Stein's bakery is one of the oldest bakeries in North Texas. Throughout the years one thing has stayed the same and that is the dedication to using only quality ingredients with delicious results. Even the recipes and formulas have remained virtually unchanged, which gives the delicate richness that only the 1940's can give. The overall setup of the bakery has remained the same as well, and most everything is made from scratch.

Quality slipping
The baked goods used to be some of the best around. Now the items have a slight off odor and are not as light as they used to be.

Ok so I am going to make this one short and sweet. I finally found the entrance and went in looking for baklava, cannoli and banana nut bread, It was ore of a mexican baker I guess. All they had was banana nut bread. I bought it. After getting home later that night I grabbed a small glass of cold milk. Anxious to enjoy a piece of the bread. I took a bite and after drinking up that small glass of milk I realized that was the driest bread i have ever tasted. NOPE not good, Never will go back.

Cupcakes for Party
This year, I ordered cupcakes from Stein's Bakery for my 60th Birthday Sparkle Party. I asked for each to have a rose, and was told each cupcake would cost $1.15. I couldn't believe the price. " Are these miniature cupcakes? ", I asked. They were absolutely beautiful and were a huge hit. Pictures don't do them justice, but I don't have any left to photograph today for the review!
Petit Four Heaven
Stein's has the best petit fours, hands down. I have tried others but keeping returning to Stein's for them. Moist, flavorful and decorated just like I ordered!
Yummy petit fours and cheese straws
I stopped by right when it opened and there were not a lot of pastry choices. There were lots of cookies ready but no many cakes or other goodies out. I ended up getting one of the four petit fours they had and a bag of cheese straws. Both were excellent. I will say if you want to get a discount on day old items, you should come early. The day old shelf was pretty full of coffee cakes and cakes.
Best petit fours in Dallas
I ordered two dozen petit fours for a bridal shower last weekend, and they were absolutely perfect. Not only were they beautiful, but they tasted incredible. They were a hit at the shower!

Stein's is a Dallas icon!! EVERYTHING is delicious but the Petit Fours are a bite of heaven!! A classic at bridal and baby showers for years. Stein's will decorate for Any occasion and they are as beautiful as they are D E L I C I O U S!!!

If you LOVE # pastries then you must come here. Large homemade eclairs, cakes, creme puffs, petifores and more! Average price of pastries are 1.40 to 1.90. 10 dollar savings certificate found on restaurant.com. ENJOY!
Not the best birthday cake
Our birthday cake looked fantastic, but the cake itself just wasn't very good. Dry and somewhat like cardboard. Others found the whole thing too sweet.
Great Eclairs and Cream Cups!
Wonderful place for eclairs, cream cups, muffins and cakes. All homemade and made fresh daily. Locally known and always busy. If you are in the area or visiting dallas, you must come here to try it. You won't regret it. They tend to run out of eclairs so go early.
Good place to get a sweet tooth filled
Don't go there hungry unless you bring friends to help carry all the goodies to your car. You do need to go there early because they do sell out of their best items early most days. We like all their pan bread / cakes. They do make custom items but usualy have a good choice of Birthday cakes and other special occassion cakes.
Pies and Cheese Pockets
I have never ordered a cake or tried their cookies or breads but their pies and cheese pockets are a sure thing. I thought their cheese straws tasted too much like the shortening they used in the dough. Steins has been around for many, many years and I can attest that their cheese pockets have not gone downhill over the years. Everything is reasonably priced, too. Because of copyright laws they can no longer do specialty cakes with licensed cartoon figures on them.
We ordered a custom cake, and it was very nice
I had a party for 35 people and requested a cake in the shape of a violin. I told them it was important that the fondant actually look like wood. They did an excellent job. Not only was the wood well done, but they came up with silvery strings and even made a bow out of fondant to lie next to the cake. They also decorated the cake board with chocolate music notes and treble clefs. It was charming. As for the cake quality, we chose a lemon cake and a chocolate amaretto icing. The cake was moist, and the icing suited it beautifully. Everyone enjoyed the cake very much. The price seemed quite reasonable, also.
Outstanding Local Bakery
Continuously operated since the 1940's, it is a Dallas institution. Located in a shopping center at LBJ (I-635) and Preston Road (SW Corner). From cookies, breads, pastries to cakes, everything is delicious. the Petit Fours are a must for any bridal, wedding or baby shower. The cakes come in all sizes and shapes. The cheese straws are addictive. If you need a specialty item, calling ahead is the best. Open Monday - Saturday 7:30 am to 5:30 pm.

Stein's excels in any cake (or petite four or cupcake) that requires decoration. Whether you want a sheet cake with a little amusement park on the top or a baby shower cake with a blue wardrobe, they can do it! And if you're giving a wedding shower, the petite fours are mandatory for Dallas-ites who are " in the know. " Note: it's all about the decoration since the cake itself can be a bit dry at times. Our daughter (now a mother herself) has had a Stein's cake for every birthday of her life. She always wants a cake with as many big icing roses (all colors!) that they can fit on. And, of course, she likes her name written as big as possible (with little hearts!). Until recently, Steins only took cash. Now they do take credit card. Calling ahead for a custom request is smart, though they are pretty good at getting something good together if you're a walk-in. Prices are quite reasonable considering the amount of labor they put into a custom piece.

A must stop
Stein's Bakery is the very best bakery I have ever visited. Everything is wonderful; however, the cheese pockets are an absolute must to try. My wife raved about these 30 years ago when we lived in Dallas and I never understood her enthusiasm for them, until I tried them. Unchanged after 30 years they are still great, sweet cream cheese in a Danish pastry, a but of white icing, etc. I stop by every chance I get and will drive 30 miles out of the way just to bring some home. Try it, you will definitely return. By the way, the cookies, cakes and other pastries are wonderful as well!
Our Christmas Tradition
For more years than I can remember, we have had Stein's coffee cakes for Christmas morning breakfast. I always call ahead and they have them fresh and ready for me when I arrive. They are so delicious and I can't imagine Christmas morning without them.
One of the few things I miss @ Dallas
After I moved East from Dallas I missed five things: time & temperature signs, Jason's Deli, SW Airlines, roads with wide shoulders & Stein's Bakery. Now my car tells me the temperature, Jason's Deli is in the county next door and SW flies from IAD & BWI. But I still don't have roads with a shoulder wide enough to ride a bicycle on in Virginia or Stein's. This is why every time I visit Dallas I take snap-and-seal containers and fill with Stein's peanut butter cookies, icebox cookies, Danish and all the rest. Then I prepare to fight any nosey TSA drone that wants to test my baked goods for explosives. You can't take the shoulders home with you, but you can take the Stein's and I recommend you do so.

If you want something special for a birthday cake, this is the place to go. They let you order the cake to fit your tastes, and can decorate it how you want. Best part is it tastes as good as it looks.
To those who love to complain
Yes i first of all want to say to the lady who picked up the two cakes and said it was dirthy the place thats the most ridicioulus thing i have ever heard in my life. Why didnt you speak with the manager in charge at the time instead of coming here and writing ugly messages about places. Was it that hard really?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Anyways i Love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the chocolate chip cookies and the honey pecan danish and also i love their choc cakes yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :))))) IF anyone has to complain why; dont you speak with the manager im sure they will be happy to help you out more than ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very Dirty Bakery
I am a native Dallasite and have loved Steins Bakery for years. A birthday cake from there was always a super special treat that everyone loved and craved. Yesterday I picked up two cakes and was shocked at the condition of the bakery. IT WAS FILTHY! The baked goods in the cases- cookies and sweetrolls - looked stale. The case counter tops were greasy and covered with crumbs. There was an empty 'free sample' cake dome that was covered with a dirty film, and a box lid with the word 'trash' sitting next to it. I started looking closer, and the floor was filthy with ground in dirt along the edges of the carpet runner. The cashier / party goods area was just as bad. The greeting cards had not been restocked or maintained and no care or upkeep had been given to the party goods. One of my cake boxes had greasy crumbs stuck to the bottom of the box. Having said all of this, the cakes look like they are supposed to, but I'm wary of eating them now. If the storefront is rundown and dirty, why would I believe the bakery wouldn't also be dirty and neglected. I'm sending a copy of this review to the Dallas Health Department. So sad and unhappy this has happened to Steins. Buyer beware.

Don't waste your money
I recently ordered a German chocolate cake for a birthday and was extremely disappointed. It was hard to choke down even one piece of this cake. The cake was tasteless, dry and crumbly and I can't even describe the thick sugar that they put on top and called frosting. I spent $20 to try one piece and throw the rest in the trash. I hope at least the rodents in the trash had some of it so my money wasn't completely wasted.

Stein's has been around since I was a child and I always enjoyed getting cookies there. They make hot cross buns at Eastertime, too. Cakes are truly wonderful.
