Cheeseburger and Paradise! Succulent burger. Friendly service. Can't wait for my next trip to Digby to eat here again.
$40 of heaven
Always knew that food trucks were a piece of deliciousness. Kalen's did not disappoint. Very orderly in this time of Covid. Lightly breaded scallops and the handcut fries with the clams... local Digby delights. Reasonably priced in my eyes. Might even stop another night as I saw a sign for haddie pieces and clams. We sat at the picnic table beside the truck and just enjoyed the grease
My sister, father and I we
My sister, father and I we out for a day trip visiting Brier Island. On the way back we stopped in for a late lunch. What a cute little place. It is take-out only and they have a lovely little picnic are with orange and white tables. The food was delicious. My sister had a hamburger & fries. My father & I had 1 pc fish and chips. When we go back we would order the 2 piece and share as the portion was huge and we could not finish it all. It is a popular spot. We arrived and within 5 minutes 7 more cars arrived. If you are driving by and thinking maybe not, rethink. It is worth the stop. The people working there are also very lovely.
Great hamburger, friendly staff
Hamburger was fantastic. I was disappointed in the scallops - the roll for 8$ was very small and the scallops themselves were cooked well but the taste was not good. The tartar sauce consisted mostly of relish and they were quite expensive. There was some locals there and they were all ordering burgers and it was awesome so I would just stick to that in the future.
Sehr lecker und gute Preise
Wir kamen in den Genuss auf Grund des Sturmes, als danach alles andere geschlossen hatte. Super frische Burger und erstklassische Pommes - und das Ganze zu moderaten Preisen. Man kann das Essen mitnehmen oder direkt vor Ort auf ein paar Bänken.
Awesome fish & chips
Nice little takeout spot on the outskirts of Digby. Friendly staff. I had the fish & chips, which tasted amazing. They have a few tables and chairs too.
Where is the lobster meat
I read a review that said the poutin had lots of lobster, but I had about 3 bites of lobster and about 7 fragments of lobster. The burgers are small but good. The guy forgot to put French fries with it even though we paid for them. The fries on my poutin were old. It honestly was not good at all.

Good food. Friendly staff. Lots of bugs (At this point, when we went) and that is no fault to Kalen;s.. but unfortunately this is first thing we remember and recall.. The staff was very nice. Value was good. Cheap hotdogs.. Overall we would stop by again in Digby. After we tried a few more places (Only because we are new and I like to explore) But likely would come back. No washrooms, lots of picnic tables, shade! Cool convienient place on the main road heading home.....
Wow, delicious seafood galore on one plate!
After reading a review on Kallens I definitely wanted to try it on me recent road trip in and around Digby and area. One day one we were looking for Kallens in town by the ocean but ended up eating at another restaurant and had my first feed of Digby Scallops. On day 2 had Lobster in another town and on Day 3 had both Lobster and Scallops in another town and then FINALLY spotted Kallen's cruising out of Digby and went back for supper. It was well worth the wait to get to finally go there and for me it was that true authentic east coast food truck fare that I was looking to experience. He takes great pride and care in the food they put out- you can just tell by the presentation and the way they talk to customers. Spoke with Kallen for a bit and is a true-blue East Coast gentleman! I can't say how but I was witness to a true act of kindness by them that day. Definitely need to make this a priority stop when on the way in to Digby. Look for them tucked in on the side of the road with a nice large gravel parking lot and picnic tables.

Fish and chips as they should be
Because they prepare orders on the spot as they come in, you need to be patient at Kalen's, even when they're not too busy. The result is worth it. May be the best fish and chips I've ever had. My only caution is, unless you're eating them on the spot, get your fish done with Kalen's own coating, not the traditional English batter. They take every care to pack your meal but even with ventilation in the packaging, batter will become soggy iin no time.
Bad day
We were excited to try Kalen's Take out as we came to Digby for scallops and had read that this place did them really well. We also love food trucks. It was a drizzly day in off season and we were the only ones there at first and it was late for lunch so perhaps that could be why the food was really dreadful. Still not an excuse.. Clearly there was a problem.. we had scallop, fries and fish. The fries were crispy but the fish batter was soggy & wet to touch.. the inside was clearly not cooked properly. One end had a small over cooked portion the majority of it was wet. The fish was old and tasteless. The scallops were dry and the coating was a mystery and not nice. Total price for two orders no drinks was $42.00. We should've gone into town to eat.
Top Take-Out
As many others have said, very good fresh seafood (we had scallops and fish) and excellent hand cut fries. Order at the truck and eat at picnic tables or take with you. Cash only.
Lunch with family
We stopped in for a lunch and were incredibly surprised and impressed with the food. First and foremost, the food was made to order and absolutely delicious. The hamburger was claimed to be one of the best ever had. Some small details in presentation were added to our meals that made a big difference in appearance and give it the next step. Well done.
Hidden Gem!!!
This is a little road side take out place but its a total hidden gem with out of this world clam and fries!!! We stopped in to this little side shack and we pleased with how good the food was and how friendly and great the service was. We all had clams and fresh french fries and it was to die for!!!!
Looks Can Be Deceiving
We asked a couple of locals where they'd go for seafood and they suggested Kalens. We were not disappointed as the food was terrific. Digby is known for it's scallops and of course that's what I ordered. Big portion, medium sized, lightly breaded, cooked perfectly, tender and delicious made the scallops the right order for me. The hand cut fries were really good too. My wife had the Lobster Bits (all tail meat) with a herb butter that she said was excellent. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Glad we listened to the locals.
Delicious take out!
Very generous portions and reasonable prices. Very tasty clams and scallops. Plenty of outdoor seating and plenty of parking.
Lobster poutine
LOBSTER POUTINE! Probably one of the best things we've ever eaten! It's huge!!! So good. So much lobster meat... we are both foodies and couldn't finish it. However that was a mid day snack... haha.. so good though!!
Quick, cheap decent food
The place looked a bit sketchy, but the guy was really nice and the food was good! I can't give half stars, but I'd say it was more a 3.5 than a 3. Had the 1 piece fish and chips, the home cut fries (I recommend). Servings were a good size, I couldn't eat it all. Fish was cooked well and tasty. Husband had the double cheeseburger, he said it was good and filling (but he said single burger might have been better to have). Nice spot to stop for a decent time meal!
Jacked up prices lower quality compare to previous owners
Tastles, " fish ".. With fishy taste... The usual good quality haddock what the previous owners " Judy and Joan " used to serve is missing, so as the compassion. Doesn't help to see the new owner parking in the handicap parking place to pick up hers pops from the store - to sell us with a profit on her own.
Awesome fish and chips
We stopped here as recommended by our hotel (Annapolis Royal Hotel). We were so pleased with the service and the fish and chips were A1. The staff also were very friendly. This take out has lots of picnic benches to eat at as well.
Best Fries in Digby!
Kalen's Takeout is the best food truck in Nova Scotia. Local Seafood done right, for a great price! :)
Amazing Meal!
We have driven by the place a few times whenever we are in Digby and decided to try it out. It was an excellent choice. Definitely get the " home fries " ! I had the " cheeseburger " poutine and it was soooooo good! Also an excellent stop because it has a few picnic tables under the trees and since we do not leave home without the dog and hate leaving her in the car, she was able to get out and lay in the shade by our picnic table while we ate! The service was also amazing and very friendly. Thanks!

Good food always!
The food is carefully prepared and is always of high quality. Service is efficient and delightful. One trip here is not enough as they have specials and additions to the menu based on the season. Seafood is especially well done.

Awesome scallops! Amazing burgers and the best fries in town! Don't let the " chip wagon " look fool you, the food is second to none.
Best scallops I have ever had!
The scallops are incredible. Lightly dusted, deep fried till they are succulent and so rich! Wonderful fried fish, home fries, coleslaw. Be prepared to wait 10 to 40 minutes depending on the time and day of the week. The place is often packed! So sit in your car or at one of the outdoor tables and enjoy the view!
Loved the burger - poutine needed work.
Five people in the truck - everyone enjoyed their meal. It wasn't too expensive - bit of a wait but it was busy and that points to the popularity of this truck. My only complaint was the poutine -- it's not poutine if it isn't cheese curd. Shredded mozzarella makes gravy-fries soup... The burgers were good, home fries were great, gravy wasn't terrible -- I'd stop again, if the line isn't too long

Great seafood all the time
Been eating here for a couple years now and have enjoyed it everytime. Large servings and the size all ways stays large. You want good seafood. You can not go wrong eating here. Trust me if you gotta wait a few extra minutes it is well worth the wait. The pics are of their Haddy bits. Good luck eating it all.
Philly Cheese everything!!
Philly Cheese Steak sandwich or Poutine - you can't go wrong! Huge portion sizes at great prices!! Philly Cheese Poutine was so big we shared! It's always busy so be prepared for a wait but it's well worth it!
Better than the Average Food Truck

Great take out place. Food was excellent, portions were generous, service was very cordial and well priced.
Good food in wrong location
Had to ask for directions because TripAdvisor map sent us at the wrong place. Quick lunch of clams and fried chicken. Their home fries are very good instead of regular frozen fries.
Kalen's scallops
I live in TO and was in Digby a few weeks ago. I was told to have Digby Scallops at Kalen's and when I found out they were deep fried, I asked Kalen if the serve them pan fried. Despite that I was the last customer of the day, Kalen took the time to pan fry them for me anyway The best scallops I have ever had: at the top of my li st for seafood - period. Besides the quality - Kalen was so kind and warm and went out of her way. Thanks K. Angela (Toronto)
Unusually slow
I can't give the food a bad review because both times we ate there the ---food-cheeseburgers & poutine, then a seafood platter and both were very enjoyable. I'm assuming at a normal time of the year the service would be a lot quicker but the Wharf Rat Rally was happening and the wait was anywhere from 45 mins to an hr & half, but due to the event going on, I would definitely go there again
Good scallop roll
Second best scallops we had during our two week vacation. I liked Ed's (the other takeaway) scallops just a little bit better. My husband thought Kalen's other food was better than Ed's…but maybe just because you get a lot more fries. It does take a bit of time to get your food but that's okay because it is good and freshly cooked.
Take out but not fast food
Very interesting little take out restaurant in Digby. Lots of choices and prices not bad. Lots of regular take out- burgers, etc but most interesting for out of towners would be to try the poutine which I had never had. French fries with cheese and gravy. Wow!
Not satisfactory
Personally when going in I was expecting somthing quick from a take out restauront but I went and waited about 25 minuets. If this was a diner of some sort it would be okay just the description of the restauront does fit the time. Also the fish was overcooked and greasy.
Best Scallops in Nova Scotia
We travel to Digby every year and have eaten at all the restaurants in town. Kalen's has the best scallops in Nova Scotia. Though technically a food truck, don't judge a book by it's cover. The food here is fantastic. BTW, be prepared for high seafood prices. The cost of scallops has nearly doubled in the past five years. Clams are also amazing. We'll be back next week--can't wait.
A place to stop
Was in Digby for scallop days and stopped by ordered fish clams and home dries and a lobster poutine, it was amazing. Very friendly and fast service. If you in Digby be sure to stop here !
Presently Surprised By A Food Truck
I was looking for a decent bite to eat in Digby but wasn't sure where to go. I checked zomato and came up empty. I took a risk with take out and was pleasantly surprised. We ordered a scallops platter (fried scallops with fries), scallop roll (fried scallops in a New England hot dog roll with tarter sauce), and poutine with hamburger, peppers and onions. The scallops were fresh, sweet, and succulent. The fries were a bit soggy but surprisingly tasty. The poutine were not traditional - melted cheese instead of cheese curds. However, they were savory and delicious. My recommendation is get out of the box and try the truck.
Delish
We are from Alberta and been to digby twice and we've stopped here twice. Had scallops both times and added some deep fried pickles this time! It has been amazing both times and we will be back again! I love that they offer lots of seating with shade and have a few outdoor toys for kids! Having a young child myself it always helps while waiting for your food! Definitely a spot I would recommend to stop!

SCALLOP ROLL at a FOOD TRUCK
We were on our way to grab some dinner at Supercenter and found this roadside diner on the way. We made a U-turn and came into the lot. Thank goodness, we did. I had this place pegged as one to visit in my travels, but wasn't exactly sure where it was in Digby. We all had the scallop roll and the scallops, although deep fried, were not over done. They were large in size and moist and sweet. When in Digby, you must eat Digby scallops! They also had other seafood on the menu.... clam strips, fish and chips and hamburgers and hotdogs etc. Make sure you drop by this place for your seafood munchies!
Great value, Great food
Stopped by for fish and chips. Wow. Reasonably priced, great quality, and generous portions. Love the fact that prices posted include taxes. The best little take out I've been to in years. Tried the rappie pie as well, (a local favorite) excellent. Hope they don't change a thing as I will be back whenever I'm in Digby.

The food here is very yummy, and also inexpensive! If you have not tried this place yet, I suggest you do! Very friendly staff always with smiles on their faces! Nothing bad whatsoever to say about this place!

Great service
We ordered the lobster roll and one piece fish & chips. The portions were large ! Food was fresh! We chose the homefries, they do not disapoint. There was a consistent line of customers, and I think this is because of the food & outstanding service by staff whom are polite & friendly.
Worth Waiting For After the Ferry!
So glad I waited until we got off the ferry to eat! I read the previous TA reviews and decided to have a late lunch instead of making due with the cafeteria on the ferry. Digby scallops at Kalen's Take-out are amazing! Lovely people and superior seafood! The scallops were lightly fried and melted in your mouth. Make sure you get the home fries - these are homemade fries at their best - not greasy, tasty and fresh. Wish we had ordered the large size since the small disappeared very quickly! We also got deep fried mushrooms which exploded in your mouth and tasted like nothing else. Don't miss the truck - it's on the right if you have just gotten off the ferry and are heading to the highway.

Clams and home fries were amazing!
We went to Kalen's Takeout after we drove all over Digby looking for Ed's Takeout and not being able to locate it. We're glad we found Kalen's! The staff was so friendly and efficient and the clams and chips were out of this world! The large order of clams was really too big for me to eat and we ended up taking a bunch with us wrapped in foil (for a little driving snack). There were other people eating at the picnic tables while we were there and they said that the fish and chips were excellent and apparently the scallops are the best :) The only reason we aren't giving Kalen's a 5 out of 5, is because we weren't crazy about the coleslaw, but the clams and chips? WELL WORTH THE TRIP!
This Is the best place in digby eat!
Traviling from Halifax every other weekend, I just can't wait to stop at kalens take-out. Always have to try something different each time because it's all so good. From the fresh fried clams and the home cut fries, to the huge deluxe poutine, the fresh Digby scallops are my favourite. The portions are big and we'll worth the money. Friendly staff and a great place. I tell everyone about it, it's deffiently a place to eat if your in Digby ! Can't wait for my next trip to try the fresh Digby scallop wrapped in bacon and glazed with brown sugar. Yummy :) Thanks so much staff at kalens for great food and service !
A Local Regular
Bigger portions than you would expect, coupled with great service and the tastiest take-out food ever! Hot and fresh, whether it be scallops, clams, lobster, or one of my faves; the Haddie Bits. Fish so fresh and flaky, it's a meal in itself even without the delicious handcut fries, that I never have room to finish. You might want to share! Economical and Delicious! Did I mention the Burgers!
