Tradition just outside the castle
Conveniently located just outside the castle. Parking is available too. Traditional food fresh and tasty Owner and waiters extremely friendly Highly recommended !

Nettes Lokal außerhalb der Touristen Hotspots
Ich habe hier zu Mittag einen Salat gegessen. Die Portion war riesig, der Salat sehr gut und die Mitarbeiter extrem nett und bemüht. Zum Abschied gab's einen Raki aufs Haus. Ich kann sehr empfehlen hier einzukehren wenn am zur Ali Pasha Brücke oder zurück ist.

Very long wait to get served. Staff seemed very disinterested
We waited and waited and waited. Finally we ordered. I really don't understand how this place is rated five stars on TA. The food was average at best. About the same as any other restaurant of this type in Albania. In the end we did have a nice young man serve us and we had a complementary dessert cake and raki. But he long wait and questionable cleanliness spoiled our experience.

Superb food, taste sensations, lovely hosts and great waiting staff. I loved the Musaka and the stuffed eggplant - best in Albania yet - the salad was ginormous and so so fresh - the homemade mountain tea and raki were delightful.

Alors quoi dire... les notes sont parfois trompeuses... Nourriture très bof, sèche... Vin blanc tiède... Pas de glaçons en stock... Aucun intérêt...
Io vi giuro che non capisco le 5 stelle di media!
Dico sul serio. 5 stelle sulla base di cosa??? Servizio: inesistente.. ordiniamo da bere e dopo mezz'ora arriva solo una cosa di ciò che avevamo ordinato. Richiedo. Poi arrivano i piatti, che si accumulano senza che quelli vuoti venissero tolti (ma siete seri? Tra un po' mi mettevano sulle ginocchia le cose). Pulizia: mmmmm…. Bicchieri non puliti, per non parlare di chi va in bagno e non si lava le mani (lavandino esterno). Cibo nella media, sicuramente c'è veramente di meglio!
Pessima cucina
L'intenzione era quella di pranzare in questo posto, invogliati dalla foto dei piatti, ma principalmente delle recensioni positive. Peccato che si sia rivelato un vero flop. Accolti con insistenza affinché scegliessimo il suo ristorante da un tizio, forse il proprietario, dal modo di fare tamarro e sbarazzino. Infatti non perdeva occasione poi in seguito per accendere e spegnere sigarette di continuo. Detto questo, ci siamo seduti, un ragazzino è arrivato per la prenotazione, da quel momento dopo più di un'ora non avevamo ricevuto nemmeno l'acqua. Davvero vergognosi. Nonostante questo, il proprietario, il tipo rozzo di prima continuava ad accogliere clienti più che poteva, anzi, andava a prenderli per strada. A tenere bada ai tavoli c'era anche un uomo anziano, il quale avvicinatosi per spegnere una sorta di stufa vicino a noi ci ha omaggiato di un fetore di sudore assurdo. Davvero vergognosi. Ad un certo punto, visibilmente impacciati arrivano altri due ragazzini a servire i tavoli, i quali hanno in più tavoli sbagliato i piatti. In tutto questo, superata l'ora di attesa, abbiamo pagato le bibite e siamo andati via senza mangiare. Assolutamente sconsigliato. Dimenticavo, posate luride di mangiare precedente, visibilmente mal lavati. Cambiate lavoro, non fa per voi.
Excellent restaurant for traditional food!
Great restaurant that won't disappoint. The food was excellent. I had the 'traditional mix' every bite was flavourful, light, and very fresh. Close to the castle which is convenient while sightseeing. The restaurant has a nice view and is a little out of the way where tourists gather so you can enjoy your food in peace. Overall great experience and were very well looked after.

Goed eten van oprechte en vriendelijke mensen!
Prima geluncht, voor een schappelijke prijs. De medewerkers zijn super vriendelijk. Ze boden ons een parkeerplaats aan omdat er een parkeerwachter in de straat boetes aan het uitdelen was (, en ik stond dubbel, net als de hele straat). Een medewerker is helemaal met mij naar mijn auto gelopen en heeft me naar een privé parkeerplaats begeleid (al met al ruim 10 minuten werk). De auto heeft hier nog ruim 2 uur gestaan zodat we ook het fort konden bezoeken. Fooi hiervoor werd tot twee keer toe geweigerd. Oprecht vriendelijke mensen die me nog een boete hebben bespaard!

Ho deciso cenare in questo tipico locale con cucina albanese attirata dalle recensioni di altri viaggiatori… poco lontano dal bazar e da locali sicuramente più turistici, abbiamo affrontato una bella salita per arrivare... ma siamo stati ricompensati. Siamo stati accolti da personale molto gentile che ci ha consigliato piatti tipici, gustosi e buonissimi! Vale davvero la pena

Esperienza disastrosa a Gjirokastro
La nostra esperienza in questo ristorante è stata semplicemente orribile. Appena arrivati, siamo stati avvicinati da un ragazzo e un uomo che ci hanno chiesto se volessimo mangiare lì, promettendoci un parcheggio gratuito. Quando abbiamo gentilmente rifiutato e deciso di parcheggiare, stavamo tranquillamente andando via, quando il ragazzo ha iniziato a minacciarci, dicendo che avrebbe chiamato la polizia perché eravamo in divieto di sosta. Ironia della sorte, ci trovavamo esattamente dove lui voleva farci parcheggiare! Questo comportamento intimidatorio e maleducato è stato completamente inappropriato e ha rovinato la nostra visita a Gjirokastro. Consiglio vivamente a chiunque di evitare questo posto e cercare alternative più accoglienti e rispettose.

Ottima cucina tipica Albanese, personale veramente gentile e sorridente, abbastanza veloci. In una giornata di pioggia si sono premurati a chiudere immediatamente le tende, e a sistemarci al meglio i tavoli per non farci bagnare. In fine il titolare ci ha offerto due bei bicchieri di grappa locale. prezzi onesti e cibo buono

Bad food, slow service, dishes came delayed from each other. Very small portions. They say they don't accept credit card but then, if you say that you have no cash, magically the POS appears. Stay away!!!

A very nice spot with nice people. All is perfect, kindness of the family, the lunch, the dessert, the turkish cofee and the handmade raki. Even the view from terrasse… I spent a very good time with my book and the sweet grand father !

Friendly family run restaurant
Amazing family run restaurant overlooking the town and castle. Had delicious lunch here of stuffed aubergine, port and chicken skewers and village salad. Great value - 4 dishes and 4 beers for less than €23 for 2 people. Really friendly service from young waiter. Would highly recommend.
Family food, tasty and very good value
This place is like visiting family. The food is amazing (we had pepers abd kebabs) and decor very traditional. Grandpa is a wonderful chap looking after everyone like they are his own family. Pet turtles running around the place. It's a truly wonderful place to eat.

Spec-tortoise-cular! Lovely food with great flavours enhanced with the presence of lovely tortoises who will meander around eating anything green within inches of the floor. Great flavours and very authentic foods and nice terrace view over suburban Gjirokaster, just a stones throw from the castle. Very relaxing and enjoyable.

Une petite montée vers 19h, loin de la foule... Parfait pour profiter de la fraîcheur malgré 37 °C pas du tout ressentis en terrasse. Service irréprochable, nourriture délicieuse (feuilles de vigne, meat ball, poivrons farcis, salade, brochettes porc et poulet, biere, eau et... dessert offert).

Espectacular
Cenamos una noche y todo estaba riquísimo, muy casero y nos invitaron al postre, un bizcocho muy bueno e incluso frutas para los niños, y a una copita del famoso Raki. La familia que lo regenta es maravillosa, dos chicos jóvenes y su abuelo, muy amables y atentos. La terraza es muy agradable, con vistas a una parte del castillo. Cuidan mucho al cliente y nos tomamos unas fotos con ellos y su famoso sombrero de la zona. Sin duda lo recomiendo a todo el mundo

Ristorante tipico, dei tavoli (su un a terrazza) si occupa il giovane Ledjo che parla un ottimo inglese e con pazienza ci spiega cos'è la Musaka (una specia di lasagna com vari tipi di verdure). Ci offrono il Rraki e del thè a fine pasto. Alla fine foto con lo chef (la nonna di Ledjo).

Family run restaurant with excellent hospitality. Traditional raki made by the grandfather should be tried but a word of caution; it's very strong. We were treated to complimentary homemade cakes and tea specially brewed by the grandfather. Qifqi and chicken kebabs are one of the few must try dishes.

È come mangiare in famiglia
Invogliati dalla cortesia e dal sorriso genuino del cameriere, un ragazzo di 15 anni, ci siamo fermati a mangiare in questo ristorantino a conduzione familiare. Il cibo è tradizionale e davvero gustoso, con un ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo. A fine pasto ci hanno offerto il dolce e la grappa di loro produzione. Ci siamo sentiti coccolati come se fossimo a casa

It is not a big place but hospitality is number one. This traditional restaurant is situated on a hill and has quite simple menu, but dont worry - if you order Qifqi, there wont be a way back :)

We found this place and we never searched anymore for another place to eat. Great soup (Pasha meatballs), amazing Stuffed Eggplants (Patellxhane te mbushura), wonderful rice balls (Qifqi), tasty french fries (patatoes), unforgetable Pie with cheese or spinach, cale with chery jam and The sweetest watermellon. All of these, served with a natural and Big Smile on the face.

Cenamos platos tradicionales, me encantó probar diferentes sabores. Muy educados, también cercanos. Nos ofrecieron su bebida casera tradicional. Y nos hicimos una foto con sus gorros tradicionales. Muy bien ubicado cerca del castillo, bonito sitio, y muy buena experiencia.

Llegamos a Girokaster con mucha hambre y el restaurante superó nuestras expectativas. Comimos 6 platos típicos con bebida y a parte de muy bueno nos salió a 24 euros comiendo 4 personas. El camarero era jovencito y se defiende en ingles. Él estubo muy atento y servicial. Experiencia genial.

Not Really for Tourists
Maybe we visited on a bad night, but our dining experience was less than good. The restaurant seemed to be more of a meeting place for friends of the family and dinner customers took second place to these family friends. We were generally ignored and given just cursory service while the grandfather and father entertained their friends. I'd skip this place and go to one of the many other good restaurants in Gjirokaster who act like they truly want your business.
Our favourite traditional meal in Albania
We came across this restaurant after seeing good reviews on here and it did not disappoint. They kindly kept the kitchen open when we arrived quite late in the evening and our waiter was very friendly, service was quick. We had the chicken and pork kebabs, stuffed aubergine and moussaka. All were absolutely delicious! It was great value and the best traditional meal we ate whilst in Albania. We would highly recommend!

The food was very delicious and there were reasonable prices. You can also find a parking spot easily. The staff was super friendly and they offered us free drinks and dessert. Really recommend this restaurant. It will make you feel like home.
Great service, great food!
We visited as it had the highest rating on trip advisor. The staff were so attentive and the food was great. We had the meatballs, chicken skewers, cheese pie, stuffed peppers and bread. All dishes were lovely and great value for money. With 2 beers the whole meal cost us less than £20. We would definitely recommend for a traditional Albania meal!

Food okay, service a bit of a calamity
The place was empty when we arrived. The young man serving was lovely, as was his grandfather, and the food wasn't bad (pork souvlaki overcooked, everything else fine), but oh dear…. Is there such a thing as being too nice, generous and friendly? If so, this is the place. Having just received wine I was offered a raki. Or two. During the meal we were brought a teapot of sugary mountain tea, whilst still drinking wine (we don't do tea and sugar!). Strawberries and cake before the wine was finished. We asked for salt for the chips and it became comedic. First we received two bowls of pepper, the. The grandfather squeezed ketchup and mustard into two bowls. I had forgotten my glasses but managed to look up the Albanian word for salt, and it was…. Solt. I know, I should know Albanian - but it was the same word - is my accent that bad? I don't want to be horrible because they were so nice. But some restraint please

Charming little traditional restaurant with lovely view!
Myself and my friend visited this lovely cafe a few weeks ago. We had a tasty breakfast of omlettes and fresh bread. I asked for some black tea which they didn't serve but the elderly man who worked there allowed us to taste some traditional Albanian mountain tea which we loved and then ordered a pot of. The young boy serving the table was so welcoming & friendly. The view from the cafe is beautiful and would definitely recommend a trip here for a real taste of Albania!

Excellent food, good value and safe for coeliac disease
Really good wait staff, very attentive and good service. The mixed traditional was a particular highlight. They brew their own wine (white and red) and their own raki, both of which are amazing. In the daytime, the views of the city are excellent. One of our party had coeliac disease, and they understood what gluten was which is rare for the region and the majority of their food could be modified to cater for this immunologic enteropathy. All in all, an exceptional meal for a very reasonable price. For a meat mixed grill, 3 appetisers, a half litre of wine and 2 glasses of raki we paid under 30€. Excellent value and some of the best food we have had in the region
Amazing Food

Wonderful food and drinks in a beautiful location. The stuffed eggplant was my favorite but everything was marvelous!
Urat Dinner
We had a very nice traditional meal at urat, the young owner does a very good job! Very kind and nice food prepared by the family. Nice to see a starting family restaurant do well. The location is also nice, up the hillside, with a bit of view.
Homemade food in Gjirokaster
Good homemade food. The owner was very nice, and offered us Raki, a typicaly albanian drink. We just felt that the portions could be a bit bigger

Jantar delicioso, comida muito bem cozinhada pela avó de Ledjon (o rapaz muito simpático que nos serviu). Comida caseira, tipica e muito, muito saborosa! Recomendo! sitio com um terraço sobre o castelo e donos muito simpaticos !

Il cibo è nella media Il ragazzino che serve è veramente bravo e molto gentile L'unica pecca che per me è importante, finito di pranzare il titolare oltre che puzzare di sudore non è stato molto educato ci ha fatto alzare senza prendere il caffè perché altra gente si doveva accomodare... Quindi per me è un grande maleducato
Friendly and welcoming
We visited on a warm evening in mid-October. The owner and family were very welcoming throughout. From tasting the wine to make sure we liked it, to extra cushions for comfort and a glass of (strong!) raki, it was a great experience. It was a memorable experience.

Unglaublich freundliches Personal und gutes Essen. Die kostenlosen 14 Raki haben der Stimmung auch keinen Abbruch getan. Am Ende gab es auch noch Desert für Umme.
Autentico, come a casa
Vicino al castello, posticino semplice, quasi spartano, con una piccola terrazza panoramica. Cucina semplice ma molto buona, come a casa, ottime le carni alla griglia, i kebab (spiedini), patatine fritte come le faceva la nonna (ossia le PATATE VERE!!! non quelle surgelate). Rapporto qualità / prezzo ottimo, loro tutti premurosi e molto gentili. Molto meglio di tanti posti del centro

Very sympatic owners and good traditionell food. The salad with tomatos cheese cucumber and onions ist fantastic. Nice view on the Castle on the terasse
Superior folkfood!
In a great city like Gjirokaster it is so surprising to have a delicious dinner with plenty of traditional folkfood for about €15 per person…. meatballs included. The raki and the sweet dessert after dinner were " on the house ". It was cold, rainy and windy that evening so don't forget to take your Merino outfit.

Sehr nette Gastgeber. Familiäre Atmosphäre und schöne Terrasse. Hatte die sehr schmackhafte gefüllte Auberginge und den super feinen Village Salat (Griechischer Salat). Einfache und ehrliche traditionelle Küche. Günstig, herzlich und gut. Chai, Raki und Dessertgebäck gingen aufs Haus. Würde wieder hier Essen.

Great lunch! The food was great, delicious meal and very nice view from the castle and of the city. Perfect to place to stop at after walking around Old Town and visiting the old castle

Familly lunch
Food was great we tried out some albanian tradicional dishes. My wife even got to try some of home-made rakija. Staff treated us very kindly.

The owner and his grandson couldn't have been nicer. I had traditional shi kebabs and vegetables with a Korça beer. So authentic and delicious. Also a wonderful view of the town
