars

The ranch is located in a beautiful part of British Columbia, just a short 4 hour drive from Spokane International. The riding is diverse and takes you to spectacular vistas, but if you aren't into riding, you won't feel left out as the range of other activities seems limitless. The river rafting is an absolute blast covering some of the most beautiful mountain vistas you'll find anywhere. The water gun fights between the rafts are an absolute hoot. Fishing opportunities abound, and if you're not too tired from the water sports, the ATV trails will put a megawatt grin on your face. Skeet shooting, target shooting, archery, volleyball, and the firetruck games (you'll just have to go see it for yourself...) round out a full week of activities on a beautifully manicured ranch. The accommodations are rustic and very comfortable. An indoor heated pool and undercover jacuzzi are a great way to unwind at the end of a long day of trail riding and activities. The kids will enjoy the petting zoo, too. The food is well repaired, plentiful and the deserts to die for, could have just eaten deserts all week. The Beckley Family makes this a welcoming place for all, and the range of guests, from Canada, the U. S. and countries around the world, and the Aussie Wranglers (!) give it an international flavor. You will feel like you're home the minute you settle into your cabin. And there is even a Tim Horton's just 10 minutes away!

Fabulous experience

The whole experience of Three Bars was wonderful for my friend and I. From start to finish, the guest services were great - very friendly and approachable. The cabins were clean and comfortable. The horses and riding were the highpoint of our stay. The last full day ride with loping was such fun. As English riders, we really enjoyed the Western riding experience. The scenery is unbelievable. The community atmosphere amongst the guests is a really nice aspect of one's stay at Three Bars. It was a great way to get to know people from other parts of the world. I'll certainly be back and hope to bring others with me!

Fantastic week at the ranch

We have been on various riding vacations and I must say the staff at Three Bars is the BEST we have ever encountered. We arrived in early June, at the start of the season and were among only 5 other guests. The wranglers were outstanding and catered to guests above what was expected. Rooms were very quiet since we were early in the season and the only early morning sounds were birds chirping and an occasional donkey " hee haw ". We were treated like family and I really hated to leave at the end of the week. Horses were great and area was beautiful. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to get away from city hassles.

It was a wonderful family vacation

This ranch deserves all the 5 star ratings it is receiving. We had a wonderful time and felt we received great value for our money. The horses were chosen to our riding ability, and as absolute beginners, our horses were calm and easy to control (all the other horses seemed calm and easy too). The wranglers who took us out, as a small family group, each day were very conscious of our riding ability and made sure we felt safe and comfortable. I was concerned our horses would run for home at the end of the ride, but they were very controlled and walk calmly back to the corral. We went from never riding a horse to lopping in one week, and all felt confident and comfortable on our horses at all times. The surrounding area that you ride through is beautiful and we saw deer, squirrels and eagles. There is a good choice of afternoon activities, if you choose not to ride, and you are able to have space and time to be a family as well as interact with the other guests. The food was not gourmet, but was of good quality and we have no complaints. The rooms were a good size and there was plenty of space at the main ranch to have some quiet time. Our boys rate this as one of their favourite family holidays and I would too.

Three Bars Ranch

My husband and I only spent 2 days at the ranch but will be going back for a week. The staff were wonderful and the ranch was so relaxing and we met some great people. The cabins were cosy and spacious and the food was good. You can do as much or as little as you like.

Three Bars - four great trips

My two daughters and I have had the great pleasure of visiting 3 Bars on four great occasions. Each was unique, meeting new people and having great rides in the beautiful B. C. countryside. And each time was like returning for a reunion, April and her wonderful family and staff made us fell so much at home. The food is great, activities are always available. Just sitting relaxing in the quiet serenity of a Canadian summers day is about as close to heaven as you can get. Kristin, Kimmy and I hope to return together, and the girls talk about rounding up some of their pals for a trip on their own. Thanks!
