Tasty!
The food was phenomenal and super quick so if you are in a rush it's a good place to stop by. This is very close the the aquarium.
High Hopes with Bad Experience
We've been here before and started with high hopes (especially because it's in the Mandalay Bay). But after sitting for 13 minutes without being offered drinks or having our orders taken, we had to ask for a manager - who was extremely apologetic and helpful. Throughout the meal, we had trouble getting things refilled and had to rely on bus boys and food runners to get things done. At the end of our meal, the original inattentive server brought us somebody else's bill - which was surprising considering that the restaurant was less than 50% capacity. It's clearly time for this restaurant to review it's staff and possibly make some changes.
Just bad - pass on this restaurant
One of the worst meals I ever had. Guacamole is a mess. Just smeared on a strange plate. Salsas were nearly flavorless. Margaritas pitchers were watered down sugary mess. The blood orange margarita was over powered by tons of jalapeños. Chicken enchiladas were dried out in a green globby sauce. Rolled up tiny flour tortilla- I only ate 1 it was so bad. Service was slow.
Won't go back
Food was cold. We were miserable, we were taken to bottom level. Cold air blowing. Seafood enchiladas smelled and tasted fishy.
Great food on the patio
The food was amazing. We sat on the patio and enjoyed a beautiful Vegas afternoon. The enchiladas, fish tacos and taquitos were all delicious. Service was wonderful as well.
Best Brunch on The Strip!
We've been coming here for well over a decade now on weekends for the Border Brunch (and should have written this review ages ago!). They feature unlimited breakfast-oriented tapas with the option to add on bottomless mimosas, micheladas, or Bloody Mary's. Given the price point, this weekend brunch hands-down beats out the other unlimited, buffet-style, Strip places because everything is made to order. You don't walk past a bunch of silver bins sitting under heat lamps, wondering how long the food has been there. Instead, each scrumptious item is brought, made to order, to your table. Our standbys are the steak & eggs, chilaquiles, horchata French toast, and whatever the " chef's secret pancakes " are. Oh, and the bottomless mimosas!! :-) There are around a dozen other amazing food options, and the location makes it absolutely stellar to catch the weekend Raider games afterwards. If all that weren't enough, and the staff are all really good, but I've gotta give a special shout out to Ronnie. For the past several years, he's been one of the biggest reasons that we've enjoyed our visits much more so. Ronnie's been working the bar area each time we've visited, and he always takes phenomenal care of us. No matter how chaotic things may eventually get (this brunch is famous for very good reason!!), he always makes the best of it all. He's got this wonderful, warm, infectious personality, which allows him to seamlessly handle the brunch craziness such that you're never, ever disappointed or underserved (e. g, suggestions like, you should order a little extra now as the kitchen can get a little backed up as it gets busier). Indeed, it just wouldn't be a Border Grill, pre-Raiders game (or random Vegas weekend!) brunch without his outstanding service. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Ronnie! We sincerely appreciate all that you do and the positive energy that you bring!! And, thank you, Border Grill for continuing to have the best brunch on the Strip!
Dinner
Four of us had dinner here on Friday last week. Food was ok (burritos), but it was not hot enough at all, service was also kind of " meh ". We wouldn't return
Nice lunch
We had lunch here with 4 people. Options to sit inside, at the bar, or outside. Service was nice. Food was quite good. I'd go again.
Perfect, Perfect, Perfect!
Our experience at Border Grill was absolutely perfect. The restaurant was very busy, however we were looked after straight away and certainly not forgotten about. Staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. Food was simply unbelievable. Enchiladas were so nice and so tasty, side of the black beans were also perfect. I would love to return to this restaurant!
Nice food but disappointed that the serving staff were so aggressive about tipping
The meal was wonderful, we had a 10am booking and were seated quite promptly and our orders were taken, the staff were super friendly and helpful explaining the menu, we had the unlimited brunch and ordered 3 items each, some of the order was cold when it came as if it had been batch cooked and put together and left on the side for a while but it was very tasty, overall it was great. However when the bill came we decided to pay the tip by cash and the bill on credit card and thought a 16% tip was about right. The server came back to us with the bill with their suggested tip circled and aggressively asked us what we wanted to do about that, we were perplexed and asked her what she meant and she aggressively said that we should add more tip to our credit card total, we said we had paid paid the tip by cash and she again said it was " customary to add more " this really spoilt our visit, I have been bringing friends and customers here for years but doubt I want to go through that embarrassing situation there again.
Great Brunch Experience with Friends!
Such a great experience and delicious small plates!!! Highly recommend the all you can eat tapas brunch. We went with another couple and sample nearly everything on the menu. The steak and eggs, tamales, enchiladas, brisket benedict, salmon toast.... everything was SO good!! We felt it was a great value. Glad we went!
Buzzkill restaurant
I was hoping for a special brunch upon arrival in Vegas. This was not the case. This restaurant has the quality of a chain restaurant with 0 atmosphere. The drinks are no fuss and not festive or fun. The vibe is all about turning a profit. Really was a buzzkill for the beginning of a much anticipated trip to Vegas.
Service great, food terrible
The staff was 5 star. We were seated outside very close to other tables. The Tamarindo Quesadilla may have been the worst quesadilla I've ever had. The Smoked Prime Rib tacos were small and tasted like liquid smoke. Caviar prices for dog food. I would not go back to this place.
Terrible ambiance... rushed service
I called to make sure the kitchen was open and was informed the last seating was at 9:30... My Family and I arrived at 9:25 (we understand that is cutting it close) however we were told the last seating was at 9:30 and not that the kitchen would close at 9:30... I double checked as I wanted to be sure we could arrive this late so when we arrived we were told we could only order takeout... we protested and were begrudgingly seated... when the waiter arrived he instructed us that we had " exactly one minute to order " in a less than welcoming manner... we ordered quickly as we had limited options at this point …. Chips and salsa average (presented in strange metal containers), Cadillac margarita $17 served with no garnish, little ice in basic pint glass (the $6 happy hour margarita at dicks last resort was better in flavor and presentation) and some people got served after us and we weren't even the last people in the restaurant. And our server was still asking other people for their orders. Don't recommend coming here and terrible ambience. Save your money. The art work on the walls could be duplicated by a five year old. Shame on Mandalay for even having this restaurant in their hotel.
Absolutely the worst experience for service I've ever had in 25 years of business travel
We had an employee meeting for six and after ordering the waiter told us they couldn't split bills. We were very understanding but as we gave him directions on how to split he became angry and told us to not make it too complex because due to the busyness we would get what we got. Mind you they were at 20% capacity. I understand the staffing and challenges but he was more concerned with how we were making his job too difficult. Just odd and I wouldn't recommend!
Our favorite breakfast spot in Mandalay bay
A must stop for small plate breakfast with views and bottomless mimosas. A little hike but well worth every step that you need to walk off.
Stick with Tacos
We went on a Monday night, and the A-Team was not in the kitchen. I ordered seafood enchiladas _ tasted like fish sticks, unappetizing and did not finish. My partner had lthe JAMON SERRANO POLLO RELLENO which was dry and came with a side of burnt cabbage. Disappointed Positives - Our waiter was fantastic, the margaritas delicious. Don't bother for Dinner- / - too many other great choices in Vegas.
Enjoyable
The location causes this place to be packed as it is the best restaurant that's closest to the Convention Center. I was lucky to get a chair at the bar on my second attempt. The service was friendly and efficient. The enchiladas were excellent and well presented.
Small Plates Weekend Brunch
We had a Saturday stop at Border Grill for the all you can eat Small Plates Weekend Brunch and had a great time. With 16 items on the menu we had plenty of choice so researched in advance to see what we'd like most. Reality turned out slightly different to what we thought we'd have. I loved the Birria Hash, Barbacoa Benedict and Chia Parfait. The Skirt Steak was good but lacked the wow factor I hoped for. I was too full to have Horchata French Toast unfortunately. The place was mad busy and there was a mix up in our order where the right items arrived but a quantity to serve 4 rather than two. I won't blame the staff or our main server Ben who was so busy but kept a positive attitude and outlook, a great team member and a credit to the place. The downside was that after 4 Breakfast Enchiladas I couldn't face French Toast. I still think this was our best value meal in the whole trip despite feeling too full for an hour after we left. Would go back in a heartbeat, a great concept to sample various Mexican based dishes.
Good find!
We went for lunch. I had the cauli tacos (vegan and gluten free), and they were so good! It was a colorful and lovely presentation! The chips and salsa verde were some of the best I've ever had. Service was very good!
very fresh and flavorful TexMex
A great spot for lunch or brunch featuring a delicious TexMex menu. Dined here outside the other day and had a great Chile Relleno entree. It was a perfect size, well prepared and very flavorful and authentic. The rice and beans were a nice and fresh compliment. They offer fresh chips and a trio of salsas for an additional $3 however it's worth it as they're quite tasty. I love the fact that this restaurant avoids using lard or animal fat to cook their rice, beans or chips which makes for even better tasting menu items. The outdoor section was OK with minimal views and the indoor section was packed so be sure to make a reservation - especially if there is a convention in house.
Light lunch at bar waiting to check in. Decent, nothing too exciting
We sat at the bar, waiting to check into our room in Mandalay Bay. Stephanie was the bartender that took care of us. We each had a drink and shared Nachos with chicken (on the side). They were okay, but nothing special. No vibe in the place, at least when we were there but no complaints.
So yummy!
We came for the all you can eat weekend brunch. We truly enjoyed it. We didn't have much time so we just told the waiter to order us one of everything on the menu and bring them out in any order they choose. Stand outs were the salmon avacado toast, the barbacoa benedict, steak and eggs and the churro tots. We did enjoy all the items though, except the deviled eggs. Nothing wrong with them, just didn't enjoy them. We will wait until they come out with their new menu and go again! The waiter said they change it about once a year, and should be time to change it up soon. Can't wait!
Border Brunch - Oh heck ya!
We've been wanting to try the Border Grill $49 unlimited small plate weekend Border Brunch for some time but due to scheduling have never had the opportunity until last month. It was so worth waiting for! We methodically worked out way through the menu each ordering 3 dishes at a time until we went through the entire rotation, and then just barely had enough room left to order a couple more of our fav's to top the afternoon off. Standout dishes for us included the deviled eggs, salmon avocado toast, diablo chicken and waffle, skirt steak and eggs... I could keep going on. Easily the only two dishes we didn't care for was the conchas and jam (just ok - carbs taking up valuable stomach space) and the chia parfait (poorly prepared). Everything else was fabulous but by the end we did just start ordering things without the accompanying eggs as we'd had enough (ie. second helping of skirt steak). We each added in the $28 bottomless beverage package because... well.... Vegas! and easily got our value out of it. A nice touch if ordering the bottomless mimosas is the provided orange, guava, and cranberry juices to accompany the bubbles, which, btw, is provided in your own tableside bottle. We'll most certainly be back with friends in tow next time around!
🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
We were going to eat at the Mandalay Bay Food Court but did not want to walk more than we needed to. Border Grill just happened to be on the edge of our walking limit. No reservations but we were seated right away on a high top table close to the bar. Service was quick and friendly. Food came out quick too. I had the Border Ceviche. Very good with some " kick ". Wife had the quesadillas and it was enough for two. Very generous portions. Outstanding.
Best Brunch
This is an excellent restaurant. I came for brunch on a Saturday. The price was $45 for all you care to eat small plates. Every plate was flavorful and well presented. The food is outstanding. I particularly enjoyed the steak and eggs, French Toast, Spicy chicken and waffle as well as the pancake of the day. There were multiple Mexican dishes that were very good. Service was prompt and friendly. I also enjoyed the optional all you can drink package that includes mimosas, bloody's and micheladas. I really liked that they give you three juices and pour you a full glass of sparking wine for the mimosas. You decide how much and which juice to add. I recommend getting there early or late if you don't have a reservation because the place does a great business.
Delicious food in a social environment
We got dinner here one night. We sat on the balcony and the temperature was so pleasant that I didn't even realize were were outside. They do a good job of keeping it warm and comfortable as it was super windy and chilly that night. Our server was super nice and attentive. He took great care of us. I ordered the chicken enchiladas without mushrooms. They were some of the best chicken enchiladas I've ever had although they looked super different than anything else with a green sauce and skinny enchiladas. They give generous portions so I had more than enough and still had one enchilada left. I also ordered a strawberry margarita. They don't have blended margaritas so the one I had was extremely strong and I only took a few sips of it as it was overpowering. My two biggest complaints are the noise level and cost. We were seated next to a very large, noisy, and rowdy group and another smaller and equally loud group so it was hard for us to communicate with the people in our own party. Both of these groups stayed almost the entire time that we were there so we had to do a lot of shouting to hear each other. This restaurant is very expensive for what it is. It seems overpriced as are most of the dining facilities within the casinos, but we accepted it as it's part of the convenience of eating on-site.
Avoid breakfast small plate brunch. Order lunch instead
We did the breakfast brunch. It's small plate where you order a batch. The portions are very small (as they should be) so order more than 3. The issue was every item I had was cold. Barbacoa was nearly all fat. And it took 20 - 40 minutes in between. Had to wait 10 minutes for server to ask for second order and 20-30 minutes for food to come out. Like they were trying to minimize how much you get? That said, someone else in our party ordered from the lunch menu and said it was great. And warm. Bottom line order from lunch menu! Logistics of small plate menu does not work. Note they did give one meal free after we complained re cold food.
Good food, poor service
We enjoyed our food and cocktails, but the whole experience was tainted by very poor service. We had to wait much too long even to be greeted by our waiter and never one were we checked on to see if we needed anything after receiving our food. There are so many restaurants in Vegas, I would give this one a miss in the future.
Rude and unacceptable hostess. Will not return because of Skylar
The food was good but Skylar the hostess ruined our dinning experience. We asked for the open table overlooking the pool on outdoor patio (one table away from the one she wanted to sit us at). She said no it was a different server. I told her I was happy to wait for the table, she said no. The other hostess came in within 30 seconds and sat the table I had asked for. I looked at Skylar and said that was rude and very unfair to a paying customer. She shrugged and walked away. Made my meal rather un enjoyable from the start.
Unwelcoming entrance
Went to visit on 8-12 with my husband and son. The hostess was very unwelcoming she made me feel like I didn't belong there. Then we asked how we could be seated outside because of my weak immune system and I don't feel comfortable sharing that information she said only with reservations. So we placed a reservation she said only available was 9:30 it was 7:50 at that moment. Didn't question the hour because I noticed large parties inside. When we arrived at 9:25 for our reservation she was whispering to the second hostess just seat them there they don't have a choice and we don't want to set a table up. Once we walked around to my fear they sat us inside. I asked why they said because there was no table set up. This hostess said it very snarky. It was late and hungry and chose to just stay there. Food flavor was great but the service was terrible.
Always top notch
One of my GO TO places in Vegas for years. Consistently excellent. Great food. Great service. I had the smoked fish tacos and Watermelon Margarita Super tasty! Going back again before leaving this trip for the Molcjetes Pot Fish dish which is outstanding every time.
The real surprise!
We came to dinner without any expectations but …. What a great surprise!! The tomato soup with sea food and avocado on top is amazing! So unique. And the enchilada with sea food is 5 star ⭐ The barmen is friendly and the price is more than honest. Don't miss this restaurant.
Ignore my review at your peril
Forget what the blurb says, this restaurant is awful. The guacamole was flavourless and processed to death, clearly made in bulk at some soulless factory. Our tacos were dry, pathetic, cubes of meat slapped on a some industrially made piece of corn. Calling this Mexican is an insult to the glorious cuisine. I've rarely had a bad meal in the USA, but this is the standout one.
Boarder Grill at Mandalay Bay
Had an excellent early dinner at the Boarder Grill in Mandalay Bay. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available_ we sat outside and had a nice view of one of the pool areas. Quick, friendly service, good food and reasonably priced. Our " go to " Mexican restaurant in Las Vegas was Hecht en Vegas at the MGM Grand which is now sadly closed. The Boarder Grill turned out to be a good replacement.
Disappointed
Firstly - ordered a " Cadillac " margarita and had it brought to the table in a tall water glass with no garnish - just a straw and ice. Really? This is the best you can do for $17 US... It tasted & looked like limeade. The food items were better but overpriced. Maybe it's worth 3 stars based on location and decent service.. Very light lunch for 2 adults and 2 kids under 12 quickly amounted to $200.
Worth the hype? Hmm, underwhelming
Maybe my expectations were too high after seeing lots of good reviews. I left fairly underwhelmed by the whole experience. Two of us dined on Cinco De Mayo, which we thought would be fun - but this may have been a mistake as the restaurant was very busy and servers seemed preoccupied with a number of large groups. We felt forgotten - service was slow, we weren't offered water, there was a long wait for tables to be cleared between courses, it all just felt a bit of hard work. However the atmosphere was good and the outdoor veranda seating upstairs has great views across the pool complex. Food was good but not mind-blowing, and entrees are not overly generous in size. When servers did attend to us they were very friendly and happy to help. On a quieter day the experience may have been a lot better. Having had some outstanding Vegas meals, I'd find it hard to recommend Border Grill over many other options at Mandalay Bay and the south end of the Strip.
Highly recommend this delicious restaurant
This restaurant is delicious. We went with a group of 7 people for a 50th bday and had a stellar meal. The service was great, the food was delicious, and the housemade tequila was perfection. We all ordered different things and they were all great. Can't say enough good things about this experience.
Food not great
atmosphere was good, we sat outside. Our server was great! But food was not worth the price. I had the enchilada trio with everything except for the vegetarian one. It was dry and the tort was hard and not very flavorful. The seafood one was very fishy.
COFFEE
coffee... not that expensive... normal prices.... lines from 7-9am then lessens... but it DOESNT got fast. Plan on waitng 20 min AT LEAST
Never a disappointing meal
Second visit to Border Grill and has become a must stop when we are in town visiting. Great service, great atmosphere, and amazing food. Can't go wrong with Yucatan Pork and Seafood Molcajete has become one of my favorite dishes. Restaurant was really good about dietary restrictions as a couple of people in our group weren't able to eat specific things
Delicious Mexican food
Really good chips and salsa. Shrimp and beef quesadillas were the best I've had. It was a very windy night and the doors from the patio kept blowing open. Hostess really wanted us to sit out there but luckily they found indoor seating for us. Staff was attentive, helpful and friendly. Nice atmosphere
Just ok
Grabbed a table with a work associate for lunch. Place was swamped so we were fortunate to get seated. Chips and salsa were the high point of the meal. Chips were a little greasy but the three salsa had some good flavor, especially the smoked salsa. Grilled fish tacos were just ok. They looked amazing but were somehow bland. The beans and rice seemed like they had been sitting around awhile, they had a hard crust on both.
for Sunday brunch small plate this place is hard to beat
A little jaunt down the hallway but well worth it. This is our go too place when staying at Mandalay bay for brunch and football Our server Ronnie was nothing short of amazing. He and his team were there to impress and that they did. For a small plate breakfast experience you need to try this place.
Very Good, We'll Be Back!
My husband and I went to Border Grill for an early lunch on Saturday. The restaurant offers an unlimited small plates brunch on the weekends, but we opted to order from the lunch menu this time. The chicken poblano enchiladas were exceptionally good. I highly recommend them. The carnitas also tasted good, but they were more like a pulled pork taco than carnitas. They were missing the porky-crispness on the outside of the meat to contrast with the tender pork inside the little pieces of meat that we so enjoy with carnitas. Having said that, we definitely enjoyed our meal. The restaurant was attractive and humming with people enjoying their Saturday brunch. The service was beyond excellent, and we will definitely be back to try the small plate brunch offerings.
Perfect meal to end the stay
Easy dining, great food, and the football on tv. What more could you want. Prices were reasonable as well.
Not for us
Had potential - but 3 of the 6 of us didn't like our food. Took one bite each and the waitress didn't even question it. Chips and guacamole were good though. Also waited 10 mins when we had a reservation and there were open tables.
Decent lunch spot
I've eaten lunch at the Border Grill many times. It's located waaaay behind the Mandalay Bay and in the conference / convention center section. We were seated downstairs which wasn't the best, but the food has never disappointed.
Very nice lunch
My wife and I had an excellent lunch here. They offer a unique variety of dishes and both inside and outside dining options. The resorts pools lazy river is adjacent to outside dining.
Delicious plant-based options!
Was looking for Mexican because I know there are usually quite a few plant-based options. I was surprised to find that a significant percentage of their menu items were either vegan or could be easily made vegan. I could NOT believe how delicious everything was! The cauliflower quinoa dish was excellent, as was the Peruvian potatoes and the black beans and rice side dishes. Instead of an option I chose four sides and ordered tortillas to make my one tacos!! The salsas were delicious too! Huge portions, thoughtfully made! I'll be back
Excellent food and service - just go!
In LV to celebrate my sister's 60th birthday - she picked the restaurant. We're all accomplished home cooks and can be tough critics at restaurants. We started with drinks - delicious. Guacamole was the best I've ever had. Ordered the poblano chicken enchiladas as an appetizer to share. I will be dreaming about this dish for a long time. Simple ingredients, perfectly executed. We seriously wanted to lick the poblano sauce off the dish. Our entrees were equally delicious (duck dish was amazing with a fig mole). Our server was great and the manager stopped by to check on us which was a nice touch. Very good service all around. Would 100% recommend this restaurant. Wish I could find their recipe for the chicken enchiladas - will be trying to replicate that sauce for a long time.
Best Dinner so Far
Inside Mandalay Bay a medium walk from the elevators. What a wonderful experience. The food and staff were excellent. Above and beyond what I expected. Chips, salsas and guacamole were superb. The entrees were top notch flavorful and well plated. Our server totally out did herself. Definitely a positive experience.
Good but expensive
Quick lunch- really good blood orange margarita. Sat outside with a view of the part of the pool. Great server. Steak nachos were good & enough for two! About $60 for 2 beers, margarita & nachos.
Delicious with great service
Stopped in after a visit to the Shark Reef at the Mandalay Bay. Best lunch we had in Las Vegas. It started with our server, Candice A (# 463). She was excellent! She steered us in the right direction for our food, very polite, checked on us frequently but not overbearing. The food is fantastic. It's fresh, seasoned perfectly and comes out hot. Good portion size also. Steak taco, fish taco (with the radishes on top) guacamole and their complementary chips and trio of salsa.
Great Vegetarian and Great Service
I was able to enjoy a great lunch at Border Grill. My server Tiffany outdid herself explaining all the vegetarian options. This restaurant is known for its ability to cater to food allergies and vegetarian / vegan / gluten free options. I ordered their margarita with Grand Mariner. This margarita rocked just on its own. I paired it with the green corn tamale. The vegetarian tamale was made with grits instead of masa. It was surreal. I also enjoyed the complimentary chips and trio of house made salsas. Trying to decide which vegetarian meal to select was arduous. But I opted for their nachos without the carne asada. These were the best nachos I have ever eaten. Please see my photos. Even though I was stuffed I ordered their churro and cinnamon ice cream desert. The churro was hot straight from the fryer with cinnamon ice cream melting atop a bed of fresh berries. This restaurant was a great choice for locals or those visiting our illustrious city.
First lunch of the trip
located in Mandalay Bay hotel, dining is either indoor or patio style with overhead coverage facing the lazy river, they have small plate menu if you are hungry and not starving
Prima brunch!
Heerlijk buiten op het terras genoten van allerlei hapjes met verschillende keukens als basis. Daarnaast een mij onbekende IPA genomen. Goede prijs / kwaliteit en vriendelijk personeel.
Second time better than the first
My wife and I had brunch here in 2013 and it was easily the best meal of our trip, so we were looking forward to having brunch here again last weekend. Again it did not disappoint, and was actually better than our first visit. The brunch is only available on Sat. and Sun, which is why we haven't gone back sooner, but we already decided next trip to try Border Grill for dinner. The brunch menu has 16 small plate items that you order from, my wife and I tried 3 at a time and eventuallywe covered the entire menu. Our favs were the Steak & Egg, Short Rib Hash, Chilaquiles, and Chef's Pancakes. We also got the unlimited mimosas that are now served a bit different, they bring the ingredients to your table and you make your own. Luis was our waiter and he and Joaquin took good care of us. Even the food runner took pride in his work and explained every dish. A very good brunch experience.
Loved What I Ordered
Four of us had dinner here before attending a Cirque performance at Mandalay Bay. We had a wonderful server (Cindy) and with her recommendations, we all enjoyed our meals. Mine was the Chicken Poblano Enchiladas. They were wonderful and had such great flavor. There were three to the order, so I'm glad they didn't come with beans or rice, it would have been too much. Their strawberry lemonade was good, but you pay for refills. Your first basket of chips is complimentary, but you pay for a refill. The chips do come with three nice salsas to sample. Service was good.
Absolutely delicious brunch - would go back in an instant
We ate here on a Saturday (late) morning for brunch and had a fabulous meal. I am a huge brunch fan and this is one of the best I've had. You pay one flat price and can order unlimited items from the menu (all small plates). Out server was excellent and recommended we start with 2 or 3 small plates each, and the. Continued to check on us and see what we wanted for the next " round ". We also selected the option of bottomless mimosa and did not regret this decision! There are 5 flavors of mimosas and out server brought out a new flavor with each round of food. The food was excellent, quirky flavors that you would not expect to be put together but they just " worked ". Highly recommend this place!!!
Sunday brunch
We went for Sunday Brunch. There was a large assorted choice of small plates. Everything was well prepared and plated. My wife is from Mexico and she enjoyed the morning very much. We will definitely return in the future.
Best & Most Entertaining Brunch I've Ever Had
Do not go to Vegas without eating brunch at the Border Grill on Sat or Sun. This was hands down the best brunch I've ever eaten and was without a doubt, the most fun I've ever had eating brunch. You pay one price and get a full menu (at least 15 items) of small plates to order from. You order two or three plates. They bring those out. Then you order two or three more and you keep going until you can't eat any more. Each plate was better than the previous one and it was so entertaining. I really did eat each and every item that I've attached a picture of. I got through 9 items before I had to throw in the towel. My server, Rachael, was fantastic, as was the young man who brought each dish out and explained how it had been prepared and what ingredients were included. I met the new manager, Brian, and chef Mike Minor, who just happened to be a native of my current state of residence, Pennsylvania. Kudos to the whole crew. It was just fantastic. Sit outside on the first level under a palm tree for the best experience. The Border Grill is a Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken restaurant and it will not disappoint. I had such a great time at brunch, I brought six friends later that day for them to enjoy a fantastic meal. By that point... I was just watching, though. I don't think I ate again until the next day. I absolutely got my money's worth.
Delicious Experience
We ate here before seeing MJ One. The food was very tasty. We started with ceviche appetizers and then had wonderful entrees of fish tacos, skirt steak, chicken and cheese enchiladas. The service was fantastic too! We will be back!
Loved this spot for brunch
What a fun brunch spot! We loved being able to order off of the menu and order as much as we wanted for one price. Loved sitting outside over looking the pool. Everything was fresh and waitstaff was incredible. Will be back next time we are in sin city.
Still good but disappointing
I visited the Border Grille 2 years ago and the food was fantastic! So after raving to my friends about how good it was, we went back and I was a little disappointed. They had changed my favorite starter Queso Fundido to something completely different. We spoke to the waitress and she confirmed they had changed the recipe. It was still ok but definitely not as good as it was. Then our meals came and although they weren't bad, I've had better Mexican other places. Our waitress was sweet and very accommodating however I'm not sure I'll go back. Food is too expensive to be bland. The one upside is the view. The location we visited is in Mandalay Bay overlooking the pool. Very pretty.
Fun spot for a drink and a snack
Middle of the afternoon, we are wandering around Mandalay Bay, just gawking at all the restaurants and casinos. Fun. The sign for Border Grill caught our eye ans we thought - why not. We went in and sat at the bar. They had a special margarita that day (which was quite good, but not memorable). My husband went for the Ginger Ancho Chile Margarita from the main menu. Wow, was it good. You could taste the ginger and the chile, but nothing was overwhelming. We liked the margarita so much that we took a picture of the menu to remember what went in it. And, the sweet bartender pulled out the bottles she used so we would be more easily able to find them at the liquor store. Nice! We had the chips and salsa (s) - really flavorful! And guacamole, which was awesome. And they comped up a little corn cake - like a little sweet tamale. Yum. I can't imagine a nicer place to while away an afternoon! Thanks Susan. Thank, Mary Sue.
Worth every penny! Best brunch ever!
I can't explain enough how amazing this place was! The food was beyond mouth watering especially being that it was endless. You must go here with an empty stomach. The staff here is very attentive and informing. They really listen to your interests and pair the bottomless mimosas well with the food. The food was authentic Mexican and had very different tastes than " Tex-Mex ". You really enjoyed the various flavors and seasonings. The mimosas were abundant and delicious. My personal favorite was the mint and pomegranate mimosa. Considering all that's included you can't go wrong. I went here for a birthday and they treated us like royalty.
Excellent food and service
We ate here for a business lunch. We sat outside which was nice even though a bird pooped on someone at our table. The guacamole, chips and salsa were very good. I ordered the avocado tacos and they were also very good. The presentation of the food was very pretty. I would definitely eat here again!
Best brunch EVER!!!!
So many small plates and they're unlimited!! We tried about 17 of them and were so full!!! I haven't been there in the last 18 months, and I'm sure the menu changed a bit since Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken LOVE fresh ingredients!!!!!
Wonderful Mexican food and the friendliest service
I had enjoyed dinner at Border Grill four years ago and they did not disappoint me now. If you try their braised veal breast, you will know what good food is all about. Yucatan Pork is another great choice: it is full of delicate flavor and just melts in your mouth. Fantastic guacamole for appetizer as well. I did not try their ceviche trio, but my friend said it was really good. Elegant modern decor, great ambience, excellent service and, what is the most important, real Mexican food, not just your average Tex-Mex. Our server, Marlon, was very attentive, professional and courteous. You might need reservations - it is a busy place.
AMAZING BRUNCH!
We wanted to try a brunch and this is definitely the ONE to try!!! Unlimited tastes for $30 and was absolutely delicious! Service was great but did start out a little slow. Would DEFINITELY go back! You can also get unlimited mimosas for an extra $10.
Border Grill Lunch at Mandalay Bay
We sat on the outside, overlooking the tree-hidden pools. Even though it was a bright day at noon, it would have been nicer if there was more lighting. All of the foods were seasoned well. Since we ate mostly tacos, they were served on corn tortillas, but I have a personal preference to flour tortillas. The drinks were tasty too.
We happen to stumble upon this culinary gem!
We happen to stumble upon this culinary gem while visiting Mandalay Bay at lunch time as almost all the restaurants in the Casino were closed for lunch (Big surprise for Vegas). Last fine dining stop before you get to the food court from the casino floor. It oversees the Lazy River if you are seated on the patio, like we did. Patio is heated in winter. Top Chef Master Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger have done an amazing job to make sure that the dishes are unique and delicious. The fish taco's are the best and the drinks are top class, many margarita choices and unique cocktails. We will revisit Border Grill for sure on our best visit, even though there are hundreds of great restaurant in Vegas.
Best Brunch
We had been here previously for lunch and enjoyed it so much I wanted to try their brunch, which is only offered on Saturday & Sunday. This is one of the best, though pricey, brunches I've ever had. While they say it's " tapas " style, the portions are Vegas size, so you know they're huge. We sat on the patio with a view of the pool. The food and service were wonderful. I only wish they would put out a cookbook of just what they offer at brunch so I could recreate at home.... this place will definitely be part of our next Vegas trip.
YUMMY!!
When my husband and I checked into the Mandalay Bay around noon on Dec. 26, we asked the front desk agent for a recommendation for a restaurant with a patio as it was a beautiful day to sit outside. He suggested Border Grill, and I was pleased as I had a restaurant.com certificate for that restaurant. As soon as we got to there, I knew it was a great choice. Our server, Tiffany, was awesome! She was so patient when we couldn't decide what we wanted to drink or eat, she explained everything very well and really tried to learn our likes and dislikes so that she could recommend things we would like. They had some special holiday selections so to drink I had a cranberry mojito, which was delicious and my husband had a Modelo chelada style (with lime juice and salted rim). For entrees I ordered a pork burrito and my husband ordered the asada tacos. Everything was excellent and so flavorful!! We would love to eat there again.
Terrible experience
We were here part of a large group a couple weeks ago. Border Grill ran out of food for our group and also champagne for our " bottomless " mimosas. I would suggest going to a real buffet instead of leaving hungry. Several people in our group left for In N Out burger.
Incredulous
My boyfriend, myself and 2 other friends were walking through Mandalay Bay and were looking for somewhere to eat. My 2 friends were settling on possible Chinese, which my boyfriend didn't fancy so he quickly suggested the nearby Border Grill - Modern Mexican (his favourite being Mexican). It looked relatively promising - decor and setting seemed nice. The whole fiasco started as soon as we sat down. The server brought out 4 glasses of water - 3 of them appeared very dirty upon further inspection. There weren't that many people in the restaurant, yet despite our best efforts it took us an incredible 10mins just to flag someone down who could deal with the water. As our server approached our table and before we could even say anything, he grabbed 2 of the glasses muttering that they were chipped (which they were) and took them away. We finally settled on ordering food. 30mins later we were still sitting there, hungry. A couple that had sat 2 tables down from us 15mins earlier got up and left after they realized noone was going to bother serving them. When we finally got our food, it was overally pretty bad. The appetizers were decent, but the main dishes were either incredibly salty or oily. At least they got the free nachos / dip right. I gave my boyfriend so much grief for this incident that I swore I would never eat Mexican again for 3 months. My suggestion - avoid this restaurant. Both the service AND the food in general are sub-par.
Disappointing
My husband and I went to this restaurant because we heard it was the " best mexican restaurant in Vegas " in some guidebook. We live in Central California, so we have had a ton of mexican food, and let me tell you, we couldn't find anything good there. Nothing was remarkable, and we tried several things on the menu. We would not return; there are so many other places to try. The service was relatively bad as well.
Salty Mediocre Mexican Place
This place is lame. The wait staff acts like this is the coolest, newest concept ever. I mean, woo, gourmet Mexican. I have eaten at this place in Los Angeles since about 1990 and I think most of us are clear on the concept. It's a kind of food that I love, if you do it right. Don't charge me a ton for inferior versions of Mexican classics that taste 10 times better in East Los Angeles. My shrimp was salty and fishy. My friend's fish was fishy and salty. The beans were salty. The guac was salty. You crave salt? This is your spot. The servers were fair but very high-school " this tequila is like so awesome. " The Margaritas took great tequila and masked the flavors with cloyingly sweet lemon-lime Kool-Aid mix. This place is not amusing. At $60 a couple it could be cute but not $150.00
Disappointing Dining Experience
I went to Border Grill in the Mandalay Bay Hotel for an early dinner with (seven) friends before seeing the Mamma Mia show. I should have been wary when we walked into a nearly empty restaurant. We proceeded to order margaritas and mojitos to accompany our chips and guacamole. The cocktails were good but served in small glasses. The appetizer and salad course followed. The rock shrimp ceviche was devoid of shrimp, extremely salty and was difficult to eat unless you downed a couple of glasses of water as a chaser. The mexican chopped salad was large, yet uninspiring... you would think more thought would be put into their starter courses. Throughout the evening, our waiter never stopped by to ask how everything was going. The main courses finally made their debut much to everyone's disappointment. A couple of friends had the pescado veracruzano, which was a halibut fillet with vegetables poached in white wine garlic broth. The presentation was nice, but the broth was infused with so much citrus that you could barely taste the fish. The puerco en mole negro, - slow roasted pork in oaxacan black mole sauce, - tasted bitter and was left virtually untouched. Others on the table ordered the tecate carnitas (shredded roast pork wrapped in tortillas). When asked how it tasted, they managed to mutter that it was " okay ". I had the misfortune of ordering the smoked pork chop with cholita glaze, which was extremely tough and dry. When I asked for a steak knife, they looked at me strangely as if I was making an unusual request. After about 10 minutes, the bus boy returned with a knife and proceeded to tell me he had to " go downstairs " to retrieve my cutlery. Oh, did I forget to mention the table is set with only one fork & butter knife. The wait staff asks you to " save " your fork after clearing the first course. How cheap is that? I know this is a casual restaurant but you would think a salad fork would be part of the table setting. Well after a disappointing dinner, we paid the bill and noticed the automatic 18% gratuity. This along with the bad meal and poor service left a bad taste in all of our mouths. Thankfully, the Mamma Mia show was outstanding and made up for our dismal dinner. I would expect more from Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger. Possibly a site visit out to Vegas would help with quality control. If you would still like to try out this restaurant, my advice would be to skip the meal and order a couple of drinks along with some chips / salsa.
Borderline
While in the Mandalay Bay, I checked out Border Grill " Modern Mexican " for an early dinner. The decor I liked - simple, yet modern in muted but vibrant colors. But the service was slow and the food (appetizer and entree) were average and below what I expected. Its presentation may have been slightly modern but the quality was like many other chain mexican restaurants if not slightly lower. It was cost-effective while being in a casino / convention hotel and that may be the reason to suggest it.
Really good but not cheap
We chose this restaurant for lunch on the spur of the moment because we unexpectedly had some extra time before our flight home. The decor is bright and fun, all golds and oranges with cartoonish Mexican portraits painted on the walls. The dishes and glassware have a funky retro look. Margaritas were good, but not exceptional. Guacamole as an appetizer was fresh and terrific - we devoured it. Our entrees - a brisket sandwich, fish tacos, quesadillas and a spicy fish soup - were all very good, the brisket being the standout, the soup the least favorite. Lunch came to $25 per person, but could've been under $20 if we had skipped the round of drinks. This isn't typical Mexican food and is worth the extra cost.
One of the most underated casino restaurants
consistent haute cuisine Mexican food. Inexpensive by casino standards, and wonderful service. You must eat here.
Overrated
Both my wife and I had the same thought while eating our meal. It was overrated. We could have had a better meal for half the price at any number of Mexican restaurants around town. Two enchiladas and nothing else for $32. Please. That's ridiculous. There was nothing special about them. A tiny skirt steak with not much flavor and only some little greens as an accompaniment for $32. Good grief. A Tres Leches cake that was three bites. Come on. Very disappointing.
Not a place to go for margaritas.
My fault for not consulting Trip Advisor ahead of time. I used a guide book and took only one opinion instead of multiple ones. Here's my 2 cents... The restaurant is located on the far south end of Mandalay Bay near the big wave pool. We had an 8:00 pm reservation on Thursday, August 18th and upon entering realized that we didn't really need one because it was practically empty (not a good sign, but at this point I'm excited about eating here). We opted to eat outside because it seemed cold inside, so I can't blame them for the heat. Let me start by saying that our waiter was very nice and personable and seemed to know the menu pretty well. But... it took 5 minutes to get water to the table, and it took 10-15 minutes to get margaritas to the table. I don't know about you, but when I go to a Mexican joint I want those margaritas out quickly! And they should get them out quickly so they can sell you even more. The chips and 3 salsas were decent and they kept 'em coming. Overall the food was just plain mediocre. Nothing spectacular, nothing too terrible. You can look up the menu online using the restaurant name in the address. I had the Chicken Chilaquiles and wasn't overly impressed. Heavy on the 3 cheeses and the chips in the dish were soggy. The individual flavors seemed to get lost in the mix, literally. I guess anyone can have a bad meal, but a good restaurant should be consistent enough that at least one of the people at the table (4) really likes their meal. But the biggest complaint I have is the margaritas. When will restaurants learn that the sour mix makes or breaks the drink?! If you use a powdered mix or a cheap sugar-flavored mix you will kill a margarita. Fresh lime juice is the key. And the saddest part is they use some really good tequilas. Plenty of other non-Mexican bars / restaurants in Vegas used real limes and those margaritas were good. These were not good and they started at around $8 and went up from there. I am usually good for 2 or 3, but in this case I stopped after one. I guess I am a margarita snob and I know many of you will not care one way or the other about them, but it is a measure of the quality of the restaurant. If they skimp on quality ingredients in the drinks then why wouldn't they do the same elsewhere? In summary, I don't recommend it based on my meal. Others have shared my experience and I'm sure some will like it just fine. My thought is that there should have been more positives than negatives here. But like any other reviews on this site, taste is hard to measure and extremely personal and you don't know me, so take it with a grain of salt... just not a margarita!
Worth visiting if you can find it
We stumbled across this restaurant while we were exploring our hotel after some drinks at a bar. It's not easy to find - it's sort of on the way out past the pool exit towards the convention center. However once you are there, the views are incredible and the food is even better! The prices are high but you would expect that for Vegas, but we appreciated how quiet it was and it was easy to get a table. We are going to check it out on our next trip to Vegas.
Blown Away, Highly recomended
The border grill serves great food!! Its pretty simple, best mexican food in vegas!!!!! Great service with the best chips. Guacamole is the best!! Although it is costly
Great service and food
We ate here after reading the numerous lackluster reviews, figuring we'd see if we'd agree. We did not agree in the least. We had a wonderful meal here. The service was fantastic and the food was wonderful. I ate here with my wife, two kids and my brother. The chips were nice and fresh and with the three kinds of salsa, we had to be careful not to fill up on them. My brother and I split the ceviche sampler, which was a tasty variety of a couple bites of each of their three kinds of ceviche. We got the sweet corn tamales for our son, who really liked them, as did we, since the three of us finished them off. My wife got the Green Chicken Poblano Enchiladas, which she said were " wicked good, " and she's not even from Boston. The cream sauce with the corn and mushrooms was very tasty, even I liked it, and I don't like mushrooms. My brother had the turkey tostadas which he said were excellent and light (but they gave you lots of food!). I had the carnitas tacos, which were very tender and juicy. The flavor was great. The service was really good. Our first server went off duty in the middle of our service, so we actually had two servers. They both were very friendly and made great suggestions. Our children are both young, but they never treated us like the pariahs that many restaurants do. They doted on our boys and treated them with respect, which was greatly appreciated. We would definitely come back again.
Fantastic
You can get vouchers on Resteraunt.com for this place which will save you over half price. The decor is lovely and the food is high standard tex mex. The staff were very friendly and helped us with our choice. Icant remember the name of the dish I had but it was gorgeous. It was very slow braised pork in a mouth watering sauce, Overall I highly recommend this place and would gladly return
Outstanding!
Seven of us went for Brunch. Not a place that I would have thought about but glad we were brought there. Food was outstanding.. Tapas plates that were beautifully prepared and presented. Server, Eduardo took great care to make sure our dining experience was incredible. Met the Manager Melody and she really looked after us and all of her guests a well. The back servers were always present when we needed them to be around but never hovered at the table.. The menu is available to review on line. For the brunch I had the bacon infused Bloody Mary.. the others had the endless Mimosas of various flavors. We asked for and got the recipe for one of the dishes that was outstanding.. Go and try it for brunch.. guess which dish we thought was the best! sit outside by the lazy river
Saw this restaurant on tv and gave it a try
We watched The Chef show that interviewed the chef / owners of this restaurant. Everything they made looked so good we had to give it a try. We had the Yucatán pork wrapped in banana leaves, it was soooo good. We had guacamole and chips that was made fresh and chunky. They served 3 sauces all made from scratch with 3 unique delicious flavors. The are in a back of the Mandolay Bay that was hard to find, but worth looking. Folks need to start returning to Vegas!
Slow and unattentive
I have been staying at Mandalay Vay since 1993 and this food is terrible. The grossly over priced slop is not worth your time. Eat a light lunch and go to Fleur for an enjoyable meal. Unless you enjoy eating terrible Mexican food that is haphazardly thrown together.
Excellent Food with Iffy Service
We have dined at the Border Grill at least five times in the last 8 years. The food is always outstanding, but the service has at times been less than stellar. This was our experience again this time. We had reservations for dinner and were quickly seated without wait. We had a great corner table in the downstairs dining room. The Border Grill has a lively atmosphere with a casual but upscale décor. Dinner entrees range from approximately $18 - $29. Upon being seated, the first faux pas occurred. A server asked if anyone else would be joining us. When we said no, he reached across both of us to remove the two additional place settings at the table. We ordered the Border Shaker Margarita, which is one of our top five favorite margaritas in the world. It's a potent but very tasty concoction. The shaker is brought to the table with enough margaritas to fill two martini glasses. When our server delivered the shaker, the second faux pas occurred. As he began to pour my glass, he spilled about ¼ of the shaker on to the table. I quickly looked at him and quit pouring. He then said, " Wow. I made a mess. How about I just leave this with you to pour? " And he then walked away. He didn't (a) apologize, (b) wipe off the table, or (c) offer to top of the shaker (which runs $18 a pop). When we ordered a second round later in the meal, he delivered the shaker, set it on the table and said, " I'm not even going to try to pour again. " Our food was outstanding. We shared an appetizer of roasted plantain empanadas stuffed with black beans and cotija cheese. They were divine. For entrees, I enjoyed the Tecate carnitas, which were served with guacamole, tortillas, pico de gallo and beans. My partner ordered the fish tacos, which were served with rice, beans, and slaw. Everything was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend Border Grill, but do anticipate glitches with service. I appreciate a casual atmosphere and attitude, but when I'm paying close to $100 for dinner for two, I expect the service to be a bit more attentive.
Unlimited small plates for brunch
For $35 per person, you can get unlimited Mexican inspired small plates for brunch. And an extra $10 pp will add unlimited mimosas in seven or more flavors. Whether you're out on the deck on a sunny day, or inside at the bar catching a game, you won't be disappointed. The small plate menu is extensive with over twenty choices. Favorites include shrimp and grits, a cauliflower taquito, steak and eggs, and for something sweet, churro tots. This is great place to spend a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday.
Do Not Go
10 of us went to the Border Grill on Saturday, April 30, 2005. We had reservations. Our table was ready but it was the only thing that was ready. Drinks took a very long time as did our meals which were average. We ordered desert and their were no utensils available or plates, we waited 15 minutes to eat our dessert. The coffee was not made and took 20 minutes to get to our table. No one cared about the lack of services. My advice is do not waste your time here.
Chic Mexican food
They take Mexican food and put a metro twist on it. They do not serve Tacos if that's what you are looking for.
Best Meal Ever!
We made a reservation for the Border Grill weekend brunch for 1pm on a Saturday as we were planning our Las Vegas vacation. We called the day of our reservation and asked if they could push up our reservation to noon and they were happy to accomodate. This may have been the BEST meal my husband and I have EVER had! We were seating outside on the the covered patio overlooking the pool area. Our waitress was wonderful. Chips and three varieties of salsa were on the table and she quickly brought us the fruit plate, empanadas, and guacamole. We ordered the " all you can eat " tapas style brunch and I got the bottomless mimosas (passion fruit). Every dish we ordered was so tasty and thoughtful. My favorite was the sweet corn tamales and my husband loved the breakfast enchiladas and the steak and eggs. The eggs benedict was also wonderful with a perfectly cooked soft-cooked egg. We honestly were so full that we didn't get to try every dish or have seconds of the ones we loved! Also, the waitress kept bringing me mimosas without me having to ask... which is great! The difference with this brunch is that every dish was very thoughtful and distict. Like getting to have a little bit of a bunch of goumet meals! I would recommmed the brunch to anyone. The atmosphere, food, and service makes for a perfect experience. Side note..... my parents went here for dinner one night and my mother ordered the chicken mole. She said it was the best thing she has EVER tasted and I have never heard her comment on a restaurant, let alone a specific dish. Go to Border Grill!
Great Food, Friendly Service, Nice Atmosphere
I booked reservations through OpenTable for my wife, kids (11 and 14) and myself for Spring Break while we were spending a night in Las Vegas and catching a Cirque d'Soleil show. We sat on a lovely patio with a decent view of the Mandalay Bay beach / pool area. Our friendly and efficient server was terrific. We had fantastic cocktails (classic mojito and Mexican mai tai) which were tasty and strong (in a good way... they didn't skimp on the booze). The chips and salsa were amazing and they kept refilling us. Dinners were excellent -- grilled octopus was incredible, roasted chicken enchiladas were tasty, baked lime chicken and skirt steak were both amazing. Nice protions, well prepared, and delicious. Dessert was a churro ice cream sandwich that was incredible! The whole family enjoyed it! Please note, it was a bit pricey... but about what I would expect for a nice sit down dinner and drinks in Vegas. If you're wanting fast, cheap, acoBell style Mexican food, you should go somewhere else.
Great customer service!
First off - the customer service was awesome. I'd noted in my reservation that it was a birthday dinner and they went out of their way to identify who had the birthday, and brought my brother a celebratory champagne to start and a dessert to finish the meal, on the house. So special. Second - there are several dishes on the menu that are awesome. The complimentary salsa and chips. The house guacamole. The Brussels sprouts side dish. And the veggie quesadillas. Third - the cocktails are great and the beers too! We were not impressed with the fish tacos (fish definitely not fresh) but the chicken and the brisket were decent. Not fabulous but good. The tortillas were delicious, for sure. The bathrooms are a hike from the restaurant so give yourself time.
Always a favorite!
Get the Queso Fundido! It's truly the best queso that you'll ever have! The tacos are also wonderful! The service has always been spot on, and I've never had any complaints. They do charge $.50 for water, but you should be fine with that. Last I had heard it was filtered.
Disappointed
Took visiting family to Border Grill in Mandalay Bay. This is a great place to do lunch after the aquarium This time we were really let down by poor service. Our party of 4 adults and a child was shown to a table for two. Corrected that. Ordered guacamole to start.... never came...... asked about it and asked for water for 4 adults...... got 3 glasses. No guacamole.... Asked for 4th glass of waternever came. Food came... no silverware / napkins.... had to ask for it.... asked again about guacamole..... when I asked to cancel it, it appeared in seconds. But no chips. Had to ask..... server said no charge for guacamole..... finally got 4th glass of water at the end of the meal.. when check came I was surprised to find a charge for the 4 glasses of tap water. Asked our server.... she was almost rude in her response. : " I pointed this out to you in great detail. It's noted on the menu! " She went on about the filtration process and the fees going to charity...... I certainly don't begrudge a $2.00 charitable donation but I did not have any such conversation from the server. The food was great!! Never disappointing, but the service was badly lacking. Our server was Angela S.
Excellent Food
We help an event here in February. The food was fantastic, the staff was great, and it was an easy in and out for our attendees. They are not flexible at all in working with you, but the end result is good.
Downhill from wonderful host
Hosts were lovely. Best part of the staff! Table filthy chairs as well. Seriously how hard is it to wipe down before seating? Finally seated ordered Steak kale Caesar salad mistake. Served with no steak knife. When trying to cut steak which by the way was not medium rare it was raw, bowl it's served in topples over. Serve it with a knife, cooked and a different dish. Our waitress never came back to check on us had to flag down hosts to get some help. Place was not busy. Our waitress knew the menu and she was nice but again just didn't come back. The bar area is nice.
Best food in Mandalay Bay resort
Stayed in the hotel for a week. Tried most of the restaurants and this was easily the best. Friendly staff. Great choice on the menu and I love that they can make some dishes vegan. Cauliflower tacos - yes! Turkey salad - oh yes. Well done you guys. Awesome!
Excellent Mexican
I really enjoyed lunch here. We viewed the shark exhibit and decided to stop for lunch on way back. We decided to get the cheese appetizer which is not what you would expect. It is thick, spicy cheese that you cut and place on tortilla - delicious. I had the carne asada tacos and my wife had pork tacos - both very good. The server gave us a free appetizer to try made of a corn with salsa. All in all, I would definitely go back and it was great
Went for lunch
My lovely wife is a Veterinarian, so every couple of years we go to the Western States conference. There was a volleyball tournament going on so there were a lot of people. I was given instructions, by Lynn, to get a table by 12:30 so we could have lunch and she could get back to the classes. I got there 15 minutes after it opened and was told I couldn't have that time, but, 12:15 was open so I took it. They took my phone number and told me if I was 15 min. late I would lose my reservation. 12:10 I am waiting outside the restaurant waiting for the call. Nothing happens. I wait and wait, it's now 20 after nothing happens. I go up to the stand and wait while the maitre d was seating people, who got in that line while I was waiting. 12:25 I asked what was going on. I was told I was supposed to get in line. I did not get ugly! I did express my displeasure with A) not being told I had to wait in line, even though I made a reservation and B) not being told that even though they took my phone number, unlike every other restaurant that has done that, they weren't going to call me. What The Heck! When I expressed my displeasure they took me downstairs and put me in the corner by the window. It was so cold you could see your breath. I thought I was going to get frostbite. The food was really good and the service was nice but it wasn't as much fun as I hoped for.
Birthday Party dinner
Birthday Party dinner. Ernesto and crew gave excellent attention. Great suggestions on meals. Portions were more than adequate and pricing was very good, especially compared to other Las Vegas Strip restaurants. Excellent value. We thought we would just have a nice Mexican dinner after a day at the Mandalay Bay Beach but this was so much more. Brisket Barbacoa was phenomenal, carnitas, fish tacos and carne asada quesadilla were equally good. Highly recommend eating here!
Looking for a good Sunday Brunch... SKIP the Border Grill
Huge disappointment... we had dined a coupld of years ago at the Border Grill at the Forum shops and had a nice lunch. We were very excited to be in Vegas on a Sunday to try the brunch at the Mandalay Bay Border Grill. This was a family reunion with five of us meeting in Vegas from different parts of the United States. We opted for the champagne add-on for our brunch " experience ". It was an experience... a bad experience. The mimosas tasted odd, likely because of the low quality sparkling that was used. The food lacked in all aspects and all five of us have different palates and each of us felt that the food was boring and underwhelming for each course. We realized that this was a small plate format brunch, but two small plates for five of us was messy and difficult to pass around. The server insisted that she only bring one type of food for each delivery which seemed odd, but we went along with this. The wait between dishes was too long and with only two small plates to try between servings we decided after a few selections to cut our losses and move on with our day.
Modern Mexican with unique food
Nice setup, in the south part of Mandalay Bay. Service was very good and attentive. Food was outstanding, I had the Ceviche and it was served on a bed of avocado with fresh fish and ingredients. I also had the vegetarian tacos with cilantro tortillas, they were crunchy, full of flavor. Salsas are also very good and spicy. Being Mexican myself it was a nice surprise.
Good food, friendly crowd
Friday evening reservation at 6:00. Place closes at 7:00 due to COVID restrictions. Not many people there as 25% capacity limit in place, but those who were there were in a good mood. Had the guacomole starter with generou serving of guac chips, and three tangy sauces. The dark, smoky one was the best. Wife had the fish tacos, I had carne asad quesadilla. Both were very good, plenty of food and, of course, more guacamole. Dessert was churros with a small serving of ice cream and some fruit. Complementary since it was her birthday. Rolando was our server, took very good care of us.
Brunch was interesting but lacking
Throughout my life, I've been a fan of both Mexican cuisine and the fusion cuisines in Texas, the Southwest, and California. Before deciding to try their Sunday brunch, we checked out their menu online and all agreed that it was something we wanted to try. When we visited, it appeared that they were in the middle of a major remodeling of their primary entrance. Two rather confusing signs each ended up pointing us in the wrong direction. Out of frustration, we marched through their outdoor dining area and through what looked to be a service door. I know this isn't a permanent issue, but the lack of foresight and clear execution started the meal with a wary eye and concerns about the quality of the management. We were promptly seated without a reservation (noon on a Sunday) and all decided to have the endless small plate brunch they feature. The wait staff quickly took our order for our first plates, but never asked us about drinks. (We had to raise the subject when she came to see if we enjoyed our first plates.) Two of the drinks were from their " refreshers " area of the menu. One, a white peach lemonade, was so heavy handed on the lemon as to cause the adults that tried it to make a face. The other drink, a pomegranate limeade, tasted not at all of pomegranate (although the color was there) and only weakly of lime. The brunch service began with guava " empanadas " (puff pastry with a guava jam inside) and melon drizzled with honey, both to tide us over while the first plates were being prepared. We were offered no plates; while some at our table just tore into the empanadas (making a mess on the table with the puff pastry shards) the fruit had to sit-- large pieces dripping in honey, so that there was no way to sample without making a mess. The plates were OK-- the concept on the menu sounded much better than the execution in the kitchen that day could achieve. Three dishes were popular enough at our table that others ordered them in subsequent rounds. To our surprise, the elements and presentation were different each time it was delivered. One time the skirt steak and egg had potato shreds underneath, the next they had none, and the third time the potato was literally uncooked. The steak was overdone all three times, although they managed to get the egg correct on one of the three plates. The same story can be told about the short rib hash and egg-- one time, the dish came to the table as simply a dry lump of beef with an improperly cooked egg on top. None of the three times that dish hit our table did it have all of the elements mentioned in the menu, and none of the times did the beef come across as slow braised; it was dry and shredded, not succulent and falling apart. In general, the dishes lacked flavor as well. Biscuits and gravy that seemed little different than Carl Jr's offering. A Yucatan Egg Benedict that had so little pork and a heavily spiced cream sauce claiming to be a chipotle hollandaise (which tasted nothing of chipotle, more of tabasco). Even the syrup on the waffle had a strange grainy texture to it. At the end of the meal, no one felt shorted for what we paid, but at the same time no one was interested in coming back in the future. The restaurant seems to have been missing leadership in the kitchen-- no one at all was looking at what went over the pass to the dining room. The front of the house was no more than OK, but at this price point, I expect a whole lot more than just OK-- especially when the food is lacking. I left the restaurant understanding why it was never more than half full during our meal. What a shame.
Bottomless Mimosas!
Came here for brunch on our first full day in Vegas. Excellent tapas. My favorite was the chilaquiles and the pervuvian shrimp and grits. Those were the most decadent, creamiest grits I have ever eaten. We went through every mimosa flavor thanks to our amazing waiter Luis. Friendliest waiter I've ever met. The location in Mandalay Bay is much nicer than the one in the forum shops (the Mandalay Bay location overlooks the tropical pool area). Definitely worth the prince
Great place for bottomless Mimosas
We celebrated my birthday here. We had brunch and bottomless mimosas. There were several different juices, not just orange juice. Service was great even with 20 people in my party. Food was good as well. I ordered off the menu but those who ordered the brunch didn't have the typical fill your plate brunch, plates were ordered and brought to you. A great place for a large group
Business or Pleasure, why not both!
Border Grill at The Mandalay Bay was outstanding! I held a reception here for 50 people - Service was Exceptional! Food quality was fresh, handmade (not frozen appetizers), both tasty and creative! So good we had to go back for dinner another night! Kudos to the ladies behind Border Grill!
Great Private Party Venue
Every other year, we host a business related event at Border Grill. I am the primary contact for our company, and the staff at Border Grill make my job easy. Not only do they consistently offer service and food quality, but they also keep excellent records from year to year that help plan each event. They are able to tell me to the piece which items are popular and which are not, so ordering is more efficient. For a private event, I cannot recommend them highly enough.
Great place for lunch
We had lunch here on a Sunday afternoon before heading back to the airport that day. We hadn't planned on eating here and were just walking around several hotels and seeing the sights and thought it looked nice. We didn't have a reservation but they seated us right away. We sat outside close to the pool area and loved it! There was a nice breeze and it wasn't too hot for us at all. The food was very good. I had the Chipolte Chicken Quesadilla and my husband had the Short Rib Enchiladas. The fresh chips and three choices of salsa were also great! Of all the overwhelming choices walking around, we were really happy and glad we chose to stop at this one. Very friendly and prompt service as well. Our waiter was originally from Nashville (which is less than 2 hours from where we live) and he was awesome and we felt at home!
Service, Food and Atmosphere A++
Really enjoyed dinner at Boarder Grill. We were seated (at our request) at an inside table. We hadn't read many reviews so we asked Marlon, our server, what was popular and / or his favorites. His suggestions included the skirt steak and poblano enchiladas. We ordered both along with plantain empanadas and Tangaritas. It was all excellent. Well worth it!
Never seen worse service
I eat out at least 400 times per year, fine dining at least 50. Today I experienced the very worst service ever. Border Grill features good food. I've eaten here many times. It is genuinely better than most similar places, California Avocados rather than the cheaper Hass for instance. Today I called down about s table. This alone was a frustrating process. Hung up on twice, put on hold, never ending auto attendant. When I got a human I Was told no problem plenty of room, no need for a reservation. When I got downstairs it was a twenty minute wait. A mess. I complained, was seated with free Guacamole and a manager falling all over himself apologizing. Guacamole was great. We opted for the $38.95 brunch. They would bring small plates as you ordered. All you can eat. The menu was short on protein but sounded really good. I ordered the steak and egg and pork croissant, my date a seafood ceviche and Latin Benedict. You are supposed to be able to keep ordering more courses. When we left 50 minutes later we had eaten nothing but the Guacamole. In nearly an hour they couldn't deliver one course. I have had service issues, not this bad, at Border Grill before. They will never get another chance. Stay away unless you want to spend your entire weekend on a single meal.
Outdoor Lunch to Relax
Don't really need an alcoholic drink at lunch, but why not have a margarita with the best turkey tostada I have ever had. Good service, fresh ingredients and eating outside in a sheltered area from sun and wind makes for a pleasant afternoon before you hit the tables and entertainment.
Gutes Restaurant
Good food
Had lunch here, JULY, 04. Chose to sit downstairs poolside. Great nachos and salsas instead of bread. I had empanadas and hubby had beef in soft shell tacos. Both wonderful, gourmet mexican. About 23 dollars without alcohol for lunch for 2. Bar made up its own gingerale, I have never tasted ginger ale that good, you could actually taste the fresh ginger. Just awesome. Highly recommended if you like mexican food or are just adventurous.
Great Snack!
I was s little tired after traveling all day, so I stopped her for a quick snack. I got the guacamole and they also brought their three salsa varieties. Everything was good and the chipotle salsa was the fantastic. The best part was the blood orange margarita. There were jalapeños in it, with a mole rim. I will go back!
Ok
Food was okay. Some people like dressed up Mexican food but I don't. Wasn't exactly what I expected.
Unique Twist On Mexican Fare
On our most recent trip to Las Vegas, my husband and I decided to try a couple of new restaurants. We're big fans od Mexican cuisine and, after reading lots of info, we decided on the Border Grill. Even though we had made reservations, we walked right in without giving a name or confirmation number. This was surprising, given the reviews and hard sell of making advance reservations. Of course, it was on a Thursday... would probably be different on the weekend. We were able to eat out on the patio... nice, but honestly I was expecting more of a " view " (it overlooked the pool area--cabanas, pool chairs--eh, nothing overly impressive) and a bit more " ambience ". Can I have a little color and a candle maybe? Jason G, our server, was very efficient and explained the menu thoroughly, helping us make decisions. We tried the ceviche trio; my husband had the mole verde chicken (drowned in julienne carrots and greens) and I had the stuffed poblano pepper. We both had margaritas---absolutely NOT worth the money. The food, while tasty and somewhat " unique ", was not the " to-die-for " experience I was expecting. Yes, it was a nice, leisurely dining experience overall, our server was excellent, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. No, it's not perfect but it is worth a second look. Will try ordering something different next time, perhaps ask for an extra shot in our margaritas...
Anniversary Dinner
My wife and I were being seated and the hostess asked what brought us to Border Grill. We told her it was our 40th anniversary. After being seated, Tara introduced herself and congratulated us on our anniversary. She went way above and beyond to make our dinner special. I had the Yucatan Pork, very tender and juicy. I thought it would be spicier than it was but i enjoyed it. My wife had the chicken tacos which she enjoyed. It is not the texmex we are used to but we really enjoyed our visit.
