Under Construction
This unfortunately was under construction in April 2025 so not much to see or experience. It would have been fun to try though.
Currently not operational!
Not operational today. The stairs up were ok but the hotel didn't know it was closed. Not at all clear when it will reopen.
Fun, quick ride that saves you some steps
The funicular is a fun quick ride that saves you walking up some pretty steep steps to upper town in Zagreb. It's a little bit of history as the funicular is over 100 years old. More fun than it has any reason to be. It departs every 10 minutes, literally takes one minute, but smiles all around.
One of the shortest Funiculars in the World
A lovely little funicular - looks great from the top station where you get a view both of the railway itself, and across town. You can walk up to the top station without actually going by the funicular. Tickets cost just 66 cent using the Zet app or in person.
Short but enjoyable
Lovely to do, very inexpensive, Great to do for something different, Easily accessible for all. Worth taking a ride...
bad experience
I had an incredibly disappointing and upsetting experience with an employee of Uspinjača. Before I could even greet them with a " good morning, " I was met with hostility. The employee treated me rudely and went so far as to shout at me and my dog, completely unprovoked. Such behavior is unacceptable, especially in a customer-facing role. I expect a minimum standard of respect and professionalism, which was entirely absent in this interaction. I hope the company addresses this incident and ensures their staff is trained to treat all customers with dignity and courtesy.
A nice way to go up or down
A convenient way to go up or down from the hill. The distance is very Short and the price is very low. You can Enjoy the view.
Short funicular ride in downtown Zagreb
This is a relatively short ride down (or up) town. It was part of our museum pass, so we used it even though we could have walked. I'll appreciate it a lot more on the days we are riding it up!
Fun and cheap!
Fun and cheap experience! 0, 53 euros well worth it! There was no wait, took 2 minutes to go down, was good for the price we paid!
Always a treat
<1 euro a person for a 45 second funicular ride. Well worth it for the experience (and to save the stair walk). Easy on and easy off.
What's not to love about a funicular
Everyone needs to ride a funicular whenever they can! And this is a cute one, it's really more practical, it's debatable if it is a tourist attraction but it's a charming piece of history, cheap and a practical 'gets you up a hill'
Mini funicolare
Good Way to Get to the Old Town
Cheap, quick trip up to the old town which saves your legs for climbing the tower at the top and the many steps up and down as you explore the upper and lower town. Minimal waiting time to board when we were there - 2 running simultaneously, 1 going up, 1 going down.
Bah
Definirla un attrazione è forse troppo. Sicuramente divertente per i bambini piccoli. 63 secondi di puro divertimento….
Shortest way
The shortest funicular which I've ever seen. And the shortest trip! It's interesting place and the best way to go up. Recommend you to visit.
Our daughter loved the novelty!
It's a very short ride - but fun. And surprisingly handy for getting around the city. Despite being short the views from the top are worth using it alone!
Abusive
Zagreb is one of the friendliest cities we've visited. Unfortunately the conductor on this service was utterly rude, abusive and extraordinarily stupid. Take the steps, don't bother with this oaf.
Menor funicular do mundo
Menor funicular do mundo.
Short but fun
Nice little funicular that will save you a steep walk. Very inexpensive and fun! Plenty of shopping and cafes at the bottom.
Vale a pena!
Not worth even the 10p ticket
Takes 2 minutes max. almost quicker and easier to walk the steps. Fun to do for children but otherwise only for the very very lazy.
Interessante!
A entrada do acesso à escadaria é gratuita.
Oh Come On!
If you are incapacitated then OK take this option. But how did you get to the top or bottom of it? Aged under 90, then take the stairs.
Fun quick trip
This is the shortest funicular in the world but certainly worth the trip. It costs a bit under 50p each way. We'd walked up and down the steps rather than using the funicular a few times and it is quite a trek so the saving of the legs was great!
October 2022 visit
This place was 5 kuna each way. It is a quick and convenient way to go from upper and lower town, and vice versa. Blink and you missed it, it was quick. Worth doing once, unless you have mobility problems.
Quick ride to the top
The funicular provides a quick and cheap ride to the top. There is no need to take it back down, as it's a short and pleasant walk back.
Short but sweet!
Worth doing or at least seeing if you have the time. It was part of a walking tour we did, and we're glad to have experienced the brief ride!
Esperienza caratteristica
Do it
The best way to get to the Old City -- a 66 second ride. Fun and great views of down below. Need a ticket, small price and it runs regularly.
Gem to look at and to ride
Although the shortest of all funiculars, this Zagreb gem is so amazingly cute it is impossible not to love. Sure, you don't need to ride it to get up or down the hill, but why wouldn't you?
An easy way to access the upper town
This is a cheap and easy way to access the upper town. The service seems to run very frequently and there are people on hand to help with ticket purchase.
Shortest Funicular in the world
Zagreb Funicular is the shortest funicular in the world and also the oldest and first means of public transportation in Zagreb. Some may say there is no point to it, but that is also the fun of it. Its primary purpose is linking Lower Town and Upper Town. It is protected cultural monument since it kept its original structure and appearance.
Tourist trap
Takes 15 minutes to take a vertical tram 75 feet down or up in old Zagreb..... Skip it unless you're close.
very short ride
it is not an amusement ride ; it is just get you to the top section of the city avoiding the steps or walking up steep inclines.
Shortest Funicular
ending review It is the shortest funicular taking 60 seconds from top to bottom It will take you from the New town to the old town cost is 4 Kuna each way.
Cortissima
Consigliatissimo!
Takes about a minute. Nice views from the top
If you're not up for walking to Upper Town, take the funicular. Very quick trip, although you have to wait for the it to depart. It was included on my Zagreb Card.
Funtastic
It's fun and fantastic to travel by this shortest, just 66 mt, and steepest Funicular in the world that connects Lower Town to Upper Town. Considered to be started in 1888 with steam engine propelling later replaced by electrical engine. I was at the terminal point at Upper Town at noon by coincidence and startled by boom sound of cannon fire, and later came to know that there is an interesting legend behind this auditory explosion. People believe that a cannon shot was fired at noon from Lotrascak Tower, that landed at Turkish encampment, and Pasha was so scared and Zagreb escaped the invasion. Ever since the practice of firing Cannon continued from this Tower. There is cafe and a souvenir shop at this place. I walked around from this place and enjoyed the scintillating views of red roofed Lower Town and sky rocketing Spires of Cathedral. I also enjoyed melodious tunes played on Guitar by an elderly couple by the side of Funicular station. Memorable moments for me.
Fun
The World's Shortest Funicular is in Zagreb taking 64 second to go 217 feet up to the upper city. Even though it was a short ride it was fun. The upper city is where you see St. Mary's Church, Parliament, the government palace and many fine old buildings.
Old Lady of Zagreb
Old lady of Zagreb has already 128 years. It is the shortest in Europe. The ride is less than a minute. It is in old fashion style. I just love the ride in it. The cost of ride is 5 kuna. That's the price of ticket in one way. The personal of ZET Zagreb is more than pleasant. Te view at Zagreb on the top is fantastic. Must try it.
Funicular
The shortest cable car in the world. or over 120 years it has been transporting the citizens of Zagreb between the Upper and Lower Town. It departs daily every 10 minutes.
This cable car has been transporting people for over a century
It is not a spectacular ride and it takes only a minute, but is such a charming old-fashioned way to go to the upper town. The ride costs only 5 Kuna one-way
Such a fun ride
During our week long visit to Zagreb, we stayed, we rode the funicular more than 10 as we stayed a minute away. It was so much fun every single time. Funicular connects lower town to upper town. Its a joy watching a part of Zagreb unfold itself we ride it from bottom to up. Don't miss it while in Zagreb, it's only 4 Kuna a ticket. Also dont miss visiting the Lotrščak Tower at the upper end of funicular.
Pequeno passeio
Shortest Funicular in the world
I understand that this is the shortest Funicular in the world. Not sure about that but it really is pretty short. Fun ride up the hill, cheap and beats walking
Short ride but still a 'fun'icular
Finding a funicular is a favorite part of traveling. This one was short and utilitarian, but it was cheap and saved me from walking up the hill to see the amazing views of the city and visit St Mark's Church.
Nice view from the top
It's worth doing the trip with the funicular, as it is the shortest in the world. It is quite cheap. The view from the top is amazing.
Antica
A nice, short ride !
The Zagreb funicular is the world's shortest cable railway used for public transport. The 64-second ride covers a distance of 66 meters between the Lower and Upper Towns. The lower station is at the end of Tomiceva Street, a side street of the main shopping street Ilica. The price of a ticket is 4, 00 Kuna (approx. € 0, 5). Tickets can be bought at the operator's cabin on the lower station or by the driver at the upper station. It's a nice ride and from the upper station at the base of Lotrscak Tower it is just a short walk to the St. Mark's Square with the Government buildings and the beautiful St. Mark's Church. The funicular departs daily every 10 minutes. From the Upper Town it's an easy walk going back down via either the Ulica Radica or the very lively Tkalciceva Ulica with the many bars, restaurants and shops. Have fun on the shortest cable railway !
Fantastic views
Only 40 seconds from bottom to top, or vice versa, however the view is spectacular and worth it. The alternative is not for the weak-legged as any alternative involves a climb, but the view from the top is superb. You can pay direct for this an, if memory serves me right worked out at roughly 50p each way but better value is to buy a 24 hour / 1 day tram ticket for 30 Kuna (roughly £3) and includes the funicular.
Mini esperienza
Interesting Transportation up the Hill
The city of Zagreb has a higher level that they call the upper town and the lower town. The Zagreb Funicular connects Ilica Street to the north. The track is only 217 ft making it one of the shortest funiculars in the world. It was built in 1890 and has been in operation since April 23, 1893. 2 cars hold 28 passengers each (16 seated and 12 standing places) and it takes 55 seconds to make it's run. It's a fun experience. Ljubljana, Slovenia has a funicular also that takes passengers to and from the castle.
Unnecessary but fun
This is one of the shortest funiculars I have ever encountered. I don't know if the ride even takes a full minute. But it's cheap and it does save you a rather severe set of stairs and it drops you off right at the entrance to the Lotrscak Tower. There's no NEED for it unless you have mobility issues, but it's kind of fun nonetheless.
Wish we Found the Funicular Sooner
So we walked up to the Zagreb upper town.. wished we had found the funicular sooner. At least we got some good exercise walking up. Took the funicular for the very short ride down just to ride it. The funicular's story.. The small Zagreb Funicular opened in 1893 with steam engines that were replaced to electric engines in 1934. The length of the line is only 66 meters (217 ft) which makes it one of the shortest funiculars in the world. But at the same time it ascends 30.5 meters (100 ft) which gives in an inclination of 52%, so it's also one of the steepest funiculars in the world. The entire ride takes 55 seconds, so sit back and enjoy the view.
Towards the Best Sight of Zagreb
when sightseeing, make sure you don't miss the funicular, and then clime onto the Lotrscak tower overlooking the funicular's top station. Absolutely the best view of the city. The funicular takes only 1 minute to ride, make sure you stand on the side facing the city, not the hill, and wait... At the top station, exit right and you'll get to a terrace with the view. The main square and Cathedral are to the left, ahead of you is the 'lower town' and New Zagreb stretching to the South. Behind your back there will be the Lotrscak tower.
Fahrpreis 4 HRK, also sehr preiswert!
Thought I'd give it a go!
Nothing amazing... just a simple cable car ride really. Quicker than walking up the hill. It runs every 10 mins
way up
a nice way to get to the upper town - the ride takes only 35 seconds and with a day ticket it is for free
Lovely to try
It's old public transportation in Zagreb. Lovely to try even only connect from up town to Illica street. Something different because not all city have funicula like this. The price only 5 kuna.
funny little ride from the lower town to the upper town
We went for a ride from the lower town to the upper town on the Funicular Railway. its a very short trip of about 1 min. the coat is only 5 K 's (under one dollar) you can walk up a path (its not too far) but its a fun little trip & the view is good. give a go.
Pintoresco
Fun way to avoid a long climb to Upper Town if you need it
Being an American, you just don't get to ride on a funicular very often and although this one is a relatively short ride, it is a comfortable ride to Upper Town, particularly for those who may need assistance to get from Lower to Upper. Nice view on the way up as well!
Zagreb
It's a FUN -icular trip
Literally over in minutes, but worth it for the views when you get to the viewpoint at the top. We did this as part of an organised walking tour, which helped, as we got some of the history behind this experience. We were there in October, so pretty much walked on. dread to think how long the wait would be in the height of summer, as it is down as a " should do " when in Zagreb
DONT MISS - FUN ride
Very old but that funicular we born in Zagreb are proud of. Is very cheap + during Advent weekends is free of charge. You could reach Old town Zagreb and have a wonderful look at down town-
Quaint
This is a pretty little funicular railway. It really is tiny, only taking about a minute to complete the ride. It's a bit of a novelty but also functional in taking you up to the higher part of town.
A short ride
There are many funiculars in different towns in Europe. This one minute ride is the Zagreb Funicular. Do it in fun with no expectations
Not a tourist attraction
A 90 second ride up. Tickets purchased are one way only. When you get to the top there's the opportunity to climb up the tower Zagreb eye, through the door marked tourist information and have good views of the city.
It's just fun to go up but not essential
It's an easy walk down from the castle so it should be an easy walk up from the market. And the view you obtain from the castle and surrounds is better than the funicular. We prefer walking and enjoying that ambience and if you are short on funds put the towards the castle tower.. that's great.
Great Views of Zagreb
It gives only a short trip but it saves people the climb up the hill to St Mark's. Stand or sit at the back for the best views of the city as the train climbs.
Cute little short experience
Not a must do but can do, if nothing else but to tick the list of having travelled in the shortest funicular. To be fair it is definitely the shortest and easiest way up. Views are ok but not exactly outstanding as you just about manage to go above the roof level. Ultimately, it comes down to whether you mind the price, the short time saving or whether you are one of those tourists who wants to tick all the boxes.
Underwhelming
I guess this is a historical experience but definitely underwhelming. Not sure it is worth the time as it only covers a few hundred meters and doesn't really go anywhere...
Nice small ride
There is a short climb from the " Lower Town " of Zagreb to the " Upper Town ". The Upper Town is a historical center of the old Zagreb which is a " must see ". To make this climb easier, from Tomiceva Street there is this nice old Funicula (or cable railway) which takes you in about a minute to the Upper Town. It's not a big sensation, but it's made many years ago, and it's nice
Great fun (and saves your legs)
This is a cheap way to travel from the new town to the old. At the top, the views are stunning and you can go into the tourist information and pick up a very hand 'walking map' to ensure you don't miss any sights. You can also pay a small fee to climb the tower for the best views across the city. Stay around and watch the canon fire at midday for a real treat.
Einfach nostalgisch.
Short trip but don't miss the ride
You could easy walk down the stairs but where is the fun in that. We took the propbably last ride down in the evening and got lovely photos. No worries about the schedule. What goes up need to come down again. Here it's a tandam wagon. No matter which direction, going down you are right now in the buzzling shopping street with a lot of restaurants and Bars around, going up same without shopping.
tiny but worth using!
great on hot days, tiny distance but well worth using on the way up to the upper town. We walked down to see a different view
Short but magical trip!
Very short ride untill the top but it is a nice sensation and you can see the view of the city. So worth it :)
Over- rated but good
Funicular Railway in zagreb is a bit over- rated. Its really too short a ride to really get the best of a Funicular. But once on top, you get a lovely view of this beautiful city. For that alone, it is worth it.
Sixty Seconds of Fun
A great way to get to the top of the hill for a striking view of the city. Then, a great way to get back down to the street where there are plenty of shops and restaurants to peruse. I believe this is the world's shortest Funicular.
romantic, short drive like praline its gone in a minute
Love it, it feels like a luxury because this city lost its biggest funicular railway 10 years ago that connected Sljeme 1000 m high top of mountin Medvednica with its bottom, and this is still the biggest technological vehicle for luxury after 100 years:-) lol, worth taking that drive
Zabytek i atrakcja
Zagrebačka uspinjača to najkrótsza w Europie torowa kolejka górska. Czas przejazdu to kilka sekund.
Short, but steep
Zagreb Funicular Railway (uspinjača) connects the Lower and the Upper Town. It is situated in Tomić Street and is continuously in operation since 1893. It is one of the shortest funiculars in the world, only 66 meters, but it is also one of the steepest with height difference of 30, 5 meters (inclination is 52%). It has one car for 28 passengers in every direction and the travel lasts just a few minutes, but it is an amusing ride with great view.
Possibly the shortest funicular in the world
Angel's Flight in LA may actually be shorter, but only by a few feet. This little guy lifts you from the lower to the upper (and historically more interesting) town in Zagreb. Not a destination location, but if you're in the neighborhood, especially if it's hot, it's a pleasant blessing.
Shortest funicular in the world
We didn't get on, but we saw it many times, as we were walking around. Iconic for Zagreb, cute for a photo. People are using it in order not to climb the hill that leads to the Upper Town.
One minute up to wonderful view !
Funicular is fantastic way to start the walking tour of the upper town, it cost only 3 kunas and it will bring you right to the terrace of an old south gate to the old town. It is known as one of the shortest railways in the world, only 66meters long! From here you can observe the whole Down town Zagreb, which was build after the 1880 in typical Austro-Hungarian style, with classical and very decorated buildings. After you have captured this view, you may enter through Dverce (place where the fifth gate use to exist) and climb to Lotrscak tower for even more spectacular view. Once you are back down, you are ready to explore St. Katharine square and the rest of the upper town.
curioso
Quirky
Very quick journey, about 5min total, very cheap, good views from the top, takes you to where all the museums are located
Super suggestiva
