Not the same
A little history first. My father who has passed would always take my mother to pearles I never could understand why he would travel 6 hours round trip for fish and chips. As I got older and got married I did the same I would pack up the car and drive the long ride for those fish and chips. A simple chip nothing special but there fish was so light on the batter and different from the wet mess of batter every where else. Fresh fish and the light batter would have me comparing every other fish to it. There was always a wait in the past as every farm family seemed to be there with a cattle tag waiting for the best fish and chips. But last night there were only a few cars there and as we sat in our car eating our fish it was not the same the look was there the fish was fresh but the tast was off, it was the first time sense its sale to new owners and I could not get the taste of I think was nut meg out of my mouth. It was off putting and no more a place my wife and I will go to enjoy like we did.
Not what it used to be
Went for lunch and we both ordered haddie bits Mostly barely warm fries and fish was very greasy. Coleslaw and tartar sauce buried under the fries so was hot and unappetizing. Few hours later the meal was still sitting heavy from the grease. For the price would expect better and we will save our money in future. Pictures on site are misleading as it is all seems to be served like it's takeout and not on a plate like some of the pictures show.
Deliciously classic
We have been going here since 2009, never had a bad experience, fish is fresh and service is great, it's always one of our favourite spots in Nova Scotia. We stopped by today and it was wonderful
Never again!
We use to love this place but after today, not anymore. We were both sick from the overload of grease! The fries are frozen and were white and mushy. I had onion rings and the bottom of the container was soaking with a pile of grease. Never again will we waste our money. It's too bad, it use to be our favorite place but something went wrong this year (2024).
Terrible food awaits you at Pearles
Ordered Pearle's special burger and my wife ordered a fish burger and fries. We waited one hour and 10 minutes for our order. The two burger patties were almost as thin as paper and fell apart as soon as I took it out. They loaded mustard, ketchup and mayo on it. It was gross. My wife's fish burger was not fresh. The fries were from a frozen bag. Not good. I ended up throwing away the burger and will NEVER be back again as this is the second time I've went there and the food was crap both times!!
Ice cream
Always go for ice cream, cheap and delicious I don't tend to purchase hot food, just go for an ice cream
Overcooked Fish Cold Chips
Pearls is a take out and Today we ordered Haddock and Chips. The Fish was grossly overcooked with the batter almost black.. but what made it worse was the chips were cooked but were cold.. really cold. Will certainly will think twice about eating at Pearls again. Another point is that it takes almost 30 minutes to get your order. The reason for the long wait time is that those people who phone in their order get priority over those who drive and order.. we drove 24km to get the meal and had to wait while 4 phone in customers jumped the line up.. which of course delayed the cooking of the people who Drive.
The Best!
We stopped in on a recommendation while travelling back to Halifax…. We were not disappointed we each had a one piece fish and chips. The portions were generous and probably the best fish and chips I have had in my 37 years of living in NS. Can't wait to get back!
Overcooked worst chip stand food ever
Long wait for very disappointing over cooked food. Fries were all hard and burnt. Will never at there again.
The Staff Here SUCK!
Haven't seen the grandparents in nearly five years so we came here to dine outside so they could gather and see their grandkids (who are all young adults). While the grandad was having difficulties with the debit machine, two staff members were laughing at him. Classy. We had asked if we could put two tables together and were told that they didn't want us to move them. Admittedly, we did put two picnic tables together so we could sit together (moved one 20' to the left) then washed them down, as they were covered in ice cream from previous clients. Halfway through our meal the red-haired female who took our order came out to tell us that her manager said we had to put the table back NOW. I asked if we could finish our meal first and she said no. I asked to talk to the manager and she said he wasn't there, that she had called him to tell him we had moved the table. I asked to talk to her away from the table and she said no, and that she felt threatened by me! WTF?? I told her that we were 10 people who would not be coming here again. She started yelling at me and said, " Good! We don't need your business! " I said, " You suck. " She yelled, " You're a bit@h and you better get the f outta here 'cause I'm calling the cops! " Yeah…no way will I give them another red cent. Ignorant, disrespectful of elders, and inconsiderate to their needs. And the food was only " meh. " Lots of great places in the valley to visit but this isn't one of them.
Large portions & amazing taste!
1st time I had the scallops. WOW! Also had the fish n chips and haddie bits. All were simply amazing! Softserve ice cream is tasty as well. 100% recommend if you enjoy this type of food.
Had a wonderful meal at Pearle's
Had a wonderful meal at Pearle's. We had clams and chips and fish and chips. I thought I could have a one piece and still have room for Ice cream. However it was so big I had to pass on the ice cream. This is a great little establishment in The Annapolis valley.
Ice cream is great
The ice cream is great but the sea food is going down hill, they should have homemade fries. Also if they are serving food they should have to have a washroom available! I know it's COVID but they can still have a washroom for their customers to us! Other restaurants do!!! I won't be back if they don't open their washrooms!
Parts are exceptional; and others, well, it's changed
Have gone here for decades off and on; the soft serve ice cream remains the best that you will find anywhere! Their burgers are decent also. Their hadibits however, which, I would have considered exceptional in the past are not that anymore. The batter has changed, this comes with fries which are the store bought type but never bothered me until their fish delivery changed, because it used to be so good.
Say they close at 7, but really close at 6:30
Used to come here a lot as a kid, and this was going to be my family's first visit since at least 2008. Clearly a lot has changed since then. We were driving in from Halifax (visiting from Cape Breton) hoping to make it before it closed, and I started calling around 6:30 to put an order in but kept getting " User busy " instead of an answered call. I called multiple times and never got an answer. Upon arriving at 6:55, we were told that they start shutting fryers down at 6:30 and also shut the phones off. That is terrible customer service; the very least you could do is leave your phones on to tell callers the situation. The servers weren't even apologetic, seemingly caring more about the end of their shift. This is getting one star because we weren't even told we couldn't get served. Waste of a trip.
oh the food!
When you see this tiny little take out, with picnic tables all around, you would not expect the food to be so amazing. I had a seafood platter (scallops, loads of clams, and haddie bits, and fries), hubby had 3 piece fish and chips. Prices may seem high, but portions are MASSIVE, and so very delicious. I have definitely never seen such huge fish portions as hubby had, he could barely finish it. Very popular, so I would suggest phoning in your order if you are pressed for time, otherwise enjoy chatting at the picnic tables. It may be due to covid, but the bathrooms were unavailable, jut so you know.

Worth the wait!
Pearle's is a must when we visit Nova Scotia. If you're lucky, there won't be many people in line when you arrive, but don't count on it! I've tried seafood all over the mainland, but will always go back to Pearle's for their seafood platter! My only complaint is that they don't compost (and there is often left over food) or use biodegradable plates..... ♻
Yummy Delight
Stopped at Pearl's, had large clams and chips... delicious, but too many fries for me. Stopped the 2nd. day, had 1 piece fish and small clams, also delicious. Ordered large milkshake, very disappointed with the size for the price.
Good Food & Large Portions
I always get the haddie bits & fries! Tried a few clams and they were good too. Check out the onions rings..... Yum Pearls is also known for its large ice cream servings. Many picnic tables scattered around to enjoy your meal.
Good burgers & fries
If you're looking for basic food without any frills, this will fill the bill. The burgers are pretty good. The fish and chips were ok, not great. Good selection of ice cream flavours. An out of the way spot on a Sunday drive to get a quick bite and a breath of fresh air at the picnic tables available.
Haddie bits heaven!
If you like haddock, this little spot has the best and freshest haddie bits around! Cooked up crisp with tender flaky haddock, these local delights will have you coming back again and again. You can eat at one of the picnic tables or in your vehicle as this spot does not have an eat in space. You have never seen busy until you come here on Mother's Day! It's like everyone in the Annapolis Valley are eating out! You can phone in your order ahead of time too, to avoid any waiting. Very convenient!
Worst Ever!
This place is absolutely the worst place for seafood I've ever been to. Bland, frozen haddock and frozen fries! Ok if you want ice cream as they seem to be able to deal with frozen here! Can't believe people actually rave about this place. If you want actual fresh seafood, head to The Crow's Nest near Parkers Cove!
Absolutely Wonderful food
Pearls in Paradise has been around for years and everytime I get a chance to head to the valley and if given a chance i go there for the Ice Cream and also the very tasty Fish and Chips.
Great Food
Ordered Chicken & Chips and they were excellent. Portions were good, quantity was great and the price was good as well.
Good... not great
4 of us stopped in here for dinner. This is a take out place only with picnic table surrounding the little building next to the roadside. A variety of food was ordered...1 2 pc fish and chips, 1 scallops and chips, 1 large clams and chips, and 1 hamburger with chips. All this and 3 bottles of pop for $60 was reasonable. Hamburger was ok... tasted fine but wished the onions were fried, not raw. Clams were good, not great and the person with the scallops said the same thing. Ok.. not great. Fish and chips - batter was extremely heavy, not light and crispy. Batter looked like pancake batter or what you would get on a corn dog at the fair. Chips were all just ok. Wouldn't make a special trip back
Went in a recommendation
Went on a recommendation from a friend and turns out it was a great recommendation. The food was cheap and good. We had some hamburgers and my wife ventured for the clam burger. Everyone loved their meal and was too stuff for ice cream afterward. It is the perfect stop for a family on the go.
Tasty fast food great prices
Amazed by how fast the service was. Had the scallop burger with bacon and it was delicious at a very cheap price. This place is nothing fancy and only take out but wow a great meal at a super low price. We will be back
Good service
As busy as it always is here, the wait is not that long. Only one bathroom accessed by outside of building, but has a door to the inside for staff I guess but I'm nit sure how that works? Always feels as though someone may walk in on you because no way to lock from inside the bathroom.. Shade over the picnic tables would be nice because ice cream Melts before you can eat it on the hot days. Never a problem with the staff service :-)
Went down hill greasy food not the same
wife and myself always went there for great haddie bits but this year 2018 were not that good at all must double dip there food into grease not going back
Decent Quantity for a Low Price
We ordered the large Haddie Bits and Fries (about $15 including tax). It was enough of a portion for two of us to eat and be satisfied although not stuffed. The fries are frozen, so they are nothing special. The haddie bits were mostly tender (except for the small ends which were tough), but the batter lacked any seasoning (including salt, it seemed) meaning that they could have been more flavorful and better than they were. The large order (about 14 haddie bits and about a liter of fries) came with one very small paper cup (think of a paper cup for squirting ketchup into at a fast food place) filled with slaw and another cup of the same size filled with tartar sauce--not nearly enough considering the amount of fish and fries. We found the place by accident driving by and noticed that this small place (looking like a walk-up Dairy Queen building from the 1950s) had about 25 cars filling its parking lot. We returned after our B & B operators confirmed it was worth trying. We found it to be satisfactory but not outstanding, although the cars kept coming and the lines stayed long.
As is the case with many restaurants, you have to know what they do well
What they do quite well is serve " Haddie bits with fries " Frozen french fries but the haddie bits are very good. You do have to eat outside at picnic tables or inside your car, or take home.
Once beloved for large portions, not so large anymore
I love a good feed.. what I don't love is smaller sizes AND upping the PRICE. I totally get that things are getting more expensive, so... UP the price, NOT both up it AND change the portions. The food is GREAT, but it isn't as good a value now. This changed last Spring, (2017) and it is the same this year. (2018) Smaller containers, less portions. (By about 1 / 4). This place is about 10 mins from our home so they used to get a lot of our business and many locals.. but, that has changed since last year when they made the changes. Unfortunately the images before 2017 season don't reflect the current menu sizes. Again, Food is great, but the buggered the sizes and upped the prices. = (If we eat there, we call for the 'special'.. and decide from there.
Seafood and.
For a real Scotian treat, have the baddie bits here, and then follow up with any of a wide range of ice cream treats, in a rural valley setting, drive in, drive out.

we are English and we know our fish n chips ! And have tried them all over NS in the 18 years we have lived here. Simply put these are the best no contest places like " johns lunch " in metro are no where close to the standard of this place, remember its a road side place that only has tables in the parking lot or eat in your car, plus limited hours and closed late fall to early summer but please you owe it to yourself to take a trip to Paradise and eat here like i said its the best, will try the clams next time ! oh and the thick milkshakes are the best
Best ice cream ever!!!
From Ontario we always make a stop at Pearles for ice cream when visiting Nova Scotia. Tastes so much better than ice cream in Ontario!
A real gem off the beaten path
Locals know this place well and took us here for dinner. Only open during the late-spring to early-fall and definitely a place to get lots of seafood for relatively cheap. The fish was deep-fried just right and the portions were very generous - you can easily feed a family of four with a couple orders. If you're from Alberta and know Peters Drive-In, then this place is the seafood equivalent. Worth coming back if in the area again...
Always so good
Been eating here for many years and love most of their menu. My fav is the haddie bits and fries. My husband loves the Clams and fries because the clams are nice and small. If you order a burger, be specific on what you want on it. Portions are large, so bring your appetite. Or do like the rest of us do and take what you can't eat home.
Enjoyed it here
We stopped off for food going from Annapolis Royal to Wolfville and really enjoyed our lunch. We all had the haddie bites and fries and have nothing at all to complain about (apart from the weather; we really wanted to be sitting out on the picnic tables but it was so wet we had to stay in the car). The staff were very friendly and the food was really tasty. We were glad we stopped off here today.
Not impressed
Had to try heard so much about it not impressed it was on a weekend so had a 45 min. Wait first waiting in the car you look at a shed that needs painting 2 hrs and 2 gal. Paint a piece of lattice fence all broken $ 15.00 the light for there sign hanging by the wire $100.00 and the parking area is full of pot holes so saying all that you wonder about the repair etc. of the kitchen and cleanliness the food had Haddie bits and frys the fish very very fresh tasting but nothing special and there frys I was surprised they were just frozen and not good at all not much effort put into things I doubt I would go back to many other choices
Light, non-oily batter
We stopped here on the way home from Annapolis Royal for a quick bite to eat and absolutely loved it. We had the Haddie bits, clams, French fries and salad. The batter wasn't too thick, was light with a little crunch and enjoyed by my 3 boys (5, 5 and 2). The portions were generous and the " bits " were just the right size for kids (a large order was enough to feed 3 hungry boys). The green salad was more like a chopped salad with lots of different fresh veggies on lettuce, which was far better than the bagged salad that I was expecting. Dressing selection was your typical diner options (Italian, French, ranch). It's more of a drive in diner. A large line up of locals is always a good sign of good food! Most of the locals drove in, ordered pick up and drove off. But for us travellers, there are a few picnic tables set up on some grass in behind. We finished off with soft and hard ice cream. The ice cream sizes were also very generous! Great food, great prices, great find!

Frozen fries!!?
Review titles like " Amazing " are sooo wrong. From the raving about this place, the expectation was that it should be very good fish 'n chips. It is not. The fish is just okay / ordinary, but the fries are terrible. Frozen, cardboard, tasteless crap like the frozen crinkle cut bags from the grocery store. And they're expensive for a roadside takeout 'chippie'. Almost $30 for two orders, no beverages. I guess they don't grow potatoes in the Annapolis Valley? LOL

Best take out food! Nothing bad to say about this place, it was packed full of people and our order still came quick and the price was fair! Delicious 😊
Consistently tasty!
Pearle's is an awesome takeout spot. Always have good size portions, cooked perfectly and timely. Ice Cream treats are amazing with a huge variety of choices. Problem with Pearle's is that it's very well liked, always a line-up so don't wait until you're starving to go there. If you do.... it's worth the wait!!!
great food!
I love Pearle's, and I very much enjoy the system that they use by calling your number when your food is ready. I think that the food here is wonderful although the prices are a bit high considering there is not service being done by the people working there. Some things that I believe would be good improvements for this business would be to have people bringing the food out to the car for you or to increase the size of the kitchen, staff and the parking lot. A larger kitchen and staff would allow for more people to be preparing the food so that they could supply food for more people faster. The wait can be very long at times and that is very inconvenient for some people. The parking can be an issue also, because sometimes there are so many people that it is impossible to eat there. Opening a new location could most likely solve most of these problems, as the location is kind of remote and far away for most people. Pearle's is a very successful business and I believe that expanding would be very much so in their favor. The menu at pearls isn't huge but it has a good selection of what people come there aiming to get which is mostly seafood. The ice cream selection however is very large and they have many different styles such as sundaes, blizzards, hard and soft ice cream. With these suggestions which I'm sure have been already In the back of your mind you could greatly improve your business.
Best Haddie Bits ever
I've been in to eat a few times, I always have the Haddie Bits.... They're great and the price is competitive. Love the ordering and waiting for your number to be announced to get your food. Then getting to sit outside at picnic table... Love it
Delicious Fish
This little take out is Fantastic!! I LOVED the Fish and Fries - so very fresh and tasty. Large portions - I had a small, which was too much food for me, but it was so tasty and fresh I ate the whole thing!!! After finding this take out, I went there again for a meal before heading back for home.

Not Disappointed
After a weekend of working, we decided to treat ourselves to seafood at Pearl's on Sunday Aug 21, 2016. The place was busy and the lineup quite long, but surprisingly orders were taken very quickly. We found ourselves a picnic table in the back and settled in to watch cars come and go, and people bring their ready orders to eat. After what seemed like an eternity, smelling the deep fried food wafting, our order was ready. The fish, clams, fries and onion rings had a wonderful taste and everything was hot and wonderful.
Great find!
We stumbled upon this place while driving along Route 1 in Nova Scotia - so glad we did. Great classic roadside fish and burger place. Take out only, but that's no problem with the number of picnic tables on the grounds. Also decent bathrooms. Nice variety of food - esp. seafood. Ice cream too. Popular with local folks.
Fish & Chips a specialty
This is a takeout facility. They have quite an extensive menu which incluse many flavors of ice cream. This is a very popular stopping spot in the area. The food is very good for a facility of this type.
Haddie Bits are enough for 2
Often when we are out for the weekend scenic drive / touring, we stop on the way back for Haddie Bits and Burgers. The portions are great and are some of the best Haddie Bits in the area. The Clams are great as well, had them previously here. Your options are to eat in your car, at a picnic table outside or bring it home, we often eat in the car. The prices are very reasonable for seafood, the portions are large and great tasting. Well worth the stop on your way through, its like stepping back in time when you pull up to this Drivein / Takeout Restaraunt
Great seasonal take out location!
We've eaten here on and off many times over the years. It offers a wide variety of take style food and many types of ice cream. It has lots of parking just off Hwy # 1 and the service is quick.
YUMMY!!
You must try the fish, esp the haddies. Your plate will be overflowing with delicious pieces of fish in a crispy batter. Wish they had home fries but I think since they are so busy, its impossible. Can't believe the volume of people in there all the time. That surely says something for this well loved eatery. Clams were also good but portion smaller than most places. I'm sure they get the Digby clams as awesome.
Paradise Lost
Summer and a chocolate dipped soft serve ice cream cone to top off a feast of Haddie Bits and Clams at Pearle's has been a treasured seasonal treat for us for over a decade. This evening we were sadly disappointed. Haddie Bits were delicious but huge portion sizes were very expensive. The side of gravey was tepid and tasteless and incapable of redeeming the frozen french fries. The chocolate milk shake seemed half sugary corn syrup colored with some chocolate and was seriousy short of milk and ice cream. We could not drink it. Onion rings were very good, as was the vanilla soft serve. We love the this old style drive in but could they not freshen up the paint on the sign? Grade or even pave the dirt / gravel parking lot? Pearle's needs a bit of TLC.
Great Greasy Spoon Roadside Restaurant
This place is a gem. Exactly what you picture when you think of a little roadside burger joint. Delicious.
