Worth a Visit

We live 90 minutes from here and this was our first visit for a birthday event. We stayed one night in Room 2 in the lodge. A lovely room overlooking the cottages and the ocean. My most important impression was the friendly and professional staff We did not partake of any spa services, but took a tour around the property this morning before we left. Impressive. A quick visit, but we have plans to go back for a full experience.

Terrible online booking system for spa

The spa is great BUT the online booking system is terrible and hard to get appts booked and find out availability. Forget about reaching anyone at the desk, rings and leave message only and lucky if you get a call back or an email returned to book

Stunning location and beautiful rooms

Stunning location and beautiful rooms. We stayed our first in one of the Rhubarb rooms with an ocean view and the second night in one without the view. The room is just large for two people to be comfortable rathet than cramped, with a huge bed and crisp cotton linen. It's beautifully furnished and decorated. The bathroom has a super shower and large fluffy towels. Breakfast is a buffet with plenty of choice and the staff are friendly and helpful The thing that really makes this special is the location and the stunning views. A private beach edges onto a sandy / rocky bay. Plenty of adirondack chairs are provided and staff will light a fire for you if you ask. A stunning place to watch the sunset. We liked it so much, we stayed an extra night.

Oceanside wedding resort

Stayed two nights in Hollyhock 3. Comfortable bed, great soaker tub and nice little deck with view of the ocean. Attended a wedding - lovely venue. The kitchen was well appointed and at check-in they offered us a bag of ice which was a nice touch. The wrap around deck at the main lodge was great for the guests of the wedding to spill outside from the dancing!

Great potential

We went to celebrate our 36th anniversary. The information provided upon booking the spa was clear that phones were not allowed in the spa area. That was impressed upon us again when we checked in. So, I was shocked when the first thing I saw when I left the change room was a man pacing the pool deck speaking loudly on his phone. We soon found out he was one of a group attending a wedding the next day and using their spa time to pre-game the festivities, complete with profanity. One woman even exclaimed how at other spas she had attended, people were expected to be quiet. The change rooms were spotless and the facilities were very nice. Towels and robes were excellent. In other circumstances it would have been a relaxing spa experience. We each ordered one drink from the spa bar and enjoyed the fresh juice. Upon leaving, the attendant was confused about our method of payment and attempted to charge us for drinks we did not order nor drink. I have tried to address my concerns with the manager four times, but have not yet been successful. This is a lovely facility and we enjoyed ourselves, but it was not the quiet, relaxing experience we were expecting.

Lovely experience!

I loved the beautiful setting of Oceanstone. It feels magical as you approach the property. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The facilities were very clean and inviting. I enjoyed the food that was on site and the drinks were excellent also. This was the perfect experience for me to take some time to myself and relax. I would recommend this spa to anyone!

A slippery slope

The atmosphere is really nice. Found it odd that the massage huts are seperated from the mail building. I found the room chilly. The massage bed was heated. My mother and I had the Resurfacing Facial. We both found it underwhelming. There was a double cleanse, lukewarm towels used to wash off the face, which made me feel even colder. Lukewarm eye compress. Nice arm and head massage. Foot cleanse and wrap was odd and left me wondering " what was that? ". At the end of the facial, there were three gongs, which I later found out, when I looked, was actually a sound bowl. Very unsettling when I was relaxed. Then the massage was over, however the oil residenue was not. Both my mother and I were left with oily skin, faces and hair. I asked if it would absorb and was told it would by the several staff, but when my face and head became itchy I washed it off with warm water. It wasn't until I arrived home 5 hours later, that I was able to wash off the grease. It actually smelled like Skin So Soft. Horrible for the cost.

Waterside recharge

Oceanstone Resort and Spa is a collection of cabins and a multi-room building with an attached spa nestled on one of the ocean inlets that make up Peggy's Cove. There are small cabins (eg Periwinkle) that are on the water and others further back with water views. We stayed in OceanSpray which was further back but had a nice deck and a view. Our " apartment " had a kitchenette and BBQ grill and while that may not seem necessary when you are on holiday, it proved invaluable during the " off season " when most establishments (including restaurants) were either closed or had limited hours. Oceanstone is affiliated with a separate on property restaurant called Rhubarb. The shortened hours didn't fit our schedule but the takeout meal we ordered was very good. Oceanstone has its own kitchen, also with limits during the off season. We ordered some simple dishes from there and they too were very good. The spa offers " hydrotherapy " and massages. Hydrotherapy comprises sauna, steam rooms, hot tubs and cold plunges. All were very refreshing and therapeutic. We were disappointed with our massage which turned out to be more of a " relaxation gentle caress and facial " than a true muscle massage. But the management was responsive to our concerns and reduced the charge by half. The resort is situated on a beautiful spot and the accommodations are very comfortable, well maintained and well run. We will definitely consider returning for another vacation.

Lovely spa and resort, but a few growing pains to overcome

Our stay at Oceanstone was relaxing and enjoyable, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. However, we encountered a few minor but important things that should not have happened. Upon arrival, we went directly to the spa. We were greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable staff member who gave us the intro to the spa. Once inside a short while, we decided we would like a glass of wine while relaxing. When we each ordered a glass of Pinot Grigio wine off the menu, we were told that it wasn't available as the shipment hadn't come in. Although we still enjoyed another variety, it was disappointing that this happened. There was a liquor store less than 5 minutes away, and we also discovered that the registration office had a bottle of the Pinot Gregio wine on display. We stayed in Rhubarb Room 5 (beautiful view!), above the restaurant. One of our windows was missing a screen. It was very hot and it would have been beneficial to have all the windows open in the evening instead of running the noisy air conditioning unit. (Heat pumps would be much more efficient and quieter.) We encountered the same situation while in the Rhubarb Restaurant downstairs... the window next to our table couldn't be opened because there was no screen. These are simple maintenance items that should have been attended to. We would return as these aren't deal breakers, but having these issues attended to would elevate the experience.

Spa - Great idea not executed well

Oceanstone Spa is new and hopefully will continue to evolve. Pro's. Treatment spaces are lovely Decor is lovely Staff are friendly Food is good Cons. Nordic Spa outside area is small. Not a lot of seating options for couples, seats are mainly for groups. Not all seats have access to fire pit. This will be limiting in winter / cooler months. The seating is on one side, and hot tubs and saunas, on the other, makes for a sense of being on top of the other guests. The riverbed walk, I don't know what that is meant to be, 2 meters of uneven ground with a trickle of water?? Strange. However my biggest complaint is the female change rooms (can't speak to the male). They are tiny, 2 showers, and 2 toilets, 1 of each accessible but no anti-room to hang towels when showering. The bench is narrow and the lockers are on top of them, plus the lockers are stacked. So people can't sit on the benches for guests accessing lockers. You're constantly disturbing someone. 7 people lined up waiting to use the showers. You have to leave the change room for towel and robe drop so towels and robes were on the. floors. Then there is this weird corridor with a mirror where you can dry your hair with the 1 hairdryer. I left without showering, which ended the day on a sour note. At reception, there was a further lineup. Perhaps this is a result of scheduling, you only get 3 hours and if guests are staggered it wouldn't be as crowded? Having said that there were only 8 people and it felt crowded. The space allocation just doesn't work. Massive reception, massive wide corridor with no purpose other than to reach the change rooms, then a 12x 8 (approx) room for everyone to squeeze into. Would I go again. Probably not. There are equally good hotel Spa offerings and for a true Nordic spa experience there are other options not too far away. I have other niggles but these are the big issues. Great effort but needs improvement to ensure return customers.

Amazing spot

From check-in, until check-out, the staff of Oceanstone were amazing. They offered rooms at a fantastic discount to those forced from their homes due to the wildfires, but treated us like any other guest from out of town. The breakfast was a full buffet with solid choices, the rooms were spacious, well appointed and clean, the food at Rhubarbs was great, and the views of the ocean fantastic. We cannot thank them enough for helping us and others out the way they did, and even without that, I would recommend this spot to anyone!

Roomy Suites

We stayed in the Hollyhock and it was a great size & comfortable. Small kitchen and dining table. Soft bed. Even had a soaker tub. The complimentary breakfast was delicious. Not a great variety but tasty nonetheless. All the staff are so friendly and great. There's a fire pit outdoors to enjoy and a small beach with some chairs to watch the sunset. Rhubarb restaurant is on site and excellent. Only lost a star because there was no water at the resort in the morning.

Luxurious and relaxing ocean side retreat

Wonderful birthday treat - quiet and peaceful right next to the ocean. We were in the suite Hollyhock # 3 and it was everything we could have asked for: comfy bed, huge soaker tub, skylights, full kitchen full of outstanding breakfast offerings ie. juice, fruit, yogurt, bagels, cream cheese, eggs, jam, cheese, REAL bacon (which my husband loved!) and a fantastic deck with ocean views during the day and star gazing at night. The birds and rabbits were a welcome addition too. The staff here really knock themselves out in every way to ensure guests feel truly cared for. Thank you. We will be back soon!

An Oasis in the Pandemic

Although I reviewed Oceanstone several years ago, I thought I would see what it was like staying at one of the few places that seem to be surviving during the pandemic. Currently Nova Scotians are limited to places within the province and there are very few options during the winter months. Thankfully Oceanstone is a great one. Here's why. My wife and I have both stayed at Oceanstone a number of times over the past ten years, both on work related retreats and for a romantic getaway. It is the closest full facility resort to Peggy's Cove, yet has a distinct ambience of its own that would make it worthwhile to visit no matter where its location. However, we really had no idea of what the experience would be like in the middle of a pandemic and wanted to find out. The starting point was the Oceanstone website which offers a variety of packages to choose from. The property is made up of a dozen separate buildings, some of which have multiple suites, while others are completely separate cottages, one as large as three bedrooms. The most desirable are the five cottages that are literally right on the shore of the open Atlantic Ocean with great views of Paddy's Head lighthouse. If you want to go to sleep to the sound of crashing surf you can't do better than booking one of these. Unfortunately they were all booked for the day we would be staying so we opted for the Ocean Vista suite which is on the upper floor of a building a bit away from the shore, but with a nice deck from which the sound of the sea is very evident. One thing I really appreciate about the Oceanstone website is that it has very good and honest pictures of all the suites and cottages so you know exactly what you are getting. Here's where things are done differently due to Covid. After booking you receive a detailed email about your stay which includes the fact you don't need to physically check in. Arrive at or after check in time, park your vehicle and your room will be open with the key inside. Our package included a charcuterie selection with a bottle of Jost Great Big Friggin' Red and this was what greeted us on arrival. The charcuterie was in the fridge and taken out for the picture I have included with this review. The wine was friggin' good and the charcuterie as well, in fact so good we saved about half to put on a homemade pizza the next night. We had dinner that night at Rhubarb restaurant which I'll review separately. Oceanstone offers its own menu with 48 hours notice. Friends of ours who stayed for two nights highly recommended it, especially the desserts. Fast forward to a great night's sleep with the sound of the surf a gentle murmur in the background. As part of our package we got a full breakfast served downstairs in the main lodge. Instead of a traditional breakfast buffet, which Covid has pretty well done away with, we were served individually by a very pleasant young lady behind plexiglass. Looking out the window of the breakfast room I saw what looked like a large bird sitting on a glacial erratic on a small island just off shore. Sure enough, it was a bald eagle which was staring out at the nearby Cape Islander lobster boat which was hauling traps on a surprisingly warm and sunny February morning. What a great way to end our visit. So if you are feeling a bit down and who isn't these days, raise your spirits with an overnight stay or longer at Oceanstone. Be sure to check out the changes taking place at Peggy's Cove for yourself.

Piece of paradise close to home

Since international travel hasn't been advised this year, we've used the time to explore our beautiful province of Nova Scotia. We came across Oceanstone while on a drive to Peggys Cove in the spring. We figured why not try it. So we booked the Oceanvista suite in July. What a great decision! We fell in love with the resort. Oceanvista is a beautiful second floor suite with a deck that overlooks the treetops towards the ocean. You can't go wrong with this room. Since we loved the resort so much, we decided to book the Crows Nest in September. It's a 2-level oceanfront cottage. It was spectacular! So cozy! And we LOVED the oceanfront private fire pit! So once we left, we decided, we may as well try one of their other oceanfront cottages, so we booked Periwinkle for November. This is probably our favorite cottage so far. Since November was unusually warm, we were lucky that we could use its oceanfront fire pit. This was such a great little getaway again, so we decided to book the Crows Nest once again for December. Obviously it was too cold to use the fire pit, but just as great is the indoor wood stove! As you can see, we absolutely love Oceanstone. We don't own a cottage, so we use their cottages every chance we get. There's also a great restaurant on the property called Rhubarb. We've been there often. We've also ordered their take out to have while enjoying watching the fire. We're still not done with Oceanstone. We decided to book a cottage for around Christmas since Covid is preventing us from visiting our families. This time we booked the Treehouse cottage. All the oceanfront cottages were already reserved. Treehouse is a little further back but still has a wood stove so we'll still get the cozy effect. We're looking forward to experiencing the Treehouse. If you're looking for a cozy romantic getaway with wonderful ocean views, I highly recommend Oceanstone.

Magical Get Away

My husband and I celebrated his Birthday in a cabin on the ocean at Oceanstone Resort. Our cabin had such rustic charm and contained everything you could ever need or want. We sat in our Adirondacks In front of our cabin listening to the waves by the fire and it felt magical! The staff went above any beyond for us, and were so welcoming! Can't wait to return!

Long weekend

A hidden gem on the South Shore, right on the ocean. Accommodations are upscale cabins with all the luxury you'd expect at a high-end hotel. A top notch restaurant is also within the ground of the resort. The only thing that they don't have is a spa in-site. It's also close to canoeing and kayaking and walking trails. Only 50 minutes to Halifax.

Exceeded our expectations (which were already high) !

We live in downtown Halifax and wanted to get out of town for the weekend. We have eaten at Rhubarb (their restaurant) many times and it never let us down. Our stay in the resort was much the same - great food, helpful staff, comfortable room, and beautiful outdoor experience. We had a picnic on the beach, BBQ both nights for dinner (they did all the prep), and bounced around the area to see some shops and of course Peggy's Cove. Start to finish, it was 5 stars. We can't wait to visit again.

40th birthday

This is an absolutely gorgeous resort on the ocean. Just minutes from the beautiful Peggys Cove, Nova Scotia. Perfect for a wedding or any special event. Looking for a beautiful venue, this could be your answer. We spent the night celebrating a 4Oth birthday in January at the Captains House. It was amazing. Imagine a summer wedding? 100% recommended

Beautiful resort! However room was LOUD!!

Sadly as laid back as I am I had the Rhubarb # 2 room which was well appointed comfortable and has a beautiful ocean view deck!! However : (it's right above the restaurant (which is fantastic by the way) but If you are looking for a relaxed ocean view room to listen to the outdoors this is not it 🙁 such a beautiful spot and room but having whatever part of the restaurant just below totally kills the experience with constant dishes clanging, cutlery dropping, blenders, etc. I would stay here again but splurge on a room FAR away from the restaurant.

Rustic cottage on the harbour with spectacular views

We booked in for four nights and used this as our base while exploring the South Shore and Bay of Fundy. We stayed at the Grey Owl Cottage which was perfect for two and were spoiled with a sea view only feet away from our decking. The cottage has a very comfortable large double bed, comfortable lounge area with a log burner. There is a little kitchenette fully equipped for self-catering. The bathroom has a fantastic tub for relaxing after a long day of exploring.

A+ Views, accommodations, service and experience

We had a wonderful stay at Oceanstone at Periwinkle Cottage. The cottage was lovely with stunning views of the beach and ocean. Falling asleep to the gentle sounds of the ocean really added to the experience. the wood stove added ambiance and we had a great dinner at the onsite restaurant Rhubarb. Being able to open the back door of the cottage and go for a walk around the rock pools and play some washer toss right off our back deck was fun too! Great spot for a get away.

2019-03-20 22:16:44

Fire and Ice

Lovely " cottage like " room. The Hollyhock. We are used to staying in a cottage at the resort, but tried an " apartment " type arrangement. Beautiful rustic suite - gorgeous view. Fire and Ice at The Rhubarb (walking distance) with a vodka fleet with Solomon Gundy, on the back deck, mid-winter. Local vodkas served from ice bowls on a table of candles and ice sculptures. Black and White movie on a white screen outside and a bon fire in the distance, near the walking paths to accommodations. Friendly conversation with the staff who served and tended the fire.

2018-08-25 15:30:56

Rhubarb Rooms!

We had booked a room with a view of the Ocean and we were given a room with a view in the area known as the Rhubarb building. Although it was a little ways up from the ocean we could still see if from our 2nd floor private balcony. Our room was above the Restaurant and had a very large balcony and nice overall view. They provided a common kitchen area with a Keurig Machine, Fridge, Microwave, sink and all the cups and glasses needed. Internet connection is very poor and when we spoke to other guests they had the same issues. There are no elevators and quite a few stairs to carry your luggage up to the room. We arrived late at night and it was a little tricky getting up the stairs to our room. Also, the restaurant does not open until 11:00am. So forget breakfast at this location. To get five stars it should offer some sort of breakfast options on the property for travellers who want to eat and go, but they had nothing to offer in this area.

2018-08-18 00:43:48

horrible experiences at this place, don't stay here!

First, we checked in at the office and the guy worked at the front desk wasn't welcoming and clearly showed that he doesn't care about the guests and wanted nothing to do with us. Their website said they can set up the outdoor badminton net for guests to play but when we asked them, they said they don't have the equipments. Then they shouldn't promised it on their website. We stayed at one of the better rooms already but the room is fulled of dead bugs on the ceiling and walls. The sink was not working with water not draining. Every night there are so many mosquitoes in our room even we didn't open any windows. We stayed above the restaurant and is noisy at night. The AC Unit is loud and doesn't keep a same temperature. This place is expensive for the quality and condition it provided. I would never go back to this place again! Please be careful, I read the reviews and thought it would be good but it a Was the opposite.

2018-06-27 09:23:44

Rhubarb 2

My girlfriend and I stayed in Rhubarb 2 which is a guest room above the restaurant. Overall we were a bit disappointed with this room given the price as the room is quite small and felt more like a university dorm room (with a common area space outside of the room) rather than a hotel room. The air conditioner in the room is definitely a necessity but was very loud, however, didn't completely drown out noise from the restaurant directly below us the next morning. We walked around the property and everything behind the restaurant / guest room building is very nice, private, and scenic along the water. I think we would definitely pay for a cottage if we were to stay here again as we just didn't see the value in what we got for one of the Rhubarb rooms. During our stay, staff within the resort were friendly and the proximity to Peggy's Cove is only a 3 or 4 minute drive.

2018-04-26 10:18:44

So lovely

We stayed here for our anniversary this year. The staff were absolutely lovely and left us a bottle of wine and a note in our room. We were in a cottage right on the water, accompanied with a fireplace and chocolates provided to make the experience even better! Great place, great people!

2018-03-26 13:09:06

Good for one time stay

Stayed here recently and everything was clean and enjoyable with coffee / tea in the alcove. Service was excellent in the restaurant and the food was great too. We had a room above the Restaurant which was very convenient since we didn't have to walk outside! Unfortunately there was music / radio on ALL NIGHT until about 6 a. m.coming from the restaurant downstairs which was supposed to have closed at 9:00 pm.

Excellent family gathering at Oceanstone

We had our family gathering here, in the large Captains Cottage. 8 adults and our 3 year old granddaughter. This was my third stay... one stay in the main building for a business retreat, one stay for a romantic weekend in a smaller cottage and now the family gathering. Can't say enough about the fabulous time we had! The Captains Cottage has a King bedroom with attached bathroom on main floor, overlooking the ocean.. Upstairs there is a large bedroom with 2 super comfy twin beds... overlooking the ocean. Another large bedroom with 2 Queen beds... overlooking the ocean. There is a bathroom between the 2 bedrooms. The main floor has an open concept living area / kitchen. There is a fridge, stove, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker. Every utensil imaginable is there, pots and pans, fry pans, bowls, serving dishes and more than enough plates, bowls, glasses for the 8 of us. There is coffee, sugar and sweeteners, cream, bottled water. The rooms all had fans and chocolates on each bed (my Granddaughter thought it was Easter, running to each room to find the chocolates. 😊) The bedrooms all had night lights. Small details mean a lot. There is a huge back deck overlooking the ocean, a bbq, a fire pit with chairs around it. You can walk back to the ocean... stunning!!!!! There is also a front deck. The cottage was warm, plus there is a wonderful woodstove with ample wood at our disposal. We were able to get an early check in. Front desk was wonderful... I called a couple of times beforehand with my multitude of questions. The family was overwhelmed with the beauty of the ocean and this fabulous cottage... they are already insisting we come here every year.... a new tradition and a way to make wonderful family memories. To wake up to the expansive ocean views was truly breathtaking and memorable. A great way to re charge the batteries in the middle of a Maritime winter. Thank you Oceanstone and the wonderful staff, for making our family weekend so memorable and special! Highly recommend a stay here!

Postcard perfect

Oceanstone Resort provides a stunning backdrop for a wedding. Beautiful east coast vistas; could it get any better than this? The ocean views are incredible and the famous Peggy's Cove is just a few minutes away. The staff provides warm East coast hospitality and are clearly dedicated to making the wedding day special. I was very touched to see how hard they worked to make my niece's wedding beautiful. If you want a memorable wedding experience, this is it. Most of the rooms and cabins are steps from the ocean. They are uniquely decorated and well-equipped. Ours was a bit dusty in corners. The dishwasher didn't seem to get things clean. That would be our only complaint. One tip: the Rhubarb rooms aren't Oceanside. They're near the road, above a busy restaurant. The food is great there though. Also the weather can change on a dime--on this September visit it was freezing one day and then warmed up within hours. Pack accordingly and then enjoy this beautiful place.

Beautiful and Relaxing

We only booked 1 night and chose this location as it was only 5km from Peggy's Cove. I called the resort to let them know we would be arriving after 6pm and they said if we were later they would just leave the key for us, so it wasn't a problem. We arrived just after 6pm and were greeted by Austin. He said that since the resort wasn't full he was going to offer us a free upgrade. We were give the Hollyhock # 1 which was a fully efficient suite with a kitchenette and it had a view of the ocean. Austin also called the Rhubarb restaurant for us and made reservations. He was very nice and helpful. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. In the evening we went to the shared outdoor fireplace and enjoyed a nice evening by the fire listening to the waves crashing on the shore. I would definitely go back.

Ocean waves, Sea Salt Air and Stunning Views

Oceanstone is a beautiful resort. It is nestled amongst tall trees. Winding pathways take you to the various accommodations- Inn rooms and private cottages. We stayed in an Inn room which was lovely, clean and fresh. Oceanstone Resort as the name suggests, is located right on the Ocean and has stunning views. Our next stay, I would most definitely spring for a cottage right on the ocean, the sound of the waves lulling you to sleep at night would be well worth it!

WONDERFUL STAYCATION

We absolutely love the Oceanstone Seaside Resort! It's beautiful and right on the water! We had a fantastic night away. Soak up the sun and the salt air. It's a wonderful place to relax. It's only 40 mins from Halifax and is the ideal retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. Be sure to stop in for a meal at Rhubarb! Plus it is only 5 minutes from Peggy's Cove. We highly recommend this charming NS getaway!

Winter evening getaway

We stayed in Rhubarb Suite 5. The room was really nice with a great view. Large patio which we couldn't use because it was so cold but a great size. The bed was also comfortable which made for a great sleep and we had an overall enjoyable time. Two things I would mention is that the room does not have a small fridge although there is one in the common area of the Rhubarb rooms which also has coffee available. Second, this room is above the restaurant and it is a wooden structure so you hear the noise from downstairs until it closes and the noise of slamming doors etc when people arrive the next morning for prep. Wasn't a huge deal but something to keep in mind!

A Little Bit of Heaven

We miss it already. From the time we stepped into the Grey Owl cottage we knew we were home. Nestled amongst the trees and steps away from the ocean it had all the comforts in addition to the ambiance. We decided to take a few days extra at the end of last week after I attended a conference in Halifax. There were a few places along the east coast we wanted to see and Oceanstone Resort was within 45 minutes of all of them. Peggy's Cove was 5 minutes down the road and Lunenburg just 45. The staff were amazing and made sure you were well taken care of. We cooked breakfast in the morning before we left sightseeing and cooked dinner on the BBQ. One afternoon we picked out two lobsters at a seafood warehouse down the street, they cooked them for us in 20 minutes and brought them back to the comforts of the cottage to enjoy them while looking out at the ocean. In the morning you could here the lobster boats as they dropped the traps. The sunsets were beautiful with Paddy's Head Lighthouse in clear view. You would be hard pressed to find anything more beautiful than this and you will not be disappointed.

Natural beauty

Oceanstone is a small resort nestled on the rocky shores of the Atlantic. The cottages and rooms are all quaint and unique, and at least one is pet -friendly. There is access to housekeeping areas if you want to brew a cuppa. The staff are helpful and very friendly. There is a facility for a lovely wedding or social event. It is a short walk to Rhubarb, a pub / bistro style restaurant, and a stone's throw to the classic scenery of Peggy's Cove. A short drive farther down the South Shore will take you to Mahone Bay and Lunenburg, both lovely tourist destinations.

Incredible Corporate Retreat Spot

Perfect spot for a corporate retreat. Our team of 13 booked a 2-day strategy session at Oceanstone and were impressed at every touchpoint. The food was healthy, fresh, delicious and on time. Susan and the team at Oceanstone were very accommodating to our team's various allergy concerns and provided appropriate and well-labeled options. The gluten-free chocolate espresso cake was one of the tastiest desserts. Our strategy sessions were held in the grand room, beautiful ocean-facing windows, all supplies ready for us (flip charts, screen, projector etc.) and when we realized we forgot a Mac attachment for the projector their team managed to find one within the first hour and our session went on without a hitch. At the end of the first day we went out for a team hike a few minutes' drive away by Polly's Cove where we walked about 15 minutes to the water and enjoyed a private view of Peggy's Cove and took team pictures on the rocks. We had dinner at Rhubarb restaurant on site and again everything was seamless and the food was delicious. We had privacy to get our work done during the days and enjoy the cottages in the evening while still knowing the staff were always nearby and ready if we needed anything more. So worth it to get your team out of the city, recharge and focus on strategy while the staff take care of everything else for you.

Great weekend getaway

My boyfriend and I stayed for a nice weekend getaway from Halifax. The close proximity to Halifax was nice. We stayed in the Pines cottage. It was excellent. The onsite restaurant, Rhubarb, was nice and convenient. The bed was comfortable. One plus was that the cottage furnishings in the living room were updated from what the online pictures showed on their website. We are looking forward to staying with warmer weather so we can do some hiking and enjoy the grounds a bit more.

Great view, and friendly staff

My work and I had our Christmas Party here in early December. I really liked the seafood chowder that they served us, however, I wasn't a fan of the salads on their menu. (Garden and beet) The rooms are gorgeous and the staff is very friendly! We had a great time.

Beautiful cottage weekend with friends

You can't go wrong with Oceanstone. It's beautiful, well kept, modern but still cozy. I've stayed in a couple of different cottages over the years and have had a great experience each time. Excellent service from staff, gorgeous location. I went with friends but it would be a wonderful location for a romantic weekend away.

2015-09-15 13:46:46

We went for a family wedding

We stayed in the Treehouse, which had ample room for visiting. The beds were very comfortable and the place was very clean. The staff were great at bring us what we needed, whether extra towels or fans. I think this was a fantastic choice for a wedding. Not a big beach and no pool. If coming with kids alone, there may be less for them to do than other places (my kids had family to play with and the wedding to keep them busy). Close to Peggy's Cove though, which is a must-do.

Almost perfect

My husband and I stayed at this resort this week. It is a beautiful spot. The Oceanview is fabulous and the property is well maintained. We stayed in Rhubarb, which are rooms above the restaurant. If you choose to do this, keep in mind, the rooms with the balconies are where you want to be. There is a common kitchen area that is very handy. The rooms are recently renovated and very comfortable, but very small. There is no extra space to sit or lounge. There is a lovely lounge area in the main building that is available to all. A few things I would suggest... adirondacks on the beach would be nice. Also, this is a very much a wedding or large group venue, the cottages are gorgeous. It would be nice, if fires were set in all the pits in the evening, and perhaps a little more emphasis on using the complete property. Overall, beautiful.

My husband and I attend a family wedding in August 2015

My husband and I were absolutely blown away by this venue! As if the location was not amazing enough, the staff customer service experience was beyond anything we have had the pleasure of being of part of in all our travels. Great job Ocean Stone don't change a thing!!!

Too short stay to enjoy

We checked in late and checked out early, so there was insufficient time to enjoy the premises fully. However our Icean Vista suite on the second floor was quite comfortable with a great shower. The (queen) bed was a bit soft for my taste. Superb views. Friendly staff. Recommendable !

Absoutely Amazing

Our daughter's wedding brought us to this Nova Scotia's piece of Paradise. We cannot say enough about how well we were treated. Super Susan and the Lovely Lizzie were so helpful from the very beginning with the planning of the weekend wedding events and accommodated our many, many requests. The entire staff made us feel very welcomed and are all very friendly. They all understand the intricacies of creating an environment to achieve a successful wedding, and doing this always with a smile. The resort is so calming and relaxing complete with ocean views and warm breezes. The guests were very happy to be able to return to their rooms at any time rather than having to drive off to a hotel. The food was delicious with Chef Brian in the galley, accommodating various diet restrictions which enabled a safe eating plan for all. If you are planning a wedding look no further Oceanstone will be an incredible experience for a fun filled, organized wedding, sit back and make happy memories. The entire staff will make this happen for you. Thank ypu Oceanstone Team, you all are amazing!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!

We attended our daughter and son-in law's wedding here in Aug. It was absolutely perfect all around. The staff couldn't have been more attentive and accommodating. The venue is perfect for that medium sized wedding (100). Guests were gushing over the spectacular location. Thank you so much for making the newlyweds VERY happy that they chose your amazing resort! Couldn't be happier with the day!

2015-08-11 05:34:55

Excellent experience

My husband and I had our wedding at Oceanstone this summer. We cannot speak highly enough of the staff and the feel of the resort. We were looked after. Susan and Troy worked endlessly to ensure our day was stress free and fun filled. Their organization was exceptional and they put together our dream wedding. Our guests were treated exceptionally well and we were told many times that it was, 'the best wedding' people had ever attended. We could not possibly speak higher or recommend Oceanstone more.

Will return for a cottage. Inn rooms are overpriced

Stayed for 4 or 5 nights in October 2014 with my Husband in a Rhubarb Inn room. We originally wanted a cottage but were late making the reservations so only the smaller rooms were left. I loved the property and will definitely return but only if we can get a cottage. The room we had was way too small and way overpriced for what you get. Furniture was too big for the size of the room. No bathtub, only a small shower. No seating area in the room since it was only big enough to fit the bed. It was crowded having two large suitcases in the room with us. There was a nice little coffee area in the shared entry room which we enjoyed and was a nice touch.

2015-07-29 16:11:19

" Gorgeous Setting "

Oceanstone is in one of the most beautiful settings I have ever visited. Thinking we would be outside most of the time I chose Rhubarb # 1, which has an outdoor deck with a water view - the room was a little small and needs a comfy chair - we borrowed one from the common area when we were trapped in our room on a rainy afternoon. On the flip side, on a sunny afternoon it got a little warm in the room with no A / C - even though the fans helped. The main lodge has such an ultra nice common area with a fire place - too bad they did not quite have room to make one for the Rhubarb rooms. (please add 4 or 5 more ice trays to the freezer in the common area since there is only one small tray). Also, thankfully the smells from the restaurant did not seem to enter our room which smelled fresh but sometimes the hallways smelled like grease. The bed was so comfy and the bathroom so nice with a great stone shower and pedestal sink. Loved exploring the beautiful grounds and the Peggy's Cove area - absolutely gorgeous here!

2015-07-16 10:01:56

A little piece of paradise!!

We were there at the start of the summer and it was heaven. The staff were all absolutely wonderful, the cottage (Treehouse) was so amazing I didn't want to leave. Everything was so beautiful I just can't say enough positive things about it! Unfortunately we did not make it to the Rhubarb Restaurant but that gives us just another reason to have to come back again!! I would recommend this amazing wee place to anyone looking to explore the area but be able to retreat to a quiet peaceful spot away from the tourist hustle and bustle at the end of each day. We'll be back!!

Perfection

My husband and I were married at oceanstone last summer. it was absolulty beautiful, the food was great, exceptional service and wonderful staff. Each staff was polite, pleasant and made sure all our guest were happy. Beautiful place with exceptional staff. Highly recommend.

2015-07-08 11:07:24

Nice and cozy

Stayed here last night in Oceanvista suite. We had the upper level of house. Very quaint, with whirlpool tub, sitting area, small fridge with microwave. Large bathroom with a great shower. A deck that overlooks the grounds with a view of the water. A little blocked by trees but still visible. I called ahead to see if they had a room and spoke with a very polite and friendly young woman. I would give this a 5 out of 5 but the bed wasn't so comfortable and it was warm in the room. Other than it was great!

Quiet Getaway

This place is amazing! We were blown away by this place. Did not know there was a place like this so close to Halifax. The quiet cottage that we had was amazing for a couple to get away to, including an amazing view and secluded enough to feel like we were off on our own. With all the amenities of home but in a beautiful spot, it was amazing. Best part is falling asleep with the actual sound of the ocean coming in on the shores. No sound machine can do it justice! This seems like a great place to get away and relax for a week, with a small campfire for our cottage looking out over the ocean it was awesome. I can only imagine how this place looks in the winter. I have no doubt that it feels amazing with the wood fireplace they have inside. Definitely something to think about doing in the future.

Beautiful

Very friendly staff, quiet, great view of the water. Comfortable & beautifully appointed rooms. Very well Maintained property. The restaurant on the property is fabulous. Has a outstanding view of the water and many places to sit and connect with nature. Loved it!!!

2015-05-29 00:31:53

Beautiful views

Very friendly staff, quiet, great view of the water. Comfortable rooms. Had a great time while there. Would go back in an instant. On, y draw back is the walls are very thin so you can hear the other rooms.

Stayed for my brother's wedding and we enjoyed the resort

My family and I stayed here last August for my brother's wedding. I think his guests pretty much reserved the all the cabins available. We were in the 2 bedroom cabin right off the water. Overall I thought it was a nice place. I'm not sure I would use the word " resort " as I have different expectations when I see the word resort attached to a place. But it was well maintained and I thought they did a great job with my brother's wedding. The property is nice. Peggy's Cove (where all those pictures are taken) is a few miles away and is a cute town. I think for people who enjoy this type of scenery and environment then it could be enjoyable vacation stay. We just tend to prefer big city type stays.

Great seaside retreat

My wife and I recently had a date night outside the city and stayed in the Periwinkle Cottage. On a cold winter's night the fireplace and the sound of the nearby crashing surf were the highlights. The bedrooms were cozy and the beds were quite comfortable. There was a nice small kitchen area and a great living room area looking over the shore. The bathroom was small and a bit dated but clean. The TV was good with good channel selection but we did not use it too much. We did not try to access internet and so cannot comment on it. We would definitely do a date night here. Suggest you look closely at the cottage or room you book as there is quite a difference between the smallest rooms, the more expansive rooms and the cottages. Service was great with staff stopping by to see if we needed more wood and shoveling us out / pushing the vehicle to get us out in the morning. The restaurant is owned by a separate operator so I have not commented on it in this review.

A LITTLE piece of heaven

First time visiting Oceanstone was this past weekend and it was INCREIBLE!!! We'll definitely be back! The Rhubarb Restaurant was absolutely AMAZING!!! Both places were by far, two of the nicest places I've ever been. The staff / owners were phomenimal!!!

2015-02-07 10:58:00

Charming, delightful and relaxing

What a treat! Our son booked this location for us and we were thrilled with it. We had a group of 10 people and everyone was accommodated in two cottages that were enchanting, beautifully decorated and so comfortable. We had a BBQ on the deck overlooking the ocean and after supper visited together near a roaring fire in the Franklin stove. Peggy's Cove is just around the corner so it was perfect for our tour. Would be lovely to spend a few days here. Highly recommend this place.

Relaxation Weekend - warm and supportive

Oceanstone Resort was so warm and inviting. My sweetheart and I easily slipped into some much needed deep relaxation and we felt supported by the ocean and surrounding land. It was almost as if mother nature was hugging our suite! Equipped with a Jacuzzi and view / sounds of the ocean, our minds had easy access to peace and tranquility! Green Apple massage arrived at our suite and performed skillful therapeutic massage session in tandem. We slipped directly into the Jacuzzi following our treatment - divine. Oceanstone is a special place. I highly recommend taking some time to relax here. And eat the Rhubarb Restaurant!

2014-10-11 13:44:40

What a great service

Wonderful people. My boyfriend and I rented the grey owl cottage and it was literally right near the water. We spent the whole night cuddling near the fireplace. The beach was spectacular, we spent the whole night looking at the stars while baking marshmallows with the fire pit. What can I say we went to heaven and back. And the staff was very considerate.

Our Seaside Wedding brought to life, because of this resort!

We could not have asked for a better destination wedding in Canada. Thank you to Liz (the owner), Roxanne, Troy, Grace and Taylor for making our dream wedding come true. We wanted to have a destination wedding that supported a province we loved and connected with. We wanted to share our great experiences of the Maritimes with our guests. Oceanstone was the best place to do that. From the moment we booked our wedding at this resort, we felt important! Roxanne was a huge help to me as I was planning our wedding from the other side of the country. The moment we arrived at the resort, I felt an instant relief. Not only did Roxanne, Troy and Taylor have rooms ready to go for our guests, but they had popcorn and lemonade ready for our guests. They helped me unload the SUV filled with wedding stuff and instantly went to work. I have never met a more organized team with large smiles on their faces. I swear - they were as excited for us to be getting married as we were. Every last detail was dealt with, and I never heard of any problems. Roxanne and Troy are true professionals, who really love what they do! We hosted a lobster boil for our rehearsal dinner. The chef, Brian, is FANTASTIC! He not only prepared one of the best meals of our trip, but he provided entertainment for our guests as well. The lobster was sublime as were the salads and pies that were brought out. The set-up of the rehearsal dinner was right beside the ocean. I gave Roxanne some shells and candles and she made it look so romantic and elegant. Their staff, attended to all of our guests with their smiling faces, kind words and doing a great job at the bar! Every person had an amazing time at our first event. The wedding... was... SPECTACULAR! Without Roxanne and Troy I would have been lost. I am sure of it.... Roxanne kept me and my girls on track without being demanding... she had the guys organized, ready to go and happy. Not only did Roxanne and Troy set up a gorgeous ceremony site, but there were 0 issues. I had an idea of what I wanted the wedding ceremony to look like and they hit every single point down to the last detail. Destination weddings are popular, but choosing a Canadian destination wedding was spectacular. We were able to introduce our American friends and family, as well as our Canadian friends and family to a part of our country that very few people get to see in their lifetime. The accommodation's were incredible. We not only were able to host a BBQ for our guests who were not part of the rehearsal dinner, but we also had a fire in the fire pits every night we were there. The views from the cottages and most of the rooms are great. You are in close proximity to the ocean and can hear and smell the ocean from anywhere on the resort. The Rhubarb restaurant served amazing food! Their service is incredible! At 1030am they made 5 large pizza's for my girls so we could eat while we were getting ready for the wedding. The knew our party, guests and even us throughout our time at the resort. We could not thank them enough for how delicious their meals were and refreshing their service was! We could not thank Liz, Roxanne, Troy, Taylor, Grace and Brian enough for their hard work. We not only felt very loved and cared for, but our guests did as well. From the scenery to the service and from the cozy cottages to the sounds of the ocean at night, this resort is like no other. Maritimers are some of the nicest people you will ever meet in your life. I was lucky to marry one, but we were even luckier to meet the staff of Oceanstone and have them be a part of our day. Thank you Oceanstone for making our dreams become a reality. We could not have accomplished what we did without you and your staff. They are invaluable! And as Ron says " they all deserve a raise " LOL! We will be back to Oceanstone... not for another wedding... but for our anniversaries down the road.

Very relaxing

My boyfriend and I stayed here for two nights in the beginning of may. We stayed in rhubarb 2. These rooms were just done over and they're beautiful. The bathroom had a nice walk in shower which was a plus for us. The room is a little small but down the hall there's a kitchen to use that has a microwave fridge and dishes to use. There's no ice in the freezer but we had brought our own. There's a deck off the room and the view is gorgeous!!! It was so quiet out there it was very relaxing. The only thing with the rhubarb rooms is that there's a restaurant underneath and when they open up it's noisy. Luckily we were there in the slow season so the restaurant was only open 11-4. This is a great location for a relaxing night away. Peggy's cove is really close and there's a superstore and gas station only 20 mins away. We would definitely return to this place! We may pick a cottage next time.

Once is not enough!

I'm heading back to this amazing place in 2 weeks for an annual 'girls weekend'. To say that I love this place is putting it mildly. This will be our 3rd visit as a group of girls in Periwinkle. I was also able to stay with my husband in Grey Owl in February. It was a stormy, but beautiful weekend. The regular staff were given time off but Lizzie was at our door to ensure everything was ok with our stay. We also enjoyed a lovely meal and great service at Rhubarb :-) I have a hectic lifestyle. I work full time, have 3 kids and 3 animals and a house to take care of. I don't often feel truly relaxed. But that feeling of relaxation starts the moment I see the Oceanstone sign - and only gets better throughout my stay. I can't wait to feel this sense of peace that Oceanstone gives to me, and likely anyone who stays here... My goal is to try and stay here at least twice a year. I would come once a month if time and money permitted. I can't say enough about Oceanstone and the owners / staff etc. Top notch location, service, beauty and oh - let's not forget the gorgeous sunsets!!

Ocean front beauty

My partner and I needed a couple of days out of the city, and we'd heard wonderful things about Oceanstone Inn, so we booked in for an overnight stay. The property is surrounded by lovely old evergreen trees, natural rocks, a bubbling stream, well placed paths and of course, the ocean. Our building housed 5 flats, but privacy was perfect and very quiet. We stayed in the Hollyhock suite, which was an open concept flat with lots of windows, old pine beams, rustic pine furniture and a beautiful hardwood floor. Modern as well as rustic, with a balcony and a stunning view of the ocean. The hot tub was well placed in a cozy corner in front of a window, and provided a relaxing soak after a day of hiking at Pollys Cove-we certainly appreciated the wonderful Terry bath robes! The cove is located a few kilometers to the east and is a part of the Coastal Barrens-we hiked over huge granite rocks guided by a well marked trail just above the ocean-definitely worth experiencing. Bring a camera Dinner at Rhubarb Cafe' topped off a perfect day, and I was very pleased with the gluten free items on the menu. In the morning, after a great sleep in the wonderfully comfortable bed, coffee in the kitchen area, we had a walk around the grounds and along the beach front. At this time of year when flowers are not in bloom and trees are bare, we still enjoyed the beautiful natural surroundings. Staff were excellent and attentive. We can't wait until we return!

Amazing one year anniversary

Amazing place!! I have driven by this place so many times and never even knew it existed. From the time we arrived there we were in love. We wanted a cottage away from the city with a wood stove (not easy to find in NS) and what we found was so much more! We walked into the Grey Owl and it was beyond our expectations! The wood stove kept us warm all night, the sound of the waves added that romantic touch to our supper which my husband made for me! When I saw the pictures online I thought it was close to the beach but it is literally right on the beach. PERFECT! The layout of the cottage is one I never would of thought of but it works so well and it is so cozy. We will definitely be back and I am already telling people to go there and we just got home! Thanks for making our first anniversary so memorable!

Relaxation weekend at Oceanstone

My husband and I just spent the weekend at Oceanstone in the Grey owl cottage. We wanted a relaxing, romantic weekend and we got much more. The cottage is warm and inviting with personal touches throughout. Whimsical little nautical touches everywhere. It contains everything you need:dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, coffee maker, coffee, creamers, iron, ironing board, fan, wood for the woodstove, matches, etc. It has electric heat, but we made fires for the ambiance. The bed is the most comfortable I have slept in, in a long time. The shower is strong and has lots of hot water. The view is beyond amazing! The ocean is right out your back door, steps from the deck, with lots of beautiful sand. We spent most of our time walking the beach and watching the fishermen pull in and set their lobster traps. You can lie in bed and just soak up the amazing views. The sunset was to die for! There are outdoor fire pits and chairs for the summer. The entire propery is magical with lights and sparkling lights in the trees. We had a plate of chocolate covered strawberries waiting for us-what a nice touch! Perfect spot to unwind and have a woderful weekend! We will be back!

Oceanstone Inn & Cottages

August 2004 We could not have asked for a better introduction to Nova Scotia than our stay at the Oceanstone Inn & Cottages. Our stay began on a high note when the owners made special accommodations for our very late arrival. The inn is located in Indian Cove along the scenic Lighthouse Route. Waking up to the sound of the surf and looking out at the ocean was quite a special introduction to this provence. The highlight of our stay was our dinner in the inn's restaurant. An outstanding culinary experience! I highly recommend the inn to anyone visiting the greater Halifax region.

Fabulous dining... nice rooms and a hike for breakfast

Get a good map and don't arrive after dark!! This place is a delight but obvious it ain't. It's actually a bit before Peggy's Cove and is mighty easy to drive right by... we did. Mostly cabins with some nautical / country charm rooms. The rooms were small but beautifully kept and the staff extremely obliging (seems everywhere in the Maritimes you meet truly nice folks who make you welcome). Because it is mostly self-catering cabins there is no breakfast offered. But dinner at the associated Rhubarb restaurant was a knock-out. I mean, where else can you get haute cuisine musk ox as an entree?? Great food and a sunny early morning saw great views out across the water. Parking is some distance away on a dark dirt road and those with mobility challenges might have problems. Breakfast meant a drive down to Peggy's Cove itself. 'ware tourist buses, even out of season we barely beat the morning rush of 3 tour buses!! But a lovely relaxed place to stay and dine well. Do NOT make Rhubarb jokes. The musk ox came with a merlot and rhubarb glaze!

Superb !!!

My wife, child and myself enjoyed 5 amazing days here. The location is perfect, cottage was small, but very well appointed. Service was exceptional. Front desk help Grayce spent a lot of time to answer every question we had to ask. We learned more from her about NS, than we were able to learn in the other 10 days in the province. Big THANK YOU !!!

2014-08-20 13:52:16

World Class!

Myself and my new wife recently married at this wonderful resort. The entire resort is absolutely amazing and the staff are incredibly welcoming and accommodating, The management team was incredible and made sure our special day was the best day of our lives. The cooking staff was also amazing, " The Sargeant " had created fantastic meals for us. Every single person of our 90 person wedding had rave reviews on everything, didn't hear one single complaint. What a time we had, cant wait to come back. Stop everything you are doing and go there, right now!! Thanks Roxanne and Troy for such an amazing weekend, hope all is well.

So very impressed!

I'll try to keep this brief but so I'm just so impressed and in love with this resort and the friendly people who operate it. My friend has been going there several times a year and I had to find out what the fuss was all about. I booked The Pines for my partner for his birthday. When we arrived we discovered that Lizzie had upgraded us to The Crow's Nest because they weren't that busy that week. That's over 200.00 a night more than what I paid for The Pines. So far I'm really impressed. Grace at the counter was 'very sweet. She knew my partner. She was the librarian at his high school growing up. They had a nice little reunion. Off to the cottage. It was beautiful. Overlooking the beautiful ocean. 2 floors in such a lovely beach house. 2 decks both with amazing views. Fire pit down below and below that the beach area with Adirondack chairs. The beds were probably the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Going to sleep listening to the waves has to be one of the most peaceful feelings in the world. Rhubarb restaurant took our order by phone from the beach and I walked up to get take out. Great food and service every time. I can't say enough about this place. We were lucky enough to have almost the whole resort to ourselves during our stay. Probably because it was the 1st week back to school and summer is over for a lot of people. We will be back. Not sure when.... but we will be back and I will surely recommend it to anyone visiting Nova Scotia.

2014-06-12 13:00:08

Gorgeous just the best place

I can't say enough about the Oceanstone Resort. The view is stunning. The tides are so beautiful watching them coming and going on the deck of the cottage in the bright sunlight. The firepits are easy to light and wonderful to sit around in the evenings. Watching the Lobster boats dropping off their nets and collecting them. Very educational and enjoyable in every way. The cottages have every home spun necessity. Beautiful Nova Scotia experience.

Amazing Resort!

Stayed here for a wedding and everything was spectacular! The service was fast and friendly, some of them where really funny to talk to! The food was to die for and the place was spotless, including all the cottages, which were all very cozy and well maintained (the bride and groom reserved the whole resort so I was able to sneak a peek in a few of the cottages) ! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place to get away (the scenery is breath taking!) that isn't too far from the city (less than an hour). One of the BEST places for a wedding and great for a couples retreat!

Good For the Soul..

I was looking for someplace special.. to get away and enjoy a calm, relaxing and romantic evening with a friend. This was definitely it. I spent quite sometime looking for just the right place. I had some specific requirements - quiet, beautiful view, yet secluded with a bit of privacy, balcony, a tub built for 2. When I called to ask some questions - the person who answered the phone was very helpful. I was willing to pay a little more than usual for the right place. We had only one night and I wanted it to be special. Oceanstone has some great options... something for everyone - no matter what your requirements. Michelle I think was who I initially spoke too (not a 100% on the name though) she was very friendly - and answered all my questions about each of the rooms that looked like possibilities. The Rhubarb Suite, the Hollyhock # 3 or maybe one of the cottages. I had so many questions, and " wants " that I could not have been an easy person to deal with - but she was patient, and informative... The one cottage I was considering... The Grey Owl... was booked - right on the beach, deck, fire pit, beautiful inside.... Grrr. Hollyhock 3 had everything - but also came outside my budget. I asked about the Ocean Vista - it was further from the water - but had the balcony, the two person jetted tub. It looked nice. So after hemming and hawing.. decided on that. They were not busy she said - so if I wanted to look around when I got there - I could always change my mind. Now that is GREAT Service. The Location - FANTASTIC. I have driven this road a couple of times, as had my friend - neither of us had really noticed this place. But right on the waters of St. Margaret's Bay, easy access to Peggy's Cove and the drive around the Bay is beautiful. Some good restaurants near by, beautiful walks along the beach, just a great place to relax and get away from it all. The Property - again FANTASTIC. All the units are just steps away from the beach... some right on it. Beautifully landscaped, a lot of trees to keep things private. Lots of parking. You can walk the beach in either direction, it is a bit rocky, so make sure you have some shoes. We found a couple of chairs and just sat and enjoyed the view, the quiet, the smells.... Check in - the girl at the desk - also very helpful. She allowed us to check out a couple of other options, she answered our questions and was very friendly. She did fail to give us some information.. check out time for instance... I still don't know what their check out time is... She was kind enough to make a reservation for us at the on-sight restaurant Rhubarb. Definitely recommend it. The Room - when we got there we did consider a couple of the other options. We checked out Dovekey. Right on the water so the view was spectacular. Due to the location - a little outside of my budget at $300. We then checked out Ocean Vista and it was perfect. Even though it wasn't right on the water, the view was stunning.. as it is in the upstairs of the cottage. The downstairs is storage - so still private as well. It had the huge tub that looked out on to the view... and a balcony, that even though it is glass, still offers some privacy. So this was it. Everything I was looking for. Still pricey at over $200, but still worth it. The room was a nice size, had a small couch, small fridge, beautiful hardwood floors... windows that looked out onto the ocean.. and allowed for the breeze to come in. The only odd thing - no phone to call the desk in case you had any questions... We were going to call and ask what time check out was... but couldn't. So we checked out at noon - which I think was later than it should have been... but it was so lovely there - neither of us really wanted to leave. My friend went and got some pastries from the bakery at the Rhubarb restaurant. He brought back tea and scones and muffins for breakfast, we sat on the deck and just enjoyed the view, the breeze and just the silence... wonderful. And the pastries were amazing. Hmmm Rhubarb turnover, blueberry muffins. YUMMY!!! I am recommending this place to anyone and everyone. I will be back again for sure.

Great spot, missing some essentials

The spot is perfect with a beautiful waterfront area, and the grounds are well kept. We stayed in Treetop, and although it was clean and quaint, we missed some essentials. In spite of the full kitchen and barbecue, there was no bowl for making a salad. A wall mirror or 2 would have been nice, one in the living area and one in the main bedroom to allow for grooming while the bathroom was occupied. This resort is 10 minutes from Peggy's Cove, and 90 minutes from Lunenburg. The service was good.

Beautiful Oceanstone!

My husband and I, along with my in-laws, spent a fabulous night at Oceanstone earlier this summer. We had the Captain's House cottage, situated on the water with its own private beach access and fire pit. The cottage was quaint, beautifully appointed and spotless. Maybe the best sleep I've had outside of my own home! We ate dinner ate the property's restaurant " Rhubarb " and were thoroughly pleased. Certain to impress your pickiest " foodie " friends. I would highly recommend this location for a couple's weekend getaway just as easily as a Family's summer cottage rental. Literally minutes from Peggy's Cove and an easy drive to Halifax for entertainment during the day.

The nicest wedding ever.

Recently my husband and I and our daughters had the pleasure of staying at the Oceanstone Cottages for our nephew's wedding. It was truly a memorable experience, and one we will never forget. The ambience was relaxing, naturally beautiful and the views were breathtaking. The staff and the people of Nova Scotia in general are one of the nicest we have ever met. Thank you!

Seafood Delight!!!

I went with a friend of mine to Rhubarb for lunch. The seafood chowder was the best I have ever had!!! Full of fresh seafood with a wonderful broth. Then I had the fish and chips. The Haddock was very lightly coated So that you had " FISH " which was delicious, and the french fries were home made. The sevice was very friendly and attentive. We finished off with a warm Strawberry Rhubarb Pie. After lunch we walked down to the front office to look at the Oceanstone resort. I asked if I could see one of the cabins. The receptionist was very nice and let us see one. The room was well appointed with fresh crisp linens in the colors of the sea and the bathroom was brand new and modern. I will make sure I return for a special weekend getaway very soon!

Charming Place

I stayed in an oceanfront cottage at Oceanstone and really enjoyed myself. The setting is beautiful on the ocean, and the cottages are very rustic and clean. I also enjoyed two meals at their restaurant and both meals were exceptional. Will definately go back.

We loved our stay at Oceanstone!

We stayed 2 nights of our honeymoon at Oceanstone. This place is so tranquil, the perfect atmosphere for romance. Because it was Thanksgiving weekend, the Rhubarb Grill was closed both nights we were there, which I was a bit dissapointed about. But our cottage had everything we needed to cook and enjoy a nice meal. And there are plenty of cafe's and nice quaint restaurants in the area. We stayed in Grey Owl, which has a beautiful view of the harbour. We sat on the deck for hours and watched the sunset and enjoyed each others company with a glass or two or three of wine. It was absolutely the most relaxing environment we could have asked for. The staff at the desk were friendly and informative. The cottages were very clean and well stocked with cooking utensils, lovely little soaps from Olivier soap company and a warm cozy feeling that every little thing was thought of to make your stay more enjoyable. We especially loved the wood stove that kept us warm on a cool fall evening. We will definitely return to Oceanstone!

Quiet retreat

We travel to Nova Scotia every year and have always lamented that the hotels in Downtown Halifax don't take advantage of the wonderful ocean views. We now have our Oceanside resort. Close to the city of Halifax, close to Peggy's Cove, close to Mahone Bay - all my favourites. The bedroom was small - not much room for suitcases and it was a little more " rustic " than I had imagined but those were small things compared to the ocean waves and fresh air, the adirondack chairs in the sand with a rock for a footstool and the well kept grounds. Staff were gearing up for a wedding later in the week so were occupied with that but we never felt ignored - just enjoyed our privacy. We stayed in the Grey Owl and I must say - the highlight of each day was our dinner at Rhubarb each night. We thoroughly enjoyed that and I will write a separate review as it is not part of Oceanstone but in my option if not for Rhubarb I would not have enjoyed my stay nearly as much. I don't prefer to cook on vacation and there are no fine restaurants in the area or taxi cabs so Rhubarb restaurant made our overall stay quite perfect.
