~~ Good Quality and Quantity ~~~~
Open since 2019, there is so many good, awful cheap and expensive H. K style Cafe in midland Vancouver, dropped in for dinner last night, located in Richlea Square lot of parking, comfortable clean airy atmosphere, large menu with wide range of dishes from Asian, Western to seafood, they well know for their mix and match combo also the Baked dishes, I was very happy with my lamb was so tasty and portion is big ! excellent quality fast service ! not a thing to complain, for sure I will back any time if I am in the area ! truly exceeded my expectation very reasonable price.
Excellent German style roasted pork knuckle
we were impressed by the whole crispy golden roasted pork knuckle. skin was light and crisp. the meat was tasty and tender. served with fries. borscht in hong kong style soup was delicious. the hong kong style milk tea mixed with coffee was similar to those served in hong kong.
Above average
I was hungry and wanted something to warm my stomach. I was also planning to do some grocery shopping so I went this is restaurant. This place is close to Freshco and my place. The food was above average in terms of hk style and service was quick and efficient. Covid cleaniness was also good.
** Lost Of Identity **
After a nice nature walk with the family, we drop in to the Hong Kong Flavor restaurant for early dinner, the restaurant is one of the new modern place, location is not that great, but lot of local hang out, I was amazing there safety plan is excellent, the staff will take your body temperature before you walk in, nice to see family run restaurant take covid 19 serious, we all feel so comfortable and relax, it looks so small outside but deceiving very big inside, and it is very clean, no problem with the social distance, menu is over size, too many special too, I am so confused is this a H. K cafe or Malaysian, Chinese Western restaurant, the biggest concern is lost of identity !, just too much choices, in a H. K style cafe, best value is the mix & match comb, overt all, food is okay, quality is so so, my poor beef rib, over boiled, meet just fell of from the bone, (the short cut is you boil the ribs first, and reheat in the oven, very mediocre !) my sisters curry beef not much beef in it, but lot of flavour, baked pork chop is too dry, most special come with a hot drink, over all, it is a average restaurant, price is affordable, well, I all way say You pay what you get !
Neighborhood HK Cafe
As close as an HK Cafe can get to being a neighbourhood restaurant. Observing the tables around me I noticed people at various tables talking to each other. The Manager here is well known as he used to manage Redbud. You can see he has a relationship with many patrons. The food is solid and staff friendly. It's a non-stressful location too as it's not in a busy mall.
Brunch at Restaurant
There were 3 of us going to this restaurant for brunch. The prices of the food is reasonable and we did not have to wait long to get our food either. The services that we got are quite good and we sat there and chat for about 2 hours. No one is trying to rush us to get out and the restaurant is also overall busy. Food is fairly good given the price range.
港式茶餐廳
我點的是魚片粥配鹹肉粽, 老公點的是北菇滑雞粥配油條, 老公說還不錯吃, 我的魚片粥有四片魚, 料算滿豐富的。東西也好吃。油條也滿大條的。
Too many regulations here
They have a lot of rules for you: you do not get a sit unless all of your group arrive even they have empty space; you need to understand Cantonese since they do not want to speak either English or Mandarin Chinese to you; you need to pay for the packing package if you have leftovers to take home.
Gouging fees!
Party of 3 went there for dinner. It took 25 minutes for the food to arrive and the food was just mediocre. Had leftover and they charged $0.50 for the leftover container. Also ordered another takeout order and they charged another $0.50 for the container on a TAKEOUT ORDER. When questioned, the manager (Peter) blatantly argued that the policy was in support of environmental protection. I then questioned why they would provide a straw for the iced tea. He couldn't come up with a satisfactory reply and simply said that's a different issue. I disagreed with him and told him if the container fee was truly for environmental reasons and they truly cared about the environment, they should immediately cease providing straws on drinks. It is simply unreasonable to charge a fee for a TAKEOUT container... Are we supposed to hold the food (spaghetti in this case) with our bare hands?! I haven't heard of a fee being charged for pizza boxes so to speak?! The container fee is nothing but a money grabber! It's a shame that restaurants are using " green " as a gouging excuse!
Not bad but charges extra for lots of stuff
Went to this restaurant twice, once for lunch and another time for dinner. The menu is slightly higher than average HK restaurants but quality is not bad. Only thing i hate is that for their 'set menu' for two items they have limited choices and if you choose more 'premium' items they really gouge you!! ie: changing sauce from basic gravy to 'premium' mushroom sauce add $1.5?!! if you select the regular items like chicken steak, pork chop and a few others it's $15.95, but if you choose fancier stuff like steak, add $5, lobster tail add $10? crazy!!! very few free included items! In principle i don't order that!! they are a bit out of touch with their customers...
Another Hong Kong Style restaurant - 3 out of 5 rating
Hong Kong Flavor Restaurant is another in a long line of Hong Kong style restaurants, serving predominantly Asian food but with a sprinkling of Western dishes such as sandwiches and salads. This restaurant has been open about 2 months and on this Monday at 12:30, the restaurant was very busy. We were able to get a table in about 5 minutes. When we left over an hour later the restaurant was still at 90+% capacity. We ordered 2 dishes to share: . # 41 - Malaysian style fried rice noodles ($12.95) - stir fried flat rice noodles with green peppers bbq pork, shrimp (about 6, u40 size), green onions and scrambled eggs. An average tasting dish. . # 89 - Beef brisket and seasonal vegetable ($12.95) - served with a large bowl of rice and winter melon soup. The beef brisket was tender and taste was average. The seasonal vegetable was baby bok choy (about 4 or 5 stalks). The amount of brisket wasn't more than 4 to 6 ounces. Each of the dishes included a hot drink. My spouse had a regular coffee and I ordered the Hong Kong style milk tea. The complimentary drink (normally hot tea at other restaurants) was hot water. The total cost before the tip was $27.20. Ratings Breakdown: . Food quality and taste - average. My spouse commented that she had a slightly dry mouth after the meal. The dry mouth syndrome is normally associated with the use of the flavour enhancer MSG. This was a minor issue. . Value vis-à-vis portion size - Average value and portion size. I would have preferred to order the dishes without the hot drink additions thereby paying less. I finished most of the beef brisket dish and also a portion of the noodle dish. Looking at the dishes that other customers ordered, the combo dishes came with a large portion of rice or spaghetti. The flat rice noodle that we ordered was a regular sized portion. . Service - overall average. The food arrived in a timely manner. Just like the Hong Kong style restaurant we went to last week, Happy Day Cafe, my initial impression was that is was going to be a decent eating experience based on how busy it was. The food said otherwise; nothing really bad about the food but also nothing really to rave about - just standard fare. I would rate the overall food experience as average - 3 out of 5. Notes & Tips . No credit cards; cash and debit card only. . The restaurant has been open since January 2019 . This restaurant located in the Richlea Square Shopping Centre on the corner of No 3 Road and Williams Road (1 / 2 mile north of Steveston Highway). It's in the old Banners restaurant location near the Starbucks. . There is seating for over 80 customers - a mixture of banquettes and tables (including 7 booths). The banquette seating is very " cozy " as tables are about 12-18 inches apart (just like Happy Day Cafe). . Wifi from Starbucks . 3 unisex washrooms with a separate handicap washroom and no urinals. The washrooms were clean. The restaurant has narrow aisles that would make a wheelchair difficult to manoeuvre . Lots of strip mall parking. . Last week we had lunch at another recently opened Hong Kong Style restaurant - Happy Day Cafe. See my review.
A hit with customers who like the Hong Kong style dishes
As recommended by friends we tried this restaurant which is very popular with people from Hong Kong. All the dishes were cooked with Hong Kong flavour -- a fusion between Cantonese style and western style -- baked seafood rice, beef, pork chop etc. with spaghetti even sandwiches). I tried the braised ox-tongue spaghetti. It comes with a hot soup (HK style borscht) and a bun and a hot lemon tea. My husband tried the black pepper beef noodles. The portions are big. We could not finish and brought them home to eat as snack or another meal. Long lines of people at the door, but you can usually get a table quickly.
The Beauty Of Hong Kong Style Cafe - Many varieties at good price
Hong Kong style cafe has long been my favourite place to eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Recently, due to many properties with such kind of restaurant in Richmond are being demolished, the number has dropped a lot. Glad to see another new one back to the community. From what I saw yesterday, previous comments on coordination has resumed 90%. We have ordered 3 dishes of different varieties and they are all delicious and good value for money. The remaining 10% need to improve is to try to shorten the time from order to actual dish on the table. Will definitely visit them again.
Need improvement especially when one just started
Coordination amongst staff need to improve. Only manager puts on a happy face, but no one else. Orders are presented not in the correct order. Customers have to wait longer than necessary. Ambience and decor is above average for a Hong Kong style cafe. Portion is smaller than those in Vancouver East, but competitive in Richmond. Need to use less MSG.
