This Filipino restaurant hits the spot!
I may sound biased as I worked for them with the original owners, but after they changed ownership, the quality of food, especially the famous Pork BBQ sticks and other Filipino dishes, remained top quality! Their rice plates with various entrees will not stretch your budget, and the friendly staff makes sure you're part of the family. Their tocino and longanisa sausage dishes are a must try too! I visit everytime I can!
Quick Bite
I was shopping next door at Bed, Bath & Beyond - saw Manila express. Had some doubts since it's in a mini-mall. But, was I surprised. I had the pansit - yummy!
A Favorite With Filipino Diners!
While I am not from the Philippines, I've lived in the Daly City area, a San Francisco suburb for over 30 years - an enclave of the Philippine community. This little restaurant has been there for 20 of those years & I wasn't even aware of it! Recently, when I told someone i was dining at the Chinese restaurant in the same shopping center, she said, " You MUST try Manila Express - they have the best barbecue around! " I went the very next day. Ateh Dita, the owner was expecting me. My friend had told her I would be stopping by. She was so welcoming. I was familiar with Pinoy food, thanks to years of working with nurses from the Philippines who always made our hospital potlucks special. I couldn't resist ordering the most expensive thing on the menu - a combo for $14.95 - with four skewers of barbecue of your choice, lumpia, rice, pansit and adobo. I chose two beef, a pork and a chicken. It was all so good. I was absolutely stuffed. Cash only is the order of the day and you make your selection at the counter, then pick it up when called. There are daily specials and many other menu choices. I think I was the only non-Filipino the day I went. This is definitely not an intimate romantic dining spot but the food is good and the beautiful orchids in bloom are a nice touch. Now I alternate between Manila Express and having dim sum at the Chinese restaurant.
