About Sláinte Session
The Slainte Session continues the Dempsey's Irish Traditional Music Session legacy every Tuesday night. It is NYC's Longest Running Open Session (that does not mean it is a " beginner's " session by the way; it simply means ALL are welcome). It is as much about building a community as it is about anything else. This session continues in the lineage of The Eagle Tavern, The Gloccamora, and then Dempsey's on to, now, Slainte. We are talking about a time span there of over thirty years. As the Dempsey's / Slainte piece of that closes in on a quarter century, we have seen other sessions come and go, some claiming to be unique in what they do, while this session has been doing it for a very long time. In April 2016, the session was relocated around the corner to Tom O'Bryne's other pub, Slainte, at 304 Bowery, Manhattan. We have a special guest artist, usually every other week, to lead the session. This has been an impressive list so far - Linda Hickman, Patrick Mangan, John Redmond, Tony DeMarco, Caitlin Warbelow, Brian Conway, Pio Ryan, Rose Flanagan, Donie Ryan, Peter Rufli, Cleek Schrey, Heather Bixler, Joey Mullen, Liz Hanley, Tom Dunne, Matt Mancuso, Martin O'Connell, Dan Gurney, Caitlin Finley, Seagda Coyle and many more.
