Club cycling holiday

We had a week of cycling in the Spanish mountains, and stayed at this little gem of a B & B. Barrie and Sue Moore are wonderful hosts, and could not do enough for us. Barrie collected us from Alicante airport and drove the hour or so up to Confrides, a small village just north of Alicante. Some of us stayed in the log cabin which was very comfortable and some stayed in the house. Breakfasts were superb. A choice of continental, full English, or Barrie's famous lumpy banana porridge 😂😂. Evening meals are also excellent. Sues cooking is legendary. Over the week, the whole group felt thoroughly spoiled, and we've already made plans to return next year. Great value and great venue. Thanks guys.

Each visit it just keeps getting better and better !

Another cracking training camp tucked away up in the mountains with Sue and Barrie and the newly switched on mains electricity ! From the superbly cosy log cabin to the wonderful home cooking, this is a very relaxing place to visit. However that was not the purpose of our visit. Cycling up in the mountains here just has to be experienced. You can go hours on lovely smooth roads without seeing a car. A word of caution though, save something for 'Barrie's Ballbreaker' which has to be scaled to get you home. Thanks guys, see you soon.

Cycling to die for!

Our cycle team returned here having been before, but it was my first visit. The descriptions of the place simply didn't do it justice. The views were spectacular set high up in the mountains at the end of a valley. Photos simply don't give you the grandeur of the surroundings. a superb area for cycling especially if you enjoy the climbs as this area has seen many stages of the Vuelta and is used by some pro teams for training. Reccomend the Colle De Rattes - a great challenge. The roads in the area are sublime and beautifully maintained - six riders cycling over 200 miles each and not one puncture! Barry and Sue are the loveliest hosts and we were well catered for during our stay. As a group of seven some of us stayed in the lodge which is quite rustic but very comfortable. Food was top class and just what we needed after a hard day in the saddle. If you are just there to relax, this is a great venue, quiet and off the beaten track. Highly reccomended!

What's not to like !

Peace, tranquillity, great hosts, food, cycling routes, the log cabin, the scenery. the mountain location, I could go on & on.... thanks again Barrie & Sue..... see you again in July.... hopefully with the newly installed electricity switched on !

Home from home

MooreThanWalks is an absolutely delightful and incredibly picturesque B & B just outside the village of Confrides. We were staying there last week with friends on a walking holiday and took advantage of their pickup and drop-off service from / to Alicante airport. It is run by Sue and Barry Moore - you could not find two kinder, more generous and friendly people - Sue is the perfect hostess and a marvellous cook and Barry is the Mr Fixer, knowing everyone and escorting us on all the best walks. Their 'Boys' Rocky and Scrappy are always on hand to welcome and entertain. The views of the surrounding mountains and terraced groves of Olive trees are stunning. The endless deep blue sky surrounds all and extends down the valley to merge seamlessly with the distant Mediterranean Sea. This really is a comfortable home-from-home. We are missing it already and planning our return later this year.

Relaxing weekend!

Had a great weekend at Moore Than Walks! Sue and Barrie are awesome at making you feel at home. The " boys " Rocky and Scraps always give you a warm welcome when you arrive. My girlfriend and I stayed in the cabin which is comfortable and cozy in the evenings. Sue's cooking is out of this world and Barrie is a great entertainer, we spent a lot of time playing guitar and talking about music :) All in all, Moore Than Walks is one of the best weekend breaks we have ever had and we're looking forward to booking a full week or two next year!

morning walk

My wife and I had a lovely walk in the mountains with the excellent guide, Pete. Stunning scenery all around and not too challenging, though think we were on an easy walk, but lots to choose from! Very relaxing and rewarding!!

Cycling holiday

12 out of 5 says it all. Great accommodation, great food and great hosts. Sue and Barrie can't do enough for you. I highly recommend this for a great walking or cycling destination. # moorethanwalks. See you again next year and don't forget the sticky toffee pudding again Sue.

More beautiful mountain walks

On my 4th visit I I took part in more wonderful walks with breathtaking views! Our group managed all the walks well and we were rewarded with excellent dinners afterwards. Barrie is a great leader and Sue a superb cook! Also we saw interesting cultural events, so again it was a super holiday and we will certainly come again!

Third visit

Sue and Barry make you feel so welcome, their knowledge of the area is most helpful. Sue's food is to die for and Barrie (matilda) is a good waiter Ha Ha but his walking trips are brilliant they both make your stay truly memorable. thanks again for a great holiday.

Holiday Heaven

We have just returned from a 10 day holiday from Barrie, Sue and the boys !! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel at home. The accommodation is first class, the view is breathtaking, Sue's cooking is superb and plentiful. We were thoroughly spoilt with their hospitality. The location is so peaceful and ideal for a family break, we are definitely coming back!!! It is definitely " Moore than walks! "

Moore Than Amazing

Moore Than Walks was a lovely holiday, we were made to feel very at home straight away with our lovely welcome. The rooms were first class, kept tidy and looks nice. The food was delicious, I recommend the fish crumble, and the breakfasts were lovely eating with a beautiful view. We used the home not for walking, but to explore the Spanish life with lovely help from Barrie and Sue. Barrie was an excellent guide and took us to the best places. Me and my friend were lucky enough to visit during the end of august where there was a fiesta in the village, it was a different experiance, dancing in the square till the morning. I would recommend this accommodation because its high quality and I am looking forward to the planned plunge pool on my next visit.

Different impressions

A third fabulous visit to " Moore than Walks " at Sue and Barrie's with more and different impressions! The weather was hot, the walks more challenging and the scenery more magnificent than ever! Before the holiday I had suffered severe backpain, but after a few days of walking I felt really well again. We came with 6 friends having different levels of experience. But Barrie helped each of us to achieve what we had aimed for and Sue's fantastic cooking helped us to maintain our strength and happiness! This was one of my best holidays!

Home from Home

We have just returned from 10 days with Barrie, Sue and the 'Boys'. Absolutely first class, it was my first visit and we were made to feel like part of the family from the very first minute of the trip. The accomodation is first class and Sue's cooking to die for. Barrie has a non stop stream of tales and jokes that have you in stitches, and a dry sense of humour to go with it. The boys, dogs Rocky and Scrappy are are star turn very loveable. Will definitely be going back soon for walking soon. Andrew and Sarah Johnson

Moore Than Fabulous

A lovely weekend in the company of Sue & Barrie. We stayed in the cabin, which has a fully equipped bathroom, tea & coffee making facilities, and the bowl of fresh fruit was a lovely touch. Delicious breakfasts on the terrace freshly cooked by Sue. Barrie took us on 2 guided walks - a shorter one accompanied by Rocky & Scrappy, and a longer 11km walk round Lake Guadalest. All in all a very delightful time, with beautiful scenery and great company.

Perfect base camp for cycling

Right from being picked up from the airport by Barrie and Sue you just knew you were in great hands. The views are fantastic from the lodge and is a great place to relax and unwind after a hard days cycling supported by Barrie with water and fuel if required. Sue's cooking is truly amazing and is totally flexible with the timings of meals and catering for any dietary needs; the chocolate cake with chocolate sauce and ice cream is a must!! The area is perfect for finding your mountain legs on your bike with some great climbs and long winding descents on smooth quiet roads. Just be aware of the final ramp up to the Villa; its a killer! Great challenge though for those of you on Strava!

perfect place for a cycling camp

A superb location for a group of cyclists to base themselves in a tranquil setting. Barrie collected us from the airport and took us up to the Villa with bikes (after dropping me at the Meta Bike Cafe in Albir to hire mine and cycle up). Sue then proceeded to ensure we were fuelled and refuelled for the fantastic riding that we enjoyed in the hills. The hosts couldn't do enough for us and were great company. Sleeping in the cabin is a joy, with views across the valley when waking up in the morning!!After a hot day on the road, this is the perfect setting to chill out on a sun lounger with a cold one and relax. At the end of the stay, barrie ensured we all, reluctantly, got back to the airport in good time for the flight home. Would i come back here..... am already planning it... thanks for looking after us so well... x

Gorgeous Setting and Fabulous Hosts

Our stay at Moore Than Walks was the highlight of our trip to Europe! We stayed at B & Bs throughout France and Spain, and this was by far our favorite spot! In fact, we're planning a trip to Europe again in the spring, and a prime objective is to return to this lovely site! Sue cooked unmatchable meals, and Barrie entertained us with great stories and lots of laughter. We quickly began to think of our hosts as good friends, and can't wait to see them again! All this good cheer is set in the most beautiful of settings! Breathtaking views, that changed regularly with the light, greeted us each morning and welcomed us home each evening! If you have a choice, don't miss this outstanding B & B!

I had to come again !

Once again I spent a superb week at " Moore than Walks " and I enjoyed it even moore than the first time! You cannot forget the wonderful hosts, great food and cosy accommodation, lovely walks and above all the magnificent scenery, the glorious mountains! This time I came with another two friends, who too fell in love with this place, people and animals and were also inspired to practise their Tai Chi and meditation with full view of the mountains! Now we look forward to our next visit, which is already booked for following year!

Close to Heaven

Due to its amazing location and by the wonderful experience we had Moore Than Walks was definitely 'Close to Heaven'. This was our first trip to Spain and we had travelled all the way from Australia. Never could we have been prepared for what greeted us. Boasting spectacular views throughout the region this gorgeous little B & B is perched atop a small mountain and looks right out over the whole valley. Our hosts Barrie and Sue (and not to forget Scrappy & Rocky) made us feel completely at home the whole time we were there and their knowledge of the local area seemed endless. Friends told us about this wonderful little B & B hidden in the mountains outside of Alicante and we are so grateful to them for doing so. What we did not know was that not only does this wonderful little B & B boast spectacular views and warm and caring hospitality but also that Barrie holds both hosted and non hosted walks throughout the region. Either taking you along on a small adventure and explaining all the local knowledge or just pointing you in the right direction and providing the needed knowledge to ensure your safe return Moore Than Walks totally lives up to its name. We discovered that this area of Spain has some awesome sights hidden away and only by walking can you find some of them Barrie has spent years working out routes to take to ensure a special time for anyone wanting to wander through the region. Then upon your return Sue is on hand at all times to ensure a healthy appetite never goes hungry and her cooking was always fabulous. She also boasts the most amazing 'Sangria' you will ever try and after the first glass I was totally in agreement. Moore Than Walks was definitely a highlight of our European trip and we have no doubt we will return to this wonderful little piece of paradise hidden in the mountains outside Alicante. Thank you again Barry and Sue for your lovely hospitality and for the fond memories we will always cherish. Chris and Greg from Brisbane Australia. P. S. Oh and You must visit Guadalest if at all possible.. STUNNING!

Excellant

Our trip to Spain to visit moorethanwalks was recommended by some friends who had visited. The hosts, Barrie and sue were so friendly and the service was second to none, I would thoroughly recommend a visit for anyone wanting a different holiday, the fortnight s menus, was first class and the scenery was spectacular. Anthony, Gold Coast, australia

Our third visit!

This was our third visit to the area & yet again Barrie, Sue, Scrappy & Rocky made us as welcome as ever. The weather was perfect, the food was divine, the accommodation 5* & the company was second to none. I can't recommend Moorethanwalks enough. I would also advise a trip to Guadalest. I won't ruin it by telling you what's there, but it's well worth going to the top! Thank you again for making our stay so memorable & we will see you again next year. :D

Home from Home - with sunshine

On arrival, we were immediately made to feel at home after a great welcome from Sue and Barrie. We stayed in their comfortable cabin for a week from which we had stunning picture-postcard views of the mountain scenery. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble for our hosts and they were happy to go that extra mile to make our stay so memorable. Incidentally, Sue's cooking is to die for! Barrie is very knowledgeable about the area and also an accomplished musician - so persuade him to get out his guitar and sing you a few songs over a bottle or two of local wine.

Wonderful walking experience

I spent a week with 2 friends at Moore Than Walks with Sue and Barrie, which was a wonderful experience. The cabin was very comfortable, the food served by Sue excellent and the walks with walking leader Barrie gentle and lovely in a a stunning mountain environment. We were sad to leave and will come back soon.

Another great part of Spain discovered!

We spent all of last week with Sue and Barrie staying in the cabin which was very comfortable. The weather was glorious; the views amazing and it was all topped off by Sue and Barrie's great hospitality. We shared four lovely evening meals with them beautifully cooked by Sue and accompanied by some very nice wine. We did three walks in the area but our favourite was the one BArrie accompanied us on - the monastary walk - truly amazing views. We explored the coastal towns and enjoyed the mountain drives. Our favourite town was Altea. We came back feeling very relaxed. P. S. Sue and Barrie were concerned as I am not an animal lover but Scrappy and Rocky soon learned to ignore us so please don't let the presence of dogs put anyone off visiting this great couple for a wonderful holiday.

2012-10-10 14:13:41

great views

Our first visit to the area Sue and Barrie were fantastic hosts, the food was excellent, the walks covered all abilities, the cabin we stayed in was very spacious, the area around there place was beautiful, the views from their garden was breath taking all in all the holiday was great. We also loved the two dogs rocky and scrappy so much fun. Will definitely go again. Joyce and Ray

The perfect holiday location

We have just returned from a glorious week at Moore Than Walks. Sue, Barrie and their dogs Scrappy & Rocky made us feel so at home it was just like visiting old friends. The cabin is spacious and comfortable and the views just stunning! It is the perfect place to relax. We were more " strollers " than " walkers " but Barrie was happy to accomodate us at our pace on a couple of guided walks. The food, home cooked by Sue, was excellent and we had no motivation to go looking anywhere else for our evening meal. We would definitely like to return.

Many Happy Returns (The Mad Hatters)

If you want peace and tranquility you can have it. If you want privacy you can have it. If you enjoy company you can have it. If fun and festivity is for you it can be arranged. If you want to be active or simply relax with a good book you could not find a better place. If you are a lover of good food you can enjoy it in abundance. The scenery is stunning and its home from home! The accommodation, whether in the en-suite rooms in the house or in the Log Cabin, is excellent - clean, comfortable and cosy. You could not wish for better. It sits on its own plot just outside Confrides - just far enough away from neighbours so as not to have to worry about annoying them should you be partying! Please don't tell everyone about it - its a very special place and we need to be able to return again and again

Fantastic Holiday

Sue & Barrie made us feel more like old friends than newly arrived guests. The wood cabin we stayed in was lovely and so different from the normal places you stay in when you are on holiday. The home cooked food was excellent. Barrie's knowledge of the area was great so we were able to do some of the walks he recommended. It is superb for walking and hopefully when we return I will be looking to hire a bike as the roads are excellent for some mountain training. There are some lovely villages nearby and the scenery is stunning. We had a lovely chilled out time and really felt we had a relaxing holiday. Will return again, hopefully sooner rather than later.

2011-10-16 02:55:35

Highly recommended!

We stayed with Barrie and Sue in October 2011, and had a wonderful holiday. Both could not have been more friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We were made to feel more like friends than guests, and Sues cooking was fabulous. For those interested in walking, the area is superb. Beautiful walks through amazing countryside and its so peaceful. Barrie always willing to pass on his knowledge, and will supply directions for a wonderful walk. We will return!

2011-09-11 13:48:40

Amazing

Absolutely amazing place to stay. The views are breathtaking and Sue & Barrie make it even better. Amazing home cooked food and cosy accommodation. The surrounding villages are beautiful and the reservoir is idyllic. Such friendly hosts and very relaxing holiday. Cant' wait to come back! x

A little bit of heaven in the mountains!

My fiance and I stayed for 5 days at Moore than Walks Bed and Breakfast the beginning of August. The views were breathtaking, the food excellent and the welcome, comfort and service superb. Barrie and Sue are wonderful hosts and we will be sure to return again.

One word says it all " Stunning "

Stayed with Sue and Barrie for 1 night, and words cannot describe the scenery, hospitality or the experience we had. We took our 4 year old daughter with us, and spent a great time exploring the nearby Mountains and towns like Guadalest. She loved it and at no time was bored. Great food, great accomodation and above all great company, we were made to feel like a member of the family. Hoping to come back next year to go on a few guided walks as Barrie really knows his stuff. Thank you both for a wonderful time.

2011-08-17 07:16:48

We keep returning

We have been visiting Sue and Barrie at " Moore Than Walks " every year now for the last five years so that must say something about them and the wonderful holiday experience they provide. A warm, friendly atmoshere and delicious home cooked food add to the picturesque surroundings making it one of our favourite holiday destinations! Brian & Beverly Utting

WILL DEFINITELY RETURN

What a Wonderful Experience. So many Things To Do. Walking, Biking, Climbing, etc. etc. Or Just Totally Relaxing, In The Wonderful Scenery. Sue and Barrie, are the perfect hosts, and make your stay memorable, you must try the home cooked food. Everything is so relaxing, in the enviroment.

2010-09-14 10:44:08

PURE HEAVEN

This is the second time we have stayed here. Barrie and Sue are the perfect hosts at this small private retreat nearly 3000ft up at the head of the Aitana valley on the outskirts of Confrides village in Spain. If you want a bustling venue with plenty of night life forget it. If you want fabulous scenery, great hosts, lovely accomodation (either in the cabin or the house), great home cooked food and drink made with local produce and somewhere to either relax or use as a base for walking etc.... this is it! Having spent a fair bit of time in this valley we believe that this is the best area and place to stay by far. If you do not want to eat in every night then there are plenty of local restaurants to choose from offering everything from tapas to paellas. Although it was stil very hot we managed to walk up to and explore Confrides Castle and walk around Guadalest resevoir. As Arnie says.... We'll be back! Thanks for a wonderful 5 days barrie and Sue Regards ANDY & DEB (Cheshire - UK)

2010-08-17 16:35:58

Perfect hosts

We stayed at Moorethanwalks for 2 weeks and Sue and Barrie are perfect hosts and did everything possible to make our holiday special ! We most enjoyed the 'music evenings' with all their friends. It is certainly something special and different.

2010-06-29 16:38:44

what more could you want

This was something a bit different for us, I would not describe myself as a walker, but really enjoyed this holiday. Sue and Barrie are very welcoming and their knowledge of the area will help you get the best out of this holiday. The cabin accomodation we stayed in was excellent, with plenty of space and has stunning views accross the valley from it's own private seating area, Breakfast was a good choice, well cooked and with nice touches such as local preserves in attractive decorated pots. We also had some evening meals cooked by Sue which were excellent, but don't miss the chance to eat out in some of the local moorish towns which are very attractive and have a great night atmoshere. There is plenty to do, sight seeing trips as well as walks, and plenty of choice to suit all levels of ability.
