Found our FAVORITE CHINESE restaurant HERE at UNCLE CHEN'S!
Uncle Chen's offers an outstanding food experience- excellent and attentive customer service from the host, waiter and bus staff, squeaky clean atmosphere all throughout the restaurant, amazing, tasty & authentic Chinese food. This place is now a MUST STOP for us when we visit Carpinteria. Would even make an excuse to travel here just to have a good dinner!
Very good!
Food was wonderful and so fresh and delicious. Staff was so helpful and service was great! Wish it was close to my home! Thought enjoyed the special with soup, egg roll, one large fried shrimp and a main course. Excellent value for money and large portions.

The ratings caused my wife and I (age 69) to try takeout but we were very disappointed. Service was good but the food was typical small town American Chinese; nothing like the good stuff.
Nice place
There Thai iced tea is great for a homesick southerner craving real sweet tea. It's sweet! The Chow Fun is pretty good, a little better than many others in area. Not great, but pretty good. They use the thin sliced meats you often see at a Mongolian BBQ. Plenty of vegetables and sprouts, they are just a few quality ingredients from being 5 stars. Good vibe, decent prices, friendly people.
Salute to the Buffet! Great food and fabulous service
I have to give Uncle Chen's 5 big stars for everything. Sure it's a local Chinese restaurant but it's light years ahead of most run-of-the-mill little places. The daily buffet is AWESOME with freshly made dishes that get constantly updated whatever time you go in. It's a great price and the ingredients are always fresh - you can tell that everything is made on the spot. I've mainly had the buffet to go which is a stellar offer at only $10 or so, but I have ordered a couple of accompanying dishes off the menu and they were amazing too. How special can fried rice ever be? - Just try Uncle Chen's fried rice and be prepared to be transformed. Shrimp, chicken, veggies, everything: super-hot and freshly made. Great portions too, one lunch box comfortably feeds two and prices are great. Oh and I can't forget the service, they are super-friendly and remember you every time you go back. I've been in dozens of Chinese restaurants all over the world and this is easily one of the best for service, freshness and great food. PS: Fantastic veggies in every dish, and real proper vegetarian options too.
Extra Value Combos
Whenever visiting Carpinteria, this place is a must. My family dined in on a weekday evening and the restaurant was almost empty. So it's safe to say there was no wait for a table. The staff is on top of everything; answering questions about the menu, refilling your drinks, and clearing away empty dishes. The food is always tasty and fresh. There are special individual combos listed on the back of the menu that are a great value. A good time is always had here.
Great Chinese food
The location in a shopping center should not fool you. This is the real thing with a good staff and a simple home like atmosphere.
Great take out food!
When I travel to Carpinteria alone and I'm working long hours, this is my go to take out. One dinner is enough food for at least 2 or 3 meals. Ingredients are fresh and food is delicious.
Passing through
The Mongolian Beef was good. I had the schezwan shrimp and wasnt thrilled with the sauce. Soup, eggdrop was OK. The egg rolls didn't have much flavor. Fried rice was good.
Delicious Chinese food
Extensive menu with multiple of choices. Great for both dining-in and for take-out. Very friendly staff and delicious food.
Ixnay on the Buffet
The owners and staff at Uncle Chen's are very nice people and the service is friendly and attentive. The dining area is very clean and well-maintained. Beyond that, there really isn't anything particularly remarkable and outstanding about this establishment. It's just your typical cookie-cutter Chinese place, tucked away in an unassuming little strip mall somewhere in Anytown, U. S. A. The decor is the same, the background music is the same, the dishes are the same. They offer an all-you-can-eat buffet for about nine bucks which, although a good bargain, is really best avoided. There are very limited choices, and often the items taste old and lukewarm, like reheated food. The fried chicken is dried out, chewy and tough. Pay a little extra and order items from the regular menu, and you can't go wrong. The Kung Pau Chicken is pretty decent.

We ordered some entrees from the special broad. Very tasty and three dishes were perfect for our family of 6!!!

Chinese delivered to our campsite in the Storm

That's really pretty delicious Chinese food!
I am a Chinese international student, Uncle Chen is the first Chinese restaurant I have been when I came America. The food is really NICE, it made me feel homey. The atmosphere is very quiet. The service is really friendly, and there is a big enough space for people to have a good dining time. Especially Three cups chicken & jia chang tofu, every times when I go there, I must order them, in this restaurant they have the best this two dishes! But the cost, it might not be a good price to accept, because normally just one dish's price is almost 15$.
Love me some Uncle Chen's!
This family owned and operated restaurant is one of our go to restaurants in Carpinteria. The owners and everyone who works there is ALWAYS friendly and welcoming. And we LOVE their soup! In fact, we usually order 2-3 large soups so we can take them home and have them for the next week! I love the tofu and brown sauce but you can't go wrong with any food from Uncle Chen's.
Uncle Chen is not so good
I had another bad experience at Uncle Chen recently. Not one of my favorite places by far. Unfortunately, they do not have a lot of competition in the Chinese cooking category.
Get some fried rice to go!
Uncle Chen's is very reliable for good Chinese food. We like to order the special fried rice with lobster and take it home but the general menu is good and always consistent. Good service and a nice quiet atmosphere.

We thought we would try the food because my daughter and I love Chinese food. I ordered the Chow mien. The food was delicious!!! We wanted to go again but did not have enough time.
Underrated option in Carpinteria
I did takeout here, but they have dine-in and the atmosphere appeared very nice (white table cloths, clean, well decorated). For my take-out: order was taken easily over the phone, food was ready to go when I showed up at the promised time (20 min), staff were friendly and helpful, and food matched what I ordered. Most of the food was excellent. Crispy duck was just so so, but that is a difficult dish and theirs was better than many I've had. Price was reasonable. I will definitely do their takeout again every time I'm in town, and may try dining in too! Also, they deliver for orders over $20 for those who can't do takeout!
Carpinteria's Only Chinese Restaurant
Uncle Chen's is the go-to Chinese restaurant in Carpinteria. The staff is very friendly and orders are prepared very quickly. Fare is reasonably priced. The Chinese platters are well prepared, though on one occasion my shrimp with lobster sauce was watery and a bit bland tasting.
OMG Good
I was visiting Carpinteria and the staff at the Holiday Inn Express down the street directed me here. Very clean. Great food and service. Nice atmosphere. Located in a small strip mall. Frankly going to an unknown Chinese Restaurant can be risky as they are inconsistent. This one is fine dining. I will return.
Uncle Chen
Very nice food at a very fair price. We cannot fault this restaurant. The sweet and sour pork was fantastic.
Food not fresh tasting - very disappointed!
What a huge disappointment going to Uncle Chen's for lunch. For years we have had delivery service and didn't check out the restaurant - our mistake - we had our opinion changed real fast. The restaurant opens for lunch at 11:00, we eat about 11:20 with only 1 table of 2 in the restaurant. I had the buffet - $9.95 - the containers of different dishes available did not look fresh, did not taste freshly made that morning, and the heating pans were not even half filled with food. For example, the fried chicken tasted old and very tough like it had been reheated, the Won Tons were tough and couldn't even chew them easily. Same with the other dishes. My husband had a chicken dish lunch special: the fried rice did not taste like it was freshly made that day along with his chicken dish. We were SO disappointed and will not be ordering " takeout / delivery " nor going there unless we hear through the " grapevine " they have cleaned up their act!
Hungry for Stir Fry
Traveling through Carpinteria, I checked into the Holiday Inn for our overnight. It was 8:30 pm and me and the girls were hungry but didn't want to go out. We ordered Chicken stir fry, fried rice and egg rolls from this amazing place. Delivery was fast, hot and not expensive at all. The 4 of us enjoyed every bite and were delighted that they sent flatware and paper plates and napkins. Definitely recommend!
Lucky find
The service and food is excellent. Not sure what more I could say. Went there as we were fed up of eating out. Wow! What a great find. The chicken curry is fresh, full of veg and comes in those wonderful American style cartons. Sorry, we are Brits! Lol We went back several times and was never disappointed.
Free delivery, big menu, good food
a group of 8 of us were staying in a house Carpintera. Read the reviews and thought we would try it. Ordered 8 dishes, egg rolls, rice and noodles for 8 and it was $105. Free delivery, got here in 25 minutes, friendly service. Portions were large, we had leftovers. Good food and great value.
Fabulous!!!!
Whenever I need comfort food or feeling ill I either go here or have it delivered the War Won Ton Soup is amazing!!! I have been going her 20 years. The waiter knows me and my family and always wonderful!!!! The prices are great, fast service and as long as you buy $20 or more the delivery is FREE in the area!!!!! I just can't say enough wonderful things about this family owned jewel....
Okay if you don't want to drive into Santa Barbara
It's just average Chinese food. Nothing special. It's edible but nothing to rave about. The restaurant is clean, the food is reasonably priced, and the waiters are pleasant.

Waar je ook ter wereld komt Chinees eet men nooit het zelfde. Er zijn overeenkomsten maar toch! Bij Uncle Chen was het verrassend en erg lekker. Zeker doen! En je niet laten afschrikken van de buitenkant!
Simply the best!
Don't know why there are bad reviews about this place? I am a regular there, people in uncle Chen are the sweetest! They remember my order and always friendly. They have the best yang Chou fried rice!
Chineese Takeout What do you Expect
I ordered from Uncle Chen recently because there aren't really any other options in Carpinteria and sometimes I crave little white boxes of food. We ordered the sweet and sour chicken, beef with broccoli and hot and sour soup. The price was reasonable ~$20 for all of it. The portions were very generous and you get a choice of that nice sticky white rice, or fried. Both were good and they were delivered very quickly and the food was hot. The soup was pretty good and had a nice bite to it. Everyone was friendly and courteous and I would certainly order from here again. I probably would only order take-out but if you live or are staying locally it's a nice change of pace from Mexican food.
pancakes that disintergrate before you can eat them
I called in two dishes to take away. Never again. The chicken chow mein was disgusting, stuck together in a glob of nothing but noodles, not even the right type of noodle for this dish. No flavor at all, so awful. The Moo shoo pork was about the same, not much pork, dripping with liquid. Not a good experience, and it was our second time trying this out in hopes that we had found a chinese experince that we could return to time and time again.
Sooooooo much food!!!!
Uncle Chen's was a quaint restaurant. They had entrees or you could order dinners that came with soup, fried shrimp, fried wontons and eggrolls along with whatever entree you choose. When you first come in you are greeted right away and seated. The drinks and free fried won ton strips come quickly. After you order, your soup and sides come right away. The main course came soon after that. There was only two of us, but the food could have easily feed 4 adults. The price was great. We will be going back for sure!

Nice family Chinese restaraunt
Family owned I believe. They make you feel like you have been going there for years even on first visit. King pao chicken excellent, I didn't love the sweet and sour pork. Would go back for Kung pao chicken and try something else. Got menu for take out also. Nice find.
Chinese at its best
As a local I can always count on a good meal at Uncle Chen's. Wide variety in the buffet lunches. Friendly staff, good service.
Completely average in every way
We went to Uncle Chen's on a Saturday night around 630pm. It was busy but our a la carte order came quickly. It was definitely understaffed for the number of people in the restaurant, however. They were literally running to tables as they were handling take-out, delivery and dine-in customers. I got anxious just watching them. The servers didn't even have time to speak to customers much less time to be friendly. And, about half the patrons went to the buffet so they would have served themselves. The food is completely average; I have no idea what other reviewers are referring to. The one exception was the appetizer the 'pot stickers' which was very good.

We went to carpinteria last week and they say we should give it a try. so we did and we love it! we ordered the walnut shrimp, wor won-ton soup, yang-chou fried rice and chicken chow mein. the portion was nice and we enjoyed very much! we will come back next time when we visit carpinteria!
Delicious and Friendly
Staff is amazing, friendly, helpful. Food is fresh, tasty, and tailored to any dietary needs. Love this place! Especially the vegetarian version Chicken with Zucchini.
Great Chinese Food!!Delivered Fast, Hot, and Fresh!!Very Impressed!
We were visiting the Santa Barbara area and staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Carpenteria. We were tired after our long drive and just wanted to get some good food to go besides pizza. We chose Chens based on the great reviews here on TripAdvisor. We were very skeptical as we are Asian. We placed our order and were told it would take about 30 minutes for delivery. To our surprise, there was a knock at our room door about 15 mins later. These guys are good. We ordered Mugu Gai Pan and vegetable Egg Fu Young. Food was delicous and very generous servings. It was just what we needed! The delivery guy was very polite and provided us with plates and eating utencils. Our next visit to Carpenteria will most likely include a stop at Chen's!

A Place We Go To Almost Once a Week
Brian the owner is friendly and always talkative. He has a smile when he greets you and too when you leave. Alot of the staff are his family and they all pride themselves in the food and the service. When offered pizza or Chinn's, my kids always choose Chinn's. We go here for our " comfort " food when we just need to talk and also for the great buffet! My friend in Az always wants me to pack some up & bring it to her when I go to vist. I'm affraid the wonderful smell would drive the other passangers crazy! They deliver on time, with a smile... and no hidden fees. Eat here and you WILL come back! Thank you Chinn's Lyn
Wonderful Mongolian Beef and more!
We were surprised that the ONLY Chinese restaurant in town would actually be really good! Our first experience was delivery to our hotel.. then we went in after that. Best Mongolian Beef and we're from L. A.! Walnuts in Mayo with Shrimp is good, too! Haven't had anything bad there yet!
