Small Distillery
Located inn the eastern tip of the island this small distillery is a quick stop on your island tour. When we arrived we did not have a chance to tour the production areas, but they did offer samples of all they produced. Including there version of Moonshine…. tasted interesting. I'd your in the area its worth a stop, but not to make a day trip out of this.
Not worth the drive!
I really wanted to love this place. I've heard about their " shine ", but it was very disappointing. I do know there is a second PEI distillery with a moonshine that has won awards, I have high hopes it is better. I should mention, call before you show up. Their hours on the website are not correct, this was my second time trying to visit, shop was closed during " open hours ". Save yourself the drive.
World class quality, Canadian made spirits, easy online visiting and ordering
Online visit due to Covid. How do they do this? Really a hidden gem. Top quality products, smooth, amazing taste first. Extremely efficient and easy online ordering, and recently, free shipping within Canada, and Canadian made. (I really have no idea how they manage to do free shipping - really makes many of their products extremely competitive to BC Liquor) I also love that I'm buying Canadian quality product. Discovered them from the CBC show Still Standing. Have been ordering their spirits for a couple years now and have never been disappointed. Have also used their online ordering system to send as gifts to friends around Canada. Myriad View. Hope you stay small and don't sell out to some mega corporation, please and thank you! PS My favourites: Straight shine of course, gin, whiskey, brandy, pastis, rum.
ONLINE VISIT to Myriad View Distilleries web site
My ONLINE VISIT to Myriad View Distillery's web site. Recently learned of this place while watching a rebroadcast 2015 edition of Jonny Harris's CBC Show STILL STANDING. Then promptly looked up the business on Trip Advisor. Read the excellent reviews with my focus on the shine products. Sent a number of emails with staff at Myriad View and got my questions answered. Promptly ordered 3 different products (just had to try their Pistas, as well as their award SIP winning Strait Shine). Our last visit to PEI was in 1982 and when we are back, we will visit this business! Their online web / email service was the best I have experienced from a business. Their unique legal moonshine products deserve a try for sure as well as their SIP awarded ones. So if you can't make a physical visit, can't take the tour nor sip the samples, try their eService, web and product shipping as a very good viable substitute to do now.
Very friendly
Really nice explanation of their spirits and processes. Free tastings and all products available for purchase.
Moonshine Distillery? You gotta stop [in!
As the only guy traveling with my wife and two other women, I wasn't sure that they would be interested in stopping in. We did. And they thought our 1 / 2 hour there was a highpoint of our week on the east end of PEI! The young woman behind the counter had us sample the moonshine and other liquors they produce. The tour is showing you the still and explaining the distillation which is through a door right behind the counter. The staff are warm, welcoming and know all about the processes in detail. We bough bottles of Strait Shine and their rum as well. A visit is relatively quick but very memorable!
Quick free and informative personal tour
The tours are not formal - when we asked about a tour the lady behind the counter simply passed her duties onto another staff member and walked us into the distillery area and described the process. It would have been better if they were actually running the still at the time but it was still informative. We found out about this place online and made it a point of seeking it out while were in the general neighbourhood. Note that our Garmin GPS couldn't find the place by name and we had to enter the street address to get close and then drive on a few hundred meters more. The young lady who took care of us was informative and interesting. We also got to try a number of their spirits and we purchased a few to take home. If you're in the neighbourhood, it is worth a quick visit.
Distillerie artisanale excellent Gin !
Very cool!
A little place off the beaten path, we were very happy to find and visit this place when we were in PEI. Victoria was behind the desk and told us all about each type of spirit (we were surprised at how many types of spirits this little place made!) and then brought us into the back to show us the distilling process. A little family owned place (2 families actually) that sells only in PEI, it was nice to be able to taste and bring home something a little different.
Excellent local distillery
Beware of the Lightening - this makes other moonshine I have sampled pale by comparison. Very helpful staff in a beautiful setting.
Make me shine!
Oh what a treat! Straight to the point, great staff and quality hooch! Had to unhook my towed vehicle in their parking lot to turn around (no pull through). Bought a few bottles but alas, they evaporated (once we opened them the shine mysteriously disappeared lol!)
Visit the home of Island Moonshine!
A fun intermission in our travels - it's an independent distillery overlooking the Northumberland Strait on Route 2 Rollo Bay. Since I knew I'd have to drive, I didn't try much, but did enjoy the Strait Rum, Strait Brandy and the licorice flavored Strait Pastis. I had half of the half samplers and would have purchased the Rum except my husband wanted the Strait Vodka. The woman doing the small tour was highly knowledgeable about the making of these artisan spirits and made the stop more interesting than expected.
Wonderful find!
We were admiring the gorgeous view and almost missed the sign. Stopped in without a tour booked, and Victoria and Sheila took us in on a tour like they'd been waiting all day for us to show up. So welcoming, very knowledgeable! Explained the processes for the different liquors, and allowed us some free samples (and took some pics for us too! The good feelings we left with were more to do with the interactions than the little samples, which were also pretty tasty!
Worth the Stop
If you only stop for the view, it is worth it. The distillery is on a hill overlooking the ocean. The selection of spirits was quite surprising and there were free samples of everything. Try to avoid being the DD if you visit. The gin was incredible and by far my favourite.
A worthwhile stop
Such a pretty place to visit. Attractive setting. The lady who was working there could not have been more helpful and pleasant. We enjoyed talking to her and learning about the spirits produced. My husband bought the whisky and I wish we had bought some of their brandy too. Sorry to hear you cannot buy these products off the island.
Unique spirits, beautiful view (s)
Welcome atmosphere, wide variety of spirits. I was the driver so I heeded the comments of my companions, and as you can expect, people take spirits differently. Handsome kettles in their facility.
A must see attraction
Very nice place to visit and try some free samples of their shine, brandy and whiskey. They also have rum and gin. Very nice young lady and she was very informative. Took the free tour they offered which was very informative. Bought some gifts for family!
Super distillerie!
Dommage!
Perfect Time to Shine
Looking for something completely different. Visit and tour the Myriad View Artisan Distillery. Ample parking on site, Well layed out tasting area and bottles on display for sale. Variety of spirits available from gin to brandy. Small operation and arrived just in time to see Moonshine being distilled. Also watched the bottling process. No automation here, all done by hand. Tours available in English and French. Well worth a visit, won't be disappointed.
Friendly Distillery
ou can pick up moonshine and lightning from this distillery. They have also started making their own gin, brandy, and rum. They will also give you a sample to taste. We picked some up for gifts. We got to see the back room of the distillery. The lady working was really nice, helpful and informative. They only distribute in PEI.
Fun spot
Free tastings and friendly service. Gave us an overview of their process and answered all our questions. We enjoyed a nice walk around the grounds as well. Worth the stop and great souvenir to take home.
Interesting find with great staff!
We didn't know what to expect. Lovely and friendly staff to greet you. We did a quick your of the distillery with an explaination of how it works. Most interesting! Tour and tastings rare FREE! I am always looking for different and what I can't get at home. We tried the Pastis which tastes like licorice and is made from anise. Bought it! They have moonshine - 2 strengths - 73% proof and a more diluted version. They also had brandy, rum and I believe whiskey. Loved this place! If I lived in the island this would be my new favourite place.
Exceptional!
Glad we made the time to stop by. The woman who was working was incredibly friendly, took time to chat and answer questions, and gave us a little tour of the distillery. Best part was that we never felt like she was rushing us or pushing us to buy anything. The gin is exceptional! We left with a bottle of gin and bottles of both of the moonshines. If you are in the Rollo Bay area, and you like trying unique spirits, make sure you stop here!
Lovely spot
Was looking forward to checking out this distillery, and it did not disappoint. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The kids with us really enjoyed the distilling tour.
This was a good one!
We visited a number of distilleries during our road trip through the Maritimes. This one was the best. The staff was very knowledgeable and and enthusiastic and gave us a brief tour - a very small place. We left with a bottle of Pastis - they are the only ones in the area to make this. Unfortunately, they did not offer tastes of this one. We came home with a bottle - not the best - it stay clear when mixed with water - but still good and a pleasant memory of our trip. Definitely worth a stop!
Interesting and fun place to stop
We had a really interesting tour by the two knowledgeable employees. It was great seeing a still operating up close. We sampled a few of their products and walked out with 4 bottles! The vodka in particular was excellent. We were looking for rainy day activities today and this one was perfect.
Your time to " Shine "
My second trip to this distillery. We enjoyed a sample and made some purchases. The staff are very knowledgeable. Great products.
Stop in!!
Stopped in on our travels and glad we did. The young woman who took us on a tour of the distillery facilities which are quite small was very informative and we tasted some of the liquor offered. We enjoyed the products and ended up returning to purchase another bottle to take home. Not more than half an hour of your time to taste a quality PEI product.
Love the pastis!
Neat place to visit. We did a little tour a few years ago and enjoyed that. I enjoy the pastis here. I do wish they would provide a little larger tasting of their products because we found the tasting was so small (just one sip), we couldn't decide if we liked the taste or not. Maybe they would give more if we asked but we didn't feel comfortable asking (didn't want to appear to be just looking for something for free). It's too bad, because we found the taste wasn't enough to determine if we liked it or not so we just decided not to buy it. I had the pastis before so I bought that without tasting.
Interesting Stop for Some
Although the distillery isn't for everyone, it is a beautiful spot overlooking the Souris bay, especially with the grape vines on the hill. The young lady at the desk was very knowledgable and gave us a great tour, explaining the history and how the massive still they have works. My husband has made wine for years and found it very interesting to see how moonshine and the hard liquors are made there. Tried a couple sips and ended up leaving with a bottle of " Lightning " because, well, where else can you buy moonshine?!?!
Terrfic Little Jem
Popped in here after a long day.... I love the fact you can get samples before you buy so you know what you are getting. They have an excellent product line and the staff is very friendly.
Good spirits and good stories
Our host, Ken gave us a great tour with lots of stories of moonshine history. We then had a chance to taste their products. They are very well done. We wish them well with this new venture.
Worthy Place To Visit for Moonshine, Rum, Brandy, Vodka, Gin, etc
Highly recommend stopping in and taking the short free tour (we did in the early afternoon), and having a few samples of the all natural selection of booze but make sure the driver only has one sample... the potency ranges from 40 to 75 proof! The establishment is immaculately clean, the young lady providing the tour and information was a sweetheart - her knowledge and personality was refreshing. I sampled the Brandy, the Pastis, the Moonshine and the Lightening. I loved the Brandy's smoothness and loved the ever so slightly sweet licorice flavor of the Pastis. Hubby had me try Lightening but it didn't appeal to my taste buds as much as to his! We purchased a couple of bottles.... hmmmm which ones. lol This is a very small distillery but their supply is ample and they do have some of their spirits available in the liquor stores in Charlottetown. We were just out taking in the scenery and happened to stop in at the local Tourist Information centre and picked up some info about wineries and distilleries in the area. Well after our visit here at Myriad Distillery, there was no need to check out anywhere else. Terrific place to check out and yes, yes, yes make a purchase! So are you of legal drinking age? Yes, you say? Then you will not be disappointed if you stop in here! A quaint business with a personable and informative sales person and high quality spirits!
Belle surprise :-)
Nice Visit, lovely Hostess
For a quick stop in and tour, stop here for sure, its a Free Tour and tasting (which it should be) and the liquor is good, so we bought a bottle. Good tour of the facilities, and lovely hostess.
Nice stop
We stopped here on a driving tour of the Eastern side of the island. We tried a few samples and they have some nice products. The associate working was very friendly.
Moonshine!
Tiny tour of the distillery was very interesting. Then the awesome experience of tasting moonshine =). Bring a friend to drive you back if you are as susceptible to alcohol as I am....
Interesting
what you can do in a small space with a German still and some grain mash. The strongest product, a 150 proof moonshine, will knock you upalongside; the gins, rums and whiskeys are more manageable and the regular moonshine sells itself. Unique, fun.
Delightfully Surprised
This was our first experience with distilled whiskey and moonshine.. I found it to be very educational and I also enjoyed the owner taking the time to explain the various spirits to me. This charming Distillery was a joy to visit and learn about the making of " Shine ". I would recommend The Myriad View Artisan Distillery a must stop on your tour of PEI.
Legal Moonshine!
Located off TC2 (Trans Canada 2), Myriad View is a small distillery producing legal island moonshine, and a very smooth (my opinion) " strait " whiskey. The grounds are small but have a nice view of Rollo Bay. Tasting is offered for a modest donation / fee, and sometimes a good chat with the staff if there is no crowd may get you the tasting gratis. We have been stopping in every summer for the last 3 years to take a few bottles back home after vacation. The smaller bottles make great gifts for friends back home who enjoy a good distilled liquor. Makes for a nice stop if you are heading to or from the East Cape area, or as a short trip out of Charlottetown.
