CONDO # 24 KUILIMA EAST TURTLE BAY OKAY BUT NOT LIKE THE BROCHURE!

We stayed in # 24 in Kuilima East, we booked for 6 nights and stayed for 4. Good . clean tidy well appointed kitchen . nice outlook over golf course . very nicely decorated throughout . top floor corner position . reasonably comfortable bed . good 10kg washer and dryer . nice table and chairs on the balcony for meals overlooking the garden and the golf course . the golf course is out of action which means a great place for walks . good quality beach towels and well provided bath towels . easy walk to Turtle Bay and swimming beach . one car space numbered 24 . easy to get the local bus up the north shore BAD . extremely strict and over zealous management (we got a warning / citation for hanging beach towels over the balcony after being here for less than three hours) he was standing under our balcony taking pictures! . no where practical to hang damp beach towels . extremely strict rule book, make sure you read it as soon as you arrive! . tired and musty . equipment supplies like beach chairs etc are rusted and need to be replaced . lounge is very uncomfortable (sofa bed) and the other two chairs are pretty to look at but very uncomfortable and impractical . bath is very small and shallow no relaxing soak here! and the shower over head requires instructions to operate that we had to ask for a couple of times . LOUD air conditioning unit directly under the bedroom window that ran nonstop 24 / 7 . loud neighbours on the balcony directly opposite 20ft from our bedroom window . aloof and unhelpful management

Condos at Turtle Bay Oahu

These are condos, one set on the east of the hotel entry and the other on the west. Built in the 70's with landscaping, pools and parking. We have stayed on both sides many times over the years but in the last 3 years many of the units were purchased for millions by vaca rental owners living off island. Many if not most have been remodeled numerous times. The rental prices have shot up over the last few years many exceeding $600 per night and many allowing large groups in a simple two bedroom. The grounds are not as lush as in the past, particularly on the west side but still lovely and all the pools are quite nice. Lately many owners are charging for parking (really greedy since parking is included when they are bought) as well as a resort fee although they are not part of the resort a short walk away. Seems unfair since the beach is public and the resort allows anyone to dine, schedule a massage etc. only the resort pool is unavailable unless you are hotel guests. Prices at the restaurants and activities are quite high. A Mai tai is $25! And a dinner for two at any of the restaurants will run close to $200 per couple. Located on Oahu's north shore an hour from Honolulu traffic is a nightmare and unless you surf or play golf there is little to do besides a day at the beach. But not in the winter when the North Shores famous huge waves arrive. The town of Haleiwa has little charm, basically a town of tourist shops selling junk from China. I realize that everything changes but having come here for the last 25 years the only good change is the resort remodel took it up several notches but it is now totally unaffordable for most.

Just OK

The bed we slept on was very uncomfortable. Hard mattress to a point I would wake up and have to reposition bc I was sore from laying in one spot too long. Husband c / o achy back in morning. The only air conditioner was a window box in bedroom. Did not work that great, and would get hot at night. Shower head in one of the bathrooms had lost its seal and when turned on water would leak all around the sides. The other bathroom shower was OK though. The equipment left for guests to use was rundown, and in need of updating or replaced. The condo was clean, and served our needs for the most part. I wouldn't stay again though. Depending on how well the owner maintains his / her condo is what you're going to get.

Bumbling of Multiple Issues at Estates at Turtle Bay

Ditch digging with a backhoe on adjacent property created noise and fumes. Terrible. No communication / warning that work was to be done. Additionally, water seeped through the floor and soaked the ground floor bedroom carpet. Actual mushrooms sprouted at the baseboards. Estates at Turtle Bay AND VRBO both apologized verbally and said we were not entitled to any refund for our inconvenience or trouble.

This property is the best deal for staying on the north coast!

My family of 3 really enjoyed our time here at this property. We were close to Turtle Bay resort and the trails and beaches in the area. Also, the kitchen has everything you need for cooking a meal, making toast, storing leftovers, etc. The bedroom bed is really comfortable and the hideaway sofa sleeper bed was great for my daughter. The lanai was an added bonus for stretching out. We would definitely stay here again!

They will ruin your trip!

I wouldn't recommend to stay here to anybody. The pictures look good but the place is awful. they had plagues,. huge roaches in the bathroom and kitchen, ants in the kitchen as well. the lawn guys come super early and make a LOT of noises with their machine impossible to sleep. The is a colony of birds super loud as well. wifi is terrible TERRIBLE. The staff was not helpful at all. it was a complete disaster. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

BEWARE of major last minute changes to reservation

I made a reservation in June for a 3 bedroom condo for 3 couples to attend a wedding in December. In October, I received an email saying my reservation was being changed to a 2 bedroom " due to unfortunate circumstances out of our control ". They didn't even have the decency to call me for this big of a change. I tried calling them, left a message and did not get a response. Then I emailed and asked for my reservation to be refunded. I got an email response stating that I would be charged a cancelation fee!!! This is outrageous!!! The resort cancelled my reservation and moved me to a condo that I did not book with less bedrooms. This condo does not accommodate our 3 couples. We reserved THREE bedrooms. The very least they could do is fully refund me.

Condo 21 Turtle Bay, Estates at Turtle Bay

I've posted this review in several places because I think it's important that people know what they're getting into when renting from this company. Unfortunately our stay was pretty awful, and ultimately we left. We checked in on a Friday and noticed that the condo was nothing like it appeared on the website. Instead of looking bright, clean and remodeled, it was dirty and run down. We called management right away and they sent a housekeeper over. She really couldn't do much though... so we don't blame the housekeeper. She cleaned up all of the dead bugs, pubic hair off the bathroom floor and wiped down the counters. By Saturday morning we realized that it was MUCH more... broken fridge, the dryer vent wasn't hooked up, my daughter's bed was broken, the jacuzzi tub didn't work (not that we would've sat in the dirty tub without thoroughly cleaning it), an outlet in the kitchen didn't work, bugs galore (every kind you could imagine), the air conditioner didn't work properly (but how could it with windows that wouldn't shut?) the master bed was filthy disgusting behind it and it felt like we were sleeping on the box spring. Probably the most alarming thing we saw was the giant rat trap in front of a hole under the sink. The place smelled of mildew too. So, I called a couple of times and left a message once (although they say I didn't) and sent several emails (I later found out to the wrong email address!). Didn't hear from anyone and realized we'd have to wait until Monday, when I called. The only thing this company offered was to send someone over, or we could leave and they would refund us for the rest of our days. Nothing for the miserable weekend we spent there... we couldn't even do our laundry if we wanted to dry it. I will absolutely be writing reviews and finding out what the recourse is for a company that falsely advertises their condo. It's absolutely shameful.

Great Stay!

My wife and I stayed at this location a few days ago. This location offers all sorts of great things. There is a pool, BBQ, walking distances to Turtle Bay, Horse Ranch, Banyon Tree, and the list goes on. We had a two bedroom, very spacious, full kitchen, washer dryer and much more. My only complaint is that the sevice was really slow. We had to write to them because our phone wasnt working in the room, we only had a reply once we checked out. Because of their slow response, we never got to use the phone like we needed to.

great location

We loved our stay here in apartment 38. Apartment had everything we needed and was very clean comfy and beautifully furnished. Had a great view over the golf course and right next to the swimming pool which was awesome to chill out in. A great base to explore the North Shore. Beach chairs and beach towels were provided which was awesome. A beach umbrella would have been nice too. Area was quiet and safe. Would definately stay in this apartment again.

REVIEW OF 24 WEST

The one good thing about this unit is its location. Tutle Bay resort is beautiful and this unit overlooks the golf course. When we booked this condo it was a little cheaper than some of its neighbouring units. I had assumed that it was smaller or that the owner was anxious to rent it out. We were not told at any point that it was run down and dirty. I did research Condo rental companies before booking this condo. We were in Maui last year and had excellent luck with a property management company. We picked Estates at Turtle Bay over the competitors because of their higher reviews and their claims that all of the units are well maintained. This was a mistake. Among our complaints, in no particular order: -The kitchen cabinets smelled and the knobs and surrounding areas on the doors are grimy and sticky. -the inside of the cabinets smell moldy -we found 4 cockroaches during our stay and bugs crawling on the bedroom walls at night -there is some mould in the bathrooms -there is rust on the metal vents -a few of the lights don't work -the furniture is run down -the arms on the kitchen chairs are sticky and grimy -the screens on the windows in the kitchen and bedrooms are filthy with dust and grime -the couch is old and uncomfortable, luckily we didn't need it as a bed -the beds are lumpy as are the pillows -the kitchen is under stocked, there are only 3 good mugs and not enough cutlery. We had to wash by hand to avoid running the dishwasher after every meal -the dishwasher does a horrible job, all of the glassware is covered in a film -the security locks on the patio doors are missing except for one door -there are water damage stains on the ceilings and evidence of patching that has not been done very well This company does not stand behind their product. The reviews on their website of this unit are all positive. I have no idea how that is possible.

Nice location but disappointing condo HALE LILLY # 22

We rented the HALE LILLY condo through the Estates at Turtle Bay this past February. I'm just getting around to this review now. We have rented several different condos in the Hawaiian Islands and this one by far was the worst. The location on the First fairway was wonderful but the condo was old and not updated. Carpets were filthy and likely original from the 80's. Kitchen was missing cutlery and the towels smelled so bad we couldn't use them. When we complained they did bring fresh towels but really they should have provided this without being asked. Its really a shame that they don't spend the few dollars updating and cleaning, as this is a wonderful location. If you visit the rental page for The Estates at Turtle bay, almost all of the reviews are 5*. I tried to put up a review and couldn't find anyway to do so. Not sure

Excellent condo and owner!!

Recently stayed at Kuilima East Condo 131 at Turtle Bay and had a nice visit. The owner was great to deal with and the condo was exceptionally clean and well appointed. It had everything you could want for a relaxing visit to the North Shore. We used the beach umbrella pretty much every day... that's a luxury you don't always find with a condo rental. The a / c was refreshing after a long day at the beach, and w / d came in handy. We never even turned on the TV. We enjoyed the Turtle Bay grounds and its many trails around the property, along with the secluded beach areas that were perfect for sunsets. The ONLY negative about staying here, and it's not concerning the condo itself, is the upstairs unit has VERY NOISY occupants. I assume they live there only because they had a dog. But they were either replacing their floors or just stomping constantly. Normally, I wouldn't care but this was beyond normal condo noise... this was CONSTANT. Other than that, everything was awesome!

Read Reviews of the specific unit you are renting before you pay. Review of Unit 63 East

We stayed in Unit 63 East April 2017. The unit is as shown in pictures. You can tell that the owners recently updated stuff like the bed in the loft, and the sliding door in the back porch. The place is roomy, lots of natural light and air if the lanai's are kept open (screen on). The ceiling fans circulates the air in the units fairly well. We did not need to turn on the AC for our whole stay. We had some minor issues with the toilette, the mosquitos in the areas are pretty bad, there are lots. You will see kids in the pool with mosquito bites. My kids got bitten multiple times. For those that are sensitive to insects, you might want to consider staying somewhere else. We only encountered mosquitos and aunts in the north shore, not in Waikiki, none in Ko O lina, we were in the island for 17 nights. The owners are very responsive to questions. The neighbours across the door is not a fan of children. Upon arriving she talked to us 2x about kids and the noise (we might create). We did not appreciate that at all, considering we just arrived. The beach in turtle bay is an easy 10 minute walk or less, the waves could still be pretty harsh for small kids. The condo is equip with snorkels, boogie boards, chairs, stuff for golfing and tennis etc. The condo has a peaceful ambience (minus the unfriendly retiree lady lol). It is far from Waikiki, I timed the monday morning traffice from parking lot of this place to Waikiki Duke Statue is 125 minutes. without traffice could be 50 minutes or so. But there is always construction as well, so give your self 70 mins to go to waikiki at all time. The drive to the north shore is breath taking. There are a lot of good eateries from fancy to hole in the wall place in the area. try Papa Ole's and Korean Bbq for $15 meals that tasted like you paid $40 for it. The manager of the compound is not that helpful. The security that roams around are friendly. There's a few security measures that are visible like that cameras in the pool and the entrance. Makes you think if it is safe to be walking around at night and what is the reason they have multiple cameras around. The pools is nice and we mostly have it to our selves. It looks well maintained. Read reviews of the specific units you are renting. There are a lot that are run down and has old appliances etc inside. There are some that are newly renovated. Again, read reviews of guest they had rented to.

Do your research! Not all condos are created equally

We rented two condos at this property. One, the Pineapple Delight, was wonderful. The other, Takhoma, was terrible with rock hard beds, lizards, lizard poop in the kids beds, ants, and screaming children in the middle of the night from the permanent rental tenants downstairs. When we reported the problems, the children were brought a dirty lawn furniture pad to sleep on in lieu of the beds with the lizard poop. The adults were brought a mattress cover with no padding. The lizard poop was swept up by their staff, put in the garbage can in the children's room and left there. We asked for a discount due to these issues and were denied because the management firm indicated they had " taken care of our issues. " All units need updated for the price and the maintenance issues. Air conditioning is only in the bedrooms and they will come in and turn it off if you leave it on and leave your unit. Overall, wouldn't stay here again, but we did have a great vacation on Oahu's north shore despite these inconveniences.

Fairly comfortable but poorly managed

During our 3-day stay was impossible to find an individual to speak with to help problem solve. We were there for a combo of work / wedding attendance. They advertise Internet access but what they neglect to tell us is access is for a max of 5 minutes at a time. EXTREMELY frustrating and made accomplishing our work needs very difficult. This is not a big deal but at this price the toilet paper should not be single ply!

kuilima estates 071 west

Basic condo at kuilima estates, dinosaur air conditioner in bedroom, way to loud, bathroom seems ok till you look at tub, completely worn out, bottom of tub moves, not that you would want to but pull to change shower to tub water is permanently screwed to shower, shower curtain was moldy, kitchen was clean, microwave was hidden in kitchen closet, weird. Living room was clean nice view of golf course except they mow the greens at 5 am right outside window, ha. I have stayed at better, bathroom tub was gross.

Our favorite place to stay in Oahu

We love staying in the condos hosted by Estates at Turtle Bay. We've done it a few times now, and it is by far our favorite place to stay on Oahu. Each time, we've had nothing but positive experiences from start to finish! Our units have always been very clean, adequately supplied, and well furnished. The pictures and descriptions on the website are actually good representation of the actual condition of the unit. Each unit we've stayed in had a different ambiance, style, arrangement, all matching what we saw on the website. Overall, all of them had a very laid-back feel to the units- you are there to relax, not to be a super busy tourist. We've never had an issue with broken appliances, dirty furnishings, missing supplies, etc. The rules of the property are strictly enforced, which is why the place is never trashed or noisy. The location can't be beat. It's on the northern-most point of Oahu, with the most picturesque beaches and tropics. It's just far enough from the big surfing areas, so that you don't have to deal with the noise. You don't hear any cars or tons of tourists here, you just open your window slats and listen to the awesome ocean breeze. It's close enough to walk to the Turtle Bay Resort, and just a short drive from North Shore Beaches or Polynesian Cultural Center. Its location truly is a getaway in paradise. In terms of working with the E@TB company, I've had nothing but positive experiences with them. They've always been very responsive to any of my inquiries, regardless if it had to do with travel, billing, or questions while I'm on the property. On my most recent trip, we had to rent some baby-related equipment from a third party rental company. The people at E@TB worked with that rental company directly to make sure everything was delivered and set up by the time we arrived at the condo, which was a huge plus and made travel arrangements much easier. Also, booking was a breeze. The prices are very decent considering you're in a resort area. They were very up front about cost breakdown. Our interactions overall with the company have always gone well. If there is one major area of improvement, it's the fact that they don't have an office on property, but a 5 minute drive away. Having to drive a few miles to pick up and drop off keys isn't the most convenient option. Also, because there's no office on site, there's no 'concierge' that is available to help renters with touristy things like book tours, rent vehicles, find nice restaurants, etc. Having this extra amenity on the property would be a plus. In summary, we have been and continue to be fans of this property. And as long as they continue to operate in this way, we will continue to be their vacation renters!

We had 2 bedroom condo. It was fabulous, great view on the Arnold Palmer Golf course. We had a. BBQ a hammack. what more could we ask for. Our condo was huge and spacious. I will now chooses turtle bay condos over a hotel..

Turtle Bay- Stay and Play!

Get out of Waikiki and head to the north shore. Turtle Bay Resort is a far cry from the shopping, tourists, and frenetic pace- a great place to relax AND play. Two championship golf courses, world class surfing to watch, learn from experts or just enjoy. The Estates are a great value for the money and are in a lush tropical setting a short walk from the resort. Great for wedding guests, families, and group travellers.

Kulima Estates # 37 East Tiere Hale

This complex has a great location on the North Shore of Oahu. Unfortunately this unit was a disappointment. There are two bedrooms but the second is so small it's basically a closet. The whole place could use a good clean, the coffee table was covered with crumbs when we arrived, the bedroom window was filthy and sealed with duct tape and i don't know when the floors had been cleaned last. There wasn't even a broom or mop in the place if we had wanted to sweep the floor. The kitchen was poorly equipped and 1 roll of toilet paper provided for 4 days? The day after we arrived the pool area where the bbq's are was locked and remained locked until the morning we checked out.

125 East -- Remodeled and Clean

We stayed here at 125 East and had a great time. The condo was very clean, the kitchen and bathrooms were also recently remodeled. It has one bedroom two bath. Loved the fact that the pool was just outside and next to the building, very quick walk. The beach was a short 5-10 minute walk away at the resort area, you can also do a quick drive if your bringing a lot of gear, parking is free.

Nice condos are a good alternative to Turtle Bay Resort

We had stayed at the Turtle Bay Resort in the past and this time wanted a large place with a kitchen. We stayed at condo 50 in the east this time and I really enjoyed the place. It is a short 10 minute walk to the beach and the tennis courts and pool are right near the condo. I liked the quiet of being in the condos and having a kitchen and lots of room. It was hot at night as the condo only has room air conditioning but it was only a few nights it seemed too hot.

Perfect place to stay on the North Shore

My husband and I have stayed with the Estates twice and we'll always stay with them when we stay on the North Shore. Every unit is different. Conveniences of home and the resorts conveniences and the ocean a beautiful walk away. We love it here!!!!

Nice place

Our condo was clean and had all the accommodations of home. There was a lot of room for our family and friends, and the nights were quiet. The location was a nice out-of-the-way getaway from our usual Waikiki staycations, and eateries, stores, and beaches were close by. Having access to 3 pools and grills, the hotel, and beach cove were additional perks. The security staff weren't too friendly, but the grounds keepers smiled and waved when we saw them, and the woman we booked with was friendly. Other than the downstairs bedroom a / c not getting cold, we have no complaints. We'll definitely book here again.

2015-06-03 19:05:41

Paradise needs no Air Conditioning

We stayed at the Villas of Turtle Bay for a week. Great, great place and just a premium quality place to stay. Right on the beach and the patio featured a walk out to the beach or the pool. Would stay here again anytime. So now you are wondering why only four stars. The air conditioning was out in half the unit and there was a tick in the ceiling fan at high speed. In perspective, both were minor flaws, especially due to the fact that A / C was not needed due to a great climate. All we needed to do was open the window and turn down the fan. So why write this? The only reason I do is because I was in the facility inspection business and know that when these small issues exist, improvements can be made in the turn-over procedures. Because it was small, we elected not to report it while there, but did tell the maid upon departure.

Month Long Stay

Stayed here for 1 month on a Business trip with 2 other colleagues in 69 West, 3 bed condo. After a 1 month stay you really get to know a place. The location is close to many restaurants in and around Turtle bay resort. It's close to many surf spots which I had the pleasure of surfing including Sunset Beach and turtle Bay. The issues I found with our condo was that there was no A / C in the living room only the bedrooms ?? Our living room got very hot to say the least. There was a fan supplied but it didn't work. The main ceiling fan in the living room didn't work. The A / C's are very old and loud such that my 2 colleagues had to turn them off at night. Bed's are well used. Both me and my colleagues main room light didn't work so we could only use our bedside light. Our garden, courtyard area was overgrown and almost unusable. Having said that, the kitchen was big and well equipped. Pools were nice. Good for a week long stay. I think the problem with this place is that its about 30+ years old and bringing it into the 20th century would cost millions, hence their reluctance. At some stage the condo's being rented here will need a major overhaul.

Good Vacation

We were in 148 East. Overall we had a great stay. Arrival / late check in was easy except there was a car in our parking spot so had to deal with that but it was the owner and we just werent made aware of that ahead of time. The one thing that made it a bit difficult was the little steps that were very steep inside to the loft bed area. Our children were 3 & 5 and slept in the living room because I was too nervous that they would need down in the middle of the night. I saw this on another review after booking but it was too late to change it up. The washer & dryer were really great to have as well as the fully equiped kitchen! The location was great easy bach walk & great pool / bbq access. It is in a ver beautiful area! We would stay with this company again just not this unit with kiddos.

Yeah.... OK

We stay in Hawaii for a month each year and generally stay in a condo. On this occasion we opted for a North Shore experience on Oahu. As a comparison to other condos we have stayed at throughout the islands, this one rates as a 3 star at best. We enjoyed our time here, but as a value for money option, it was an average property. For a start, there are only air conditioners in the bedrooms: these are the below the window style which do repeated gear changes throughout the night (not good for the light sleeper). The bathrooms are very tired and cramped. The upstairs bathroom had one of those plastic capsule-type showers. The toilet had a slow leak and every now and then, water would noisily fill the cistern. The beds were firm but comfortable. The curtains in the bedrooms didn't do much to filter out the light. The unit is loft-styled and there are steep stairs to the upstairs sleeping accommodation. The lanai provided a nice view of the golf course and it was quite pleasant sitting out there. BBQ facilities were too far away and you needed to supply your own charcoal. The two swimming pools were very small. It should be noted that there is a mandatory $150 cleaning fee applied to all stays. The location is very good: walking distance to the bay and the walking trails. Our holiday rental (west 112) accommodated 6 people and would be a good budget stay for a family. All in all, an ok place.

Nice place to stay

The condo we rented (061 West) worked out very well for us - it was well maintained, clean and had everything we needed. The location was convenient. It was especially nice having the large deck off the kitchen area. Rental went very smoothly from picking up the keys, dropping them off and the return of the security deposit. Condos are very convenient to the beautiful beach (short drive or walk). Would stay here again.

Unit 26 West

This is a very hard review to write. All appears to be what was described so it a little difficult to complain. We booked for 4 night but have decided after 2 we should leave. Reasons to leave: very dark, gloomy place. Ventilation just doesn't happen. Air conditioners inadequate and extremely noisy. Balcony unusable due to extreme heat don't even think a ceiling fan would help. Window coverings don't cover. Main bathroom shower is useless, especially if you want to wash long hair. Shower rail in this bathroom falls down a lot. No windows in here, you have to use light which has another really noisy fan. The stairs to the second floor are extremely steep, yes they have rails but I felt very wary when going down. Would not recommend for elderly people or small children. Good points: there is a second bathroom with a great shower, still no window, same noisy fan. Master bed was comfy. Kitchen had been updated. Great wifi. Great location. To us the bad outweighs the good. I think the owners have spent money trying to do the place up, which is great. Unfortunately they should spend a little more. Overall if you want peace, quiet and like a comfortable temperature inside I would look elsewhere.

" Paradise in Paradise "

Unit # 62 is a spacious clean and well kept facility. It is a two story one bedroom loft, end unit with lots of light and two balconies. The owners have equipped it well and thoughtfully. We read reviews of the Turtle Bay estates condos and noticed that there were good and bad units which I attribute to different management companies and different ownership. # 62 East Kuilima is great and we will be back. There is more to see and do. We enjoyed our own breakfasts of papayas, toast and coffee on our deck serenaded by birds. Some evenings we came back to the condo to grill local fish (a real treat). We enjoyed having room for two to stretch out for a week and later while we did enjoy a room at the Sheraton Waikiki overlooking the ocean we both missed the tranquil beauty of Turtle bay and the spaciousness of our condo there. We used # 62 as base from which to explore the beaches of the North Coast and the villages of the North and east coasts of Oahu. We usually vacation at Kona - Waikaloa on Hawaii but this was a most enjoyable change.

Scared to sleep... bugs yuck

Location great, late check in went well, ground pretty and pool nice. Condo YUCK. Stayed 081 west. Was clean at quick look but next day realized how dirty it was. Needs deepclean. Saw what looked like cockroach with 5min walkin in. One night husband and I heard crunching crawling sound right behind bed board. Checked it out could not find issus. Slept with light on and saw Brown bug on head board. Not sure bed bug or not but gross. No bites on us and we checked beds on arrival so not leaning towards bed bugs but husband not very convinced. Our best guess is gekco was eating one of whatever they are when we heard the crunching. After leaving my husband informed me he killed total of 8 cockroaches. Back home and luggage not coming in house until I know we did not bring anything back. Warm weather brings bugs naturally so I expected to see many but not in my bedroom. 081 West outdated and dirty. many spaces in widows and doors for critters to enter. Stayed in Hawaii and never had issues in other condos. Guess u get what u pay for.

Kuilima East # 21 - Great property!

On a recent visit to the North Shore of Oahu we stayed at Kuilima East # 21 for a week. Kuilima East is in the Turtle Bay Resort, and is a great place to base your visit to the North Shore. It's a relatively short drive to all of the great surfing beaches, as well as to various tourist locations like the Polynesian Cultural Center. The unit itself is a one bedroom with a sleeper sofa in the living room. It is a garden-style unit on the first floor overlooking the golf course. With an ample kitchen, large closet, washer & dryer and newer furniture, we found this to be a very comfortable place to stay at a reasonable price. The condos are separate from the Turtle Bay Resort hotel, so while you can enioy the restaurants at the hotel, the hotel pool and golf do not come with the unit. Kuilima has its own pool, and there is public beach access on the grounds of the hotel, so you can enjoy the ocean as well. The owners were very easy to work with, and check-in / check-out were a breeze. I would definitely stay here again.

Kuilima East # 108 - wonderful!

My husband and I, plus our two teenaged girls, stayed at Kuilima East # 108 over Christmas. This is a two-bedroom, two-bath, fully-furnished unit, rented through VRBO. It was spotlessly clean, nicely furnished and had everything you could want, including beach chairs, towels and a small cooler. The condo is exactly like the pictures on VRBO. We could see the beach from the upstairs loft and also from the enclosed lanai, across the golf course. Walking to the beach along the golf cart path took about 15 minutes, the same amount of time it took to walk to the cove at nearby Turtle Bay resort. It's a two-level unit, and the girls appreciated the space of the big loft (two double beds plus a little sofa) to spread out; they remarked on how strong the free wi-fi signal was. Our room had a very comfortable king-sized bed and air conditioner. The rest of the condo is cooled only by fans and the trade winds, but that was enough while we were there. There are two small pools and tennis courts available, and our unit even had tennis rackets and balls to borrow. Turtle Bay is only a short drive from the shrimp trucks, two fresh fruit stands, numerous beaches and a grocery store. We ordered a cooked Christmas dinner from the local grocery store and it was fine. We had a wonderful time and would definitely return.

057 Estate at Turtle Bay

Wonderful stay, secluded condo, excellent and comfortable amenities.. all we wished for! Clean condo when we arrived, great pool with noone else, quality tennis court for free. Trips to beaches that were only 10 minutes drive max, very safe and secure. If coming back to Hawaii, we will definitely choose The Estates at Turtle Bay again!!

069 West Estates at Turtle Bay Hawaii

September 15 - 20, 2013 - My brother, sister-in-law, sister, my husband and myself took my dad to Hawaii to visit Pearl Harbor since he is a WWII vet and served in the Navy - we stayed at 069 West rented by Estates of Turtle Bay and had a wonderful time - the condo was very comfortable, clean and neat. We really had no issues with this condo and would highly recommend it to be considered for a stay at the north shore - the view of the golf course was really pretty and we very much enjoyed having our breakfast on the lanais each morning with the birds. We would definitely stay at this condo if we ever make another visit to the North Shore of Oahu. The rental agency was very pleasant to work with and answered any questions we had prior to our arrival.

Family of 5 and enjoyed

We have three kids and the unit (number 9) was very nice overall. Our porch was on the 9th or 1st hole facing west so saw the pretty sunsets. The place was well stocked to pick up items from grocery store and cook or eat in. The only issue (noted in other comments) was ants but with an ant trap it seemed to dissipate. Very close to the famous beaches and felt vet safe We have enjoyed ourselves

Not worth the price

We booked two condos side by side in February for an August family trip. In June we were advised that the management company was moving one party about as far away from the other as possible. Very disappointing, but the Estates at Turtle Bay management people made it sound like we were lucky to have a condo at all since it was peak season. This now meant my nieces and nephew had to walk through parking lots and along the road to visit grandma. Not ideal for 4 kids between 2 to 13 years old. Condo 009 on the west side was fairly disappointing. Ants, inadequate a / c, broken microwave, broken coffee table, rusty fridge, old furniture and one of the noisiest washing machines ever. The dryer vented into the condo, so every load warmed up the top floor. Not to mention that the power went out three times in a week. From 2-4 hours each time. Management company said we were lucky the power wasn't out for days, instead of hours. The loft had a ceiling fan which was about to fly off the ceiling when the 2 speed setting went from very slow to high. Needless to say the two lucky people who slept there were a sweaty bunch. The loft was so small, there wasn't room for a suitcase. But the other condo had a huge loft. Overall, the condo was adequate. Certainly not 'nice' or 'good'. We completely overpaid for the week. Live and learn. The management company office where you have to return the keys is a 10 minute drive. Hope you rented a car! The north shore was fabulous. Waimea, Haliewa, Polynesian Cultural Center, beaches and sunsets are what we will remember from mom's birthday trip. And the night we invited 16 family members to our condo for dinner and the power went out and we cooked everything on two hibachi's and ate by candlelight.

Excellent Place to stay on North Shore

My friends and I needed to stay in North Shore for a few days to attend a wedding. We stayed at Estates at Turtle Bay West # 014. We loved this condo. It had nice " beach " style décor, was clean, had an exceptionally well equipped kitchen, provided beach umbrellas and a chair or two, had plenty of linens and had 3 beds! Two full beds in the loft and a queen in the master bedroom. This unit is within easy walking distance to the Turtle Bay Resort (should you want to eat in the restaurant, shop or go to the bar), close to the tennis courts (there are courts on the West and East sides), close to a pool and overlooks the golf course. It has a great screened-in lanai which was a pleasant place to have breakfast and watch frustrated golfers. The only slight downside was that it isn't air conditioned BUT had multiple fans upstairs (3) that made it just fine for sleeping! The downstairs stayed cool through the night as well. A big plus was the in-unit washer and dryer AND the laundry detergent was provided. We were very pleased with the location and just about everything about this condo. We would definitely stay there again. A couple of things were difficult - finding the office to return the keys was a bit difficult - even finding the address of the office was difficult as the office isn't on site - turns out that the map and address are at the top of a brochure that was in the condo, but not in the information sent to me. We located it finally, by stopping at a gas station and asking a local! Also couldn't find any " check-out " instructions--lots of instructions about cancellations and refunds, but nothing about what to do with garbage, etc. Those, too, turned out to be in that same brochure. We also arrived at night and found it a bit difficult to find the numbers on the condos - best to get there during the day!

Great Place - Just a few ants from perfect

Our family stayed here and these estates had much to offer. There are several pools, and the tennis courts wee well maintained. We stayed in 012 West, which is on the ground floor. The patio opens up to a nice little yard, and just on the other side is a nice golf course. We could walk out the back door and be in the club house in a few minutes. Walk about 25 minutes further in the same direction and we were at the Turtle Bay Resort, which has a nice beach that anyone can use. We met the housekeeper, who was very nice and accommodating. This unit is set up nicely with two bedrooms - a master with a bedroom and another with two twins, and a loft with two more twin beds. The only draw back is that they don't manage an ant problem well. They will spray periodically, but not between visitors. They wanted to spray while we were there and we declined because our kids were with us, so they said they just skip it rather than reschedule. The little critters like to visit the kitchen.

Good and bad

We stayed in # 46 East and there's pros and cons with this unit. Pros: Large unit listed as 1 BR w / loft. Essentially, 2BR so if you're a family, it allows for ample space and for everyone to have their own private space. We were a fam of 5, 2 adults, 3 elementary school kids so the loft was a nice space for them. Covered lanai which was screened provided a nice outdoor space allowing for good cross breeze and no bugs. Of course, having a full kitchen and washer / dryer are huge pluses for a family going to the beach / pool and hiking. Cons: OLD. Exterior of refrigerator was rusting badly Paint is peeling in hallway bathroom. Loft was musty and strong acrid smell. Loft beds were very musty smelling. Liner on under part of the bed was coming off so it was difficult to see what was under there... Not sure if the acrid odor was from poor ventilation or urine. We found a used diaper under the bed in the master bedroom (discovered this only after we were doing our final run through when checking out). Half of the glasses and dishes in the cupboard were dirty... not sure if this was due to dishwasher or what. A few of the cooking utensils had melted cheese and gunk on it. Coffee filters NOT provided!!! Geez, $2 for a package 100+ at the superette 10 mins away... they can't provide you with some for your stay? We arrived on a weekend so we had to deal w / the emergency dispatch who was rather inept. The gate entry code did not work and we were given a gate fob for the wrong gate. Since it was the weekend, this could not b rectified until Monday. Dispatch said she reset the code to allow entry but it never worked. We paid $145 / night. At $100-110, it would have been a better value. This condo was economy at best (reminded me of a motel, actually) so, you have to weight the space it provided w / all of the negatives.

Worked great for our family!

I am currently writing this review from our condo 99E on the fabulous wifi. ;) Our family of 4 (kids are 6y & 9y) arrived right past midnight on Sat night (Sun morning, really). The property manager, Beverly (bless her heart), stayed awake, buzzed us in and gave us a quick rundown of our condo. If you are looking for luxury, this is not the place for you. But for a family like ours, looking for a place where the kids could feel at home and nothing is too fussy, THIS IS YOUR PLACE. First of all, the price was unbeatable. Right under $1000 for a week, including cleaning fees and taxes. The condo is one bedroom with a king bed and cools down nicely with just a fan and an open window (and I usually like my rooms super cool). The bed is comfortable and Beverly's linens are all clean and fresh. The kitchen, albeit dated, is clean and has everything you need. We hit Foodland (right down the street) and stocked up on breakfasts and snacks and were good to go. There is also a Kahuku Farms stand just down the road with all fresh fruits, fried bananas, BBQ chicken and pork skewers, and cold coconuts. We also keep going back to Ted's Bakery in Sunset and the Hula Grill in Haleiwa. The living room has an a / c unit and 2 couches (1 hide-a-bed) that works perfectly for my kids. It also has hardwood floors and a lanai with access to a little common yard area. My kids were very safe out there, playing around while we got ready for stuff. The unit is on the ground floor, with a private parking spot right out front and located right across the parking lot from a private, heated pool. This one also has a brand new washer and dryer that works fabulously. The whole complex is gated and feels pretty safe. The walk to the resort (and beach) is the eqivalent of about 3 blocks but is very " resorty " feeling: by the golf courses and along a private drive. And, of course, you are just a short drive to everything North Shore has to offer. I would recommend this place and especially this unit to anyone looking for a home base for their active family.

2013-02-25 12:29:22

Best of both worlds, these condos are the perfect location to explore the fabulous North Shore and have resort amenities!

Make sure you check the specific unit reviews as these condos are privately owned. Would recommend the management company we used, very good as was the one bedroom # 89. Older unit could use Reno but spotless and comfortable. Free parking a plus. Beautiful grounds and beach onsite, as well as beach shack and shave ice at the sport rental shop. Bicycle retals and dune buggy rentals available and more. Surf shop onsite. Would go back.

Kuilima Estates East # 75

We rented this unit as a vacation rental-what caught our eye was " Luxury " -so far from the truth-outfitted by Walmart-sparsely furnished-dirty-gas in the grill was barely full-ant traps on the counter where you prepare food / insecticide under the sink / bright lighting almost blinding with the white walls-no lamps, no phone, no hot tub (assumed with luxury there would be) pools are outdated. Ruined our trip! The laundry closet is a health hazard. The dryer vent stops in the closet so the air blows in the closet-you need to keep the door open in order for clothes to dry-not up to code-very substandard-DO NOT STAY HERE and ruin your vacation. I have extensive pictures that I can send to you-it will gross you out! No one around ever to help you-no maps-you are on your own

Kuilima Estates West - Condo 107

Family of six stayed in this unit that has two bedrooms and a loft. It is nicely decorated with all the needs of home (new appliances, washer-dryer, dishes, etc.) and a great location. Pool right outside the front door, gated parking with a numbered spot in front of the condo and the back door opens onto the third fairway of the Fazio golf course. Access to all hotel amenities and restaurants at the Resort. Shrimp trucks, Brigham Young University, Polynesian Cultural Centre and local faire heading north toward Laie (10 minute drive) and the best beaches (Sunset, Banzai, Pipeline, Shark's Cove for diving, Waimea Bay, etc) on Oahu less than 10 minutes heading south the other way. Surf town Haleiwa and the Dole Plantation within 15 minutes on the way to Waikiki which is no more than 45 minutes away in traffic. The owner was great to deal with, excellent communication. Would rent this unit again.

2012-11-20 03:38:53

Never thought I'd miss a hotel!

Condo rental for 2 nights, good location on the North Shore. Older accommodation farther away from the beach than advertised. Property management were not overly excited to help with check-in or wi-fi information. Husband had to kill two giant insects of an unknown nature, he is kindly sparing me the detail. Only a small a / c in the main living area, did not keep the place cool enough. Nice to have washer and dryer, but I would give it up for a bugless hotel room.

Estates at Turtle Bay Mgmt Company doing a poor job on maintenance

We rented Unit 21 from the Turtle Bay Mgmt Company. I believe that some units are managed by their individual owners and may be in better shape. Ours was not and here is a summary of our experience. Overall we were very disappointed in our experience at The Estates at Turtle Bay condo. We were in unit 21. We would not return. We knew the condos were older and may be a bit worn-out, but the amount of maintenance issues we had was incredible. It is obvious that the owner and / or management company does not do any preventative maintenance and only waits for guests to point out problems… and did we have problems. Here is our list. 1) Stifling heat, poor ventilation, insufficient window air conditioners. . We were attracted to this condo because it was described as being able to sleep six and it had 4 twin beds which were ideal for our group of adult women traveling together; however, given that two twin beds are in an upstairs loft that has no fan and no ventilation and no air conditioner, it was unbearably hot for two of our guests! . When we arrived, the condo was all closed up and well over 100 degrees inside. Took at least two days to get to a reasonable temperature in the common areas. The management company knew when we were arriving, they could have a process to open up the unit and get the cooling process started, especially since they know the air conditioner units are inadequate. . Something as simple as installing a ceiling fan in the loft would show at least a little effort to make the room inhabitable. I will give the management company some credit for delivering one portable fan for us to use after we complained. It was inadequate and when we asked for a 2nd fan. It took two days to get to us and they said they only had one more and had to go purchase it. Come on, they manage a lot of units in the area! 2) Cleanliness . Not only was the condo over 100 degrees when we arrived, but it was obvious it was not cleaned immediately before arrival. Probably cleaned after last guests but the dust level was high, floor corners with age old dirt accumulated, carpets stained, furniture worn and didn't seem too clean. . Overall very musty smell (may have been from broken dishwasher, see comment below). . Common pool was GREEN with algae. We went for a dip on day of arrival and literally the walls of the pool were covered in green algae. 3) Maintenance issues encountered First, I will say that except for the fan issue, the management company was responsive to request for maintenance repairs; however, it still meant we had at least one day with the problem and again points to the bigger issue of no preventative maintenance! . Front screen door broken. Slammed, when let go, did not latch. . Porch light out so when coming in at night could not see key in door . Dish washer had standing water (probably contributed to bad smell) . The two bedroom air conditioners inadequate. The upstairs air conditioner leaked and the carpet on that side of the room was totally soaked. I can only imagine the amount of mold growing under that carpet! . Clothes dryer had big hole in the lent screen so lent was going into the main vent hose. After doing a couple loads of beach towels, the dryer stopped drying. Main vent hose had to be cleaned before it would work again. . Back screen door did not lock (so did not feel comfortable leaving open at night to cool the condo) . Back screen drop down shades up / down mechanism broken. Since we wanted to keep the afternoon heat out, had to manually (very difficult) roll up and down. . Lack of fans upstairs (mentioned earlier) . Inadequate ceiling fan in living room. It barely turned and seemed about ready to stop working. Needs replacing. . Common pool green with algae (mentioned above) . Poor overall cleanliness of the condo (mentioned above)

Unit 018 West

This was the second time at the the condo's located near Turtle Bay, and the first time renting from The Estates at Turtle Bay. The rental process was straightforward and efficient. We were scheduled to arrive after office hours, so we had instructions on how to enter the condo, and the keys were waiting for us. The unit (18 West) was clean, and nicely decorated. The location was nice, with a great breeze flowing through the unit, so air conditioning was not necessary. The bed in the master bedroom was queen size, and had a great mattress. The beds in the loft were small (twins) and had comfortable mattresses. A couple of small quibbles. The dryer was noisy with a squeak. Also, it would have been great if there had been any beach toys, i. e. boogie board, beach towels, etc. We had a couple of random ants, but having been there before, we heeded warnings to make sure not to leave food out on the counters, and keep things in zip lock baggies, and promptly take out the trash, which worked fine. All in all, a good value for a comfortable condo, at a decent price, in a great location, which served as a good launching point for great days on the beach, and the wonderful North Shore.

Charges

We just spent a week in paradise with our family and friends for a wedding. We rented two condos for our family from the Estates at Turtle Bay # 109 and # 110 West. Family and friends rented condos from other agencies right next to us. The condo's were wonderful. One of our condo's was fully stocked the other had nothing. We moved twin beds to make king beds and rented a crib from the rental agency. We were able to cook in the condo's keep things in the fridge and enjoy the time with the family. However, upon our return we were notified that the condo's were left in " unacceptable " condition and that there was smoking in the room and drug paraphanalia and were charged an additional $300. We do not smoke nor do we do drugs. When I called the company to dispute the allegations they accused us of having more than the 5 guests in each condo and having children. I'm not sure who they thought the crib was for when we rented it from them. We were there with other people and there were people coming in and out of all the condos to visit and we did keep other children when parents went out at night. Prior to checking out we vacuumed, swept, threw the trash, did the dishes, cleaned the stove and fridge and washed the towels. We did not make beds or wash the linens. I did leave the vacuum cleaner out in the bedroom and the iron and ironing board in the hall and we did not seperate the beds. We also left all of our videos, books, water and sand toys there for the next guests to enjoy. I will not let this ruin our wonderful memory of the time we spent with our family in Hawaii, just a warning for people who rent from this agency. There are other agencies you can rent the condos from as well. Our friends have not experienced this fraud from the agencies they rented from. It is a very nice place on the golf course and close to the beach. I would recommend the condos just not the Estates at Turtle Bay.

Quiet, beautiful & spacious! Unit # 145 East

I love the North Shore and especially Turtle Bay.. I've stayed here back in the 80's when it was new and it is still a great place to stay.... older yes, but the grounds are gorgeous and impeccable. It's good to look at the units on the internet so this way you know what you are getting.... this unit was very nice and updated. Granite countertops (although this is not what you go to Hawaii for), newer vanities in the bathrooms etc. The kitchen was very well stocked with everything that I would have at home appliance wise, utensils, ironing board, beach chairs, boogie board. The only thing it didn't have (surprisingly) was a hair dryer. No problem.... I called the managing association and Marilyn advised she had an extra and to just come and pick it up... I did... she also mentioned most all units have them. It even had laundry soap for the washing machine, soap for the diswasher.... basically all the things you need to function for a week..... there were even some basic spices and vinegar in the cupboard. Unit was extremely clean. Several things to make a better stay for yourself..... when you leave the airport on your way up to the North Shore, stop at Costco (look up on the internet before you go) and get whatever food you think you might need.... also pick up your wine and whatever beer or liquor you like..... it's so much less expensive there! Being from NJ I couldn't believe they had a Costco there but it's the same as in NJ... especially get your milk... very expensive in Hawaii. When you stay at Turtle Bay you have the public beach access at Turtle Bay Resort.... use it! A great snorkeling place is at Shark Cove which is directly across from the Foodland... we found this to be better than Hanamaumau (something like that) on the other side of the island and everyone says it's wonderful.... Shark Cove is so much better for snorkeling and there are not a million people there. This is one little thing we loved... as you drive out of Turtle Bay Estates onto the main road... make a right... probably a quarter mile down on the left is a fruit and veggie stand.... stop there to get a fried bananna.... fruits & veggies are definitely expensive but so is everything in Hawaii. I've been fortunate in my life being able to travel quite a bit and seen quite a lot... the very best meal I've ever had in my life has been at the 21 Degrees North Restaurant at Turtle Bay Resort.... pricey yes.... worth it... definitely!!! I have to comment on the bug situation that I read about in other reviews. I'm a clean freak but I am also honest. Our unit was extremely clean.... the housekeeping could not have done a better job. You are in Hawaii and a lot of bugs exist in Hawaii.... if you leave your patio door open for a few minutes expect a bug to come in.... if you leave your front door open to bring in your luggage a bug can come in. If your unit is on the bottom floor on a cement slab there is a real possibility of ants.... just have common sense when reviewing. We will be back again as we love the area and the condos.....

Unit 162 East - UGH - was a total mess!

The blankets had stains - everyone of them. The Kitchen had a pet cockroach and the cabinets were dirty (inside and out) the carpets were beyond dirty and they were coming apart. We paid Turtle Bay Condo at 56-565 Kamehameha HWy in Kahuku Hawaii $376.79 for our 3 day stay. I would never recommend this unit OR C & C Realty, Inc (DBA Turtle Bay Condos) again. I called and emailed (2x's) to report the issues and got no response. It was just icky. Smelled musty too. The whole unit needs to be hosed out, remodeled (oh, did I mention that the bathroom vanity was propped into place by 2 2x4's?) and painted. It's just not right that they can charge that kind of money for such a crappy place.

2012-04-23 12:31:44

Unit 126

Turtle Bay Estates is a perfect place to stay to explore Oahu's North Shore. The loft Condo is a little dated but very liveable and clean. The kitchen is clean and has a dishwasher, microwave, modern stove, toaster, fridge and freezer and all the dishes and utensils you need to cook. There are boogie boards to use. Tennis courts and swimming pools are right across the street. Of course Turtle Bay Resort is there for you to enjoy the bars, shopping, restaurant, beach, snorkeling (although not much to see - Shark's Cove is MUCH better). I particularly like that the condos are fairly secure behind a security gate. Don't expect 5 star accomodations - this is a beach resort not the Hyatt Regency. Stay in Waikiki if you are the type that likes 500 thread count linens and fine upholstery. Use this place as a base to explore the North Shore - so many great beaches (Waimei, Sunset, Shark's Cove, Haleiwa). The North Shore is much more laid back than Waikiki. It's all about sand, surf, snorkeling, and shave ice.

Unit 75 east

Location was fantastic. The condo included all the beach gear you would need. There were a few down sides. Beware that there is no telephone in the unit! It does tell you this in the FAQ section of the contract but it really needs to be up front. The king size bed sheets were old and piled. We slept on top of the duvet. The condo really needs a good clean. The door frames, window sills and walls were unnecessarily dirty. The gas BBQ ran out of gas in the middle of making our meal one night. Can you believe it.. They didn't even have a kettle to boil water For tea in the unit.

country living on the north shore

Persons who do not enjoy the beauty of tropical nature, should avoid this location. The Floria and Fona are approching the most Beautiful!! on this planet. The temperature IS 80+ during the day, and 75 DEGREES IN THE evening. You come to Hawaii for the warm climate, If you can't STAND the temperature and breezes stay home. The condos are well kept, and should be treated as your home away fron home, KEEP IT CLEAN, especially in the kitchen, and you will Avoid the local CREATURES. You are provided, swimming pools, some of the world's best golf coures, WHALE WATCHING, SURFING, BACK PACKING, BIKING, HORSEBACK RIDING, AUDBON CENTER, SNORKLEING. THE BEST IN FRESH FISH, SWEET CORN, KALUA PORK, or just fresh fruits and VEGATABLES from the ROAD SIDE. you will have a chance to, COMMUNE with nature, Rest and relax. If you desire the fast lane parties, SHOWS, SHOP TILL you drop, stay in Wikiki, not at the NORTH SHORE!! 25 year vet.

Worst Vacation Ever!

We rented one of these condos in March 2004. After reading some of the bad reviews these condos got, we were seriously thinking about canceling, but decided to give it a try anyway. Bad decision! Very disappointing from day one. We had a bottom condo and had to walk down steps through over grown shrubs to get to it. The condo was very hot as the only air conditioner was in the bedroom which is the only room it cooled off. The dryer is actually vented inside the condo which adds to the heat and moisture problems. We were actually confronted by the owner of the condo our first day there who demanded to know why we were using the air conditioner at night (it was 79 degrees inside the condo). I won't even get into the problem with the cockroaches which are huge. Would not even attempt to open sliding screen doors because of those things. Had to leave lights on all night the entire 13 days we were there. Carpet was filthy, refused to walk on it without wearing flip flops. This was by far the worst place we have ever stayed. Could not wait to leave. Definitely would have been more happy staying in Waikiki, crowds and all. This condo was very very disappointing, especially after seeing their website pictures which we relied on. Will not return to this area ever.

Do your homework!

I was surprised and disappointed to read a few negative reviews... The bottom line, condo renting is not like booking a hotel, you have to do your homework. I've stayed in the Kuilima Estates condos at Turtle Bay twice, both times loving every minute of it. I had the benefit of seeing both units before I rented, but I also told the agent up front that I wanted one of their nicer, high-end units, which are still a deal compared to the hotel. Turtle Bay is the best kept secret of Hawaii. And the Turtle Bay Condos, the best bargain in Hawaii - if you do your homework!

Good value, but don't expect luxury

Beautiful location! Great value for the money. We booked our condo through Turtle Bay Condos. Our condo was roomy, but definitely showed signs of age (paper-thin walls, dated colors, peeling paint, holes in walls). It was pretty clean (if you don't look at the tops of light fixtures or curtains). It was great to have a kitchen and washer / dryer. We enjoyed the peace and quiet, and the security gate made us feel, well, secure. It was nice to be close to the resort and its amenities, but it was also nice to go back to our quiet condo. We loved the north shore, but there aren't a lot of lodging choices. The condos were less than half the price of the resort. We would definitely return.

Ugh. Hot and Dirty

It is a shame that the management company for these units appears to be uncaring and / or incompetent, because the location is lovely. The Turtle Bay Resort is fantastic. There is a great beach adjacent to the resort, a very short from our condo. Two nice restaurants in the hotel, and on the golf course Lei Lei's has one of the best Mai Tais on the island. The golf courses are in great shape. The northside of Oahu is beautiful. Unfortunately, our condo was not a piece of paradise. The condo never cooled off, except in one downstairs bedroom. The upstairs air conditioner did not even keep the upstairs bedroom it is in cool. Because of the location of the unit, there was not ever a breeze to help cool off the condo. We bought a fan, but it did little. That aside, my wife spent an hour with bleach cleaning the upstairs bathroom floor and shower that was dirty and moldy. We called the management company to get some kind of cleaner, but even though they said yes, they never delivered. I could go on about the lack of amenities in the kitchen, and how the BBQ's are unusable until sandblasted clean, but I'll end by saying this turned out to be the most uncomfortable condo we have ever rented, and we have a lot of experience in renting condos on vacation.

Major disappointment

Turtle Bay property is lovely but the vacation rental office of C & C Realty, Inc. was unprofessional and dishonest. Our condo Unit 143 West was dirty, bedding and towels were used and we had to wash everything before sleeping our first night there. Kitchen was unsanitary with spoided food in the dishwasher which left a sour smell in the condo. We won't relaborate on the bugs crawling on the counters. Air conditioner didn't work. We approached the office with our concerns and some housecleaning was done. $75.00 credit for cleaning fee was to appear on credit card. Has not happened. Can't reach C & C by email, fax or phone. Vacationer beware. What was good? Beautiful walks on the beach.

Atrocious

The place we stayed was called turtle bay condos but after having looked at the Estates at Turtle Bay Website, these places are basically the same but stay away from both. I stayed at one of the condos in 1998 and it was rather nice, but I went back in 2003 and stayed in a different unit and it was an absolute dump. Old smelly shag carpet, the kitchen cabinets were hanging by one or two loose screws, bugs all over. The sliding glass door in the loft bedroom was completely out of its track and my 78 year old father in law and I needed to lift it back in place. Also no AC except in upstairs loft. Person who lives next door smoking pot the entire time we were there, not a good example for the children. Holes in the walls hastily patched, old laes rotting on the cieling fan, no one at the office on the weekend, wanted to switch units but that was impossible. Also our condo was facing the golf course, good? No, some loud restaurant and bar was right there and they throw out 2 or three giant trash cans of bottles at 2 am when they close. What a racket woke us all up. Five thumbs down from our party. The area however in beatiful, if only the owner of this condo had taken some pride in their place and supervised the maintenance this would be a great place.

Comfortable and Clean

Before selecting the Estates at Turtle Bay, we priced a condominium through the Turtle Bay Hilton on the same grounds at over $500.00 per night and it did not even have a kitchen! Then, luckily we found the Estates at Turtle Bay and paid a little over $100.00 per night. Our management contact was friendly and available and we had a magnificient stay! Our unit was comfortable and well maintained. Knowing we were renting a persons home, we did not expect perfection. And with the $3000.00 we saved on these accomodations, we have enough money to come back here next year! We will definetely return to the Estates at Turtle Bay!

Disappointing Accomodations

We arrived at the Kuilima Estates for a 2 week stay in September. The location and area is unbeatable, far from the hussle of Waikiki, the North Shore is THE place to stay for a romantic or family holiday. It is much more secluded, quiet and closer to the smaller towns and true 'island life'. It is also only about a 45 minute scenic drive to Waikiki for shopping and dining. It is located close to the Turtle Bay Resort and you have access to its spectacular beach which is just a short walk away. Be sure to visit Waimea Beach and Sunset Beach. The actual condition of the rentals is another story. We arrived to the condo and was greeted to what was a very nicely decorated living atmosphere. Little pictures and designs were great added touches to the rental. The bathrooms and tubs did show quite a bit of wear. It was about 1 day into our stay that we saw it was suffering from an ant infestation. If we left any pieces of food out for 10 minutes ants were all over it. It just got worse and worse and so we brought it up with management and were very happy and grateful that they offered to move us. When we moved into the second rental, they we did notice a few ants here and there but nothing as bad as before, so we put up with it. The actual condo itself was no where near as nice as the first one. The windows were broken and chunks of the wall protruding, the upstairs level would always remain hot and had a stale smell that always lingered. It was also not decorated as nice as the first one. We spent very limited time in the condo. In my opinion, I would say to skip the estates unless you know the owners as they are all privately owned estates. Pay a little more and stay at the Turtle Bay Resort as the North Shore is the best area on the island! I would never stay elsewhere. We even saw giant turtles swim up to the shore on a daily basis. It was an unforgetable vacation... highs and lows. But overall we LOVED Hawaii and would return in a heartbeat.

Three wonderful condos

Rented three condos for our daughter's wedding in Aug 02. Others in our party rented four more for a total of seven. Every one was more than we expected. The location was beautiful and we had no condo problems. There were occasional bugs, but Hawaii IS the tropics and after living there for five years, we've yet to find a bug-free location. We'd stay there again and may even buy one of the condos. Great place!

No thanks!

Well, the horror story started when I pre-paid for 3 weeks and they waited to the last minute to mail you the key information. Some big secret picking up the key I guess. That was Team Real Estate. I stayed in # 48 Kuilima West. The woman below knocked on my door and told me my TV was too loud. At 6PM! I asked her what she thought about the 6AM lawn moving outside her window. She said she get used of it, and she told me she owned the unit. Woweee! I asked her if she had been pounding on the walls the night before-she said she was. I thought that they were nailing up a picture. It is hot, small, the fans are loud and there is no AC. And there are bugs too! Once you mention refund, Team Real Estate gives you the silent treatment. No one is frinedly in this area-they only want your cash. Stay in Waikiki. You need a car too. You can not walk to the beach, it is 5 miles away. Oh sure they say you can, but you can't. No taxis no restaurants-Nothing. You can not swim in this area because of the waves and rip tides. There is a nice beach on the Windward side about 6 miles from this dump.

Don't Go!

We were completely disappointed from the moment we arrived. Our condo was filthy and smelled like mold. I had to remove the sofa cushions and wash them the first night as they felt sticky and disgusting. I killed 3 cockroaches during our stay because the casings around the front door had big gaps in them and the bugs could just walk right in. The main problem with these units, in my opinion, is that the dryers are vented inside the unit and this makes it very damp and prone to mildew and mold. The furnishings are also cheap and dated. We stayed for 7 our of 10 days but just couldn't take it anymore and wound up booking a hotel in Waikiki for the duration of our holiday and had a great time there instead. We weren't offered a refund for our early check-out but didn't really expect one since everything else was so disappointing.

Broken leg

We arrived in Turtle Bay for a last minute vacation the nite of Jan. 5th. We had made our condo reservations with a private party over the internet, only days before. We had a second story condo with a loft bedroom. The condo was nice enough, but the koa wood stairs leading to the loft were rather slippery. First trip down the stairs, the morning of the 6th, my husband's feet slid out from under him, and his leg was broken! It was unfortunate that the stair rails did not extend to the botton step, otherwise, he could have caught himself. Needless to say, this was a nightmare, not a vacation. Just a word to the wise... if you stay in a condo w / a loft, make sure that the stairs are either carpeted of have some kind if tread on them. We returned home 2 days after the accident and have not only not been reimbersed the money that we paid up front for the condo, but are in the process of suing the insurance company for medical expenses.

Cockroaches everywhere in the condo... alive and dead

This was our first destination from the airport when we arrived. From the minute we arrived and walked in the front door we were met with two cockroaches. As we stepped further into the entryway and looked into the kitchen there was another HUGE cockroach. Then as we went to look upstairs we found even more cockroaches. Next to the master bed on the nightstand, alive! Disgusting. My husband had the fun job of catching and disposing of the cockroaches. My kids were so scared they slept with us and refused to be in a different room. I completely understand that Hawaii is a " tropical island " and that there will be bugs but this was NOT ACCEPTABLE. Maybe one wouldn't have been so bad but there were 5-6 just when we walked in. There were also cockroach pieces on the dining table, kitchen counters and couches. I'm not sure how that happens but obviously cleaning is not a priority to the management. The so-called " manager " that I spoke with regarding this issue acted as if that's completely normal and I should just get used to it. Maybe she is used to sharing her home with cockroaches, but to me it's very unsanitary and it's no place that anyone with children should stay. I was offered $100 off the 2 nights that we stayed but it took a lot of my vacation time on the phone to finally get them to that point. We were so happy to leave and check into a clean place. We didn't see a single cockroach at any of the places we stayed for the rest of our week there on Oahu and the next week in Maui.

2004-04-05 00:00:00

Smelly!!

This place was okay for our family of 5. It was nice to have the room to spread out, that's it. EVERYTHING smelled of mildew. Thank goodness they have a washer and dryer, I washed our towels before using them. The kitchen cabinets needed to be wiped down, the AC didn't work in one bedroom and the other smelled of mildew. I guess I got what I paid for. I won't stay there again.

2003-08-23 00:00:00

I return time and time again

I have been to all the islands, but nothing compares to North Shore, Oahu at the Turtle Bay Condos at Kuilima Estates. Over the past 10 years I've made a point to stay at TBC. I like the location - away from Honolulu and tourist sites, private and quiet, not to mention clean, and walking distance to the beaches and Turtle Bay Hilton, where there is always a grand view of sunsets and mai tai's! The staff are always friendly and accommodating. My next trip is August 30 and I'm counting the days. Aloha!

The best!!!!

It was so beautiful... had that comfortable feeling like home, but of course better than home. Beautiful view. It was so convienent because of all the pots, pans and dishes... refrig, utensils, tea kettle... etc. We loved it and we'll be back... when we go back home in July....

The Best Deal on the Ohau North Shore!

We had a wonderful time at Kulima Estates West # 64. We booked it throught VRBO.com. (It's listed as # 149628). If you want to go to Turtle Bay Resort on the North Shore of Ohau and don't want to pay the high prices, this is the way to go. This is a beautiful condo that sleeps 4-6, is exceptionally clean, tastefully decorated, and has everything you could possibly need! We loved it! If you stay at this condo, everything at the Turtle Bay Resort (except the main pool) is available within walking distance. There are three pools at your disposal, as well as the guarded beach at Turtle Bay, two golf courses, stables, tennis courts and much more, all within walking distance. The condo itself looks out over the golf course, and you can see the waves crashing on the beach in the distance from the lanai (balcony). Although there have been negative reviews of some of the condos at Kulima Estates, this one gets our highest acolades! We hated to leave and would happily go back. The property has an excellent manager, Marti, who made our stay even better. No question was too tough for her, and she was always available by phone. (She said that she sleeps with the phone on her pillow, in case someone needs help while she's sleeping!)

028 West

1. Early check in request was denied. I was travelling w / my elderly parents and my young son. My father is a stroke patient who tires easily. Was told to come back at 3 p. m. I would have liked to have been accomodated with this request. 2. My father slipped and fell in the bathtub. I requested bath mats and was told they would be brought the following day. A bath mat already in the condo unit would have prevent him from slipping and falling. 3. Deadbolt on front door screen jammed, locking us in the condo unit. Friendly staff member eventually freed us. 4. No working deadbolt on the front door. I didn't feel safe. Positive comments: 1. Good location. Two Foodland stores nearby. Beautiful beaches nearby. Close to Polynesian Cultural Centre. Fruit stands nearby. Shrimp trucks nearby. I recommend Tony's coconut shrimp and shave ice. 2. Thanks for providing beach toys, body boards, umbrella and beach towels! 3. Quiet (except for lawn mowers which commence cutting the grass at 5:30 am daily). 28 West is on the golf course - lovely view from the lanai. 4. Internet connection works fine. 5. Nice to have washer / dryer in the unit.

Paradise Found

My husband and I celebrated our 35th Wedding Anniversary at Turtle Bay and enjoyed every minute of our stay from March 28-April 12, 2007. From the moment that we stepped into # 151 West, we knew that we were going to enjoy our stay. The Condo was immaculate and decorated with the touch of Hawaii. The maintenance workers are constantly maintaing the grounds and keeping everything clean. The flowers and grounds are constantly groomed and maintained. The heated outside pool was wonderful. It was a delightful walk to the beach and to dining. Oahu is a beautiful Island and a wonderful place to visit and 151 West at Turtle Bay Estates was a wonderful place to come home to at night to relax on the outside porch with a nice glass of wine. We had a wonderful vacation and we can't wait to return to Turtle Bay Estates. Bob and Joan [--] Newark, Delaware

Excellent location and value

We stayed one week in unit 25 west. Very nice, lots of room, full kitchen with everything you needed. We love the north shore and for $135 a night was a great value. Management company was very friendly and we had no problem reserving the condo and no problems checking in late in the evening. Very clean property. I would suggest getting a condo on the top floor.

Great property, some condos need some TLC

The Estates at Turtle Bay is a fabulous complex in a great location on Oahu's North Shore. The key to this property though, is the condo. Since they're owned individually, the condo quality varies greatly. We stayed in 20 West, a one bedroom condo with a loft which was the perfect size for our family of four. The kitchen was nice, and overall the condo was average. However -- the bedding was poor quality, the beds were hard, and lamps were broken. It was disappointing that a good condo could have been great with just a little more TLC. So, definitely stay at Turtle Bay, but research your condos carefully! Other notes: the pool was great -- it's a short walk / drive to the beach. Overall, the North Shore is a great place to stay. Still maintains a country feel - but has lots to do. Get out of Waikiki and hit the North Shore!

East 64--Amazing Condo!

We traveled with 7 in our group, including 5 children. This place is amazing. The pictures do not do it justice. 1300 square feet. 2 levels, a king, bunk bed, pull out couch and two twin beds. The owner has taken excellent care of the condo. It is immaculate and well taken care of. It has a great washer and dryer though the dryer takes a while. The owner has extras such a garbage bags, laundry soap etc. The picutres online are outdated. Its much nicer. Its right across the parking lot from the pool. It is just off the tennis court. There is beautiful lanai and small tiny lanai in bedroom. The kitchen is well stocked. I would say it was higher than a Marriott in standards. I would definitely stay there again. It would be a privilege. Honestly exceeded our expectations! The only downside is that you have to travel about 5 minutes to a beach but its well worth it!

Refused to honor refund or cancellation policy

We made a reservation in May to stay in a condo at the Turtle Bay Estates in Dec. In September we got a better deal to stay in a house on the ocean through a family friend. We called to cancel the reservation the first week of Oct. In Dec they still had not refunded our deposit and they sent a letter wanting us to pay for the condo. When I called and explained that we had already canceled with them in Oct. they said they had no record of our call, it was up to us to prove we had called, and so we would not be getting our $200.00 refund that we paid them. Nice.
