Cooking class in Hakuba
My partner and I had a wonderful experience at Open Kitchen in Hakuba, led by the wonderful Misuzu. Her space is warm and inviting, and we found the class both interactive and fun. Misuzu is patient, kind, and knowledgeable. It was an absolute pleasure to be taught by her. I would highly recommend taking one of her classes in either location!
Unforgettable Cooking Class with the Incredible Misuzu
My friends and I recently dined at Open Kitchen Cooking Studio as a group of 8, and it was an unforgettable experience. Our host, Misuzu, was an amazing teacher, sharing her knowledge and passion for food with us. She made us all feel welcome and created a warm and inviting atmosphere. We learned how to make Gyozas, Ramen, and Teriyaki Chicken, and each dish was more delicious than the last. The class was a perfect balance of hands-on cooking and demonstration, and we all had a blast preparing and enjoying the food we made. I would highly recommend this cooking class for anyone who loves food and wants to learn new techniques in a fun and engaging environment. Can't wait to come back again!
Wonderful experience, delicious and fun!
Wonderful two days with Misuzu cooking gyoza and sushi. She was very welcoming and shared her knowledge in a fun and interactive way. Food was also delicious! My fiancé who doesn't enjoy cooking loved it, we will definitely be cooking more when we get home!
Fantastic experience in Hakuba! Must-do for food lovers
I loved this fun, informative and personal experience to break up the days of skiing. Misuzu was very welcoming of us into her home where she showed us the tricks and shared her tips on making the best sushi and gyoza. Definitely do this if you're a foodie!

Fantastic cooking class
I did two classes with Misuzu and each was fantastic. Both were very informative and delicious to eat. The first class we made Japanese Pancake and Gyoza. The second we made Sushi and Karabe chicken. Misuzu is a great teacher, very enthusiastic about food and speaks excellent English. Would highly recommend her classes.
amazing experience
We were a group of 5 - 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a 12 year old. We learned to make gyoza and okonomyaki. Misuzu is an wonderful teacher, patient with clear instructions. We were all utterly engaged and totally enjoyed the whole process of learning how to make the dishes, the hands on involvement and then of course eating the delicious food at the end. It has been one of the highlights of our trip - I can highly recommend spending the time on a class, you won't regret it. I hope I can try to recreate these dishes when back home in Australia. Excellent Gyozas & Sushi made by us!
My husband & two teenage sons (18 & 16 yrs) joined me in this cooking class. We had a great time with Misuzu instructing on how to prepare & chop our fresh ingredients. We were taught how to prepare two different types of sushi (small cucumber ones & larger 5 ingredient rolls) right from how to prepare the rice to the challenge of rolling it. Next we did the pork gyozas - learning how to pleat the gyoza skin so they look pretty & don't burst open when cooking. After all of this we sat down & ate our creations with Misuzu answering all of our many questions. Her English was really good. We would highly recommend this as an activity & would certainly be doing it again when in Hakuba. Misuzu mentioned she also does classes in Tokyo outside of the ski season.
Ouishii Gyoza 🥟 & Sushi 🍣
Our family of 5 loved this afternoon cooking class... Amazing teacher and the whole family really enjoyed learning, hands on and the best part of course is eating what we made. The Class view is the beautiful mountains in a perfect Echoland setting. Highly recommend this class as a must for all!!! Thanks Misuzu☺

Awesome experience in Japan
As a group of three we attended Misuzu's cooking class after a skiing day. She gave us a warm welcome and told us what we can expect from the class. As we've selected the sushi and the Japanese Pancake while the registration process she already prepared the basics but told us how she did it so we would know. She showed us how to do it and then we tried it ourselves. The ingredients we delicious and so was the food. We would have never thought before that we were be able to make sushi and the traditional Japanese dish on our own but Misuzu enabled us. She speaks English fluently why it was not only easy to follow her but also to have interesting conversations about her business and Japan. Overall this is for sure one of the most remarkable and lasting memories we take from our vacation. It can get busy during the season so we recommend to book the class a couple days before.
Highly recommended
Visited Misuzu today for cooking lesson - chicken karaage and gyozas. Great way to spend the afternoon. Misuzu is very friendly with fantastic English. Best karaage and gyozas I've eaten as well. Look forward to making it at home :)
Tasty experience
I learned to make gyoza and sushi roll from Misuzu. She is very accommodationg to any dietary restrictions, I was able to make my dishes without meat. They turned out fantastic. Misuzu is an excellent teacher and wonderful person to spend some hours with learning about Japanese culture and food. A great activity if you're not skiing, I highly recommend Open Kitchen
Great experience
I spent an afternoon here learning how to make Japanese soup stock and pancakes. I had a really great time learning about these foods and other aspects of Japanese culture. Highly recommend a visit here. The host is lovely, she is helpful and speaks english well. We had a great conversation.

We had a lovely afternoon with Misuzu learning how to cook gyoza and Japanese pancakes. Delicious recipes. She was very informative and had some great extra tips.. Would highly recommend booking one of her classes, she was fantastic.
Fantastic Experience
My husband and I went to Hakuba for skiing, I had seen this advertised and wanted to give it a go, hubby just wanted to ski, he decided to come along and have a rest day. We both enjoyed every single minute of this class, absolutely lovely lady who speaks english as well as her Japanese. We learnt about the ingredients, all very hands on to make our dishes which were pork gyozas and sushi rolls two different ways. We then learnt how to cook them and at the end got to sit down to a beautiful setting overlooking the mountains and eating our lunch we had prepared ourselves, with some lovely green tea. We were also given a printed version of the recipes we learnt to prepare. And they pick you up from your accomodation and drop you back. We recommended it to some people who were staying at our same hotel as a break for a day or you can do an evening class and take your own alcohol. We decided then and there next time we visit, we will be pre booking a few classes for evenings so we can learn lots more and have fun whilst doing it. Highly recommend for a couple or a family or for a group of friends.
We loved this cooking class!
We had a lovely time learning how to cook gyoza and sushi. Misuzu is a fantastic teacher, teaching us all the tricks in making our Japanese food. We got to sit and eat our creations after the class. We had a bit left over which we could bring it home for the kids. We will be eating more Japanese food when we get back home to Australia.

We had an amazing evening cooking and eating sushi rolls and gyozas with Misuzu. I highly recommend booking this cooking class if you are thinking of doing one in Hakuba!
Amazing authentic experience
My three friends and I were so impressed with Mitzusu's class. We were so welcomed and all felt really involved in the lesson. The food was really yummy and nothing felt rushed. We were able to bring some wine and relax over the process. Will be coming back on my next Hakuba Trip! Short walk from EchoLand.

My girlfriend and I were more than impressed with Mitzusu's cooking lesson. Her hospitality & knowledge were second to none. Definitely one of the highlights for our Japanese trip 😎
We have to do this again
My 11yo daughter and I made sushi and gyoza and we had a great time, the food was fantastic and an all together wonderful experience with Misuzu. We would love to see her again next year.
Great teacher, delicious food
Mizusu was a great teacher with excellent English. My partner and I made the chicken teriyaki and gyoza both tasted amazing. We had skipped breakfast before the class and planned it as an early lunch, luckily we did because we were both so full after the class, that said there were free containers available for any leftovers. I think it would be great to do with a group, book in advance.
Fantastic fun and Food
We booked a private cooking class with Misuzu on recommendation from a friend and we had the best time. Misuzu is wonderful and making the 3 menus was a lot of fun and tasted fantastic. A must do.
Best cooking class ever
My son and I booked in for a cooking class with Misuzu and did 3 menus for a cost of around $80 each for 3 hours including food. Communication with Misuzu was excellent from the beginning. My son has coeliac disease and I have quite a few allergies and she was very particular to clarify what we could and couldn't eat, sourced ingredients by internet and even rang the producer of one of the sauces to make sure it contained no gluten. We could then relax, knowing that the meal was completely safe for us to eat. We chose Gyoza, okonomiyaki and Kara age chicken. It was like cooking in a friend's kitchen. Warm, friendly and relaxed. Misuzu taught us many tricks of the trade and let us do all the cooking, just showing us a small sample of how to do what was needed then stepping aside so we could do it ourselves. The Gyoza were fabulous, the pancake was the best I'd ever tasted and the chicken was crispy but juicy on the inside. We sat and ate in comfort and felt like we had made s new friend by the end of the morning. Misuzu is an intelligent and warm woman who is passionate about her job. She loved the fact that we loved what we cooked. I would highly recommend this course. We picked a perfect day as it was raining on the slopes but we had booked 3 weeks previously. Her phone did not stop all morning. She could have filled the day 10 times over. If you want to do a cooking class like no other, this is the one but book early.
Best cooking class I have ever had
A hakuba must do! Really enjoyable cooking lesson where we did 1 sushi menu and 2 tempura menus between the two of us. Situated in a picturesque wooden chalet style house which was warm and inviting. A perfect way to spend a morning or afternoon. Extremely high quality teaching and have us plenty of quick tips.

What a fantastic experience! My private class with Misuzu was brilliant. Making Gyoza was lots of fun, Misuzu was kind and patient. This experience is ideal for anyone looking for something that doesn't involve ski sports. The class was at a very relaxed pace and I enjoyed the experience of learning off a true expert. An amazing experience!
I did the 3 course cooking class with Misuzu and it was fantastic! I made miso soup, teriyaki chicken and sushi, all of which tasted delicious. Misuzu was a great teacher, very easy to follow and understand. This class is a great experience and I highly recommend!!! I cannot wait to try out my new cooking skills back home!
Fantastic experience from start to finish
From the late night last minute reservation request, through to the booking of a taxi to take us back to our hotel, our host Misuzu was exceptional and gracious throughout. If you want a warm, hands on, enjoyable, and delicious lesson, this is the place to visit! We cannot recommend Misuzu highly enough! Her enthusiasm and warmth made our experience in her lovely kitchen a wonderful way to spend our rest day. Excellent class
We had a class with Misouzu, and it was fantastic. The lesson takes place in a cute house with views of the mountains. The chef changed the content of the lesson to accommodate us as vegetarians. The class was really informative and the food was fantastic :-)
Sush lesson from the best
Misuzu's home cooking class is an investment you won't regret! The beautiful studio is nestled amongst the snowy forest, but no matter how cold outside, the beautiful personality of the head chef and the cosy atmosphere in the cooking studio will warm you up in no time! My boyfriend and I learnt how to make different kinds of sushi and made enough for lunch and dinner! Great way to spend a snowy day in hakuba! Thanks again Misuzu 😊

I just had my first class at Misuzu's Open Kitchen, and it was fantastic! I cannot recommend it highly enough! Whether you're a novice or a gourmet chef Misuzu's class is a must do. The selection of dishes to cook is great, her tutorials are fun and easy, and you go home with the recipes so you can create them again and again. Misuzu makes everything so easy to understand, she gives great explanations of what types of produce to use as well as what flavours compliment the dishes. The class is given in her home, so it's relaxed, cosy and very welcoming, just like visiting an old friend. I went on my own, but I know Misuzu takes group bookings too. I want to go back tomorrow!!!!!

This was such a wonderful experience, our favourite day in Japan. Misuzu was an excellent teacher, and such an accommodating host. We have made the chicken teriyaki from scratch several times at home now :)

I booked the trio class; Miso, Terriyaki Chicken and Sushi Misuzu is a Great teacher, creating a warm relaxed and fun atmosphere. Session is very smooth running and flexible and cultural enriching. Great clear recipe sheets, lots a very current and practical tips Delightful environment with great views out into the snowy surrounds. We had a great conversation and I am enriched by many aspects of the class. Then the eating !magnificant and I actually cooked it all !!! Misuzu has a great way of getting you involved without you thinking about it. I left with my " left overs " and impressed my envious friends Thank YOU, MisuzuI highly recommend the experience to each and all...... so many variations as to who could enjoy as solo or group...

Do it. If you're contemplating going, just go! Misuzu was an amazing host, very accommodating, informative and a genuinely great teacher. The food we made was all Japanese. We chose to do the Sushi, Gyoza and Sukiyaki. They were phenomenal, I wish we had more time in Hakuba to go back and finish the other options. We were given a hot tea and menus of the meals we made for the road. A great experience and one which I'll be recommending to family and friends for their visits to Hakuba! Also, perfect English if that is a worry for anyone. Misuzu is THE perfect host. Go and enjoy yourselves.

Amazing class, very personal atmosphere. She speaks great English which is very helpful during the class. I would highly recommend doing this activity while in Hakuba.
Great evening of leaning to cook Japanese
We were searching for somewhere to learn to cook traditional Japanese food and found Open Kitchen by chance on a brochure. Misuzu was very accommodating and welcoming. We cooked Sushi, Gyoza, mixed Tempura and Sukiyaki over approx. 3-3.5hrs with her guidance. It was all delicious (of course) - making the gyoza filling and wrapping it in the their parcel and making the mixed tempura were the best. Though it's hard to go past too the taste of the delicious beef Sukiyaki too, it was very flavorsome.
Great cooking class
I just spent a lovely few hours with Misuzu learning how to cook my Japanese favourites, Okonomiyaki and Tempura. Misuzu is very friendly and genuine. On arrival I was offered a hot tea which was well received as it was a blizzard outside. All the ingredients were top quality and all my questions were happily and knowledgeably answered. I would recommend this cooking class to anyone.

Such a great cooking lesson with Misuzu. She was very insightful and shared great knowledge about authentic Japanese cusine. We made sushi, teriyaki chicken and miso soup. Great activity
After having some delicious green tea to warm up, we learned to make sushi rolls, chicken teriyaki, and miso soup. It was a great learning and doing experience and the food was absolutely delicious. Our host was excellent, very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Authentic Japanese Experience
My husband and I spent a great time here learning how to make gyozas and okonomiyaki under Misuzu's careful eye. She was fantastic and I can't wait to get home and make more! The course is well located in echoland where we were staying. We went and cooked our meal for lunch, however she offers it for dinner too which would be a great experience - only wish we were staying longer to do it for dinner too!

I spent a lovely morning with Misuzu making gyozas. It was a fun experience that concluded with eating my creations, and extras to take home. It was a welcome break from attempting to learn to ski ;)
Fantastic Japanese cooking class in Hakuba
I would highly recommend Misuzu's cooking class for those who are taking a rest day from the slopes. There are many different types of Japanese cuisine you can choose to make. For my session I made gyoza and okonomiyaki (Japanese pankcakes). The Open Kitchen experience is very hands on and in an intimate setting. I got to prepare and mix all of the ingredients for the two dishes. Misuzu provided very clear explanations for preparing the dishes and was a fantastic teacher. After we cooked both dishes I got to eat what we had made for lunch and has some lovely genmaicha tea to go with the meal. There was even enough food for me to take home for later! This class is perfect for intermediate and beginner cooks who would like to learn more about Japanese cooking.
