An Italian Gem on the Shoreline!!!
This is a restaurant you will want to return to again and again!!! As an Italian grandmother, I am fussy about my sauce and Italian dishes. Log Cabin is amazing!! Their tomato sauce is terrific, just enough spices. The veal is tender and yummy!! And the eggplant parm is mouthwatering. Their pork chops are cooked to perfection, with a tangy brown sauce and hot peppers... and the portion sizes on everything are beyond belief!!! On Friday and Saturdays, they have a prime rib special that is delectable. And the specials in general are delicious. I have not had the seafood there, but friends have said the fried Captain's platter is tasty and plentiful. The appetizers are a meal in themselves. I recommend the sausage and broccoli rabe or the potato skins stuffed with chili, or if you're lucky enough to be there when the chef is making fried dough, don't miss it!! Meals come with a large salad (try the gorgonzola dressing!!) and a huge bowl of penne with their signature marinara sauce... ask for a side of ricotta if you like. The regular staff are friendly and attentive, and the chef, Russ, is phenomenal!! During the season, lines can be long, so be prepared for a wait, or come off peak hours. Definitely worth the wait!! Off season they are only open Thursday-Sunday for lunch and dinner. This is truly an Italian Gem on the Shoreline in Clinton!! But worth a trip from anywhere!!!
Ummm…yes!
First time here and it was superb. The food was amazing. Place your order for entrees and you then are served a huge bowl of penne with red sauce, family style. I mean, who does that? Especially now when it is all about the bottom line. The portion sizes of our meals were so generous. Plenty of leftovers for days to come. This is a bustling place that keeps the waitstaff on their toes. They do such a wonderful job being charmingly informative and just attentive enough. No need to rush as you are more than welcome to linger while enjoying the food as well as the ambience. Plenty of parking. Yes. Go here.
Very friendly fast service and Great food
Great experience starting with a free family size pasta more than enough for the four of us took the rest home We had very friendly fast service Highly recommend
Poor Quality
I went on my birthday 7 / 30 / 2023. My son took me out 68 years old and I wanted to try the restaurant I want to head off everyone and whoever I meet I will tell them as well. The restaurant is not worth the money I didn't even get a candle in my birthday cake the lobsters twin lobsters they were baby lobsters. I didn't even think they could sell them that small,. it was not worth the money they give you pasta, but anybody could put a can of sauce on the pasta. I will never return there again. The food wasn't even worth taking home.
A Must Stop! You will not leave dissapointed
Such a great find! Extremely friendly staff Libby our waitress was very attentive BUT let me tell you the food is Amazing - portions are huge and full of flavor! We will be back!
Not worth the wait
We waited an hour to be seated. The hostess was rushed & not pleasant. We had no idea our meals came with a mixing bowl full of pasta that was probably 8-10 servings large. The theme seems to be quantity over quality & the portions are grotesque. The shrimp weren't fresh & the entrees were just ok. Our waitress never bothered to tell us about drink or dinner specials & when she plunked the check down on the table I guess my surprised look made her ask if we wanted dessert. I told her I hadn't seen any desserts on the menu & she didn't mention any so we paid & left. There are such outstanding Italian restaurants nearby & fresh seafood too that I can't imagine we'll ever go back.
Warning... No Breakfast Necessary :)
Wow!! We haven't been here in over 10 years but I have to say it was FANTASTIC!! The place itself has a log cabin look to it which I loved. Inside seating there are not that many tables. Maybe there were more outside but we didn't see any. They had an appetizer special that day of Crabmeat Stuffed Mushrooms. We started with that. Really delicious. There were four of us and it was plenty. Then came the bowl of ziti for the table--Whoa! So tasty. There was no way we could finish that so we were able to wrap that up to take home. Then our meals came--I got a really good veal francese which I ordered some mashed potatoes as a side. Once again, took those home as well. Other dishes ordered were baked scrod which was good also and a good size portion, Veal Romano which was my other choice and that was good too and also--a rack of ribs--huge portion with French fries. All excellent choices. We will definitely be going back there. Log Cabin, keep up the good work!!
So much food!!!
We had a wonderful dinner here!! We all really enjoyed our meals and the portions are huge. We left with so much food to bring home. Cant wait to return.
Eager to return - what else is great
Lunch choices were all enticing but I decided on Cajun Chicken Caesar Salad. Chopped romaine, crisp croutons, a sliced freshly grilled chicken breast and a generous amount of dressing. An enormous portion but I just had to finish it because it was so good. Staff were pleasant and efficient.
My birthday dinner
It was my birthday and friends took me to the Log Cabin. They heard good reviews - so we went there. I have to say - we were all very glad that we did go there. The waitstaff was very friendly. The food was delicious and we all brought home leftovers- because they certainly don't skimp on their portions. We are definitely going back again soon. When we left - there were ppl standing in line - outside waiting to get in.
Best of the CT Shoreline!
We've been coming to The Log Cabin for years and it has always been a favorite! Their food is excellent, abundant and served by an incredible wait staff. Kudos to Emma who made our experience even better this evening! She is a " rock star! "
If I could give a higher rating I would
Randomly selected this spot when looking for restaurants. Absolutely unbelievable. The wait staff was super friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. May have been the largest portions of food I've ever been served. Well worth the price. 12 / 10, if you live in CT this place is a must try.
Friendly staff, very large portions, low prices
Probably best to go with at least 4 people and then order 2 dinners!! Must get the stuffed mushrooms first as an app. Food was not exactly gourmet but at least as good as most. EVERYONE goes home with a doggie bag!! It is kinda fun for a first time visitor!! Large enough menu selection to keep everyone happy.
Great Sunday Dinner
Didn't think that anyone would be going out to eat dinner at 3:00 p. m. on a Sunday afternoon. Boy, was I wrong. The Log Cabin is so good that it's always busy. This shouldn't stop you from going there. Even if you have to wait a while, it's worth it. As always you get your fresh bread and butter, bowl of pasta, and salad. I ordered the eggplant parmesan. I make a very good eggplant parmesan and have never had it as good at any restaurant. Well, this is as good as mine if not better. My husband ordered the BBQ ribs. They were falling off the bone good. Left there with 3 boxes of leftovers. Such a great restaurant. Don't miss an opportunity to go there. Well worth it.
31 dicembre 2021: pranzo perfetto
Superbo.
4 / 16 / 21 1ST INSIDE DINING SINCE COVID-19
4 / 16 / 21 my wife & i dined in for the 1st time since march 2020 and could not believe the neglect by the wait staff re: sanitation. the hostess kept reusing the same palm size rag from a paint bucket filled with water that sat at the bar to wipe every table with over and over again. also, never wash or sanitize her hands while continuing to clear & sit & set each table for people. then even taking peoples leftovers and touching their food with her hands to package it then wiping hands on her pant legs over & over again. we could not stay and touch our entrees after i told my waitress about this, all she did was have her change the water in the bucket & continued to do the same thing. plus not 1 bottle of sanitizer anywhere from the front door to the kitchen or waitress station. have gone there for 38 years and now, never..... i even called to tell the owner while driving home since they would not let me talk to him while we were there, freds only response was i already talked to the girl to retrain her...... never even suggesting for us to see what he could do for our experience which shows he leads by example
Food was outstanding.... more than enough to eat.. plenty to take home
Great Place! We were surprised on the quanitity of food plus the pasta dish was enough to feed 4 people....
Talk about value
Wonderful atmosphere. Such great value for the money. Portions are very large (we all ended up only able to eat half of the meal and took the rest home.. truly 2 meals worth) ! Every meal was terrific. And fun, friendly servers. We will be back!
Very good but don't be in a hurry
The food portions were very large. You can see in the picture just how large the pasta serving was. This is the same pasta they bring with most of the entrees whether it is a table of one or 20. I had the veal. It could have been more tender, especially since the menu states that it is very tender. I still only needed a fork to cut though so it wasn't bad. I decided to splurge and had the chocolate peanut pie for desert. That was heaven!! Overall the food was good and the atmosphere quiet and relaxing, especially with the fir going. The only negative was the speed of service. I had to ask twice for my drink refill and for my tea to go. The staff was moving quickly so I can only imagine that they just need more staff. I'll be back.
Recommended by a friend who
Recommended by a friend who told me great food. Odd cabin feel to be an Italian place. App was fried mozzarella sticks. Very good large and fresh cooked. Daughter had fried shrimp platter. The shrimp tasted as if they were defrosted in water then deep fried. Hubbins has chix Alfredo. Sauce was to thick. I loved the HUGE pasta bowl that comes to the table. I had chix parm. Very fresh no salt in the batter. Tried it but won't be back. No fresh homemade pasta.
Delicious food, good service
If you want a treat, order the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer (enough for a meal). Eggplant parm is favorite of ours, as arechicken parm and stuffed shrimp. We don't eat much pasta, so we like that they'll substitute steamed broccoli or spinach as sides. Visit. You won't regret it. BTW, we regularlt order the stuffed mushrooms to go!
Bring your appetite!
Large portions for freshly made Italian food. Pasta and bread to start you off is served family style. Service is friendly and professional.
Dinner
Well where do I start.. I remember going to this restaurant when they were at the old location down the street many years ago. Decided to try it again. As many have mentioned the portion here are huge! However it's too bad they don't pack it with flavor. I had the the prime rib... when it came out it looked like something Fred Flintstones would eat, huge. But what good is it if there is no tenderness or flavor to the meat. That bowl of pasta they give you was also huge for 2 people. But no salt was added during cooking.... I guess if your into stuffing yourself with tasteless food this is your place, you will not eat all they give you. Would I go here again... I don't think so. I am at the age that I want to enjoy the food I PAY for... not be one that goes there cuz they give you a ton of food. The waite staff was good for sure. Like anything else your mileage may vary.
Plenty of food!
This restaurant was recommended by someone from Water's Edge. I ordered the seafood platter which was fried and cooked fabulously. There was enough fish for four people. My husband had the stuffed lobster tails with crabmeat. He said they were delicious. they served a salad first and a large bowl of ziti. The sauce was very tasty. We took that home and ate the leftovers at another meal. I actually gave the rest of the fish to the person who recommended the restaurant. We were going home soon and I didn't want to drive with it unrefrigerated. Server was very friendly and efficient. Can't believe we never knew about this place. Will definitely go back next year.
Wonderful Restaurant
We met friends here who are traveling in the area, and we are familiar with the great food here. Our server Nancy and the Hostess were wonderful. I had the Veal Park plate. My buddy had the Veal Parm. Grinder. Both wives had the scallops. My dinner was served with a huge bowl of Ziti with " gravy " (for Italians, for all others it's called sauce.) The meals were fabulous and we shall return.
Too good to be true!
My fam and I came here for dinner and were very suprised at how much food we got for the price payed. We had so much leftovers and the servers were so amazingly kind.
Go HUNGRY or don't go at all
Imagine our surprize when the Log Cabin turned out to be an Italian restaut. The food is fantastic and they pile it on. We had the salad, which was served to share in a large bowl. Next came a bowl of ziti and sauce. We didn't order this it came with the meal. Then the entrees catook our leftovers home and got three more meals out of the. GOme out. I had the eggplant chicken parmesan. This was three large, thick slices of eggplant over cheese and chicken, smothered in a delicious sauce. I asked the server if anyone ever finished all of the food. She said, " People who come here a lot know to order less and share. " We had enough leftover for three more meals. GO!
Good Food
Restaurant and bar. The food was excellent. Large portions. They also serve a big bowl of pasta with sauce before the meal. Bring your appetite! Our waitress was very friendly and efficient. I would definitely go back to eat here.
You can't go wrong here!
I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal there. Everything is good. Portions are great and service is great! You can't go wrong. Guarantee you will be taking some food home!😊
Excels in all areas
Customer service and food is amazing. There portions are huge so 2-3 people can easily share one meal. I love that they saran wrap your containers of leftovers so there are no messy surprises when you get home.
Birthday lunch or dinner
My daughter and I stopped for dinner on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant wasn't to crowded and we were seated immediately. we had Rosie as our waitress, she must have thought we were crazy because we ordered three appetizers, garlic bread and each had a dinner. By the time all our food was delivered we had no room left on our table. The portions are huge, the bowl of pasta that they bring as family style could have fed four people. The people around us were laughing because of all the food we had. It was the first time for my daughter and I hadn't been there in years so I forgot that the portion were so big. Rosie was such a great waitress she packed everything up so we could take it home. We had a lot of laughs and said we would be back. thanks again Rosie
Outstanding in all respects
We have been to this restaurant several times and have never been disappointed. This restaurant is welcoming, honestly friendly and the wait staff is attentive. Our waitress last night was Jennifer. She handled us grey hairs quite nicely. The portions are huge. And, they expect " take home " packages. Pricing is incredibly reasonable. I would move in if they had apartments!
Predictably excellent food everytime
We have been going to the Log Cabin for many years. Their formula has stayed the same, very friendly staff, really delicious food, and surprisingly modest prices for what you get. After a full dinner just about everyone takes home enough for another dinner at home. My only reluctance to provide such a high rating is that this place already has waiting lines so you have to get there early.
Come Hungry
Open family atmosphere with very large portions that are delicious! My family and friends love this place.
What a nice restaurant!!!!
Just driving through Clinton CT and stopped in to eat a this cute little place for lunch... Awesome!!!! I had the Log Cabin Salad... easily enough for two people.... very fresh, great presentation.
A Friday night out
Recommended from a friend from work. It was a great place to eat. We had an appetizer which was the fried mozzarella. It was fantastic. We ordered the chicken Jennifer and the scrod Florentine it was an excellent meal. There was plenty of food to bring home. We'll never know what the deserts are like cuz we left so full from dinner. I would recommend this to anyone.
Wonderful experience and Great Food
Went to the Log Cabin on a recommendation and it more than lived up to the hype. The Food was on point, no issues at all. Love the family style pasta for the table. Great overall experience, we will definitely be back!
Excellent
Had the pork chops Doral, 3 center cut chops about 8oz each with peppers, onions and potatoes. Excellent. Nice fresh salad and a big bowl of pasta. Service was spot on. I will be back.
Parker says " Great food in a cozy atmosphere. " And lots of it. "
This is a great place in an actual log cabin. Eat in the bar if you can, it's much more intimate than the main dining room. We went for lunch but I hear that dinner is excellent and plentiful!!! Every lunch table had 'doggie bags' on them, so they must really load you up on food. They really know how to make a grinder and a sandwich for sure, and their fries are the best anywhere. Chicken parm grinder was loaded with chicken, nice (homemade tasting) sauce and just the right amount of cheese. Service was a bit slow, especially considering that there were only a few people there at the time. But incredibly friendly. I can't wait to go back.
Thanks to a gift card
This is not our typical dining night out. A shore line log cabin? and typically if we want pasta we make it ourselves. We tried it because the dog next door was nice enough to give us a gift card for pet sitting him. The down sides: busy, crowded, noisy on a Saturday night (no surprise). Hostess did not make a good first impression at all. You could say stressed and busy, but isn't that all the time? The up sides: loved our waitress, lucked out with great window seat in the bar, and excellent food, a seafood pasta dish from the specials menu, and perfectly cooked tender veal. The leftovers covered another dinner at home, as well as a couple lunches. Two meals and bottle of delicious Chianti was $74. Will be back with pasta loving adult children.
You get your monies worth!!
You get a lot of food here. The staff was friendly and you can see customers are happy. I ordered the fried shrimp platter " Huge Serving " this came with fries, bread, salad and pasta. Nobody leaves empty handed. Go for yourself, you won't be disappointed!
Mega Mangia
My partner and I went to the Log Cabin in prime time on a Saturday evening. We were about to leave when our name was called. We had a lovely table for two in the bar. The portions, as everyone notes are huge. No appetizers needed here. The pasta bowl with the meal was big and very good. We had a seafood pasta dish and veal francese. Both were excellent to accompany our bottle of Chianti. We had plenty of leftovers and totally enjoyed or meal The bill was about $74. We recommend the Log Cabin and plan to bring family back!
Awesome place for lunch or dinner
Just finished lunch at the Log Cabin. Truly amazing. Our server, Mirian, was also the bartender. Terrific frozen mudslides. The meal was fantastic, from the appetizers to the entrees. Service was fast and friendly. We had the veal parm and the sirloin steak, very good! I would highly recommend the Log Cabin. We have been going there for years and have never been disappointed.
Large servings and friendly service
We had a very enjoyable lunch. The restaurant is very rustic and charming. The have a nice menu-salads, sandwiches, burgers, appetizers, grinders, pasta dishes, seafood and beef dishes. They also have a full bar. I had a salad with grilled chicken. It was very fresh and a generous serving. My husband had a grilled chicken parm grinder with fries. Everything was fresh and tasty. We also had friendly service.
Nice dinner in a cool location
They give you large bowl of pasta with your meal and get to take rest of it home. Wife have veal that we also took home and had enough for two more meals! Had appetizers that were very good.
Make sure you come hungry!
You'll never leave here hungry that's for sure. Dinners are served with a salad and non pasta dinners are served with a large family sized bowl of ziti and sauce. Warm bread is included. And your entrees are enough for more then one meal, love leftovers! With all that said, the food is consistent and always good. The only down side is the size of the dinning room is kind of cramped. But with us all trying to stretch our dollars, this is absolutely a good bet. We generally end up with $75 bill but when we get 3 meals out of one I'm not complaining.
Great service, Awesome Food & Huge Servings!
Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. We were delightfully surprised with the extremely large servings. Our meals included generously sized salad bowls and a basket of bread. We had leftovers of the pasta (they gave us a bowl for table of two) and entrees (could have easily fed two or three). The Chicken Jennifer was a great light wine summertime sauce. The chicken parmigiana and pasta had a solid tomato sauce. The tables around us ordered various appetizers and all arrived with plenty to share for 4+ guests!!
very good and Plenty!
We have been there many times now. After the first 2 times, we now realize the dinners are so large, we decided to start sharing a dinner, just so we dont eat leftovers for the next 3 meals. Cant beat the value. Pasta is always al dente. Their fried seafood platter is our family's most popular order. But we have enjoyed many other dishes as well. They have all been very good. You will not be disappointed. Service has always been pleasant too. We will be back again.
Log Cabin Restaurant
Have been eating at the Log Cabin Restaurant for over 40 years. Forty years of excellent Italian food. Always some to bring home. Be aware as each meal starts with a large bowl of Pasta with their homemade sauce. Easy to fill up with pasta and bread before the salad and entrée. Never have made it to desert! Prices are very fare for the size of the meal. Ample free parking so enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.
July 4th dinner
While other restaurants closed on this mid week holiday, this one rocked it. Waitress was amazing, cocktails delicious. Sirloin steaks amazing and best baked potato ever. A course of pasta for two (one with a gluten allergy) was enormous! People left with more leftovers than they ate! Service great, prices very reasonable and food quality... it's all good!
Excellent service for a family with a toddler!
I ate lunch at this restaurant with my father and my two year old daughter. The server definitely had experience with children because she immediately brought over a kid's cup, started us out with some bread, and had all the right instincts with her. The food was delicious (I had clam sauce and my father had a meatball grinder) and the portions were huge. The restaurant is clean and everyone is very nice.
We'll be back!
Went with family for Father's Day. Have never seen such quantity that ALSO was of excellent quality! Everything we ordered was perfect and plenty of leftovers to enjoy later. A new family favorite.
Fathers Birthday
The main problem with this restaurant is the amount of food. Make sure you come with a appetite. I guarentee you will go home with leftovers. Checked the pictures out. The cake we brought in from lucibello's in New Haven.
Gem of a restaurant
Great little place! Salads are yummy with the house gorgonzola vinaigrette dressing. The family style pasta is the bomb! Then your meal we had the baked stuffed shrimp, chicken jennifer and baked scrod all were out of this world we were tasting each others to see which one was the best, all were!!! The bread comes out HOT and delicious. Would recommend this nice quaint casual dining spot to everyone. One warning you will have left overs for at least two days!!!
Great Bruschetta, Excellent Service
This is the first visit and stopped for a light dinner. Was amazed when entering this Rustic Log Cabin that it is an Italian restaurant that looks like it should be your typical seafood restaurant with a colonial Flair. When presented with a menu, you know that it's an Italian restaurant since there are so many pasta dishes to choose from. Ordered the clam chowder, but with the recommendation of my server switched to the lobster bisque. She recommended the bruschetta to go with the bisque. The food was served promptly and my server was correct, the lobster bisque was excellent, but the bruschetta was fantastic. A large bowl of crispy Italian bread covered with fresh tomatoes, garlic, Olive oil, and mozzarella balls. This was absolutely delicious, flavorful, and plentiful enough to share. The quality of the food in this modest restaurant could easily be found in a much more upscale setting. The check came to about $21 with the bisque, hot tea, bruschetta, and tax. This restaurant has a full bar and plenty of parking close to the building.
Bad food
Lots of food that has no good flavor. One dish taste like a freezer and the other was mush. We didn't even take our leftovers.
Great Restaurant
We ate here on a weeknight and it was really good. I guess they are known for their huge portions and family style type of meals. They do let you split meals. My husband and I ordered the ravioli and meatball special. (One order) The raviolis were firm and nicely cooked. The meatballs were delicious, meaty, dense and well seasoned. When the order came we both devoured it. The one plate was perfect for us both with no leftovers. We had no frig in our room so we didn't want to waste anything. We also ordered salads and everything was very fresh. The house made garlic dressing is great! Everything is served with hot bread. We even got dessert to go. The salted caramel cake was very good, as was the carrot cake. Sara our server was awesome and even recommend Christys for breakfast for famous pancakes. It was a great recommendation! I would definitely go back here!
Excellent restaurant
We go every chance we get. Excellent food and staff. Good price, s a lot of food never leave hungry. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Birthday dinner
We celebrated a family birthday with a great dinner here. French onion soup was a hit, skipped the pasta round for the soup. Seafood dinners were huge we took home more than we ate. Dinner is always good here. Service was superb. Very efficient and friendly. We will definitely be back in the near future.
Omg 😲
This place is unverifiable, the food, the ambiance, the people that work here even the customers are nice 👍🏻 Portions are huge 4 people can eat out of a pasta 🍝 dish. My friend had the veil and I had the fish 🐟, very well cooked and tasty 😋 I really recommend this place if u come hungry u will go home full. Perfect place for the Sunday dinner or lunch. Very pleased with the service and hospitality of our server Cindy great smile all the time and competent kudos to her. I will come back again for the sea food dish.
Dinner
The food is good and the atmosphere is nice. Each meal feeds three to four people so come hungry or take home a doggie bag. It's old fashioned cabin makes it feel homey.
It's a Lot of Pasta
So the place is cute but I thought the tables were a little too close but I guess when you want to pack in as many people in as possible then this is it. The portions are HUGE, again its pasta, cheap. So they should be huge. We had the Hot Anitpasto which offered a lot to split for the three of us. It included fried mozzarella, 2 clams casino, artichoke, 2 stuffed clams, stuffed mushroom, stuffed tomato and eggplant. I ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo at $19.95 (no chicken). It was okay. Add Chicken to that price and maybe it would have been worth it. My friend said her Broccoli Rabe and Sausage was amazing. She loved it so much that she went home and cooked it a few nights later. My sister had the Chicken Gorgonzola which was boneless breast sautéed with mushrooms, gorgonzola cheese, marsala wine and brown sauce. It was good she said. Over all I thought it was expensive for just pasta. I do like that they do give you a huge FREE Penne pasta to start off with. The salads that came with the meals were fresh. Service was okay but nothing outstanding.
log cabin
this place is great, we stopped for dinner on our way home from a wine tasting and was pleasantly surprised. we had to wait a little bit but no big deal. sat at the bar and had a cocktail. the bar is very nice as was our bartender. once we were seated and placed our orders the food started coming. first they brought us salad and bread. (the bread was nice and warm) then they brought out a big bowl of pasta for the table. then our dinners came out and OMG, the portions were huge. i ordered the seafood platter, shrimp, calamari, bay scallops, clam strips, whole clams, fish filet and french fries. would have been enough for 3 to 4 people, and it was delicious. i will definitely be back here very soon.
everyone's idea of good food is not the same!
My twenty something daughter was feeling down so we decided to out to lunch and do some shopping before the next snow storm came that afternoon. Off we went with my other daughter and I told them I had been wanting to visit Log Cabin because I heard so much about it and I try to visit a different place to eat on Saturday's with my daughters. So off we went assuming it would be crowded as it always is when we drive by but the parking lot was empty, so we figured great. We were seated quickly and looked around to see what others had on their tables and were shocked at the portion size of the fried seafood platters. One of my daughters ordered the seafood platter, one ordered a salad and I ordered baked fish mariners platter. My dish stated it had stuffed fish, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed clams and scallops. Well, it did have a piece of stuffed fish which was a decent size, two small mushrooms stuffed, the smallest clam I've ever seen (not even sure there was a clam in the shell). To top it off the smallest scallops I have ever seen in my life. They were like mini pearls! The stuffing was nothing great, I actually had to leave most of it on the plate. My daughter's seafood platter was not flavorful at all and the calamari was undercooked. The only good thing was my other daughters large salad! I was so amazed over the tiny size of the scallops that I took some home to show my husband! He was amazed at how small they were. Over all not impressed, would not go back there unless someone told me I we ordered the wrong things. I think all the food should be good not just a few dishes. We all walked away disappointed.
Awesome food, quick service, huge portions!
Our first trip to the Log Cabin restaurant was this past weekend for Father's Day dinner. Although the dining room was packed, our waitress promptly came to greet us, hand us menus and took our beverage order. She soon returned for our food order... really.... very attentive and friendly! We ordered the Garlic Bread Fondue for our appetizer - it was to die for!! And we both decided on their Prime Rib special - seasoned just right and tender enough to cut with a butter knife.... even my medium-well done slab. A big bowl of salad, a loaf of delicious, piping hot, crusty bread and a large bowl of pasta came with the meals. The entree order was huge!! We were watching other plates going by to other tables and that seems to be the norm - very generous portions of everything on the menu and the food tastes great! We had to leave room for dessert as the Peanut Butter Pie was calling our name.... it was delicious! Also the norm is for the wait staff to pack up leftovers for you to take home - and they even wrap the styrofoam container in plastic wrap, in case anything leaks. Practically everyone leaving after their meal had containers to take home. We are definitely returning.... maybe next month for my birthday!
Mediocre poi out place
Iy's like a throwback to the 1950s. Enormous portions of bland food. Very uninteresting. Unless you want leftovers to eat for a week, find somewhere else to dine!
The log cabin
I have been coming to this location for ten years now and it has been by far my favorite restuarant however, my past two experiences there were dreadful. I sat at the bar with a friend to eat quick then head home to beat the traffic. Due to the large portions my friend and I decided to split an appitizer and split the lobster special. When we notified the bar tender that we were splitting a meal she flipped out and began to slam cups down and began to grunt. She dropped our food off and ran away before we could ask for new forks. We attemtped to ask for bread, however we recieved back lash and she came out and basically throw a loaf of uncooked bread at us. After finally getting her attention we ask for the check. She had wrote the check and over charged us for our drinks and appetizers. I asked for a menu to check the prices and she became irate. After pointing out the correct prices she quickly changed it and ran away. We place the money for the bill and began discussing what to leave for a tip Before we were able to come up with a solution she grabbed our 2 twenty dollar bills off the bar and said " is this all your leaving " ? I was stunned and embrassed I will not be returning to my " former " favorite resturant until this women is no longer there.
This is the epitome of a tourist trap
I don't know who is writing the reviews for this place but I have a very different experience. The place is adorable from the outside. The service is pretty much diner style. The food is some of the worst i have ever had and very expensive for reheated frozen entrees or deep fried junk. I live in the area and the place is often busy but i can't imagine that people actually enjoy spending that kind of money for tasteless garbage!
gone downhill
My family has been going to the Log Cabin for years. It definitely has gone downhill. On a recent trip, there was no bread given to our table. When we asked they brought one very small loaf of 6 slices. (there were 7 of us) The bowl of pasta delivered to the table was 1 / 2 full. When we asked for more we were told we would have to pay for it. One meal was never brought, and when we complained and advised the manager we had been patrons for many years we were told " It doesn't matter how long you've been coming here " They need to change the attitude of the current wait staff. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND GOING THERE UNTIL THIS IS DONE
Loosen your belt!
Friendly service and huge portion sizes. You will not be disappointed. Great tasting food and so much of it.
BAD EXPERIENCE !!
I wouldn't give them one star!! I was told by MANAGER if didn't like it don't come back and hung up on me. Husband got food poison!! They lack customer service satisfaction for sure !! I WILL be turning them into BBB for sure!!
Oh boy I love this place!!!
I've been coming to this place since I was a kid and it has never ever changed and it is alway always amazing! The portions are crazy big and you WILL walk out with take home containers. The prime rib is second to none and the pasta sauce is by far the best pasta sauce ever! Hands down! Nothing is bad and everything about this place screams connecticut shoreline. Go here even if it costs you an arm or your first born.
HUGE portions of medicore food
If you are more into feeding than dining, and shoveling in mounds and mounds of food despite the flavor is what you desire, then this place may be something that you would like.
Quite Disappointed!
My sister and I decided to take our parents to the Log Cabin for their birthdays. Going on the recommendations of others as well as seeing some of the great reviews on here and other places, I felt I had nothing to fear. When we had arrived, we were seating right away and everything seemed good to go. Things started to go downhill after our hostess seated us. Out waitress came over and poured waters for us and passed out menus. She then proceeded to tell us that we were seated too early and that we were holding up the table. Looking around, I noticed many open tables and that there wasn't anyone waiting. When it was pointed out that her problem should be with her hostess and not us, she started to get very loud. Needless to say, we were all made to feel uncomfortable due to the fact that the fault was not ours that were were seated early. On top of that, she was just plain rude. I was floored, this was my Parents birthday!! I can understand that we all have bad days, but the tone and the unapologetic stance was uncalled for. My brother in law spoke with the manager, who, didn't seem to mind the way we were treated. We were told that if we had a problem, to take it up with our waitress. The manager had actually told him that if he was unsatisfied with that, that we shouldn't come back. At no time did my brother-in-law raise his voice and handled everything in a calm manor. Never have I been to a restaurant where the manger failed to take responsibility for their staff's actions. I've apologized to my parents that this incident should spoil their party. I can say with 100% honesty, I'll never go back to the " Log Cabin "
Are you hungry?!
If you are real hungry? Then you must go here. The portions are incredible! You cannot eat it all!! The lunch specials are enough, dinner size in most other restaurants. The pork hops are so large and they come with a huge bowl of ziti, it's for one person but could feed four! And..... It is a log cabin. Huge fireplace. Very open and airy. If you are in the area, STOP!
The management has a policy of NOT being willing to give Separate checks
The food is still good. The portions are still big. Going to this restaurant with friends is a big challenge. The management refuses to provide separate checks. They even print this at the bottom of the MENU. I may eat the most expensive things on the menu and drink more than the people I am with ---so at the end of a good meal, we have to sit around with a calculator to figure out how much my share of the bill might be. This policy also makes it difficult to pay---figuring out who owes how much deflates any positives experienced by the meal.
Overwhelming portions but good food
The addresses wrong in Trip Advisor. It is on E Main Street not Boston Post Road. We had to call for directions after out GPS took us to another town. We were warned the portions were large but were still unprepared. The entrees come with salad and pasta served before the entree as they do in Italy. By the time our main course arrived I was full. My husband ordered the short ribs and said they were excellent! I ordered the tilapia and it was very good but we have enough of each for at least another meal. They box up the leftovers and wrap it in plastic. We would go back if in the area.
Disgusting
Overpriced. Chicken entrees were $22.-$26.00. The pastas are in a bland red sauce. The decor is run down and a bit grungy. Some entrees come with a gargantuous bowl of ziti on the side (same bland red sauce).. so big that it is almost unappetizing. We were asked if we wanted to take it home, and said NO. We heard two other neighboring tables say the same thing. Steak was fatty and overcooked. Could not find waitress to tell her. Paid and left. Will not return.
Friendly, real food and big value
... because the portions are big, no, huge, The pasta starter (complimentary) was the size of our buick. The entrees were gorgeous but we had no room for them- It is obvious why this a popular local haunt, since a couple can leave their kids at home with Granma and feed everyone when they get back with their leftovers. Great prices too. And friendly waitresses who work really well together. Wanted to close earlier than we wanted it to so don't get there after 8. Chicken Jessica was brilliant.
Best little restaurant at the beach
Most travelers to the Connecticut shoreline head straight for the clam shacks. But if you are in the mind for a traditional " meat and potatoes " -type meal instead, don't pass up Log Cabin. The portions are tremendous, whether you go for one of their Italian specialties or their outstanding prime rib or baked stuffed shrimp. The prices are unbelievably reasonable considering how much food you receive - an average of $20 gets you a full meal plus a doggie bag lunch the next day. The family-style bowl of pasta that comes with every meal is an added bonus. We also love the warm, cozy " mom and pop " atmosphere and friendly service at Log Cabin. My family and I routinely travel over 25 miles just to eat here.
No better than the last meal 10 years ago
We live in the area and frequently ate at the log cabin about 10 years ago. Then the food took a serious turn for the worse. Business dropped off new owners came in and the parking lot got crowded again. So after 10 years we decided to try it again for lunch the other day. Hubby got the pot roast which was that nasty meat that's been tenderized by injecting brine into the meat had a nasty gravy on it and sat on a ginormous pile of fake potatoes. I had the stuffed shells which was okay but gravy was canned and just ok. Up side was the split pea soup and the salad. Clientele was older and seemed to be regulars that staff knew and we're friendly with. All in all we might try the place again in another 10 years but then again maybe not.
The waitress ruins everything good about this restaurant, every time!
There is one waitress who ruins the experience everytime. Probably around 50, Reddish-brown short wavy hair and a huge chip on her shoulder. Heaven forbid you ask her a question about the menu or she practically rolls her eyes. Today was the third time I've had this waitress in he past few months and it will be the last. Aside from that downer, everything else about the restaurant is great! They serve huge portions of everything, the marinara sauce is delicious, and the salads are cold and fresh. It Re Aside
Love this place!!!!!
Great place to take a group, although I do recommend making a reservation if you plan to go on a weekend. The portions are enormous for most entrees. Salad and " family style " pasta is included with all entrees. Ask for the " white olive oil & garlic " pasta if you like garlic -- It's delicious - but definitely a lot of garlic. I highly recomend Scrod Florentine and Veal Romano. Both are spectatular, and are large enough to " share ". Haven't had a meal here I didn't like.
Family style, large portions
Excellent food, wonderful waitress, unique wood atmosphere. We would go here again for sure. Order the hot antipasto and the veal Romano. Dinners come with huge bowl of ziti! Delicious!
Come Hungry
The dinner starts with a large salad which comes with all entrees. It the procceds to a large bowl of pasta served family style. Again, this comes with the meal (eccept pasta entrees). All of this is folled by entree portions large enough for two or more. Lots of people just tell their server to doggy bag the entree without even bringing it to the table. Don't forget to doggy bag the remaining pasta (and there will be plenty) the wine prices are more than low, there is a good selection of tap beers, service is good, but many too fast. The tables are a bit too close to eachother, the wait for a table can be long (no reservation), and bring a sweater in the summer because the air is overdone. By the way, the food is terrific and theprices good.
Another fond memory lost
After reading some recent reviews on the Log Cabin I decided to try it again. It has been a number of years since my last visit. My last recollections were of long wait time, good but not great food and plenty of it. I happened to be in the area in mid afternoon so I decided to go in. There were five people in the place which is not unusual for this awkward time of the day. The luncheon menu was limited and did not offer many of the specialties that they are noted for. We placed our order and waited. No complimentary pasta was provided as in years past. After what seemed an intolerable wait our waitress came out with our dinners. Much to our surprise as well as hers she neglected to bring out the soup, salads and bread normally presented prior to the entrée. She remarked that her mind was elsewhere. Mind you only five people in the restaurant and three were finished. The clam platter was just average. It appeared to be a regular sized order spread over a large dish of fries. The Clam Castle down the street in Madison is a far superior quality. The Fisherman's combination platter was only marginally better. In summation it did not live up to the hype and another fond memory has vanished.
food below average
We went for dinner, they give you a ton of food, but it was not good. I would rather go to Luigi's, get less food, but able to eat it.
Major food
Not only was the food above average, but the portions are so large - that we had two more full meals from our take-home boxes. Nice family style atmosphere, and the place is actualy is made of logs.
Unique Restaurant... Huge Portions
First time at the Log Cabin Restaurant (yes it is a real log cabin)... the rustic atmosphere was pleasant, the service attentive, the food plentiful and the price reasonable... one drawback is that the entranceway is very small with people coming in and out brushing against one another, but I could tell the food portions were huge as most people leaving were carrying a styrofoam container of food home with them. My date and I were there for dinner and we both had the stuffed twin lobster tails ($27 each) which were slightly over cooked, but still very good... the meal also included a baked potato, warm bread, salad and a huge dish of ziti that could feed six people... we also took food home. A few suggestions: the restaurant is very popular and in the warmer months I could see a much longer waiting line so get there early... and with the large portions, if you order appetizers you'll just be taking more food home.
Not Sure what the Hype is about
Arrived 6:10 PM on Saturday evening. They wouldn't take reservations for a party of 3, so we waited 20 minutes. Very busy. Smelled great. That is where the positivity ended. Waitress was NOT friendly, sat us, brought water, and tossed the specials menu on the table. No explanations. We placed our order. Had one beer, one sangria. The salads (house) were good. The big bowl of pasta was good. I had ordered my NY steak medium well, slightly pink. The steak I got looked great. Large, 1+ inch thick. It was cooked to a perfect RARE. I asked her to bring it back and cook it. She returned 2 minutes later with a butterflied steak- told me they 'gave her the wrong one. " This was cooked correctly, but very tough and grisly (because of the quality of the meat, not the cooking). There was no seasoning at all on the steak. Nor was there any seasoning on the sauteed mushrooms. My wife's Chicken Florentine had an odd, unpleasant smokey flavor (like a grease fire). My son's Meatballs had no seasoning, very bland. To top it off, the decaf coffee tasted liked instant. Definitely not worth the $104 including tip, even thought the portions were huge.
Best Food on the shoreline
Always the freshest big portions and a huge dish of pasta free with your meal. Anything on the menu is great.
Worth the Wait!
After a long rainy ride from Boston we decided a nice warm pasta meal was needed. Pulled into the parking lot, long line outside waiting but we decided to chance it, found 2 seats at the bar, cocktails were generous served in the proper glass, we looked at the menu and made up our mind before we were seated at a table in the bar. Ordered an appetizer of clams casino, the best ever! Lightly breaded, moist enough to sop up the drippings with the warm bread, so good! Our server, Anna told us they were great and they were Excellent salad with variety of dressings offered, then the pasta arrived! OMG, could feed a third world country with the amount, penne, 2 meatballs 2 sausages, all huge and so delicious, Anna stopped by to make sure we were enjoying our dinner as she was busy with a larger table but she never missed us with her hospitality, We must have come home with 5lbs of pasta and 1 / 2 bottle of Chianti, bring you appetite when you go but don't miss it if you like Italian food! Delightful and filling evening! Ask for Anna! She is a firecracker waitress!
Large Portions
The log cabin does not take reservations... on a Saturday night you may have to wait up to 30-45 minuets to be seated.. The service is very good, the portions are very large ! You start off with homemade warm bed, now comes the salad, and after that a large bowl of pasta for the table and then your entrée !!! The food is good, the bar drinks are reasonable and the staff is very nice... If you enjoy large portions look no futher..
Consistently Excellent
Taste, speed, service, quantity, quality, always spot on. I have been there many times over the years and it's the most consistent ever.
Great Family Restaurant
Not only is the food great but the portions are out of control. We usually leave with enough for another meal. The food prices are good and the drink prices are even better. I've sent numerous people there and all have loved it.
Food for days
Wow. Always delicious food with good service and friendly atmosphere. The French onion soup is a must--even in the heat of summer. Lots of melted cheese and onions. The accompanying side of pasta that comes with the meals is enormous and can feed a family all on its own. The fresh bread is highly addictive. The dinner choices are varied and equally delicious. Our group had baked stuffed shrimp---huge and tasty, the pork cutlet over broccoli rabe special--tender and super tasty and the zuppa de Pesci---the white version, lots of tender seafood on a huge bed of pasta. We always make sure we have a cooler to transport the leftovers.
Amazing Food and Value
My wife and I visited the log cabin recently with some friends, after touring the Thimble Island brewery. My friend and I ordered the Seafood De Pesci with a Fra Diavlo sauce that was amazing. It was loaded with clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp, and calamari and we both thought it was amazing. Our wives both ordered the lobster (and I forget the name exactly) ravioli in a cheesy Alfredo sauce with mushrooms that was also amazing. Everything was so amazing that our friends indicated that they were coming back with other friends who they compete with finding best restaurants in CT. As many others state, the serving sizes are ginormous and we had plenty of leftovers to enjoy again later. Our salads were great with creamy garlic, blue cheese and balsamic dressings. The desserts; carrot cake and peanut butter cup cheese cake were also awesome. I forgot mention our waitress was awesome too! I eat out a lot and I really love Log Cabin!
Not impressed
After a very long day of work I remember as a kid going there with my family I am very upset with the attitude the waitress had and even the owner rushed our food out we couldn't even sit. Just because we came on a motorcycle.. There are a lot of people who ride who are Doctors and Lawyers I am a paled by the way they treated us... never going back.
Been in Business Over 25 Years Because It's SO GOOD!!!!
If you've never been here, you are in for a very pleasant surprise!!! They start you with hot Italian bread and a huge family style bowl of pasta. Then, you get a fresh salad - my favorite dressing is the Creamy Garlic!!! Yummy! I always buy some to take home!!!! Then, after you're already stuffed to the max, out comes your dinner plate. A very large dinner plate completely covered with deliciousness! I ALWAYS get the Chicken Gorgonzola (without mushrooms - personal preference.) I have NEVER been able to finish, which is NOT a bad thing because then I have an entire meal for the next day. Definitely recommended for gathering of friends, families, couples, parties,... everyone!
Great value!
Seriously mad at myself for not reading the reviews before eating here. We thought the prices were very high for a lunch menu but since we are near the beach in a kind of resort area I just shrugged. We ordered 2 soups (clam chowder and French onion) and the chicken Alfredo for our 18 yo son. The chicken meal was $21.95 and came with a salad and pasta. The pasta was served in a bowl the size of car tire (well not really but could easily be a side for 5 adults or 3 young men) and three pieces of chicken and a soup bowl of spinach. The food was delicious, the wait staff was very friendly and I would come back here again, without reservation. My only recommendation would be that they put on their menu how large the portions are.
Beach and the Log Cabin
After a nice afternoon at the Clinton Town Beach, my wife and 11 year old daughter found a familiar spot in the Log Cabin, which we visited a few years back. Our second visit provided for the same - an enjoyable dinner in an open family style atmosphere. Be prepared to be satisfied. The portions are huge and most people leave with leftovers. Be careful ordering an appetizer because the salad and family style pasta plus an oversized portion entree may leave little room for dessert. Our waitress was pleasant and there was plenty of support staff being attentive clearing dishes. Very reasonable pricing and the total bill was more than fair considering the above average portions. It's a restaurant worth visiting again.
OK
service was slow despite the fact that it was not at all crowded. Food was slow but tasty with generous portions. Bread was getting stale and crumbed a lot. Waitress walked past us several times before finally asking if we were ready to order. Then asked if we wanted something to drink. Asked for no onions on my salad - got onions. Very limited menu.
The place the locals go!
My wife & I stopped there at the recommendations from the guys at the antique store down the street. They told me you wont leave hungry, they weren't kidding! We started out with nice sized house salads with gorgonzola dressing, followed by warm bread & butter to go along with a huge bowl of pasta. I had the evening special, Zuppa di Pesce & Baked Bay Scallops for the wife. We had plenty of leftovers to go. Nice casual dining & great food.... Get there early, we just beat the evening rush! We will be back again.
Food alway taste better in a Log Cabin!
The log cabin is truly a great eatery. The food is absolutely delicious and plentiful. The sauce is mild and very tasty but not overly salty or overly seasoned. You get a big bowl of pasta for the table and the portions are big. Any left overs are boxed and wrapped over in cellophane to avoid spillage. I don't get to the Log Cabin often but I have never had a bad meal there. Its a busy place and they accommodate a very large crowd. I would highly recommend the Log Cabin for a positively Connecticut Dining Experience.
Sunday Lunch
I was surprised that the menu was so limited with no lunch entree under $20, no sandwich offerings or salad entree. Despite that, the food was very good and the portions huge. To sum up, I would not be giving 4 stars if I hadn't left with tons of leftovers... It's a pricey lunch.
bring a big appitite
Great italian food and huge portions, every dish is a meal for 2 and top notch. I have been there may times and highly recommend it. Dont make a mistake and order a meal for each person unless you eat like a NFL player. Trust me the portions are enormous.
