Echt een fantastische rit met veel uitleg en inhoudelijke kennis van Stuart! Onwijs knap hoe je onder deze omstandigheden de auto zo rustig en veilig naar boven kan rijden. Daarnaast vinden wij de verhalen heel interessant en was er onderweg veel te zien en te weten te komen over de natuur, de dieren en de cultuur!
Stuart, an exceptional bird guide
We agree with the previous reviews. Stuart is an exceptional guide. His keen knowledge of where and how to find all of the bird species in his area is remarkable. Thank you Stuart for richly enhancing our experience of the Southern Drakensburg, and in heavy rain and thick mist! We look forward to our next trip with you.
Sani pass tour
Stuart McClean has a keen eye for the fauna and flora of the region, making the hills, rocks and cliffs come alive with creatures one would normally miss. An extremely cautious driver he navigates the treacherous untarred parts of the pass with confidence, while regaling interesting historical facts and anecdotes. Definitely Recommended if you prefer a private tour.

N'ayant pu louer un 4x4, et tenant absolument à voir les paysages somptueux du Drakkensberg depuis le Sani Pass, nous nous sommes résolus à faire une visite guidée avec Stuart McLean, un des meilleurs, sinon le meilleur guide de la région. Bien nous en a pris car nous avons passé une journée extraordinaire! Paysages somptueux, route ou plutôt piste de ouf, dans un 4x4 confortable, avec ce chauffeur hors pair qui connaît la région comme sa poche. Patient, professionnel, courtois, sympathique, d'une grande culture, il a tout pour plaire! Il a su nous renseigner sur l'histoire, la culture, la géologie, la faune et la flore de cet admirable Drakkensberg. Avec lui, nous avons passé la frontière et visité un village du Lesotho, vu des troupeaux de chèvres angora, goûté la bière faite maison ainsi que ce délicieux pain brioché cuit à la cendre. Nous avons ensuite déjeuné au Pub le plus haut d'Afrique (ou presque), dont la cuisine nous a agréablement surpris. Bref, une journée parfaite avec un guide parfait. Merci Stuart!

Stunning Sani Scenery (landscape and birds) with Great Guiding
Stuart and Elder of Birds and Beyond are amazing guides for this region. Their driving skills on Sani Pass are superb and their spotting skills for flora and fauna are exceptional. Friendly and knowledgeable, this outing was a highlight of our trip.
Amazing day on the Sani Pass and Attention all birders!
Hats off to Stu McLean for his adroit handling of the pass when the road had been badly chewed by pouring rain and construction work. Stu was our bird guide and he ranks with the best we have ever had the pleasure to hire. His knowledge of the bird life, the fauna, the flora and the area's history made for a wonderful day. He has an eagle's eye and spotted scampering mongoose as well as eland on a faraway slope, fixing them in his scope. Of course the Drakensberg views were spectacular and the sightings of several endemics (Drakensberg Rockjumper, Bearded vultures, etc) were very special. Next time we'll get Stu to take us hiking to view more Sani rock art and more birds. We were in SA for a wonderful and busy month (first visit) and the day with Stu was a true highlight.
Highlight of our South Africa trip
My wife and I spent a day with Stuart as part of a two week birding trip in South Africa on his tour up Sani Pass and into Lesotho. Stuart is very knowledgable about the birds as well as the natural and cultural history of the area. He was also a very thoughtful and considerate host: 10 new lifer birds by breakfast in the Drakensberge with fresh hot coffee was great. His vehicle is not new, but that made it even more fun. It was comfortable and is well suited to the very rough road. The pass and traveling into the completely different world of Lesotho will be a life long memory.
Birding up Sani Pass
We did the one day trip up Sani Pass with Stuart. I had expectations that were surpassed on every level by some way. We were not expecting to see the +-100 birds that we did see. Stuart REALLY knows his stuff and I would strongly recommend him for this kind of an outing. Was blown away. Will do this again!!!
