Eat here!
Support a local business that is a bit of a throwback in time. The menu offers a lot of choices and our items were well-prepared with reasonable portions. Good prices, as well. If you're travelling through don't miss this gem.
Mother's Day
Took my mother here for mother's day. Was busy and food was good. Hostess was very helpful in informing us of specials.
Old fashioned gem
Old fashioned restaurant with old charm and decor. If you are looking old school, this is the place. Antiques galore and an old school menu. Everything was homemade and fresh! Amazing desserts!
A tasty trip back in time!
We stopped for dinner the other night. We both work late and we have never gotten there on time before. Well it was a very pleasant dinner. It is like a trip back in time; but in a good way. Home cooked meals at a fair price. Everything was good. My wife and I tasted each otters selections and we both liked everything. We will definitely go back. It's byob of you want a glass of wine.
Unique Restaurant with Top Notch Friendly Service
Dining at Gibney's feels almost like having dinner at a friends. The staff are all super friendly and treat you like their own guest. Even the other customers said good night when they left. The menu is quite large with a nice selection of specials as well. It is like down home cooking. We had a couple of specials and then split one of their delicious homemade desserts (which they nicely split in the kitchen onto 2 plates). Wish we lived closer because we would love to dine here more often. Looking forward to the opportunity to return another time.
Not so good
We went there a few years back and it was disappointing the food really was not good and the restaurant is really outdated.
Good Food At Good Price, That Good Country Folk Delight In
You don't need to be driving into Carbondale, or going all the way into Scranton to stop here and get your county fare fix. Delightful down home atmosphere, with a menu from the regulars you'd expect to specialties freshly prepared. Worth it all to feel the way life has been here, for years, and what draws the locals back!
Family style restaurant
Visited Gibneys for dinner. Each of us had a nice meal, fresh salad and dinner that was cooked well. The outside of this restaurant looks like a house, but the inside is furnished nicely and kept clean. It has been around for many years and treats its customers like family.
Disappointed!
Liver and onion dinner overcooked and burned. Second dinner also overcooked. Salad skimpy and no evidence of fresh grown produce as in another review. No bread dish, had to use napkins. Won't return
fun times
I use to come here with my grandparent and eat with them during the summer after they picked me up from gymnastic practice or even have brunch with them
Perfect Place for home style food!
I had the meat loaf which was excellent! My friend and her niece had the chicken and dumplings and crab cakes. The pies / desserts were yummy! Definitely recommend this place!we were up here camping. This place was not in GPS.
Old Fashioned restaurant with good food
This is a great place and we really like all the effort these folks put into their food. The service is good, and very friendly. No alcohol, but I'm sure you could bring your own if you want to. Just my two cents.
Old Fashioned Roadside Restaurant
This is your local old fashioned roadside restaurant. It has a lot of classics and the food is down home American style. The liver and onions was fresh and plentiful. The scallop plate was a little disappointing, but for this area, seafood is hard to get and most is frozen. The seafood plate was also a selection of pre-frozen and then fried items, small portions. The squash was freeze and sweet. The French fries were good. The dessert, an amaretto mouse was great. The décor is dated and the men's bathroom has a window in it with a curtain, look behind the curtain and it looks like a storage area behind there. Very odd. I was told this restaurant was on the top of Farview Mountain, and so it is. Do not expect any mountain views from the restaurant. It is your small roadside restaurant. It is popular with the elderly locals. Service was friendly and excellent.
Inexpensive
When we arrived the dining room was hot. They didn't have the air conditioning on in the main room. Server was nice. Food was good but uninspired. Price was reasonable carpet in dining room was musty. Place looked dated. Dark inside. Mostly older people there when we were there. Two tables. Urinal in bathroom didn't flush. Would pass on this place
Home Cooked Meal with Friends is well worth the trip
Walking into Gibney's is like walking into a family dining room. This restaurant out in the middle of no where was filled with friendly conversation before we arrived and a warm fireplace. It has been in the family for several generations. Ruthie had liver and onions. Ray had a salad too big to take home. Chet had Cordon Blue and French Fries - that was before we started Weight Watchers! lol I had Chicken Parmegean. Lightly season. The chef was doing dishes when I went out to great Sandy. Save room for dessert!! Homemade pies are out of this world!! I had Rhubarb. Chet had Cherry. Ruth had Apple and Ray was good. :>)
Homemade food, good prices
While out in Waymart, PA, my wife and I went to Gibney's for dinner. We have been there before and both had a yen for their honey dipped fried chicken. It was delicious as usual. The restaurant is not fancy, but the service is friendly, the food is homemade, and the prices are good... and don't forget dessert. Their pies are wonderful. One thing, you need to get their by 7 PM as they stop serving by then.
Homestyle Cooking at Reasonable Prices
Gibney's is a cozy, rustic restaurant with friendly service. It's a BYOB establishment, but they happily obliged my husband and me by opening our bottle of wine and supplying 2 wine glasses. The food is homemade and the variety is good, ranging from sandwiches to dinners. My husband had the liver and onions while I had the fresh pork. The desserts are also homemade. We tried the pumpkin pie and it was delicious! Gibney's is a great place to stop if you are going to or from the towns of Waymart or Honesdale, PA. Antler Ridge winery is nearby and worth a stop.
