KS offers a great Sunday brunch buffet - great food and excellent service!
KS on the Keys was a great place for our large group of 14 to have brunch or lunch together. The server was very attentive and prompt. Many of our party had the Sunday brunch buffet which offers many many options for breakfast and lunch dishes- some ordered off the menu and enjoyed their meals and the portions were very generous. All in all a great experience and we would all go back!
Prepare to be disappointed!
I became a K & S customer (now called KS on the Keys) back in the 80's when I was stationed on the military base Uplands. Any military personnel who was ever stationed in Ottawa know K & S pizza very well. I had not been to this restaurant in a few years. To my big disappointment this evening, the pizza I was served was a totally different type of pizza. The toppings and the cheese were very scarce, the crust was very thin. For a small pizza and a pepsi: $29.00!!!! So, major cut back on ingredients while increasing the price! What a shame to ruin such a good reputation that was established in the 70's! I won't be back for sure and I will pass on the word!
Would not go back or recommend
We were a group of 8. Eggrolls were not a hit. Over cooked. Fishy taste. Rice pretty tasteless. Wraps and fries were okay. Items requested not available. Not a great lunch selection. Pricey for what we got. On the positive wait staff was excellent and helpful
Terrible and expensive!
The meal was terrible! We had fish and chips, and pizza. The meals were all cold and didn't look very appetizing. The fish and chips was tasteless and bland. No coleslaw or anything else on the plate. The service was ok but didn't respond to requests. They ended up having to take items off the bill as they never came.
Avoid at all costs besides the reviews which are most fake
Ordered through DoorDash and the receipt explicitly had the half and half order and it came totally wrong. I called and KS and after being transferred to 3 people I was told I had to go through DoorDash. Pizza was 40$ and doordash refunded me 8$. KS management could care less. " store policy says we can't do anything ". So basically they don't give a crap about customer service and the pizza sucked big time. Would you eat something that looked like this? STAY AWAY
Great experience
Great restaurent with excellent service! Group of 60 peoples and the team was really accommodating! Never missed any food… Must try the chicken!
Stone cold pizza. No response from restaurant
Ordered take out pizza for Mother's Day last weekend. I ordered at 1 pm for a 5 pm pick up. I am pretty sure they made the pizza at 1 pm and it sat for 5 hrs. Unfortunately my husband did not notice it when he picked it up. I had to microwave and reheat in the oven with starving toddlers waiting to eat. The box was full of grease. I called the restaurant and the phone simply rang. I emailed and got no response. The pizza was stone cold and horrible. This restaurant has gone down hill and we are finished with ordering from them.
Tasty Pie
Take out pie was ready for pick-up when we arrived Tasty pie with the right amount of tasty toppings at a very reasonable price Most certainly deserving of a return visit
Outstanding
What a great find. Had a team dinner at KS. To be honest, went in with low expectations. Large group dinners and a Saturday night are usually a recipe for disaster. What a delight to find all aspects were fantastic. Not only was the service extremely friendly and helpful, it was efficient and professional as well. The orders were taken with accuracy and speed. The food was delicious and fresh. Never have we had such a great experience at a large group dinner.
Excellent restaurant
A little pricier than its neighbours, but an extremely delightful and professional interior than its local neighbours. Food quality is always without complaint. Service is always friendly and professional.
First Visit
My friend and I went here for lunch recently and the KS pizza was good, the fatoush salad was very good and the service was EXCELLENT. Thank you Cam for your courteous and attentive service. Keep on smiling!
Large portions, but experience disappointing
Large portions, but crunchy egg shells in my dish. Not a busy dinner hour / evening so the young staff did well with our large group, very fast & friendly service. But older staff lounging around at front door during our whole visit, while bathrooms very unkept.
Nice place good food
So glad to be able to eat again in a real restaurant. The menu has been scaled abit. This is the same at most restaurants, as a result of Covid opening and closing, not a fault of the restaurants but of the health situation. The menu here is large enough for most people to order something they will enjoy. The food for our party of 7 was very good, worth the prices. Our waiter was Austin, he was great, very attentive and funny. The service was fast and food hot.
Covid SAFE 12-01-2021
Hi :) friends, heard Christmas Party spots, still available. Really enjoyed the large, VEGGIE Pizza, *************** with that PERFECT: amount of Veggies, Chz.; golden top, GOOEY chz inside and tasty crisp crust. Made reserv / s. for Sat. More than a satisfied guest, bjb
Great food at great prices
Is is one of the best restauranrs in Ottawa. Unbelievable pizza, steaks and asian food. Friendly, professional staff and management that take their customers very seriously. My go too place for a quality meal everytime
HUGE portions and good service!
We had a terrific meal at K and S. Our group of 8 was celebrating a friend's engagement and we were able to use the large party room. It is a good size and room for lots more people.... but due to COViD-19 our group was small and we felt very safe. The restaurant had good Covid safety measures in place. Our waiter Moe was super friendly, helpful and efficient. He was very busy that night as they were short staff but we never knew that. He was attentive and all of our meals arrived in a timely fashion and were hot. The servings here are HUGE. Not one of us finished our plates but we all took our food home. The battered cauliflower bites were sooooo good we were fighting over them.... and there were none left. My favourite dish is the beef and spinach salad.... so good! We had brought our own cake so no need to order dessert but we have had their coconut cream pie which is AMAZING!!! Thank you to the management and staff for creating a safe and delicious space for us to celebrate our friend's engagement. We had a great time!
Pizza
We visit this restaurant quit often and have always had great food and fantastic service. The pizza is excellent, if you like the Colonnade Pizza then you will love this one too. The service has always been great. Very pleasant waiters and waitresses and we have never been rushed even when it was busy. The glasses never go empty because as the staff walk by they always check. We have tried a few things on the menu and I also like the stir fry.
Disappointing Fish Tacos
I ordered fish tacos. Very disappointing. I eat fish tacos everywhere I go and these I must say we're the lamest. Tiny little things with hardly anything in them. The fish was tiny, oily and had more batter than fish. Everyone at the table had huge plates of different food that looked good and everyone else was happy. I think it's a good place to go just don't order fish tacos.
busy but great food
This is an excellent restaurant with great food - you just need to check the parking lot to see when they are full. When it is crowded the experience is not as good as when the lot is half empty.
Excellent meal
Visited with some friends and the meals were a hit. I love the variety of items on the menu as it suits everyone's tastes. The Asian-inspired dishes are very generous, in fact, I think the leftovers I brought home will be good enough for two more meals! Pizza is always a hit. The service was good as well, the staff friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Poor service
Visited this restaurant with a friend on a Friday night. Very disappointed. Food average and service was terrible. Waiter was very surly and even hostile when we asked questions. Made us feel stupid for asking. Requested water 3 times before we finally got a refill. Will not go there again.
Great Food and Service!
Visited KS on Friday nigh and easily managed to get a table. All of our Food was fantastic and the portions were really generous!
Delicious Dinner and Dessert
Tonight the food was stellar! We enjoyed the Imperial Chicken Stir Fry, the new Mediterranean Chicken Burger, the Lebanese Plate, and the Chicken Souvlaki dish. Absolutely everything was delicious!! There was so much food that we each brought some home for another meal. For dessert we ordered the Coconut Cream Pie and Chocolate Mousse Cake to share-sooo good!!! This was the best dinner out that we've had lately and we would recommend KS to everyone.
Birthday
Nice atmosphere, comfy seats. Lots of parking. Disappointed with the food. My husband's salmon plate was ok. But the chicken wings had no flavour; it is as if they were dropped in the fryer straight from the bag without any seasoning at all. Chicken pad Thai ; had large portion; had flavour but noodles were over cooked and the veggies (bok Choy) were over cooked and tasteless. I did not enjoy my supper. Would not return.
Anniversary Celebration
Were invited to an anniversary celebration and was very impressed with the place. The event was held in a large, airy room; staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was very good, ordered the Singapore Noodles (huge plate of noodles with shrimp, chicken and vegetables) and a pizza.
Celebrated my husbands 50th
A few months ago, I had made a reservation for last Saturday May 25th for my husbands 50th. It was a surprise party. The staff were very helpful and very accommodating. Because my husband has difficulties walking, I had reserved for the lower level and when I had called on Saturday just to confirm that there were no changes, I was offered to bring my husband and all the invited guests upstairs and my husband is able to use their elevator lift. Through out all our visits at this restaurant I had never known they had one for people who are in wheelchairs or walkers. This helped a lot. Their food is simply amazing as well. I recommend this family owned restaurant 100%. We've celebrated my daughters birthday, as well as mine here and we always eat here when we are in the area. Thank you again for a wonderful night.
Mother's Day Brunch Buffet
We returned to this excellent restaurant where my daughter had her wedding reception a year ago. Atmosphere was relaxing and happy even though it was busy. It is light and bright due to the huge windows. Lovely decor! We all enjoyed the food. Amazing selection! Must bring more family with us next time. Great dining experience!
Wonderful team - Great spacious establishment - Vegan options
I had an excellent experience at KS on the Keys. I had a vegan gluten-free pizza with red peppers. So good! I was impressed by the wonderful, friendly staff and the beautiful decor. They were preparing for a Mother's Day celebration so they were busy altering their space to accommodate their clients but I never felt forgotten. In fact, the staff was very attentive. 5 stars!
Vegan / Gluten-free pizzas
What a lovely, clean and decorative space and wonderful team at KS on the Keys! I had a gluten-free vegan pizza with red peppers and an Earl Grey tea. It was very satisfying after a 3 hour bus ride to Ottawa. Great options on the menu. I can't wait to return with a group of girlfriends. :)
good variety
KS had a good variety of menu items at reasonable prices. Quality of food and service is good, and the place is big and nice
Great spot
Looking for a lunch spot close to airport. We had the greek salad with chicken. It was amazing. Service was great. Waiters very friendly. No looking wait. Definitely a great find
Lunch
Beautiful restaurant, nice atmosphere, good location, has parking, friendly staff, good service and mediocre over-priced food.
Unexpected Gem so close to home
We went to KS on the Keys to meet up with family to arrange a funeral, and usually some of the family can be quite picky. We had a great table, the service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and the food was absolutely great. Everyone present loved the place, which is definitely a first. We have driven past it so many times and for some reason, didn't think it seemed appealing. We were very wrong, this is a genuine hidden gem of a restaurant and we will be going again very soon.
Early Dinner before Departure
Being an Ottawa landmark KS is where I suggested we dine prior to our departure. Two enjoyed personal pizzas while I enjoined the sirloin burger. Great service, food & location. Super special to run into Robert on the way out... Can't wait to visit again... next year!
great for a large party
how a very large crowd for a surprise birthday party there last weekend. The service was fantastic and so was the food considering the amount of orders going on. They had us use a shorten menu for this crowd and we still had a great choice of food to pick from
Bad first impression
This was our first time at this restaurant. We were a group of 4 for dinner on a Friday night. My husband and I both ordered the Salmon that cost $22. The fish was good but the vegetable (broccoli and carrots) were not cooked - they were so hard, it was difficult to cut them. They would have been perfect as an appetizer with dip. We received a free dessert, reasons unknown but we figured it was because of the really slow service - my husband had to ask twice for the glass of wine he ordered. Our dinner mates enjoyed their meals very much and they were return customers. This may have just been a bump for us.
Good pizza
We recently picked up pizza from KS on the Keys. The pizza was ready when we arrived for pick-up and still hot when we got it home. We had a medium combination pizza. It was good. We will undoubtedly return because of its convenient location.
Good selection
We were invited to dinner to meet the parents of my son's girlfriend. We are from out of town and so are they. The location was easy access for us and close to My son and girlfriend's place. The parking lot was packed, so, we were surprised when the restaurant wasn't full. The menu is quite extensive. We were happy that there were gluten free options as well as vegetarian. Our meal was served in good time and the food was good. My husband LOVED the gluten free pizza and wished he ordered a larger one so he would have more to take home. Our server was very friendly and accommodating.
Don't order this salad
My friends and I enjoy this restaurant and visit it frequently. Tonight, like always, the service was very good. The server was pleasant and attentive. My complaint and rating is only for the dish I ordered so don't let this review keep you away from an otherwise OK restaurant. I often like to order a dinner sized salad for my main. I ordered the Autumn Salad. I think it's new. The word 'autumn' brings to mind a certain heartiness but there was nothing autumnal about it. It had CANNED pears and tiny, flavourless crumbs of Gorgonzola on a spinach and arugula mix (the greens were fine). The dressing must have been made with juice from the pears. It was just so sweet. The whole thing was very disappointing. The sweetness has stuck with me making me feel uncomfortable. I will return to KS but I will definitely NOT order this salad.
Amazing Food, Attentive Service!
We celebrated my daughter's birthday at KS and we had a wonderful meal and service. I had written in my online reservation that we would be celebrating her bday, so I was a bit disappointed that nothing was said or done by our server. In any case, we had delicious Lebanese Chicken Shawarma platter, Greek Chicken Souvlaki platter, Asian Imperial Chicken stir fry, and Italian Basil Chicken stir fry. All amazing with fresh ingredients and delicious tastes. Our server was very attentive and friendly, and did a great job. We would definitely recommend KS on the Keys and will dine there again!
Worst experience !
Worst experience. Service was slow. Can't take a reservations, mixed it all up. Long wait for food. Food is very boring. No table checks. Bathrooms where a mess. Overall not a great atmosphere. Left hungry.
Meh
I've eaten here a bunch of times and the food is not great. It's basically overpriced pub food. Their menu tries to cover too many types of cuisine, resulting in several types of mediocre food rather than specializing in anything and getting good at it. Our server the other night was very inattentive and not friendly.
Loved the Pizza
We arrived at 7:30 pm and we were seated immediately. After at least 10 mins I had to ask for service. The waiter was very apologetic and worked hard to make it up to us. We were four. We had three different types of pizza and one burger. The pizzas were Mediterranean, Pear, and Cheese. My wife loved the pear pizza, yes it had pears and it had a bit of sweetness. I loved my Mediterranean which had feta and olives and it was a bit sour. Mine was thick and cheesy, I prefer it that way. The ingredients were fresh and plentiful. The style of the restaurant is spacious, high ceiling, big windows, and large tables. There were two large groups on both ends so it was a bit loud. Loved that pizza and hope to have it again.
Retirement party
Was here for a friend's retirement party. Room was hot even with the AC turned to the coldest setting, and we were not even close to the room's capacity. I had their Smoke Meat Poutine, not very good. Fries seem not cook till it's crispy, so when gravy was added, the fries were a soggy mess. I will not be returning to this restaurant.
Congratulations
Well done- take frozen chicken nuggets toss in bottled PC thai sauce add a few slices of cucumber and put on top a stale pita bowl and get people to pay 15 bucks. You best change the menu often.... oh yeah, perhaps use duck tape on the ripped banquettes. Next time I think we will have a nibble at home..... better food and comfort.
Good pizza
We went to KS on the Keys recently for pizza. We sat in a booth. The restaurant was moderately busy. It is not a very warm environment. We had a medium combination pizza with a thin crust. It was good. We will probably return because of its convenient location.
Average
Average describes my overall impressions of the place. It was pricey for what you get. It has a very diverse menu which the vegetarians deeply appreciated. The cauliflower tao chicken was really good. Its chicken counter part was dry. The pizza is very good (brick cheese!) But the pastas were lacking. We were a big group so we sampled each other's meal, though some came out super late.
Good service, prices and portions
Went here recently (for the first time) with a friend. Service was fast and friendly. Place was quiet for a Thursday night. I had general tsao chicken and the house blonde beer. Dinner portions are huge and the food was fresh and tasty. Menu has lots of variety, so I'm sure I'll be back soon.
Excellent food and friendly environment
A very good experience. The bar is upstairs separated from the main eating area, although there are other TVs around to watch your favourite sport. The staff is friendly and helpful. Portions are large and well done. There is also a good variety.
Expensive and mediocre
Looking for a restaurant to have breakfast in South Keys, we came upon KS on the Keys. We each ordered the western omelet which came with toast and fries, and coffee. The omelet was tasteless (did they use powdered egg mix?) and the meal overall mediocre. The cost: $45.18 (tax in) On a positive note, the waiter was very good and the decor bright and modern. The breakfast menu was very limited. We would make a different choice next time.
Nice Restaurant
Restaurant is quite pleasant. It has two levels plus a separate area for private functions. Pizza is very good. I had one of their Asian meals. I enjoyed it but I wasn't wowed by it. Friendly staff
Private room part
We had booked this for a 65th bday party. The service we received was exceptional. Waiters n waitress were all professional and friendly. The staff was very accommodating to the young kids as well. The lasagna was very tasty and also was the garlic bread. We had the Italian job buffet and everyone really enjoyed their food. They were always coming with more food. I think this place has improved tremendously from a few years ago. Very happy with the quality of food and service tonight. Thank you to all the staff.
BEST VEGAN CHEESE!
We had recently heard about the vegan pizza at KS on the Keys, so we decided to give it a try. I have to say that it was the best vegan pizza I have ever tasted. I am a vegetarian, not vegan yet because I love cheese. I would actually choose this pizza over any regular cheese pizza. It was tasty and creamy. I was very impressed that there were several other vegan choices on the menu as well. Way to go KS! The service was excellent. We sat upstairs and our server was very personable. We will definitely go back.
Un-trained bartenders / very slow service
The slowest service in Ottawa. You have to wait a long time for your drink order, 20 minute wait for the drinks to come followed by long waits for food and very long waits for the bill to come. I ordered an Old Fashioned. The bartender did not know how to make this common cocktail. Instead of telling me and giving me the option of changing my order, s / he tried to make it and it tasted horrible!! There was barely any fluid in the glass, I doubt it was bourbon and there was way too much bitters. They charged me $16 for the drink!!! That will get you a premium 2 ounce bourbon at a Fairmont hotel! And the bill said " Manhatten " (a 2 ounce drink). Food is good but not worth the bad service.
Best Pizza ever and Chinese food too!
We drive from the far west end of Ottawa to KS on the Keys. It takes us about 40 minutes to get there but it is soooo worth it. You won't need to order extra cheese as it is super cheesy! Believe it or not there excellent Chinese food too. You won't regret a visit to KS on the Keys!
Best restaurant in Ottawa
The wife and I loved it so much we had to go back. We were only in town for 5 nights and wanted to try something different each night. However, our first visit was so great we had to return the next night. Great atmosphere including an upstairs bar area and patio. The service was wonderful and the food was amazing. I had the General Tao chicken both times (Yes.. it was that good). I will definitely make this my first choice when I next return to Ottawa.
Impressive variety
This restaurant is very large and spacious, with attractive decor and a nice atmosphere. The menu was extremely large and had something to offer everybody. We had Thai chicken bites for an appetizer and they were good. I had the chicken stuffed with cream cheese, spinach and asparagus. It was pretty good. The seasonal vegetables were crisp but I wasn't a huge fan of the roasted potato wedges. They were a bit too large and greasy. I also had a side greek salad. I took home half my meal. The portion sizes are huge. My sister had some kind of spicy noodle dish with tons of chicken on top. She couldn't finish half of hers either. Her boyfriend had salmon and he said it was great. My girlfriend had a chicken wrap and cream of chicken soup and she enjoyed both. The menu is very extensice. They even have pizza and Asian. I would recommend this restaurant to anybody.
Never disappointed with the pizza or service
We've been going to KS for years - when Kelly was running the " joint " on Bank / Albion. We always felt like family when we went there - and were slightly disappointed when the son who took over after Kelly's death moved to the new fancy digs. It took a few times to get used to the fanciness - but the main thing that has always won us over.. the pizza 1st - service 2nd. Also, if you have room for dessert - share the coconut cream pie that Kelly's wife makes. It is delicious - and gets my Type 1 diabetic approval (well worth an extra bolus or two of insulin on my pump George Michael <lol>). Oh - did I mention that we live 2 hours away from Ottawa - and always make a trip to KS when we're in town. It's that good :)
Valentines Special
We were really happy with our ability to get a table on such a busy night without reservations. Granted, we were lulled into thinking a reservation for two would not be required since they don't accept reservations for less than 8 (according to the web site), but we found out later their telephone message recommended reservations for 'special' occasions - ie Valentines Day. [Management - please note this advertizing inconsistency and fix it... OK?]. However, other than this surprise, our experience was well above average. We were treated to an accommodating hostess, seated quickly, and served promptly. The meals we ordered were well prepared, served quickly, and much appreciated. I had the Singapore Noodles that I really liked, and my partner really enjoyed her Gluten Free Pizza. We have tried GF Pizzas at a number of of Ottawa locations, and this one got the nod from her as being superior to all the others. Not just this time - on a previous occasion as well. We agree with Stanger8788 - it's worth paying for. We both over-ordered a little, and enjoyed the leftovers for at least another meal - the pizza lasted for two additional meals, so the price is not necessarily that negative a factor. As an aside, we're seniors, and it was really delightful seeing the other diners and their situations / circumstances / dates. One table was warning another table to be aware of the possibility that a potential Olympic Hockey game might dictate the table seating (nope - the management wisely avoided any sports on the TV's' all around - just a dreamy fireplace with burning logs...), Another table were a much younger couple - the gal having brought a lovely home baked chocolate cake for dessert with a wonderfully non-professional heart and Happy Valentines message on it (should have impressed the guy - certainly made an impression on me...). Another couple were so engrossed in intimate conversation they were totally elsewhere for the entire experience. Sort of wished we were there as well - if you get my drift.. Sigh..... So, do I recommend KS on the Keys? Darn Right. Will be there next valentines Day - our 45th.... ;-) I hope no one will be offended if I don't manage a review then - I don't plan on doing as much observing on that visit. See the rest of you romantics there... Looking forward to seeing Leo and Stanger8788 in particular... Gerry
Going Downhill
I used to like this location, but since their opening things have been steadily going downhill. Now this is an overpriced, under served restaurant. Went July 19 and met with friends (6 of us in total) at 6:30 on a Saturday. Before at this time this place was packed, now there was no problem getting a table as there were many empty ones. Not a good sign when you can't fill your restaurant on a Saturday. Our waitress was pleasant and took our drink orders. I ordered a Stella. Now I know this isn't a big deal, but shows how their standards are slipping. Stella comes in a special glass. Every local neighbourhood bar will serve it in one. Not here, it came in a regular glass, no head and luke warm. One thing I will say, is that for the price you are paying, you are expecting fine dining high quality food. Prices are what you would expect to pay at a restaurant downtown, not at a place with cafeteria tables and chairs. The food although good to okay was nothing special. I had a steak, paid the same price as the Keg and got no where near the Keg. Fried potatoes and hard vegetables as sides. Wife's lasagna was the equivalent of microwaved. For what we paid and what we got not even close to good value. Also, six of us ordered, five meals were delivered and the sixth, a vegegatian meal arrived ten minutes later. No apology. This restaurant will unfortunately continue to go downhill as more and more people stop going. I know this was my last visit. As fewer people stop coming, food quality and service will go down with it. My recommendation is save your money and go somewhere else nearby and you " ll receive better food and service and probably save enough money to go to a movie.
Where is the service
Well, let me start off by saying that I posted this comment on their facebook page hoping for a reply, instead they deleted my post. So because of that you are getting this rating. Here is what I posted: Went in with a friend last night (Beginning of July / 2015) at around 7, taken upstairs to the patio, seated with menus. 10 minutes go by without an acknowledgement (not acceptable), the manager (I believe) comes in with a couple of waters shortly after and asks if we have been served yet which I replied with a no. Several minutes go by again without anyone coming to us asking to order any drinks, we close our menus, another 5 goes by without anything, people around us are being helped. Another several minutes go by and we had enough. Got up and left. Terrible service. I understand it was fairly busy, it was Friday night, but 15-20 minutes without anyone coming to us EVEN for a drink order is ridiculous in my opinion. We went to another restaurant which was just as busy, we got our drinks within 2 minutes. Oh, and I would like to mention that when we left we drove around the block, and when we came back a few minutes later there were 3 people sitting in our seats being served. Thanks for the waters, not going back again.
Cold and Bland Food
My friends and I went there for a birthday dinner. This was my second time there and I didn't enjoy my first visit. This visit wasn't any better because my food took a while (45 mins) and it came cold and bland. My friends weren't too crazy about theirs either. They also automatically charge you a fee for a group.
Horrible food / experience
We just came back from what we thought would be a night out for dinner after a busy Christmas Holiday. We were seated at 5:20 and did not receive our meal until 6:20 at which time the food was cold. Fajitas were not steaming, chicken bites were cold, tortillas (4) were stone cold. When we finally got the server's attention, she proceeded to say sorry, then moved on to serve two more tables before bringing us more tortillas, ran out of condiments, asked for more, she went on to place two other orders, had to ask for manager. Manager arrived with condiments, more tortillas, apologized but never offered to compensate the meal, I had to ask for compensation then I had to ask for more water with which he responded by saying he would send our server over, this took another 15 minutes. The entire experience took 2 hours for 3 of us. HORRIBLE SERVICE and HORRIBLE FOOD!! Will not return... very unfortunate as they are in our neighbourhood. They have forgotten the basics, customer service first. They have gotten too big for a small local business that once prided itself on being part of the community.
Worst meal in a long time!
I ordered what was called a strawberry and asparagus salad. What I received was a huge mound of tasteless iceberg lettuce, only enough spinach to cover it up, a few strawberry slices and 5 or six spindly and limp pieces of asparagus. The waiter replaced the first, but the replacement was no better. For that we were charged the princely sum of $12.89, and I left hungry. I've had that salad in the past, and it was good. This was atrocious. Don't know if they're starting to pinch pennies, but this somewhat regular likely won't be back.
Bugssss
Warning, dirty food or something, nasty bugs. Too bad they will deal with my complaint. Cold food last time I went.
Terrible Just terrible
Beento KS more han once- each time I swear it's the last. Food is terrible, terrible value for what you get. Last time I was there I ordered the Fish and chips... fish was tough, smelled old and was terrible. So bad I could not eat it. Cod and Haddock are tow fish that should never smell fishy... unless they are old. This dish was not fresh and was so over cooked. The waitress saw that I was not eating it took - it away. At the end of the meal the waitress said good news - we're only going to charge you 50% for your meal. I shouldn't have been asked to pay a penny for that slop
Very disappointed
One of my guests ordered the shrimp platter. We sent it back immediately because it was cold. It was returned to us a few minutes later after being microwaved. Now the shrimp were shriveled up and couldn't be removed from their shells. After the extra wait, my guest gamely went on. When we finally flagged down our server and pointed out the issue she explained that this was a new menu item, and she agreed that it wasn't a good meal. However the manager refused to adjust the tab beyond 20% of that item, $4, because it had been partially consumed. Never going back!
Only the pizza is worth the $$$
I've been visiting KS on the keys ever since they were the hole in the wall, dingy pizza tavern on Bank street (maybe 15 years ago now?) The pizza has always, and still is amazing. However, I visited them last night for the first time in about a year and was saddened at the quality of our food. If you're ordering anything here, you'll realize soon enough that the price for the quality and location is just ridiculous. A pitcher of domestic beer (that also tastes as the keg taps had not been cleaned in while) was 27$$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I usually get the pizza because it is amazing, but this time I decided to give something else a try and was severely disappointed. I ordered the pad thai, because I had heard from friends that their asian cuisine isn't so bad, but it was horrible! The most bland pad thai I have ever had; it tasted like I was eating noodles and butter with a little bit of cashews on the side... safe to say I will never order anything other than the pizza ever again and will be sticking to none alcoholic beverages when I go. Also, my brother ordered the fish and chips and it was actually pathetic when his plate came out. Frozen fries (like Mccain quality fries) and the fish was not the traditional fish and chips batter, and looked like two fish sticks sitting on his plate. I hope the manager sees and reads my comment, as I've been a loyal customer since the beginning and would hate to see this place close down due to the poor food quality they are serving to their customers... All in all, stick with the pizza and you'll be fine!
Pizza and a stir-fry? Best of both worlds
Went to dinner with my family and we choose KS for its location. Close to the cinema and they have a huge parking lot which is convenient. The restaurant was clean and the hostess was friendly. Our sever was Nadia and she was a happy cheerful server for our whole dinner experience. My husband had a beer and I went with a Bellini (too much sugar but tasty) and our kids had pop. We ordered a large pizza which was great for sharing and a chicken stir-fry. Both portions were large!! Enough to feed the family at a fair price. Our sever was fast, efficient and all smiles even when our boys started arguing over the candy at the front door. Very happy with the service and the food!
Not the place to go in big groups
Have gone here several times and any time I have gone in a big group they add a gratuity to the bill - (sometimes not telling us so we over tip) long wait times. And not what it use to be. I miss the old days of KS.
Great patio
We recently had a quick supper here and I wasn't expecting much. The service was excellent. The restaurant was clean. The best part was the patio. Food was good. I had gluten free stuffed chicken.
Pricey, but not disappointing
We stopped here on a Friday night (around 7pm). Had a 15 min wait. (very reasonable). Very strange set up in that part of the waiting area (a long bench seat, like half a booth) was facing directly across about 4 booth tables. I would not have appreciated eating at those booth tables! Awkward! Table service was good (but waiter wasn't particularly knowledgable). We were seated in a booth but the table was a movable table and I found the spacing was uncomfortable. Maybe better suited to larger people? Décor was nice, but the cheap looking tables didn't match the rest of the décor. I had chicken fajitas which were good - comparable to other restaurants. My husband had the fish and chips which he liked very much.
Continues to decline in quality
When the new location opened it quickly became a favourite place for us to go, even if it meant driving 30 minutes to get there. Not so much anymore. The building itself is starting to fall apart. I was sure there were pages missing from the menu (which was falling apart as well) but actually the selections have gotten smaller but the prices have gotten bigger. They say everything is fresh made, but from what we could tell that's only if that means fresh out of the freezer. I had their signature pizza. It was okay but not worth a 30 minute drive. Fries on my son's club sandwich were soggy - maybe they'd defrosted before going in the fryer? In summary, the food is average at best, but at about 50% higher prices than in your favour neighbourhood diner. We won't likely be going back any time soon.
Disappointed
Parking lot full due to large party inside but still plenty of tables available. My favourite cocktail could not be made, staff young and inexperienced. Had to ask THREE times for water. Service slow due, presumably, to staff shortage for the number of patrons. Ordered two appetizers, fish cakes and baked Brie which, actually, wasn't too bad! Decor a bit knocked about and air conditioning drafts at window tables.
First time visit
I'd noticed this restaurant years ago but was never certain if it was actually open - there's something about the exterior that does not seem inviting. Nevertheless, we decided to give it a try for lunch a couple of weeks ago. I was surprised and encouraged to see that it was quite busy on a weekday at lunchtime. The interior is spacious and quite nice and the place had a good feel to it. The service was a bit slow to begin with but efficient enough once we had menus. But it was not exactly welcoming or friendly - we didn't see a smile until tip time. And it seems that beverages are only dispensed from the bar upstairs. We were eating on the main level, so our server was up and down stairs to get beverages for us and other diners. I had fish tacos. They were reasonable but not more than that. My companions had the fish and fries and the lunch steak and fries. Often, dishes such as these would have had some accompaniments such as coleslaw or a touch of some greenery, but these were both unadorned. Again, they were considered acceptable but not remarkable. Given that prices are similar to many other restaurants' lunchtime fare, in future I am likely to go elsewhere.
Many choice menu
Promptly seated served. Pleasant and attentive hostess. Wide range of food choices and moderate prices. The restaurant has been in the area for decades.
Keeps going downhill
This place has crossed from unfortunate to annoying. Go here if you plan to get drunk and eat whatever is put in front of you, otherwise best to go to the Montana's across the road... Water glasses were advertising some booze company but the lettering left black stains on our hands. Beer was just barely cool. Most of the food we ordered tasted like stuff we'd buy frozen in a box and cooked in our oven at home. The menu keeps changing and getting worse, mostly removing anything they actually have to cook from scratch. Pizzas still okay though, suggest you get them to go.
Fun Food!
Very surprised by their great pizza! Asked for triple pepperoni and actually GOT triple pepperoni. Made a drink that they didn't know and quite accommodating. Open concept but not loud with other patrons. Great night out with my friend. Definitely will be back!
Needs a little help
I really want to love this place and I did originally. Certainly the old KS on Bank and Albion where The Works is now. When the new KS opened it was exciting and the place was packed. A separate door for take-out is now shuttered and can be visibly viewed as a storage room from the outside, The espresso bar and fancy pastry display is long gone. The furniture looks a bit beaten up and worst of all are the lack of clients at least when I have been there at lunchtime. Breakfast no longer served too. The pricing is high with lunch offerings hovering around $15. The pizza is unique and great. OK so here is an idea for Robert the owner who I didn't see. You need to find a better way to 'skin a cat' as they so. How about some promotions? Two for one burgers? A special lunch time pizza offering? Complimentary egg rolls? Free pop? Kosher style all beef hot dogs? Fish and chips for $8 at lunch not $12 or was it more than that? I hope they listen otherwise folks will line up at the nearby chain restaurants.
very disappointing
When my food came there were black spots on the snow peas. They tried to convince me that it was from the frying pan..... seriously. I spoke to a friend who manages a restaurant and another friend whose degree is in food science - they, along with the people i was there with, all said the peas were spoiled. Should never have been served - or at the very least when brought to management's attention the meal should have been replaced - no questions asked, rather than trying to convince me to continue eating the meal. Lost my appetite This restaurant had been a favorite place - not so much anymore. Very disappointing and disturbing.
Had a good meal with friends
Went to the eatery with some friends, the wait staff were very attentive, and the food was brought out in a very timely manner. Mostly stir fry type meals were ordered and was noted they were very generous portions. I had pizza, which was good. Overall I enjoyed the experience and being with friends, we chatted quite a bit, as were not rushed. Overall a very good experience.
Decent food, terrible (terrifying?) service
I went here for a casual dinner with my mother before a movie, and we left slightly stunned by an unfortunate series of events that transpired over the course of dinner. We were seated by a friendly woman who told us that we would be served by a specific waiter. He arrived shortly thereafter and took our drinks orders before confirming that we wanted some more time to look at the menu before ordering our food. We shut our menus once we had decided and waited for him to return with our drinks so that we could order. Thirty seconds later, we were awkwardly confronted with another overly aggressive waiter who asked if we had " even been seen to yet ". We explained quite cheerfully that we were just waiting for our initial waiter to come back (who had not been gone long at all), but he asked for our drinks order again and then somewhat competitively (?) replaced our first waiter as our server for the rest of the night - very awkward indeed. My mother inquired as to whether the shrimp pad thai was still being served with huge amounts of noodles, and the new waiter confirmed that it was indeed - to quote him, " you will definitely not be able to finish it ". She ordered it regardless and when she declined to have the rest of her noodles packed up (since she had no means of reheating it for later), he seemed annoyed and stated that the dish must not have been good. We had to awkwardly reiterate that the dish was fine, just simply too much for one person. Overall the food was fine, but the service left us feeling like if we were to complain that we would find ourselves hunted down in the parking lot... will not be back anytime soon.
Just okay
Just okay. Very different from what you'd expect from the outside. Its a very modern looking buildings - looks really upscale. The inside looks much like a family restaurant / sport bar (there are easily 25 TVs there). Menu's a little odd - they have pizza, indian food, sushi, asian fusion, mexican, etc. I'm always a little skeptical of places that " specialize " in all food. Food wasn't bad, but certainly not what you'd expect from the building from the outside. it seems like the outside got a facelift, and it might be time for the menus to go under the knife (they're covered in aging plastic and have unattractive and unappetizing photos of the food on them). Pizza was good.
Great potential but needs lots of service adjustments
We have been here many times and the first 2 were great, third was terrible and we decided to give it another chance thinking it was an off day last time. In making the reservations I explained all the incidences that happened the last time so they would prevent them this time. (Last time, they forgot to write down our reservation for 10 people so we had to wait 1 / 2 hr, the cutlery and plates kept arriving with old food on them, the hostess sat us near the door which was very disrruptive, she also had a constant smirk and didn't appologize for any mishaps. Our service was extremely slow, 1hr for our food to come and our billing was incorrect). This time it was pretty good except for, I think she was a bus person, we asked for more water, so she brought us one, when explaining we needed more she asked " well how many? " annoyed, I simply asked for a pitcher and we would serve ourselves. She told us they were out of pitchers and walked away not getting us more water. She was at the table next to us when our waiter came and we asked him for more water, he said " sure " and brought us a pitcher, which the bus person then took a glance at us as we watched her smirk and not appologize.
Fashionable Dining
I was introduced to this restaurant because of the " Let's Be Fabulous " BGGO fashion show and I was impressed. Comfortable seating with a variety of areas (even a second level and large party-type room) and lovely atmosphere. The wait staff were wonderful and while we did have a set menu, it was FABULOUS. My friend and I had the salmon. Cooked to perfection with lots of lovely vegges and the roasted potatoes were delicious. Everything I saw coming out to be served smelled and looked wonderful. I am so glad we were bad and had dessert. A light, creamy cheesecake with a yummy raspberry reduction was sinfully delicious. I will definitely go back and try out more from their regular menu.
Mediocre At Best
We started supper up in the bar area. The server came by to offer us drinks so we both had water to start. After 15 minutes of looking at the menu and having decided, the server NEVER came back but helped everyone around us. We decided to move on downstairs in hope of better service. My wife ordered manicotti which she enjoyed, although the presentation just wasn't there. I had the chicken chow mein... DO NOT ORDER IT. It's essentially a bowl of bean sprouts. Very bad first and last impression. We thought the place would be like Moxie's. WRONG!
