Great stay and Toubkal hike

Stayed one night at Rachid's Riad in a spacious family room for four, enjoying delicious tea, dinner, and breakfast (from the terrace with great views!) before we hiked to Toubkal and back over two days. Our guide, Ibrahim, was amazing; enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and ensured we had meals and tea at every stop. He even pushed us to be the first to summit! Definitely the best part of our trip to Morocco. Rachid's team also stored our belongings while we hiked and had a taxi ready for us when we returned. Everything was smooth and well-organized. Highly recommend!

6 days tour: Toubkal summit and Merzouga trip ending in Fes

My friend and I went on a six-day trip, and it was amazing! Before the journey, Rachid was available to answer all our questions and adjusted the tour to meet our needs (ending in Fes instead of Marrakech). Communication with him was easy and quick. Ibrahim, our guide in the Atlas, took great care of us and expertly led us to the Toubkal summit. The hike was challenging, and he always checked to make sure we were okay. He is a very funny guy with an unlimited amount of energy, and we had a great time with him. Abdul, our driver for the rest of the trip, took us to beautiful villages, kasbahs, and valleys. He is an expert driver and always made sure we were comfortable. The highlight was in the Merzouga desert: after the camel ride, we spent the night singing and dancing around the fire with the other staff there. Additionally, we went sandboarding in the moonlight… it was amazing!

Amazing experience!

We booked the 5-day Toubkal and Desert tour and we are extremely happy and satisfied. The 2-day trekking to climb Toubkal is intense and requires being physically fit. Our mountain guide, Ibrahim, took great care of us, always sharing stories and positive energy. I can definitely recommend him. The following 3 days involve a lot of hours in a car, driving around Morocco (it's a huge country!) but it's totally worth it. You'll stop to visit interesting spots and local cooperatives, and you will never forget the night in the desert. Our driver, Abdul, was very nice and caring, totally recommended. All in all, it was an excellent experience and we are super happy we booked with them!

Great climb / great experience

I started by climbing Mt. Toubkal with AMG's guide, Ibrahim, who was fantastic. He said he had climbed the peak at least 300 times and the experience showed. He seemed to know every rock along the way. He made sure I was safe the entire climb and descent. Much appreciated. Once down from the mountain, I joined Yasif who drove me out to the Sahara Desert for three days / two nights. His only goal was to make sure I was taken care of and that I was happy. For the second night, I did the two-hour camel ride to a camp in the dunes and I highly recommend it. A great experience. Overall, I would recommend AMG to anyone wanting a great adventure, either in the Atlas Mountains or the desert, or both.

Best by test!

Honestly we couldn't have asked for a better guide. He was very helpful, answered every question we had and prepared us for the hike to the summit. During the whole hike he kept us motivated and cheered us up when we needed it, also the speed chosen by him was just right for our level of fitness.

Winter attempt to summit Mt Toubkal

Rachid was very helpful and responsive to my online inquiry and followup emails, and he was able to arrange a 2-day trip to Mt Toubkal at short notice. Rachid organized everything, including a ride to and from Marrakesh, gear rental (only crampons in my case), all food, accommodation at the CAFC refuge and afterwards at the Panorama guest house, which he owns and which is very nice - clean and comfortable, with nice décor and panoramic views as claimed. The logistics worked smoothly, and food throughout the trip was great, including at the refuge (provided you like tagine!). The refuge itself was also clean and comfortable. My guide Ibrahim was very good - friendly and knowledgeable (he has been guiding for seven years), and careful about safety. I went in February, just after the first heavy snowfall of the year, and the snowline at that time was just below the refuge. On day 2 we set out from the refuge toward the summit, but Ibrahim judged that it was not safe to continue given the combination of hard-packed icy snow, risk of rockfalls, and high winds on the exposed summit ridge, so we had to turn back. Even though I had crampons, a slip in those conditions could easily lead to a long slide ending in serious injury or death, so it was a good call, and other groups made the same decision (although an experienced mountaineer with ice ax and self-arrest skills might have decided differently). Even without reaching the summit, it was a spectacular trek - great views all the way! In summer I imagine it would be much easier, and strong hikers frequently do it in 2 days from Imlil. Two tips: Anyone arriving directly from sea level might want to allow a day in Imlil to acclimate to the altitude - several people at the refuge had mild headaches, and at least one person threw up with altitude sickness. Also, US visitors might want to bring a power adaptor - the Panorama guest house can lend some types of adaptors but did not have one for US plugs. With Ibrahim I also got to see some of the small villages around Imlil. There is still a lot of visible damage from the earthquake in Sept 2023, although fortunately tourism seems to have recovered, and provides an essential source of income for these small rural communities as they work to rebuild. Overall, a great experience!

5 day high atlas and desert trek - what a treat!

My husband and I did a private tour consisting of 2 days of trekking in high atlas and 3 days driving through the desert. The whole experience was amazing and felt authentic as compared to travelling with a tour bus company. The tour was very well organised and hassle-free. Our guides, Ibrahim and Rachid, were wonderful - very considerate, helpful and friendly. Rachid, the tour organiser was also highly accommodating and arranged for us to be dropped off in Fez after the trip as we wanted to see the old Imperial city. All the hotel / camp stays and food was excellent throughout. Morocco is a huge country and it would have been impossible to have covered so much ground on our own. I would highly recommend anyone looking to experience either / both the desert and mountains to contact Rachid

Fun and Peaceful trekking adventure

What an awesome experience! I was traveling a bit spontaneously and they provided everything for me. I did a 4 day trekking adventure with a Toubkal climb. The guides were great, the food was wonderful and overall it was the highlight of my trip to Morocco. Also, Rashid has a really nice homestay in Imlil. I ended up staying there for a couple extra nights to rest after the climb and enjoy the peaceful scene there in the Atlas mountains. 10 / 10 would go again.

Imlil to Toubkal - tailored private group trek

If you and a group of friends want a truly hassle free way to explore the best of Atlas Mountains I recommend getting in touch with Rachid. He can design an experience tailored just for you. Including the flexibility to provide you with options / alternatives depending how the group is feeling. We mixed up our 3-day trek with doing our own thing either side in Marrakesh (an amazingly cultural place itself). Rachid sorted out our airport transfers, as well as getting us to and from Imlil, which I definitely recommend if you're not versed in the art of Morocco bartering. Add to the experience fantastic food, friendly conversation and learning about some of the local history of the area. Then this was without a doubt one of the very best experiences of my life.

Fantastic trekking to Mt Toubkal

We have had a two fantastic days trekking to the Toubkal. Thanks a lot to Rachid and his team and colleagues who all took care of us. Rachid arranged all things that help us to do the trek from Imlil to the summit of Toubkal with the best meals, explanation about their lifes and culture, and arranging as well transfers from and to Marrakesh and accomodation in their Riad very comfortable and beautiful and with very nice views. Thanks a lot Rachid!!

Phil - Toubkal+

Many thanks to Rachid and his colleagues Mohammed and Ibrahim. Rachid was my guide for 5 days in the Atlas Mountains including Toubkal and organised everything including transport, accommodation, meals etc with clear communications before the trip. He is very trustworthy and knowledgeable with excellent English language skills. It was also apparent that he is well respected within the mountain guiding community. Great trip although it was a shame there was no snow. Cheers Rachid

5 day Mt Toubkal and Merzouga desert guided tour

We had a brilliant time on our 5 day tour of the Atlas Mountains and Merzouga desert. Rachid A communicated extensively with us before the trip to make sure we were clear on the arrangements and was happy to answer the many questions we threw at him! The tour itself was fantastic. Rachid guided us all the way up to the summit of Mt Toubkal, arranged food and accommodation and told us about the mountains - all we had to do is drag ourselves up! After our Toubkal trip was over, a second tour guide (also conveniently named Rachid!) picked us up in a sturdy, comfortable 4x4 to guide us on the rest of the trip. The second Rachid was fantastic - he was really informative, we had a good laugh with him and guided us brilliantly through the beautiful Berber Villages, gorges and the Merzouga desert.

One day bike ride Atlas mountains

We had a fun and challenging bike ride of around 38 km through the Atlas mountains with our guide Rachid. Transportation was well-organized, the bikes were in very good condition, the tour itself was beautiful. We went through villages and mountains with stops for tea and a traditional lunch. Rachid even took GoPro videos of us. We are highly satisfied and gladly recommend the tour.

Abdo was simply excellent

A wonderful experience and we had an excellent guide in Abdo. He was experienced, friendly, professional and just delightful. Not only excellent English but Arabic and Berber too; communication was never going to be an issue. A huge thank you to him.

4 day trek with mules

4 day trek with 4 mules for a group of 8, mainly over 70s. Averaging around 8 miles per day. The efficiency of our guide and muleteers in guiding us and providing all our (excellent) meals. Wonderful scenery and by the end a feeling we were all 'family'

Best local guide with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the High Atlas

Rachid Aztat is the best choice for anyone looking to explore the High Atlas Mountains. Rachid is an internationally qualified mountain guide who knows the area like the back of his hand. He pays attention to detail and goes above and beyond to make his tour groups feel welcome, safe and looked after both on and off the mountain. Rachid also owns a guest house called Riad Atlas Panorama, it has incredible views and is a great place to stay during your trek. Imlil Valley is not short on breathtaking views and culture, it's a peaceful place with lots of treks and mountain climbs available. Atlas Mountains Guide / Rachid Aztat is in my opinion the only guide for anyone looking for an adventure in High Atlas / Morocco. This was my third time to summit Toubkal and my second time with Rachid and I forward to more adventures with him and his team in the future.

Three days Mountain Bikes trip

Excellent! Rachid arranged for us 3 days mountain biking trip. We biked with the other Rachid. Both of them will do everything to help. They arranged the bikes (carbon!), the guide (the other Rachid), the transportation, accommodation and food. You just rode the bikes and enjoyed the surroundings. Rachid made sure we eat at local Berber houses to create more authentic atmosphere. Overall - excellent experience !

Great local guide

I was part of a group of 10 friends who traveled Morocco and spent quite a significant part of our time with Rachid. He was very attentive and flexible and willing to accommodate all our needs. He managed a lot of the logistics such as transportation and planning our itinerary. The trek in Imlil was beautiful and we reached remote areas that we wouldn't have got to without his expertise. I would definitely recommend using Rachid if you plan on exploring Morocco.

Gerne wieder!

Amazing 3 day valley trek around Imlil

Rachid was great and put together a private 3 day valley trek for me. Transportation from Marrakech to Imlil and back to the airport after was organized for me and everything was seamless. My guide Abdo and our chef Hassan were amazing. Couldn't have asked for a better time. Thanks for a really memorable trip!

2019-12-04 13:47:40

You have to do this!

We were on a three day tour in the atlas mountains and had a really amazing time. The booking and organisations was quite easy. Hassan came to us and explained the different tours, while having a nice cup of tea. The next day the tour started in the morning with the best tourguide on earth Mohammed, the amazing cook Hassan and our strong and beautiful mule girl Sonja. If you this team you can be lucky. Mohammed is a very experienced and heartwarming person and of course he's making a lot of jokes. So it was never boring. The tour can be quite hard, but if you take your time you can do it. There are mules which you can book to carry your stuff. But come on, if you're not strong enough to carry your bagback better stay at home. Compare you Marrakech the mules have a good life, but still, it's important to not overload them and take care if the people treat them good. All in all it was nice journey and we can totally recommend Hassan and his guides. He is a really reliable and hospitality person. We will never forget out time in the mountains. Thank you so much for everything

A Long Walk- Worth It

My husband and I did this tour with Hassam who was a great guide. He told us a lot about the area in which we were walking and really seemed to care about it a great deal. The walk is a bit challenging- and Hassam was very considerate. At the end we had an amazing view and enjoyed the most delicious lunch.

Don't miss out on this opportunity

We made it to the waterfalls! This hike up the mountain is not for the weak, it takes determination to get to the top but it is well worth it. The views are stunning and the waterfalls are refreshing. There is even a little bar at the top to quench your thirst.

Highly recommend this day tour! It's a must see if visiting Marrakech!

1 / 2 Day Atlas Mountain

The Driver Ridwan came early to pick us in front of our hotel. Good car, Good English speaking & well-informed driver. Stop-by at scenic spots to take Fotos. First Stop - An Educational 1 / 2hr visit to the Women's corporation for Argan products. Argan Tree is only grown in the Western part if Morocco. This organisation was setup to create jobs for the Ladies of the Village. 2nd Stop - Setti Fatima, The Last Village at Atlas Mountain. Guide Rachid took us to climb the mountain to the WaterFall. He carefully assist each of us climbing up & down the treacherous, slippery uneven rocky downstream mountain for the next 2hrs. There are souvenir shops selling local products. The view is phenomenal once we reached the highest point of the waterfall. Stop to deep my hands into the stream and splash onto my face. Immediately, I could Feel the Freshness & Purity of the water. Climbing down was more difficult but interesting. Once arrived at Foot of the Hill, we were served with Moroccon Mint Tea. Then we enjoyed the scenic route of 1 / 2 hr drive back to Marakech.

Day trip from Marrakech to the High Atlas Mountains

My wife and I took a trip from Marrakech to Mount Toubkal the highest mountain in Africa after Kilimanjaro. We went with a company called Let's Go 2 Morocco and had arranged a number of tours with them before we left Ireland. Karima who runs the company is British but had lived for over 20 years in Ireland. She now lives in a remote village in the High Atlas for the last number of years and is very well acquainted with the culture and the terrain. She hires local guides who really know their way around and are trusted members of their own communities. Karima arranged for a car to pick us up at our hotel in Marrakech and we were driven the 60 or so kilometers to the village of Imlil which is the entrance to the valley leading to Mt Toukbal. We were then introduced to our guide, Rashid, whose family are one of the longest inhabitants of this area. Rashid was very experienced as a guide. He has climbed Toukbal many many times and knows the entire region very well. He is very conscious of people's safety, speaks excellent English and is unfailingly polite while having a great deal of charm and a good sense of humor. We are reasonably fit but are not big walkers. The trails Rashid brought us on were of a very manageable gradient. We walked for 2 hours through fantastic orchards of almonds, pear, apple, oranges, lemon, quince, past the rivers of snow melt from Toukbal rushing past in small waterfalls and climbed to the village of Tamatert. From there we were taken to the highest point in the valley by car in order to show us the adjoining valley and to catch a glimpse of the Atlas range as it stretches on across the Maghreb. It was a day of pure magic, memorable and unforgettable. Thanks to Rachid for sharing your countryside with us in such a welcoming way.

Atlas Mountain Trek including Mount Toubkal Summit

What an amazing adventure! One of my friends booked a four day trek through the High Atlas including the summit of Mount Toubkal (4162m). Everything was perfect and exceeded what was expected from the level of professionalism to the standard of the food. The trek itself was set in the stunning valleys surrounding Imil and took us up the lucious green valleys up to the snow line and refuge at the base of Mount Toubkal. The guide had everything under control and ensured that all members of the group were safe during our trek. Accomodation was great at all our stops and we always felt well looked after. I would be happy to use Rashid again and will definitely recommend this tour operator to friends / family. Thanks again for an awesome experience.

On the way we were taken to a Berber house and showed the traditional Berbers making Argon oil, all very good for the price!

Atlas Mountains Hike

Our first time in Morocco and we wanted to spend some time in the Atlas Mountains and learn something of Berber culture and history. Had a wonderful three hour walk around the villages above Imlil at an altitude of about 1800 metres. Our guide was Mohamed Imerhane, and he came with a helper and a good-natured and well-cared-for mule named Katerina. Mohamed is an experienced desert and mountain guide, and very knowledgeable about Berber history and culture, as well as the economy and geology of the area. At that altitude it is of course a bit more than a stroll, but the pace can vary, and Katerina was there if needed. (She wasn't, so she just had a nice walk with us.) The walk ended with a fine example of Berber hospitality, a magnificent lunch (more than we could eat) on a terrace in the winter sun looking out over the valley we had just walked around. Our holiday was organised through Fleewinter who also organised all taxis - to and from airport, and Essaouira to Marrakech, as well as for our day in the mountains. Everything worked just as promised.

Abdou Amlal makes the Atlas Mountains come alive

Don't mistake the Atlas Mountains as just a day trip from Marrakech. It holds it own with its own beautiful landscape, the hospitality of its people and its own Berber values. It actually deserves more than one day and we would have loved to spent more time in the valley. Abdou made this come alive for us by inviting us for mint tea to his home, we felt right at home meeting his friends and family. We can highly recommend Abdou as your travel guide

Toubkal Experience

Highly recommended experience: Rachid, Hassan and Ibrahim are great mountain experts. Delicious food. All equipment provided. Comfortable accomodation. I shall start by saying that I couldn't manage to do this trip on my own, or if I would have tried, I would encounter many challenges on the way. So I am most grateful to Rachid and the guides team, Hassan, Ibrahim and all the ones who contributed for a fantastic journey. They are trully bonded to these mountains and their confidence is spread along the group, creating a very positive feeling. I was impressed by how everything was so organized and asked myself many times how could they manage, with a small team and a few mules, to provide all the necessary conditions for everyone to make the best of this experience. The meals were deliciously prepared, even at thousands of meters high, all the equipment was fairly provided and nothing at any time was missing. It was indeed a tough journey, more than I expected, but the support of the team and the group made it happen. We reached the summit, even while other groups were giving up because of the strong wind, and we happened to be the first ones who made it that day. It was definitely worth it, and the incredible views spoke for themselves. The way back to the refuge was much easier while everyone was happily hopping from the cheer satisfaction of having reached the top. Back at the refuge we were regularly provided with tea, and can't skip mentioning the popcorn and cookies :) Finally, on the third day we made our way back to the village. The weather was getting better and better, as to reward us. It was, of course, much easier to go down, and we reached the village by lunch time, where we gathered all together for a last meal and tea. Again, I'd like to mention the support and knowledge of the guides, their care and the support throughout the whole journey.

Great day-trip to Imlil Valley

We only had one day to spend in the mountains but Rachid was able to put together a fantastic hike through the picturesque Imlil valley. This was a light to moderate Jaime that practically anyone visiting Marrakech should consider. It was great getting out of the noise and bustle of the souks and into nature. Highly recommended! Oh and the best part of all was the lunch that Rachid's wife prepared for us- my best meal in a week!!

Best day ever !!!

My friend and I were recommended this particular trip with the boss Ahmad Amzil. It was such an amazing day, we travelled in the car to the mountains and stopped first at the local berbian market, we then trekked into the local village. We had a tour guide called 'Said' who had perfect English and told us lots of information. He took us to his home and we were able to take in the amazing views. It's a great experience and then had lunch which was beautiful and a camel ride. Best part of my whole trip to Marrakesh and would highly recommend!

Great Day Trip to Atlas Mountains!

Our experience on the day trip to the Atlas Mountains with Art de Cuivre Travel, with guide Kareem, was fantastic. Kareem grew up and still lives in the Berber village where we had lunch, so he was open and knowledgeable about the history of the country, it's people, and the Berber traditions in particular. His English is excellent, so we had no trouble understanding his commentary. We enjoyed the drive outside of Marrakesh and surrounding towns up into the Mountains, the hike to the water falls, and lunch at the Berber Village immensely. The stop at the women's collective was a bit touristy, but I am appreciative of their effort to support this work opportunity for women who need to support themselves.

Atlas Mountaineering and Berberic Culture

While in Marrakech, if you are a green-panther, I recommend a trip of Atlas Mountains. I, with my wife, planned holiday in Marrakech. And since the day of booking, I was looking for a trip to Atlas. As they say - Mountains are calling, and one must go, and listened to them😉.. I booked a single day trip to Atlas (as my wife didn't want it to be long). And it all started from 0900hrs, our driver Karim and our guide Issmail picked us from hotel. They explained us the plan for the day and enquired if we wanted any changes, we sticked to what they had planned as we felt it was fine. At first we visited the market, all the sellers were from Mountains who came once a week to this area. We were their in this market for about 10mins. Here I realized how life could be different then we live these days. It took me back to school days where we learnt how life was then without modern amenities. Passing the market, the beautiful scenic view of the mountains started, cam was out to capture each moment. On the way to mountains we made a stop at argon oil workshop where traditional berberic women were making oil from the seeds. Here we had berberic tea with bread and argon-almond Nutella. Further up, we made a halt for camel ride. Here we met a couple from Austria and enjoyed the ride for about 20mins. Each view was picturesque. We headed towards the top, on the way our guide was explaining us the berberic tradtion and culture. I had loads of question and he loved answering them all. We started walk from Imlil village (again we met friends from Austria, to whom with we had a camel ride) to high Atlas Mountains we walked for about two and half hours. And trust me each moment was memorable.. waterfalls, mule rider's, berberic tradtion, sunshine, soothing fresh air, sound of flowing river, nature's beauty was all an awesome experience. I am falling for short of words on this. Was a great experience. On the way back we had berberic food - fish-rice, tajine and fresh fruits. While traveling back to hotel, we saw cherry farms, our guide Issmail got some us some from the farms.. by far they were the best cherries I had so far. He also taught us few words berberic, which we used untill we stayed. In all, it was a great experience.

High Atlas Mountains and 4 Valleys Day Trip from Marrakech

A wonderful day trip with an excellent guide, Abdul. No hard sell just a real Berber market for real Berber people. Magnificent scenery and great food. Take or wear walking shoes if you want to do the short mountain walk. Take your camera and the people and the scenery are well worth it.

Atlas Mountains with Habti voyages 159 Mohammed v

We had a marvellous trip to the Atlas Mountains with habti voyages! They picked us up from our hotel on time and all went smoothly. We were introduced to a guide who took us for a hike up the waterfall. We visited a Berber home and watched the local Berber women weaving and baking. Our driver Khalid was friendly and informative.

2 day trip to Toukbal

We had originally emailed Rachid for a quote whilst in the UK. He quoted us €50pp for a 2 day hike (for 3 persons) to the summit with a guide & mule accommodation at the refuge, crampons, all meals & pickup / drop-off from the airport or city. Having done some reading on forums we decided to find a guide ourselves upon arrival to Imlil. By sheer coincide we bumped into Rachid in Imlil & he appeared to offer the best package (cheaper than the online quote). He arranged for local guide & mile to take us to the refuge where we met him on arrival (he himself had taken a group up a few hours earlier). At the refuge he worked with us to plan our for our hike to the summit. Our Berber guide Mohammed was excellent and safely got 2 / 3 up & down to the summit (one of my friends unable to summit due to health reasons). Rachid then as agreed; had organised a mule to take out bags down to Imlil & a taxi back. In summary, Rachid appears to be very professional & thus I have no hesitation in recommending Altas Trek shop

Trek to Mount Toubkal Summit

We decided to trek the Atlas Mountains a week after my partner had ran the Marathon Des Sables. We travelled from Marrakesh to Imlil to meet Rashid our guide and Mohammed our chef for the three day trek. Donkey by our side he carried all our baggage and food. I can't thank Rashid and Mohammed enough. Rashid stayed with us at a steady pace throughout. We stayed at the Toubkal Refuge overnight before the summit of Toubkal the next day. The Refuge was obviously busy as other groups were staying there so sleep was a little limited as we had to share a dorm with others. Food was plentiful and water supply was unlimited. On the approach down we stayed in a Riad overnight. This was clean and comfortable, so we all had a very good nights rest. Rashid was knowledgable and friendly, joining in with our friendly banter as his English was very good. If you are considering a guided tour of the Atlas Mountains or wanting to summit Toubkal then I would definitely recommend this tour. Thanks Rashid and Mohammed for making it a pleasant and memorable trip! X

Berber villages and Toubkal

The Atlas mountains are different to being in European mountains. Buying food and accommodation can be difficult. Being pestered by people not knowing who to trust can be painful. On this occasion we had the wonderful organisation of atlasmountainguides. They organised everything and it ran like clockwork. Rachid himself came with us and Mohammed was our Mulateer and cook. Absolutely first class, a wonderful team and experience. We will be back with them !

Coach tour to the mountains

We booked a coach tour via our hotel and made numerous stops before we arrived at the mountains. We visited an argon oil plant, a village where the villagers actually grind the argon nuts to make the oil, we had lunch in a lovely restaurant just on the edge of the road leading to the mountain. We then ventured up the mountains with a guide and saw villages settled everywhere within the mountain range. Take sensible shoes if you're gonna do the same as it can be very slippery. Thoroughly recommend a guided tour, rather than going on your own.

Great views

This is a super region to visit with spectacular views in some places. Plenty of little towns and shops around. You are plagued by street sellers.

Fantastic 2 day visit to the mountains

My friend and I called up last minute to find a guide for the Atlas Mountains - Rachid was excellent. Spoke great English and French and suggest an itinerary for us for a short two day trip. We visited a souk, enjoyed a walk in the mountains visiting the local Berber villages, stayed in a lovely guest house with fantastic views and the following day had a spectacular long hike with picnic in the mountains. We were very well looked after - everything was taken care of. Highly recommended.

Brilliant trekking experience in the High Atlas

We had a superbly organised trek, up and down Toubkal then a further 3 days in the valleys around Imlil. The views of the mountains and villages in March are breathtaking. Our guide Rachid was the perfect guide. Knowledgeable, friendly & helpful. We will definitely use him again for our next expedition in early 2019.

Fantastiska Atlasbergen i fantastiska Marocko

Mount Toubkal 2d1n

Rachid was extremely caring and he was a good pacer (: Despite fasting, he was patient with me. As a solo traveler, he was very accommodating, giving me the freedom I wanted. He responses very quickly over email and is reliable. The climb was not too difficult, though the descent was a little tricky, but Rachid knows the easiest way up and down. Would definitely recommend!

Beautiful views, great memories

Me and my friend booked the circle of the Toubkal, a three day hike through the Atlas Mountains, with the top of the Toubkal as a highlight. We departed in the very authentic mountain village Imlil with our guide Rachid Aztat. The hike is physically challenging, but the views are absolutely magnificent. It was the first time for us to hike on this altitude, but our guide was very good in guiding us through. The food they cooked during our stay was delicious. We had a great time, and now great memories;).

Incredible 4 day hike to Mt Toubkal!

I seriously couldn't recommend Rachid more. I went on a 4 day hike through the Atlas Mountains, with three of my friends -all girls! We went via various Berber villages, and concluded with summitting Mt Toubkal (4167m). Rachid and his team were 100% genuine, friendly and experienced. They were willing to answer many questions, from hiking and landscape to culture and history based. They also had a great sense of humour which we really enjoyed. We really didn't see any other tourists until the third day when we arrived at the Toubkal refuges. All accommodation was excellent for hiking standards, in my opinion! Food was delicious! If you are climbing Toubkal I would suggest doing a few extra days, instead of doing the direct up and down the same route which most people seem to do. However, Rachid would also be excellent to take on day hikes or other routes! Prices are definitely reasonable too - as there is no outside companies getting commission. We definitely had a trip full of memorable experiences all thanks to Rachid and his team.

Tremendous guide who knows this region so well!

I spent the day on a walking tour of the towns at the base of the Atlas Mountains. My guide, Rachid, lives in this valley and is very knowledgeable about all aspects of the area. The scenery is amazing, and the stop for tea, and later lunch were hi-lights of my trip. I hope to get back some day, and do the climb to the top of Toubkal with Rachid. If you are going to Marrakech, definitely use Rachid and Atlas Mountains Guide for your tours!

Three days hiking was a pleasure with this great guide

Our family of four (two girls 9 and 6) spent 3 days on a circular walk from Imlil with Rachid Azdat. He is a great guide: genuine, knowledgable, proud of his Berber roots, always concerned for our safety, good at composing photographs (always handy for those family holiday snaps!) and best of all he was a huge hit with our kids - working tirelessly to humour them and motivate them to walk just that little bit further. I've no hesitation in recommending him to other families who also want a Moroccan adventure! Also, the walk we did with two mules, Rachid and two muleteers (who were funny, helpful and hardworking) from Imlil to Tizi Oussem, then Tinzert and back, was excellent! Pretty hard work even for two relatively fit adults, and the kids rode the mules for more than half the time, but the scenery is stunning, the remote villages are eye-opening, and the sense of achievement each day is well worth the effort.

Do not leave Marrakech without going!

A definite must see! A delightful day out to the waterfalls and to sit by the river drinking Morrocan tea. Thoroughly enjoyed this trip, it's cheaper by taxi, booked through the hotel.

Booked through Thompsons

Amazing day with fabulous food! The views were spectacular although our 4x4 driver didn't speak English so feel we may have missed out a little on info. But did have regular stops were the main guide gave us lots of details.

2014-05-27 09:32:44

Excellent tour

The Atlas mountains are truly breathtaking, the scenery is amazing on the way up the mountains, our tour was excellent, stopped off at a farmers house and had bread and the green and mint tea which was lovely. The restaurant we also stopped at had the most amazing views of the mountains, the food was good too.

Two days hiking trip

Me and my boyfriend wanted to go on an somewhat easy hiking trip, we're not passionate hikers but just wanted to see a bit of the atlas mountains. The guide was fantastic! Also, we had a cook, which cooked very well, and a mole with us. We could always choose the pace and decide wheter or not we'd like to make some extra roads. We stayed in a nice little place to sleep even with a private room. I truly loved the trip, five stars!

Local Marrakech Tours - Atlas mountains one-day trip

We've put this review here as we couldn't find an exact match for the tour company we used, which was Local Marrakech Tours (part of Isango). We booked this tour online just a week before going to Marrakech and wondered what to expect. We needn't have worried - when we arrived at the pick-up place, the guide and driver were already there to meet us, and the whole tour was fantastic. We only paid £42 each, which we felt was good value for a 9hr trip in a 4WD with our own guide and driver, covering 150km and a four-course lunch too! Rasheed spoke excellent English and was very informative. We were never rushed, and we had a wonderful experience drinking mint tea with a Berber family on the roof of their traditional house.

Excellent tour

My boyfriend and I truly loved this tour. The Atlas Mountains have amazing views and our tour representative booked through tompson rep was very informative. He stopped off at certain set points and explained about the Berbers and how they live. We then stopped off at a farmers house he welcomed all of us into his home gave is home made bread and drank mint green tea which was really lovely. The tour is very educational and makes you realise just how lucky we are within the uk. At the foot of the mountain we stopped for lunch within the next village. You often see hikers taking advantage of the facilities here before the trek to the top of the mountain peak. The food was lovely and we felt welcomed at all times, you can also see Richard bransons hotel up here where I'm sure is expensive to stay within the tranquil surroundings. The 4x4 jeeps where very comfortable and time went quickly on this enjoyable day. Take bottled water for journey and be click happy.

Amazing Berber village trek and Mt Toubkal!

I am just back from an amazing 4 day hike to the summit of Mt Toubkal with 3 of my friends! Our route took us through several Berber villages before continuing to the summit of Mt Toubkal (4167m) on the fourth day. Our guide Rachid was really friendly and was happy to chat to us throughout the trek, answering any questions we had related to the landscape, Berber life and culture. I really got to learn more about the local way of life as well as take in the stunning views! Rachid and his team provided us with tasty food and all the accommodation we had was excellent! We were lucky enough to stay in a room in a Berber home in one of the villages on the first night and then the second two nights were spent in local refuges which were perfect for us! I couldn't fault the experience we got on our trip as we were so well looked after. It was an experience I will never forget! I would highly recommend Rachid and his tour company for any treks in the atlas mountain area!

Rewarding 2 day Toubkal winter summit

Rachid was excellent from beginning to end. He coordinated the logistics, answered all of my many questions before the trip, and led us to the top of the tallest mountain in North Africa! We trekked in December, which is considerably more challenging than warmer months due to the snow, cold, and wind. Going up in 2 days in winter is not a walk in the park. I am in reasonably good shape, though do not do much cardio, and found it difficult on the second day. It would be helpful to do some cardio to prepare for the trek so as not to fall behind. Rachid was very experienced and encouraging. I enjoyed his company and his knowledge of the mountain was reassuring. The views along the way and at the peak, along with the accomplishment of summiting made this a memorable adventure. I highly recommend the services of Atlas Mountains Guide.

Beautiful experience

Scary, slippery but worth it. Climbed very high with our lovely guide Muktar. Mountains surround by a lovely village of 400 Berbers. We even went into a Berbers house, visited the family and were shown around. An overall amazing day out!!

2015-08-11 02:53:37

Go, you can't miss this

We did 2 tours, the 4x4 tour and a coach tour to the mountains and waterfalls. The Cascades waterfall is amazing and truly stunning. Plenty of water even in August. Go in the rafts under the spray, great experience and photos. A guided tour to the mountains is a must, go alone and you miss some of the sights.

Ride & Surf Morocco

We spent 4 days in the Atlas Mountains together with Rachid and Lachsen after continuing our trip towards the Atlantic Sea for some surfing. The Toubkal area is great for skiing and with our guides we made the best choice! Everything was perfectly organized for a good price. We are experienced Skiers and therefore Rachid called Lachsen (am I spelling it right?!) in the boat, a very cheerful Moroccan Ski God!! He knew all the best runs and the nicest couloirs... Nothing to complain, we had a great time! Goooood food - always fresh from our private chef, nice stories about their culture and habits and great knowledge about the surrounding mountains and areas. These guys always smile and are always good for a laugh! Can only recommend these guides to people of all skill levels, best choice for sure. Thank you again for the good time Rachid and Lachsen, Cheers from Italy - The Booys

Food tour

We have Mohammed azim as our tour gourde, would highly recommend, he certainly knew his subject, although the random photo with a sheets head was weird it is also a good talking point.

A wonderful day

This was arranged via the raid in which we stayed and undoubtedly it was the best and most value for money day of our stay in Marrakech. As I am not as fit as my younger companions I had a large mule while they walked. It was amazingly comfortable and the animal wet through rivers and along tiny pathways with ease. The guides were great, showing us plants an points of interest all the way. We had a lovely lunch prepared by the family of one of the guides - good meat, lots of vegetables and fresh oranges. They were wonderful.

The ultimate guide to toubkal

Rachid Aztat organised a trek to the summit of Toubkal for myself and fourteen friends in June 2014. I want to thank him for such an excellent job. From the moment he picked us up at Marrakech Airport until the time he returned us to the Medina we were in his safe hands. We are a pretty mixed group and Rachid, along with his colleague Abdull, seemed to be everywhere, all the time, offering a helping hand, a smile, some local knowledge or just a chat. The organisation of the trek was highly professional, and Rachid's time estimates were very accurate. His patience in answering our endless questions does him credit. The cooked lunches were tasty and portions were large. I would highly recommend Rachid to anyone considering a trip to the Atlas Mountains. I look forward to the day that I return there myself. And... the view from the top is something else!!

Great two-day Toubkal trek

In middle of June I participated in a two-day Toubkal trek. I was picked up from the riad in Marrakesh and driven to Imlil where we were handed over to our guide Rachid. His engaging and personal approach made us feel safe and most welcome to beautiful Toubkal trek. He speaks excellent English, he is friendly and attentive. I plan to return to the Toubkal-trip with my son, definitely I would like to choose again Rachid as guide for my next trip. Tibor from Belgium / Hungary

Toubkal summit 2 day trek

Rachid is calm, collected, has a good sense of humour and knows the area exceptionally well. He arranged great food, coffee, water, tea breaks, mule and guided us from Imlil to the refuge and then onwards up to the summit and back down again without a hitch. He provided exceptional support for the summit climb and arranged crampons as well. One thing I would recommend is going for a longer tour that includes the summit hike as it would then give you time to really enjoy the scenery and escape. I hope to plan another trek with Rachid soon. He is very flexible and has a huge number of options for where to go, what to do. Just email him with your time frame and what you like doing and he will no doubt be able to tailor something to your needs and wants. Yalla!

A fantastic full day trip in the Atlas Mountains with Get Your Guide Tours

We had a wonderful day trip through the Atlas Mountains. We were picked up at our hotel on the outskirts of Marrakech and driven in a 4 wheel vehicle through the 3 sections of the mountains. We stopped at a Berber village and were shown lots of herbs and spices being grown. along with medicinal and beauty products, oils etc. We then visited a shop making and selling, Table Linen, Rugs, Scarves etc. We walked up to the top of a waterfall, drove past the man made lake. We stopped for traditional lunch in a Berber house on the top of a mountain range. We sat outside with views to die for and ate Veg soup and Meat and Veg Tagines.

Day tour to Atlas Mountains

We are staying at the Riad Dar Anika. I will write another review for the Riad (it is wonderful). The manager Antonio arranged for us to go on a day tour to the Atlas Mountains. It was the most wonderful day and experience. We left at 9am, collected by our driver Jawad who was delightful. He speaks very good English and was an extremely good driver (very important, going up the mountain). We drove for about an hour and a half and then he picked up our guide Hassam and then dropped us all off after 5 mins to start our walk. We walked for about 2 hours. Hassam is a lovely chap. Speaks very good English. We had fun and joked with him. We walked to the waterfall and then carried on. Hassam is very good at assessing how well you walk and will adjust the walk to suit the person. Don't be worried if you can't walk for 2 hours and miss out on this trip as it can suit everyone. We had lunch at Hassam's house. It was a fantastic lunch with so much food and his mother cooked it. She even made a birthday cake for my husband as it was his birthday (the Riad must have told Hassam). The little children from the village came in and had some cake. They were very sweet and it was great to see them. We walked for about 10 mins after lunch and Jawad brought us back. We arrived back at 4.30pm. It was wonderful to leave the city behind for a day and see nature and how people live a stress free life!

Tough but funny moment with a super good guide

Atlas Mountain in summer has less water that leads the scenic view less attractive. However, the trip to visit the berbers village is interesting and funny. Our son, 4 years old, likes riding the mule very much. On the way, we stopped by a very well designed hotel, Kasbah du Toubkal for a drink, where the view from the terrace is breathtaking. During this trip, I have to mention Ismail, our guide, and his partner, Hassim as our driver, the best guide I met till now. He has been always thinking of our interesting, and taking care of our son, and holding him for climbing the mountain to the Ourika Waterfall, which is an impossible task for us. I will definetely recommend him and Hassim to anybody if you visit Marrakech and the surrounding.

Tina

I decided in a senior moment to book on a group booking to climb Mount Toubkal. Rachid was our guide for the 2 day trek. He's amazingly physically fit and did the climb during Ramadan which was very tough on him to climb with no drink and food. Rachid is excellent at extending his hospitality to the group members and his team are a credit to him (including the 2 mules) and his wife who cooked some wonderful meals. Many praises to Rachid and his team for a wonderful and memorable experience. I could not have been on safer hands for this trek Will definitely book via Rachid again. Be assured Rachid will take very good care of you. His manners are impeccable.

Amazing experience

Whilst in Marrakech for a week we decided on a day trip to the Atlas Mountains. I negotiated a price with a taxi driver and once there, I paid for a guide to take my family and I, on a safe path up the Mountain. The scenery is stunning, especially the waterfalls, and seeing how the Berber people live a simplistic life made me realise how materialistic the Western Society is. There were no issues at all during the day and our guide was fantastic.

You should see this

We did The Berber Trails of the Atlas Mountains with isango.com. Was amasing. Would recommend. Just have in mind that the collecting point is NOT your hotel but Club Med at Jamaa El Fna square and is better to give them a ring the day before.

Great day out

This is advertised as a 4x4 day trip but the only off-road was the car park. However, you did need a 4x4 on the roads up the mountain. The scenery is spectacular. The Atlas mountains with their snow caps (in late April) are amazing. Stops are made at a pottery producing tagines - reasonably priced, and we stopped at a Berber village for lunch in a local restaurant. The food was very good. You make regular stops for photos. Great day out.

Fantastic Trek to Mount Toubkal with a Fanstatic Guide, Rachid and a Fabulous Cook, Ibrahim!!!

Trekking to Mount Toubkal - We began our trip by being collected at our hotel in Marrakech by taxi. We were brought to just outside Imlil were we met Rachid (our guide) and Ibrahim (our cook). We had forgotten to order sleeping bags for hire but this was not a problem, Rachid contacted someone in Imlil and they dropped the sleeping bags off to us before we left. The sleeping bags were really good quality and very clean.... it saved us bringing them on our flight..... On the first day we trekked for about 5 hours with lunch in between.... Rachid answered any questions we had about the culture and location we were at.. the food was absolutlety fabulous.... very Moroccan and very wholesome food. We trekked through some Berber villiages and ended up at a refuge in one of them. The accomodation was basic (which is to be expected) but very clean with a toilet and hot shower and you could charge all your electronic stuff.... the food again was really good. Rachid brought us for a walk before dinner and answered any questions we had. The next day we had planned to trek up to 2700M but as I wasnt feeling well we went up to 2200 and trekked for about 5 hours again through some lovely villages and ended up at 2250m at the Tamsolt refuge. And as I wasnt feeling well Rachid called Ibrahim, the cook and told him so he made some rice for me and gave me a local remedy to drink. This was extemely thoughful of them to think of me. Again the refuge at Tamsolt was fantastic, toilet, hot water, electricity etc and very clean. On the third day we headed off at 7.30am as this was going to be a strenuous day.... it was the hardest day as we went from 2250m up to 3600m, but the views and scenary were amazing, we passed a fab waterfall that day too... also it was so quiet and not like other treks were you meet alot of trekkers... there was a little snow at 3600m. We got a packed lunch that day, which was lovely and very sufficient and then headed to base camp which was at approx 3207m. This was another lovely refuge. It was very busy so we had to share a dorm. There was 16 people in it but as it was only for one night it was fine. Food again was fab, we got homemade chips, which was such a treat. The last day we headed off at 6am to the summit.. it was a hard enough trek but very enjoyable, met loads of lovely people. We made it to 4167m. The last day was very long, 9 hours walking. We walked all the way down to Imlil via a different route. This is another way people trek to Mount Toubkal but I would recommend the trek we did as the scenary is much nicer. If you come from Imlil you walk through a valley the whole time which makes it a very boring trek.. Rachid then arranged for a taxi back to Marrakech for us.. we arrived back to Marrakech by 5.30pm. The guide we had and the cook made our trip.... they were so helpful with everything, even when I wasnt well they looked after me and on the last day Rachid gave me a lend of his walking poles as there was some snow..... You need to have a level of fitness for this trek if you want to enjoy it, there are parts that a physically tough enough and a good pair of hiking boots are definately required..... I would highly recommend Atlas Mountains Guide, Rachid and Ibrahim to take you on this stunning Trek through the Atlas Mountains :-)

4 day / 3 night trek to Jebel Toubkal

Would highly recommend Rachid Aztat as your guide to summit Toubkal. We were picked up at our hotel in Marrakech & from then on, had a lovely time. We stayed in great refuges and if you can, ask Rachid to bring Ibrahim as the cook because that man can do amazing things at over 2000meters!! Beautiful food, nearly too much to be honest!! No fear of any weight loss on this trip! There was really nothing to fault about Rachid so if you want a hassle free, reliable & well priced service, pick Rachid!

Toubkal, Desert, and Imperial Cities

We did a 12 day tour with Atlas Mountain Guide including 4 days trekking Toubkal, 4 days of deserts and gorges, and 4 days of imperial cities. Rachid Aztat organized the whole trip and accompanied us. He did a great job both arranging the trip and handling the logistics along the way. He adjusted the itinerary based on our fitness level and interests. Highly recommended! The highlights of the trip were definitely the mountains and deserts. If you are headed to Morocco, definitely find the time to get out of the cities and see the countryside.

Breath taking views

Hour climb to see beautiful waterfall, did not go prepared, so wore flip-flops. Plimsoles would have made the experience a whole lot more enjoyable /

Amazing trip in atlas mountains and desert

Rashid was an amazing guide in the atlas mountains for our summit of Jebel Toubkal. He also organized a one night desert excursion and hosted us at his family hotel for one night. Great service, food and insight into the Burbur lifestyle

To the top of North Africa!

We did a 4-Day-Trek starting from Imlil in October. Although we had bad luck with the weather (heavy rainfall the first two days), we enjoyed our Trek very much. Mohamed, our guide with his good sense of humor guided us safely and Mohamed, our cook provided us with very tasty food. Everything was organized very well - thanks again! The landscape in the high atlas is stunning and reaching the top of Toubkal an unforgettable moment.
