Free Walking Tour Rijeka
Free walking tour with Sanjin is a must in Rijeka. History, culture, and inside info walking around the city. You will hear about the relation of the city with Titanic, " The Sound of Music ", and even Al Capone. The history of the city is amazing and thanks to the tour you'll find many things to do and to see after it. I strongly recommend the tour as the first thing to do in Rijeka!
Rijeka hrůza hrůz
Rijeka je nejošklivější město které jsme viděli. Všude odpadky, výkaly a smrad moči. Domy zničené a pomalované grafity.
Riblji restoran
Izvanredan riblji restoran. U vitrini biras sam ribu koju zelis. Riblja juha je bila vise nego izvanredna. A takodje i riblja plata. Serviraju cak i tople domace kolace.
Dentisti e svaghi
Interesting Tour!
We had a great day exploring the area around Rijeka with Eva from Rijeka Trips. Eva was sweet and personable, flexible with our itinerary, and asked for input when we needed to change our plans due to traffic caused by a national holiday. Eva had to adjust the itinerary but did it with ease, and still got us back to our cruise ship on time. We started our day by going to the medieval village of Hum, which was fascinating. We then headed to Motovun, an old, walled town which was also very interesting. Eva had great suggestions on what to do there, and the best way to get up the hill. We stopped at a shop for some truffle tasting, as well as well as some olive oil tasting. It was great hearing about the truffle industry, especially after having just passed the forest where they grow. Next, was a visit to a winery where we had wine tasting, as well as more olive oil tasting, and a light snack of bread, cheeses and meats. We had some stops that offered beautiful views of the valley, then headed to Optija, a nice beach town, where we admired the architecture and stopped for a refreshment. She was very knowledgeable about the area, and we had a great day.
A great day tour
We came by ship and reserved goran gaco to drive us around. The tour was very could he is a very good driver and knows the area. Highly recomend him. his mail is: gachogg@gmail.com
Hieno tie
Kannattaa mennä rantatietä (pieniä teitä) Rijekaan Kroatiassa, sillä maisemat ovat huikeita. Silmänruokaa riittää ja tiet kunnossa.
Excellent walking tour of Rijeka (Fiume) with Ivan Olenjuk of rijekatrips. con
We had a brilliant four-hour walking tour of the historic town of Rijeka (Fiume) - now in Croatia but in the past century a city in Hungary, a free city state, a city of Italy and of Yugoslavia. The architecture, seafront, Roman and medieval remains, and living city are all brought to life. We had Ivan Olenjuk as our personal guide - well-informed, interesting, entertaining, incredibly nice and speaking excellent English. Contact rijekatrips.com and book in advance if possible. Highly recommended.
One night in Rijeka
I escaped one night in Rijeka and i went to do a little sight seeing. The place looks great especialy at night, you have a lot of restaurants, bars, shops, plenty places to go to, i went on a sunday and found allmost all shops closed, but i still sow some beautifull places! If you have the time, enjoy at least one night in Rijeka!
A fascinating insight
This was our first port of call in Croatia on a cruise. While it is not the prettiest of towns (compared to the likes of Korcula & Sibenik) we had a fabulous walking tour with our excellent guide Dragica. She is an architect by profession and had great enthusiasm for her city and it's history. The weather was unfortunately atrocious (wind & rain) but we still had a great tour with some fascinating insights (make sure you go UPSTAIRS in the fish market for an amazing overview of the stalls!) Thankyou so much.
Fascinating day around Rijeka with Rijeka Trips and guide Dragica
Walking around deck 7 to take photos, I found that town had a great welcome going for Prinsendam. A band and baton twirlers were greeting the ship. There were also locals dressed in traditional dress offering complimentary samples of the local beverage and candy of choice. Our tour group of seven met on time at 8:15 in the Ocean Bar. We left the ship and paused to obtain maps and a few partook of the samples. We met our guide, Dragica, from Rijekatrips. Off we went in the van for a short ride to the city center to begin our walking tour of the old city. The clock tower at the Church of the assumption of the blessed Virgin Mary leans more than Pisa. In fact, standard under the side that is leaning it a bit unnerving. We saw the roman ruins that have been unearthed and the old roman gateway. We also saw the statue to the milkmaids who used to transport milk from the hills to the city on their backs every day. We toured the city market, a bustling place where we sampled a local chocolate donut and Apple Strudel. Dragica showed us the upstairs of the fish market where we had a bird's eye view over the entire place - fantastic. We took a coffee break after 90 minutes of walking at the long pier that extends 1.5 KM into the harbor. After our break we were back in the van to ride up the hill to the Trsat Castle. With the van, this was easy to access and the 360 degree views from the top of the castle on this flawless day were stunning. From the Castle we walked to the nearby St. Vitus Cathedral. Here we viewed the church and saw the outside of the monastery and convent. Pilgrims climb to the cathedral on over 500 steps from the town on certain holy days. From here we were back in the van to the seaside town of Opatija. Opatija was the first seaside 'resort' began in the late 1800's in all of old Yugoslavia. The seaside park and the waterfront walkways are very pretty to see. Folks were in the water swimming and others sunning on the mostly concreate 'beach.' We saw the first church of the area and then began looking for a spot for a light lunch. We found a place and enjoyed a light Croatian lunch. Next we were back in the van to return to Rijeka and one last stop at a small handicraft market near the old town entrance. Here a number of us made purchases of hand-made local items. We returned to the ship, dropped off just steps from the gangway, at 4:10 for our 4:30 all-aboard. I noticed at least two ship's tour buses that arrived back shortly after 4:30; guess they went some distance away.
Rijeka
Rijeka
Fascinating day in Rijeka - the road less touristed
Rijeka is off the main tourist trail but a few hours with Ema, from rijekatrips, brought it alive for us. We booked a private tour, not expensive, based around my husband's interest in military history and the old torpedo factory there. It has been one of the highlights of our holiday for him, and very enjoyable even for a non-enthusiast like me. We visited the derelict but fascinating old torpedo factory, and then the installation of an upcoming torpedo exhibition at the museum. Later we walked through the woods to look at the old hydro powerhouse, sugar factory, paper mills, etc. all at our own pace with Ema, a really obliging and well informed guide. This particular tour will not appeal to everyone, but it was certainly a way of getting 'under the skin' of the town for us. We organised the schedule online in advance with Ivan, everything ran like clockwork, and the visit was then fine tuned to our interests as we went along. I would highly recommend rijekatours to anyone looking for a personalised exploration of this area.
Beautiful city And future capital of culture
An excellent vibration in city. Great places to eat and drink. Amazing Trsat castle. True is that this is a port and little bit confusing with traffic. All potentials not developed yet, but definitely will not miss upcoming opportunities. People are great in Rijeka. No problem to fill like at home:)
Rijeka, a port town with not much to offer
Rijeka is the biggest port town in Croatia, and apart for a few nice churches three is not much to see here. The port is nice and large if you like those kind of things. Much of the town has a real stamp of the old Yugoslavia, but also of the Italian rule, which was very long in the city.
Very Nice City
After my wife and I tried to book a stay in Split and Dubrovnik and noticed the ridiculous prices, we decided to take our chances with Rijeka. This was a wonderful surprise, for the Rijeka city center was a very nice place to visit, and it sits right next to the Adriatic Sea. If you want to shop, enjoy food and drinks, or just relax at the nearby beaches, you can't go wrong with this location. Look for rooms at Botel Marina, which I wrote about in a separate review. It's possible to book a trip to Italy, but you have to go to Opatija first. Fortunately, it's easy to get there with a city bus. Once you find the main bus terminal that's not too far from Botel Marina, go to the bus stop that's around the corner and take bus # 32. That will take you to Opatija in about 30 minutes. You'll need a two-way ticket (locals call them return tickets) for zone 3, and during our visit it was 52 kunas for two (about 7 Euro) if you get them at a tobacco shop or a Tisat (kiosk). They're more expensive if you buy tickets from the bus driver. Tip: if you want to go to Italy, try Lineaverde first in Opatija. After another agency screwed up our trip when their bus company overbooked and had a system crash, causing us to wait over four hours at a bus stop before we knew what happened, Lineaverde came through with a trip to the Plitvice Lakes, which we recommend. It's a pity we didn't go to them first, for they also had trips to Italy. Overall, Rijeka was a wonderful stay for us. If you're not into the summer heat, stay clear of the summer. We were there in August and temps rose upwards to 37 Celsius.
Rijeka Trips - Cooking Class - Once in a lifetime experience
We met our guide Ivan in an easy central location and spent an hour or so wondering the fish, meat, dairy and fresh produce markets. We learnt all about the foods which are special to the region, and how to identify fresh fish. Ivan was extremely knowledgeable and easy-going. We then went to a nice restaurant that was closed at the time. With the chef from the restaurant, we helped to create an absolute banquet of traditional Croatian meals with the ingredients purchased at the market. Being in a real kitchen was a great experience, and the food was to die for. Our trip concluded with us enjoying all of the 6+ dishes that we helped make, and a complimentary drink in the beautiful restaurant garden. Ivan our tour guide was even so generous to drop us home which is 30minutes out of the city. The tour cost 60 Euro each, and it was only the two of us, my partner and I. This was unbelievable good value (especially since it takes 5 hours and you get 6 gourmet platters of food to eat too!). We thought this would cost 3-4 times more in our home country.
Walking tours of the history of Rijeka
After leaving Dubrovsnik, I rented an car and spent a week in Rijeka, using it as a hub to explore northern Croatia. The reviews of Rijeka describe a run down former industrial city, but I found a nice, inexpensive place beside a long pedestrian plaza and enjoyed the atmosphere and great food in the local restaurants. The new freeways enabled me to quickly go anywhere in northern Croatia. I think one could even drive to Venice for the day. However rather than just see buildings, I try to meet local people and learn about the places I visit, and walking tours are a great way to do this. All around the downtown area are buildings that indicate that Rijeka was an important industrial city. I was interested in the history of the city, so my host recommended I connect with Rijeka Trips, a new walking tour company and so I booked a tour of the city's industrial history. I met my guide Ivana outside the Hotel Continental, one of the city's historic old hotels. She is among a group trying to 'rescue the city's history' before it is gone. The tours are both a way to share the history with visitors, and build awareness among the civic leaders of the need to preserve their history. As we walked together through the remnants of impressive industrial buildings, I learned about the early industrial history, the growth of factories such as paper mills, the birthplace of Nikola Tesla, development of the technological skill that created the invention of the torpedo, the post war economy and the decline of these factories in the last few decades. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Ivana, and it was not just about history of buildings, I learned about local attitudes and politics, the challenges of the area and their hopes for the future. The tour gave me an insight into the city and its people that made my visit to all of Croatia more meaningful.
