Not a great stay

I was disappointed with my recent stay at this hotel, especially compared to my previous visit, which was much more enjoyable. The oceanfront room faced the pool :- (Additionally, the divider between the balconies felt insecure, and I was unable to use my balcony due to someone smoking marijuana nearby as well as the security concern. I also encountered issues with the Titanium late check-out benefit, which was basically denied; apparently, noon is the latest they allow. This is a guaranteed perk, and it's unfortunate that this hotel does not honor it. Furthermore, the hotel imposes a destination fee, which I find questionable. While part of it can be applied to food and beverage, the Titanium breakfast benefit of $10 per person for up to two people was not respected. Instead, the front desk insisted it was $10 per room, which is not correct. I didn't want to argue, but it's clear that the staff could use a refresher on Marriott's elite benefits. Breakfast was another letdown. The service was extremely slow, and the staff was rather rude. My order was incorrect, and the waitress simply returned with the correct dish without apologies or bringing utensils or acknowledging my question about where to find them. Lastly, the shower was underwhelming; the water pressure was inadequate, and the faucet drizzled instead of providing a proper flow. On a positive note, the ocean is still beautiful! So, thats why 2 additional stars were added to the overall rating.

Christmas at The Courtyard by Marriott was Exceptional…12 / 2024- 4 days

We went to Jekyll Island for the holidays to see the Christmas lights. We heard the lights was beautiful. Pictures don't do them justice. So do your self a favor & go to the Island to see for yourself. We stayed at The Court yard by Marriott. It's a beautiful resort. Everything is nice & clean. The staff are so friendly & eager to assist the moment guests arrive. They have a Star bucks on site which is a plus if you are a fan of Starbucks which I am. We had a nice room with a beautiful view of the ocean. The resort has a restaurant Shore on site which has a great smash cheeseburger. The margaritas are a plus to from the bar. I'm attaching my pictures as part of my stay to help out Incase you are on the fence about staying here! I definitely recommend staying here you won't regret it! They have a hot tub on site we enjoyed as well. The courtyard has Yoga on the lawn & corn hole for activities…. the resort has gas fire pits on the courtyard as well…. Definitely will be returning in the near future.

The Worst Hotel Experience I've Ever Had

The front desk staff was unfriendly and didn't want to be bothered with any issues. We stayed at this hotel for 5 days and our room was never touched by anyone, even though we had asked several times for it to be cleaned and made up. We even had to ask for toilet paper and refill it our selves. We had to put our dirty towels outside of our door on the carpet, I can only imagine the germs that are on those hallway carpets with everyone's dirty towels on them daily, for them to be removed and then had to go to the front desk to get more. Our fitted sheet came off exposing the mattress cover and mattress, both of which had stains on them so I'm doubtful they had been changed prior to our stay either. We travel frequently for pleasure and business and this was by far our worst experience in a hotel. I don't recommend staying here. We are extremely disappointed in this hotel.

Amazing Location! Service could be better

We happened to find this location by chance on our way to St. Augustine. Jekyll Island is simply serene and beautiful. There are many nice shops around the island including one of our favorite " Life is Good " stores where we picked up some lovely T shirts. The hotel is clean and well maintained. The room was also clean and had a beautiful ocean view. The staff was less than helpful though on several occasions. We dined in the hotel at the Shore restaurant as vegetarian options are not plentiful on the island. We ordered a vegetarian pizza and some hot chocolate. The food was passable. The servers didn't seem interested and continued eating their ice cream cones while speaking with another customer. We had to repeatedly get their attention to even place our order. The next morning, no one seemed to know where folks who purchased the " Breakfast Package " went. After standing in line at the cafe / Starbucks, when it came to our turn, I was told that I had to go and get a band to even order food. When I asked if I could show the proof on my BonVoy app, the person said only a band would work. I went to the front desk to ask for such a band, and the customer service representative didn't know where to get such a band and whether a Courtyard Inn customer would get it (it so happens that the property is also twinned with a Residence Inn). Finally, the manager was called and she kindly gave me the golden bands to go and get our breakfast. I got back in line and when I got to the front, the representative at the cafe told me that breakfast was at a different location and pointed me down the hallway to the place where residence inn guests had their food. We had our meal and headed out in the morning.

Do not get fooled by the external appearance

This hotel is located in a beautiful secluded island in Georgia. That's about the only positive for this hotel. I had the chance to also stay in the Resident Inn next door and the breakfast was below average with many items ran out early in the morning (milk, biscuits, etc). The showers in both hotels got limited pressure as the tub diverter was not working properly. All of this is meaningless after we found and killed a large cockroach in our 4th floor room; we went down to complain and the person at front desk was rude and giving excuses on why it may be normal to have a pest in the room, he even suggested it was our fault because we checked in early and probably entered / exited the room multiple times. We got a new room but the damage was done, we didn't even get a starbucks coffee as a way to remediate the damage. This is the 1st and last time I stay at this place, check other reviews with similar complaints.

Perfect Relaxing Weekend Getaway

We can't say enough good things about our stay at the Courtyard by Marriott on Jekyll Island. The hotel is part Courtyard and part Residence Inn_we stayed on the Courtyard side, but enjoyed most of the same amenities as the Residence Inn guests (I think the only difference is that they got breakfast included). The hotel itself is fairly new, I think, and just beautiful. The lobby is big, beautiful and airy_almost an elegant beachy vibe. We spent one rainy afternoon enjoying happy hour drinks at the bar. The bar staff were friendly and gave us several recommendations for our trip. The rooms are spacious and clean and we had a nice balcony. We really appreciated the complimentary shuttle and used that both evenings we were there_it was so nice to be able to park the car and leave it for the entirety of our trip! The Starbucks in the lobby is fairly pricey, but a convenient breakfast option for those staying on the Courtyard side. We ate there each morning before heading out on a beach walk. We ate several times at the Shore restaurant and it was spectacular each time_honestly they were probably the best meals we had on the entire island! The beach is spectacular_at low tide it is huge and goes on for miles. The beach access is an easy walk over the boardwalk that goes over the dunes to protect them. We took 2-3 mile beach walks every morning and loved the peacefulness and tranquility. The pool was also great_we must have come at a less-crowded time because at times we were the only ones at the pool. We never had any issues getting chairs and umbrellas, in the sun or in the shade. Towels were readily available. We enjoyed both the pool and the hot tub. I fell in love a little bit with Jekyll Island and this hotel and its restaurant and its beach were big parts of that. It's a place I felt I could truly exhale and relax. I can't wait to return.

Nice home away from home while at a conference

This is a nice property! Convenient to beach access and the convention center, whether you're visiting for business or pleasure. The pool is beautiful! Rooms are nice with a large shower and bathroom. I had an issue with my toilet the first night and after reporting it, it was fixed promptly the following morning. Nice lobby with Starbucks and pricey breakfast menu, but you won't go wrong with the loaded tater tots with scrambled eggs and buffalo ranch sauce. So good we had it twice! Hotel gym is a good size with nice cardio equipment, free weights, balls, bands and kettles. Would definitely consider staying here again.

Roach in room on first vacation day

We just got here today and the is a roach in the room that is a good inch and a half long. I am afraid to sleep because there maybe more in here. Tomorrow I am letting them know. This is unacceptable.

Don't go for the beach! The water is brown and beach is dirty

As far as the hotel goes, it's average. Some of the staff aren't very hospitable yet others are friendly. I would not recommend ordering any food from the Shore restaurant located in the hotel. It's overpriced for the quality. I wouldn't recommend ordering the pizza either. We ordered three of the pizzas and ended up not eating most of it because the dough was very strange and seemed old? There are plenty of other restaurants located in the area that have better quality food. We liked the fact that we could take the shuttle on demand to get back and forth from the market, shops, restaurants, etc. The pool was okay, but the temperature of the pool was not cool enough so it wasn't very refreshing. They had the bridge over the pool and the hot tub closed down for half of our stay which was a bit disappointing. I would suggest bringing your own pool towels in case they don't keep the hotel pool towels stocked up. This happened once when we were at the pool during the day. The main thing that I was upset over was the fact that the beach was dirty. I have never been to the Georgia coast before so I didn't realize that the water is brown due to the mud that drains from the nearby swamplands. I was looking forward to getting in the water but no one in my family even wanted to walk on the beach because there was so much debris and mud everywhere. You'd definitely not want to play in the sand or get in that water. Other than those negatives, the room was pretty clean and housekeeping was on top of providing good service. Would I come back? No!

A lovely getaway!

There were a lot of positives! We got there quite early and were pleasantly surprised that our room was ready. The front desk folks were nice. The room was spacious, with an unexpected separate living room and massive deck with sofa, table and chairs. Bed and pillows super comfy. The only drawback was the carpet had lots of spots and definitely needs a refresh. The carpet across from the front desk on 1st floor also is ready for a refresh. Lots of fraying. Also, there were planters on the patio filled with only weeds. Perhaps put shells there instead! The pool was nice. Great beach access and general location. I don't recall the female bartenders name who recommended the Drunken Monkey, but thanks, it was tasty and you were delightful to get to know!! We appreciated your excellent service. Even checkout was good. Brenda, thanks for the kind anniversary wishes and your lovely attitude! All in all, a lovely anniversary in a lovely spot!

Beautiful views

The hotel sits right on the beach and I had booked an island view king room. Upon arrival, I was upgraded to an ocean view queen room on the top floor which had an amazing view. The room was clean, but the bed was quite firm, which is not my preference. There is a $20 resort fee per day but our room had a $10 credit per day that could be used at the Starbucks in the lobby or the small market. Parking was free, there are beach cruiser bikes that you can use for free, but we brought our own bikes and there was a bike rack at the hotel entrance to store them when not in use. The Courtyard hotel is attached to the Residence Inn part with a shared lobby, hallways and elevators. The Residence Inn allows pets and there were ALOT of dogs at this property. Each morning as I waited for my coffee at Starbucks an obnoxious dog barked incessantly at other dogs passing by and the echo was ear splitting. I love my pets, but they do not travel with me. If you insist on bringing your dog every where you go, please have the courtesy to train them. I was not the only guest bothered by the racket created by this creature. Other guests have commented about the housekeeping situation but I saw staff cleaning constantly (probably due to all the dogs traipsing through there all day), and I was able to exchange towels when the housekeeping team was in the hallway. All in all, the hotel had a great location, beautiful view, was clean and updated, and I would return in the future.

Pleasant stay with minor hiccups

We enjoyed our three-night stay here (in December 2022) even though there were some minor hiccups. For instance, we requested early check-in if possible. Although our room was ready early, we were not notified. I had to call the front desk to confirm. Our room was very spacious and clean for a family of five. The " island view " was, in reality, a view of the parking lot because we were on the second floor; we were not able to get a higher floor. Breakfast was average, but the staff was great and very attentive. We never saw anyone cleaning the common area during our stay so trash did sit out in the hallway for the duration of our stay. We had to ask for towels and toilet paper at the front desk, which was fine with us. We used the daily $20 credit, but it didn't get us much - e. g, $9 for a 14 oz carton of Haagen-Dazs ice cream. The " large " Caesar salad was half the size of the regular Cobb salad, which was only $1 more. The credit does not include a 20% surcharge that is automatically added for restaurant take-outs. We took advantage of the free bike rentals to bike on the beach, which was one of the highlights of our stay. The hotel does not have bikes for children so we brought our own bikes for our kids. Parking on Jekyll Island is usually $8 / day, but we had to pay $12 / day because we didn't realize that the rate increases for special events (e. g, Holly Jolly Jekyll). It's not a big deal, but it would have been nice to know because we had missed the cut-off entry time (5 pm) by a few minutes. We debated about booking this hotel and another one that was highly rated on TripAdvisor. When we saw the other hotel in person, we were so glad that we chose this hotel based on travelers' photos.

Beautiful location. Terrible service

The location is beautiful. Great beach access and ocean view rooms. However, the new property isn't very well cleaned and is showing some wear. Upon check in, the lobby floors needed attention and our room wasn't super either. I found hair in the tub and the mirror was smudged. I was tired, so I pulled out a Clorox wipes and handled it. The outlet is not flush with the wall. The floors were dirty. The request for extra blankets and pillows was met with attitude and took 3 hours. The balcony is stained. All of those things I could ignore if the stay was comfortable, but it was not. When we went to bed, the smoke detector above one bed had a flashing light that made sleep impossible. The front desk was zero help. One of our party actually pulled linens off the bed and slept on the balcony chaise. The next morning I insisted someone look at it and the refrigerator that did not work, but no one came at the agreed time. When I called to get an ETA, I was informed no one was coming because the flashing is normal and the refrigerator is not a refrigerator, but only a cooler and can't be expected to chill food / drinks. Really? A cooler? Frankly, even if you think I'm wrong, send someone to look at it. I have stayed in nearly every hotel on the island, even the no frills motel style. I would recommend any one of them before the Courtyard.

DO NOT STAY HERE

The hotel is new so the facilities are very clean and modern. The issue here was that during our stay the room was accessed and medication stolen. I reported this to the on site manager requesting details of how this could have happened and telling them when I thought it happened but despite a complaint to Marriott HO and the hotel I have not received even an acknowledgment or apology 10 days after leaving the hotel.

Beautiful new property with HR challenge

This is beautiful new property. The location on the beach and the location on the island is terrific. The pool, beach and amenities are top notch. The challenge at the property is HR. They are struggling hiring people. The team running the property range from this is my first day working for Marriott to I've been here a month or so. They are using a very minimal menu because they don't have food staff for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They are offering a free shuttle service to other restaurants and sites on the island, but our experience is that you can't count on it to get a return ride. Even with the HR challenge, the property is terrific, and I would still come back again. I'm betting the Marriott culture is still strong and will fix its operational challenge.

Beautiful.. but

We came for an early dinner - it is a beautiful spot, just the perfect blend of coastal chill and upscale comfort (we felt fine in our beach shoes and did not feel underdressed - important here on the island). Being the only other table at which people were seated we anticipated a brief wait. We sat for 30 minute. We had been told to seat ourselves, that waitstaff would come to us. Hubby finally went to bar to order drink, acquire a menu and inquire about service. He returned with two yummy Long Island Iced Teas and then waitstaff appeared, apologizing for not seeing us " because of a party of people " (four people at the corner of the bar.) We were seated right at the window with a clear uninterrupted sightline of the waitstaff - and watched them dance to a Taylor Swift song - not sure how they didn't see us but perhaps an eye exam is needed? Order was taken swiftly and brought to us quickly. With cold french fries. The sandwiches were okay. Somehow my Reuben was more Irish than the green beer they were serving at the bar. The Russian dressing was not there - oh no, my mistake - it was! There was just so little of it I had to take the sandwich apart to find it, one couldn't taste it. The bottoms were soggy. Not the best Reuben sad to say - but it was St. Patricks Day so perhaps there was inspiration I fail to appreciate. The onion rings were hot and tasty so they do appreciate temperature. The waitstaff did inquire about our satisfaction with the meal - and confess we did NOT complain as we felt thankful to have received any food and did not wish to stress the system - the inferior product was not her fault and we were not going to wait for remedy. All of that to say - I would go again with lower expectations - it really was relaxing. Just not going to ruin a pleasant moment with complaining. At least not in the moment.

21st Anniversary Trip!!!

My husband and I recently visited this hotel to celebrate our 21st Wedding Anniversary. Although this wasn't our first visit to Jekyll Island, this was our first stay at this particular hotel. We stayed at the Westin during our first trip. The Westin was a tad bit pricey, so we opted for the Courtyard. We booked an Island View King bed room. To our surprise, and after being denied for an upgrade, we ended up with an Ocean Front room. The hotel was in great condition. Our room was clean. Starbucks on the premises was AWESOME!!! The food we ordered for lunch and dinner AWESOME!!! The only complaint that I have is we never received a peek from the housekeepers until an hour or 2 before checkout time. I pray that we will one day be able to enjoy our trips without interruptions. If checkout time is 11:00am, give people until that time to leave. We paid for that time. This is very distasteful for professional classy people who know what time checkout is. However, this is not enough to say that this place was AWESOME!!! Would stay again.

Paradise Retreat

My husband and I were able to escape the cold winter temperatures to visit beautiful Jekyll Island. We stayed at the Courtyard for 3 nights and 2 days. We wish we could have stayed longer! When we arrived, we were greeted and checked in by Maurice. He was very friendly and helpful. He truly made us feel welcome. After exploring the island during the day, we enjoyed a cocktail and snacks at the bar. The bartender, Linda was very personable. She conversed with the customers, took orders and mixed drinks in a very efficient manner. She was a great multi-tasker! Our room was very spacious, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The hotel was very clean. The downstairs lobby areas were cleaned meticulously each day. Our room included a sitting area with a sofa and ottoman, a desk, refrigerator, TV and 2 Queen beds. We had a narrow balcony with two chairs and a table. The only difficulty we faced in our room, was the shower head. We were unable to tip it outward. It was fixed and the spray, although adjustable, ran straight down, close to the end of the shower. The only negative aspect of the hotel was their $20 per day resort fee. The hotel tacks on $20 a day which can be subtracted from the bill by utilizing 4 of their services. We didn't mind being encouraged to purchase items / services during our stay, but we weren't fond of the parameters of the system. Guests could spend $10 at the bar or on items in the market, rent bicycles for 2 hours or get pool towels. The system is structured so that you are unable to use the $20 in one place. Since my husband has mobility issues due to medical issues, renting bicycles was out of the question. We didn't have time to use the pool. This left charging purchases at the bar and market. We would have rather used the $20 towards our drinks and food purchased at the bar. Instead we could only deduct $10 from the bar bill and had to purchase $10 of snacks in the market. Overall, we were very happy with the facility and staff at the Courtyard. We would definitely stay there again.

Wonderful Stay

We stayed to the property for a long weekend. Wonderful location and easily the nicest Courtyard property I have stayed in. We enjoyed the large pool and direct beach access. Would happily stay here again on our next trip to Jekyll Island.

Daughter Work Trip

We really enjoyed going along with our daughter as she had a quick work trip to Brunswick and St Marys Ga. The hotel was so new that it was beautiful place to stay with all the amenities. It was cold during our stay but still enjoyed our stay! The only thing was I noticed was going in the bathroom the lip going in could be a trip hazard.

Great off season stay

I was apprehensive.... seemed they had considerable operating challenges in the summer and fall. But I gave the place a chance, and the stay was excellent. Don't know why they don't emphasize that their pool is huge,. And heated to a comfortable swimming temp! I enjoy swimming laps, and estimate the pool is 35 to 40 yards long. Great hot tub too. Bar was enjoyable with friendly bar tenders. Front desk folks were helpful and courteous. The room was clean and pleasant with a small but usable balcony. My single complaint is the A / C system... no constant fan option so it starts and stops all night. And it seems to only work well if someone is moving on occasion in the room!? This may be a real issue in the summertime. Off-season rates were affordable... and the low key, relaxed atmosphere was so appreciated.

Good, but not good enough..

I was leaning toward giving this hotel 3 stars but that would be unfair. 4 stars for trying. The hotel is new and generally very nice, the location is incredible and Jekyl island is one of my favorite places, not pretentious at all, beautiful and laid back. But when you are paying almost $200 a night (off season with taxes and fees) you would not expect to get a room with a rather large brown stain in the carpet right in front of the balcony sliders. Knowing what that brown stain most probably came from (a four legged friend) kind of makes it a bit gross. I am sure that stain could be removed? But why was it not. Also note, if you are not good on your feet then request a room close to the elevators. This Marriot was poorly designed when it comes to its elevators. Our room was toward the end of one of the wings and quite the hike. Very noticeable if you need to get anything as there is no room service. Then there is the staff; while mostly pleasant, service is slow and I never really felt at ease. When we checked out the receptionist never even asked if we enjoyed our stay. Virtually never said a word in fact. Not even a good morning. This is a huge no no for a hotel when the first person you probably meet there is rather surly or just having a bad day. Kind of permeates through the whole property experience. But anyways, just a few little things and this Marriot could be a 5 star review.

Stayed twice, disappointed both times!

I've had 2 stays at the Jekyll Island Courtyard and I've had 2 bad experiences. I really wanted to like this hotel! Sadly, they continue to disappoint. Our first visit was in September 2021 for my birthday. It was a relatively new hotel at that time, so I hoped they were just working out the kinks getting things established. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to give them a second chance in December 2021. There was ZERO improvement, in fact I'd say that their trajectory was steadily going downhill. First off, I must say that the location of this hotel is great! It has a lot of potential. It is beachside with a great pool area. With that said, that is the ONLY positive about this hotel. This hotel is very poorly managed and the customer service is non-existent. They are understaffed in every department. There is typically only one person at the front desk area and the wait time to get any assistance is ridiculous. Expect to wait 15-20 minutes just to get acknowledged. The food service is a joke. Our first visit, the Shores Restaurant was open, but it was unorganized madness. The second visit, there was a sign posted on the front desk saying Starbucks & Shores Restaurant were temporarily closed. That sign was misleading seeing as how I got coffee every morning at the Starbucks and I saw people eating in the dining area. We learned our lesson the first visit not to eat in the hotel. Our room had carpet stains all over the place. This is a dog friendly hotel so I can only assume the stains were dog urine or feces. The TV in our room was practically hanging off the wall. The room thermostat does not go below 66° now and they refuse to adjust it for their guests. The chief engineer acknowledged that they could override the limit but they just refuse to do it. The A / C also has sensors so it turns off every time you leave the room. So much for guest comfort! When we checked in, first order of business was to take a shower after a long drive. Our room did not have any washcloths. I had to use a large handtowel in a pinch. I had to request THREE times to get washcloths in our room, and I got it on the 3rd attempt only because I walked down to the front desk and waited 20 minutes for the associate to run all over the hotel looking for washcloths. Apparently there is a washcloths shortage because housekeeping never had any either when asked. The shower had gnats in the corners also. Our room mini-fridge was hot upon arrival because whoever was there last left the door open. We paid $300 a night for our room, plus a $20 destination fee per night. That fee is supposed to give you food credits & bike rentals... none of which are ever available. The rooms are overpriced for what you get out of the hotel. It really is a shame that this hotel can't get their act together. The location and layout of the grounds is great, but the customer service and bad management ruins the entire stay. We had friends coming down to Jekyll this week and because of our bad experiences here, they opted to stay at the Westin down the road. Good choice on their part. We will make the same decision next time we visit, we are done with the Jekyll Courtyard.

Be patient!

While the views from this hotel are beautiful, the staff seems to be stretched thin. There was no conditioner in the bathroom and none to be had on property. No daily service. Could not get an electronic key, no answer on late check out, no return calls from front desk. Very frustrating.

The Jekyll Island Hotel

Six of us had lunch outside on the patio there yesterday and we were all very pleased with the menu and the food. Most of all our server Deddrick, was a real pleasure, very friendly and efficient. We hope to see him next visit. The brand new Marriott was very spacious and well appointed. Huge pool.

Peace and calm the Return

Two months old almost to the day when we arrived, very nicely done there Marriott on the grounds and beautiful entrance. Comfortably numb from the peaceful entrance and spacious, crafted furnishings immerse one in the Island atmosphere - Our friend Flicker the wonder the dog, accompanied on this run down to the Georgia Coast, This is the quiet peace we needed. Ocean, golf cart for runarounds and the cafe- five stars to the Chef! Covid protocols still precluded Kim's favorite, room service, from current offerings from the Courtyard, but she found a better way, Flicker the wonder dog and his faithful owner. Limited menu prepared cuisine was our favorite essential service at this Courtyard. Did not see Chefs name, but Kudos and Salutations to the Chef and Staff!

Beautiful property ruined by staff and Marriot's GREED. Guests are an after-thought

The new property is beautiful. The views are amazing. However, the hotel is shamefully being ruined by rude front desk staff, managers, etc. The staff we encountered at the pool and restaurant are overworked but very kind. We felt bad for them. We paid a large amount of money to stay for 7 days. Our room was NEVER serviced. When your garbage is overflowing in your garbage cans and you don't have towels and you are paying so much to stay here, you would be disappointed too. Only one time, someone left 2 towels on our bathroom counter and only emptied the tiny trash can in the bathroom. They didn't empty the other larger garbage can in the room that was overflowing. We would have to leave piles of our towels (that we would have to get by calling all the time to the front desk) in the hall outside our door with our garbage. Other desks would also have to do this. One day, after being gone all day and returning around 4pm, our garbage and towels were still laying there. We kindly asked one of the housekeepers in the hallway if she was able to help take care of it. She rolled her eyes very annoyed and said it wasn't her job. We then called the front desk and dealt with it ourselves.... AGAIN. Our room at the very least was supposed to be serviced every 3 days (which is also ridiculous... then give a discount for that lack of service). It was NEVER serviced. On the last day of our stay, someone knocked on our door in the morning asking if we wanted our room serviced. Really? After we were here for 7 days??? LOL. So we declined because there is NO POINT. I said we were checking out and it was too late. The pool area is not ever clean. People don't throw their garbage away and there is no staff cleaning up anything but once in a while. I finally just went around and picked up garbage and threw it away because it was disgusting. It's a shame grown adults don't know how to pick up after themselves either. And what is going on with the pool water?? It is always cloudy looking and does not seem to be being serviced properly. We are pool owners and know how clean it should look. It was not refreshing and left you feeling gross. Sorry.... just being brutally honest. The hotel allows small dogs. We are also dog owners. Although we don't feel the need to bring our dogs with us to a hotel, most of the people who brought theirs did a great job keeping them leashed and picking up after them and the dogs were small in size as allowed. However, there were some people who brought LARGE dogs that are not allowed, but the hotel did NOT regulate it. We witnessed one guest had a LARGE PIT BULL sitting in the restaurant with them as they were dropping food on the floor to feed him. Hey, if you feel safe with that in a family hotel with tons of children running around then good for you. We find this horridly unacceptable. We went to the front desk on our last day to have our charges printed out to look them over. The whole $20 destination fee is a JOKE. It's just more money they steal. As other reviews have stated, the market was always empty and there were not enough bikes. I would not have bothered leaving this review had the front-desk supervisor CARED in the least. We described our concerns, mainly focusing on the fact that our room was never serviced and even had difficulty getting rid of our garbage and obtaining towels, etc. They were rude and flip it on you, the guest!! She told us we should have complained sooner. WHAT???? So calling down to the desk constantly to complain, get towels, garbage emptied..... all for something that we ALREADY PAID for as an expectation became our fault?????????????????? Wow. So RUDE. We asked for at least some type of credit. They wouldn't even credit us for the rip-off $20 destination fee even though their market never had anything in it, etc. So it's ALL about them taking your money and that's it. Other than that, they don't care about you at all. They were presented with an opportunity when we spoke to them KINDLY in person to rectify it somehow. The response back was rude and blamed us. So there you have it. When you are paying this much money to come and relax to get away, the filthy surroundings start to get to you. Finally, my husband also had to talk to the hotel about how you will be HOT in your room at night. Why? Because again, they only care about themselves and not their guests. The air conditioning has a sensor on it. So at night, when you are sleeping, the air DOES NOT come on but once in a while your room will become hot and uncomfortable so you won't be able to sleep. My husband was directed to speak to the hotel's " engineer " to see if the setting could be changed at night. The individual seemed inexperienced and had no idea what to even tell my husband. No one was able to help with this. We spoke with many other hotel guests at the pool area complaining about the same thing. The beds are also very hard, firm and not comfortable at all. If the hotel staff at the front desk had cared at all, I would not have taken the time to write this review. I hope it will help someone else determine if they want to deal with this. You can FIX this Marriot, by CARING about your guests instead of your own bottom line. To be fair, we were finally offered 10, 000 points. What a joke. You can only use those off-peak season in a category 2 venue if to be lucky at all for that to be worth anything. If you can't provide the service we paid for NOW. then give the credit now by giving us some type of refund. But again, it's all about you, Marriott.

Brand New and Very Clean right on the beach

The hotel itself was nice and clean. Service was nice. Beds are very very very firm! Not comfortable at all in my opinion. Smoke alarm was like a strobe light every 6 seconds which was fun at bed time. Refrigerator will only set to cool for 2 hours, then you have to reset it which is ridiculous if there is something you must keep cold indefinitely. The air conditioner will only cool down to 68 degrees. It will also bump up to 72 degrees during the day. I am not a fan of this. One of my BIGGEST pet peeves. I was constantly having to set the temperature lower. There is not a privacy screen between some of the balconies which was a little uncomfortable. You get charged a $20 destination fee each day but you can also get up to $20 discount each day at the following areas: $10 beverage credit, $10 crate market credit by front check-in, Island Shuttle, 2 hour bike rental for 2, Beach towel service, Driving Range golf balls at the Jekyll Island Golf Club. Discounts do not rollover, so you must use your discount each day or you lose it. There is a charge for beach chairs and umbrellas at the beach. You better check for those discounts at check-out, they didn't give me one and I didn't find out until after I left because they were unable to print the receipt while I was there. I had seen other reviews and comments about this. View was spectacular from our room. Paid extra of course for ocean side with a balcony. I don't feel this room was worth $300 per night. The room itself was standard, nothing special. Trash was still around pool deck in the mornings, left from the day before. There were barely any trash cans around, so I figured this was the reason for all the trash overflowing. There are only about 6 bikes to rent, so you better get one early. I only saw 4 luggage carts at the entire hotel. I've added pictures since there aren't " real " pictures on their website, only renderings.
